New information for everyone!

I am not ashamed to admit I have a bit of an obsession with the Titanic. It’s such an interesting part of our history. Lost at sea for decades, and then brought to light in my lifetime. Absolutely fascinating. I went through this book rather quickly, it was interesting to me and I couldn’t get enough of it. It wasn’t any information I would feel uncomfortable letting my children read, so I think they would have liked it also. Even being a mega fan there were things I didn’t know here. Like the Captain wasn’t going to retire after this voyage, like we enjoy romanticizing. Great read!

Even More Informational Than I Expected

As a family, we’ve always been interested in the story and history of the Titanic. We’re a cruising family so ships are in our heart and interest. We planned a trip to the Titanic museum in Pigeon Forge so I ordered this book before our trip. I wanted the kids to know what they were looking at before we arrived at the museum. I wanted them to have a background knowledge of what the Titanic story was and how it happened. The Titanic book is a question and answer book that includes facts. It states questions and then answers. It also poses true or false questions then gives the answers. It also included some stats and just facts about the ship and related topics. I recommend for those that are studying the Titanic and want to know more information. It has way more information that I was expecting. It goes beyond just light topics and actually informs you about the ship, the cruise line, and informational topics.

Nearer My God To Thee!

RMS Titanic was a Royal Mail ship that never arrived at its destination aboard its maiden voyage. The author is a Titanic enthusiast. This book is for young readers though who might have hundred questions about the Titanic, one the grandest luxury liners to set sail only to struck an iceberg on April 14, 1912 in the freezing North Atlantic Ocean. Over 1500 lives were lost that night. 700 plus survived and told their stories. This book will entertain young readers and enthusiasts about Titanic. The ship has sunken into its final grave in the deep ocean along with many lives. The rediscovery in 1980s showed its deteriorating state. It will always be there though even if not completely. It's discovery showed how the ship broke in two pieces. The Carpathia ship came to rescue the living survivors. The steamship Californian was probably miles away. Maybe they could or couldn't help them. Still the Titanic disastrous catastrophe still haunts the world to this day. If only there were enough lifeboats for all. There were plenty of warnings about an ice field ahead. Why didn't they listen to those warnings? What could be done to prevent another.

A book filled with fascinating facts

Children need to learn history, both American and world history, to become recognized as intelligent people and to be able to learn how to grow and be all they can be and learn how to help society. This book, written in an easy fun manner will not only teach them about a significant historical event, but will stimulate them to learn more about other historical events and ideas. Mary Montero asks 100 questions about the ship Titanic and gives interesting answers. She also frequently adds interesting facts. Examples are: Was there more than one Titanic? How long did it take to build the famous Titanic? Was the Titanic the largest ship ever built? Why did it sing? Did the men in charge of the sailing make a mistake? How many people were saved? The book is also filled with interesting photo of people involved and the ship and its interior.

Fascinating...

Titanic Q&A: 100+ Fascinating Facts for Kids Mary Montero The focus of this book is students between 8 and 12. There are 100 facts about the Titanic in this book including: The Titanic was supposed to be a floating hotel but it was also meant to be a mail ship; when the ship went down 3,500 sacks of mail went down with her. The White Star Line hired Thomas Andrews to design the most beautiful passenger ocean liner of all time. They not only built one ship but three ships: the Titanic, Olympic and the Britannic. The three ships were almost identical. The Olympic set sail approximately a year before the Titanic. The Cunard Line had built two magnificent ships, the Lusitania and the Mauretania; they were faster than the White Star ships but not as large. The Britannic hit an underwater mine and sank while it was serving as a hospital ship during WWI. J Bruce Ismay, the chairman of the White Star Lines declared no expense had been spared in building the Titanic, some of the rivets were made of iron; those rivets could have contributed to the sinking of the Titanic. The Titanic almost collided with another ship on its maiden voyage. Steward Violet Jessop survived a disaster on all three White Star Line ships. There were many animals on board the Titanic including pet dogs, a canary, chickens and uninvited rats. Three dogs survived. This is a fascinating book.

Perfect for the titanic lover in your house

I have a 13 year old that loves history, especially WWII and the Titanic. We have more books about the Titanic than is probably fair for anyone to own, but we are always on the hunt for new books that might hold information she has not read before. This book is well made with a sturdy paperback cover, strong binding and slightly thicker than normal pages. The font chosen is easy to read and printed in a size that is easy to read without feeling like they are just trying to take up space. Page design is visually interesting and pages are filled with interesting facts, quotes and photos. This book was great for my daughter -- it is a slim book so she read it in an hour, but she has revisited and shared interesting facts with us. Most of the information she already knew, but there were new facts and photos she had not seen before, so she still found it to be worth her time. The question and answer approach was a fun way to present the facts. The ones we found most interesting were the ones that the answer isn't definitive. This led to many interesting conversations around the dinner table. I will continue to buy books in this series!

Full of Fascinating Information for Intermediate Readers!

My 8 year old daughter loves reading nonfiction books, so I picked this up for her. We've read it together and it does have some challenging vocabulary, so this book would be too hard for a child younger than 8. The book presents tons of fascinating facts about the Titanic, everything from facts about its build to specific passengers to the fateful day it sunk and much more. I like that it's told through Question and Answer format because it is so full of information that if it were written in standard paragraphs and chapters, it would overwhelm the reader, so breaking it up in manageable pieces makes it enjoyable to read. There are colorful boxes that give the questions and answers as well as real photos. My only complaint is that the hard vocabulary words make you go to the glossary in the back to look up their meaning. There was enough space on the actual page mentioning the vocab word to just put the definition in a box on the page. It interrupts the reading to flip back and forth to look up the word. Overall, she likes the book and has read it twice. If your child likes nonfiction books, this is a great pick for ages 8 and up.

Photographs and facts tell the story

I feel like I am probably the only person on the planet who has not seen the entire Hollywood Titanic movie. I have had every intention of doing that but it just has not happened yet. I have seen a few specials and documentaries in the past and they have been very interesting. I got this book as a resource to have on our family bookshelf. It’s an interesting part of history that was extremely tragic. The book is smaller in size so it is appropriate for a little hands to hold. The paperback measures 8 1/2“ x 5 1/2“. The photos of course are all black and white and the question and answer blurbs are yellow and green. It’s not an extremely bright and colorful book, but I feel like that speaks more to a older reader, child. Among the question and answers, photographs, there are tidbits of information called ‘stat.’ This is an interesting book with a lot of good history. Many of the photographs are very surreal. This is a nice booklet to have for younger students. We have thoroughly enjoyed the photographs that make the history come to life.

Great!

This is a great book! I ordered it for my daughter who is interested in anything to do with the Titanic. I ended up reading it cover to cover before she could get to it, it was so interesting! The layout of the book makes it a quick, exciting read. It has Q and A's, true or false facts, did you know? sections, STATS, and myths and truths, so it's not just reading a long story. It kept my daughter's attention, which is hard to do. The events are all in order from the building of the ship, the voyage, the sinking, to the aftermath and survivors. It includes lots of photos, many of which my daughter had never seen before on the internet or in other Titanic books. She really enjoyed it. The book is very clearly written and organized, informative and not boring. I wasn't surprised when I read on the back cover that the author is a teacher!

Kids will LOVE this!

Learning about the Titanic is FASCINATING for kids--and this book is an amazing addition to a child's library. The Q and A format is fun and easy to read--but the information is what sells the book. There are many books out there about the Titanic, but this one is filled with facts (known and unknown!) that are sure to capture the imagination. As a teacher, I love how the format mimics what we want students to do as they learn to research topics on their own--pose good questions and then find and report on the answers! This book is a big win.

Easy read for kids

This will be a great book for reluctant readers, packed with facts and photos, you don't have big blocks of text to digest. Quick facts interspersed with photos makes this easy to read and digest. Perfect for that kid who also enjoys the "I survived" series, or even perfect for the kid who likes graphic novels and comic books but is looking to branch out to factual events. Adults will even like this book too I might add. Lots of facinating information presented in a way that isn't too morose or morbid. Shining a spotlight on history.

Informative and very approachable layout.

This book is very approachable for younger readers as it’s laid out in question and answer form and full of pictures. A reluctant reader or a child who has no interest in non-fiction may find this book very easy to pick up and it will hold their attention. The book is broken up by subjects like Building Titanic, Passengers, Classes and of course the Sinking that give readers information on all aspects of this famous ship. It’s very to the point facts makes it easy to read as well since it does not dwell on the obvious tragedies to be found in the sinking. This format is sure to appeal to kids who like facts but it’s very approachable format is sure to make it appealing to a wider audience than would normally choose non-fiction.

High interest reading for elementary students

What child isn't fascinated by disasters. This book of questions and answers about the Titanic feeds that desire with pictures, questions and answers, and the examination of some myths. This is an excellent book for reluctant readers. Along the way, the reader will also learn a lot about ships. A warning to children, though: if you order this book, you may have to compete with your parents to read it. My husband and I were both fascinated by the content. In the description this book is described as for ages 8-12, but it could be enjoyed by younger students as well. Highly recommended, especially for elementary classroom and school libraries. I hope they will come out with a copy with library binding.

My kids love it!

My 5yo daughter loves learning about things that are real and have an interesting story. For the last 8 years I’ve been trying to have a Titanic party with my sister and it just hasn’t worked out. After getting this book my daughter is super interested in the titanic (we’ve even watched additional documentaries about it) and I’ve chatted with my sister to plan a party for the 110th anniversary in 2022. I’ve learned new things from reading this book. My 3 and 5 year old are interested in it and it keeps their attention. This is a well done book and I can’t wait to share it with everyone at the party in a couple years!

Not just for kids!

OK, I know this says “for kids”, but as an adult I shamelessly enjoyed this book. If you are interested in the Titanic on a casual level, enjoy trivia, and want to say “oh, wow” a few times, this is a lot of fun. The questions are well organized and really lead the reader through learning about the Titanic, and your friends will be scratching their heads wondering why you are suddenly spouting off Titanic trivia. Sure, this is great for kids and is well written, accessible, and would be good for kids just getting into reading but not quite into “chapter books”. Highly recommended as a gift or just for yourself.

Visually appealing with fascinating information

I got this for my son who, for reasons unknown, developed a fascination for the Titanic. When the book arrived I couldn't help but thumb through it and immediately became absorbed by the facts and photos/illustrations. There's tons of fascinating details and the way it's laid out makes it more accessible than the typical book. It's very visual in the way it presents the information so this is perfect for visual learners. My son did get to read it and he enjoyed it. He read it all in one sitting and has re-read parts of it since. For the price, it's definitely a must for classrooms, homeschools and for any curious students.

Lots of new information !!!

Some time ago I watched the film Titanic with my son. After watching the film, he had many questions and I decided to order this book for him. The book is filled with photographs and done in a very interesting way and tells a lot of facts about the history of the ship, its construction, launching and passengers. Before reading this book, I was sure that I knew enough about the history of the Titanic, this book showed me how wrong I was. My son really liked the truth-lie format, he tried very hard to answer correctly. He also enjoyed looking at photographs.

Little chunks of information, not a compelling story

Here’s my 7-year-old’s review: “This book wasn’t like a connected story book. There’s Q&A, stat, myth and truth, and true and false. The true and false were fun. There were real black and white photos. There’s nothing that I really like and nothing that I don’t really like about the book.” This book is probably best suited for Titanic fanatics who have already read all the books they can find on the subject. It’s not appropriate for newcomers since it doesn’t actually tell the story in a coherent way. I received a free digital review copy from the publisher.

Very interesting, chance to learn about more than the tragedy

I got this book for my son's homeschool library to use in future reading and projects. I looked through it and find the info so interesting. It had so many facts, original photos, myths, etc. I think it's nice to be able to learn and think about the Titanic as more than a tragedy that is hard to talk about, but real people that had stories and a ship that was a marvel before it sunk. There's good in bad, too. I recommend.

Very fascinating-I learned a thing or two

I was 20 years old when the movie Titanic came out but even before then, I was fascinated by this disaster. This book is full of facts like the stranger than fiction fact of the woman who survived the shipwreck of Titanic and then when on to survive two other sinkings on the Titanic's sister ships. Really fun book that also sets the record straight on a few myths and urban legends. Great book and a quick and easy read.

Fun, educational book!

I got this for my 12 year old who loves learn in my about history. He was able to read this book fairly quickly and learned a lot of new facts. He says he really enjoyed the pictures and feels like it is like going back in time. The books is well written and played out in an easy to understand format. This book is a great way for young readers to learn about the unsinkable ship. Even I learned quite a few new facts from this book, very interesting!
