The young man Col and the daughter of the Wisewolf, Myuri, survived the scripture riots in the port town of Atiph. Col spends intense days being pined for after Myuri tells him about her love.
Meanwhile, Heir Hyland commissions them for another next job. In the coming war with the Church's forces, control over the strait between the Kingdom of Winfiel and the mainland will play a crucial role. While Myuri is excited for a new adventure, Col cannot hide his unease after hearing about potential heresy among certain pirates for their faith in the "Black-Mother"!

Not the best of the series

Honestly, while it was still good, this was one of my least favorite among the series as a whole. There was very little dialogue, as it was mainly thinking or description. The first two chapters and the majority of the third could have been half the length without sacrificing anything. It seemed that Hasekura repeated most thoughts several times to add length in those chapters. By the end of chapter 3 onward, things finally got interesting and kept my attention completely. I wish that more time would have been spent on the ending though. It felt a little rushed in my opinion. Hasekura could have shortened the repetition of the beginning in order to add to the ending. While they definitely made Myuri and Col their own people, at times I felt Hasekura tried a bit too hard to make them the new Lawrence and Holo. I think he made Myuri far too wise and intelligent at times with a complete 180 shift into innocence as if to remind people that she's not Holo. She's a child. I don't feel that she should automatically be smarter and wiser than adults 2-3 times her age. Her heritage should be fine at explaining why she's on par with them, but not so far beyond them that she likely could do the entire journey on her own if she knew more about the world. Overall, it was a good book just not as well told as the rest. The premise is amazing. The interactions between Col and Myuri are very good, but just not long enough. While it's clear that Col is inside his own head a bit too much, I don't feel that the amount of explanation and repeated thoughts are quite that necessary to show it.

Dry Read for a lot of warer.....

This book, the second in the series, was a very long read for me. It's very dry, and really takes a looong time to actually get started. Without ruining it for others, this book is down the water, up the water, and back down again many times. All I will say, but you'll get the meaning of and when you read it. It lacks a lot of the charm that the original Spice and Wolf series has/had. Myuri is a great character, but Col is about as dry as a sponge left out in the sun for way to long. He has no real development. The story of this book (#2) is basically boring and clearly stolen and modified from a particular set of Disney made movies. I hope the next one (book) is a little better thought out.

Great :)

My S&W collection for the english light novel is complete for now :) It arrived in great condition.

Very good.

I like the story of this series.

Five Stars

This looks like it will be as great as the original Spice and Wolf, cannot wait for Vol 3!

Great Author

Touching story, please read

The saga continues

So the adventures of Col and Myuri continue - this time it’s cold, dark, and there is a miracle on a distant and lonely island that may hold the key to success int impending war between Winfiel and the Holy Church. And Col is the one who has to decide whether the miracle island is a reliable ally! This is more philosophical and less mercantile than Spice & Wolf but the same gentle energy runs through it and it benefits from that familiarity. New readers should beware - at *least* read volume 1 of Wolf & Parchment but ideally read all 17 volumes of Wolf & Spice first :)

A warning from a long time fan...

It is written extremely well for a light novel, but this'll be the last of the series I'll buy, reason being the prevalent incest tones between Col & Myuri, I've been a fan of Spice & Wolf since forever, but having a brother x sister in one of my all time favorite series is just sad, used to be something I could recommend to my normal friends, now it's something to steer clear off. I'm suprised I lasted as long as I did. If you're looking for a nice fantasy novel with a focus on economics and some pedo-incest romance, this is the book for you.
