Each beautifully designed chapter covers a different topic—the meaning behind her name, how vitiligo has shaped her definition of beauty, her childhood hairstyles, raising her children as a 20-something mom—and ends with thoughtful advice and lifestyle takeaways like how to tie a headwrap or incorporate new, bold colors into your wardrobe. Woman of Color is real life, real style for women from all walks of life. In it, LaTonya has written a love letter to women, filling this book with vulnerable, imperfect truths from a black woman blogger, a voice not often seen on bookstore shelves.

Great book!
I'd never heard of LaTonya but this book caught my eye when I was browsing so I gave it a shot. I really enjoyed this book: it was a quick read which I liked (read it the day I bought it). LaTonya didn't give the reader a bunch of filler, it was just like talking to a cool girlfriend about life, family, style, etc. The photos are really interesting and well-chosen. The fashion advice was great, not over the top at all. Definitely two thumbs up!
Such a beautiful book!
I just finished it after forcing myself to not rush through it in a day (I could have easily read it all in one day because each page was better than the next) LaTonya is such a gifted writer! Hers is the only “mommy” type blog that I actually follow and I always knew there was so much beneath the surface and then the book showed that there was way more than I even expected. It was really really really wonderful. I hope she has many more in the pipeline ❤️
gorgeous, thoughtful book
I've been reading LaTonya's blog for years, so I was thrilled to hear that she was coming out with a book! Even though I tried to read it as slowly as I could, I devoured it super quickly :) it's a series of vignettes about her life growing up, motherhood, style, and her identity struggling with vitiligo. very approachable and well-written. i loved it!
Go for it! Order this book!
I just finished reading Woman of Color. I read it in two sittings. I could have read it in one, but I had to go to bed so I could wake up for work the next day! It’s that good. I did not want to put it down. This book captures the LaTonya’s spirit and her experiences and it is also a source of inspiration. I closed this book and feel as if I’ve gained so many insights that I still need to sit with and unpack.
Get to know your history, parents, grandparents, ancestors!
The book is great! It did not come with a cover! The book is colorful, informative & love the vintage pictures! I am so looking forward to read this book. I was hoping to be on a beach reading this book. Well, maybe in the back yard near the fire pit!
Beautiful!
LaTonya has created a wonderful, moving, and intimate portrait of her life and experiences. Without being too preachy or melodramatic, this book offers insight into the private life of a Black mother, friend, sister, writer, and genuine soul. Her voice is deep yet completely accessible, and the photos included bring everything to life. This book can be read in one sitting, and is incredibly satisfying. Highly recommend!
Perception vs Reality
The perception is that the book was about different women, but it's about only one. Other than that it's good material to read.
a soulful rendering of life as a contemporary black woman.
LaTonya Yvette’s memoir is so beautifully written and celebrates the inner and outer beauty of black women in a way that is both soothing and refreshingly approachable and honest. She writes with the poise of an author wiser beyond her years. Definitely a must read for anyone looking for a soulful rendering of life as a contemporary black woman who’s come into her own. Especially insightfully are the interviews she does with other woman of color on various topics ranging from beauty to loss. Well done LaTonya!
Beautiful thoughtful book!

You won’t be able to put this down!

Color, style, and a living life well!
Beautiful book, wonderful read. This is life qunitisentially! LaTonya proves that ordinary life is amazing - you don’t have to have it all or constantly travel to far away places for it to be wonderful, and she showcases this masterfully. I have learned so much about womanhood, motherhood, family, life, feeling comfortable in my own skin, and of course, color! Buy it for yourself, for friends and family!

Love this book
I love this book. I read the first half in one sitting and only stopped because I wanted to savor it more. LaTonya Yvette’s voice is so true and her writing beautiful, even about difficult topics. She shows such courage sharing her story with the world, even from the evolving position of young mother. She’s relatable, funny, and candid. Buy this book!
Open, Honest, Real
LaTonya writes as if you are a close friend, sitting next to her on a stoop in Brooklyn. You want nothing more than the stories to go on longer. You feel her pain and share in her joy. It's insightful, heart warming and beautifully celebrates woman of color.
