Millions of people are suffering from chronic illnesses that, unbeknownst to them, are the result of exposure to environmental toxins and infectious agents such as mold and Borrelia, which causes Lyme disease. Millions. Because the symptoms of these illnesses are so varied and unusual, many of these individuals have sought medical care only to be dismissed, as if what they are experiencing is "in their head." Many (if not most) have tried to tough it out and continue to function without hope of improvement. Unfortunately, their illnesses are very real.

Toxic is a book of hope for these individuals, their loved ones, and the physicians who provide their care. Over many years of helping thousands of patients recover their health (even after their previous doctors had given up on them), Dr. Neil Nathan has come to understand some of the most common causes for these debilitating illnesses, which allows for the utilization of more precise and effective forms of treatment.

The goal of this book is to shed light on these complex illnesses so that suffering patients and their families can get the help they so desperately need. Inside, you will find:
  • Information about how extreme sensitivity and toxicity develop in the body, how sensitivity and toxicity differ, and how they often overlap.
  • Detailed descriptions of each of the five major causes of extreme sensitivity and toxicity: mold, Bartonella (a co-infection of Lyme disease), mast cell activation, porphyria, and carbon monoxide poisoning.
  • An outline of the cell danger response, a revolutionary model developed by Dr. Robert Naviaux that explains how the body essentially gets "stuck" fighting a threat even after the danger has passed.
  • A system-by-system plan for "rebooting" the body to break the cycle of illness and allow healing to begin.
  • Information about coping with stress and embracing an emotional and/or spiritual awakening on the path to wellness.

On the road to recovery, thanks to Dr. Nathan and the information in this book.

As someone who has been given back my life by Dr. Nathan, after close to two decades of being ill, I am extremely grateful that he has gathered all this knowledge for those of us who have become sensitive and toxic from Lyme and mold illness. I am one of those patients who spent years floundering, trying to get well and failing, while not being believed and being told that “it is impossible” for that small dose of X to have made me worse. Thank you to Dr. Nathan healing us, as well as championing us in this book. “Toxic” covers the missing areas that prevented me from healing after treating for Lyme. These were mold illness, mast cell activation syndrome, and the fact that I was what Dr. Nathan defines as a “sensitive” patient who couldn’t follow the usual protocols for treatment. Taking the small dosages that Dr. Nathan recommends has made the difference for me. I’ve gone from being completely housebound to feeling well. In this book, he covers his definitions of “toxic” and “sensitive,” covers mold, bartonella, MCAS, and porphyria, then spends the bulk of the book discussing “rebooting” the body’s systems that have gone awry as a result of these illnesses. These include rebooting the “cell danger response,” the nervous system (a lot of fascinating work being done!), the immune system, the endocrine system, the digestive system, the methylation pathways, and our ability to detoxify. He also discusses genetic predisposition to impaired detoxification, as well as the effects of illness on the mind-body connection. The appendix also includes helpful information on mold remediation and effective cleaning. “Toxic” is a good mix of readability and technical information, and he also provides references if you are interested in learning more about any topic. I certainly wish I had this book years ago, but I am so glad this information is being made available to patients and doctors now. It is also a beautiful book! I also like his message that if you are impaired in any of these areas, or have a genetic predisposition, and are currently unable to treat, it doesn’t mean that you’ll never get better. He provides a treatment order, so it is less overwhelming for your body. There is much to learn from this book, and I would encourage anyone interested to also check out Dr. Nathan’s website and the radio interviews provided at his site.

Excellent cutting-edge book

Excellent book on Mold Toxicity, Bartonella, Lyme, Rebooting the Nervous System, Methylation, etc. Cutting-edge information that is well written. One small caution. Although the book looks excellent, I initially found it impossible to read in its physical form. It outgassed in such a way that it made me feel sick. Within 20 minutes of opening it, I had a headache, nausea, and a runny nose. I am suspecting that it was the inks that were used on the shiny paper. [I have not experienced this before from a book, and I read a lot. I am NOT super-sensitive.] The book is physically beautiful, but I wish they had used a different printing process. This all seems so ironic, especially for a book titled "Toxic". Fortunately, after a few days of leaving it out in the open, I was able to read it for brief periods of time as long as I was in fresh air.

Who Should Read This Book?

As someone who has suffered from mold toxemia and multiple chemical sensitivities and whose wife has suffered through chronic Lyme and its coinfectants (with the usual cascade of effects: chronic fatigue, fibromyalgia, brain fog, anxiety, etc.), I have a deep stake in the research presented in this book. Most practitioners today have little understanding of chronic/complex illness and the protocols for diagnosis, much less for treatment. Mainstream allopathic medicine has no sure solutions of its own and, worse, remains occasionally suspicious of several of the techniques and technologies outlined herein. After all, these lie for the most part “outside of the paradigm” of mainstream medicine. My wife and I live where some physicians, thankfully, are open to new treatment possibilities; at the very least, they admit that they don’t have all the answers themselves. So, I return to my initial question: Who should read this book? Those who suffer from chronic/complex illness, of course, and those who care for them: that part of the answer is obvious. More importantly, it’s the practitioners across the country who treat you and yours who need this book. I address my fellow sufferers in mold, Lyme, MCS, etc.: give copies of Dr. Nathan’s book to your family physicians and to others who have tried to help but, lacking information on this latest research, have done little more than address symptoms rather than causes. Until the medical community comes to understand what a handful of researcher-physicians have discovered in their joint efforts at diagnoses/treatments, we’re doomed—doomed to an unrelenting suffering and loss of quality of life. And that “we,” those of us who have endured chronic/complex illness, grows with each passing month by the tens of thousands. I am not unfriendly to mainstream medicine, which has its dedicated professionals. What we need, desperately, is to expand the parameters of what is deemed “mainstream,” so that the techniques/technologies outlined in Dr. Nathan’s book become more widely understood and available. Information is key: since most practitioners lack the depth of information presented in Dr. Nathan’s book, how can they be expected to help? Put simply, they need to read this book, and someone has to put it physically in their hands. You should do it, gentle reader. Passivity on the part of patients contributes to the crisis. We need to advocate on behalf of our own medical needs. I suspect that most of us, at some point, came to realize that our family practitioners and even the local specialists were of modest help with our chronic/complex conditions, which caused us to become researchers in our own right. Likely, this urgency to self-research led you to Dr. Nathan’s book. When you read it, you’ll discover that it does not promise an easy fix: months and (for me) years of hard work may lie ahead. What it does promise is a coherent protocol for diagnosis/treatment that has proved capable of curing many who, otherwise, had given up hope. Toxic does not replace Dr. Nathan’s earlier work, Healing Is Possible. That previous book provides a protocol for rebalancing body chemistry in a world of depleted nutrition and environmental degradation/toxicity. Still, this latest book is so far advanced over previous discussions that it inhabits a universe of its own. That’s a bold claim, given that Toxic is a fairly slim volume written for an educated lay audience. (It wears its research lightly, in other words.) And, as Dr. Nathan’s list of “Suggested Reading” shows, most of the protocols were developed independently of each other. But that, in point of fact, is the brilliance of this book: having found a common thread in the dozen or so protocols that successfully treat mold, MCS, fibromyalgia, anxiety disorders, etc., Dr. Nathan demonstrates the underlying neurophysiological processes that each previous protocol addresses, in part, in its own way. The body is a self-regulating system: hence, its aim is homeostasis. But, as Dr. Nathan observes, the body is also self-protective, with specific defensive mechanisms operative in each level of organization, from intracellular to cellular to tissue to glandular to organ/organ systems to the whole organism. The parasympathetic nervous system is implicated in this continuous self-protective activity, which is largely “interpretive”: that is, the body “interprets” some agent or stimulus as invasive or threatening, which elicits a defensive/protective neurophysiological “response.” The body “sounds an alarm,” leading to changes in heart rate/blood pressure, hormonal balance, inflammation, etc. In each chapter within each discussion of specific conditions and treatment protocols, Dr. Nathan asks: What happens when the body can’t “turn off” its defensive “alarm” mechanisms—when a system gets stuck in fight-or-flight mode and can’t relax/restore itself? The first step in each case, as Dr. Nathan argues, is “to reboot” that specific system, restoring its sense of wellbeing—that is, of being “safe from harm.” In this respect, the “complexity” resident in treating chronic/complex conditions rests in retraining each system (neural, endocrine, gastrointestinal, etc.) to stop attacking itself, after which—given the right sorts of help—the body can restore its own healing response. Stress comes in many forms: emotional, nutritional, chemical/environmental, physical/traumatic. An invasion by mold or Lyme can push an overstressed body “over the edge,” from which it cannot restore its natural balances without an initial neurophysiological “reboot.” When you think about it, this concept is elegant in its simplicity. Stealing an Einsteinian phrase, one might call it “the grand unified theory” of chronic/complex illness. Note that Dr. Nathan’s book does not give the various protocols in full: rather, it takes readers through the first stages in gathering these protocols together, in explaining how and why they work, and in giving the resources for further reading and taking action. By the time you’ve worked through the whole of Dr. Nathan’s combined treatments, you’ll own a small library—and, one hopes, you’ll have shared that library with friends, family, and as-yet uninformed practitioners. For the record, I should add that I was under Dr. Nathan’s care more than a decade ago, when he maintained a private practice in Missouri. Several months before the writing of this review, a recurrence of symptoms led me to visit him in his clinic in California, where he gave me my personalized reading list. His book, Toxic, had not yet been released, but now I’ve read it and can give my response. Let me say, finally, that Dr. Nathan speaks and writes in the same voice. What you’ll get in this book will be as good as “a visit to the doc.” James S. Baumlin, Ph.D.

Probably worth reading

I am disappointed that with a topic like this, and considering his reading public, the choice was made to print on shiny, treated paper with toxic ink, when there is untreated paper and soy based low impact ink available. I am reacting badly to touching and breathing the book. I love Neil Nathan for the fact that he gets what low doses of supplements and IV's some of us can use, and that he starts VERY slow and does not shame the patient into enduring terrible "herxes", which may very well be an inability to detox and causing harm. Lots of good info on porphyria, mold, bartonella. He says very little about how a chemical injury can cause MCS and refers to it as a nervous system problem. It has been know since the 70's that toxic exposures can sensitize people permanently to the chemical that caused the problem and other chemicals. Very little research has been done to learn how to help people recovery their respiratory, endocrine, immune, and neurological function after a chemical injury. I was hoping this book would do more to address this issue.

An Excellent Book Based on Experience, Not on a Medical Fad

I have interviewed well over 100 integrative doctors and practitioners in my work as a medical researcher and writer, and I believe Dr. Nathan to be among the most wise, well-studied, experienced and humble. He is also honest and truly cares about his patients. What I love about Dr. Nathan's most recent book is that it isn't based on a fad theory in medicine, but Dr. Nathan's extensive experience in working with some of the most challenging chronically ill people around the world. The book is easy to understand and presents only the most vital and evidence-based information for those looking for better answers to the rampant problems of environmental illness, mold toxicity, Lyme disease and related conditions. It is backed by science but brain-fogged readers won't get stuck trying to wade through pages of research and scientific terms. Dr. Nathan writes succinctly, providing only essential information, and that I love. The work is also comprehensive, addressing every aspect of illness in people with mold illness, Lyme disease and related conditions. Yet it is not overwhelming, and the solutions Dr. Nathan provides are clear and easy to follow. What's more, he gives readers hope that they too, can overcome sickness caused by infections and toxins, because he has had incredible success in treating many sick people that other doctors had given up on, and the book contains testimonials of such people. Finally, and one of the things that I love most about this book - is that Dr. Nathan discusses WHY many chronically ill people fail to heal, despite apparently having received the best treatments, and provides some amazing cutting-edge tools for getting past the roadblocks to full healing. For instance, he describes how the body can get stuck in a protective mode called the "cell danger response" which occurs when a person has been sick for a long time, and how, by rebooting the various systems of the body after the toxins and infections have been removed, health can be fully restored. This is a novel topic that I haven't heard discussed much elsewhere, and it provides a solid reason for why people who have received years of treatment for Lyme, mold and related illnesses fail to fully heal. Oh, and the book contains lots of beautiful and informative diagrams, which makes for a delightful reading experience. If you battle a toxicity related illness, or undiagnosed chronic health condition of any kind, I highly encourage you to check out this book - it will change your life. - Connie Strasheim, Author, New Paradigms in Lyme Disease Treatment

A Roadmap from Toxicity to Health

This book came as a pleasant surprise and exceeded my expectations. Most books with a topic such as this, come with all text and leave you to picture the rest. The color, layout and infographics give a complete and complementary explanation to the topics being covered. It draws you into a conversation that Chronic Environmental Illness is something that can be understood and treated rather than labeled "as too complex to understand." Dr. Nathan clearly respects and honors the unique biology of each patient and has set out to learn from, and dedicate his life work to identify and treat mold toxicity, lyme disease, bartonella infection, mast cell activation syndrome, porphyria and carbon monoxide with the mind of a seasoned detective. With this approach, he uncovers and discusses a plethora of practical tools and treatments with results that give hope to anyone facing these often overwhelming illnesses. Speaking from first hand experience, I would not be today where I am without Dr. Nathan's persistence, compassion and determination. This book is the fruit of his tireless dedication to so many patients who have experienced healing and life under his care. This is not just another book on toxicity or environmental illness but a goldmine that any medical professional or patient will find as a game changer.

We are in an epidemic of chronic illnesses, and there is a solid way forward

We live in an ever-changing and increasingly complicated world that contains chemicals and technology that didn’t exist a couple decades ago. Commercial food production has changed drastically. Accordingly, patterns of illness change as new symptoms and syndromes appear. We are now in an epidemic of chronic illnesses that have in common various features of inflammation. This book describes how sensitivity and toxicity may result from a combination of genetics and the environment, and the cumulative and synergistic effects of the environment. In “Toxic: Heal your body from Mold Toxicity, Lyme Disease, Chemical Sensitivities, and Chronic Environmental illness”, Neil Nathan, MD presents valuable and new information about symptoms and causes of chronic illness. Many people have been ill for years not knowing why. This book is for them, their families, and their doctors. He ties together features of clinical scenarios with biochemical processes, which can become impaired due to toxins. He attempts to show what can be done to return these processes to approach normal. He refers to and draws from a groundbreaking paper from 2013 called “The Cell Danger Response”. He illustrates how basic biochemistry at the cellular level can get “stuck” due to toxins, and then relates that to what we may see or experience clinically. And how to think about fixing a chronic and maladaptive response. “Rebooting” is a concept he uses to address a feature of chronic illness that is central. Often the original triggering event causing the illness is no longer operative, yet the patient still suffers with symptoms. We begin by dealing with the toxins and infections, and then we find that the body has “somehow lost the ability to turn off the process that started the illness”. So, he looks at rebooting via systems such as the neurological, immunological, gastrointestinal. The sweet last chapters of this book deal with the importance of addressing mental, physical, spiritual and emotional issues to be addressed in conjunction with getting better. They “can promote or inhibit healing”. And the appendices and suggested reading are helpful. As both a physician, and a patient who deals with mold and other toxins, I am thankful to have this book to clarify and tie together the basic concepts of these complex issues. This is so far off the radar of what I learned in medical school; everything I know about this was learned 25 years post-education, and I believe it should be widely shared.

Not helpful!

I gathered that my symptoms were mold, but the book is full of interviews and the solutions they give you for Mold are The Shoemakers Protocol which are high priced prescription drugs like Cholestyramine. He doesn't give any clear cut solutions. Just basic stuff you can find on the internet and tells the reader to basically try these methods with your Doctor. Save your money on this book!

Overwhelming

Overwhelming. I do a lot of research and as someone treating Lyme and tissue damage, this book had a lot of information. Too much. So confusing. My problem was theres no way to know what pertains to you. Do you get expensive genetic testing maybe only to find out your normal? Do you automatically try one thing at a time? Forever? All of the chemical diagrams were impossible to understand. Do we really need to see those? It definitely wasnt user friendly. There was a lot of information about how to combat your disease but which do you do? How do you even start? Even a doctor would have to do a zillion tests to find your sensitivities and treatment. That would take years! And a zillion dollars. I just want to know how to detox my body and heal. This book is so complicated it stressed me out. I returned it.

Empowers Those Searching for Answers to Regain and Optimize Their Health

"Toxic: Heal Your Body from Mold Toxicity, Lyme Disease, Multiple Chemical Sensitivities, and Chronic Environmental Illness" is the book I wish I had when my personal health journey started almost 22 years ago. It articulately discusses key factors in chronic illness such as mold illness from water-damaged buildings, Lyme disease and co-infections such as Bartonella and Babesia, Mast Cell Activation Syndrome, Multiple Chemical Sensitivity, and many other key topics. As our environment becomes more toxic, we as a society become more and more unwell. This book offers an explanation for some of the most challenging health conditions. It further offers a broad toolbox of potential interventions that may support health recovery. The book empowers those searching for answers to regain and optimize their health. I can't remember that last time that I was as excited about a book as I am this one. Dr. Nathan is an incredible doctor who cares deeply about finding answers for his patients. He has spent his career exploring potential solutions, and he has so beautifully shared his knowledge and wisdom with all of us in his brilliant new book.

Struggling to Survive

A survivor of a 2000 mold exposure, this book would have been a God send, back then. For new "moldies," it is a God send I am sure. The problem isn't with the book, but with physicians who are clueless. It should take a patient years to find a doctor that can make an appropriate diagnosis. Not the author's fault, spot on, direct, and easy to read. Thanks to Dr. Nathan. And one last comment, Functional Medicine, holistic, and naturopath docs are usually out of our budget for folks who have lost everything to mold poisoning and other toxic situations.

So sad that the pages off-gas! So ironic. But great content.

I read the other reviews before ordering ... but should have heeded the warnings louder. The chemical toxins within these pages off-gas strongly. I can't read this book indoors at all or I get lightheaded, dizzy and a headache. I am so disappointed in modern publishers who use cheap toxic materials to manufacture books, especially in the health and wellness genre. The contents of the book are wonderful. I don't prefer e-books, but I definitely recommend that route if you want to read this book. 4 stars only because of the off-gassing. I give 1 star to the publisher and 5 to the author. But authors, too, need to start being more careful and insisting on quality materials.

Excellent resource!! On the cutting edge of chronic illness.

Dr. Neil Nathan's "Toxic: Heal Your Body from Mold Toxicity, Lyme Disease, Multiple Chemical Sensitivities, and Chronic Environmental Illness" is a fantastic resource for the canaries in the coal minds. If you are getting more and more severe, and increasingly debilitating symptoms yet you KNOW deep down that it is something you can overcome vs. a psychosomatic or 'autoimmune' type condition you owe it to yourself to get this book. Too often doctors today will be all science and no artistry. Dr. Nathan strikes the perfect balance in his approach. Depressed, anxious, or those with other mental health illnesses do not seek help, yet most average MD's will readily suggest it when their labs and imaging test reveal no answers. I know in my own experience even those who claim to know it all and investigate all functional issues often even get it wrong. If you are in the crowd of unexpectedly sick and healthy diet, hormones, exercise - (lifestyle + supplements etc.) have not worked keep reading... Likewise, if you find yourself extremely sensitive and have so many debilitating symptoms that affect so many DIFFERENT parts of the body, also, keep reading... Neil has pin pointed the leading conditions that create the root cause of these illnesses and outlined the successful treatments he utilizes for his patients. He routinely brings people back to health who would otherwise fade. Of particular note is his unique understanding of Mold Toxicity and treatment. There are so many good things in this book. I am extremely grateful for Dr. Neil Nathan and for his fabulous book.

A brilliant doctor offering empowerment and hope

This book has become "my bible" as I navigate healing from mold toxicity, multiple chemical sensitivity, and related chronic fatigue symptoms. The tone is one of compassion and respect, and the content is incredibly detailed and empowering for "the patient." Dr. Nathan is on the cutting edge of environmental physicians who recognize that our increasingly toxic world is making people ill, and with the tenacity of a sleuth who will not give up is determined to find ways to heal all the mysterious illnesses that are arising as a result of this pollution. His book is filled with hope for those of us on a healing journey from environmental illness, and in providing hope , it also provides comfort. I am very grateful for Dr. Nathan's brilliant commitment to helping "patients other doctors have given up on." As one such patient, finding his work has been life changing!

Thorough yet Clear Ideas for Patients and Practitioners

With "Toxic: Heal Your Body from Mold Toxicity, Lyme Disease, Multiple Chemical Sensitivities, and Chronic Environmental Illness" Dr Nathan does an amazing job of summarizing his many ideas for helping to diagnose and treat particularly toxic and sensitive patients. It is extremely helpful that he provides such thorough, clear, and up to date ideas for patients and practitioners. I think of how many "new" patients this book can help. These "newbies" will have many more pieces of the puzzle handed to them. They won't have to hear the damaging words "it is all in your head" so often, as the underlying physiological basis for their odd symptoms is being explored. Dr Nathan has found the delicate balance between "diving deep" into complex medical information and making a well written book that people can absorb easily, including patients with cognitive challenges. I think that conventional and integrative medical practitioners wanting to learn about environmentally acquired illness, or even those who have been exploring this area for some time, will find a good amount of new/actionable information here. Dr Nathan distills his many years of practice, sharing key "nuggets" of information that were found the hard way: lots of trial and error over a long period of time. He is expert at identifying patterns and connecting the dots between patient presentations (symptoms, history, diagnoses, etc) and a wide variety of helpful treatments. A handful of Dr Nathan's colleagues helped with the book and this diverse and growing team will continue to crack the code on these conditions and refine this new model for helping chronically ill folks, which is unfortunately a segment of the population that is forecasted to grow. Despite the title "Toxic", an open-minded, collaborative, and hopeful message is shared. I will be returning to this book over and over. It is great!

My Healing Bible

I couldn't wait to receive this book and dive right in. Compassionate and incredibly knowledgeable, Neil Nathan, MD helps explain my 30+ years of mysterious CFS/Lyme symptoms that kept getting worse. It's been less than a month and I am already improving by reading and following his suggestions. So grateful to have found Dr. Nathan and his new healing book! I highly recommend it!

Excellent most up to date treatment information

This books explains the illness and builds on the knowledge of Dr. Shoemaker and adds most current protocol methods that he and Dr. Brewer have used along with the founding protocols to keep moving the science forward as more information comes to light with recent research. I am living proof this science is real as I get better every day! There is no better book on this subject that I have read. I read pages 48-82 several times. I have willingly made my self a guinea pig and know this is true healing science, Western Medicine does not follow this but do NOT be afraid to be an independent thinker! Read this book if you are searching for answers, be prepared to look at family for similar symptoms if you have HLA DR or HLA DQ, telling them is like entering the twilight zone! None of you will ever view western medicine the same once your eyes are open! This is about healing, not symptom treating and big pharma! Also visit Great Plains Labs and watch webinars on mycotoxins and get urine testing done to start off with finding out exactly what you have been exposed to. Identify the source of exposure and stay away from it! Begin your journey to healing. Forget all those specialist, running from doctor to doctor, telling you nothing is wrong, don't even look back!!!

Best book on the subject — cutting edge therapies that really work.

Dr. Nathan treated me with many of the therapies in this book, and they work. He literally saved my life! I encourage anyone from the recent storm areas or who suffered or live in areas with water damage, fires, pollution, etc. to also get this book. Many of these chronic illnesses, can be more easily treated early. This book can save you a lot of suffering. And believe me that is a very big deal. Dr. Nathan does not add any treatment to a book unless it has worked for a significant portion of his clients, which is very rare imo.

Mold Will Kill You

I have worked in a building that makes me incredibly ill -- only in the winter once the heat in the building goes on and then all symptoms cease when the heat goes off in spring. It's a very old and cockroach infested building. The heating mechanism is water moving through pipes and blown out to heat/cool. I am 100 percent convinced mold is the issue. I now refuse to work in the building when the heat is on. About 25% of the people in the building have upper respiratory issues, sinus and ear infections, worsened asthma and allergies, etc. Reading this book confirmed my experience of being made sick by mold and the devastating consequences. So far, my life has been saved by Traditional Chinese Medicine. MDs have said, "Avoid the building," as if that was a solution. (I mean it is but not if you want your job or have to visit the building even once a week to meet with your boss, get things in your office, etc.) With few exceptions, every doctor I've seen in the last three years has treated me like I'm crazy. The doctor in charge of occupational health at our institution was actually one of the worst and most condescending. So this book is a godsend! Finally, another MD referencing the work of MDs saying what I've experienced: the Western medical tradition is not and has not trained doctors to recognize and treat Lyme disease let alone mold toxicity. You will find no help there unless you are able to locate a functional medicine specialist (not covered by insurance usually) or the very rare MD who knows anything about this. I highly recommend this book. I look forward to implementing its suggested solutions and will incorporate these into the TCM treatments that have for the last two years saved my life. As my TCM doctor said of a recent sickness from exposure to the building, "This is mold poisoning. It will kill you. I had a patient die from this." Thank you for this book, for validating my experience and offering solutions!

Toxic book

I have heard that this book is very good and I look forward to reading it, but the book itself is toxic for me. What were the author and publisher thinking – – or did they?

Pioneering, Empowering and Practical - Excellent Resource for Patients and Practitioners

I highly recommend this book to (all) physicians and to patients who have chronic complex illness. I wish "Toxic" was a required text in medical schools. This has been a great resource for me and the patients I see. While covering a lot of information, “Toxic” is well written, interesting and very practical. It is laid out nicely and has useful charts, for example, on which binders are most effective for removing specific mold toxins, as well as symptom lists that help differentiate between lyme, bartonella and babesia. Neil Nathan, MD is a gifted and compassionate physician and teacher who has generously consolidated what he has learned from his years of experience treating the most sensitive patients. I would expect anyone who has tried to understand mold toxicity, lyme or it’s coinfections, either personally or professionally, will feel very fortunate to have discovered this pioneering book.

Chronic illness? Buy this book

Dr. Nathan is an amazing doctor who is in it for the RIGHT reasons: to help, give hope, and heal the body. In the book, Toxic, he clearly explains that the main problem is that modern medicine does not recognize the real causes of Lyme disease and mold toxicity; therefore, doctors are inept at effectively treating it. His statements are poignant and valid. His detailed examples of patients and their frustration with regular physicians, and only being offered antidepressants, speaks to thousands in this time of Big Pharma making the decisions for our medical facilities. He took the time and energy to compile a highly educational, enlightening, and validating book that speaks to the heart and root cause of so many ailments that are made up, like fibromyalgia, due to the medical field not knowing the real cause. He gives suggestions to help heal yourself, as well as suggestions to seek from a professional, such as an LLMD. I am eternally grateful for the wealth of knowledge I have gained from reading this book. I am tired of doctors looking down at me from their ivory towers as if I can not read or understand what is going on in my own body. I have begun to heal, but it will be a long journey due to the damage imposed by previous medical care.

Easy Read and Very Imformative

This is a great book to help the people out there make streamline choices living with Lyme's. I am a holistic health care practitioner and I have all the equipment listed in this book and use these for my Lyme's and Cancer patients. I refer out for the IV's. We have to stop vaccines and the damages of the forever, never ending bad gifts they give to knock down our systems. Lyme's and the co infections are just another Jurassic Park experiment that we have all been lied to about and there are ways to work with what was created in destructive intention. This book is a superb guideline. Thanks so much for your awareness and devotion to help all our beautiful suffering communities.

Brilliant and insightful

I have read a great many books on Lyme and Mold illness looking for answers and insights . This book is my favorite and the most comprehensive . It's the one that I wish had been in my hands as an invaluable guide many years ago . Dr Nathan knows a thing or two ! He is a very gifted and experienced physician . He generously shares his deep wealth of insight garnered over a lifetime of treating the most sensitive and ill patients . Anyone struggling with Lyme and Mold illness would greatly benefit from his wisdom in knowing what to treat and in what order . He also highlights the main complicating factors preventing recovery . Navigating the world of Lyme disease and treatments can often feel like a confusing and overwhelming journey . This book provides a very clear and detailed map . Thank you Dr Nathan .

A must read for anyone suspecting or being diagnosed with Lyme, coinfections and /or mold illness

Extremely informative and valuable for anyone going down the Lyme/Mold rabbit hole. I wish this would have been available much sooner in my journey but am grateful to have it as a resource now.

Please order if you are struggling with Lyme parasites or mold poisening...

Excellent read for anyone who’s going through a toxicity crisis. Honestly if it weren’t for this literature I wonder if I’d have discoverrd myself and husband and child all had a parasite! Though it was just some crazy thing you see on TV. It changed our quality of life. It was terrible. Well discovering this book I began using natural approaches for toxicity. Within a week it was incredable what happened. I felt worse for a few days then noticed the critters in my sons bowel! Thank god for natural approaches and people who care enough to help. Great read! Oh and also I was loaded with mytoxins from black mold! It was in treating this we discovered another issue! Thank GOD I ordered this book!

A very important book for people who have become highly sensitive

I don't usually take the time to review books, but Toxic by Dr. Nathan is one that warrants some words of praise! I'm actually lucky enough to be one of Dr. Nathan's patients. I've seen my fair share of traditional doctors as well as functional practitioners before finally stumbling upon the work of Dr. Nathan. Nothing before starting to consult with Dr. Nathan had really moved the needle with my chronic health problems. Shortly after starting to work with Dr. Nathan, we were finally able to diagnose a much clearer picture of what hails me: lyme, bartonella and mold toxicity. The work on my recovery has just begun, and it'll for sure be a long journey ahead, but I'm already seeing signs of improvements and some new found vitality. A much needed change in the right direction after years of slowly fading away. I was ecstatic when I heard about his new book, Toxic. Anything I can read or listen to that helps me understand what's happening in my body and the best modalities to regain health is a godsend, and this book fulfills that in spades. Even though I'm already a patient of Dr. Nathan, this book still helped me a lot and gave me some additional ideas of things to try in parallel to the main treatment. It'll also be a great reference for years to come. If, like me, you've become chronically sick and sensitive to almost anything, this book should be your go-to resource! Dr. Nathan truly understands the intricacies that come with helping the most sensitive patients, and this book leaves no stone unturned.

Comprehensive protocol for healing from environmental illnesses

Dr. Neil Nathan has written a comprehensive book on the topic of healing from environmental illnesses that are not fully understood and acknowledged by the mainstream medical community. Anecdotal evidence suggests that the intensity, scope, and extent of these medical issues continues to grow. From personal experience, we know that Dr. Nathan is an extremely compassionate and excellent physician who is at the forefront of helping sensitive patients with difficult illnesses to diagnose and treat. That compassion and attention to detail is completely apparent in this book. Everybody should read this book, including those who are healthy, to understand what could happen given the present conditions under which we all live. For those who are ill, this is a detailed guide that provides the steps needed for healing to occur. It is an invaluable resource for all, that we highly recommend.

Great Book

This is a great book on the treatment of Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and like illnesses. What I especially loved about this book was how Dr. Nathan described his treatment of his most sensitive and toxic patients. I also appreciated his listing of the products he uses, and often the dosage used with these products. He also listed additional products that might prove helpful to CFS patients following Dr. Brewer's mold treatment protocol. As a long-time patient with CFS and Mast Cell Activation Syndrome, I couldn't recommend this book more highly.

This book has given me hope after years of suffering!

If you are suffering from Lyme disease, autoimmune diseases or desperately looking for answers to your REAL symptoms despite doctors claiming you’re “fine” get this book! First it’s a nice thick great quality book. I have only read the a short amount and and after the 1st chapter I felt like this book was written about me. I know there’s so many of us (or family members) desperately trying to get a diagnosis. For the first time in 4 years of sickness I see there is hope that I can get better and back to a normal life. I’ve had thyroid cancer, Fibromyalgia, Lyme disease & the coinfections, Addison’s disease and extreme sensitivities & allergies to countless foods & medications. I know how desperate we are to get healthy again and how we look “normal” to everyone else but if only they spent a day in our bodies they’d understand our suffering. This doctor genuinely cares and has helped so many like us get back to life even when illness had them in a wheelchair unable to move. It’s also a way you can have your loved ones read it and understand what’s really happening to you and hopefully able to be more supportive. I’m so glad I found this book and if you’re dealing with similar issues I really suggest buying it!

Fantastic book, puts it all together

I wish this book had existed 5-6 years ago when I was really sick with --??? CFS, Lyme, Adrenal, mold sensitivity -- I did soooo much research and spent soooo much money on practitioners and no one helped me put all the pieces together. Slowly, through months of internet research, I learned most of what is in this book, but this book is an indispensable resource and guide and will make life so much easier for people struggling now with these "mysterious" conditions. Plus it's affordable (unlike seeing Dr. Nathan or his colleagues in person.) I so appreciate him making all this info available. Can't recommend it more highly if you know anyone suffering from these mysterious pain, fatigue, sensitivity conditions.

Hope for Healing

As a person who has struggled with Chronic Fatigue and Mold Illness for well over a decade I highly recommend “Toxic Heal Your Body” by Neil Nathan. It is a road map, how-to guide for those seeking to heal from mold illness, Lyme disease and multiple chemical sensitivities. It fills a much-needed niche, one that has been missing for the evaluation and treatment of patients (like us), that don’t fit into the traditional system of medical care. In “Toxic”, Dr. Nathan has taken cutting edge protocols for these complex illnesses and organized this knowledge into an easy to understand format that can be applied both by people struggling with these health conditions and their treating physicians. It would be a helpful book for patients’ families as well. I found the sections particularly valuable that outlined: - how sensitivity develops in the body - how the body can get stuck in an alarm state after fighting a threat, and remain there after the danger has passed & - how to reboot the body to allow for healing - & how to reboot the spirit & the possibility for spiritual awakening as a result of having experienced chronic illness. This author has been a personal hero of mine since I first read his book “Healing is Possible” and sought out his treatment. His treatments work, I have experienced this first hand. I struggled with debilitating Chronic Fatigue for well over a decade which left me at times able to do very little & sometimes bedridden. Prior to becoming familiar with Dr. Nathan, I’d been to over forty medical practitioners with little to show for my efforts to get an accurate diagnosis and hence treatment that worked. Finding Dr. Nathan was like finding an oasis. Under his tutelage, with his books and treatment I have been able to one-by-one identify and address the underlying core issues causing my illness and begin the road to reversing them. Linda J Haynes Marin County, Calif.

Good read

If you're suffering from mold toxicity, I recommend wading through this one. It's written by a doctor for doctors, but it does lay out a lot of the symptoms and possible solutions for mold toxicity and really made it something that I could think with to help get rid of the toxins from my body and it made it easier to converse with my doctor who was helping me through this. Very informative.

If you have a chronic illness or if you’re a Dr who treats the chronically ill, buy this book!

Invaluable resource on teasing apart, prioritizing and treating mold, Lyme and co-infections. He has a thorough understanding of the various and maddening symptoms of all these various pathogens and toxins wrecking havoc in the chronically ill. Especially insightful regarding people who are very sensitive- those who can hardly tolerate the smallest amount remedies or meds., and people with MCAS. The Cell Danger Response info Is eye opening. With all of this knowledge, healing feels possible. This book is a gift.

Excellent very helpful book

It's incredibly hard to find anyone knowledgeable about what Mold Illness, MCS, CFS, Lyme, etc are, let alone one who understands how to treat them. Dr Nathan is a rare exception & this book is loaded with helpful information for those who not only have these illnesses, but who are extremely sensitive to most typical treatments. I highly recommend this book to both patients and doctors (& also to anyone who cares about someone with these illnesses who wants to better understand them).

Brilliant!!!

Dr. Nathan is one of, if not the, world's leading experts on Fibromyalgia and related complex processes. He has integrated the research and work I, and countless other experts, have spent lifetimes doing. This is a MUST READ!!!

Everyone will benefit from this knowledge! Will enhance your life!

This is a great read, a great study, a great reference for doing your own research! This is an essential if you want to understand the root causes to your health illness. It's better that you become knowledgeable yourself, as opposed to being in your doctor's office who may not be knowledgeable of how to help you. It'll prompt you to do more research, and understand how this toxicity is occurring in your body. For now though, ask yourself this, how much wireless technology are you subjecting yourself to? Love yourself! Know how to detox your toxicity.

Must Buy!!!

I cannot day enough about this book. It is one of the best books I own. Truly. I bought it after listening to Dr Nathan in a podcast on Lyme Ninja. He was able to articulate things so clearly. This book provides so many answers to questions. The information is invaluable. I was bitten by a tick carrying Bartonella bacteria, Epstein Barr-Virus, Anaplasma, Mycoplasma, etc. This book helped me understand how/why things were affecting my body. If your body has gone haywire, seems to be malfunctioning for reasons beyond explanation, & you can’t get answers from doctors, buy this book. I wish I could buy one for everyone that I know.

Wow, just wow. 1 million stars

After 7 years of severe illness and feeling like there’s nothing to live for I finally have hope. 8 years ago I started working in a work place that was loaded with mold. I never thought much of it. 7 years ago my downward spiral started until I couldn’t even get out of bed. I went to so many doctors it’s incredible but I never put 2 and 2 together. Didn’t even know you could get sick from mold. Well you can, And thank you doctor from the bottom of my heart for writing this astounding book. Can’t recommend it enough

Excellent Info, Spot-On

Dr Nathan's book was an answer to prayer for me. I am very reactive to foods after fighting a spider bite 5 years ago. I had no idea mild exposure could cause the problems I have on top of the Lyme like infections I have been fighting from the spider bite. His explanations in His book have helped me to be able to start treatment of their toxic build-up. I knew mild exposure was not good but never knew what mild could do to a compromised body. Dr. Nathan explains it in this book.

EXTREMELY INFORMATIVE

If you're like me and have been diagnosed with severe mold poisoning/illness, I think it is fair to say that you were overwhelmed and somewhat ignorant on the whole topic of toxicity. This book was recommended by my incredible doctor and it brought so much understanding to this whole topic. Its written with enough medical insight to make you feel comfortable in trusting the information, but also in a way that the non medical professional can really understand. It has been a life saver for me as I've journeyed on this crazy, misunderstood path. Invest in yourself and BUY THE BOOK!

Fills critically important niche

Dr. Neil Nathan’s book, Toxic—Heal Your Body, fills a critical niche in the evaluation and treatment of patients with mold illness, tick-borne illnesses, and chemical sensitivities. This is one of the most difficult, and widely misunderstood, areas of medicine, yet critical to so many patients in need. Dr. Nathan brings a clinical experience and expertise that is unmatched when it comes to multiple chemical sensitivities. If you are a patient with these problems or a practitioner caring for such patients, this is the most important book you will read this year.

Cutting Edge Treatment Information for Sensative Patients and Highly Complicated Illness’s

I highly recommend Dr. Nathan’s book” Toxic”, it is one of the rare books that provides more than the typical one or two pearls of new information that you receive from most books and webinars. Dr. Nathan’s book has an easy to read format that discusses chronic Lyme and co-infections, Mold, Mast Cell Activation, Multiple Chemical Sensitivities, Porphyria, rebooting the nervous system and many other important topics that could be the medical mystery that has kept you sick for so long. You will also find treatment protocols regarding what to take and how much and when to take it. As well, he includes the names of several cutting edge treatments and how to customize the treatments if you are highly sensitive. I can honestly say that I wish a book like this was available many years ago when I was first diagnosed; it would have saved me so much time and money. I am so thankful to Dr. Nathan for his quest to find answers for all of us who struggle with complex medical issues.

The truth about epidemic of toxicity and chronic illness

Having lyme and the other devastating tick borne co-infections, mold illness, heavy metals, and all the other toxins that go along with creating a toxic body, this brilliant author lays it all out in a easy to read format. Excellent resource for those suffering with "chronic illness" that mainstream medicine will not address. The landscape of medical school training is behind the times and is primitive at this point. This book and the epidemic of chronic illness is evidence of this.

Glad I Bought This Book

This is a great resource for those of us suffering from the illnesses listed in the title. Besides Lyme Disease, Dr. Nathan also talks about Bartonella. I also appreciate that the information is very current. Great book and easy to read.

The current state of the art in Functional Medicine

A tour-de-force review of the state of the art in Functional Medicine from the perspective of a brilliant practioner. Dr. Nathan focuses on how to treat Lyme and Mold toxicity as those are the most common problems of his patient population. Be prepared to learn a lot!

Well written and understandable

Bought this as a gift for a friend. I don’t usually give books that I’ve not read to other people but it was recommended by more than one author whose works I had read. Our friend was truly at a loss about symptoms he’d been having for much to long. His doctor thought lyme disease could be possible but didn’t have much knowledge about it. I remembered having read about this book and bought it for him a couple of months ago. He truly appreciates it and has implemented changes that are helping him build his system back up.

Brilliant roadmap for those dealing with complex chronic disease

Dr. Neil Nathan's "Toxic: Heal Your Body from Mold Toxicity, Lyme Disease, Multiple Chemical Sensitivities, and Chronic Environmental Illness" is a real treasure for the most complex patients who are suffering from chronic disease. Dr Nathan is a one of kind of a doctor who on top of his 40+ years of experience, is constantly learning and digging deep in order to be able to help the sickest of the sick. He is a doctor who really listens and learns from his patients and is on top of the cutting edge of science. This book brilliantly outlines a road map to healing and recovery based on Dr . Nathan's experience and knowledge. It is written in such a away that will appeal to both patients and health care providers.I am really impressed by the way in which Dr. Nathan has managed to cover such complex topics in a crystal clear way. The book is not only fascinating and full of knowledge , but also gives practical tools to healing. I am a patient of Dr. Nathan, and I am always highly impressed by his deep knowledge, his true compassion, and his brilliant and thoughtful way of treating his patients. He is a rare doctor that never settles for band-aid solution and always strives to find the true source of illness and the best solutions for each individual patient. I highly recommend this book to any patient dealing with complex chronic illness as well as to their care-givers and health providers.

Recommended by my Dr.

This is a great book. It was recommended by my Dr. for issues relating to Lyme Disease and Mold Toxicity causing Multiple Chemical Sensitivities. I gave my copy to a coworker who is struggling with similar sensitivities after a mold exposure. I also purchased the kindle edition so I would have it on my phone and be able to reference it with quick keyword searches. For those struggling with similar issues I wish you the very best.

Great ideas for chronic illness fighters

A must read for anyone struggling with chronic illness. So much great info in here. Doctors are not trained to treat chronic illness which is terrible. It’s not easy to read but even for us normal non doctors the info that you can understand is invaluable. Great ideas of things to consider in your treatment including blood tests to run. (Many I’ve been doing for years and so many stupid doctors have told me they don’t know what they are or see a need. Just upsetting). Arm yourself with a wealth of information so you can be your own advocate.

Amazing Doctor and wonderfully informative book!

I have been a patient of Dr. Nathan for many years and his latest book is my favorite. Very insightful and helpful for anyone who is struggling to get better from chronic illness. Aspire to reach better health and don't settle for less! Help is out there. Read this book, dig deeper, and never give up on health! Dr Nathan provides insightful and helpful knowledge.

Where to find errata? Or am I reading wrong?

Wonderful, comprehensive. I have a few small questions, unless I read it wrong. The keto diet is not low in amino acids, is it? I didn’t quite follow all of the therapeutic? carbon dioxide sentences. Are leftovers themselves high in histamines? How do they acquire histamines? I thought probably they tend to start to grow slight invisible mold, and then I have mast cell reaction to that? Or the leftovers turn slightly into AGEs? (Advanced Glycation End products)

The only book you need to reverse health after mold!

The information and order of operations laid out in this book will surely be the thing that saved my life. After a decade or more of severe health issues and no progress, this book shows up and everything changes. I have followed the steps exactly and finally got a positive mold test as well as positive Marcons test and started the supplements in the right order. I am hopeful for the first time in a decade! If you have Mast Cell Activation, Lymes, mold toxicity or porphyria this book is all you need! I’ve read every other book out there and this is the only one that helped!

Extremely insightful

If you are suffering from any form of toxicity this book is the latest in helping put the pieces of these complicated illnesses together. It is a bit technical and hard to follow in places. However, if you have been suffering for years with these issues you have had to learn much technical medical jargon.

Excellent Guide to Treatment of Mold Mycotoxin Sensitivity

I consider this to be one of the best books about treatment of mold mycotoxin sensitivity on the market. The author is an MD with impeccable credentials. It is my go-to book when I have a question about mycotoxins.

Good With A Proviso

The chapter on porphyria made this worthwhile in a way. It led to the Porphyria The Ultimate Cause book by Professor Steven Rochlitz at his own site. That book was immensely helpful.

Excellent

Great so far. Very informative and helpful! I trust this doctor. He definitely understands this horrible mold epidemic plaguing so many people.

Valuable information

Wonderful book. Helps to understand myriad complex issues and interrelationships. Not sure if values a healing guide, but great addition to other literature.

This book is FABULOUS!

The most simple to understand book to read and apply a protocol that you feel is safe, and this is so important from everything I read about this illness. A big Thank You! to Dr Nathan a man that experienced this illness first hand and has helped many people regain their life back. He loves to be able to direct us into what we can do to help ourselves. There are a lot of doctors out there giving hope to people that are hurting but they are also taking them down a long costly and unnecessary treatments. The book is very nice with a coating that protects the pages. There was love putting this book together and I am so impressed and pleased to find a genuine heart that really cares! Diana N

WOW!

Dr Neil Nathan is a saint. After five years of hell, he has hit the nail on the head to heal. TY!

Just buy it, will change your life

I’ve been in this game of trying to heal from chronic Lyme/mold for ten years. I’ve spent a lot of money and time trying out the latest cutting edge treatment. THIS book is everything!!! It changed my life. Finally feel like I’m on a good path and he breaks it all down so clearly and with humor. I learned sooo much and I thought I already knew it all.

Great book to read if you suspect mold or Lyme!

Dr Nathan knows what he is talking about and this is a great book for dealing with mold exposure or a Lyme infection.

Common Sense

Dr. Nathan takes a common sense approach to treating an illness. He looks for the source rather than just treat the symptoms.

Easy to understand information

I read every book I find that contains info about Lyme and mold treatments. This has great information written in easy to understand terms.

Well researched, high quality book

Excellent, detailed, and easy to understand book. Good, honest approach and info to deal with mold toxicity.

Helpful guide

This book reminds me a little of Unlocking Lyme by Bill Wrals. It's a comprehensive guide that you will go back to reference on many occasions. Though Dr. Wrals did not spend enough time on the mold piece. It's an importan one if you're trying to heal from Lyme disease.

Bought two, one for me and one for my Primary Dr. He is very open minded and was interested in the affects mold has on patients with MCAS.

Best Lyme/Mold illness book I have ever read

This book does an especially good job of describing how people who have dealt wit Lyme or mold illness for many years can become hypersensitive anything from fragrances to EMFs. Dr. Nathan is very helpful in laying out specific treatment plans.

Best book I've read on mold & chronic illness

i am totally impressed that he stresses the importance of addressing the body's detox abilities etc BEFORE treating mold & Lyme & coinfections.

This book has been LIFE CHANGING!

Not only has it been life changing, but eye opening and extraordinary helpful since most, if barely any, physicians know how to treat these types of conditions. I'm extremely blessed and grateful to have come across this book! God Bless Dr. Neil Nathan!

Many great helps for being Toxic

Good read, well worth the money.

Everything you need to know about mold toxicity!

Absolutely the best book to read if you have mold toxicity! Neil Nathan lays it all out, from why this is happening, the bio pathways of the toxins, and how to heal almost step by step. It’s been my bible while struggling with mold. If only every doctor read this book, so many of us could be diagnosed quickly instead of suffering for years!

Using the information like gospel.

Easy to read, extremely educational and solution oriented. I now know clearly what I had already known, I really am sick, highly sensitive and there is a way to recover from mold toxicity and all the ramifications it causes within our bodies . Knowledge is power.

Thank you!

I am so very thankful for Dr. Nathan and his caring approach to a very misunderstood silent epidemic. He combines good science with deep insight and understanding. I am not alone!

disappointed

too techinical. need a medical degree

For MDs, the ill, & everyone else

At last someone sees the big picture of illness dismissed by the mainstream. Incorporates medical breakthroughs of the last few years- Naviaux, Bredesen, etc- for treating the canaries in the mine. I just wish it included a treatment flowchart.

How mold toxicity affects Lyme - very very informative!

As a Lyme sufferer this is one of the best books I’ve ever read. Very informative and explains Lyme in a way any pay person can understand.

Best of the best

Best book on the topic, period. I wish I had this book years ago, as it would have saved me a lot of time and money—and helped greatly in healing. Dr. Nathan is one of the best in the field.

Although a competent MD, Neil Nathan lacks compassion as claimed on the book cover

The book is interesting and helpful. What troubles me is that as a former patient of Neil Nathan I found that he was totally lacking in compassion and was quite cruel in his words and actions, contrary to the statements on the book cover. When I was dying of jawbone infections, due to a botched root canal, he yelled at me and treated me with cruelty. I had done nothing to deserve being treated that way. Also, Neil Nathan had previously recommended an incompetent dentist that harmed me and many others causing the dental board to force that dentist to leave the state. If not for that dentist I never would've lost my health. Now, I'm permanently disabled, lost my business and family.

Must read for those with chronic illness

Very informative on topics that are infrequently discussed. Opens your eyes to a number of non traditional treatments and causes of illness.

Doctor recommended

Very good book about detoxing the safe way

Everyone needs this book.

My toxicologist recommended this book. It is very helpful. I would recommend this book to all, it is imperative that more people understand how toxics effect our body and environment.

Mould toxicity and other toxins... often lacking key details

Neil Nathans book on Toxins is informative... but it's often lacking key details that can make it hard to understand. The book spends a fair bit of time talking about molecules of various types... but often doesn't clearly define them e.g. A methyl group is just -CH3. Spelling it out that way makes it easy to understand and remember. A hydroxyl (-OH) is likewise quite easy to remember. The book is peppered with unexplained details. It mentions hydroxyl-B12 (OH-B12) at least twice... but doesn't explain why they chose that particular form. On p226 hydroxl-B12 is mentioned in the section on methylation. Why wasn't methyl-b12 (CH3-B12) used? Does the hydroxyl (-OH) form give some benefit the methyl (-CH3) form doesn't? Why not use the cyano-B12 (CN-B12) form? The cyano (Cyanide) form of B12 is by far the most common form. The cyanide probably makes sick people feel worst? Worth mentioning? N.B. The hydroxyl form is much harder to buy than the methyl form of B12. A picture/Diagram is worth a thousand words? The book has a number of useful pictures in it. The picture of the typical bullseye Lyme tick bite is great. Also the picture of the Borellia (Lyme) spirochete is much appreciated. It's always surprising to read a book on Lyme disease only to find that there isn't even one picture of the Lyme bacteria. However a few more diagrams wouldn't go astray? In a book largely on mould toxins why isn't there isn't even one diagram of the toxins that are causing all the problems? i.e. Ochratoxins, Aflotoxins, Tricholothecenes and Gliotoxins. Diagrams can provide a number of insights into how the toxins work and thus how they can be treated e.g. Gliotoxins are amphiphilic (fat and water soluble) and contain sulfur. This might explain why an amphiphilic anti-oxidant like Alpha Lipoic Acid (ALA) would work? ...and why an anti-oxidant that is only water soluble (Vitamin C?) wouldn't be very effective? The same section on mould toxins is quite frustrating because it mentions the normal range of every toxin except Aflotoxin. Please break that information out into a table so we know what the normal levels should be? Please draw a diagram of the free radicals? Superoxide(O2*), peroxynitrite (OONO*) and Hydroxyl (OH*) and break them out into a box of their own? While EMF gets a mention the discussion lacks detail. Low frequency, Radio Frequency and Microwave frequencies should be mentioned specifically... as typically people with sensitivities tackle one of these... while often ignoring the others (often only addressing the least troublesome one). This is why they often fail to improve. EMF effects on calcium should be mentioned... as this provides the mechanism for their action... and immediately suggests potential counter measures. EMF should probably get its own chapter? Cytokines get mentioned repeatedly but the discussion lacks detail. Cytokines can be really useful at proving to your doctor that you really do have something wrong with you. Listing the cytokines and which ones can be elevated with different types of conditions would have been really useful... as this information is really hard to find... and your local GP or specialist probably won't know? One thing the book desperately needs is a list of abbreviations in the appendix. It is often hard to remember abbreviations so you spend a fair bit of time going backwards and forwards trying to find where they are defined. This is frustrating and makes it much harder to read the book. Typically authors forget to define an abbreviation before using it at least once or twice in a book... making it even harder to work out what they're saying? Putting in a list of abbreviations in an Appendix greatly simplifies the process of looking them up. It's also good practise to write the abbreviation out in full a couple of times in a long chapter... just to remind the reader? The reference section quite good... but it isn't until you look in the Appendices that you even realise it's there. It would be better to use superscript numbers in the body of the text to indicate the references. Then it would be easy to realise that a reference exists and to find it? Ch13 starts off with a major series of typo's... where Lectins and Leptins are confused. The body makes Leptins... not Lectins! The book uses a san serif font which will reduce comprehension significantly. Use a serif font like times to significantly improve comprehension? Refer readability research. The Index is missing a lot of search terms. Bulking it out a bit would make it easier to find words. You know you read it somewhere... now you can't find the exact page? This is frustrating and time consuming. Overall a good book with plenty of information but it needs a bit more polishing and organisation. :-)

Brand new... as described

Still need to read! But fast shipping, brand new book as described.

perfect condition

Nice book

Contains cutting edge information, very helpful to patients and medical practice, and a few concerns

Dr Nathan's fantastic book is at once informative, cutting edge, I believe (I am not a doctor) contains very real breakthrough information, and I believe it can only be very helpful to the world of patients and medical practice, both alike. It fills a much needed gap: Doctors whose medical training may not include certain illnesses such as multiple chemical sensitivities (MCS) and other complex illnesses, may be inclined to label patients as psychiatric "cases". Dr Nathan stresses compassion and urges other doctors Not to do this, educating doctors about the very real physiology and underlying causes, while offering many solutions. Good man, gratitude! The book is written in very lay-friendly style as well, empowering patients under the care of their doctors, who may be educated by the facts in this book, to take increasing responsibility for their own health and progress. We have to deeply thank and applaud Dr Nathan! There is one area that the book addresses, concerning interpersonal relationship patterns between doctors and patients, that is not a straight shot and contains two sides of the story: That of the patient and of the doctor. The needs of the two sides may conflict: In writing about this, I hope to present both sides as fairly as I can. It is this area, admittedly complex and needing validation on the one hand, but remedying on the other, that has me giving the book three stars instead of five. I would otherwise, never even hesitate to give this book a well deserved TEN stars if I could! I present my concerns and requests here, as my own opinion, not that of Amazon or anybody else. My writing may not be taken out of context or presented in that way, I do not consent to this and never did. I deliberately seek to do a balanced review as reader, and authorize only the full context being represented. This may not be quoted or excerpted, only the full context may be represented. When Dr Nathan writes about certain patients who he says may be seeking attention, being "notchers" (how many doctors have they seen without success ,and going on to see many others?) and being demanding, etc he writes to other doctors who are readers, "seek out healthier relationships". It must be very hard for doctors, and they surely must have many frustrations in their work. To air the frustrations, can only educate patients to be more cooperative, to balance the need for help with considerations for a doctor's time, and to take their treatment seriously. I believe those concerns, to be fair to physicians, may be absolutely valid....in many, but also to stress, not in all, cases. To let patients know, is important. Communication is key. (That also implies, that the patient has the right to weigh in with their own needs as well. Communication, by definition, always goes two ways!) But that is exactly the point I wish to make: About communication, not urging doctors to turn patients away, is key. If doctors become frustrated, I suggest deeply that they let patients know and give them a chance to work together in ways that **mutually**, are most productive and health-producing. That is only fair enough. What is not fair to patients, may do them a very deep disservice, and also may result in less spreading around of the much-needed information in this extremely important book, is that patients may feel uncomfortable with the suggestion that doctors may reject them as patients. This is not right and in my opinion, because patients can be harmed for lack of medical care, it should not be legal to turn patients away based on interpersonal concerns alone. This is a statement that I deeply considered before posting to the internet. Further, I will write that I am concerned that medical practice is over-regulated. Doctors it would seem, may no longer be free to practice medicine per their best judgment, addressing individual patient's needs, bowing instead to cookie cutter standards and government threats (some lyme doctors have been persecuted, prosecuted and had their medical licenses taken away, based on government over-reaching regulation and over-reaching activity. This is an act of tyranny, dictatorship and must never be allowed in the Land of the Free. Further, I believe it is doctors who practice with the patient hands-on, not the remote government, who is in the best position to make medical judgment calls, per individual patients' needs. Cookie cutter standards end up being less-than- protective of patients., due to lack of information about individual needs, overlooked medical underpinnings, and especially the inhibition of the medical freedom of doctors to make personalized judgment calls. I am concerned about over-regulation, but also must say again that I believe it is not to the best interest of patients, nor is it compassionate as stressed in this book, for doctors to be able to turn them away based on interpersonal matters alone. Surprise: Not every doctor can know it all! To ask Any Doctor to know Everything about medicine is asking the impossible and the inhuman. I can not make any definitive statements, not being a doctor, but am free to ask the question: Could it be that Dr Nathan, may also be missing some underlying causes because they go outside his own area of medical specialty, that contribute to the very real medical needs of patients? Those who he considers "Notchers" and complainers (by translation), may even be presenting symptoms based on underlying causes that as a human physician, with very shrewd and cutting edge insights, even Dr Nathan could be missing? Might they not be responding to treatment because they need a different approach, no matter how shrewd Dr Nathan is? Does that of necessity, make them moaners, complainers and rejects? Could he too be misunderstanding some patients and unfairly labeling them? How does it support the Hippocratic Oath, "First Do No Harm", to instruct other doctors, to turn patients away? This part of the book, is bad news for some perhaps misunderstood patients. My suggestion is for Dr Nathan to revise this section of the book which to be fair as before, also airs some very important concerns. And perhaps he is right, maybe some patients are in need of instruction how to be easier to work with, to take increasing responsibility for their own care and improvement, and to let them know is only to do them a much needed service. Then again, doctors may also be in need of instruction, when to balance their concerns for their time, with the very real medical needs of the patients. On this human journey, I believe Every Single Human Being--- this includes doctors, patients and regulators all alike--- can stand to improve in certain areas. I think it is important, terribly important, for doctors to have the freedom to voice their concerns, their frustrations, and the need to have them addressed is real. Over-regulating to the extent of silencing such a voice, would be wrong, even an act of dictatorship, the quelling of free speech. (I am not a lawyer). I thank Dr Nathan for writing this book and presenting its deeply insightful and informative contents for the better health of patients and the improved practicing of doctors, both alike. It is an important work with what seems to be very new, deeply enlightening information based on which, doctors can be more helpful and fair to patients. Bravo Dr Nathan, and many thanks! I believe this book will greatly benefit the world of medical practice and the wellbeing of patients. Gratitude! (EDIT/ ADDENDUM) It strikes me in retrospect, as surprising that Dr Nathan would write in this book, that people can get well from lyme disease, which involves strong toxic lyme die-off responses, given compromised methylation, ie faulty detoxification. Dr Nathan says that lyme feeds on the methylation chemistry. Yet, given chemical sensitivity, which is rooted in detox compromise, then how can a patient possibly get well if this is not dealt with, first? Then he also writes, in the same book, that doctors should seek out other healthier relationships with patients, refusing medical treatment for those who he calls "notchers" who allegedly brag about how many doctors they have seen unsuccessfully ,unable to get well. The thoughts and assumptions that we make ,and we can be so unfair to people as we do so! I ask: Why would patients be proud of this , anyway? Aren't they merely voicing very deep frustration, even inner pain, not being 'Notchers"? Frankly, I do not think chemically sensitive patients even possibly can get well, when methylation has not been dealt with ahead of time. They are roadblocked, not moaners! It seems that a layer by layer treatment plan is needed, but It really does strike me as unkind to label chemically sensitive people moaners and notchers, when the roadmap may even not be set up to help them. It is unethical to suggest doctors turn patients away from medical treatment, simply because he himself got frustrated with those patients. This is not right.

Excellent resource for practitioners or patients.

Dr Nathan has taken a topic that has perplexed patients, and is unknown by most medical practitioners and presented it in a very easy to understand format. It is very well researched and backed by good science. This is a lot of new science and changing rapidly. The number of patients with complex medical problems and sensitivities is growing rapidly. We cannot treat treat 21st century medical problems with 20th century medicine. This is truly 21st century medicine. Dr Nathan has presented this in a way to enlighten medical providers, as well as give hope and guidance to patients suffering with a seemingly complex group of symptoms without a known cause.

Excellent!

This superb book by Dr. Neil Nathan is a must-read for anyone suffering from mold toxicity, Lyme disease, multiple chemical sensitivities, chronic environmental illness, fibromyalgia, or myalgic encephalomyelitis/chronic fatigue syndrome. These difficult-to-treat diseases, which are often ignored or dismissed by mainstream medical practitioners, present a challenge to any physician, but it is a challenge that Dr. Nathan meets with in-depth knowledge, compassion, and common sense. In addition to the above diseases, Dr. Nathan also discusses the important role of mast cell activation, porphyria, and carbon monoxide, the three “elephants in the room.” His discussion of mast cell activation syndromes, which he finds in half of his patients suffering from unusual sensitivities, is particularly enlightening. He not only presents symptoms and signs to look for, but how MCAS is diagnosed and treated. Dr. Nathan brings his decades of experience to bear by explaining how toxins can interact to produce a multiplicity of disease states simultaneously. His clear and concise explanation for how environmental diseases become chronic is the best I have ever read. In some individuals, toxins are not eliminated through normal channels. Instead, the toxins, once they are attached to bile, are recycled, sent back to the liver when the bile is reabsorbed in the large intestine. This would account for why people with exposure to mold, for example, do not recover after a single course of treatment. People with any of the illnesses covered in this book will be delighted to find detailed descriptions of how Dr. Nathan and other experts in this field treat these diseases. Not only does Dr. Nathan offer a treatment blueprint for each disease, he provides many additional resources, as well as direct commentary by expert physicians. His bottom line is that it is not enough to kill infections, or rely on strict avoidance. Toxins must be safely removed. The underlying theme, namely chronic inflammation, is addressed in this context. Dr. Nathan’s chapters on” rebooting” as a model for treatment and healing are a goldmine for people seeking an effective long-term treatment strategy. One of the most valuable takeaways from this book is Dr. Nathan’s sensible approach. Dr. Nathan takes “First, do not harm” seriously. Patients with environmental illnesses can be exquisitely sensitive, which means treatments must be started at miniscule doses, and proceed slowly. If a patient feels worse, stop. Why insist that a patient “push through” if it only leads to increased symptoms? This is so sensible, and so obvious, I am left wondering why more physicians don’t adopt a more gradual approach to treating environmental diseases. Dr. Nathan’s conversational writing style makes this book a pleasure to read, despite the complexity of the topic. He increases the accessibility to lay readers by including helpful diagrams and graphics that convey information visually, as well as side notes that neatly summarize points. This is a book to keep by your bedside. You will want to refer to it often.

The best Mold/Lyme book out there

This book is PHENOMENAL. So comprehensive - like all the info you ever learned from Shoemaker and Klinghardt websites in one big book. Tons of biochemical pathway info and charts, new treatments, updated testing, gives you such a feeling of validation and hope. IF YOU NEED TO EXPLAIN WHAT YOU HAVE TO FAMILY THIS IS THE BOOK. (Edit: I wrote this review under Kindle but I actually have the paperback and love it- big-335 pages - easy to highlight things.)

Wonderful Resource for people with Mold and other chronic "mystery" illnesses

As a physician who has struggled for 10 years with my own chronic mold illness that traditional Western medicine failed to help treat, I am extremely grateful for the work of Dr. Neil Nathan in getting the word out about Mold Illness and the many other confounding conditions that we mold patients struggle with. Dr. Nathan's recent book, "Toxic," provides a thorough, well-explained, and clinically masterful summary of the current cutting edge of knowledge regarding the diagnosis and treatment of Mold illness and related conditions such as Lyme, Bartonella, Multiple Chemical Sensitivities (MCS), Mast Cell Activation (MCAS), Toxin exposures, Methylation challenges, etc. Not only does Dr. Nathan provide a thorough description of treatment options and step-by-step ways to reboot the various body systems impacted by mold, he also gives us HOPE that our health can and will improve with persistence and the help of a comprehensive and gradual approach like he offers. Even the most sensitive and reactive patients can benefit from his gentle and individualized approach. Kudos to Dr. Nathan for offering this brilliant and hopeful guide to the many patients who suffer from this chronic, debilitating, and often misunderstood illness. I highly recommend this book to both doctors attempting to treat and patients suffering from these conditions.

For patients who haven't been helped by either conventionl nor integrative medicine

Toxic is Dr. Nathan's most comprehensive book to date on what he has spent the last 40 years doing--finding ways to help people with complex chronic illnesses, may of which are not yet known or accepted by mainstream medicine, and certainly not taught about in medical schools or residency training programs. There is also frequently a complex mix of these conditions, such as mold, Lyme, Bartonella infection, mast cell activation syndrome and secondary porphyria. Even as a board certified hematologist/oncologist, secondary porphyria was a condition new to me (and hematologists are considered the experts in diagnosing and managing porphyrias). Also, unique to Dr. Nathan's book is the crucial information regarding the 'rebooting' of may systems of the body, after doing the repair work, such as limbic system retraining, which has dramatically helped my 26 year old son, after years of chronic fatigue, working on mold, Lyme, and mast cell activation syndrome (Dr. Nathan was the first clinician to suggest testing our son for mycotoxins, which were strongly positive). I can't recommend this book highly enough. Integrative physicians will find it extremely useful in helping those difficult cases that they haven't been able to make much headway with.

Wonderful for One New Thing

I’ve read several of Dr Nathan’s books. They’re good. This one mostly repeats his earlier books on Lyme and mold. But there’s a chapter in here that was on a new topic for me. It contains a synopsis of the work of Dr Steven Rochlitz on Porphyria. Dr Rochlitz in fact wrote several books on porphyria. The main one is titled Porphyria: The Ultimate Cause of Common, Chronic and Environmental Illnesses, with Breakthroughs in Diet, Supplements and Energy Balancing at his wellatlast site. This work does indeed supersede the Lyme and mold information and following that book’s recommendation finally led to so much improvement in my food and chemical sensitivities and my chronic fatigue. In addition to having been diagnosed with Lyme disease and mold toxicity, I also have MCAS. Here too Dr Rochlitz shows how porphyria—which he has asserted is a common and not a rare disorder with many references to back him up—causes the MCAS. Both these wonderful authors are older now. But after reading, I found consult with Dr Rochlitz affordable and helpful. I am so glad that this book by Dr Nathan included a bit of the work of Dr Rochlitz on porphyria. That’s what was new here and helpful in leading me forward. I thank both these doctors.

Provided the Encouragement I needed to Succeed

I have to write a note on how important this book was for me. I read it at the suggestion of my Integrative Medicine doctor who I have been seeing for about 10 years to address a myriad of problems that cropped up post menopause. I read the book, and most did not apply to me, but I developed a respect for the authors work and experience. Fast forward one year. My doc suggested a therapy called DNRS which addresses a limbic system injury. We were, at that point, at a loss for the reason for my daily crashes of fatigue and pain (15 years duration). It sounded like a long shot to me, and kind of silly if I can be candid. I went back to Nathan's book and read about his experience with it. I decided to try it because of what he'd written. It was the key to my recovery. Very grateful. LIMBIC SYSTEM INJURY/NEUROPLASTICITY -- consider it. All best wishes.

Missing Link

This book filled in missing info on mold and mast cell from my reading on lyme and bartonella. He also seems to understand why some of us are more sensitive to treatment, which describes my journey well and how to deal with that. Have not found such a good but brief explanation elsewhere. Have read Horowitz, Rawls, and Mozyanei's books. Tried Shoemaker's book and found it too dense. This fits that mold void and more. Revolutionary info on chronic fatigue syndrome. Must read. Very easy to understand and informative. Highly recommend. Neil Nathan seems compassionate and insightful and is paving the way for what I hope will be a better standard of care in the near future. (I have the paper not kindle and recommend that as you will want to refer back)

Clear, concise and humble

I am one of the multitudes of people who have been struggling with chronic symptoms that do not fall into patterns that are easily diagnosed. This book may hold some answers for those who are in this growing group. It explains in a clear and concise way both the mechanisms of these illnesses and the possible treatments. My feeling while reading this was that my experience was being described in these pages. The writing is clear and concise though it can get a little technical in parts and is aimed at both patients and practitioners. I appreciated this doctor’s humbleness. He is very transparent about how much is unknown in this new field of functional medicine. His honesty goes a long way towards me trusting what he does say. I would highly recommend the book to those who are searching for answers. But as with anything in the area of medicine, read critically and find a practitioner who can direct you if you decide to pursue this route.

EXCELLENT, MUST-READ BOOK!

This is hands down the best book I've read this year. It is full of information from a BRILLIANT, HIGHLY EXPERIENCED CLINICIAN (MD) that is worth its weight in gold! It is informative for both healthcare practitioners and laypersons, chalked full of highly innovative and strategic methods for healing. Neil Nathan, MD is breathes life back into medicine and this book is a reflection of what a gift he is to this world!

FROM A PHYSICIAN

I'm the founder and medical director of one of the largest integrative medical centers in the Midwest. During the past 25 years, we have treated hundreds of patients with Lyme and co-infections, toxic mold, fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue. I am endlessly asked what book I would recommend to explain the mystery of these conditions. With "Toxic," I now have that book. As a medical writer myself, I can differentiate good clear writing from writing that begs for an editor and frankly some of the top names in these fields may be good researchers but are dreadful writers. Dr. Nathan is a joy to read!

Medically Unexplained Symptoms: don't be shunted to mental health specialists.

If you have been to a flock of physicians and other clinicians and haven't gotten an answer to the significant symptoms that you are experiencing, this is the book for you. It is geared to those patients that want to find out in what direction to go; tick born disease, mold toxicity, metals, multiple chemical sensitivities etc. Dr. Nathan provides a virtual road map to your health by explaining the cause, effect and treatment strategies. By being armed with this information, you as a patient can seek out those clinicians who will understand your needs and apply the appropriate treatment. It is certainly worth the money and will save you time in identifying your condition.

Brilliant book about some very complex topics

This book should be mandatory reading for every single medical professional. It's some very complicated topics and vastly under-diagnosed / misunderstood conditions but Dr Nathan explains it very well. Great book if you or a loved one deal with chronic health issues - conditions such as mold disease or Lyme a misdiagnosed as something else far too often. If' you have ever been told that your health issues are 'all in your head' and have been accused of being psychosomatic, do yourself a favor and read this book.

Outstanding Contribution!

Awesome! Clearly written. Many clinical insights to guide patients and clinicians. Easy to understand discripitions of difficult to understand problems: Mold exposure illness, Lyme/Tick borne illness, and Multiple Chemical Sensitivities. Timely presentation of current research to guide diagnosis and treatment. Recommending this book to anyone suffering from unknown illness. A great contribution for all clinicians and patients.

The BEST information I've seen about a very REAL disease that is causing REAL suffering!

Get this book. Learn what most doctors don't yet know about. Someone you know will be very grateful to you when you can help them. It's the answer that I've been looking for for a long time. I still have a long way to go before I'm well again, but this is the best news I've had in years.

The solution to chronic health problems!

Wow! This book is not just for the public. It is also a “must read” for every healthcare practitioner, because it is the bible for how to practice 21st Century Medicine. Chronic Complex Illnesses are the new normal, and Dr. Nathan tells us how to discover and treat the root causes of these frustrating and chronic health challenges now afflicting millions of Americans.

Excellent investment

I’m currently dealing with mold toxicity and ordered this book. I already started on Dr Nathan’s treatment protocol and having this book is extremely helpful to understand all aspects of this condition. It’s an excellent investment and easy to follow. It’s well done.

Very useful after just 10 minutes of reading

Yes, even if I have been studying for YEARS medical conditions and treatments for autism, chronic fatigue and Lyme disease, MCAS, this book has been useful just after 10 minutes of reading. I will let you know more when I am done !

A must read for anyone suffering with chronic illness

Excellent book. This is a must read for anyone suffering from a complex chronic illness. It's quite readable and geared toward giving the patient a well organized plan toward wellness. Dr Nathan's book provides hope and detailed treatment methods for those of us wishing to recover our wellbeing. I recently had the opportunity to speak to Dr Nathan and I was very impressed with his knowledge and desire to help others. "Toxic" is an excellent and informative read!

Excellent medical book for laymen

It was recommended by my doctor. Wonderful information for laymen. It really tells a lot to you and it's totally worthwhile. Highly recommended.

This brilliant man saved my daughter's life

A fellow doctor has written the foreward to Dr. Nathan's book as well as there being a quote from him on the front cover. No accolades or statements could be more true. After years of wrong diagnoses and dismissals of my daughter by a range of doctors in the UK, Dr. Nathan was able to carefully and expertly root out the causes of her prolonged suffering. By the time she saw him 5 years ago she was very, very ill. Those common phrases she heard again and again in the UK - "It's all in your head", "Stop feeling sorry for yourself", "You look fine, so just get on with life" etc. etc. were all that she'd heard from doctors, friends and relatives. Dr. Nathan carried out extensive tests and LISTENED to her, and WATCHED her every response, and after over 20 years of mismanagement began her cure. Our thanks to him could not be greater. He is a very lovely human being. I am thrilled that he has written this new book which is a very easy read and of which he must rightly be very proud. It should be read by doctors and patients the world over. Of course whether those doctors will have the integrity to follow up on the information in its pages is an entirely different matter. I couldn't recommend it more highly.

Compassionate, knowledgeable information to help people heal from chronic illness.

I am diagnosed M.E/cfs and have tried many approaches to recovery and read many books but this is the best book on chronic ill health I have ever read. It is beautifully clear writing, compassionate and informative. He gives detailed information about how mould, lyme and other environmental factors may be impacting the body and how to start unpicking what is going on and how to start to treat. He is so clear that in his 47 years as a medical doctor that there are clear medical not psychological reasons why the body is not able to function. I have learnt so much on top of what i have already discovered for myself after 8 years of being bed and housebound. I also finally understand why the body even, once the source of the problem has been treated, may be in cell maladaptive mode and some approaches to resetting the body, but only once all the other things have been addressed. He is also super informative about people who are so sensitive that treatments can make them much worse, and how Mast cell problems need addressing in order to allow the body to tolerate treatment. Dr Nathan is clearly a doctor who has done what so few do this day, listened to his patients and applied his medical knowledge or researched what he does not know in order to help his patients recover. If only ALL doctors remembered that science starts with observation rather than ‘you don’t fit anything i know of therefore i conclude your problem is psychosomatic.’ Where would science be if everyone had taken that approach?

This book provides hope for all those who suffers from mold-toxicity, Lyme and co-infections!

In this brilliant book Dr. Nathan shares his knowledge after many years of research and working with toxic and sensitive patients. He describes how mainly mold-toxicity and Bartonella but also Lyme, other co-infections and viruses can be the cause of the extreme sensitivity that many of his patients experience - and he provides detailed suggestions for treatment for these illnesses and how to reboot the different bodily systems (endocrine, nervous, immune, gastrointestinal etc.) after many years of illness. This book provides so much invaluable information and I will encourage everyone suffering from ME/CFS, Fibromyalgia, chemical sensitivity, chronic Lyme and co-infections to read it. Dr. Nathan is a fantastic doctor and his openness and continuous search for new treatments makes him one of the most knowledgeable doctors and authors in this field! (The book is written both for patients and doctors in a very approachable language.)

Wow, this book! The best I have read in a long time

And I have read a lot... so many answers to long term problems. Specially for people who have been ill so long that they became really sensitive and can not tolerate many things. In this book - there are answers and hope.

Invaluable tool when trying to understand what lymes disease does to your system

Really informative book that helps you understand how an illness can get hold of your body and how to find the tools to fight back. One of 2 books that have changed my life for the better

"Toxic* is literally toxic to me!

I suffer fro MCS, so I thought this would provide some useful information and perhaps some advice. It had good reviews. Unfortunately, II did not have a chance to review. As soon as it was unpacked and opened. the book exuded a sickening sweet odor, no doubt from the printing ink. I am sensitive to petro chemicals, an d I had an immediate reaction. Ironic. I don't know if the author or publishet is aware of the irony, or have any oversight of the Canadian printer.

A great read

Great book if you’re dealing with health issues such as Lyme and mold.

Good information heavy read

Good book but quite technical (heavy reading) when you’re poorly but gives lots of good information

The Best Book About Toxicity

This book is laid out so as to be user friendly to both patients and medical practitioners. It explains in simple terms what toxic mold and Lyme disease do to the body and what can be done to cure it. It has the most comprehensive and up-to-date info available. I even gave a copy to my family doctor to help him understand the complexities of toxicity since doctors are not taught anything about it in medical school!

This book gave me some answers to my health mystery

This book is such a valuable resource to explain what is happening to the body when it’s exposed to Mold, Lyme, or other toxic illnesses. I have been on a quest to heal and I have been trying to learn as much as I can from doctors, course, podcasts, forums, books, and any resource I can find to help me regain my health. I am finding the explanations offered in this book are excellent and I very grateful to this doctor for writing this book, as it’s written so anyone will understand. I feel so much more educated and informed about what could be happening to me that I now have hope that I can probably recover, and if I seek new medical assistance in the future I can help direct my healing program.

Grateful to put the pieces together.

Dr. Neil Nathan brings decades of experience to a complicated topic: Environmentally-Acquired Illness. His approach is refreshingly concise, practical, and lacking the dogma and fear mongering prevalent in other books about Lyme disease and mold toxicity. This book is a welcome addition to my healthcare library.

Fabulous for a Toxin Detox.

Great information for anyone with an autoimmune system evilness. Or anyone doing a detox. Love having this in my bookcase to refer back to. Had so much great advice. Great Doctor. Well written book and easy to understand for the average person.

Nice read, def. recommend it

The book is easy to follow and understand for me as a functional medicine trained coach, but also for my clients. The information is detailed and thorough, and it creates a lot of responses to; if this don’t work, you can try this out. I’ve read multiple Lyme books and been to lectures within the field and this is by far one of the better explanations provided. I feel very thankful that MD Nathan dedicated his life to make the sickest amongst us better. This is something that not a lot of us are capable of those days.

Great book with valuable informations

Was first disappointed because the book arrived with the first 30 pages that had been wet and dried. With a mold illness, this is the last thing you want... But they replaced the defective book. It is a book with a lot of information that can help people. I strongly recomment that book.

Fantastic and Comprehensive

This book is excellent review of a very complicated topic. The book is for patients and physicians who want to understand the practical aspects of diagnosing and treatment of mold and mycotoxins. I highly recommend this book.

Great book!

Well done and extensive.
