Careful! They might send you the UK version!

Be careful when ordering that you get the right edition. The first time I ordered, they sent the UK edition. It isn’t labeled at all, you just start reading and notice that they talk about different healthcare issues and use a lot of different British slang. Reordered and got the correct edition. Frustrating though. See picture for different versions. UK is on the left.

Did not enjoy.

This is my first pregnancy and I was looking for a useful resource to educate myself on what I was going on with my body and what I needed to be prepared for. I really tried to read this book, but every time I picked it up it made my morning sickness worse. The writing used made me feel more like a child (which made me feel more out of control and panicked) when I wanted to feel like an educated adult. I ended up throwing the book away. My husband asked me why and I told him I didn't think it would be helpful to any other woman I know and I wouldn't want to give someone something I didn't personally like nor recommend. I bought the Mayo Clinic book and find it well organized and informative, and I feel more at ease about pregnancy in general when reading the book. I truly am enjoying that book and would definitely recommend it. In particular, they discuss what you need to think about when traveling which I found helpful when my husband and I were planning our "babymoon". I'm not sure if What to Expect did this also, I didn't get far enough, so I can't compare regarding this section.

Areas of misinformation.

I purchased this book because it’s well-known. Admittedly, I felt like it was one of those books every expecting mother should read and I didn’t investigate the type of content that would be covered. I found very little useful information in the book and certainly nothing was covered that wasn’t discussed in every app out there. I also found it annoying that there were sections on HIV, diabetes (gestational and non), etc—these topics do not pertain to the general population and those that do need information about these topics need an entire book and close monitoring by a professional to be at all prepared for pregnancy with those conditions. It felt like fluff to bulk up the book as nearly no reader could benefit from the included information, even if they had the conditions. Furthermore, the writing style is a little too cliche, filled with puns and childish humor. Just because you’re an expecting mother doesn’t mean you now talk and think like a child. The target audience feels like expecting teenagers, not expecting adults. Finally, there are a few areas of misinformation and, when I read them, it discredited the whole book. For example, page 155 under the Manicure and pedicure section it discusses cutting calluses and notes, “...(never mind the fact that the more you cut calluses, the more they grow back).” This is completely untrue and is written in as FACT! I won’t get into detail about how calluses form, but they don’t form because they’re cut away. They form as a result of friction or overloading caused by a biomechanical or musculoskeletal factor. I almost quit reading after that point and once I got to the end, I wished I would have.

No Science Here

I feel like this is the book every newly pregnant woman thinks she HAS to read to be prepared for the next 9 months. Things are presented as facts, but provide no scientific backing. A cursory search of Heidi Murkoff does not reveal what exactly makes her an "expert" in the field. There is a section in the book about how to contour with makeup, in case you're worried your face has gotten too fat. Not exactly what I was hoping for. She also says the "for dad" sections are for any partner involved, so why not word it as such? I read Emily Oster's book first, "Expecting Better", this is the only one I needed. She looks at studies and sites actual numbers, doesn't just pull weird facts out of thin air and body shame pregnant women. The what to expect app is also just one giant amazon advertisement and I don't recommend it.

Riddled with inaccuracies (and annoying interjections)

This book is riddled with factual inaccuracies -- while smoking during pregnancy is definitely harmful, the womb absolutely does NOT fill up with smoke if you do -- and makes claims that have been repeatedly refuted by science. In addition, the constant interjections (always in the form of parentheticals) got old after about the first page, but they continue throughout the book (it gets annoying) (doesn't it?). There are a TON of books and other resources out there on pregnancy -- choose a different one if you want accurate information that doesn't sound like it was written for a third-grader.

Very very thorough, all your doubts and questions (even weird ones..) are answered here. Good for daddies too!

I wish I have had this book when I had my first child (18 years ago!). Lots and lots of very useful information, specially for those mommies (like me) that are a bit apprehensive or anxious and get easily concerned. The information is presented very thoroughly, yet in a way that is very warm and sympathetic. The app is a very nice complement for the book, as you can get videos, picture, forums, etc. that add to the reading. My husband really LOVES this book, and he says it has been very helpful for understanding all the changes (and challenges) that I'm going through. He also loves to to learn week by week how our baby is growing and what to expect for that week. Absolutely recommended for all the moms and dads to be!!!

Great reference guide for parents to be

Husband and I love to read this together, as we feel it gives us a nice heads up on what to expect week to week. The Q&A part is also great, as there are many questions on there that we can relate with, and we get giggles out of some of the Dad components, which are really a nice add-on and make this book feel like its made for all participating members. Pregnancy really is wonderful thing, but there are so many unexpected and unknown components to it, it can get really intimidating and scary. Reading what others are going thru or have done thru is really comforting, and it helps us get our questions ready for our monthly doctors visit (there are so many things you don't even think about asking!). Its also been great to truly have a reference guide on what to expect, and what tests are coming up, so when they do happen, we are better prepared and can get to the core questions answered by our OBGYN. Recommend this to all expecting families, it has been really helpful for ours.

I recommend this book for all expectant parents.

Bought this for my son and his girlfriend to read together as they take the journey into parenthood together. I read an earlier version 23 years ago, and this version is proving to be as helpful and interesting to expecting parents as the older one was to me. As I watch them reading together, I am struck by how this book helps to foster an immediate connection for both of them to their developing baby. Very cool when a book can provide important information and evoke an emotional response.

I hated this book

I really wanted to like this book. As a first time mom, I was excited to be pregnant, but nervous about pregnancy and delivery. I thought What To Expect When You’re Expecting was going to be some definitive guide to alleviate concerns; after all, it’s so popular - it is just what you read when you’re pregnant! Well, unfortunately, I couldn’t find anything particularly useful or informative. The language is way too fluffy, casual, and cutesy. It is very much like “hey girl, do/don’t do this”. I seriously read through maybe 1/3 of this before I had enough. I truly hated this useless book.

Highly recommend for new moms!

I found this book to be very informative. I am entering my third trimester and it has been pretty spot on with everything. It's an easy read and I always look forward to reading what is coming next. I highly recommend this book for new mamas. There is A LOT of information in here but I am the type of person who wants all the details so it worked for me. I highly recommend this book!

Not impressed

I barely pick up this book. I find it boring. It’s just full of words with no anecdotes to make it interesting. There is literally a whole chapter on why you shouldn’t drink or do drugs. I tried reading the first few chapters, but it was all common sense stuff I already knew. This book has been a disappointment. I wish there was something out there as captivating and interesting as the books my husband gets.

An Updated Classic!

For most newly pregnant women this is the first book they think of when they first found out they are expecting. It was the first book I bought when I first became pregnant back in 2008 and now that I am pregnant again I was happy to find out that the same book I loved then has been updated and revised to reflect the most up to date medical information. I did read this book cover to cover, but most will only read the chapters detailing information about a particular month(s). Either way works. There is a ton of information available and it really dips into most common (and not so common) issues many pregnant people will find very helpful when they forget to ask something at those 10 minute OB appointments. It is read more like a text book, so it is difficult to keep interested in some parts. However, again most people will only read specific areas pertaining to their unique situation or timeline. It is a great read for anyone who wants to read cover to cover as well as for those who will only make use of the index. It is a classic that will continue to aid pregnancies for years to come.

Extremely repetitive, goes into agonizingly long boring detail about the simplest things. Boring.

Not impressed. Very patronizing and boring, I felt like they spent just pages and pages going into the most agonizing and redundant details about such simple things. And oh man the amount of repeating crap in this book, they tell you the same things OVER AND OVER. And the things it recommends are absurd to me (make sure you log everything you eat and the amount of each vitamin and fat in every thing you eat every day! Um, no, I don't have time to sit there and do calculations about every single vitamin in everything I eat each day. Or when it says to take 4-6 week classes on EVERY type of birthing/labor method so that you can pick your favorite. Who has the time and money to take 4-6 week classes for 8 different birthing methods?! Or when it says to sign up for a full class on c sections so you're prepared in case you have to get one?! Wtf, I'm not signing up for a 4 week medical class about how c sections are performed, I don't need to know that, I just lay there while they cut me open).

Redundant and ok

Everyone told me to buy this book, including my OBGYN. I hard time wanting to keep the pages turning. I love reading in general, but this book was very redundant in many sections. Also, I found myself skipping past of ton of sections that did not apply to me. I think the dad sections would be more useful to an entire section of the book or maybe an entirely different book for them. I stopped reading after page 248 to browse other pregnancy books. I currently love reading The Healthy Pregnancy Book by William Sears, MD and Martha Sears, RN. I didn’t wanna stop reading it.

A Must Have

Love! This book contained so much valuable information. My doctor kept saying everything was fine & I didn’t need to do anything but after missing out on some testing during the first trimester I decided to read ahead in the book. Thanks to it I was able to go into my appointments well informed and able to ask for certain tests with enough time to complete them. This is a must for any pregnant woman. I’ve already purchased the What To Expect The First Year & cannot wait to read it!

Information/Advice Feels Surface Deep

I'm pretty surprised by how basic the information/advice is in this book. Particularly the nutrition section that hardly dives deep into the best foods for baby. I could honestly write a more elaborate chapter than the one I read and I'm hardly an expert. It's as if the author is too scared of backlash to make any firm nutritional recommendations. The formatting is also annoying and the language used VERY simple. As another reviewer mentioned, it's as it the book is geared towards teenagers instead of adults. In search of another book with a more modern/extensive/bold approach to discussing the journey through pregnancy.

A classic with limits

I know this is a classic passed on from mom to moms, but I was startled to discover the author does not have any medical training and some of the information was a bit over alarmist according to our doctor. A nice book to have, I certainly would not recommend against reading it but do be aware that you should find additional sources to supplement the content of this book.

Not the best option anymore

Its an ok book. I had an earlier version heard ago so i thought i would get this one for my daughter during her first pregnancy. She found it boring and not very helpful and could easily find accurate information elsewhere that was better explained and not as long. I think it might need a format update to catch the attention of the next generation of young moms with all the technology available and information so readily available.

Not for the modern era

I just disliked this book so much. I get why it was so popular, back before better books emerged. But now we have books like Expecting Better and Bringing up Bebe. Expecting Better is the new bible for pregnancy. It's simple, straight-forward and well-researched. Why I disliked this book so much? So much of it was anecdotal. Even in the pointed Q&A section that includes questions like 'when to tell your employer that you're pregnant,' the response was more than two pages of random musings - with advice that included something about considering whether your office is "gossip" heavy. And it literally never answers the "when."

A time-tested classic

I agree with other reviewers who find the cutesy and pun-infested writing mildly irritating, but that said, this book is a classic and a mainstay for a reason. It covers everything. It's so comprehensive that I'm able to breeze through a lot of the stuff that doesn't apply to me, but I'm sure there are women out there who appreciate that it's inclusive of their situation. While I think we have to take some of the advice with a grain of salt (i.e. "don't eat soft cheeses and salami" - uhhh I already gave up wine, sushi and coffee - you're not taking away my charcuterie platter too!), this book has directly addressed nearly every question that has popped up for me during my pregnancy and for the most part I've found it reassuring to read. While Murkoff doesn't have traditional credentials for a book like this, the advice seems to be in keeping with the standards of the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology and the CDC, plus, there's a foreword by an MD and professor of obstetrics. Surely this book has had plenty of time for peer review and edits as we're now on the 5th edition. For those considering/recommending Emily Oster's book Expecting Better - keep in mind she is an economist, not a health practitioner either, and take a look at the negative reviews. Recommending wine and massive amounts of coffee in pregnancy is reckless and basically rolling the dice against a potential lifetime with a FASD baby for a mere fleeting moment of pleasure. No thanks. All in all, I'm glad I bought WTE as I feel more confident now about my pregnancy and have a good resource for many of my questions.

The obvious choice

This book is so popular and classic I didn't even shop around when I found I was pregnant I ordered it immediately. It has everything you need to know (and a lot of things you never wanted to know) about pregnancy and birth. Highly recommend...In a lot of cases the book is actually more picky than my doctor (particularly regarding diet), but that is good because I can have the extra information and decide how careful I want to be based on my lifestyle and priorities.

Educational but not inclusive of same sex couples

Great book for educating new moms on all of the exciting things happening week by week throughout your pregnancy. However, I’m surprised that in this day and age that the creators of the book haven’t changed the context/language to apply to same sex couples. Everything talks about how “dad” may be feeling, how “dad” can bond with growing baby, and a whole section on sex while pregnant which is entirely geared towards heterosexual couples. Discussing “going down on him” and “swallowing is perfectly safe” is really not what my wife and I need to be reading when going through this journey. Might be time to come out with a new edition that is more inclusive of same sex couples.

Waste of Money

I understand that this book is classic, but honestly it was a waste of money for me. Unfortunately everything in here can be Googled or asked to your doctor.

The ULTIMATE pregnancy textbook

When I discovered that I was pregnant, my sister recommend that I browse Google Play for a pregnancy tracker app. I found the What to Expect app and fell in love immediately. At the time I had a vague knowledge of this book so I searched for it on my Kindle and bought it. I started reading it immediately and it has been a blessing to me and my family. I was a naieve pregnant woman who clearly needed help in the knowledge department. This book helped me to start my journey as a new mom armoured with sufficient information to get me started. Since having my baby, I've continued to read books in this series and I am now using the app to search for specific information more easily and to track my baby's development. I will recommend this to everyone!

We lost the baby but this still helped

I purchased this book 23 years ago for the birth of my first son. It was so helpful that I purchase it for every expectant mom as soon as I hear the big news. Recently, someone I love announced that she was expecting. I quickly turned to amazon and ordered this book for her. She was overwhelmed at first since it seems so thick. I explained that she only needed to read a chapter a month! It is more like a reference guide than a book. She read the introduction chapters and the first couple month chapters. Sadly, she found herself turning to this book when something went wrong. She lost her baby. I am still grateful that she had this book to turn to in her time of need. I will continue to purchase this book for every expectant mother that I know.

Great gift

When my son was born 28 years ago, his mother and I used this book to guide us in the thickets of pregnancy. My son is now a father, and I sent this to him to help him and his wife. They found it helpful 28 years after I used it. You can't go wrong with this series of books.

Informative, but not my style

This definitely includes anything and everything you want to know about pregnancy. TONS of information, organized by week and month. The writing style was not for me, though. It's oddly informal and joke-y. I read one review before I bought it where someone said the interjections in parenthesis were annoying and too frequent, and I though "geez, how picky," but IT'S SO TRUE. It's long winded and lots of sections could have been shorter and more to the point. I would have preferred to read the same information in a different style. Again - LOTS of information though, especially about specific pregnancy scares and complications. If you have a simple, healthy pregnancy, there's way more to read here than necessary....but good to know just in case.

Not written by a doctor

I'm in the middle of my first pregnancy and I got this book because it was recommended on nearly every pregnancy book list. Every time I have cracked it open to get more information on each week of my pregnancy, I closed the chapter feeling terrible. Whether I was afraid from the scary scenarios of what could go wrong when you're expecting, or I felt guilty for not doing what the was preaching at me. The more I read the more I felt like I was doing everything wrong. Then I finally started researching the book itself. To my surprise I found out that this book was not even written by a doctor. The creator of the book has no affiliation with any kind of medical degree. The more I researched the more I found that many doctors don't recommend reading the book because of the fear it instills during pregnancy. At the end of the day this book is less what to expect and more what you must do. After reading it with a more skeptical eye if feels more like a book written by Instagram perfect women for Instagram perfect pregnancies, not the average person who simply wants to be better informed.

Glad I bought this, very helpful

This book has been a great reference throughout my pregnancy. You only have to read a short amount each month so it’s not as overwhelming as it looks, and you can skip parts that don’t apply to you. There’s also small sections every once in awhile for the dad to read which have seemed helpful and informative. I don’t follow everything they say as far as things you aren’t allowed to do, because my doctor said they have to put every single possible thing in there to cover their boundaries.

Moms need this info!

Better than expected. I waited to write the review until I really got the full read. First time mom approved. Perfect read while pregnant. Great for first or second refresher. Better than others opinions. I ordered 2 more for friends expecting after I fell in love with this book. So much info. A must have for moms. Great value for the money. Would order again. Fast shipping and they work amazing. Thank you.

LOTS of great info and I highly recommend, but it's not well-written

Okay, so i'm thinking of getting pregnant soon and wanted to read this to see what i would be getting myself into. This book has answered almost all of my questions and worries about pregnancy. There's so much information in here that i had no idea about, and it's very educational yet comforting. My only reason i'm giving this 4 stars is because it's not well-written! For some reason, the authors have an obsession with parenthesis and use them so unnecessarily (mostly for bad jokes). There was even one sentence that had 5 parenthesis in it and it was honestly just annoying. Other than that, it's a GREAT book that i highly recommend to anyone having a baby. I just ordered the next book, What to Expect the First Year, and am excited to read that as well.

Nice guide for the new parents

I bought this for my niece who is expecting and her first child.. I bought one for myself 25 years ago and it is a good read.. It helps parents in every way from what the baby looks like at 3 weeks, what is developing all the way up to the 3rd trimester and how the baby is forming every step of the way. It does exactly what it says.."What to expect when your expecting".. Good value for the money and it is very helpful... I would definitely recommend this book to any new parent.. It also helps both the new mommy and daddy read together to get a better understanding of what's what...

Lots of info, tone needs updating

Lots of info, lots of detail. Its the standard for good reason. If you are ambivalent about your pregnancy get ready for lots of references to your "blessing" and "bundle of joy". Weirdly, they have a bit abiut how they realize that not everyone is a married hetero couple, but decided to refer to husband and wife throughout it anyway, like, they know that's kind rude and exclusive but they wrote this paragraph so not their problem. Needs updating. Also, previous editions had a painting/drawing if a vague adult woman on the front. This edition changed that to a photo of a woman amd the model they used is 15 for some reason. No. Really, zoom in on her face. She is 15. It's unnerving. Still very informative though about what happens to your body. If you need practical advise on things like money, preparing, what to DO before it's born, youll need a supplementary book.

Expected More

This books is rambling, ill-organized, and quite frankly lacking any helpful or new information. I was very disappointed with it and surprised given its popularity. I talked with my doctor who recommended the Mayo Clinic Guide to a Healthy Pregnancy which has been FABULOUS and a complete 180. It is much more straight forward, and reading it feels like having a conversation with my doctor while I’m comfy on my couch. I hope it helps some of you who might have been head scratching at why one of the most popular pregnancy books is so popular. :-)

Not the same as shown....

The book sent to me is surely the same content, but different cover and quality. I actually read a chapter of this book in person before purchasing and the "real copy" has more quality. This book has thin pages, cover, and has no color inside. Just spend the extra dollar and buy the higher quality book. I am returning this.

Awesome book!!

This book is awesome! As a first time pregnant momma to be, I was very curious what to expect and be aware of. This book covers just about everything about the growing baby and momma; changes happening on a weekly and monthly basis, dietary changes to make, skin and body care, and so much more! Best of all, it's written in a way that makes me feel so excited and happy and not worried or too concerned about the future. I'm keeping sticky post-its on the pages I'd like to go back to as the topics pertain to me more. Highly recommend!

Calmed me down with practical information

I have read almost every page of this and am 35 weeks pregnant. It has been so helpful with literally letting me know the range of things to expect. I feel like I can go to doctor’s appointments well-informed with targeted questions about what’s right for me and my family. The book relies on research and science while also acknowledging less traditional options and then discussing pros and cons. I’m very much a planner and this has made me calmer throughout my pregnancy. I even ordered What To Expect The First Year already so that we’ll have that when our son comes home. Planning on reading while he sleeps...we’ll see.

You NEED this book!

Terrific for the expectant parents. Keeps you abreast of your baby's development and answers many of the questions that arise so often during pregnancy. Has chapters addressing complicated pregnancies, preparations for common birth defects, miscarriage and infant loss as well. Covers home, natural, typical medicated, and cesarean deliveries. A must for first time parents and a treasure to veterans like myself who used it as much in my 8th pregnancy as I did in my first. Each of my children will be receiving a congratulatory copy from us upon their first conception.

For conservative pregnancies

This book is great. However this book is designed for the conservative woman in many ways. Some of the information included isnt backed by updated science. Anything that isn’t heavily researched is just a hard pass for these ladies. There is no mention of stats based on info that’s available. The nutrition suggestions are ideal but in many ways unrealistic. Still recommended, there’s a ton of useful info for a first time parent, but eh... the hype is a little high for what you end up getting.

Gold standard of accurate and enjoyable information

This is the gold standard of all pregnancy books and the other “What to Expect....” books are fabulous also. They are continuously updated with the latest information and advice, science based but extremely easy to read and very enjoyable and reassuring. Bought these for daughter and daughter-in-law and the husbands read them too!

So detailed- anxiety

The only thing I dislike about this book is it caused me some anxiety. I felt like there were things in this book written in tremendous detail that people should not be so focused on. I understand this is probably my own personal preference and having more information is better than less, but the list of dos and dont’s and make sure you consider this items were lengthy.

Great reference guide!

I like having this book as a reference for my first pregnancy. I am not reading it cover to cover because not all applies to me and my experience, but I love that it covers everything from symptoms, baby's development, nutrition, exercise, and more! I like reading the weekly updates and learning about how baby is growing. I also have the What to Expect app, which pairs well with the book.

Niece Considers Book her Baby Bible

I bought this book for my niece after a co-worker suggested it. She absolutely loves it & thoroughly enjoys reading it. My niece has said she's wanted to read ahead plenty of times but has resisted & just stays on course. My niece also joined a blog the book recommended, she finds that quite interesting too & has shared her own stories while reaching out to others. This is my niece's 1st baby & I am so glad I purchased this book for her. I really look forward to hearing what size the baby is & as of this past weekend, it's an eggplant!

Not for the faint of heart!

As a first time mom, I wanted to be informed about what was happening to my body and my baby during pregnancy. Within the first 50 pages, this book lists out all of the absolutely terrifying things that can go wrong with a pregnancy in the first few months that sent me into a panic. This book is very informative, but if you are like me and worry every minute about your pregnancy, then this book is not for you!

Meh...

Felt like an overhyped book, and does not seem contemporaneous, it's stuck in the past (felt a bit like emphasizing more how a woman should be more accommodating to her work while pregnant, rather than the other way around). Found a better book for my wife and I to navigate pregnancy together.

The app and website are just as good

It’s not a bad book, but it’s everything that’s already either on the app or on their website so I found the book unnecessary.

Must read for everyone expecting a baby!

I regret not buying this book at the beginning of my pregnancy! I recently purchased it at 6 months. This is a great book & really addresses everything you can think of. It’s such a easy, enjoyable read too. I like the special sections for dads to be. My husband is enjoying the book too. I think that I will purchase this to give as a gift going forward for the people that I know expecting a baby. I’m looking forward to purchasing the “What to Expect in the first year” book

Meh

This has always been “the book” that women turn to when they get pregnant and I couldn’t wait until it was my turn...then when it was my turn and I started reading it, ugh, not impressed at all. There are waaaaay better options when preparing yourself for your little one.

The book is so thorough and precise to what a woman is going through during her pregnancy.

I love LOVE this book so much that I bought it again for my superintendent, his expecting wife and their first born. She's 4 months pregnant. I remember when I was that far along and how helpful and thorough the older edition book was for me. I know she will enjoy it and use it throughout her pregnancy journey. I took a quick glance at it and it looks to be just as thorough as the older edition if not better. Congratulations Kevin and Michelle on your first 👶 baby 🍼

Lifesaver for pregnancy

This book has definitely been a lifesaver as I am going through pregnancy. I feel confident when I need to look something up instead of going straight to Google! I also have the app which has been incredibly useful, as well! It's nice that it goes month by month and you are able to use the index to find anything you may have questions about. I've already ordered the next book about "What to Expect-- The First Year!" Can't wait to check it out.

It was a great book then and still is

I had the original version when I had my child 27 years ago. It was a great book then and still is. You DO NOT need another book if you're expecting or buying for an expecting mom. Bought this newer addition for a young and inexperienced friend. She is so grateful and has her boyfriend reading it as well.

Good for couples

My fiance loves this book. I wish it elaborated more on just how bad nausea, fatigue, and headaches can be. Twice I've been bedridden for 3 days in the last month and a half. There's so much info to know on nausea and what to eat (and avoid) which I found elsewhere. I also recommend this author write a book specifically for men and partners.

An essential tool !

I love this book and l am so grateful to pass on the updated version to my daughter. It is a gift to both of us! I was not happy with the ship time. I don’t quite understand why it took so long to ship. I have had things come from the west coast which is much farther in miles arrive faster. I am puzzled why the book which would be a standard in any bookstore was not in a closer distribution center. Anyway, this book is a great guide for a mother to be it covers many questions for a new mom . The format is easy to use provides easy, practical, no nonsense advice! Thank you, thank you, thank you!

Helpful and practical!

Very informative and helpful! I only wish it came with a few checklists/notes sections built in so I didn’t have so many sticky notes with questions for my OBGYN and could feel a little more organized. Like a nutrition guide listing the nutrients you need and how much of each on one page would be really helpful for daily food intake but also when shopping for and comparing prenatal vitamins. It has a chapter on miscarriage too, which helped with my recent miscarriage. I wish it included more on what to expect after a miscarriage and after a d&c because I felt totally unprepared for handling my recovery but also what questions to ask and what medications for pain, etc are standard. The app is pretty good too but I also use The Bump app.

A must have for every expecting mother

This is a gift for my daughter who is definitely expecting I haven’t received it quite yet however I thought I would go ahead and do a review as this is an amazing book are used it every 20 years ago when I was expecting makes a perfect gift for baby showersOr just for mommy to be definitely a must have advice don’t skip any!

Living on name alone

The name, combined with the movie, has made this hyped more than it should. I got bored very soon and would always forget to read it. My copy looks brand new. Even as a FTM, most of the info was pretty basic (you can find all for free online). The format of writing was annoying to me. I think if you pulled all the salient pieces out, you would have a very tiny book left.

There’s a reason it’s the “bible” of American pregnancies...

I see why they dub themselves the “bible” of American pregnancies - this book is loaded with information! From the common to the very specific, you will learn about it all! The first book I read was the Mayo Clinic pregnancy book and it was very high level. This book helped me truly deeper dive into all the different topics. Highly recommend.

Must read for every newly pregnant woman.

If you are pregnant for the first time, read this book. The comfort and confidence that you get from being informed about what is happening inside your body, along with the reassurance that things that you experience , while in growing stages of your pregnancy, are “normal”, make this book a “Must Read.” Short chapters- easy read. To the point. Great Q and A .

Not worth it! You have free info on the phone!

Someone sweared by this book. I was fool enough to get it( Totally not worth it. I was reading everything on my phone for free anyway on one of the pregnancy site’s. If I had any question about pregnancy I would search it on google. You can’t drag this book with you, but you can have your phone on you at all times. I would not recommend buying this book

Everything you need to know about growing a baby!

This is a practical, unbiased book of helpful advice for carrying a baby and postpartum. Strictly to the point. I would seriously be having some kind of pregnancy issue and would be able to find it in the book and be instantly relieved that it was just a normal part of pregnancy. If it wasn't, the book would reassure you to call your doctor so you can get a check up done in order to confirm everything was how it should be. I have hacked into a few pregnancy books and you just can't get the same reassurance as you can with this one.

Informative, a must read!

I’ve been reading this book through my entire pregnancy, and I am so glad I did. It’s informative, easy to understand, and answers pretty much every question I’ve had throughout pregnancy. It really helped to ease my mind during my first pregnancy. I have the book for the 1st year with baby, and I can’t wait to start reading!

Everything u need to know about pregnancy

One of the best book about pregnancy. Very detailed description. week-specific stats on mom and infant's development. Also included information about postpartum, pregnancy loss etc

Best pregnancy book ever! Every new mom should have it.

This is the best book and I loved getting video updates every week via app. I thought it was weird that the book and app give different weekly length and size ranges though because that was my favorite part.. knowing how big the baby is that week. Very informative and uplifting. Puts a lot of unnecessary fears to rest. I thought it would be out of touch and out of date because this book has been around so long, I was wrong. Completely new and fresh for today's world.

A Gift for my Daughter-in-Law

What To Expect When You're Expecting was my go-to book when I was pregnant. Now that my son and his wife are expecting their first child, this was the first book I sent them to follow the pregnancy journey. It was a comfort for me then and my wish is that the information and guidance eases their mind and answers any questions they might have. From my perspective, it's vital to be as informed as possible so you can ask your OB/GYN good questions concerning your personal circumstances. I highly recommend this book to all expectant parents.

Great book!

This has been updated and is new for pregnant women in our society. I found this book to be of great help throughout my pregnancy- truly the only one I needed.

Has always been the go to book for pregnant mothers

Daughter just found out she was 5 months pregnant. Had no clue she was pregnant. Obviously she freaked out and had no idea what happens during pregnancy. I had read this book 22 years ago so I knew to immediately send her this book to calm her down. She read the entire book the same day she received it. Needless to say, she calmed down after reading it. Now when we talk about certain things happening to her during her pregnancy she knows things that are happening are expected.

A classic!

I bought this book for our daughter-in-law, who is expecting our first grandchild in October, and I chose this one because it was my favorite when I was pregnant with our first child 22 years ago. Everything you need to know about every stage of your pregnancy can be found in this book. I would happily recommend it to every woman who is going through their first pregnancy - or their second or third! (It's a bestselling and beloved classic for a reason!)

Ok, not great

I know this is supposed to be the go to book, my doctor even recommended it, but I really don't like how it is layed out. The information doesn't flow in a useful way. It also goes back and forth between saying everyone gains weight differently and not to focus too much on it, and then telling you not to gain too much. Then it says all these exercises that are too strenuous, then spends 10 pages telling you to do exercises.

Still the Pregnancy Bible

Bought this for my daughter when she got pregnant. Provides good information that is accurate (and not fear-provoking like online rabbit-holes). It's been well used already. My book from 1991 was invaluable to me during my two pregnancies and the new issue is proving itself again through my daughter. I would say it's a must for all newly pregnant couples.

Focuses on the negative

I was excited for this book at first but once I started reading it I was disappointed. A lot of the book is just telling you different problems you might experience during your pregnancy. As someone who tends to be an overthinker and anxious it was not a good pick for me as it highlights all the bad side effects of pregnancy and everything else in the book seemed to be pretty common knowledge, or something you could find better information on by just doing a quick Google search.

Puts Expecting Parents at Ease.

Gifted to my son and daughter-in-law for for their first baby. I had an older edition (30 yrs ago) when my son was born and it is super helpful for first time moms. I highly recommend this book for new parents while they are expecting and "What to Expect the First Year" once the baby is born. IT HAS EVERYTHING

Must have during pregnancy and after

Wonderful wonderful wonderful book!!!! very detailed helps with every question or concern when you were expecting. Whatever the concerns are it goes into every detail with stories from parents personally going over there issues or concerns. Anything or anytime something is wrong with my pregnancy (both pregnancy) I referred to this book. Also purchase the remaining books. Four books total. Healthy eating to get pregnant, what to expect when you’re expecting, what to expect First year, what to expect Second year

Very informative book

This book is a classic must have. I bought it for my pregnant step daughter. I read the same book years ago when I was preggo. She loves it. It's very informational and gives good advice and tips to help throughout your pregnancy and delivery. No need lamaze class when u have this book lol.

Great Resource!

I hate reading because I get distracted so easily that I never get very far, but I loved using this book as a resource throughout my pregnancy! It’s the first book I’ve actually gone through in a long time! It’s nice because even if you want to just skim through on topics you’re interested in, that’s perfectly fine!

Felt like a lot of repetitive basic info

There’s definitely some good information in there, but i felt a lot of it was very basic. I’m a nurse and learned a lot in school and from people around me who are pregnant/have had kids, so honestly I’ve skipped over about 1/3 (maybe more) of the information. Some of it is also repetitive.. still a good book if it’s your first pregnancy

For expectant moms, dads and grandparents too!!

Have been buying this book for expectant moms forever. Very good information and advice. Answers even the simplest of questions that u may feel too stupid to ask. No question is a dumb question. But our hormones are messing with us enough. We dont need our self confidence hit anymore than it is already!

Best book for new mommies

I met the author as she came to an event for military spouses here in Okinawa. Not only is the author very friendly, but she is also very knowledgeable. I think this book is a MUST for pregnant women. I even have the second part of the book, which is about the first year. I highly recommend this book.

friend enjoys reading it

Bought this for a friend who is expecting. She said it was very informative and gave her information about a lot of pregnancy related things she had not yet thought about. Said it is very easy for lay person to understand the content. would recommend to others who are pregnant.

Love it!

I'm glad I bought this book. Especially, for the first months when you are eager to learn everything you can about your changing body - this book is a must have! A loooot of useful info about pregnancy, baby, possible complications, advice for dad's, delivery for postpartum period.

Greatest Pregnancy Book Ever!

I used this book with my first pregnancy and my second one as well, and I found it informative. It explains everything you may feel during your pregnancy, and it give you diagrams of what your little bundle of joy looks like from month to month. Too bad it doesn't give diagrams of the demon spawn they turn into as teenagers...With that being said, I purchased this particular book for my oldest daughter who is expecting our first grand child, and she loves it!

Good for first time mom!

First time mom here. I found the book very helpful especially in the beginning. Im 25 weeks now and I don't check the book as often. But in the beginning I found this book so helpful! I didn't want to tell family right away so this book was a helpful guide. I would recommend it for a first time mama!

The standard in pregnancy books

I had a relatively easy first pregnancy, and because this book covers such a wide range of symptoms and questions, I was surprised about how much I didn't utilize it for the first two trimesters. Information in the third trimester, especially related to birth and delivery, were the most useful. It's the standard go-to book for pregnancy and I would recommend it. Good reference material.

A must have for new moms

I love this book and often gift it. with the way social media is nowadays everybody just takes to social media it’s definitely nice to have something tangible that you can hold that has been around for many many years To rely on and give you sound, honest, Information

Very helpful information

Love this book, very informative, recommend to every woman who's expecting, especially first time moms. I called my obgyn for every little thing as a first time mom, this book answered a lot of questions so I wouldn't have to call her as often as I used to, i'm sure she appreciated that lol

Must have!

This book is the best and most popular for a reason! Covers everything first time mom's need to know or might be wondering. Easy to read, easy to use the index and takes you step by step through each month of tour pregnancy. Highly recommend that every newly pregnant woman and man read this!!!

The BEST book for first time moms

I used this book when I was pregnant with my first child and bought it for my daughter to get through her pregnancy. This books lays out information in a format that I really like and is easy to read/find. It doesn't read like a text book - it is organized

Huge book!!

This book is great but it has so much information and some of it doesn’t pertain to me ever!! I actually like app of this book because it got straight to the point. How many new or current mamas actually read this whole thing? But maybe it’s a reference book.

Wealth of knowledge contained in this book amazing

29 years ago I received this book from my husband During our first pregnancy. 29 years later I am proud to say that I have purchased the spoke again for my own daughter who is pregnant with her first baby. This book provides a wealth of information for any expectant parents

OBGYN recommended and informative!

Although this is the quintessential book I’ve always been told to get, some of the reviews detered me. I purchased two other baby books that we’re supposed to cover all you need to know but left me wanting more info. After confirming it with my OBGYN that this indeed was a recommended read I bought it and it’s the thorough read I was looking for!

I'm glad it is updated regularly and has become the "go ...

This book is a MUST for expecting moms - new or repeats. I devoured this book when I was pregnant with my first son in 1994 and have bought this for expectant moms I've known over the years. I'm glad it is updated regularly and has become the "go to" manual for pregnancy!

Wow - Blown away

First time purchase, I was not sure what to expect but it exceeded my expectations by 100. My husband calls it the pregnancy bible but it really does have a lot of information. Things you may not even need to read about (for example drug use) I definitely skipped through all that but the amount of amazing information is still beyond what I expected. It’s such a great book of Info for all new moms to be (and even has good info for dad’s) loved it.

Perfect for 1st time moms.

I had an older edition of this book when I had my child 27 yrs ago. Bought this copy for my son and his girlfriend who are now expecting there first child. I hope they find it as useful as I did with him. Great for the first time parents.

Heteronormative piece of bs

Hey guess what I don’t need? A suggestion for ‘dad’ (assuming I have a male partner) to step up in ‘helping out loading the dishwasher’. Or a suggestion to politely smile and joke if someone touches me without permission. The overall cutesy baby-talk throughout makes me want to gag, and I really don’t need anything increasing my nausea at the moment. I’m throwing this outdated garbage out, taking my un-pedicured nails elsewhere, and finding a book with facts written for adults that gives me information more detailed and helpful than a quick google search.

Good reference book!!

This book has been a staple for expecting mothers forever. I read this book over 30 years ago when I had my daughter. Has been revised to keep up with the times. My younger daughter trying to get pregnant and this book is a must have reference for your coffee table. Answers questions you have on all subjects of pregnancy. Would recommend!!

Every new mom deserves this book!

I just found out my daughter is pregnant and this is the first thing I ordered! I remember YEARS ago enjoying this book through my pregnancy. While today you can access so much information on the internet, this book helps to just keep it sweet and simple and allow a pregnant mother to learn about herself and her baby. GREAT book and it is no surprise that it is STILL a number one seller!

But she said she loved it because having the physical book was great to ...

I bought this for my daughter because I used it when I was pregnant with her 30 years ago! Little did I know that this generation now has the App for this product! But she said she loved it because having the physical book was great to sit and look through. Both her and hubby loved that aspect in conjunction with the App!

Get the Book!

Such a great book! My wife has loved reading through this! It has such great information that you wouldn’t not think to look up online or to even ask! Even gives tips and tricks! Would highly recommended for anyone who is pregnant!

Keeps me off the Googles

I actually bought this about a month before finding out we were pregnant. Obviously it's the #1 book (or bible) for pregnant women. It's up-to-date and it helps me stay off the internet when I have a question about something.

EXCELLENT book

if you're thinking about buying this, buy it. it's so helpful and easy to use. the index is great for searching for whatever is concerning you. i haven't had a question that isn't answered by this book. it's a great resource and much more reliable and trustworthy than anything you'll find online.

Great to have the hard copy!!!

I love the book but being my first baby I just read about the month and weeks. Because it can freak you out knowing too much! I liked having a hard copy and could look up anything without calling the doctor all the time! You can download the "Want to Expect" app for free. It's almost like the book!

Great info

Got for our daughter and her husband. They enjoy it. He more then her😂 she uses an app on her cell that says the same just shorter. Her husband is more of a reader so he reads this and a book we got for first time dads.

Keeps my OFF Google!

This has been a life-saver for my anxiety. It's an easy read and easy to navigate for specific topics. If the topic wasn't in the book it was because it was an obscure question I needed to ask my health-care provider. Using this instead of Google right away has helped me put things into perspective as I feel things changing.

This is the pregnancy bible!

Great advice for a first time, momma to be. I have a LOT of questions and am really in tune with my body. This book has the answer to every question I have and an explanation for every strange thing I feel. This book is amazing and helps put my anxiety at ease. I also love all of the tips throughout the book.

Great and informative book

A must have during pregnancy. My daughter is expecting her first child and it’s very informative. I used this book when I was first pregnant 25 years ago and it’s nice to be able to give it to my daughter.

Good, basic, tried and true pregnancy book.

I purchased this book at the beginning of my pregnancy. Every night I read a page or two out loud to my husband before we go to sleep. It’s pretty basic information and nothing you won’t be able to find online obviously, but still a good book to have on your nightstand.

Must have

This has been my go-to book for my pregnacy questions. I am surprised how thorough it is and how many topics it covers. Recommended for any first timer to quell anxiety and answer those many questions for every trimester.

Fantastic purchase

I used this with both my pregnancies, I bought it for my son and his girlfriend. STILL the best pregnancy resource available! Full of everything you’ll need to get you through the pregnancy!

Good for reference only, sometimes

If you have a question or concern, it may be good for the occasional reference. I honestly do not recommend to read cover to cover. I would recommend Adrian Kulp’s book “We’re Pregnant” for Dads. Simple and straightforward for both. Don’t bombard your beautiful pregnancy with more worries or make your morning sickness worse reading this. Also, you shouldn’t have to fact check a book. Some info is correct and some is pretentious.

First baby necessity.

Had this book when I had my kids. Looks like it has doubled in size... who knows, maybe there is more stuff to having a baby these days. Sent this book to my daughter-in-law and she uses it daily.

still a great book for first time mothers

sent this updated version of the book to my daughter who just announced that she is expecting. I had it given to me 29 years ago and am glad to see the updated version is relevant for today's mothers.

A must read

This book was so informative and helpful. It really helped to put me at ease and feel prepared. I loved that there were sections for spouses as well for most topics. This made is easier to communicate on the subjects and think of a different perspective.

Very helpful for pregnant mothers!

I used the original version 27 years ago and then bought this for my daughter. She loved it too. The author keeps the information updated. It is organized by month so very easy to look things up.

Classic book, but received the UK version

Love the book, filled with great info, but I received the UK version which was somewhat confusing for my American gift recipient! Lots of small differences (eg, prenatal vitamins become "antenatal vitamins") but also a lot of assumptions using the UK health system.

Great Book for the Price

Bought this when i found out I was pregnant unfortunately suffered a miscarriage but the information was great and will continue to read once we get pregnant again currently we are TTC.

Excellent pregnancy book

I purchased this due to a recommendation from a friend for my daughter. I mentioned my purchase to some friends and they all knew about the book. My daughter is enjoying it.

Best pregnancy guide EVER!

This is THE BEST BOOK for tracking pregnancy! It has so much information, and it's very easy to read! It helped me so much, and I highly recommend it to ALL pregnant women!

Useful

Iconic..but don't read it cover to cover like a normal book. Use it like reference material; look up a topic. That way you don't forget everything or get overwhelmed by it

Great information

I bought my sister this book once she found out she was expecting. This is her first baby so this book will be a great help through her pregnancy, giving her lots of information about what to expect :)

Get to reading!

This book has been super helpful so far. I’m 6 months along with my first and it really goes in depth into many different situations. I feel like I’m always able to find more info on my specific symptoms or conditions. A lot to read, so be sure to skim past things that aren’t applicable or it may take you 9 months to read it!

A “Must Have Book” For First Time Mothers

I bought this for my friend and she loves it as much as I loved it when I was a first time mother. It’s an amazing book for first time mothers. It helped me get through my pregnancy without being worried all the time because it answered many of my concerning questions.

So Great

What a comforting, well written, specific, informative book. I got it two days ago and I’m already 1/2 way through this monster or a book. Can’t recommend it enough.

For first time moms

I could have written this. Expect to change in all kind of fun ways. Hormones, friend or foe. How to gain 25 lbs legally without judgment. Peeing, it’s not just for bathrooms anymore. Food cravings, yes candy is a food group. And lastly, why sleep is way overrated. Your welcome readers.

Love it, it's a must for first time preggers

I love this book! Quick, easy, blunt but not scary, even humorous sometimes! The reference is fabulous so if you have a question, so easy to find the answer without reading an entire chapter or even page most of the time. It has answered all of my super random bazillion questions I've had so far.

Most important pregnancy book you can buy

Purchased for my sons first baby. This book is comprehensive and highly informative. I used it as my pregnancy bible 22 years ago and it is just as relevant today. Every expecting parent needs this book

Good

This was good to have on hand during pregnancy! It has useful info to reference and I felt like it helped answer some questions I had about pregnancy symptoms.

It reads like a text book

Personally, I don’t care for the way this book is written, or it’s layout format. It reads like a text book, to me, which makes it hard for me to retain informarion. I also really dislike how there is a bug boxed off area every other page that disrupts the paragraph you’re reading. Why can’t you just make what’s in the box another paragraph?? I suggest The Mayo Clinic Guide To A Healthy Pregnancy instead. Anything by Ina May gaskin is also fantastic.

Very helpful

I really liked this book. It helped me during my pregnancy. It has everything in it you could imagine. I would tell anyone that a first time mom to get this book.

It was my favorite book when I was pregnant and could wait to ...

Just purchased this for my niece. It was my favorite book when I was pregnant and could wait to share it with the next generation. She has already read it cover to cover and loves it. She is looking forward to rereading it through her pregnancy. Full and facts and timely information.

Worth it! Very informational!

I read this book for all four of my pregnancies. This book is so full of helpful information. Now I’m going to be a grandma for the first time and I ordered it for my daughter as well and she loves it. It’s updated with new info too. Thank you!

Very detailed easy to read

This book is good, but there is. Lot you can skip because is does not apply to everyone. But really helpful on what to eat and the explanation of what is changing and developing every month.

Helps to put your mind at ease during your pregnancy!

My sister bought me this book 24 years ago when I was pregnant and now I have bought this for my daughter and she loves it! This book has everything in it and answers so many questions regarding foods you should or should not eat, exercise, babys growth, your inner feelings, answers about your own body, etc. It helped put my mi d ease to know that a lot of the things being experienced were normal and addressed in the book

Directed for Mothers in the UK

The book I received is directed to mothers in the UK. I did not know that upon purchasing. Information is generally the same, but uses different terminology in some cases and provides resource information that is not applicable in the U.S.

Must read

This book has been so helpful in answering questions I didn’t even know I should know. If you are ttc, first time, or expecting I recommend this as a must read.

Good buy

I enjoyed reading this while pregnant with first child, excited to be on this journey again! Very informative, I like the week by week and off topics about pregnancy.

If you are pregnant buy it!

Bought this book for my pregnant daughter because I had it during my pregnancy with her. The book is full of so much useful information I recommend every pregnant woman gets this book.

Disappointed in it

Everyone raves about this book so I was really excited to start reading it when I found out I was pregnant thinking it would be so useful. It was not. Reading through it it’s info I can easily find online and there’s better books out there. Wish I didn’t waste my money on this book.

Love this book

Great gift for a first time mom, I sent this to my best friend. I have one and have kept it kind of as a keepsake to my pregnancy days. Every first time mom should have one.

Excellent!!

This is everything I needed and wanted for Mommy and Daddy. It has small snippets for Daddy also so that he doesn't feel like it's all about the vagina. But very useful for dad also so he really understands the small and big things mommy goes through.

British Version

The book arrived promptly and in perfect condition. Maybe I didn't read the fine print on this listing but I received a British/European version. The spellings and vernacular are slightly different and when they talk about weight it is done in "stones" instead of pounds. I don't think this will be a big problem, but I just wasn't expecting it.

Helpful and informative

I had this book with all three of my girls. I bought it for a good friend who is expecting her first :) She said it’s been a comforting and calming book :) it helps with all her concerns when the doc is unavailable

Good read, helpful

As someone that doesnt have kids and is trying for one this is really informative. Plenty of things you dont hear about in the book. A def. Must read for 1st timers trying to for baby #1.

Its a good book, and does as promised

Its a good book, and does as promised. On the whole, we only go to it when we need to get more in-depth information about some of the questions we have. Other than that, there a lot of free apps at this point that will accomplish the "week to week" updates about what is going on in moms body

A Must have

This is such a great dog. I have this book in 1992, purchase this book from my daughter in 2010 and again purchased it for a friend and 2019. This book has so much information and guides you through your pregnancy. I couldn't see anybody not happy in this book. It is a must have

Still can’t get into it

While this book shares relevant information, the language used is really off-putting to me. I feel like the corny jokes and phrasing they use is kind of patronizing. I’m super excited to be a mom, but this book has been annoying me whenever I try to get back into it. I know a lot of people swear by it, but I just can’t get into it.

Not recommended

Not a good book, not pretty informative. Gave me lots of anxiety honestly. Not recommended. Everything said on the book can be found online

Not the best book

There is some useful information in this book, but I found that there is a lot more frivolous information than I cared for. I was annoyed with chapters that focused on things like, how to look slimmer in your clothes.. huh? Also, stretches and exercises that didn’t seem very helpful or proper. Better book that I received from my doctor was the Mayo Clinic: Guide to a Heathy Pregnancy.

Trusted Source of Information

This was a gift for a young lady who recently found out she was pregnant and had many questions. I, myself, used a much older revision of this book years ago when I was pregnant and remember what a help it was to me then.

A new mom must have!

Bought it for my best friend. I had it during my pregnancy and it was always a great tool to have available to go to. Every expecting mom should have her first copy.

Best pregnancy book out there

This is the Bible of all pregnancy books!! I’m one of those crazy first-time moms that can’t learn enough and so naturally I bought a bunch of pregnancy and baby books... but this one is the BEST by far! Must have for new moms. I live by this book, and it’s been updated so it applies to this day and age. Well written and easy to read.

Overwhelming

This book was almost too informational. I quickly became overwhelmed with the extensive information and shortly after gave up reading it because it was overly detailed to be a practical read. If that is your style it may be the book for you but if you like short and sweet stay away from this book.

Waste of money

You can google all of this extremely general information. There are better books out there for first time mothers.

miss esential information

only talks a short passage about meconium with a no profound knowledge, dont prepare you for the manage when it happens after reading the whole book. And this book rest the importance of the severity of meconium aspiration syndrome that could cause severe secueles to the baby. Also general complications are at the end of the book instead of putting in the week that correspond.

Great for those about to join the mommy club!

I had this book years ago. Bought the up to dat version for my pregnant daughter in law. Very happy with purchase. Good price too!

CONTENT issues!!!

NOT at all what I was expecting. Not only was cover totally different, but content is all in METRIC. Speaks in terms of kg vs lbs, for example. Disappointing.

Strongly recommend this book!

Recommend this book to all pregnant moms. It’s very useful to me. It solves almost all my puzzles and nervous questions. Let me know each month what I need to do without any worries.

A must have for first time expecting parents!

Purchased as a gift for a first time mother. This book is a must have, trust me. We had it and used it 25 years ago ourselves.

New mom yes

Enjoying the extra knowledge for a first time mom. Found no problems with printing or binding. Definitely finding the info to be helpful enough

Love this book!

We bought this book years ago when we were expecting our first child. Now I bought this most recent edition to give our child who is now pregnant with her own baby.

Daughter Loves It

Bought this for my daughter & she loves it. Said it has a lot more info in it than some of the apps out there. Very pleased.

Good resource.

Very informative.

She is actually reading it!

Bought this book for my 24 year-old daughter who is TTC under care of her OBGYN. She learned she didn’t have a right ovary, and a cyst on her left and became concerned because of her want to start a family. My daughter is not a reader, I have asked her to read numerous books over the years and hasn’t even cracked the cover.... until this book. The day it arrived I couldn’t get it out of her hands fast enough to even look at it first before she ran off with it, nose deep in the first chapter.

It's the best for a reason

This book is as awesome as everyone says it is. I feel informed, but not overwhelmed. I think sometimes it's difficult to keep in perspective what you need and what you don't when you're expecting. You don't need 10 different pregnancy books, you just need one. This one. Get it. Read it. Be knowledgeable and relaxed, knowing you know what you NEED to know.

Nostalgic

I read this when I was pregnant and I just sent this to my daughter who is expecting. It's just the book you have to read when you're pregnant.

I have all of the WTE books. Very informative ...

I have all of the WTE books. Very informative but I skip the Q and A in each chapter- they seem to be common sense things that most people should already know.

Good reference

Good reference to go through when you're pregnant and answer all of those questions about what you are expecting. I thought I had everything down as my first two pregnancies were pretty similar. I knew the symptoms and what to expect. This third one is completely different so it's been nice to go through this, make sure what I'm experiencing is normal and see where the baby is at during each week.

Great Information along with Fearmongering

Some great pieces of information throughout the book, but it has a very negative outlook on pregnancy. Every page is riddled with things that could go wrong, to the point that one may be led to believe all pregnancies come with a host of issues. I wouldn’t recommend it unless one is willing to do their own additional research and weigh the true risks discussed inside.

Perfect pregnancy book.

Perfect pregnancy book for any new first time mom's to be. Full of so much useful information. And just general knowledge.

too wordy

the useful content of this book could be boils down to 20 pages if you have a doctor and deliver in hospital. over all its a waste of time to read the thing if you have a doctor

Necessity for anyone with a baby on board!

Great book with a ton of pertinent information! Great for a first time mother or as a baby shower gift. This is a necessity for anyone that’s pregnant!

Perfect pregnancy book

Very very happy with this purchase. Best pregnancy book on the market if you ask me. Lots of pages and tons of information. Great pregnancy book.

Bought this for my wife. So helpful to have ...

Bought this for my wife. So helpful to have a definitive source around to answer all her questions about what she cannot eat, where she cannot go, and so forth, instead of the thousands of mommy-blogs with competing information (that's often just anecdotal). Well worth it for the peace of mind alone. But it's also full of interesting information about how the baby is developing.

Best book when expecting

Gifted to my sis in law. I loved the version I had, I know she was excited to read alll about the things to anticipate

Love it

Was a great mental guide that helped the transition into mommy to be mode after I found out we were expecting. Majority of info was repetitive to what I'd received from pinterest/Google and all moms I've talked to recommend the "what to expect year 1" is much more handy!

Buy the paperback, Kindle version has issues

A lot of good information. Was recommended by several moms I know. But I never actually finished the book. The Kindle version kept skipping to different parts of each chapter, cutting out pages of reading. My MIL ended up gifting me the paperback version.

Very helpful

This book helped me quite a bit when I was pregnant with my first child. If I could not find an answer on the internet quickly, I could look in this book and the answer was usually there. It helped ease a lot of fears by acknowledging different concerns and letting me know they were normal.

Understanding Pregnancy Changes

Gives the mother-to-be the guidance she needs to know what to expect during the pregnancy. Good for dad's too.

Still a good bet

Given as a gift to new expectant mom, very readable, has been updated since the original which was very helpful 30 years ago.

Useful when you’ve got a question or worry

I consulted this book often during my pregnancy. It’s full of useful information and details, though now that I’ve gone through it and have my baby...it can terrify you unnecessarily.

Great book for 1st time pregnancies!!

Great book for my daughter who is 24 and having her first baby. I used this book when I had my daughter so I had to buy it for her!!

Definitely Recommend!

As a first time Mom, this book helped me a lot!! Especially when I was freaking out for every little thing. It explains symptoms you might get and what to worry about and what not to worry about. I got it as a first time mommy and now I am buying for my sister in law!

Timeless Gift

This book is a great for new mothers and fathers. It provides timeless advice and makes for a great gift.

How baby grows and develops

As a first time mom, I enjoyed reading all the information about growing baby and what to expect. As well as all the extra information provided about caring for yourself and tips for dad!

Must have for FTMs!

I love this book so much! I didn't sit there and read it religiously but instead, I dip into it whenever I have a new symptom or whenever I hit a new mile stone (trimester, month, week, etc)!

Not that great for me.

Somehow this book is very long and discouraging me to read... I'm sure some people fine it interesting but I'd prefer simple and easy to read/get to the point types of books...

Excellent primer

Bought for a friend

If you’re new to babies, buy this!

I can’t figure out if it’s because I worked on labor and delivery for 4 years, but I feel like most stuff in this book I already knew. It would definitely be helpful for someone who is new to all of it though!

PERFECT

This book is very good. Glad I purchased. It helps me understand things more clear instead of google. I'm a first time mom and wasn't sure of all the myths and superstitions. Also, if you're tight on money the "What to expect" app is the same thing just shorter and does daily updates!

Great book for first time pregnancy.

Pregnancy is a very unsure time for many first time parents and this book has answered a lot of questions for my wife and I.

Seller shipped UK version of book!

I ordered this book as it is clearly shown as the US version in the description and sample. I’m returning as a lot of the material is not applicable to a mom in the US. Will purchase the correct one from another seller.

UK version??

I ordered this book for my daughter because I read it when I was pregnant 22 years ago. Tonight I realized I received the UK version! Is there a difference? I want to rate the book 5 stars because I know how great it is. But she is a new mom (mum according to this book) and I want her to know all options available regarding healthcare.

A classic

This is an all-time classic for any lady expecting. Sometimes you need a hard copy of advice. Much better than the overwhelming sea of the internet.

Amazing book

I love this book sooooo much. It is so helpful and easy to understand. The app is incredible too!

.

A lot of information but a bit old-fashioned

Amazing

Amazing Book. Easy to read and get information for pregnancy. A must have for new mothers to be

Answers to almost every question while pregnant!

I had this book when i was pregnant with my daughter 23 years ago. I bought it for her for her pregnancy. It was really informative and my go-to when i had questions. I highly recommend this book for new moms.
