Who Was Betsy Ross?

I bought this for my 10 year old who decided to be Betsy Ross for Halloween. She read it in one day, and said it was "educational and interesting." She said she loved it just like all the others in the Who Was series!

Great little book. We buy lots of Who Was books and use them for homeschool enrichment. Short chapters, larger font, and lots of pictures make these books an easy read. This was a great addition to our collection.

I learned that Betsey Ross had quite a few children, that she met George Washington, and that she was a widow many times". The 10 year old LACHNES MONSTER bought this book with his birthday money, and could not wait for it to arrive, when it finally arrived, it did not disappoint! Excellent read, perfect for the 10 year old age range, and perfect for young history buffs. Great illustrations and time lines, for interactive learning.

I purchased this book for my daughter, who is entering second grade. She loves the "Who Was" series of books, they are easy to read and engaging. Great learning tool for primary school kids!

This book series is very decent. Sometimes I have to edit out content while reading aloud to my 6 year old child so I wouldn't recommend these as an audiobook for anyone younger than 10 r more.

For the school library - the children love the series

These books are fantastic for kids and adults- lots of interesting, engaging history. My daughter devours these!

My daughter loves these books!

The Kiddo read this on his own last summer, and I read it recently before he passes it along. This was better than I expected it to be. I learned a lot about Betsy Ross' life beyond just the legend of her sewing the first US flag, and I also learned quite a bit about Revolutionary War era Philadelphia. The book put a good emphasis on Betsy Ross as an independent business owner and entrepreneur, and it did not shy away from the tragic elements in her life. The actual story of the flag is treated carefully, with the book acknowledging the lack of historical documentation behind the story, but it manages to still make the case for Betsy Ross as an important figure in this chapter of American history.

The Who Was series is fabulous. Every title is popular with our 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders. They run from 3rd - 6th grade Accelerated Reader levels. The books have plenty of good information for biography reports for 3rd-5th graders. The information is accurate and put together in an interesting chapter format. There are illustrations (black and white) running through each book to enhance the story. The quality of the paperback is good. These are a "go to" for our students. I have over 100 of them because of this in our school library.

I learned so much about BR in this book. I wonder why the name Ross stuck with her, even though she was married to two other men after John Ross died.

She deserves to be in the company of American patriots. When the flag that she created led our troops in battle or was hoisted above Fort Mc Henry as the Star Spangle Banner was written, you will better understand her importance to our national victory.

My 8-year-old son loves this series! We homeschool, and these books are a great supplement to our history curriculum.
