This eighth epic fantasy in Auryn Hadley’s fan favorite, the Rise of the Iliri sci-fi / fantasy series, is just as much steamy erotic romance as it is espionage-tinged action-adventure thriller.
Being a woman while leading the army has drawbacks. It's even worse for a Kaisae. To avoid hormonal confusion and keep the Black Blades from instinctively tearing their male allies apart, Anglia is at a standstill - and Sal hates it.
The last thing the enemy needs is another advantage, and with Merriton on the horizon, this battle is very personal. Someone has been helping the enemy. The trick will be figuring out who, stopping them, and securing the CFC's largest economic powerhouse without destroying the entire country. The problem? Ayati's no longer playing fair. The rules have changed, but will Sal figure it out in time?
Like all the books in the Rise of the Iliri series, this is a complete epic science-fantasy novel, without a cliffhanger. The female lead has multiple consensual romantic relationships as well as fulfilling friendships that matter to the storyline. Because the illiri have insatiable and exotic sexual instincts, the smoking hot sex may make it unsuitable for humans under 18.

I never want to leave these pages.
Woohoo! It's FINALLY here and I have ripped through this bad boy with the passion of a woman who is coming off of a diet and is face down in a cake. I have never been so nervously excited to dive back into a series and as we all know, Auryn is a master story weaver with many tricks up her sleeve. First... Sal is still so badass. 8 books later and she is still so so SO amazing and this time around, her brothers/sisters-in-arms are drawn into a risky and intricate plan that requires an insane amount of trust and could make or break our beloved Kaisae. Did I mention the mate-race picks up speed? And I am firmly planted in the #TeamKolt camp and he is just so... so... ::swoon:: The others are just as delectable as ever as Auryn turns up the heat. Old faces and memories complicate things as personal battles are waged alongside the war against the Terrans, but will Sal make it? I bit my nails to the quick as I flipped the pages and am currently suffering from lack of sleep, book hangover, and the intense need to start the ROTI journey all over again because that's just what these books make you do.

Look. I haven’t given a book 5 stars in months. I’m not a person who says that every single book is the best book that I’ve ever read. If I five star a book, it’s because it’s amaze balls. Auryn does NOT disappoint in this book. As always, running thoughts: OMG IM SO READY. Man I’m so happy right now. I can’t stop smiling. But I swear, Blaec needs to stay *dead*. In all ways. Forever. I love that Jase won’t leave the room. This is why I like him the most. RAZOR?! RAZOR?! I worry about why Jase didn’t want to be a part of it. (Oh. That makes total sense but also OMG. One of them better not die.) Nothing has ever been as hot as this is right now. Um. It better not be a premonition. *goes back to check mate schedule. Checks with honeybruhs* No no no no. No. I don’t like Dark Heart at all. Also, Hax left his commanding officer to go with Sal in a fight and that makes me like him even less. He shouldn’t have been at her left. He gives me the heebie jeebies. #teamthroatpunchhax ohmygodohmygodohmygod Okay. I will forgive Blaec for his past transgressions. There are some authors who can’t handle this many perspectives when writing. Auryn has so many balls up in the air and never drops any of them. “Explain to me again how you lost my daughter.” Favorite. Line. Ever. Ran is the best human alive. Ever. Change my mind. Have I mentioned how much I love Ran. Thank God that it wasn’t Hax.
Another EPIC Read
Words are hard to come by when you have read a book that was so good, and you know for a fact that no matter what you say, you aren’t going to do the book justice. Upheaval by Auryn Hadley was beyond amazing. The suspense, the action, the romance, so perfect. I can never get enough of this fantastic world that this author has created. Sal and all of my other favorite characters are back and better. Twists and turns everywhere. New characters introduced, and new love interests brought to light. Every word… pure perfection. I devoured this book within hours of getting it, and once it was all over, I needed the next one. I’m hooked, addicted, so in love with this world, the characters, and the series as a whole. I can never get enough. There is more to come from this incredible series, but until then, I’ll be rereading all of the books all over again. Thanks auryn for another remarkable book in this epic series.
Another fantastic exploration of love and prejudice
I love the Rise of the Iliri series. In fact, it's probably one of my favorite series ever. Upheaval is book 8 in Auryn Hadley's science fantasy series, and she keeps on delivering. I'll admit, the covers turned me off this series for a long time. Even after I read the first book in her series Gamer Girls, I was leery. But I finally began reading this series and now I can't get enough (though the covers still are off-putting...sorry Auryn). Auryn has this insane ability to really make the characters real...and she doesn't pull punches. You don't know if your favorite character will live to the end. You don't know if the character you hate will become the one you love. Nothing is sacred...except the story. The hardest thing, I think, when reading a long series is maintaining the momentum and depth that you get in the first few books. Too often, authors seem to stop trying once they get through the first few books. This is NOT the case with RotI. Upheaval is just as compelling and complete as Bloodlust was. I seriously stayed up all night to read it in one go. The series is about a war, on the surface. But it's really about hate and prejudice. It's about love (of yourself and others). It's about power. The evolution of power and status throughout the series is ever-changing. Upheaval is that, but more. There are more changes and some quite unexpected turns of events in this book. At the same time, there are things that have been brewing since before the first book that are finally coming to fruition. I once again found myself at the end and flipping pages to see if there was more. If you don't like cliffhangers, wait till the series is complete. Hadley has zero issues with leaving her readers hanging. Hadley's world is fraught with man-made issues. Slavery, racism, and war fill the pages, but over all that is the idea of hope. The idea that the life we are born to is not the life we are stuck with. Characters in the book often describe the scent of Sal as "hope." And as we get further and further into the story, this becomes more and more tangible. Even when the army suffers defeat, even when Sal feels hopeless, Hadley gives the reader hope that it will all work out. That the pattern has a purpose. At the same time, you know she could write something that will truly destroy you. So while devouring the book, I was always braced for something terribly tragic to happen. The Rise of the Iliri is a beautiful melding of science and fantasy. Upheaval ups the ante, leaving the reader balancing on a ledge wondering if maybe, just maybe, there will not be a happy ending.
The Best One Yet
I struggle to decide whether I love Book 4 or this book more. I do believe this one. We are thrown a LOT of bones in this book. Basically, everything you wanted to happen as the reader... starts happening. This is also the steamiest book of the series! It’s almost like the author said, “Oh? You guys don’t think there is enough boom boom time in my books? Well then... hold my beer!” Be prepared to want some private time the first 25% of the book. Basically, this book is the tipping point for the rest of the war. It seems calm, because we get a break to invest in the characters intimately, but don’t be deceived. At the end, we get the same amount of battle action we know and love. I can’t wait for the next book and I’m looking forward to see how Sal’s journey ends!
I would give this book more stars if I could...
I cheered and groaned my way through this book. Why? Auryn is notorious for leaving little Easter eggs in each book that suddenly take on huge meanings later in the series. I cheered because I got something right and groaned when I had to say, again, why didn’t I see that coming? She laid it all out for us... 🤦♀️ What I am trying to say is that I love this series and the eighth installment was no exception. Well written, excellent pacing, steamy scenes, action, suspense, you name it, this book had it. Auryn is the master at making you feel exactly as she wants you to feel and you get swept up into Sal’s world each time you enter it. This is my favorite series and Upheaval may well become my favorite in the series. My only complaint: it ended and I had to return to the real world. And when a book is over 500 pages long and you still think it’s too short? Yeah, Auryn is a genius. If you are hesitating at all to read this series, just stop and one-click all the books. You will kick yourself later for the hesitation. I know I did.
I hate the phrase “reverse harem”
This book is so much more. I often read a review that says how an author did great “world-building.” Butin this series, the reader is actually along for the “world building.” And it changes book-to-book, before our eyes. It’s not a reverse harem book; it’s a book about a developing culture (or re-developing). It’s a book about fighting for what you believe and feel. I don’t know if this series was written with an deeper meaning. What I do know is that it is engrossing, entertain8ng, makes you feel the characters and want their success. I am such a fan! I didn’t find this series until the fourt book was out. When I started the first one, I bought and read all that was available, and now watch, with great attention, for the next release. Read them yourselves and escape into the building of a pretty wonderful world!
This series just keeps getting better!
I'm so incredibly invested not just in this series but the characters are what pulled me in hook line and all. These books are incredible and they have such depth and have everything you could ever hope for. The have it all and the author does it all flawlessly. The plot, the story, the action is all top notch and every book is packed full but the characters for me are the heart and soul of this series. Every book I've read in this series I'm always dreading that last page. I'm never ready for the book to be over, never ready to impatiently wait for the next book to release, but I'm always excited to start the next part of the journey. This series is such a winner and if you've read any of them then I don't need to convince you to read the next one, however if you haven't tried one then don't wait pick up book one and begin the journey now. You can read this using kindle unlimited so no excuses to not start now. I'll be honest I started this series with KU but our was so good that I quickly switched to purchasing until I was one clicking the pre-order which is what I did here. I've read three other series from this author and fell in love with each of them even though they were all so very different and different genres but the quality of the writing and the way she reels you in are all the same. I urge you to check them out you won't be disappointed. I'm sure after giving them a try you'll be following her on Amazon like I am.
I finally finished it!!!
I got this book the day it released and started it right away. It's gripping, emotionally charged, and at times I could feel my heart stuttering in fear. As a result I got to about the 66% Mark and had to stop for fear of the unknown. Fans of Auryn will completely understand where I'm coming from. Every word holds power. I started my reread of ROTI Friday and it's now 1:20am on Sunday and I just finished Upheaval. I new the story line would get more intense as the series grew but I was not prepared for this. SPOILERS--- First Sal and Shade go into estrus. Then Shade ops to have Arctic and Ghost come to her and they completed their mating. Arctic was a d!ck to Sal. Sal gets sexy times with all three of her Mates. Makes Kolt her cessivi and then ties him to Zep. And on and on. Sh!t gets real. Every pages has things happening. In a lot of books you get downtime chapter where nothing major happens. Not so with anything written by Auryn Hadley! This girl is a heavyweight! She delivers one two punches, body jabs and then lands a knockout punch! It's so good with surprises and revelations that have me speculating about upcoming events. I am happy, exhausted, and awaiting the next book!!!!
Even more suspense than past books
Oh. My. Gosh. Even more tension and suspense than every book before this. And just as much fun and romance. How? How is it possible to get that perfect blend? I truly admire Auryn Hadley for her work. And the world keeps building. More understanding of ayati, more understanding of how the iliri came to be, and more action and "OMGOMGOMGOMG" moments than any other book in the series thus far. It moves quickly from "Hey this is fun and cute..." to "WHAT IS HAPPENING?!? PLEASE DON'T DIE!!!", in just a few pages. I'd like to think that main characters are safe in books I like, but after Blaec, who I *thought* was a main character, I just don't trust that anymore. Plus, I've read the Divergent series, so clearly that's not a rule for everyone. BUT I'm glad that so far, Auryn has kept all the characters I actually like (because I didn't really care for Blaec and didn't even understand what Sal saw in him to begin with). But there are still 3 more books to the series and things are only going to get more intense from here on out. And I gotta say... Pretty happy about Razor's prophecy. Didn't see it coming (had suspicions the first time he was told, but didn't see its fruition coming so quickly), but really happy with it. Also happy about Rayna's love life. And Zep's surprising skill. And relieved that Hax is out of the running. If iliri dudebros were a thing, Hax would be it. I'm eager to read the rest, even though I'm sure I'll want to stay in their world a bit longer after it's done.
I never want to leave these pages.

Great story with wonderful world building
I read books 1-8 in quick succession so am giving a review on the series, to date. The world building is excellent. Humans colonize a distant world, low on metals and with indigenous life. Thousands of years later, the resulting society is one of basically medieval tech, but with ceramics and resin replacing metals. Very clever extrapolation and made more interesting with the integration of the indigenous life. The series is both a Sci-Fi/Paranormal-esque epic adventure and a romance. The heat level of the romance rises throughout the series, not hitting 'erotic' levels until about Book 7 and starting relatively low, though all well written at the heat levels they're at. I mention this because this switch/transition may surprise some readers. At times, the balance between the epic adventure and the romance is off a bit, throwing off the pacing of the overall story, but not so much as to want you to stop reading - it remains engaging throughout. The plot, and plot twists, of the epic adventure are well done, creating a well-crafted story that could stand alone, even without the romance. There are some quibbles around how the military is organized, specifically around unit sizes and organization, but unless you have a background in the area or read a lot of military fantasy/historicals you probably won't notice. The fight scenes are well done, even if all in the contexts of small skirmishes. Overall, I'm thoroughly enjoying this series. It's based in a wonderfully crafted world and includes some amazing elements. It's only some nits about how these elements are put together that keeps this from getting 5 stars.
Cliffhanger!!! NOT an 8 book series.
I purchased the whole (I thought) series as I hate cliffhangers and hate waiting months for the next book to come out. After reading through, I realised that there are still more books to come. This frustrates me no end! Having said that, this is a fantastic series. I skipped most of the first 9.5 chapters of book 8, as it was just full of explicit sex and no real story. Yes, you read right, 9.5 chapters of sex. Not really what I am looking for in a science fiction series, but it is a long book, so this can be overlooked. Once past that however, the story line is fascinating. Full of action and adventure, it was difficult to put the book down. With Sal growing in skill and mental fortitude, she makes a breakthrough discovery in her own life, giving her and those around her new hope that she will be the one Kaisae that will be there to help them pick up the pieces and put them together once the war is over. New additions to her harem help stabilize and empower her. We will see next book(s) what part they will play in the big picture.
You won’t want to put this down!
So I have read nothing but the Rise Of The Iliri saga for a little while now. I am completely engrossed in the story and am on pins and needles for book 9 to come out! I love how we get to see inside all of the characters, their thoughts, emotions and actions. Don’t get me wrong, I am all about Sal and what she’s going to do next, but I really like seeing where everyone else is coming from as well... it takes the story to the next level and just invests my interest all the more. I love a story that makes me laugh out loud, quietly cry, fidget in worry and fan myself with heat. This series has it all and more! The overall theme strikes a chord that has sounded throughout history... “Home is where our differences make us the same... They make us stronger.”
Holy cow this book had me by the gut and the heart strings!
I had to start and stop this book over the course of two days because for one I didn’t want it to be over, and two, it stressed me the heck out! So intense! I felt all the emotions of these beloved characters like they were my own. I was sweating it out for half the book; and this book did not go in the direction I thought it would. The last two books followed a similar blueprint, and while enjoyable I was afraid I was going to get the same in book 8; but the way this author took things shocked the heck out of me and made me so glad to be reading such a thought out book. When an author can produce a book that’s fun to read but thought provoking at the same time, then it’s a homerun for me!!
Fear is the mind killer
Sal is facing her hardest push yet. Slave to soldier to sovereign. Leading 3 species combined into a nation at war. She's been given control of the armies of 2 nations and told to shove suspected Terran forces out of a very powerful town. The only problem? It's Merriton. Where she was sold. Where she was a slave. Where her former master still resides. Where she would rather let it all burn than deal with humans who believe owning people isn't just ok, but absolutely the way things should be. But, in order to get to the emperor she has to back him into his corner. That means shoving him out of the CFC. That also means facing her past. Worse, she has to allow others to do the infiltration for her. Delegation is not something this Kaisae does well. Spoilers ahead. Oh, all holy hell breaks loose. Merriton is a hotbed of intrigue right now. Merchants know only 1 loyalty, and it's to money- not a country. Especially a country that just made their slaves a recognized species, and the ability to leave. Sal is in for a lot of surprises this book. Some more prophecies come to light. She learns a bit about what ayati wants her to do. She meets someone from her past. She sees someone else with new eyes. So. Much. Happens. And all in the space of a week. And Sal's countdown is still ticking. The more powerful she becomes, the more she wins, the closer her war is to being over. And a Kaisae never sees the end of her war.
Fitting Title
The title of this book is seriously fitting. The battle for control of Merriton seriously falls apart. It's Anglia's first loss. Sal manages to win in another way, though. It takes her mates and her friends and allies to make her see that, so when she could have fallen apart, she doesn't. Sal is more determined than ever and finally getting it through her stubborn head that everything isn't on her. I approve. Several people make some bad decisions in this book, which is what causes so many issues and honestly, Terric simply outplayed them this time. It works out and it looks like Merriton won't be the total win that Terric wanted, either. Relationship wise, more folks are hooking up. There were some beautiful moments between Shade, Artic and Ghost. I hope Shade can overcome this newest loss, though it will be hard. Artic and Ghost will definitely give her all the love she needs. Tanya gets herself a second mate as well. Honestly, that one blindsided me, but Dom is into it and it makes me happy for that particular Blade. I'm wondering if Kesh will make his way in there as well considering I'm fairly sure that he still has feelings for Rayna. Pig and Keeya finally get it together as well. That's another prophecy of Blaec's that has now come true. And Razor makes me so happy in this book. I've wanted him to step up to Sal ever since she and Jase teamed up with him way back in the beginning. I love that guy. There were some other awesome developments as well. When things start coming down around their ears, Jase really takes charge. Zep seems to have found an illiri skill. Kolt is still having weird dreams and I have to wonder if that guy has managed to turn himself into a ghost. I enjoyed getting to see Tyr and Geo teamed up and appreciated getting a bit of POV from Vanja of all people. Ran really stood up for Sal at the end and I love what happened because of it. I really liked the epilogue as well. Looks like Arrawhen is coming along.
My heart, my heart...
I actually cleared the day of the release of this book so that I could spend it reading, savoring this next Iliri story. I KNEW it would be an otherworldly read. I was braced for the BEST and WORST because that is just how Auryn writes - and it was a tough read! I had to stop to catch my breath, to ease the tightness in my chest. I was praying that we wouldn't lose any of the characters that we have come to love (which has happened in this series). I like to peek ahead in books but made myself read these pages in order. I considered opening a bottle of scotch to help me get through the tension. I shed no tears while reading this one like I have (and still do) many times throughout this series but I am still trying to recover from the emotional strain. I will go back and reread this story this afternoon. I might just start with book 6 or 7 and just roll through them all. I practically have the entire series memorized. I am an old retired lady who has been reading voraciously since second grade where I read every book in our school library but I have NEVER reread any author's books as many times as I have read this series by Auryn. This is the top series EVER for me. I love the way Sal's men are growing and gaining talents (sorry, no spoilers but watch for this!), I was totally taken by surprise by number 4, I searched the glossary and see a word for fifth mate, so I am still hoping hard for my favorite (T-man) to win that spot, I loved seeing Ran in action - he is such a sweetheart, we finally get a glimpse of Arhhawen (Las is adorable) and what about Geo?!! How ever am I going to wait for the next book??? And why stop at only 10? I love you Auryn! Thank you ever so much for sharing this story with me! God Bless!
Amazing book
Another great addition to the Rise of Iliri series. Sal is back and is fantastic. This is one of my favorite series and look forward to each book. I couldn’t put the book down it is so good. Each book in the series gets better and better. The world Sal lives in is so well written and so vast it’s excited to be drawn in again and again. I don’t know how many times I reread all the books in the series and find something new each time. This book is no exception. There is lots of action but also time for the characters to relax and have some sexy times!! There is some closure but leaves enough questions that I look forward to the next book.
A book that takes no prisoners
Twists and turns. Book 8 of Rise of the Iliri thwapped me over the head and jumbled up every expectation I had only to create something even better. I shouldn't be surprised. Auryn Hadley's masterful storytelling takes her readers on a wild ride that no one can predict, no matter how many times you've read the books before it to try to suss out what might happen next. Even deeper character development. Plot advancement. And Hope. Things that UPHEAVAL brings to the table as you fly through the pages. Read the entire series again, and try to figure out what will happen next. I am sure I'll continue to be surprised, and my emotions pulled in every direction.
Excellent as always.
This is an excellent series that challenges your mores and acceptance of difference. I find it well written and engrossing and am always waiting for the next volume. As a spoiled modern reader I find it is more difficult to wait for each new volume, especially if the series is as good as this one. That is a compliment to the author, not to be taken as a demand. Books this good do take time and effort to craft and shape into the cherished read that they become. The anticipation for the next installment of the story simply enhances the excitement when it arrives. I highly recommend this series.
Great continuation, unexpected twists, but that does seem to be the whole point!
So many questions were answered. Questions that I hadn't even thought to ask. Which is why I think this series is so great. So many characters, so many perspectives, so many twists! It just keeps getting better, though this one was totally different from what I'd expected. Less action, more espionage, no humongous battle(s). It was slightly disappointing at first, and yet, no other way would have worked. All I gotta say is: Hax had better die, Ran needs to live forever, its nice to see more of Razor and Shift, but can I just say what?! Auryn Hadley-thanks for showing us this world. Many thanks!
Phenomenal
Auryn has absolutely nailed these characters. As I read through the book, I was able to see the way the characters wrote their own stories through her. The way she blends real problems into the world of the Iliri makes the reader feel each character's pain and joy. Readers can relate to the types of problems that Auryn addresses in her books. They see the similarities between our lives and those within the Iliri's world. She addresses political problems and unrest, racism, crime, instincts, and raw, unconditional love, all while managing to give the reader some steamy and very anticipated intimate scenes. It is for all of these reasons that Upheaval gets five stars from me. The writing is great, the story is captivating, the characters are real, and the settings feel almost tangible.
Excellent!
Sal's story continues in a book that has detailed action scenes as well as beautiful relationship development. We meet old friends, gain new ones and keep an eye on those we do not trust (yet?). Some fears are laid to rest, questions are answered but new ones arise. Will the deal between Sal and ayati hold? I loved this book. It is a worthy contender for the title of the best book in the series. Read it in one night and plan to reread as Auryn is well known for her talent to slip in small things that later have a huge impact to the story(line). Let's see how much can I spot :-)
Where's the next book?!?
I love these characters. There's so many different personalities and nuances that Auryn Hadley includes to make them pop off the pages. I know the storyline is full of strife and bloodshed, but I'm a little jealous. They dight with such passion and precision. Their military units are so bonded. I love this series. Also, please tell me Razor AND Tyr become official mates in the next book!?!?! I'm dying. Kolt and Tyr are, for whatever reason, my favorites. (I love Jase and Zep, too.) Please tell me they get to be mates!! Please!
Amazing!
I’ve been sucked into this world and it keeps getting better and better. The details that auryn puts out is beyond amazing and I feel like I get sucked into a whole new world. The battle for Sal is still going and she needs all her mates to stay strong! The 4th mate was unexpected and I totally thought it was going to be someone else. Ayati doesn’t know who she is messing with! The end of the book didn’t leave me in such a huge hangover and for that I appreciate! Can’t wait for the next
I Hate Auryn!!!
I hate Auryn Hadley because every time I think this series can't get any better she proves me so wrong. Her writing is mesmerizing and draws you in to the point where you are no longer reading but living the story. Her characters are so alive in a way not many authors can do. After finishing this book I immediately started to reread the series because I just wasn't ready to let go of Sal and her family. I know I always say this book was the best in the series after every book, but really and truly THIS book was the best! Auryn Hadley is a truly gifted writer whose worlds linger in your mind long after you have finished reading them and pulls you back in over and over again. If you haven't read a book by Auryn do it and start with this series. 💖💖💖
Upheaval Is Absolutely Amazing!
I wish I could give more than five measly stars because this book is so, so good and it deserves so many more! Omg there are so many twists and turns and so many surprises waiting in this book that I was kept constantly sitting on the edge of my seat waiting to see what else was going to be thrown my way. Upheaval is freaking fantastic, I loved It! I started reading and I could not stop until I got to the end of the book and now I need and want more. So yes I freaking do recommend this book because it’s so awesome and I think everyone should read it. But if you haven’t read the seven books before this one then I highly suggest that you do that way you’ll know who’s who and what’s what!
Keeps me wanting more!
Words are hard to come by when you have read a book that was so good, and you know for a fact that no matter what you say, you aren’t going to do the book justice. Upheaval by Auryn Hadley was beyond amazing. The suspense, the action...so perfect. This book focused less on the romance between Sal and her mates, but was still enough to make my heart race! I can never get enough of this fantastic world that this author has created. Every word… pure perfection. I devoured this book within hours of getting it, and once it was all over, I was left needing the next one. I’m hooked and will add Auryn to my short list of authors to one-click purchase no matter what she's writing.
Mind blowing!
Another incredible story for Auryn Hadley! So many series start to grind and leave you looking for something new. This is definitely not the case for the ROTI series. Her characters are true to form and exceptionally defined, the story engaging and well fleshed. Her use of suspense is outstanding and I can't wait for the next book to come out. I'll be reading this book again because as with all of the books in this series, there is so much foreshadowing that plays through each book that I know I missed some in the initial read. You won't regret investing the time to enjoy another peak into the irili world.
A bit disappointed!
I love this series and read it over and over but this was probably my least favorite. I probably would have given it 3 stars but the writing was so good I couldn’t do it. I wanted more Sal not Shade or Rayna. The new love interests made no sense to me for either of them there was no build up they were all the sudden interested and it wasn’t believable to me that way. Have any of them actually spent much time with the women to develop those feelings? For Sal they never interacted much and all the sudden they both like each other. Not buying it. I had been so excited to see who the next mate was but it just felt lackluster to me. I wanted more fighting, it seemed Sal played a minor role in this book. I like when the Blades are together not separated and with series winding down I was disappointed. I thought with them in Merrington this would have been epic and Sal just didn’t play enough of a role in the town of her painful past. The writing was excellent I just didn’t like where the story went.
Sigh
Yet again this book leaves me exhausted. There is so much feeling throughout that I can't help but be truly in awe of the author's ability to manipulate us mere mortals. I absolutely love these characters which is why they matter so much and absolutely don't want any of them to die. I am glad that Sal isn't done with adding more mates. The more the merrier. Now that I have survived this installment with my sanity mostly intact, I can build back up in time for the next book. Bring it on! 💚💜💛💙
Keeps Getting Better
Ms. Hadley continues to step up her author game with each new book. The comradiere of the characters causes one to wish there was this in real life. I've re-read the whole series each time there's a new book and find new things each time. The MC has been getting better each book and her supporting cast is the foundation for her improvement. I like that when there is sex, it is tastefully done at a necessary time and is not the main theme of the book. The relationships are what is important and the author continues to build them stronger. I hate that I have to wait so long for the next book. Hurry please.
Amazing!! Have to read ASAP!
The storyline kept me entangled and I couldn’t put it down! I read the entire series 1-8 in two days and can’t wait for more. The plot is phenomenal and inventive with amazing relationship development between all characters. You feel like you truly know the characters and live in this world, it pulls you in from book one and before you know it you’re fully invested in the outcome. This series is amazing.
Another Triumph
Book 8 of tho series starts a little slow and muddled then pulls you into a fantastically chaotic climax that is more than worth the wait. Auryn Hadley’s characters leave you growling for more and impress upon you a love of all things Iliri. The best way to process your sadness over waiting for boom 9? A re read! Because this book in particular pulls in some truly wonderful Easter eggs, including ones that have been waiting in the wings since book one. Upheaval is another triumph and is well worth your time
OMG Get This! Get it Right Now!
I want to just start and tell anyone reading this everything but no spoilers here as hard as it is not to do. I will say that this series is not like anything I've ever read. After each book in this series I think it's my favorite then the next publishes and I love it more! This is a RH fantasy fiction with a huge message. It keeps you on the edge of your seat. I couldn't put it down once I started. Loved it!
Surprise awaits!
I am not an individual that is prone to writing reviews, however this author deserves that and much more. I read all her books in one week, I could not get enough and I waiting patiently for this book to come... She takes the time to develop her characters, so you get attachments to the ones in the book. From a simple thing as witnessing how much the young Prince has grown and standing up for himself to our heroine that is surrounded by love and loyalty. Each time you turn around she throws you for another loop and desperately wanting more... Lets just say I did not see Razor making his way in.. I hope to see he becomes cessavi as well. Who will # 5 be, my hope is Tyr. I hope you all take the time to read this amazing series!
Absolutely love this series
Just when I can't think I can get more involved in the story and love it more, I do. Auryn does a great job of truly getting you so hyped up and emotionally engaged in the story that you can't stop reading for anything. Just trying to find a good place to stop so you can use the bathroom was hard to do because I just wanted to see what happened. I love Sal and her men and how this world that Auryn has created just keeps expanding and intertwining with AYATE. The struggles of loss they felt in this book made you reel back and say WTF but it all worked out in its own way. I hate every time the book ends but I know it will be followed up with another great book in the next coming months.
You Must Read This Book!
First of all, if you haven't read this series you must do that right now! Don't wait, don't add it to your TBR pile. Just read it now. As with the rest of the books in the series, this one doesn't disappoint in any way except the fact that it ends too soon! Auryn is one hell of a storyteller and she has moved into the number one spot on my favorite author list. Now, stop reading this review and get the book! You won't be sorry!!
So incredibly good
I adore this series! The plot of book 8 (read 1-7 first) is a smooth glide from book 7 and everything makes sense! The characters make you feel for them, the twists are everywhere and completely unpredictable, the ending abrupt but still a plausible stopping point and a great hook into book 9. The intimate scenes have real steam for those looking for that and each scene has purpose, it's not just gratuitous sex. Books by Auryn Hadley are what I reach for to reread when everything else is boring. This is a wonderful addition to the pile!
Another Great Addition
The foreshadowing the author does is brilliant. Random bits of what seems to be world building minor details will pop up books later and suddenly mean way more in a way that is completely mind blowing. More than the characters and the world and the battles this author makes you think. Upheaval is no different - read it, then read it again, then read the series again and every reread gives you another glimpse into how wonderfully connected and complex this world is. Then you, like so many of us Auryn Hadley rabid fans will be left eagerly awaiting her next story. I recommend this book and author without reserve.
WOW
This book had me in tears because it ended! I am so in love with this series, and I absolutely can not wait for more! I love Sal and her mates and I love the way they are written to life. I can almost feel the razor sharp teeth, and see the ears fold back! This author makes you live the stories as if they are actually happening and I can not get enough of it! Well done! It is an amazing book!
Love me some Sal!
Auryn Hadley has written another amazing book in this series. In this book we learn more about Sal and her past. She will have to meet her past head on now that they are at Merriton. This book is a turning point in Sal’s powers. She is learning and loving. And we really get into the battle and what may lie ahead. Would say more but don’t want to spoil it. Another awesome book in the series.
So Good
This is book 8 and cannot be read out of order. The author did a wonderful job on this book. An amazing continuation of the story with ups and downs, but oh so good. Well written story and characters with depth. This book starts almost immediately after book 7 ends. It is a story about Sal, her mates, her friends, her army, and what happens in Merriton. The author's writing style really improved from book 1 to book 8.
Sal is headed back to Merriton!
Sal is on her way to Merriton - after she and Shade deal with her estrus. I really liked their time away from the war and seeing the guys get a little crazy. The time is Merriton was hard, but I loved seeing Sal grow nad come to terms with her past, plush getting more time with Razor :) I also liked that not everything works out perfectly, and seeing them have to re-group. This is definitely one of my favorite series!
Stunning
My eyes are aching, I'm yawning non-stop and my bladder is screaming. Yep, I can't stop reading these books. Devastated that there's only two more! It's book 8, if you aren't loving it by now you won't start. If you haven't started, get on with it!
I hope it nevers ends!
The story of Sal has evolved from a little slave girl trying to make it in a cruel world to one where the slave has become the master. Not just the master, but a queen. Shes had to make hard choices and more are yet to come, but the completion of the story will know doubt be epic! I have literally cried, laughed, and jumped for joy with all the characters in this book. Never have a felt such emotion from reading a novel. The story is complex and amazing, showing us that life can be that simple and love really is the answer!
Another AMAZING Iliri Experience
I never wanted this book to end!!! It was action packed, emotional, gripping and SO GOOD! I love big books and usually take a few days to savor them. Not this one! It was an all-nighter kind of book and I'm in the post-awesome book hangover stage now - trying to find another book to live up to this & failing. I'll likely need to read through the series again to get it out of my system O_o. It's seriously THAT good. I think it was Auryn's best book yet and I can't wait for the next in the series <3
Loved it! Loved it! Loved it!
Like all the other books in this series this story is fast paced, but what I really loved is how real the author makes this world! The characters are all deep and explored evenly, which is amazing with there being so many! The descriptions are rich and I am truly transported everytime. I couldn’t put this book down, and that’s almost literal! Really looking forward to the next one!
Auryn Hadley has done it again
You'd think a series might lose its depth or intensity or even focus at 8 books. Auryn Hadley has managed to make each book an improvement on the last and has even more to offer it seems. It doesn't matter what type of fiction books you usually read-- this series is worth your time. In fact, if you like in-depth character development, books that bring you into a believable yet challenging plot line and twists and turns that are unexpected you'll probably read this series more than once. I cannot wait for the next one (or anything this author writes)!!!
Really Good book
I enjoyed this book. It moved forward the series in an interesting way. This isn't my favorite Illeri novel. This book had quite a lot of battle and (spoiler) defeat which wasn't my favorite but I really enjoyed Razor being introduced to Sam's harem. I also like all the opportunities this book gave for the next books in the series. A good addition to the series!
Wow...
I have to admit I've never been much of a reader before now. I took a chance with a free ebook(Resilience Rise of the Iliri book #6) and I am hooked. After reading book #6, I just had to see what happens next so I bought book #7. Then while I was waiting on book #8, I bought and binge read books 1-5 plus 6 & 7 again! I can't get enough! I like how Ms. Hadley really gets you feeling the emotions of her characters, whether it be happy, sad, witty, enraged, almost like you're one of the pack. Oh my the beginning of book #8 had me blushing and that doesn't happen very often, lol. This is my first ever review of a book so please bare with me. I just wanted to say how much I enjoy this series. It keeps getting better and better. Thank you Ms. Hadley for writing a story that peaked my interest to get me reading again. Until we meet again at book #9...
Definitely an epic installment
Solid 5 star rating! I preordered this installment to the series and was so happy when it downloaded this morning. What a wonderful birthday gift to me lol. There's plenty of action and romance. I thoroughly enjoyed the twists and additions to the storyline. Sal has a lot on her plate but she pushed thru, win or lose. My only disappointment was the last page. I wanted to keep reading on. Can not wait for the next installment.
Love This Series! Amazing, Must Read!
Auryn Hadley does it again. Not sure how, but the books seem to get better and better! Love that Razor got his chance to shine. Although, everything about Shade's situation hurts my heart. This book was a roller coaster of emotion and action, and once you finish the ride, your running to get in line again. Can't wait for the next book!
Amazing and addictive
I love this series more than any other I have ever read including game of thrones, hunger games, and many more. I have my favorite chapters marked and lines memorized. I still cry rereading certain parts. I can't wait for the next book even though I'm devastated at reaching the last book. I have my fingers crossed for Tyr and can't wait to see more of Razor. I adore jace, zep and kolt. So hoping for more interaction between jace and kolt and I adore ghost. Trying not to give anything away
Mind Blowing
I read then re-read this amazing book . I am totally blown away by this entire series but this eighth book may be my favorite . Every time I think I have what direction Ms. Hadley is leading us to, she uses Blaecs rules and completely surprises me. All the characters are so real and the strategy is mind blowing . If you have not read this series yet , I urge you to start with Book one. I guarantee that once you start you will not be able to stop !
This was everything!
I love this series so much and it just keeps getting better and better with each book. Book 8 in particular had my emotions all over the place, it was an amazing rollercoaster ride and I am desperate for book 9. Sal, did so much in this book emotionally, her character grew so much it was insane but expertly done. I'm just so happy with the results and the book hangover I'm sure to have.
Absolutely amazed.
A spoiler free review. Some books you read. Some books you enjoy. But some books ... swallow you up heart and soul. This was definitely the third. After the first read through, I spent, literally, a few hours in a state of almost-shock, left with a pervading feeling of emptiness - as if every bit of my emotion had been consumed, burnt in the flames each word should have left on the paper. And craving more. Stunning. Simply stunning.
Things are getting clearer
In this 8th book, things are finally starting to show that ayati may finally be looking kindly on Sal. But there needs to be balance. Definitely one of my favorites in the series, Upheaval is a book that will stick with me for a long time, one that will be read again and again. As always, Auryn's work is extremely well written, creating a story strong enough to pull you from reality. And for those of you wondering, the steam is nearly scorching.
Upheaval (8 of series, read in order)
And the Rise of the Iliri saga continues… I was hooked on this series from book one, and once again, Hadley delivers with another complex plot (and sub-plots) and her cast of engaging characters. Great storyline progression in this installment, and quite a few more surprises--gotta love the writer's fertile mind.
More perspectives make for a great read
Another amazing story, this book having more perspectives was really enjoyable. Keeping all the new connections in my head is stretching my brain capacity, particularly as more new characters and old ones come into the story. A reference at the end might be great for the nezpxt book. Still loving the story.
Excellent installment
The eighth book in the Rise of the Iliri series packs some major action and drama. Merriton contains so much hope and pain for Sal and we get to see if she'll break or move on. Some of the side characters get more page time and just the sorry more depth (and you more characters to worry about). I really love this series and can't wait till the next one comes out.
Love this series!
I devoured each of these books. You just never want to put them down. I love the characters in them all!! They have laughter, tears and love, who could ask for more? I hope there will be more in the series to come! I check every couple of weeks to see if there is a new release. I can't wait for the next one if there is one. I hope this encourages others to bring this to life in their imaginations. You won't be sorry if you purchase the series all at once (it's cheaper that way. ~Enjoy~ Tammie
Amazing!!
Auryn has done it again in book 8 of this amazing series. The character growth in this one is phenomenal as Sal faces her past in Merriton while still battling Terric. This book was so good and had those unbeatable moments that tugged at your heart strings. I can’t wait for book 9.
One of the best series I have read
I am 67 years old and this is a fantastic series. the only thing I didn't like is the next one in this series is not out yet. please let us know when the next one is out. I can't wait for number 9.
Amazing read
If you have not started this series, do so now. It's like no other series I've ever read before. The world building, the characters, the whole thing comes alive in your head. It will suck you in and tear you apart. If you think you know what a book hangover is, you know nothing yet. Auryn is truly a genius at words.
Favorite Series of all time.
Okay, so in terms of the first 7 books, this one is not as “exciting”. However, I believe that part of the reason for that is that it’s setting the scene for the remaining 2 books to come. This is my all time, hands down, favorite series! So do yourself a favor and go read it. Notice I still gave it 5 stars, that’s because even if it’s not as “exciting” it’s still a fantastic read! I love Sal and all the people around her. I can’t wait to see what happens next.
Excellent pace, delivers on each plot line in every book. No lazy cliffhangers here!
I am loving this series. It echoes some of my favorite concepts from the Black Jewels series, while creating an entirely new universe that holds its own. Cannot wait for the next installation.
Truly Amazing!
The world that Auryn Hadley has created for her series is truly amazing. l love every every part of them, even when it makes me upset or sad. The story of the Iliri, that has been woven into 8 books now is one you truly do not want to miss.
Another great book!
Auryn had done it again!! Sal and her mates continue to grow closer while dealing with her past in Merriton. Loved that we get to see all the characters and how devoted they are to Dal. Especially love who Sal’s 4th mate might be!!!
Better
Continuously Auryn Hadley brings it. The world if the Iliri continues with Sal and crew heading off to battle. We never know what will happen.. new mate? Old friends? Older enemies? Someone lives, someone dies? A past to be confronted and laid to rest. It's all here as the journey grows.
Upheaval
Another great installment. As usual an action packed, emotional, and character driven experience. You will not be disappointed, another home run for Auryn. Now I am off to re-read it to catch all the little Easter eggs I missed the first time through.
Love this story.
Great series, each book keeps getting better. You become so invested in the characters. I just hope we get a happy ending, tried of books that kill of everyone you have cheering for. The only bad thing waiting for the next book. Hope she writes fast.
It has everything!!!
I love this whole series! It literally has everything ! I love the heroine of this series she makes you want to be like her. I laughed and I cried and all emotions in between I felt them all. I don't leave many reviews on books however I just have to let everyone know how incredibly awesome this series is. Beautifully written!
If you love epic romance then read this series
So good. I can't wait to see how the series ends but I don't want it to end. I love the characters. I love their love for each other and their people. Ms. Hadley writes so well. You would kill yourself trying to find typos and grammar mistakes. These books are epic. You have to read the series in sequence. They are not stand alone. This series is awesome.
Fantastic series!!
Once again, I'm missing sleep because i had to finish this next installment. This is a great series and i wish very much that it would be made into an Audible. Looking forward to the next book.
Loved it
So far I have really enjoyed this series. It's very well written, and keeps you interested.
E
I can do without quite so much of the `steam`. I have now read all 8 of the books available to date. And put my entire life on hold to do it! All but impossible to put down. The storyline makes sense, the plot keeps you turning pages well beyond bed time...even if you are reading it on a tablet! Keep up the good work.
The title says it all
I waited months to read this book and the only disappointment was that it ended. I already want to know when the next book will be published. This series is phenomenal. Auryn Hadley is beyond fantastic as an author and I want to say " Thank you " to her for this series as well as sharing her talent. Mike & Jo.
Total perfection. I want more!!!!
Another great book, Auryn never disappoints. ROTI has become my favorite series ever. I have enjoyed Sal’s journey all the way to Upheaval. I love how 8 books later, I’m still getting surprises that makes the series so successful. I love Sal, she is my hero. I love all her mates and can’t wait to see what’s next.
5++stars!
I love this series so much! I swear my heart is constantly in the pit of my stomach, my emotions have been on a delightful rollercoaster. I cant say enough how much I enjoy every single one of auryns books!
Engaging
Even better than the last. It's nice to have a series take its time and allow characters to grow into themselves.
Epic
This series just gets better with each book! I read this entire book in one sitting because I couldn't wait to see what happened. I really wasn't ready for it to be over yet either. I will be eagerly awaiting the next book!
I loved this book but....
This book was as great as the others. I actually re-read the series before picking up this one and my favorite is the third one. I loved this book but I need me some Sal/ Tyr love. I think it's time.
Intense
The book is well written and all that stuff. The plot... intense, I couldn't put it down. It solves a few problems and moves the story along, which I can't wait to read in the next book. This series is on my automatic buy-list
Best series ever
So much happens in this book! I love how all of the characters are coming together and that the battle is still raging hard core. My heart stopped in this one, but luckily started again 😊❤️ Only a few more books left!
Wow
She has done it again. This storyline is fantastic. I have found that the longer series tends to stall. This one keeps getting better. Sal is battling fate and has set her rules. Her and the army are running down the time until the major clash of countries. She has inspired all she has met, and does not grasp how important she is to everyone.
It gets better
It gets better because have can't wait. I held off and re-read the whole series up to now. I held the next three books behind so I can binge now without stopping. The last book written comes out on my birthday. Ayati!
I'm well and truly hooked
5 stars because i'm hooked. I usually fade out on a series after the 3rd or 4th book, BUT surprise! I'm about to download #9. Upheaval was an entertaining, on the edge of my seat kind of read making me want more.
Pain, death, life
The Blades work to frustrate Terric’s ambition, leading them into danger while Sal struggles to understand the demands of Ayati. Bargains are struck, battles fought, lessons learned, and pain endured, to bring hope to the people.
A job well done
Your books just keep getting better and better. I love the intricacies of the story and I can't wait for the next installment. Thank you for this wonderful world you have built.
Read 1-7 first.
Again Auryn rocked it! Totally amazing and impossible to put down! Each book in this series gets better and better! Remember to read 1-7 or you'll be totally lost. Favorite series ever and a little bit of everything in this one. Auryn Hadley you are a writing goddess!
This is a full fledged action/adventure/sci-fi/fantasy/romance series.
I'm really enjoying the Rise of the Iliri series. Each book in the series is well written. This is a story that you can get lost in. It has a little bit of everything: action/adventure, good vs. evil, romance and more. The writing and the story has not gotten stale. I look forward to the next books in the series and plan to re-read them when the series is complete.
Excellent Series - a Must Read
This series is phenomenal and #8 is no exception. Often a series will founder in the later books. Not this one. The author continues to impress both in plot and character development. Can't wait for the next one.
She did it, once again
Yes, Auryn Hadley did, once again, wrote a phenomenal book. The readers are following Sal and the Blades to Merriton in their fight against the Terran army. But Sal also has to battle the demons from her enslavement there. Will Ayati let her win this one or will Sal follow in every other Kaysaes footsteps?
Wild
What a wild ride. Heart pumping action full of twist and turns with outcomes I did not see coming. Relationships I did not see coming. Welcome back sal😉
Great Story teller!
Auryn Hadley keeps you wanting more! I keep re-reading her books, and they always have always enthralled me the minute I start to read them. This woman is a born story teller. Love all of her books! Thank you for being such a super author!
love these books
This author writes this series of books like they could actually almost be real. The stories are mesmerizing. This is an Adult series, Not PG rated.
I adore this series!
This is the first reverse harem I’ve read, and it’s so seamless to the story that I didn’t even realize until I’d read most of the series. You quickly grow to love the characters, and I ant help but hope the series continues for a long time!
Intense read
This series has intense, colorful, well developed characters that pull you into their world and make you a part of it. You share their triumphs, mistakes, love, laughter, but most of all their determination to make a better world. All this just leaves me wishing that Sal her mates and friends lived here.
Amazing
I think this is the best book of the series yet. Sal is stronger than ever and has learned to trust and lean on her pack when she needs too. I can’t wait for the next book!
Worth the wait
Finally got home from work so I could tear into this book. So good! More answers, more character development and more feelings! Best series ever <3
Great
Another great addition to the Rise of the Iliri series, A little slow at the beginning but overall a fantastic read that I thoroughly enjoyed.
Ready for more
I have enjoyed reading this book as much as the all the others. UPHEAVAL left me wanting more and can't wait to read the next one in the series!
Exciting fantasy read.
Awesome series. Adventure, romance and everything in between. I sure hope there is a 9th book. Can't wait to read it.
An Interim Ending ppl p
I agree with all the positive comments. However, after completing 20 percent of Book 8 I stopped reading. The lines of human/other sexuality no longer contributed much to the narrative. The author pushed the boundaries beyond incredulity and left me feeling less and not more.
Loving Gage
I was glad to see Sal stepping back a bit and letting her friends help in this one. I'm excited to see where things go with Gage. Good book, looking forward to reading the rest.
The Book Hangover is Real!!!!!!
I absolutely loved this book. So many things to express and I'm too excited to do this review justice. Her characters become people you wish you knew!
Must must read
Everyone should read this series. Storytelling at it’s best. Great pace and characters. And then your there.
You won't be able to stop reading.
I read all eight books in two weeks. Absolutely fantastic and compelling. I laughed, cheered for the good guys, was angry at the bad guys, and cried. It takes a really good writer to get a reader emotionally involved, not just in one book, but throughout the entire series. Well done.
Fantastic Continuation of Sal's Story
This book is one roller coaster read! It's fast, dizzying, a little scary, and you want to go again after you finish it!
Too many
Love the series. Love that the characters keep growing. I am hoping the next book doesn't take too long. Do not like how many times the word upheaval showed up. When the author started adding the title word in important spots I noticed and went, ah that's cute, in my head. In this story it just showed up too often and bugged me.
A Must Read
I don’t know how she does it, but Auryn is one of those authors that somehow manages to make each book better than the last; not just as good, but better. When the first books are amazing, that says a lot! I highly recommend this book and the entire series. It’s a must read!
The best one yet
Oh my goodness Auryn. This was a treat. It broke my heart and remade it.
So very exciting!
The action never stops. Everyone gets a turn in the spotlight, more or less. Everyone gives their all, and is the better for it.
It just gets better
Omg what a rush thank you ms Hadley again you have delivered and I need some time to recover lol
Practicing patience waiting for more from this epic series.
This has become one of my favorite series ever. The characters are three dimensional and stay true to their personalities. Ms. Hadley has blessed us with her hard work and great gift. Thank you for giving us a place to get lost in.
I don't want it to end
This series is so good. I laugh and cry and get way too invested in the fictional lives in this world.
The best
I love this book. What a great addition to an epic story. I love everything about this series. The world building, the character development and everything else is spot on!
A nice addition to the epic series
A spoiler free review. ROTI is hands down my favorite series. I reread it once a month usually over a week. This book felt - somewhat meh - to me. I don't know if it was because this story was less from Sals prospective / following her - and there were more prospectives from / following others this book than the other ones (like about half of the book was following someone else other than Sal). Maybe it was just the setting they were all in (spying and investigating in Merriton) instead of fighting an epic battle or them all in different locations - but to me it was boring. Some new characters join in, some characters from the shadows/behind the scenes come forward. Yet I felt Sal and her mates fell in the background some, especially after the first third of the book. Two of the new relationships seemed forced to me - with the dialog of nicknames between two of the characters being cringy. There were a lot of surprises within this book and the author leaves you to wonder how will this series end in just two / three more books. Don't get me wrong. I love this series. This was a good addition to the series and added more to it. It just wasn't my favorite book and I thought this book was going to be different than what it was.
Disappointed
How could you end the series like this? What happens in the fight against the Terrins?I have read every book & feel like I was left hanging. :(
EPIC
This series keeps getting better and better! I couldn't put the book down and I cannot wait for the next one! Everything an epic fantasy should be. Thank you Auryn for gracing us with your beautiful mind.
Kaisae still going strong
I like that the sexual antics are not so in your face that you cannot enjoy the ongoing story. Kaisae draws another into her harem.
So much action
Wow incredible next installment of an epic story. So much happening in a short period of time. She's got her dava now, and he's going to protect her how she should have always been protected. More love and support for Sal. Poor Shade. Oh break my heart.
Fabulous read
Can't wait to read the next book when it comes out. I'm really enjoying the series so far. Hope the next one comes out soon.
Great book series to start!
I truly enjoyed this series of books. The characters kept me interested and the storyline was easy to follow. I cared about what was going to happen next.
Amazing as always!
Love it! We get more about Sal’s background and her advancing abilities! The next step in the war happens! Guy 4 😍! So excited for the advance in the story! And Shadden: love it, sad for her and just wow! The whole book just Wow!
There hasn’t been a book in this series that I haven’t wanted more! Emotions were rampant, but I loved every second of it. This has been one of my favorite series to read.
Best yet!
ROTI is such a fun ride. This is definitely the next heart racing journey for this group. Possibly even my favorite book so far. I highly recommend reading this book and the series.... then again and again
Can't wait for the next one
Steamy, sweet, compelling, and unpredictable. I loved it and Auryn Hadley is amazingly talented.
A very interesting read.
I just finish Upheaval. I am so looking forward to the next book to drop. This was well written and very fleshed out. I loved it.
Holy crap o.o
Without giving anything away. All I can say is that this writer has further develop everyone. The surprises, the sneaks of NOO will not leave you sad. Seriously read this one and every other it is worth it
Loved it
Definitely my favorite series! Impatiently waiting for the next release!
Best series EVER!!
I can't get enough of this author & series! Long, well written stories that will keep you up for days b/c you can't stop reading!!
Wow
I love this series so much. Each book in this series is so good. I can’t wait to read the next book in this series. I would definitely recommend this book.
Of course it’s five stars!
Of course it’s five stars! What’s not to love.
Real characters with an epic tale to share!
Absolutely love everything about this series. Does anyone know if it will ever be made into audibles? Would love to listen to this series while I work.
Incredible
Amazing as always
Emotional Rollercoaster!
This book was amazing. The story pulls you in and makes you invest in the characters and their happiness. Can't wait for the next book.
Awesome series indeed
Kept up the pace and interest of the series; great character development; looking forward to the next one tho I'll have to re read...its been so long.
Number 8 as great as the rest.
This author writes well. The 8th book is just as good as the first. To understand every nuance, you need to start with book one, but I think someone who hasn't read them all could still enjoy the book.
This is an awesome series!!
I found this series by accident! I love them! Can’t wait till the next one comes out!
I'm speechless...
Wow. I have loved every moment of the story of Salyrc Luxx... just wow. I can't wait for the next book!
The reverese harem epic ness does not quit🖤
I love it. I have developed heart wrenching bonds to this world and these characters and am waiting with baited breath for more!
Awesome
Loved this book!! It continued the story at a fast pace but kept you enthralled to the very end. Can't wait to see how Sal moves forward next.
One of the best written Epic fantasy series I have ever read
8 books in and 4,000 pages and Hadley hasn't slowed down a bit. Characters keep getting more complex and wonderful as the plot unfurls with intricate intrigue and complex foreshadowing. I cannot recommend this book, series or author highly enough!
Can't believe this is the last book out now
Loved this book and the whole series!! Cannot wait until the next two books are out!! Loved the dept of the books characters and the plots.
Added to my collection
Added the paperback to my library collection after reading the complete series in ebook form. Love this series.
Omg!
Prepare for an upheaval! And omg gage!💛💛💛💛 oh and Jase, zep and kolt!💛💛 I love this series you should read it!

Loved the unexpected twists and turns in this book. Loved the different character perspectives. Lots of action. I couldn't put this book down.
worth the wait
Love this series and this one did not disappoint!!!
Great Read!
Awsome Stuff. Could not put it down.
She has done it again
This series just keeps getting better. I wish I could give it 10 stars.
Amazing unique plot excellent character development
I just love this series!
Loved it!!!
I never get tired of this series. It just keeps getting better. I can't wait for the next book to see what happens next.
Love this series
One of my favorite authors and series. This book is amazing
Why
This book tugged me back and forth. I love this series and the journey of our Heroine Salryc Luxx. This book is probably the weakest in my opinion. The author most likely has a grand plan as to why everything in this book needed to happen but to me it just was not as balanced and cohesive as the other books in the series. There was so much internal dialogue where different characters would switch between emotions at the drop of a hat before circling back and starting that same emotional cycle again. It was frustrating and exhausting. Take out most of that and you would be down at least 100 pages. And adding one more man to the mix of mates was very random (again I am obviously not seeing the authors grand plan) but it was just one more random thing spliced into this book. I love this series and trust the author enough to continue but her constant back talk about the deceased Blaec Doll through her characters really offends me and the memory of such a great character. Of course I will continue and finish this series because I am so invested. I just hope I see the reasons behind all the nonsense I went through reading this book.
Absolutely brilliant - not that I expect anything less from this author
This would have to be the best book in the series to date, which is saying something! You'd think the awesomeness would have to plateau at some point, but no, each book is better than the last, truly showcasing what an amazing author Ms Hadley is. This is one of those series' that can be read over and over, and you will find something new each time. Not to mention that each book brings together the hints and tips that were left for us back at the start of the series - and we didn't even know it! The reveal happens, and you just have to sit there stunned at the mastery required to weave it that far into the future - and them you just want to go back and re-read the entire series to figure out what else you missed! As for the story in this book, Sal and the Blades make their way to Meriton with the Conglomerate army now working with Anglia. The book starts with them taking a slight detour to allow Sal and Shade to go through their annual cycle - and boy is it hillarious how everyone reacts to what they're going through!! Not only their mates, but the rest of the blades and even the Anglian army. Rayna is the only one able to keep her wits, and keep them in line (gotta love Rayna!!). As they move toward Meriton and then infiltrate the city, we see a new side to a lot of the characters. New relationships are formed, and while some of them I was rooting for, others caught me by surprise. We meet some old characters (including Sal's former master/owner) and some new ones too - leaving me trying to piece together how it's all going to fit. By the end of the book, there were many plotlines closed out, and many new ones opened. The epilogue just make me more curious as to what was happening in Anglia while everyone is away, but thankfully there were no cliffhangers - just me wanting more, and to have it right now! As is always the case with this author, I now have a massive book hangover, and will likely re-read the entire series including this one to try and get past it, and quiet some of the questions running around my head. If you haven't read this series, then do yourself a favour and go do it now. The box sets are out so there's really no excuse! You won't regret taking on the mastery that is Auryn Hadley!
So many twists!!!!
I am so hooked on this series!!!! I have read a lot of series and I mean a lot!!! Lie probably over 300 series!!! And this series is such a refreshing change from the other books I have read. I have become so,obsessed with these books that I find my self reading so engrossed in he books that when I realize what time it is I have been up all night!!! And trust me it takes a lot to hold my attention!!! But this series has definitely held my attention!! I have been overjoyed and completely devastated with some of the twists in these books. I have found my self crying my heart out over the losses in this book and i have also been so overjoyed with the outcomes too!!!! I love the fact of all of the new characters coming into play with the original ones. It keeps the magic alive in this series. I can only say that this author is truly amazing!!!! And I can't wait for more books to come out!!! I have told all of my friends and family of this series and right now my daughter,my son, and three of my friends are reading them now!!!! And they are as hooked as I am!!!!
Wow - i am addicted...give me more!!!!
OH MY GOD! This is an amazing story! Every book is better than it predecessor and leaves you wanting more. I was off on a long lazy vacation and needed some "easy" reading material and stumbled on this series of books. I saw the "reverse harem epic fantasy" and thought "why not." This is nothing like any other reverse harem books or even any romance novels. No - ROTI (that's Rise of The Illiri for you newbies) - is in a class of its own. There is romance sure, but there is mystery, suspense, intrigue, tactics, fantasy, personal relationships, magic - i can go on and on. Here is what sets this book and the series as a whole apart. Each book gets better - each story (book) is great on its own, but as you make your way through the series, the stories get more complex, more full bodied, more intense. Each book is tied to another yet the author manages to finish each without cliff-hangers and your yearn for more. This book 8 brings back book 1 and we get to learn more about Sal's story from the beginning. There are a few new faces added to the array of characters and I can't wait to see how they are more developed in book 9. It is also, in my opinion, the most "nail-biting" book thus far. It is very fast paced and I felt like my head was spinning a few times. Loved it! Can't wait for Book 9.
The most unforgettable series I have ever read
I am going to try and minimize spoilers but be warned that there might be some. This series has rocked my world. I read 1-8 back to back and I can't get any of it out of my head. I can't even choose to read a different book because I am still drawn into this series. I even preordered book 9 and am desperate to continue to read the journey. Here is where some spoilers might come in. I was never a fan of LT as a mate but as a commander and friend his character was iconic. I am in love with all "3" mates and the relationship they have with each other and I'm also on the tip of my toes to hear more about the 4th because he was more a side/back character. The connection with every book keeps you guessing and wanting more. I have never cried so hard during a series or been as addicted to it as I am roti. Completely blown away by every character and their development. Can't wait to read more and thank you so much for writing this series.
Couldn't stop reading
I started at book one and couldn't put the books down until I finished what was published of the series. This is the best series I have read in a long time. There's so much more to these books than romance. I was really only looking for a good romance novel and wasn't expecting this. The plot lines keep me glued to this series. I normally skip over boring and unimportant scenes in books and haven't done that at all with this series because everything is important. I am really looking forward to the last books and I'm hoping for a happy ending. I expect Geo to get his time in the spotlight soon and I'm glad the rest of the Blades have been in the story more.
Action-Packed But With Several Plot Holes
This book is action-packed and I still enjoy the series overall, but unfortunately, I feel that the series has been dragging off-and-on since Book 5. I'm giving this Book 8 - Upheaval, a 3.5-4* because there were several holes in the plot that frustrated me: 1. It was mentioned multiple times previously that there are 9 MILLION grauoris - one of Anglia's greatest advantages. Fighting power, therefore, should NOT be an issue, especially when Merriton is supposedly crucial too the war overall. 2. Sal's cunning and ability to understand+predict opponents' strategies were traits she possessed even before being a Black Blade. Her skills have improved and she has actually gained more powers than any other Kaisie (i.e. in Book 6 she was able to identify people like the "True Soldiers" with harmful intent by just looking at their "pattern"), so it's quite unrealistic that she would have missed so much in Merriton. Also, with her extraordinary senses along with that of other illiri and grauori, how were they surrounded/ambushed, or tricked, so often? 3. WHY would they be unarmed on a mission, undercover or not, when elite officers even sleep armed? All or almost all of the undercover Blades were unarmed in Merriton! ***SPOILER*** 4. Merriton is THE major shipping port, so sea transportation and warfare should be obvious options. Even without Sal being involved in all of the strategic planning, someone should have thought to monitor the port and beaches.
So. 2 more books...
As I write this, only 8 books have been published. As I've said before, I usually wait until all the books are out to start a new series. I got sucked into this set by the promise of an epic tale of love, female warriors, unique cultures, and an entire new world to (mentally) play in. Sadly, it lives up to the initial promise. Sad? Yes! Because now I have to wait for the last (next?) 2 books! Ok, enough whining. Oh my goddess! This book is awesome! Thankfully not as heart-wrenching as the 4th, it is about winning & losing, and the tai chi of war. Did Sal win? Did she lose? Maybe she won by losing... Ayati seems happy to play by the Kaisae's rules, for now at least. I'm hoping Razor takes Cinnor, and maybe Tyr takes Viernor, even though he's human. She needs more mates, if only for the support. Kudos to Dom for accepting his Consort's dernor. Looking forward to the next installment, even though it will take me a couple days to read back through the prior books again, so I can remember everything. Good thing I like them...
Series keeps getting better
I have read this series several times waiting for the release of the next book, and YES I put it off reading it! The reason, who wants to wait that long for the next book!!! Ok, so lets all be honest Auryn is a knock it out of the ballpark kind of writer! She knows how to write that will suck the reader in and make them forget that is dinner time, bedtime or almost time for the morning alarm to go off! I have read almost very thing she has put out and this book did NOT leave me disappointed. I did feel that at points in the story there was a little bit of lag or less action and more story, but as I read those "lag" points added to the story, the twist, the turns, the oh my points and truly gave the reader a bit more. As we continue our journey with Sal, her harem, the Black Blades, Devil Dogs, and the entire continent as they struggle to win the war with the Emperor of Terric who has engaged them in. This book gives us the chance to meet more of the family pack Sal has created; the background characters take on more of a leading role(Razor to name one). The twist is the way the the Black Blades split up to infiltrate a city the city of Merriton. This is a major part of the story line, and it gives way to how each member trust another, the love each person has for another and the lengths the family will go to ensure the safety of its members and their Kaisae. We also get a better glimpse of the General Ran, the Kaisae's dava, which only makes you love him more! The book is hope, love and strength! Truly a intriguing story and I cant wait for the next book to come out!
Like the richest chocolate
I just finished reading the eighth book in the Rise of the Iliri series. Started the series on Monday, done the following Sunday. I have been reading fantasy almost exclusively for many years. Without doubt, this is the best I have ever read. I can't think of enough accolades! During the past week, I frequently stayed up until 3, 4, or even 5 in the morning because there was simply no point in the story where I could put it down. The story, the characters, the world were so vividly described that I literally lived there, with them, for a week of my life. Better than any vacation! I won't even try to give a synopsis or provide any spoilers because the plot is too complex and dense to begin to do that. The characters! There are so many of them, but each detailed enough that I feel I know most of them as intimately as my own family. I've cheered for them, loved with them, worried with them, and cried with them. Not about them, but WITH them. To me, there is no higher praise for an author. Like everyone else, I want the last two books in this series NOW! But I know great writing takes time. I think I'll start rereading the whole series, just so I can I can savour the taste of these delicious novels again and see what I missed in those early morning hours! For those who are critical of such things, the editing of these books is superb. Almost no typos, plot points are never left hanging. There are characters (so many of them!) that may seem extraneous, but they nearly all become important later. This is rich, luxurious reading. Buy the books, sit back, and enjoy the best fantasy series ever! Highest recommendation.
So good!
This series has completely taken over every spare moment of my time. I just cannot walk away from it! It’s actually a little difficult to pause for this review because I want to move on to the next book. If you’ve made it this far in the series already then this shouldn’t be considered a spoiler. I’m struggling with understanding Ayati. If the humans made the Iliri, why is Ayati portrayed as the ruler of Ilirians? Not sure if the confusion is intentional or I’m just a little slow on figuring things out. I will say that I did have a pretty difficult time swallowing all of negative comments of Blaec throughout the book. I know that there was truth to them and I understand the reason it was needed in the story, I just felt like it was a pretty drastic flip in Sal’s thinking.
WOW
Mrs. Hadley never disappoints!! As with the previous books, I was drug (happily I might add) into a story line that was well thought out and hard to put down. I am fully invested in seeing just how the world that was created plays out. And look forward to the rest of the story. The dialog was fun to read and moved the story along in a way that was easy to fall into. The characters feel so real that I keep expecting to walk out the door and bump into an Iliri. They are flushed out well and have full backstories and motivations. None of the story felt like "fluff". No whinny, save me please, FMC. The male leads all had a purpose besides being "pretty". The only complaint? That it was over. This author has quickly become one of my favorites to reread when other books fall short. Well done Mrs. Hadley, keep them coming. I was given a ARC in exchange for my honest review. Honestly PICK THIS UP!!! Well worth the nights of missing sleep to read just one more chapter.
Give me all the books!!!
After reading each book in this series I think there is no way to top the last but I'm always proven wrong and it ends up better than the last. The way they seamlessly intertwine and pull you in until your begging for one more chapter, sentence, or word. You are drawn in until you are living right along with the characters. You laugh, and cry, and sometimes find yourself scared while devouring it's pages. But at the end of each book I always end up murmuring... It Matters. I cannot wait for the next book and wait patiently for what Ayati has in store.
Best of the series
In my opinion, this book is the best of the entire series. It’s as if the author is really getting the hang of writing. Most the issues that pulled me out of the stories in the previous books disappeared. For example, the skin colors of humans naturally varied, not just because they mixed with Iliri. The talk of who is superior from the Sal and her crew was minimum. Instead they focused on the strengths and integration. It’s finally embraced the reverse harem and erotica the description promised. There are more examples but overall I like the changes. As far as the story went, this one was exciting. It captured my attention in a way the previous books haven’t. It was full of action and suspense. Since the author boldly killed off Blaec several books ago, i wasn’t sure who would survive this encounter. My hope for the next to books is the author keeps me guessing and doesn’t make the main characters invincible. I don’t mind a tearjerker here and there. It makes a story more believable.
Brilliant, Intriguing and so addicting you can’t put it down!
I have such a book hangover but here goes, from the first book of this series you will be hooked. The depth of character, intricate detail, complete and complex storyline of The iliri is something you so rarely find these days. This author has such amazing talent and these books will take you into another world in a far off galaxy yet present struggles every reader can relate to. Animosity, indifference, family, love, hate, joy, faith and above all strength. With each new book of this series I have re-read the previous ones, and each time I get sucked in. Each time I find something new, some details I either forgot or didn’t absorb before. Each time I fall in love with the characters, their stories and with how truly well written each book is I find myself in their world. With scent descriptions, beautifully detailed landscapes, tastes and colors my imagination is able to perfectly “meld” into the stories. As with each new release I hate the author a little more just because I’m so desperate to reach the end of this amazing story only so I can read it a thousand more times.as with each new release my love for the author also grows as I get more of the amazing story of my Kaisae her cessivi and hope she truly makes ayati her b****! Please read this series so I have more people to talk to about my love/hate for this author!
So love this series!
I ran through the first 7 books, ate it up. Waited for what felt like forever for 8. Now I'm gonna be waiting w bated breath for the next book. Please don't take too long the story is so good. Honestly its better than lord of the rings series. I just cannot get enough. I would say its along the lines of the Dune series, generational to an extent, in that the world created is so full of potential. The characters are awesome, i want to know them better. It was almost a year between when I finished 7 and waited for 8. Yet the characters and world were still with me that i didn't have to go back to move forward. Thank you Auryn, keep the momentum.
