You believe (or want to believe) God has called you and given you purpose, but where do you start? How do you get from feeling stuck to making a move? If this sounds familiar, bestselling author Jess Connolly has a message for you: You Are the Girl for the Job.
But this is not simply a peppy catchphrase. This is the straight-up truth God has proclaimed over your life from the beginning, and it's not dependent on what you can do or achieve but based on His power, capacity, and character.
It has taken one million, maybe one zillion (who knows?!), slight moves of His hand to place you in this exact moment. So forget about fear and second-guessing your gifts, because God has meticulously prepared you to be an ambassador for the Kingdom right where you are, here and now. Life is too short to get stuck in a holding pattern of shame, self-doubt, and comparison. So let this book be your very good news: you don't have to wait for permission when you've already been commissioned.
With passion and heart-pumping hope, Jess shows that being the girl for the job doesn't depend on your capacity. Rather, it has everything to do with God's capacity and our willingness. It has everything to do with believing we are who God says we are, and quieting any inferior word spoken against us. Are you ready?
Let this book be your jumpstart into confident, purposed living, as Jess walks you through the six steps she has used to coach and encourage women for years: set your focus, take stock of the story that has shaped you, face your fear, catch the vision, make a plan, and finally, make your move--all in the bold belief that God has called you to every step of the journey.

Girl for the job, but not every job is for you
I read a lot of books throughout the year. Over time most books become just distant memories. Not so here. You Are the Girl for the Job really resonated with me. Not just the social media-esque quotes but the entirety of what this book is about. We want to matter in this life; sometimes we get stuck on trying to do a little bit of everything in hopes of mattering and making a difference. But Jess reminds us that while we are the girl for the job, we are not the girl for every job. We are here for a reason and we have a purpose. She also reminds us that our purposes can change. Just because we are talented/gifted in one area doesn't mean we are stuck doing that one thing for our entire life. Jess gives practical advice and brings everything back to the Word of God. It's not sugar-coated and it's not bitter tasting. She speaks from a place that has been there and still struggles. She doesn't have all the answers but she does point her readers back to the one place where the answers can be found: in Jesus. We are the girls for the jobs because of Jesus and because He graced us with gifts and talents to glorify Him and give us an abundant life. I highly recommend this for all women (and teen girls too). You will be blessed.
encouraged, inspired, and spurred on!
I have been so thrilled to read YATGFTJ. There were so many moments where I felt like Jess was speaking right to me. She brings biblical truth and best friend-mom-big sister-mentor-boss babe style to encourage you to RUN toward Jesus! Instead of feeling like you have to do it all or be the best or compete, she preaches that we should take ourselves OUT of the running and rely on His strength. It's powerful stuff, guys. If you have struggled with not feeling good enough, over capacity, or imposter syndrome, I especially encourage you to read this book!
We need this book right now!
I struggle to believe that God can use me in any capacity because I’m always hung up on what I lack. And all these self-help books today? They don’t help. They hype up my pride but don’t speak truth into my identity in Christ and His capacity to do a work in me and through me because He is GOD & He is ABLE. In this book Jess pulls no punches in speaking truth about how we are women after God’s heart (not our own) & how He equips us in our calling to step up to the plate and be confident that we, the broken daughters of God, can be USED for His Kingdom & His glory wherever He has called us. If you’re tired of the world’s POV on this topic of tackling the world but you want to be a woman with a fire in her belly living life for God in abundance THIS is your book.
A Rare Book That Inspires All Ages
You are the Girl for the Job is a rare book that inspires all ages, no matter what their challenge or adversity to step into the place God has called them. Jess Connolly is transparent, inspirational, Biblical and truly the “girl for the job” as she rallies readers to trust God and go for it. I can’t remember the last time I was completely taken in so early. Her SoulCycle story still resonates with me. I plan to go back through it again because I want to savor it, take it all in, and highlight. I expect to highlight a lot. If you doubt your place in the world, as God’s daughter, or are looking for a real voice that can rally a transformation, You are the Girl for the Job is the book, and Jess Connolly is an author you’ll be hearing a lot more of. I highly, highly recommend this book. I received You Are the Girl for the Job from the publisher in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own, and I was not compensated.
A timely call to the women of all generations
From start to finish, this book was packed with Scripture teaching, empathy, encouragement, and calling us up as sisters in Christ - equipped, already enough and never too much. Jess Connolly invites you into large parts of her testimony and uses her giftings in teaching the Word of God to call women out of fear and hiding, and into the abundant, equipped life God has for His daughters. What resonated with me the most was the chapter(s) on fear. It is such a stronghold of unbelief and the way Jess packs SO many bright truths straight from the Word with such conviction made me think long after the book was through. This book not only provides a call to Biblical literacy in laying hold of our inheritance and standing as daughters of God, but a bolstering balm of truth to the reader, wherever she may find herself, so that she can taste and see that the Lord is good - and that He made her, the girl for the job.
Need an encouraging read to remind you that you are exactly where God wants you?
I don't remember where I first heard about Jess Connolly or this book but I'm glad I did. Before chapter one ever begins you read, "It's time we quit arguing with God about our inadequacy and start relying on His capacity." This book does an excellent job of combining the Bible with practical steps and encouraging stories (mostly from Connolly herself) that we are the girl for the job and God put us where we are for a reason. She reminds us in a gentle way that our calling depends more on His abundance and His capacity than our own. Our society tries to force us into a burn-it-at-both ends culture and Connolly's saying there's another way. Maybe instead of burning it at both ends day in and day out we need to decide once and for all who we're really here for. Who are your people? Who's already listening to you? Do you have a captive audience right in front of you? While most of this book is encouraging and nice, the last section is titled, "Make Your Move." This might be the hardest of all because this is where the application actually takes place. She challenges you to put legs to the everything you read about prior. Given the flow of this book, the last chapter being titled, "You're Doing It Right," only seems appropriate. If you (or someone you know) needs an encouraging read to remind them they are exactly where God wants them and His story is always better than we think, this is the book for them.
I Am Not the Girl for This Book
I was looking for books to inspire me during an annoying and long job search and thought this book would help me along with another I purchased. I was wrong. I am only 1/2 way through the book and I am bored. I feel like the chapters are repetitive and there aren't enough Bible verses quoted to back up what the writer is saying. Although I believe in Jesus Christ, I do not feel I have a calling to be in ministry. This book would be better suited for someone pursuing that, not an actual career where relying on your skills and competing are necessary.
Definitely going to change us for HIS GLORY
There really isn't enough time or space to write everything I love about this book and the message. A message about who God is and what He is capable of accomplishing through us. It's not about us and I really appreciate that Jess took the time to write a message not of fluff but of truth. Truth in that we're not just here to be comfortable and worried about ourselves. Truth that we're called and capable because of the kind of God we serve. He created us to bring glory to Him and however He called us to do that, He is more than capable of seeing that plan through. Jess's message is refreshing and encouraging, but more than that it's challenging. She doesn't just leave you hanging with questions on how, she gives tangible thoughts and tasks for you and me to do the work before us. I'm the girl for the job and I am so grateful for this reminder of God's goodness. Would I recommend this book? Yes. I've already read it twice and cannot wait to read it with highlighter and pen. I think anyone would benefit from this message and be encouraged by the words they will read as Jess remind you to work for the good of others and the glory of God.
Must-Read book of the decade!
This book radically changed my life. The message is so timely in today’s society, and even in my life as a girl in my 20’s trying to make my mark. This book completely changed the way I carry myself, and even the way I cheer for others. Jess Connolly did it again by prophesying a necessary message for this day and age. I am thankful for her obedience to God in hearing this message and writing it down for us. I read a lot of books every year, but this one is at the top. A must-read!
You ARE The Girl For The Job!
Jess Connolly is the perfect Hype Woman, BFF, and big sister wrapped all into one and her latest book, ""You Are The Girl For The Job,"" is no exception. Jess takes biblical truths and applies them to life in the most honest and vulnerable ways that will leave to ready to roar and run on mission. In this book you will find helpful AND encouraging ways to fight fear, insecurity, inadequacy, and lies with the truth of the Gospel. Whether you are a college girl, career woman, or wife & mama, this book will encourage you, make you laugh, and fill you with bravery and courage to do your best! You are the girl for the job and this book will inspire you to believe it!

We Are The Girls For the Job!
Jess Connolly shares personal life stories, Biblical stories, scripture and her abounding faith to bring forth the powerful messages throughout You are the Girl for the Job. I love her inspirational, passionate, engaging, honest, and unique writing style that is sprinkled with humor. I savored the words and digested them slowly because they were so rich and satisfying to my soul. The words my soul has been hungry to hear, I AM the girl for the job! Everything the author shares is rooted in Christ as she walks the reader on a faith-filled journey of discovery of God’s powerful truths and promises, and the tools He’s given us to accomplish the tasks He lays before us. Jess Connolly discusses comparison, strengths and weaknesses, shame, self-doubt, defeat, fears, disbelief, and the messiness of our lives in a no-nonsense way which I love! She gets to the heart of the matter, the crucial truths we all need to hear. You are the Girl for the Job is broken down into 6 intentional steps towards abundant obedience; 1) Call it quits 2) Find your people 3) Use what you’ve got 4) Face your fears 5) Catch the vision 6) Make your move. This is definitely a book you’ll want to be armed with highlighters and a journal while you read it! Jess Connolly is so genuine and relatable and I found myself on so many pages of You are the Girl for the Job. I loved this amazing book and I am confident that countless lives will be transformed by the messages within. Women need to believe and live out the truth that we are the girls for the job, appointed by Jesus, for His glory! We are who God says we are.
For any woman feeling like she's inadequate or unqualified
This book is for every single woman with any inkling of a feeling of inadequacy. It's so easy to feel as though God has called you to something that you feel unqualified for, but Jess Connolly is here to remind you that if He's called you to do something, then He is going to provide you with whatever you need to run with it and do it well. This book is gold. Not only is Jess encouraging you, but she's basing everything on Scripture and sharing stories of others in the Bible who may not have felt or seemed qualified, but who God used in a BIG way. It's hard to put this book down, and I found myself highlighting and scribbling all over it. There are so many good nuggets of truth in this book that also leave me craving to dig into the scriptures more. HIGHLY recommend this!
This book will help you!
Wow! I just finished what will be the first of MANY reads through this book. It is a powerhouse of encouragement, challenge, and kingdom minded action. I see this as being on regular rotation to ensure that I am leaning on the Lord’s strength and not my own and, at the same time, that I am using my strength for the Glory of God and the good of others. First, let’s start with Jess. She is a fabulous friend and mentor. No, we are not friends in real life, but she has spoken such powerful and real words over and into my life through this book (and her others as well). She is the gal to turn to for straight talk and radical belief in the power of God in your life. The premise of the book is to walk through what an intensive coaching session would look like. Each chapter, if acted upon, will bring you closer to living into the life of calling and abundance that Christ has for you. It isn’t fluffed up with all the great things YOU are capable of, but instead, you are pointed to look to Jesus and His capacity to work in and through you. Jess doesn’t claim that life is all sunshine and roses. Instead, she promises fulfillment and a greater dependence on the Lord whether your circumstances are pleasant or painful. I highly recommend this book if you are just starting to wonder what life surrendered to Jesus might look like or if, like me, you have been walking with Him for decades.
God doesn't make mistakes
Do you feel inadequate? Has the enemy filled your head and heart with lies about God's plan for your life? Do you feel like your current role could never impact His kingdom? Then this book is for you!! Everyday - we are fed lies and made to believe that God's perfectly orchestrated plan for our lives - is wrong! Jess carefully unpacks the truth that no matter where you are, who you are, or where you're going - it is not by mistake. That God WILL use your current situation exactly and perfectly for His will. If you're a Mom - you need this timely word. If you're a cashier at a retail location - this is for you! If you're the CEO of a thriving company - you will be inspired and motivated! If you're working at the front desk of a business - He has you in that seat on purpose and you'll find out what that is in this book! If you're simply reading this review - that's not by mistake (just buy the book already!!).
Jess Does It Again!
Jess Connolly does it again with a book that will get you fired up to run on mission where you are at! You Are The Girl For The Job takes readers through “six steps towards abundant obedience,” helping you to refocus on your strengths, weaknesses, passions, and action steps. You may be thinking the title implies this is a book that sugar-coats our approach to mission and intends to leave you feeling nothing but good feels, but this book is meaningful, honest, and will remind you that our capacity only comes from recognizing God’s glory and abundance. “Here’s the secret: We are the girls for the job because of the God of all capacity who not only calls us but equips us, and dwells within us, enabling us to carry out His plans.” Jess does not let you think for even one moment while reading this book that you are the girl for the job because of your own power or ability. She fervently reminds you that it is all because of the God we serve. Whether you feel called to lead a ministry, publish a book, start a small business, or even be home raising children who are faithful disciples, this book will help you discern your motivations, abilities, and focus so that you can run on mission for the good of others and the glory of God
Kick in the Pants
I’ve never met Jess but I’m pretty sure she knows me. Somehow she managed to write all the words I’ve needed to hear recently. In YATGFTJ, she identifies the feelings, desires, and lies we cling to about what we should do in the world and calls us UP, calls us OUT, and calls us NEEDED. Stories from her life are woven into the book and some will punch you in the gut because you’ve felt the same way and some will make you laugh. Jess offers practical steps we can take live our lives “for the good of others and the glory of God” — and this line becomes her battle cry as she leads us toward the heart of God for His daughters. My favorite chapter is called What Kind of Woman, in which she teaches about Mary Magdalene. Jess writes: “I might not know your exact situation—what keeps you feeling like you’re too much for humans and too broken for God to use you—but I know that His capacity plus our willingness always equals abundance. I do not think you’re the exception.” This book is the encouragement Christian women need to keep showing up. It’s the kick in the pants we need to get going. And it’s the love of someone who is in the thick of it with us we need to remind us we’re not alone.
You are the girl for the job, but not every job!
“You are the girl for the job, but not every job.” I shared this quote on social media before I started reading You are the Girl for the Job. The quote resonated with me on so many levels - I’m slowly learning to focus my time on what matters most, and that means saying no quite often now. This book connected the dots of why our no’s are sometimes more important than our yeses. I love how Jess says, “We can’t go back and recreate moments. Don’t miss moments because your focus is on the wrong things.” God wants to use us all, but we have to let Him do the heavy lifting. We have to believe that He is who He says His, while believing we are who He says we are. This book dives into women, our fears, our exhaustions, our need for perfection, and our desire for approval. It holds the stories, resources, and God’s word for how we can combat these overwhelming feelings of not being who God says we are. It gives us courage to love ourselves and others regardless of our past, regardless of our sins, and regardless of our brokenness. It was, indeed, no accident that I opened this book in my current season. It was filled with exactly the right encouragement that I needed to dive deeper into God’s plan for my life and my gifts.
Jess is the voice our generations needs!
Jess is telling us what we need to hear! She is encouraging us to not take what the world is telling us but to take what God has already done for us and run with it! If you're struggling with identity in who you are or what you're meant to be then you need this book.
Buy one for YOU and a friend!
I initially read this book thinking of all the other women in my life who would need to read it. Then, chapter two got all up in my business and I’m pretty sure I cried through the rest of the book, shaking my head in agreement, repentance and surrender. Jess openly and honestly shares personal stories of missed moments, mess ups and revelations. She shares vulnerably about her experiences with God and invites you to learn along side her. The biggest take home for me was that I don’t have to be the Ideal version of me, she’s not the one God uses; God uses the real, raw, messy, forgiven, healed, redeemed version of me. The one who needs forgiveness and extends forgiveness. Whether you are the girl who knows you have a job to do or the girl who feels like she’s not cut out for any job. This book is for you!
Every woman needs this book.
You Are The Girl for the Job is an IMPACTFUL book that helps you believe and understand that you are in your position and season for a PURPOSE and that you are the girl for the job not because of what you bring to the table but because of God and His power and His capacity. I’m only 3 chapters in and this book has been monumental for me believing that God has placed me where I am— my home, job, community, etc.— and given me EVERYTHING I need for my good and His glory. What has resonated with me the most is that it’s time for me to quit trying to be the best and the most ___ and rather trust God as I bring my best to him and to my roles and allow Him to make much of Himself there. All day long I am drawn back to the Biblical truths and encouragement Jess has coated in every page. I highly suggest this book to both the woman who feels like she’s in over her head and the woman who feels like she’s got this! This will help you feel equipped and less exhausted trying to measure up with what you do/don’t bring to the table as you trust God to be all. Thank you Jess!
It’s a little different...
OK. Here’s the thing about this book… It’s different. It makes you look at yourself differently, your surroundings differently, and urges you to start living a little differently. Maybe that sounds scary to you (I know it scared me a little at first too). Luckily, though, Jess writes as if she’s sitting across the table at a coffee shop with you which makes the scary a lot easier to stomach. In this book she pushes you to reflect a little deeper, imagine a little harder, and open your mind to the possibilities of Christ’s strength in you. Why I liked this book and recommend it to my people is because it isn’t the same as all the other books I’ve read recently. While I will admit the message isn’t exactly new, it’s presented in a new way for me. In this message about recognizing our purpose and moving forward to make it happen, Jess pushes hardest the message that it’s all for the good and the Glory of God. Always. While you read this book you will be reminded of Truth about yourself, others, and God through scripture. You will be encouraged to take one step at a time (starting with the hard stuff) because God is our strength. You will finish feeling refreshed, encouraged, and excited to GO. Sister, you are the girl for the job – if you don’t believe me (or even if you do) this book is for you!
The book I didn’t know I needed!
You Are The Girl For The Job, is a message I didn't know that my heart and soul needed to hear. These words that Jess poured out into this book have been a balm of healing and freedom. Reading through the book, I have been so challenged to live in way that demonstrates that I believe that God has chosen me for this job.(whatever that looks like in whatever season) After all, he has always been using the unlikely to accomplish His purposes and plans. It is not about me, but it is about the God that is mighty IN ME! Thank you, Jess for pouring your heart out into this book. You are a mighty, cheer-leading, scripture quoting, powerhouse, who is reminding women around the country to let go of "their own understanding" and fully lean into Father's grace, capacity and, power in them! Believing with you that this book is going to be a catalyst for change in so many hearts and lives!
Prepare for Personal Battle with your insecurities...
Jess Connolly has long been one of my favorite bloggers, authors and a gem to follow on social media because of her grace filled "kick in the pants" style of writing. This book is the wake up call that we have all needed. You know that friend that speaks faith to every doubt you ever have? They get right in your face and refuse to allow you to remain in the lies? This book is all that and more. From page 1 to the ending, Jess has provided a manual for ladies of our generation to step up to the challenge before them: whether motherhood or mutual funds. This one is going my list of all-time reads for women.
A book for ANY and ALL women about God's capacity and purpose
Too many books I read make me feel insignificant or like I am not doing enough as a stay at home mom. They make me feel like I should have a side gig, I should be busting my butt working harder to do more, be more. You Are The Girl For The Job is not like that. This book is encouraging, this book is a dose of truth, and this book helps you see that God has a purpose and a mission for your life right where you’re at with your specific skills and your unique character. She reminds you that you already have an audience, even if you don’t realize it. There are always people that you can be reaching with the message that God has placed on your heart. She pounds home the truth that you were “placed here on purpose for the good of others and the glory of God.” It is a simple truth, but it is one that was easily forgotten in my past. It will not be easy for me to forget anymore. Jess has written this truth on my heart, while also giving me actionable steps to implement missional living in my life. If you feel like you need a guidebook to: leaning into your gifts, using what you’ve got, relying totally on God’s provision, fighting fear, taking the first step, and declaring yourself THE GIRL FOR THE JOB, then this book is 110% for you.
A stream of truth that rejuvenates my tried and parched soul. Jess, you are a gift.
Jess has a way of speaking honesty straight to my weary soul. In YTGFTJ, she reminds me of my place and God’s place and how they were meant to exist as I live, breath, work, and glorify Him. What freedom when I give up needing to be the hero and let Him write the beautiful story I am part of. Jess gives advice as we sort out where Jesus is gifting us and asking us to serve. The entire book is wonderful, thank you Jess for speaking constant truth to yourself and to me. Learning and growing with you brings such joy. Grabbing extra copies for a reading group with friends and a few Christmas gifts.
Make a move
I truly believe everyone needs to read this book! I have struggled in walking in my purpose and Jess lays it all out in how to shed the fear and insecurities. It was very motivating to me to know that I can make a move NOW and we already have permission from God to be on mission for Him. I feel like we have needed more bold leaders to call us up higher as Christians and I am so glad Jess is doing just that!
I loved this book!
It's convicting, raw, encouraging, and above all, rooted in Scripture. I love how the author continually points to Christ, reminding us that God alone deserves all the glory. The author is personable, relatable, funny--and hey, she's been to the Pacific Northwest! I loved her sharing near the end about a trip taken to Deception Pass, a bridge connecting Whidbey Island to Fidalgo Island. I've been over the bridge and the state park many, many times over the years, so reading that really made it personal for me. Loved the read and can't wait to see how God is going to work in me movinf forward.
You Seriously Are. And Jess Knows It.
You Seriously Are. And Jess Knows It. Reading this book is like a butt-kicking and a heart-changing all in one. Jess clearly lays the foundation for who God is and why that means you are the girl for the job. She shares funny anecdotes, serious Bible theology, and a push in the right direction in such a perfect mix. I so appreciate this book and it's message that we are not the girl for the job unless God is first the 'One Who Has Given The Job' and if it's in your lap know, it's your job. Jess takes away confusion by clarifying the concept of "the calling" and she was definitely The Girl For The Job of writing this book.
Do you need a good coaching session? ;)
Reading "You Are The Girl For The Job" is like going through a personal coaching session with a mentor. It's one of those books that you fly through because it's written in such a relatable, easy-to-read way that has you saying, "Amen, Sister!" But it's one that you would want to read again at least a second time to really dig in & do the work. Jess helps you to see that YOU are the girl for the job regardless of what the job actually is because YOU are not the one who is actually in charge or in control of anything. It's all GOD! HE'S GOT THIS!!! You just have to be willing & surrender to His lead. Jess gives lots of great examples from the Bible & her own life to walk us through this internal (and sometimes external) battle that we face to have faith in God and His plan when life is hard. I would highly recommend this book to all women everywhere. It helps to dig into those places that we often want to just ignore rather than actually address and face head-on. Thank you, Jess, for sharing your heart with us all!
Great encouragement to step out in faith!
You sometimes know when you're holding a book that is life changing and you can hardly wait to see it all unfold! Jess's newest book is JUST that. With every page, I felt layers upon layers of lies I'd told myself or listened to others say begin to fall away. I began to see myself less and less defined by my brokenness and inabilities, but more and more redefined by Who He says I am and what He is capable of in a willing heart. I wish I had this book in my hand, speaking so directly to my heart, MANY MANY years ago. I don't know exactly what He has for me in the future, but I KNOW that I feel MUCH more ready to embrace and accept that I AM the Girl. This book is a TREASURE and such a catalyst for stepping out of the shadows and back into my purpose. HIS purpose.
This book is for you.
This book is actually one of my favorite things I’ve read ever- and I read a lot. It’s powerful, convicting, encouraging and relatable. More importantly, it’s a message we ALL need. We need to be told that we’re the girls for the job, not because of anything we’ve done but because God says we are. This message has come at the perfect time for me and for the women of our generation. As Jess walks us through the steps she uses to coach women in all different paths of life, I found hope and practical tools to living more abundantly. I’m learning to say yes to what God is doing around me instead of fighting to build my own kingdom. Get this book- ya won’t be disappointed!
You are called...but God is the Mighty One
When I read the words Jess wrote that said, “this book won’t puff you up, but will point you to the One who has everything we need for this life”, I knew this was going to stir up something new in me. I have been walking through a season where I wasn’t sure who I was, but God pointed me back to His truth. You Are The Girl For The Job is a resource I can go back to when I’m not sure what practical steps to take. Jess shares examples from her life because she knows we are not called to walk this life alone. You Are The Girl For The Job reminds us over and over that God has placed us here on earth to share with Him in building His kingdom and bring light to the entire world. We can do the jobs He gives us because He is mighty in us! I'm so thankful for Jess writing these words of encouragement to point me back to the One who is the Way, Truth, and Life! God is the Mighty One in us and He will use the willing ones who surrender to His plan in our lives. Highly recommend this book!
Need a little affirmation and a push?
Jess uses the same writing style as her other books where it feels like you're sitting across from a girlfriend having coffee while she pours truth into you, but she's also accepts you. As someone who struggles with perfectionism, I especially resonated with the part where she talks about Ideal You vs. Actual You. She makes the case that Actual You is the one better equipped for the job because it has actual experience and has overcome hardships. This helped me validate my actual self and learn that striving to be ideal me is not the goal.
Amazing book!
I initially received this book as a recommendation to Read in a group in my church. I took 6 months to read it, but I believe in God’s purposes. I read in the right time. I highly recommend this book not only for christians but for those who feel down, hopeless and full of fear. I was like that, thinking about my career, my marriage and the fact that I am not a mom yet. A mixed of fear and confusion in my mind. Today I am 100% confident to say I am the girl for the Job, not because I’m qualified for it, but because God has gifted me with all I need to do his Job or any Job. Ps: I am a Portuguese speaker, and I really loved how simple and easy was reading and understanding the book!!
A message we all need
In a world that tells you that you can be all things and make all things happen for yourself if you just dream big enough and hustle hard enough, Jess is a voice we desperately need telling us the truth. You Are The Girl For The Job is a message every woman (everyone really!) needs to hear. It's true empowerment because it points us all back to the only true power source- Christ Jesus. I'm so thankful for this message in my life in a time where I'm questioning my own abilities. Jess's words turn that questioning upside down and point me back to Jesus with every page. I know it's going to do the same for so many women.
“Joy is our birthright, Hope is our birthright, Love is our birthright!”
“Joy is our birthright, Hope is our birthright, Love is our birthright!” I love this book and you need to read it, okay? Okay! The whole book is a complete breath of fresh air, at times HEART CHECKING but the overall tone will have you smiling and ready for the next season of your life! The second chapter about “Your Ideal Self” is the chapter I didn’t realize I had been needing for like my entire life...guys “Actual you” is a powerhouse. And speaking of Powerhouses! Jess Connolly has written to my soul for years! Every single time I pick up one of her books or read an Instagram post she's written it seriously speaks to the depths of my soul. So who is this book for? Well, I think that every woman should read it! Who it will speak the most life to? The woman who is starting to hear that whisper in her prayer time to go and do, the woman who has just taken her first step in obedience in starting ministry and even to the gal who has been in ministry a seriously long time and needs some new life and encouragement breathed into her! Pick it up for you and a friend you won't regret it
The encouragement I needed
Jess Connolly writes beautifully and profoundly about stepping into a calling that God has put on your life in her book You are the girl for the job. She speaks massive life giving words and it's amazing to hear God speak through this book. "If any part of our hearts is divided seeking to win rather than seeking to Wonder at his goodness let's just quit right now." pg. 38. She invites us to quit trying to be perfect, quit trying to have it all together. Quit having excuses that allow us to place God in a box and instead say no more. I'm showing up today despite my insecurities, in light of my mistakes and my past realizing I am human and will need God in every step I take so all the glory goes to him and none to me. God met me in a place I knew was a problem but never truly admitted through her words. She breaks down lies of the enemy and gives us steps to get to a place where we can receive the gifts God has for us. If you are a woman who is trying, using Jess' words, "to run on mission" and are tired of not even beginning because fear of failure or anything else Jess has a beautiful call to you that You are the girl for the job.
Praise the Lord!
I cried when I finished reading... 1. because I was sad for it to end! I would be okay with Jess constantly saying these things to me over and over for the rest of my life, and 2. because I was so wildly encouraged and pumped up! I started reading this book because I have 100% respect for Jess and her ministry. For me, she is the crux where fun, funny, and upbeat meets straight up, unashamed gospel truth. I didn't know what my "job" was when I started reading, and honestly I didn't think I would figure it out. Jess's words would have been enough for me in theory, to take along as I continue to journey into what God has called me. Truly in the last 3 chapters, the Holy Spirit revealed to me the lens through which I needed to hear these words, which probably contributed to the tears, and I felt a new wave of comfort, joy, and peace wash over me. Praise the Lord for Jess Connolly and the work He does in her life - and that she is called to share it with us. I'm a better woman because of it.
My eyes are opened and I am ready to walk in Gods call for my life!
I loved how encouraging Jess was in every chapter! You can see the energy in her writing just as you see I’m her study session videos. I would recommend this book for anyone looking for encouragement in where they are at in life, and especially if you may be questioning where you are at. Me being a military wife there are many things that keep me questioning my call and purpose and if I am the girl for the job because it looks so different then what I picture. Through this book and the guidance of Gods Word I realize even though I am living in a place I don’t want to be, this is Gods best right now ...maybe not my best but it’s His best and His best is always better than my best and my will and my desires. I choose to give this book 5 stars because it’s awakened the call God has on my life as a mother, military wife, and as well as confidence in knowing I am the girl for the job and I am where I am supposed to be. I am doing it right because it is His strength I am doing all things in and through! I am doing it right because it’s His will not mine !
Don’t miss out on what God has in store!
I was so excited about this book and it did not disappoint! What an incredible journey Jess takes us on! It is loaded with assurances that God is just so for us and we are truly the only one standing in our way. My favorite line from the book is this: “We have to take ourselves out of the running. We’ve got to give up on the pursuit of being the best or even doing it right, because it’s His power and His purpose that were always meant to do the heavy lifting. We’ve got to leave behind this picture of our ideal selves that we hoped we’d eventually become; we’ve got to quit hiding who we are, so we don’t get hurt or hurt anyone else. And in the name of Jesus, we’ve got to quit telling God He’s got the wrong girl because (A) if we don’t acknowledge that He knows better by this point in the game, we’re being crazy, and (B) eventually He may listen to us and use someone else. And then we’ll be the ones missing out.” I definitely do not want to miss out on anything God has planned for me. Jess reminds us that we just have to trust and believe and surrender. It’s not easy, but we are the girls for that job!
Applicable for everyone- in every season.
It's interesting how one moment I can feel on fire and as if I AM the girl for the job,and then in the next moment my actions are suddenly stalled because fear has gripped my feet. "You Are The Girl For The Job" beautifully addresses so many of the very things I have thought and felt as I've tried to live a life that honors Christ. It also gave me SO MANY different tangible tidbits of encouragement that have helped me to shake loose the chains of fear. "Does it serve others and bring glory to God? Then it doesn't matter how small or mundane it seems. You know what won't change the world? Abstaining from the simple, small, life-giving things you were meant to do because you believe they're too simple or too small." In this season of my motherhood it was refreshing to be reminded that I AM the girl for the job, and I can start exactly where I'm at with what I have. "If you believe Him, believe in His character, and power, and take Him at His Word-- it will change the world." If you desire to live out a life recklessly pursuing our creator in the unique way that he has called you to do so, you ARE the girl for the job, and I know that this book will encourage you along the way.
Must-Read!
If you're going to read one book about purpose or passion or mission this year, make it this one. Seriously. You Are The Girl for the Job is equal parts a kick in the pants and an encouraging cup of coffee with a friend. Jess reminds us that no matter our circumstances, God has called us to this specific, time, place and work and He equips us to thrive, regardless of our circumstances. His boundary lines are sweet and He has called us to bless others and glorify Him and if you’ve lost that sense of purpose in your life, I would encourage you to read this book. I think the thing that resonated with me the most, which is touched on in the introduction, is the idea that we get to participate with God in encouraging and loving others and to not leave that job to spin instructors or self-help books but to live in the joy that it is to fulfill God’s calling on our lives as we allow Him to equip us for the job He’s given us. I think this book will help anyone, whether homeschooling a brood of children, starting a non-profit, or just on that corporate grind because it’s not about the what you’re doing as much as it is about the who you’re serving and what He will do in your life.
This is a Life-Changing Book!
If you have a Dream, a Vision, or even the hope of one... READ THIS. NOW. Don’t wait, don’t stay stuck in the waiting or feel like you can’t get out of the messiness that is your life. If you feel like a failure as you chase down a dream... READ THIS BOOK. Praising God as I read it, scribbled down notes and felt the Spirit fill me with renewed passion for the Vision I’ve been given. Absolutely, positively INCREDIBLE. Thanks, Jess. For going through the pain and the struggles it took to get you here. For listening to the Holy Spirit while you wrote. For sharing this with women.
The message my generation urgently needs
"You Are The Girl For The Job" carries the message of hope that my generation desperately needs. Not hope in myself or my strength- but hope in God's capacity and God's power to work through my weakness. If you're looking for an empty self-help encouragement to "pull yourself up by your own bootstraps" and "follow your dreams", then this is not the book for you. However, if you've been exhausted and worn down by cultural messages that tell you to just try harder and do better, then this book will be a refreshing nourishment for your soul. "Trying harder" is not the solution to experiencing abundance, and Jess clearly lays out the alternative that is dependent on God's perfect strength. After walking away from this book, I am more confident than ever in God's power at work in my life. This book is giving me the new language to fight against lies from the enemy that are manifested internally and externally. It has changed how I encourage my friends to endure through challenging seasons. I want to share this message of hope and life with as many people as I can.
You need this book! So so good.
This has been one of the most encouraging books I’ve ever read. Jess writes in a way that makes it feel like you’re talking with your best friend, but has the wisdom of that great mentor you always wish you had. This message needs to be heard. It needs to be read, and re-read and shared and screamed from the rooftops. You are the girl for the job. Whatever job your in. Whether it’s what you imagined or what you never dreamed of, whether it’s ministry or marketplace, whether it’s at home with your babies in diapers or in corporate America, you are the girl for the job. Not because you’re good enough, strong enough, smart enough, pretty enough, capable enough, but because HE is capable. HIS capacity at work within you is enough. The sooner you quit (trying in you own strength,) the sooner He can takeover. You are the girl for the job because He is the God for the job. You must read this book. You can’t afford not to.
This is the book we all wanted "girl wash your face" to be
This is not a "you do you" girl power book. This is a gospel-infused God power book. Jess gives us the courage to step into God's power, face our fears (which are not from God), find our people and just be obedient to the callings He has placed on our heart. In a world that tells us that we just need to "hustle" more, do more, be more and that we are capable if we just try harder. Jess tells us that we are not capable, but God is. She keeps pointing us back to scripture and infusing our hearts and minds with truth. I will be gifting this book to many of my friends. - Sarah
My authentic self is better than my idealized self for serving God and His people.
This book y'all. It's everything I needed to hear to proceed boldly into the next season of ministry that we are being called to. It has it all; honesty and conviction of weakness, but it is so bound up and covered in the grace and power of Christ. It leaves no excuses, because our potential doesn't depend on our capacity, it depends on our God, and His capacity is infinite. What reassurance. I know myself too well to think that I am capable of great things that are always consistent with who He says I am. What freedom that He is God. I love that He has made each of us to reflect differing parts of Himself, as Jess writes, "And He never, ever passes by brokenness in order to play with the more manageable kids on the playground." As a recovering goody two shoes, I need those words. Jess says, "We’re missing our chance because we’re too caught up in our own lives and in the fear that we’ll do it wrong." Let's stop missing our chances, draw near to God, be ready to apologize, and get after it Girls! We are the Girls for the Job!
What you are doing matters!
"You are the Girl for the Job is a book about agreeing with the sovereignty of God and purpose of your life. If you believe the Word of God is true then you have to believe that he has placed you in this very moment on purpose. It is devine. It is not happenstance. As, author, Jess Connolly takes you through these truths and puts the truth alongside all the excuses we use- our weaknesses, our past, our fears- we can see that we can do these great things because God put in these places to help others and glorify Him. He will not leave us to do it alone. This book is perfect for the woman who feel like she is being called to something big but just can’t wrap her mind around how it would be possible. This book is for the woman who is unsure if she is doing anything that really matters in this world. Yes dear friend you are."
Jess is the motivating friend all women need!
I zipped through this book much faster than I anticipated! It had me nodding, highlighting, and reading lines out loud to anyone near me. Each chapter built on the one before with insight and encouragement wrapped in scripture. Jess feels like a close friend or sister, building you up by telling the hard truths with love, funny stories, and biblical principles. "I refuse to miss out because I'm focused on myself, my insecurities, or my perception of my own capacity." So good! This book is worth a read once a year for every woman, to remind and motivate herself that her calling is more than her day-to-day life, yet could also be shared with a friend about to step out in faith on a new journey, business, ministry, etc.
powerful and life giving
You Are The Girl For The Job is the encouragement and conviction that this generation of women desperately need. I have been a fan of Jess Connolly for years and have loved her heart for cheering women on through coaching. Now, we all get some of that coaching insight with the beautiful reminder that it is GOD who equips and calls us to the mission at hand. I already have bought a copy for friend of mine and am planning on buying it for another as well!
Love this book,
I haven’t even finished the book yet, just starting chapter 13 and had to come on and order a book for a girlfriend. I’ve already done several things in my life over the past couple of days that ordinarily I wouldn’t of done because of fear or insecurities. Each time turned out amazing, first off I didn’t die, lol, most importantly God received the glory and I feel stronger, and I’m looking for opportunities more now then before, and I haven’t even finished the book. Jess you are a wonderful storyteller and you handle the Word of God like a master, thank you. Oh and since I know you read reviews my name is Alison not Doug 😊
Every girl needs this on their shelf!
This is exactly what any woman needs. Your best closest friend telling you “ girl you are the one!” Stop the self doubt and bite the bullet. Get to know that inner voice and know that God can and will help you through those heart desires. This book is a blueprint to get through that wall that you need help breaking down. Stop being scared and start being excited. Let God show you that yes this is for you! Jess writes as a pen pal to you, showing you the way, the truth, the light from the distance. Such an inspiring book, every girl should have this on her shelf.
The beauty about being not enough!
I've never met Jess, but she has been one of my greatest teachers. Starting with "Wild and Free", "Dance Stand Run" and now "You are the Girl for the Job", Jess does exactly what she says she will do: encourage, support, and relentlessly keep pointing you to Jesus. I read "You are the Girl for the Job" after a summer of major anxiety and fear. I felt like Jess was speaking directly to me when she talked about how that fear prevents us from intimate moments with God. Since reading it, I've tried to adopt Jess' go-to attitude in boldly not letting fear and anxiety prevent me from seeing what God is doing. But what's so refreshing about "You are the Girl for the Job" is that as Jess prompts us and advises us to make changes, she simultaneously reminds us that we will never be able to do it perfectly, and that's the point! We are not enough, and that's why we need Jesus. Thanks for going first Jess and giving us so much truth!
Women! This book is for you and for now!!
You Are the Girl for the Job is the perfect book for any woman who is feeling less than or like she's not enough or maybe too much. It digs in deep and pushes you to believe that you are the person that God intended you to be. Jess tells it like it is, but also with a kindness that makes you feel like you can be friends with her. She wants every woman to believe God wants her just as she is, no qualifications other than a willing spirit. While I struggled with certain parts simply because of the season of life I am in, other parts spoke so much to me I was aching. If you have ever doubted who you are and what you are supposed to do, please purchase a copy and be ready to understand what God desires from you.
You are the Girl that NEEDS to read this book!!
The message that Jess has for us in her new book "You Are The Girl For the Job" is a bold empowering one. I love that she boldly proclaims that we are mighty when we lean into God's power within us. She lays out 6 really clear ways to step into our God given purpose and truly live it out! It is filled with really practical advice that draws from such deep spiritual truths. So often in these type of books that center around empowering women, the truth of scripture is watered down or completely left out of the message... not true with this one from Jess! She leans into the Word and all that God has to say about us and the mighty works that He has set out for us to do. If you are looking for an inspiring book that will set you on fire to go out and make a difference in your home, community and world, this is the book for you!
We all need to hear this
You Are The Girl For The Job is a book encouraging women to fully believe the fact that they are called by God to accomplish His purpose. When I say fully believe, I mean fully; it’s a wake up call to all that we have access to as daughters of God. Jess reminded me that God’s power in me is so much more than a feel good phrase to put on a coffee mug—because it’s literally His capacity the Bible tells me to rely on when it comes to the thing that God calls me to do. I have been so encouraged by the truths about relying on God’s strength that Jess reawakened for me in this book. I firmly believe this book is a game-changer for anyone who believes they’ve been called by God to do something, whether that something is motherhood, ministry or any other form of mission. It's the fire I needed to move forward on mission, unapologetically - thank you Jess for this book! (And for the BEST gift for all of my girlfriends!)
Read this book!!
This is the book that everyone needs to be reading! It’s full of Biblical truth and encouragement. Jess faces hard truths head on all while pointing you back to Jesus. This book felt like I was in a coaching session with her. She walked me through steps for finding a vision, facing my fears and then gave me practical first steps. This book has truly changed my life in such a positive way! I’ve already started making changes in my life. There is so much freedom knowing that I AM going to mess up. But that’s ok, because that’s where God meets me. As long as our focus is for HIS glory, then we’re on the right path. You need to read this book if you’re struggling with where you’re at right now. If you need reassurance that YOU are the girl for the job! You’ll be hit with biblical truths that constantly encourage you and point you back to Jesus. You won’t regret reading this book!!
God calls us worthy for good work for His kingdom and we all need this reminder!
This book is going to transform the culture of Christian women today! Jess's message is one of exposing long-term "norms" and "beliefs" that we all hold, and replacing those with real truth from the Bible with who God is, who He says we are and the individual calling He has given to each and every one of us. If you don't know what your purpose for the kingdom of God is yet, this book will help you find it! If you feel a call to something specific but are stuck in doubts or fear of the unknown, this book with help you speak truth to the lies of the enemy and realize the power of God in you, simply because you're called His own and He calls you worthy. You Are the Girl for the Job is a book that any and every God-following woman should read, with the goal in mind of stepping into every good thing God has planned for your life. You are the girl for the job!
YATGFTJ is the book for the job!
It is full of encouragement, truth, wisdom & some tough love for all the generations of women. In a time when we can easily doubt our effectiveness & compare ourselves to the earth-shakers & ground-breakers of our time, Jess lovingly reminds us that God calls each of us to critically important work for The Kingdom! Each chapter is layered with Jess’ wit & approachable teaching, supported by the rich foundation of God-breathed scripture. I’m actually certain that the chapter written about fear & failure was actually a personal letter written from God, through Jess, to me. Her words will ignite your passion for leaning in to what you feel God nudging you toward. You will remember your place in the kingdom & God’s value on your life & you will feel equipped to put your feet to the earth and do His work in this world.
MUST READ for ALL women!
Be prepared for life giving words that leave you with no excuses to not leave this book changed. Jess uses her gift of inspiring women to walk you through why you are the woman for the season, place, time, and story you’re in. Throughout the book, Jess gives powerful illustrations and anecdotes that hit home and make you realize “God really did choose me and he will use me. I am the girl for the job”. Jess states “you are the girl for the job: what you have inside of you is what He has perfectly ordained for you to use for His glory.” This book is a book that EVERY woman should read because we all have felt inadequate for the roles to which we are called whether it be motherhood, ministry, marriage, or mission or anything in between. If you’re ready to live on mission for the glory of God and the good of others then pick up this book and start reading.

For ALL Women
This is a message our generation needs. We have to got to stop trying to find just the right thing at just the right time so that we can create our perfect instagram life dream. No. May it not be so anymore. This book is a match that I hope sets a fire to our generation. A fire that sets thousands of women on mission right now, right where they are, doing and being all God has called them to, even if that means doing the laundry for the third time in one day. We are the women for the job. And the job is to live the abundant life with an incredible God, on a beautiful mission that may look exactly like or nothing like but infinitely better than anything we could have ever dreamed or imagined.
A timely and important read for all women!
I read “You Are The Girl For The Job” and I found it to be very encouraging and just what women need to hear in today’s world. I get weary from all the self-help books that tell me I can do it all on my own strength. Time and again when I try to, I fail. Yet this book by Jess asks us to go deeper than our own strength. She says - yes we are made for something great but it can only be done in and through our faith in God’s grace, provision and abundance. Through Jess’ honest stories and encouraging words, I felt more empowered to step into my daily life trusting that God’s strength in me is enough to do what I’ve been made to do. No matter the season of life or circumstances, this book is for you! I look forward to reading it again and sharing it with friends!
A must read for all women
Jess brings it once again!!! This book is something special. It honestly isn’t what I thought, it’s better. She points it all back to God and takes the focus off of us. It’s about God’s capacity not my capacity or power to get things done. You are off the hook. In this book you are reminded that you are here on purpose and for a purpose because the God of the universe planned it so. He wants you here! He is the Mighty One. You are the girl for the job! This book has genuinely changed and help me confront big lies I have been fighting against for so long. So thankful God used Jess to write this book at this present time. Worth the read.
Hear God's Call
This book is such a gift to our generation. I know what it's like to be discounted or left out on the sidelines. I also know what it's like for people to care deeply enough to tell me I'm the girl for the job. I know what it's like to believe them, and what it's like *not* to believe them. I can't say enough how much I appreciate Jess Connolly's voice--not: Not "Rage until people pay attention" Not "You are more than enough. Pull yourself up by your bootstraps and hustle" but "It's actually not about us at all, but about stepping out in obedience and God meeting us with his abundance." That's the message we all need. Every day. This book is clearly for all women--different life stages, questions, struggles, gifting, and on and on. We all need to hear that Jesus has called us out of insecurity and comparison, and into humble courage. Get this book!
I didn't know how much I needed this message. Now, I know it's one we all need to hear.
I didn’t realize just how much I needed the message(s) that this book holds. In an age where self help books are rampant and everyone seems to be seeking the power within themselves to do all the things, it is incredibly freeing to be reminded that the most abundant power within us comes from the Lord and that He calls us to do simply what He has called us to do - not what he has called everyone else to do. Every chapter of this book leaves me feeling exposed and loved all at once. This book has spurred me on to better recognize the simplest of callings God has placed on my life; it equips me to follow through on those callings - even when I’m fearful of failure; and it has shifted my mindset towards better living life of for the good of others, and the glory of God.
Highly recommended for spiritual transformation
You Are The Girl For the Job has been such an encouragement for me! Biblically based and saturated with scripture, it reminds me that the story is not about me but that everything I do is all about bringing God glory. I don’t have to worry about how to bring to fruition what He has called me to do because that’s His job! My friendships are not only for me but to bring glory to Him and to encourage others to draw closer to Him. The gifts He has given me for His service must be used to make much of Him. He is the best Giver!! I can not recommend this book enough for those who really want God’s best in relationships, ministry and service.

You are the girl for the job.
I needed this book. ❤️ Jess Connolly talks-and writes-like one of your favorite friends. In her latest book, she speaks to the thing we allllllll need to hear. “You are the girl for the job, and you’re the only one who can obediently act on what He is calling you to.”—Jess Connolly Jess walks us through letting go of expectations to embrace our reality of being who He made us to be, doing what He calls us to do. This isn’t about girlpower, sisters—it’s about God’s power. Read it. Live it. You’ll love it. ❤️
This message is going to change the culture
This. book. is. SO. GOOD. I am learning so much. In a season of life where my personal limits are continuously being exceeded by the demands of trying to intentionally raise two children, homeschool one, run a home somewhat functionally, be a halfway decent wife and keep the dog alive... it’s really refreshing to hear the message that “His capacity + your obedience = abundance”. All I have to do is obey. The Holy Spirit empowers me to obey beyond what I think I am capable of... my capacity to fulfill my calling is actually not limited by me. Which, duh but also 🤯 I’m so grateful for this book (which I now have in paper, Kindle AND audio form so I can consume it on all the levels) and for @jessaconnolly for giving women the tools to go forth in courage and confidence to do what God has made us to do. We are the girls for the job!
Jess did it again!
She did it again! What I love most about Jess is the passion she brings to the faith conversation and how relatable she is to so many women, regardless of where they're at in their own faith journey. As someone who has questioned and wondered (and even at times doubted) in my own faith journey, I've always felt both seen and encouraged by the the words Jess writes and the truth she speaks; this book is no different. Her voice is both relevant and timeless and her words are validating and challenging, comforting and inspiring. Time and time again, Jess points back to God - to His word, His truth, and His unique plan for each one of us. It's hard to read this book and not inspired to take on God's call to action in your life - this is a book I'll surely read again and again.
More than Self-Help - MUST READ for all Women
You Are the Girl for the Job / Jess is an important critical voice for this time. In a world of self-help, empowering messages, Jess cuts through with crystal clear biblical advice. It's not about us, it's about God's capacity and abundance. She takes the pressure off, goes first and points back to Jesus the whole way. This book is a beautiful offering from Jess' life and God's heart to our hands. What a honor it is to read it. Thank you Jess for being a prophet of the generation and midwife of mission.
Lifegiving Message/ No Blowing Smoke
Holy smokes - only God would have known I needed this book at this exact moment in time. Life is challenging! You can only pull yourself up by your bootstraps so many times, or gaze at insta-inspo quotes so many times before you think "GUESS WHAT. I AM *NOT* ENOUGH." The great news is that God is enough and He is abundantly able to equip and strengthen you. You are the girl for the job not because of your own merit, but because of HIS. This is a message for a generation who is ready to quit the unhealthy cycles of self-pumpup, and start refocusing on God's capacity instead. I loved being redirected to give all of myself for the good of OTHERS and the glory of God instead of what was good for ME and for my OWN glory. Lifegiving!
So so so so good!!!!!!
Such a beautiful book that encourages us that we are capable of so much more than we think. That what God has put inside of us is enough! We don't have to keep up with the next person, or the next! That what we do is for HIS glory, and that it is NOT about us. The entire time I read the book I thought about what Jesus told us to do. Love God, and love your neighbor. This book is about the good of others and the glory of God. We can do so much more than we think right where we are!! Please read this book, and really allow yourself to be encouraged in HIM. Read it with a friend so you can encourage each other too!!
Your Obedience + God’s Capacity = ?????
This book came into my life at just the right time. I was in the middle of moving towns and transitioning jobs. I didn't realize how much I was constantly doubting the direction my life was headed in, and doubting that I was the right person for what was ahead of me. You are the Girl for the Job reminded me that it's because of who Jesus is that I'm equipped to do what's ahead. My obedience, together with His capacity allows me to walk in his abundance!! I can rest confidently in my gifts+talents and with the passions the Lord has given me in this season of life. SO grateful for this book and the way Jess communicates the message. I want to live my life for the glory of God and the good of others!
Favorite Book This Year!!
Wow. Where do I even start. Just an absolutely fantastic book. Encouraging, motivating. Causes deep soul searching. Causes you to really stop and think about how you’re living your life. I’ve already recommended it to many gals in my life! Thank you Jess! Also, I started reading it again the minute I finished it the first time!
YOU ARE THE GIRL FOR THE JOB... even when you feel like you just can’t!
How many of us feel ill equipped to do the things the Lord has called us to do? Jess is here to tell you YOU ARE THE GIRL FOR THE JOB. Written like your best friend is chatting with you over coffee this book will inspire you, grow you and stretch you to accept your God given mission and run with renewed confidence the race He has placed before you. “It’s time we quit arguing with God about our inadequacy and start relying on His capacity.” Read this book, quit, take yourself out of the running for perfect and begin relying on Gods capacity to do the amazing things He has called you to do!
She speaks TRUTH in LOVE grounded in scripture.
Jess Connolly is such a fierce champion of women. She speaks TRUTH in LOVE grounded in scripture. She is beautifully vulnerable. You will feel like you are having coffee with your girlfriend while reading this book but not just in a feel good way, but in a challenging way. Jess pours out the perfect dose of encouragement, and strength for the journey. While reminding you it is ok to feel inadequate because we have an awesome fully adequate God that will equip us along the way. Get this book in your hands, you won't regret it. Let her inspire you to remember you are the girl for the job!
NOT a self help book! It’s a “Let God Help You” book.
This book!!! This is the book we need, right now. It's like a gentle, yet firm, kick in the pants--encouraging and compelling you to stop making excuses and to DO WHAT GOD IS ASKING and CALLING YOU TO DO! But, my favorite part is that every word is supported by the Bible. This is not a self help book. This is a "let God help you" book, a "let God be God in your life" book. This book will light a fire under those of us who are willing to quit trying to do it all and be it all and are truly fed up with letting our fears run our lives. Do not read this book if you are not ready to get uncomfortable. Do read this book if you know you need a push forward, a very godly and well-written push forward.
*CLAP* *CLAP* *CLAP*
Jess Connolly has done it again. HER WORDS TRULY ARE A GIFT and encourage you down to your core. If you have ever questioned yourself, if you ever had a fear in the back of your mind -BUY THIS BOOK. And then buy it for a friend as well because things this good are better done in community. And then read and pray and let the Lord work in the ways that he does as we are his vessels and we are only the GIRLS FOR THE JOB because of the "God of all Capacity who calls us, equips us, dwells with us and enables us"[paraphrase from "YOU ARE THE GIRL FOR THE JOB"]
Get this book!
You Are The Girl For The Job is an incredible book! The best part of the book for me was hearing how we don't have to be afraid of hearing God wrong. It gave me so much confidence and closure to know God gets all the glory as long as I'm following and obeying him. If you want a cheerleader to help you run the race God has given you, get this book!
Step up. Stand out. Be the girl God has created you to be.
Step up. Stand out. Be the girl God has created you to be. Ladies— we have been listening to the wrong voice for FAR too long. We have brought the lies, settled for less— time after time. We are made in the flawless image of our Creator and had our sins paid for on the Holy Cross. If you need a reminder of whose you are because you are tired of the comparison game that we make up, this is your book. This is your reminder. Jess gets raw and vulnerable throughout these pages and reminds we are God’s and we have a job to do that He has created us for this moment. This is the day. This is our time. Let’s go and be who God has formed us to be.
Important Message for Today’s Women!
"Are you stuck? Are you afraid to move forward where it really matters. Do you wonder if God can really use a broken mess like you? Jess Connolly has a word, or two, for you! Using stories from her real life struggles and deep biblical truths, let Jess guide you through the ways that God says You Are the Girl Job. “But then I remember. I was the least likely to succeed, and I bullied a girl named Molly when I was in middle school. I barely graduated high school, and I was dating a drug dealer when I was in seventh grade. I remember that by nature, I’m a lazy liar who is out for her own good—but then Jesus grabbed my heart when I was fifteen, and everything changed.”"
Must read book!!!
I would buy this book for all my girl friends if I could afford to! It is changing the way I look at myself and God’s purposes for me. I will come Back to this book again and again to read these words of truth. I love the way this author is so transparent and real. She says she wrote this book for herself, but I am SO thankful she shared it with all of us!
Changing culture for the Kingdom
Jess Connolly has a special anointing on her life and the way she rallies together women from all seasons of life to run hard after Jesus and to be real, honest and life-giving along the way! This book is going to help shape and change the culture and language of women in community! Not only does this book teach you according to God’s Word it also challenges you to step into and faithfully live out YOUR calling. I plan to give this book as a gift to many ladies running with me and behind me for years to come!
YOU are the girl for the job.
This book has been such an immense blessing for me! Jess has carefully articulated every word to encourage, equip, and empower women to step into the life that God has prepared for them. Jess consistently reminds us that it is with God's capacity and our obedience that we get to experience abundance. Her words are convicting and filled with so much biblical truth and wisdom, all while reinforcing the fact that we do not have to ask permission to be who God has already called us to be. Jess is so real, so authentic, and so very honest, and her words are certain to inspire a movement of women who live unabashedly in pursuit of their God-given purpose—one faithful step of obedience at a time. Without a doubt, I have yet to read a book as truly impactful as YATGFTJ—this message is just SO necessary. It will most definitely be a book you want to share with every single woman in your life.
So. Much. Goodness.
This was an AMAZING book for women of faith at any age. I have already bought multiple copies for the girls that I lead at my church (high school age). This book empowers you and feels like a truth bomb on every page. I am so thankful that I read this book when I did at a time when I really was questioning why God had entrusted me with my current role at church and why I am investing so much time in seminary. From beginning to end, you will feel encouraged in the God-centered truth that Jess presents! Thank you for this, Jess!
Powerful
I'm finishing up the audiobook today. I just bought five hard copies for my friends and I to go through this together. I think it's so powerful and encouraging, and I can't wait to see what God does in our ministry with the teaching from this book.
Soulful discovery of your unique self
It’s time to say goodbye to the “what if’s” & “if only” voices and allow yourself to absolutely LOVE the unique person God designed you to be. Jess Connolly’s coaching style clearly comes through as she takes a step-by-step approach in her book guiding you towards abundant obedience. My favorite part was Step 3: Use What You’ve Got, where she helps you recognize the gifts God has given to you. She explains “All of you is perfectly designed by all of Him so that you can impact, grow, change, and ignite the world with His love today.” This will definitely be a book that changes your self-perspective. Her candid real life stories, scripture of truth, and sound advice are perfectly woven together to make this book applicable to any stage of life you are in.
Great writing infused with vulnerability
I enjoy the honesty in Connolly's writing. This book is perfect for those hovering on the edge of indecsion or fear. Her words will give you strength and encouragement to seek his will no matter what your skillset is currently. Well done.
Buy this book!!!!!
When I first heard about YATGFTJ, I was really struggling with the faith that God could use me for ministry. I thought for sure I had heard a calling, but I watched as each opportunity became ""not yet"". Surely that meant that God had changed his mind on me-- He didn't need me anymore. But Jess' book reminded me the truth of the Gospel-- God doesn't need me for ministry. But He does want to use me-- and you. You are the girl for the job through the power and grace of God. If you have ever doubted if God can use you, if He wants to use you, read YATGFTJ.
Worst Christian Book on market!
Author has no sense of established Christians. Examples used are that of a nonchristian or maybe young? There is a significantly negative tone of the book. Lots of scriptures used but not good references or correlation to the examples or point she is trying to make. Don’t waste your time. I wish I could give 0 stars.
Buy this book!!
LOVE. THIS. BOOK! As a young, single girl, I often feel not “the girl for the job”. I feel under qualified and inadequate, and those feelings lead to so many insecurities. This book is helping me to remember 1. That I’m called and 2. That because I’m called, I’m not walking alone. I cannot leave God’s coverage is when I’m going to the places He calls me. So thankful for this message that I didn’t even know I needed! God is meeting me in some real ways through this. Thank you, Jess, for penning the charge I need.
Love love love this book
What to say about a book that speaks to women everywhere about how with God and listening to God they can be everything they were designed to be? Oh I just said it. READ the BOOK it will change who you are and how you think!
Must Read
Everything Jess Connolly writes is extremely inspiring, relatable, and rich with Biblical insight. You Are The Girl For The Job is nothing short of that. Every chapter encourages me to stand firm in the work that God has for me, all for His glory! What I love the most though, is that it's not a fluffy message that empowers me to do more, or add more to my plate. Jess gets at the heart of our motives and helps us build our confidence in God and all the wildly amazing things He will do through us and in us, when we do it for His glory and the good of others.
Powerful book for all women!!
This book is exactly the encouragement I needed in this season of life. Jess so honestly shares her heart and the goodness of God with us. I struggle with feeling unqualified at my job and sometimes in my personal life, but this book encouraged me that God has placed me here for a reason! I feel so encouraged and spurred on to stay planted and continue impacting the world as God is calling me to in this season.

Jess Connelly is the voice this generation needs! She pours out her heart and so much Biblical truth that calls women into the abundant life found in Christ. This book will stir your soul and leave you thirsting for more Jesus!
Every business women needs the reminder form this book
This book is honest and vulnerable. Her heart for women is so real and hearing her struggles in the midst of writing this book was exactly what I need in this season. I am launching my own business at the moment and the simple fact that she obeyed Jesus in writing these words so that I can read them when I need them the most, is what it is all about. Jessica you are the girl for this job. Thank you for your obedience! This book will help any business woman who loves Jesus and is questioning whether this is the right job in this season for them.
Must Read!!
This book y’all. If you don’t have it, get it! If you have it, pass it on! Throughout the entire book, Jess affirms and empowers women in the calling God has placed on them. For me, this meant taking myself OUT of the race. It meant not focusing on being the best or even doing everything perfect. But rather focusing on the One who is the absolute best and completely perfect. He is the one who has called and equipped me to be the girl for the job. This book has spoken life over me and has used truth found in Scripture to disassemble the lies of unworthiness that have clung to me for far too long. So if you are struggling to believe that God could use you or if you just want a closer look into the Father’s heart for his daughters; sister, this book is for you.
This the book our generation of women needs!
This book was like a huge gulp of fresh air for me. Biblical truth, relatable stories, and precious encouragement that we are the girls for the job. Our obedience + God’s capacity = abundance! How freeing and powerful that we can stand firm in the belief that He didn’t make a mistake in putting us exactly where we are, with the people around us, and the calling He’s given us. If you’ve ever doubted yourself or your calling, read this book—you are the girl for the job.
A great God-focused read for ALL Women
This book is just the message women need in a world that’s filled with comparison and compromise. It’s filled with encouragement, hope and promise for what God holds for each of us if we simply lean into Him. Jess writes in such a beautiful and relatable way that truly each woman will walk away with something resonating deep in their soul. I highly recommend this one!
EVERY GIRL NEEDS TO READ THIS BOOK!
Jess's book "You're the Girl For the Job" is the book today's women have always needed. Jess talks about life's trials and triumphs and points them back to scripture to confirm that you ARE the girl God made you to be. This book is so encouraging - while reading it, it feels as if Jess is casually sitting across the table from you, coffee in hand, encouraging you to be the girl the Lord made you to be. The passion Jess has for women all across the world really shows through in the way she wrote this book - I personally think every woman in the ministry field should read this book. Thank you Jess for taking the tools the Lord has given you to bless more people than you will ever know.
This book hits the spot
Every gal gets to a place in life where they question if they're good enough, or right enough, smart enough.. the list goes on. Jess hits the nail on the head with this book. I felt as if she was speaking right to my heart. With so much encouragement and advice this book is one I'll come back to again and again. As women we are always comparing and questioning ourselves and it's time to stop. With this book every gal will know they are the girl for the job. No matter the job.
a HUGE pressure release.
From the introduction to the last chapter, Jess walks her reader through truth after truth about WHO we are and WHY we’re here. This is not another self-help book, but a book that refocuses is back on God and the work He’s doing in us. It impacted me so deeply and will be a book I go back to over and over again. Anyone reading YATGFTJ will be blessed and RELEASED from the pressure to be the best and simply rest in being WHO God has created and called us to be.
🥰🥰🥰
I haven’t been a fan of Jess Connelly for long, but I can say her books never fail to disappoint. I was looking forward to this book when I heard it was coming out and I could never have imagined what would show up in those pages when I opened them. She shares so many empowering statements, you’ll be stopping to write them down. I was hardly into the first chapter when I was pulling out my notes to write her words down for a rainy day!
This book will change what Heaven looks like!
Jess has outdone herself with this one! Well.. the Lord THROUGH Jess has really shown off, let's be real. I am so deeply grateful for this book's message. I praying expectantly for the Kingdom to grow because more & more women are going to live out their gifts and callings, in Jesus' name. Proud of you, Jess!! This book is a gift to the world. Thank you for your obedience. xo!
A Powerful Message Everyone Needs to Hear
This book is needed in today’s culture. When women can be so focused on comparing themselves to other women, there needs to be someone to tell them to quit it. And Jess Connolly does just that in this book. She challenges women to quit trying to be the best and be the you God called you to be. Because God called each of us to a job and that job is for us and no one else. This book is uplifting, inspiring and challenging. This book calls women to look at who they are and go do the job God called them to do.
Awesome book!
What an excellent book! This isn’t a typical “girl boss” or “boss babe” book. Rather, Jess encourages women to step boldly and courageously into their own God given calling and gifts. All the praise hands and all the stars for this book.
Must have book of the year!!
I don’t know where to start...this book is life changing. I though for sure the woman writing it was at least my age (50) because it felt packed with wisdom and life experience, but turns out she’s in her early 30’s! My favorite parts are how she brings everything back to the Word - no apologies needed. I have been so afraid of the call on my heart, and I’m still nervous but I now know what my first steps are...and I am on fire to honor the mission He’s put within me. This book has started so many amazing conversations between me and my friends and loved ones. I just can’t recommend this book enough!
A much needed message
In a time where we hear the ra-ra message of "you can do it" all around I love how YATGFTJ points us to the ONE who really does it through us. Jess takes you through personal stories, Biblical truths and continually reminds us that it's about God's capacity and our obedience. I also appreciate the practical steps Jess coaches you through. This is definitely a well highlighted book I'll come back to again and again!
Love it! Buy it!
Get out of the way and Trust God has you where you need to be to do His work. That work is hard and wonderful and Jess walks you through each step of getting to really trust and feel You Are The Girl For The Job!!!
Everyone needs to read this
It is just what I needed to hear. I have highlighted so many of Jess’ words & will continue. I will be keeping this book instead of passing it on, therefore I have already bought a THIRD book to give to a friend and I will be buying more for Christmas presents. This book is full of truth and enlightenment. I think that Jess really made this book what it is by pulling scripture directly into the book and explaining it and how it relates to us! Love it!
Super book to empower women in Christ
Great book! I’m buying for every woman- young and old.Jess has such a sweet spirit- breathing life and courage into the plan God has for each one of us!
A Love Letter from God to My Weary Soul
This book is a gift to all women. Rooted in the truth of Scripture and the character of God, the reader is taken on a journey of perspective shift, deep freedom and open invitation to be used by God right where you are, with all that you bring with you. Also I’m pretty sure Jess and I would be friends in real life. Everyone who reads this will probably feel the same. Thanks for your faithfulness, Jess. You were the girl for this job.
You are the girl for the job!
If you've ever wondered whether you will miss out on the calling God has for your life or if you'll mess it all up, you need to read this book! Through six main steps exemplified by relatable stories and Scripture, Jess walks you into the belief that you are the girl for the job- whatever job that may be- because of God. She shows that we can take our eyes off ourselves (our capabilities, etc) and onto God (who is powerful and limitless!) This book makes you feel understood, ready to throw off your excuses and step into the role God has already called you to.
A Must Read
Have only read the first three chapters but recommend. Great book that every woman should read. Gets you out of your own head and focused on what God says about you.
The book you never knew you needed!
If you’ve ever felt discouraged or doubted the calling on your life then-get this book! Jess Connolly thank you for writing this! I Love this book!
Love this book!
This book gave me so much to ponder. I love the author's honesty, sincerity and her effective way of communicating the heart of God.
This book!!🙌🏻🤩
This book!! There isn’t a better time for this message to come out into the world. Whether you are a stay at home mom raising world changers or a CEO for a company leading the way, I think we can all struggle with listening to lies from the enemy. Jess provides scripture and solid truth to help fight and battle against the lies. No matter your place right now, I think God will use Jess’s words in this message to encourage you.
So real and relevant! Just what I needed
"You are the girl for the job" is changing my life! It’s exactly what I need to hear right now in this moment and season. I cannot put it down. I’m underlining and writing in the margins. I’m having countless conversations with my husband about the topics brought up in this book. I’m screenshotting sections and sending them to people because the message is so real and relevant. Buy this book. You wont regret it
Praise be!!
YATGFTJ is about encouraging women that they are the girl for the job because of our God who calls us on mission. And that’s exactly the message I need to hear! Jess does an amazing job at capturing this message and spurring women toward mission with practicality, encouragement, and tools to equip us. This book is no doubt coming at the perfect time as God is changing the language in our hearts and He is doing so through Jess’ words. Praise be!
Love so much.
I loved this book so much. Bought on a recommendation from a friend and I have since passed the same reco onto others. I loved everything this book had to say and it was very easy to read. Highly recommend.
Excellent read...rich in scripture
I was so moved by this book that I bought the study guide and DVDs in order to study the book with a group of Christian friends. While the author does share some of her personal story, the book is not simply a testimonial from one author's perspective. It is rich in scripture and points the reader to seek true worship!
Must Buy
This book is a MUST have!!! We as women need to read this and absorb the truth that God is speaking to us through this book.
If you’ve ever doubted yourself READ THIS BOOK
I can’t tell you how much this book meant to me. I think I highlighted 90% of it! Jess, you may not have known it at the time, but you wrote this for ME. It couldn’t have been more timely, more relevant, or more needed during this time of my life. Thank you for proving to me without a doubt that I AM the girl for the job! Now I’m off to change some lives!
Challenging + fresh.
This doesn't read like every other women's Christian living book out there. Jess hits straight to the core and doesn't hold back. She is wildly encouraging and challenging in the best possible way.
Christ-centered encouragement for women!
This book has been so encouraging to me as we have recently moved and are starting a church. The book helps point to God's provision for us in the purpose He has called us to. I have been struggling to know what my role is in this new chapter of life, especially being the mom to small kids. I feel unable to do things because of tiredness or busyness with them, but this book has given me hope for my calling again. I think anyone struggling to feel enough for their current chapter in life will really be encouraged by this book!
Biblical response to the sometimes toxic positivity
I am a wife, mom, church planter and entrepreneur and in this world of BE THE BEST, BE AMAZING, BE MORE, I often feel like I’m not enough. This book is exactly what my heart need to hear! It is not feel good fluff or self help cheerleading. It is rich, deep, unchanging truth I can stand firm on! I highly recommend it!
Captivating and authentic. Didn’t want it to end!
I just finished this book today. Overall, it took me two Saturdays at the coffee shop to read through. So quick, powerful, — really powerful read. YATGFTJ is captivating, relatable, authentic, and useful. I want to capitalize on it being useful because so many books are helpful but not necessarily useful. This one is. Thanks for writing this Jess. Thanks for being ugly honest. Speaking God’s truth. And reminding us that God doesn’t want us to shrink back.

A gift from God!
This book came my way just when I needed it most. Like the author, I've been spending a lot of time in the shadows lately. This book helped me reconnect with God's purpose and vision for my life. So many rich nuggets in this book! I definitely tested Monroe's highlighter! I know I'll come back to this time and again. So grateful that this book came my way. Must read, ladies!
Inspired by God
This book was not only well written but I could feel the prayers over each chapter. The Holy Spirit has used this book to speak right to me each day. One day, I read a part of the book that said Jess prayed for the people reading that very part, that God would speak to them....well right at that very part I felt the Holy Spirit speak! Hallelujah 🖤 Thank you Jess!

You Are The Girl For The Job is full of bold encouragement to see ourselves as God sees us: equipped, enough, and ready. Now. As we are. Ready to pursue the things He’s put on our hearts and ready to do it confidently. Jess reminds me that it’s not all about me or my capacity but it’s about my Father’s capacity. And girl am I thankful for that!

No resume needed :-)
I have spent too many years discounting myself as a potential leader because I’m a female. In truth, it’s not about me anyway, right?! It’s all about Jesus and resting in His power and call for my life! I love how Jess uses scripture and personal stories to draw our focus off ourselves and onto the One who doesn’t care what our resume looks like. We are the girls for the job!
