Before David Ponder ever visited Truman in The Traveler's Gift, Michael Holder began his journey as the last young traveler to receive the unique gifts of wisdom offered by historical greats. In his senior year of high school, Michael hits rock bottom. Having been caught in the wrong place at the wrong time, he has now been suspended from the track team and lost his college scholarship. His coach is angry, his parents are disappointed, and he's diving headfirst into a downward spiral. Facing the bleak future ahead, he sees no way out and wonders if life is really worth living. But with some divine intervention, he's given a second chance when he's offered a once-in-a-lifetime journey of discovery.

A Trip Worth Taking

Loved it! I have read and also loved The Traveler's Gift and was in the process of buying that book for Christmas gifts for a niece and nephew when I saw this book for the "Young" and from the description and their ages decided this would be a better fit. I can always get them the "adult" version later. I decided to get my own copy to read so I would know what they were getting. I was not disappointed. The storyline is more geared to teens but the principles interwoven inside the stories are timeless (that is the definition of a principle isn't it?) and the same as in the original Traveler's Gift. I recommend this as a gift for any teen you care about and want to encourage their current love of reading or maybe trigger a new interest. They will thank you later.

A Must-Read for All High Schoolers

Although the story is compelling, what earns this book a 5-star rating is the essential life lessons it teaches. The 7 truths learned by the protagonist were once considered common sense but have since been rejected by our culture, much to our detriment. The Young Traveler's Gift is required reading in my 8th grade English class. I believe those who live according to the principles Andrews lays out will be more successful in high school and in life.

Exactly the truth this world needs

This book speaks of the truths that this world seems to have forgotten. What a gift this book becomes when read with intention. If one chooses, they may change the direction and momentum of their lives by putting the truths into practice.

Excellent story for teens and adults!

Great story that included an interesting narrative and a ton of useful life principles.....My 9 year old son loved the book and we use the decisions to discuss life principles. I highly recommend this book.

Every teen should read this book!

I was so impressed by the adult book I got the Young Traveler's Gift for my grandson turning 15 and entering high school. The cover and layout are value added when it comes to asking a busy teen to read. The chapters - encounters - are so well written and powerful. I will plan to give this to each of my grandkids as they enter high school. I wrapped it in a world map, put challenge words on the ribbon and attached a key chain compass/flashlight thing! Made a great birthday gift! I'm recommending it to all my piano families too as a family reading challenge!

Inspirational for young adults and older people as well

A friend recommended this book to me recently, and even though on the surface it appeared to be written more for a younger person (the protagonist is just a teenager), I have to say that I genuinely found value in this work. The author artfully writes about the experiences of a young man who finds himself in a very challenging personal situation (i.e., a "moment of truth" in his life). Using a very innovative narrative, the author describes the young man's encounters with seven historical figures (e.g., Abraham Lincoln, Anne Frank), each of whom provides him with a critical "decision" necessary for achieving success in life. While I have read similar advice in other personal growth books, it was never delivered in such an entertaining manner. I highly recommend this book as a personal growth resource.

awesome for teens!!

Wonderful book, it is now my go to graduation gift. (plus an amazon gift card + a deck of cards) Just saw Andy Andrews speak at the Thirty One conference a few weeks ago, what a guy!! Watch his video (about 10 min) on youtube the butterfly effect. Get this book for teens, and get The Travelers Gift for yourself.

The Young Traveler's Gift

I intended to purchase the Traveler's Gift, which had been recommended by a friend, and inadvertently bought The Young Traveler's Gift. Although clearly intended for a younger audience, the messages are universal principles that will serve all readers well. It is, however, a very simple, formulaic story, and aside from the actual "7 messages" which run about a page or two per each message, the rest is pure filler and, quite redundant. Having said that, I still gave it 4 stars because of the value of the messages and the impact I believe the book would make on that younger audience. For an adult reader my rating would have been 3 - 3.5.

Pay it forward!

A bit smaller than expected although I’m excited to read it. Plan on handing it down to my nephew once he’s of age to read it. Love the Traverler’s Gift for adults! Great read if you have yet to!

Amazingly insightful

Through contact with famous successful people in a dream a troubled young man is given a chance to become a better person and worthy contributor to society. An excellent read for anyone needing a helping hand up into a more satisfying productive life.

must read by all

this book was a book study for my son's high school, all seniors and facutly were required to read it, i decided to read it as well, once i started, could not put it down, reminded me of eberneizer schroge, but more related to bibical experiences for reflections on the past, present, future of your life. makes one think about where your life has been, now, and going. excellent book, have recommended it to all i come in contact with. truely a must read for all. i recommend you put this book on your bucket list as number 1 thing to do asap.

Interesting read

My 9 year old and 13 year old read this book. They both loved it..

I loved this book and so did my boys

A friend gave me this book for my boys to read. My twelve year old son loved it so much that he wanted us to read it out loud as a family. I read a chapter each night with my three boys...12,10 and 7 years old. We loved it! Bought it for all of our friends for Christmas. Great lessons that are inspired by people in history.

Not what I was expecting

The kids I work with find this book more difficult to read than the original Traveler's Gift. I thought that since it was a "Young" version that it would be easier to read- and it wasn't. The vocabulary isn't meant for children with a lower reading level.

Inspiring

I gave this book to my grandson as an Easter gift. Kids need to know they have the ability to make their lives whatever they want them to be...this book is one of many tools in the box to achieve that end. Being reminded of the importance and power of one's life and decisions builds inner strength.

It’s a page turner!

I loved the adult version and this teen version. Teaches character is something that comes when you push through the trials of life. It’s a page turner!

A great, and beneficial, read!

Purchased this for a teen nephew. I did read it before I gave it to him, and the principles in it are great tools to apply to daily living (which is why I bought it for my nephew!) I also purchased the original Traveler's Gift for some adults in my life to remind and encourage them to keep applying these principles to life.

Bought the book for my 9 year old daughter

My 9 year old daughter loved this book. My husband and I read the adult version and it made a huge impact in our lives. We wanted out daughter to started thinking intentionally and this book made a huge difference. I recommend it to any kid 8+

Great little book with a BIG message

Read this book with my 10 year old son. He and I really enjoyed it. I describe this book as a Magic Tree House type story for older kids. It has broad appeal, it an interesting and engaging read. Each chapter ends making you want to read more. Loved the lessons it teaches. Invaluable to young and old alike.

Reading in High School

I ordered this book for my son who is reading it in high school. It is not a very taxing read, but it is thought provoking for teens about choices and consequences. I would highly recommend for teens and especially as a family experience to discuss.

good

I bought this for my son who is a senior in high school. He doesn't give much feedback but read it quickly and said he liked it. He said, "It gave me some things to think about." This was his mother's hope. So I call it a success

Great book

I bought this book to replace a school book my son lost. I read it so I'd know if he read it or not. It was not at all what I expected but I really enjoyed it. I liked that it met up with some notable people from history. I think all students should read it.

Believe it!

The stuff in this book really works! I was raised on these principles. Realizing you really ARE important to others and being encouraged to study these principles goes a long, long way in one's life. Awesome story line. Well written.

they loved it and would now like to read more Andy ...

My children and I read this together, they loved it and would now like to read more Andy Andrew's books

Helps you think about things in a wonderful perspective

This story is a good for someone who is having problems with life. If you have low self-esteem, you have been through a loss (such as death) - this story can really hit home and help clear your mind and focus your life.

Historical stories that are pratical today.

A book that will entertain and yet challenge you every time you read it. Practical lessons with historical references make this book a quick read that you will read over and over again! It will challenge you to persist without exception!

Very good book but...

Very good book but I wish there was more action in the book. I also want a book that is about Michael in the future. Curtis Wilkinson

Excellent insight to share with others.

Another excellent book from Andy Andrews. If you have read the first book, "The Traveler's Gift" you will certainly want to add this to your library.

I love Andy's writing

I love Andy's writing. Gave this to my graduating senior. Hoping to inspire him with Andy's wisdom for life.

Great message

Great message! Short easy read. My 14 year old son thought it was good. I actually liked it better than the the Travelers Gift that was written for adults.

all ages

a terriffic book for all ages. I gave the book to two grandsons 14 and 15 and we will have a book report soon. I also gave it to my 31 year old daughter that has led a troubled life. Great reading.

My 14 year old grandson is the recipient of this book and like all of Andy Andrews books, this one is well-written and has lots to offer teenagers. Thanks!

Amature

This book just wasnt for me. I thought it was a failed attempt at being profound.

A Must Read for teen life lessons for success!

Great book and great lessons. I read the adult version and have given over 75 as gifts. The teen version has a lot teens can connect to. I read this version as a 14 year old young man I mentor also read it. The book provides many points for discussion and numerous teachable moments. I would highly recommend it.

Expand your child's horizons!

This book will challenge children approx. 9-14 years of age, challenge them to think about their lives, where they're going and the best way to get there.

Five Stars

Great book but keep in mind that this is the youth version. Hence "young travelers guide"

The Young Traveler's Gift

I chose Andy Andrew's book The Young Travel's Gift: Seven Decisions That Determine Personal Success to use in a Literature Circle discussion group with the youth from my church. The novel led to many indepth discussions on topics with which students can relate. I was amazed at the connections that students made and the discussion questions they had. Included in the book is a guide for making good decisions in today's world. A must read for the youth of today. My only complaint is that one of the books that I ordered had missing pages. Therefore, it could not be used.

Invest in this book!

This book is a must read for all teens! The message is a powerful one and could change the culture of your home, school, and city.

Great read—inspirational

All young people need hope! This book will set the stage for a meaningful journey to serve ones purpose; a field guide for personal accomplishments.

The Travelers Gift

A book you will want to reread and highlight words of advice to take and live by. Easy reading and a good "teaching book". HS teachers have used this with their leadership classes.

This book is really good. I was very inspired by the meaningful words. It is nice for the author to add a catchy storyline along with those morals usually in boring non-fictions.

Wonderful author

I bought this book for a teenage grandson who I hope will read it soon. I also hope he will be so inspired that he will pass it onto his younger brother for reading and guidance.

Good book

This book was a good book but I got lost in it a couple times. That is why I give it a 3 star.

Relative to the desperately seeking heart.

This text captures the heart of everyone, young and old. Andrews takes the stories of past world changers and embeds a theme of purposeful hope to the reader. This is a superb work that I am grateful to have read.

Simple and profound

This book really is a simple self help book with some really good advice. As a story it feels very contrived but certainly a great book to share with youth, and a good book to discuss.

This is a captivating story. Great lessons for how to direct your future. I plan on having my own children read this.

everyone needs to read this

very good book. simple, easy to apply. worth your time. realistic plot. I liked the end-of-the-chapter summaries to recap and have a reference page available.

Best book for young teens.

My goal is to give away this book to 100 young people. My wife says you bought the same book again? I wish I had kept track of how many I've gave away so I would know when I get to 100. Between this and The Traveler's gift I have read at least 20 times.

Great!

This is a wonderful version of the "regular" Traveler's Gift only this one is written for young adults or teens. Great gift for young people.

The Young Traveler's Gift

This should be required reading in many different grades of school---It would certainly give many young people a different perspective on their lives.

NOT THE BOOK

I ordered the wrong book for my daughters AP English class! I had to re-order the right through ebay because it was a great deal cheaper!

Amazing message for all ages

My daughter was required to read this book for religion class at her Catholic school. The teacher was giving extra credit for students that had their parents read as well, which is why I picked it up. This book has such inspiring words and a great, easy to understand message for all ages. Very good mix of fiction, history and an inspirational message! Great job!

WONDERFUL gift from Andy Andrews

This is a must have for any person searching for their own meaning of life. Andy Andrews does a miraculous job w/ the writing and flow of the c story. The suspense keeps keeps the reader from being able to put the book down. Andy addresses many issues that most Americans deal w/ today: poverty, debt, financial ruin, personal failure, etc. Any's story is heart gripping and truly puts the important things in life into perspective. Wonderful book for teens and adults alike. You will be blessed by this book.

A must read for teenagers.

I beleive this should be required reading for any young person. The seven principals will change their lives. Had history been taught in this fashion when I was in school, I would have enjoyed it, rather than just put up with it. My goal with this book is to have 100 young adults read it, sign it, give me a 1 page report and it pays 20 bucks. I hope the pages get worn out. My first victim is a 17 year old that is the son of a waitress in a sports bar I frequent. Just caught part of a conversation one evening between him and mom. I asked her if he would read the book based on my terms. She said yes. A few days later I was dropping the book off to her. As she was taking the book back to put with her purse another waitress stopped her. The waitress asked where she got the book. She went on to explain she had read the book about a year ago. She started talking in detail about Truman, Lincon, Ann Franks and the other people in the book. I was stunned. Her final comment was "This is the best book I ever read."

Must Read for Children

This is a very good book for young children ages 10-16. It really offers a lot of good advice for teaching children good decision making as they grow up into adulthood. I bought it for my two granddaughters. I am a teacher and we also use this book for a fifth grade instructional read. It helps them get a prospective on life and offers encouragement and confidence.

Rules to live by

The stroy everyone who has been a teen can relate too and every teen should read.. Has a nice flow and among only a few books that time travel is almost believable. Shot read.

Loved this book

Loved this book. If you need a lift, a little inspiration, read this. And read all of Andy Andrews books. They are all really good.
