Tens of thousands of clinicians have used this book--now revised and expanded with 50% new material--to plan and organize effective interventions for children and adolescents who have experienced complex trauma. The Attachment, Regulation, and Competency (ARC) framework can be used with children, parents, and other caregivers in a wide range of settings. The volume guides the clinician to identify key treatment goals and intervene flexibly to strengthen child–caregiver relationships and support healthy development and positive functioning. In a large-size format with lay-flat binding for easy photocopying, it is packed with case vignettes and clinical tools, including 79 reproducible handouts and forms. Purchasers get access to a Web page where they can download and print the reproducible materials.

*More than 30 additional handouts and worksheets; all reproducible tools are now downloadable.
*Greater attention to caregiver skill development throughout.

A must have if working with trauma kids and parents

I am a clinician working with many trauma kids and parents. I had used the first edition of this book and was very pleased with the psychoed, worksheets, and information. This edition added additional worksheets/packets which makes it easy to apply what you know and learn about attachment, regulation, and competency in a variety of settings. I have used the processing packet in a clinic setting, in a school setting, and with inhome therapy. There is an increasing need for mental health practitioners to understand and be able to apply trauma based therapy with children, families, and parents; this book helps increase understanding around the importance of attachment and it’s pivotal role in working with traumatized youths.

THE definitive book on complex trauma treatment with children, youth and caregiving systems

This lovely, almost inconceivably comprehensive book should be on the top shelf of every child and family therapist practicing today, whether or not they conceptualize themselves as "trauma therapists." It is also serves as a highly valuable resource for multidisciplinary providers, educators and related professionals, particularly those who work with children, youth or young adults in congregate settings including school, residential treatment centers, daycare, early intervention, drop-in centers, family shelters, and juvenile detention facilities). In this second edition, the authors have captured the rich evolution of their ARC (Attachment, Regulation, Competency) intervention model, with increased emphasis on undertaking this work within diverse caregiving systems and settings. It also includes extensive new material on tailoring ARC treatment with clients, their families and caregiving systems based on particular phases --defined and described by the authors-- in the recovery process from complex trauma. Finally, this edition now includes so many exercises, worksheets and handouts that they practically constitute a separate workbook in and of themselves. These can be downloaded to guide treatment planning, supervision, classroom and milieu activities. As a complex trauma treatment model co-developer myself, I am humbled by this book and can give no higher praise than to admit that I wish I had written it. I commend the authors for the unexpected feat of surpassing their initial achievement with this outstanding and essential second edition.
