Every soldier has a war story.
Steven Elliott’s opens with the death of American hero Pat Tillman by “friendly fire” in Afghanistan―when Army Ranger Elliott pulled the trigger, believing he and his fellow soldiers were firing on the enemy.

Tormented by remorse and PTSD in the aftermath of Tillman’s death, Elliott descended into the depths of guilt, alcoholism, and depression; lost his marriage and his faith; and struggled to stay alive. The war that began on foreign soil had followed him home.

A must-read for veterans and their loved ones, War Story is an explosive look at the chaos of war―and the battle for life in its aftermath. It confronts some of life’s biggest questions: Why do we choose to fight for a country or a cause? What happens when the cost of that fight overwhelms and destroys? Can we forgive and be forgiven? How do we find hope? At its core, War Story is a dramatic personal encounter with war and faith, love and tragedy, and ultimate renewal.

All of the author’s proceeds from the writing of this book will be donated to organizations serving the mental health needs of the active duty and veteran community.

Profound story of redemption

My husband and I know the Elliotts locally, so hearing his story in person initially was both heartbreaking but redemptive. When I found out he had written a book about his involvement in Afghanistan and Tillman's death, it was definitely a story that deserved a wider audience. This is a book to bring healing to others with trauma, to bring hope to hurting souls, and emotionally or physically wounded warriors. Even as a middle-aged woman who has no personal connection to the military life, I found the book very engaging and gripping. I highly recommend it to anyone who is or has served in the military or anyone who has an interest in a deeply personal account of trauma and healing. Proceeds go to help soldiers with PTSD, which is also an excellent resource for all our many returning troops.

A story very much worth reading.

As a veteran I found Steve’s story compelling. It touched parts of my mind and life’s experiences. If you have served or are close to someone who has then do yourself a favor. It is a page flipper, yet profound. God Bless, Steve.

A Must Read Book

I knew parts of Stevens story, but did not know all of the details of it that were laid out in the book Steven, you did such an amazing job writing/sharing your story. You were eloquent, but true to the environment you were a part of and didn't mince words when a point needed to be made. You were open and very vulnerable, but in doing so were able to shed light on the very real topic of PTSD, and mental illness. Above all you were able to let people know they are not alone, and that there is help, hope, and healing to be had. Thank you for sharing your story with the world. Been blessed to get to know you and Brook.

Worth reading!

Well written. A story that needs to be heard. I rarely finish nonfiction but this book I couldn’t put down. Highly recommend!
