Great seller and book!

Great book and great shipper thank you!

This book was James Cameron's 'Bible' for his movie

James Cameron said of Ken Marshall's artwork in this book, "What Ken Marshall did on canvas, I wanted to do on film." This book is a must have for any "Titanic" aficionado, and I mean either the ship or the movie. It's now out of print, but it may be put back in print.

Beautiful and Informative

This is a visual representation of the “life” of the Titanic. The pictures and representations are a great companion piece to A Night to Remember or On A Sea Of Glass.

The Book of Dreams

I got a used hardcover, I didn’t realize I had bought it used but I also didn’t care because it was quite well priced. I have to say that even though it came “used”, the previous owner took very good care of it to which it well deserved considering how magnificent this book is. I have been glued to the pages and the wonders they hold. The three greatest Titanic Historians, scientists, and artists wrote this book collectively and I have to say that this is the best collection of ideas, art, and history one could possibly have if the Titanic, The Ship of Dreams.

Love This Book!!!

This book is wonderful; the illustrations are terrific and the stories are very interesting and intriguing. We love this book and would recommend it to anyone.

Great Book

This was a great book but the copy I received was in poor shape. It looks too rough to be put on display on the coffee table.

I've always been intrigued by the amazing machines that mankind has created - the Titanic is no exception to this. Of course, its true legacy remains as the largest and most luxurious ship of its time that ultimately could not complete its maiden voyage. Because this great ship sank before it had a chance to be properly documented, books like this are the best way I've found to remember her - through the gathering of the limited photos actually taken, together with a description of her relatively short history as compiled by Donald Lynch, and complimented by the art work by Ken Marschall - whose artwork exceeds in detail and realism any photos that *might* have been taken during that time period!

No surprises - great info

The movie Titanic was based on this book, that's where James Cameron got his inspiration and the attention to detail in the movie. Great historical information with lots of pictures and unique stories not told in the movie.

Outstanding pictures

Very well written. Pictures very good. The pictures showing placement and timing of the lifeboats was worth the price of the book.

wonderful

I ordered this book because several of the school-age children I work with were showing interest in the Titanic. The only book we had on it was a thin little "I can read" book. When this book came in the mail, I was immediately pleased with it. It is a large book with probably around 100 pages. There are actual photographs, paintings, diagrams, etc. Every detail is included. The book describes the idea for the ship, how it was built, who bought tickets, what the cabins were like, the food they ate, personal stories about real families and individuals who were on the ship, how and why it sank, and stories of both lives lost and survival. This is a book for adults, but the children needed something more than a beginning reader on this.

Wonderful

Awesome book

Condition of the book was like brand new

The quality and the condition of the book were excellent.

A WONDERFUL TRIBUTE TO THE WORLD'S MOST REMEMBERED LINER

Another excellent book. This one and Ken Marschall's 'Art Of Titanic' book are wonderful coffee-table tomes. They are a beautiful addition to add to your Titanic collection, and I won't approve just anything! I have over 20 different Titanic books in my private collection, and this own has to be the crown jewel. Beautiful full page paintings grace many leafs, and one of the best features is a fold-out of the Harland and Wolff blueprint. It doesn't come much better than this!! If you know someone who loves The Ship of Dreams, this will be the type of book they'll keep till the end of time! (Or, at least I will!!)

Wonderful Photos and Drawings

Wonderful photos and drawings that help give a very good history of the Titanic. I learned many things I didn't know before and got a better understanding of the ship and it's ill fated passengers.

Excellent

I have 3 titanic books. The first 2 I got free and this one I bought. The three books, believe it or not, says something different about this marvelous vessel each. I love ships anyways so of course I have to read up on the titanic. The book is over 200 pages and basically tells the story of how this ship came to be and how it all ended. As it says in the title all the pictures you see are mostly drawings that are very well done. I have read this book twice so far cover to cover and plan on reading it a 3rd time soon. And yes I also have the movie.

Illustrated

Endlessly fascinating illustrations.

The complement to this book is the PBS Titanic 2-part series DVD where these authors provide exceptional color commentary on the events leading up to, during and well after the Titanic tragedy. This book is the only book everyone should read on the subject. In fact, it is worthy of being an elementary school history book. Buy it inexpensively, used, and do yourself a favor during a rainy day!

Great book for anyone interested in the history of the Titanic.

My 9 year old son is obsessed with all things Titanic. This is a great book, well written, and with great photos (which is his greatest part). The history and passengers and crew all come alive in this great illustrated book. It is a large book filled with photos and history we hadn't seen before. We are happy with this purchase.

Titanic: An Illustrated History - a must for any Titanic enthusiast.

Excellent book, excellent price. My son is a Titanic enthusiast and I ordered the book for him. He loves the book and really enjoys all of the excellent illustrations. This is a well put-together book and is a must for any Titanic enthusiast.

Best book about Titanic, bar none!

The information, the original pictures, the paintings, the illustrations are simply priceless! I borrowed this book from my local library years back and was sorry when I had to return it! And finally, this book is mine! For those of you looking for a good book on Titanic, there is no better choice than this! James Cameron used this edition to assist in the screenplay and production of Titanic, so it's no surprise most of the paintings and illustrations look a lot like the movie! I strongly recommend! You won't regret it!

This is a GREAT BOOK!

I bought this book for my eight year old son and he LOVES IT! He's a big fan of the Titanic and owns several books and DVD on the subject. As all the other reviews mention, this is an excellent book. Well written and all the information about Titanic, shipwrecks, history, history of technology, history of America, ocean liner, shipwreck, ships, etc are great. The illustrations and photos are outstanding. Great work Mr. Donald Lynch and Ken Marschall. If you're a fan of the Titanic this book is a must for your collection.

I love this book

So far I can honestly say this is one of the best, if not the best book ive read up on the titanic. If your interested in the titanic as much as I am, then this book will take you far in your understanding of the true titanic story. Titanic an illustrated history is very informative, and the pictures are eye catching. I love this book, and I recommend it to all interested in the titanic.

I am a True TitanicTitaniac and I have lots of Titanic Books in my collection, but this one is one of my absolute favorites.I especially love the pictures that Ken Marchall did. Anybody who loves Titanic will love this book. Jeanne ann Kemp

Take a Trip on the Titanic

My eight year old brought this book home from her school library and asked me if I would read it with her. Well, I started to read it and couldn't put it down. The pictures, the photos, the descriptions and the narratives were so rich and wonderful, by the time I was done reading I felt as though I had journeyed on the Titanic myself. I just can't say enough about this fantastic book. Very highly recommended.

A Great Book on the Titanic

"Titanic An Illustrated History" is an excellent title for anyone who wants to know more about the Titanic from building the ship to the investigations into the sinking. The book is around 225 pages, has numerous photographs and colorful illustrations, and contains around 12 chapters and focuses on the following main areas: 1. Inception and building the ship. 2. The maiden voyage and details of the sinking. 3. Evacuating the boat. 4. Rescue efforts and memorial services. 5. Investigations into the sinking. 6. Discovery the Titanic on the ocean floor several years later. 7. Some of the Titanic artifacts found during the discovery. The narrative was smooth throughout the book and was very enjoyable to read. The book also served to dispel myths presented in the latest Titanic movie from Hollywood (1997?) that starred Leonard DiCaprio and others. In particular, while people of different social classes were pitted against one another in the struggle for survival in the movie, the book was full of examples of people who willingly sacrificed their lives so that others may live. While the movie was okay, Hollywood did seem to twist some of the facts. Thankfully, the book was more accurate. Read and enjoy this great account of an unfortunate episode in maritime history. Recommended.

Excellent!

Great pictures with awesome stories from the building of the Titanic to the sinking. I especially love the personal stories of some of the passengers. Really puts a personal spin on the 1500 souls that perished. Interestingly learned of the wide array of nationalities on the ill-fated ship. Excellent for the Titanic buff.

Titanic Centennial

This book while a beautiful pictorial is both informative and compelling in its historical data. There have been many many books written about this ship and her fate but this one is best for a collector or a model ship builder. I bought it for my model ship building partner and he was thrilled with it. He completed his 5 foot model last year and gave it lots of detail. When he sees inaccurate models of this ship he gets annoyed and some people think it really doesn't matter but to those who know the history, it matters a great deal. This book, received after the build, was a welcome addition to his Titanic collection.

The greatest guide to the Titanic

Although slightly outdated (published in 1994) this book is thoroughly comprehensive history of the ship, its passengers, its builders, its history, its discovery, and its legacy. Amazing pictures and accounts tell the story scrupulously. It is the true story, after all, that has fascinated so many people for so long. From its beauty and extravagant wealth and ironic belief to be unsinkable, to its death on its maiden voyage, to its horrifyingly inadequate lifeboats, to the great human drama and span of human emotions in its final hours, to the self sacrificing to the panicking to the hope and hopelessness, to the reclaiming of nature of the ship. It's just disturbingly fascinating. Interestingly, one of the investigators into the sinking said that more lifeboats wouldn't have saved more people because the existing ones weren't full. So many people on that ship died by choice, in refusing to save themselves, because they didn't want to be parted, or because they refused to properly inform the passengers. One of the most interesting treasures in this book is the last known photograph of the ship as it sails into history. Grade: A-

Best Titanic book I've seen

This is a wonderful book with great pictures. My kids checked it out so many times from the library that I finally bought one to have at home. The book tells the story of the making of the Titanic, the fateful journey, the discovery of the wreckage. It has many pictures and a few projected pictures (what it may have looked like). There is also a section of questions and answers, such as the differences in first, second, and third class. I cannot recommend this book highly enough!

Best book available on the Titanic

I have to agree with the previous review posted this is probably the best book ever published on the tragic Titanic. It is a beautifully illustrated history of the tragic liner from conception to her well documented demise and discovery in 1985. Ken Marshall's paintings bring the grand dame to life and also help to put into perspective the wreck as she was in 1994 when the book was first published. It is a must have for any Titanic enthusiase even if it is slightly outdated now.

Titanic

This book is perfect. The artwork of Ken Marschall is absolutely stunning. The text is so accurate. It is my favorite book on the Titanic to date. Majestic, is the word that comes to my mind when I look at this book. I savor each and every page. I love it. Amazon rocks!!

A WONDERFUL BOOK

OKAY NOW I AM 24 YEARS OLD AND HAVE BEEN INTERESTED IN TITANIC SINCE I WAS 14. SO A GOOD 10 YEARS. I READ THIS BOOK FOR MY SENIOR PROJECT IN 1999, MY PARENTS AND FRIENDS WEREN'T SUPRISED. THIS ONE BOOK WAS THE ONE THAT HELPED ME THE MOST. THE DETAILS WERE EXCELLENT, AND I LOVE READING IT. I CHECKED OUT OF THE LIBRARY ABOUT 30 TIMES THAT YEAR. THERE'S ONE MORE BOOK THAT IF YOU CAN FIND IT ITS GOOD READING TOO, I FORGET THE TITLE IT HAD REPRODUCTIONS OF NEWSPAPER ARTICLES OF THE TIME (1912)AND THATS ALL IT HAD.

Outstanding

Wow, where to start? The illustrations are absolutely beautiful, the research was painstakingly done, and this book is now one of my favorite treasures. There are stories in this book - true stories - that are much more poignant and emotional to me than the fictional love story in James Cameron's movie. I had been interested in the Titanic long before that movie came out, and one reason was that I had seen a set of documentaries on cable, called Titanic: Death of a Dream, and Titanic: The Legend Lives On, and the documentaries featured interviews with this author and artist, as well as highlighting illustrations and stories from the book. It is a definite must for anyone with a serious interest in Titanic lore. I have read the Walter Lord books and think highly of them, but I think this book is the best I have seen on the subject.

An Excellent Book

I bought this book for my daughter who is a history buff, and man, was I ever glad that I did. Simply put, this just is an excellent book. The illustrations by Ken Marschall are absolutely amazing. Hands down, they are the best that I have ever seen in regards to the Titanic. His use of color is so extraordinary that sometimes I seriously had to take a second look to make sure that it was not a photograph. The writing is also quite good. Don Lynch gives heroic voices to the crew of the ship, something that was missed in the smash hit movie. His language is very candid, and it allows you to feel as if you are actually there experiencing the voyage. This book is, by far, the most descriptive and informative recap of the story of the Titanic. It is one magnificent journey and a terrific book.

Favorite Titanic Book

This is my favorite Titanic book. It includes everything to a dinner with Bruce Ismay discussing his idea of 3 olympic class ships, to try and try to beat out the Cunard Line to how it affects us now. The pictures are amazing and leave me in awe, everytime I look at them. This book is on the top self, in room, and am very proud to say, this is my alltime favorite book.

Well written well illustrated

An extremely well written and well illustrated work on this historic and tragic accident. Must read for anyone interested in this event in history. A good addition to any library. One flaw. Does not provide passenger capacity of types of lifeboats carried.

only book you need

i've read this book about three times. i guarentee the information in this book is entirly correct. i've had the plesent expierance of meeting with the author (don lynch) on several occations and interviewed him on his knowledge of the titanic and her people. there's a lot of books about the titanic out there that i've seen that hold information that just isn't accurate. don't waist your money on them, buy books only from the following authors: Don Lynch, Ken Marshall, Charles A. Haas, John P. Eaton and anything by The Mariners' Museum. all of those people are the LEADING HISTORIANS on the titanic.

Excellant service

Product was of a decent price, arrived in a timely manner and in good condition. Overall, well pleased with transaction.

Ken Marshall+Don Lynch=Titanic Excellence!

This is an excellent coffee table book for The Titaniac. A nice brief segmented history as well. Quite a neat foldout of a cut-away of The RMS Titanic. One could not go wrong with this book.

Wonderful!

This book is great! The art work by Ken Marschall can't be topped! What can be said about the history within those pages?!

Titanic Companion

I bought this book when the movie "Titanic" came out and am I ever glad I did. A wonderful history of the Titanic, the authors have assembled fascinating pictures and recreations of the luxury liner's china, hallways and accommodations, etc. Reading this book is almost like taking a trip on the Titanic herself.

Great Illustrations

This review is regarding the hardback version (1992) This gives a great account of the tragedy and also details what happened to some of the survivors. It includes recent exploration at the site of the sinking. A wonderful collectors item for those interested in the Titantic.

The ULTIMATE Titanic Book!!!!

A superb Titanic book with wonderful pictures, interesting information, diagrams, pull out maps and charts- EVERYTHING!! Worth any cost.

Great detail.

My 13 year old son read this cover to cover. He did a project on it for school as well. Great detail, stories and the illustrations are of high quality as well.

Dirty and ripped

It has water stains throughout the entire book, it has food caked on it, tons of rips. I can't believe it got sent to me like this.

Great book!

The item arrived quickly and in great condition. I will definitely order from this vendor again! As for the book, it's great! I've always been interested in the Titanic and the events surrounding the night it sank. Very interesting read!

A must own. Tons of information

A must own for Titanic fanatics. The ultimate book about the tragedy. Ken Marshall and Don Lynch made a masterpiece.

Musty book

The book was in decent condition, but it smelled like it was in someone's wet basement for the last 20 years. It was a horrible smell, making it impossible to read. I had to throw it out.

Quick delivery

Great book! Great service

Gorgeous Book!

I've not read it yet,as it just arrived, but it's a beautiful book.I can't wait to read it,and just LOVE it! Thanks so much, bought a hardback used, and could not be more pleased.

Wonderful and entertaining

Excellent, I would like other selections if they exist, written by Don Lynch as he really was one of only historians of the Titanic who really got to know the survivors and their stories. The book is even dedicated to two of them, Winnie, whom I believe is Edwina Trout and Ruth, being Ruth Becker I`m sure.

Sumptuous Publication

I used to have a copy of this as a teenager that I loved to pick up and thumb through all the time. The tumults of time however had led to me losing my original one. Picking it up again recently on Amazon for pennies though, it was just as good as I remember it. Richly illustrated and expensively produced, with quality paper and a hardback cover. This book came out only a few years before James Cameron's "Titanic" appeared, and it's influence can clearly be seen on the film in the way key events are explained and interpreted. I've also seen many documentaries over the years where its author has been one of the main interviewees. He's obviously must therefore be one of the main go to sources for Titanic info. If you're in any way a Titanic enthusiast, pick up a copy today!

Quality second hand book

The quality condition of the book made this a steal at the price

Incredible reference book

I'm about to embark on building a huge model of the Titanic and this book was not only a bargain but is a wonderful reference book. (I'd used a friends copy before so I knew exactly what to expect.) Having said that I was prepared to pay the usual price, £30, but got this £3. And that included the postage! Mint condition and I'm very pleased with it.

Bellissimo libro

Very nice book!

Very nice book for any Titanic collector. Personally I needed it for scale modeling and it covers my needs.

Excelent

I purchased this book as a replacement item for a book my husband lent out never to be returned. It's his favorite Titanic reference book amongst many that he has. The amazon seller was great and my husband was delighted to have this book back at a good price.

Recommended

I really enjoyed this book and couldn't put it down. It is slightly outdated now being published in 1992 but in terms of images and the writing, it's still such a good resource. Highly recommended.

Excellent

Really good quality second hand book, very pleased. Would recommend seller

Good book, lush paintings by Ken

I've been wanting this since I was 13! Good book, lush paintings by Ken Marschall

Poor condition, not as per description

Hi i selected this book because it was marked as very good condition, front cover was ripped, one page has had a picture cut out of it and another whole page has been ripped out.

Five Stars

Beautifully illustrated and absolutely engrossing from beginning to end. An excellent book.
