Great book, but the other book of the same author is much better

This is a very high quality book, chock a block full of information about construction sites, with lots of imaginative flaps, things that swivel, move, and fold. HOWEVER...it is not as good as "The Ultimate Book of Vehicles" by the same author. The "Vehicles" book is more appropriate for kids 3 years and up: It is still full of awesome flaps, swivels, and things that move, but it is simpler, with pictures of the vehicle, the name of the vehicle, and maybe a few names of the parts of the vehicle. You open up a flap to see inside, make it move, etc. My son found it very interesting. The "Construction" is really aimed for older kids, I'm guessing 5 and up, maybe even older. There are just so many words on the page, and so much information. The flaps are not as interesting as the previous book, and I found many of the moving parts to be "sticky", and my 3 year old ripped quite a few out within a week of reading the book. We have not ripped anything from the "Vehicle" book. So I would say if you have an older kid who wants to gain a lot of knowledge about construction sites, this book is for you. But if you have a younger child (3 and up, any younger and they'd destroy the book), get the "Vehicle" book.

Five stars from a civil engineer and dad

I'm a civil engineer that builds subways for a living. This is the best children's book about construction that I have ever seen. My daughter loves the activity involved with reading this book. Each page is unique, with different combinations of flaps, pull tabs, and levers... and one page even has a twirling cutter head of an earth pressure balance tunnel boring machine. We both love this book!!!

Get the book!

My 2 year old is obsessed with trucks and anything to do with construction. This book is AWESOME. There is so much to look at, we read/talk about/look at 1 page each night. You can easily spend a half hour on one page playing with all the flaps and things that slide around on the pages. Although the book feels sturdy and high quality, I recommend supervising the little ones while reading...my 2 year old has already torn a little flap (he was trying to lift it the wrong way). Bottom line: We love it, its a great deal right now. Get it!!

Fascinating, detailed, and interactive!

Great book to learn about all things construction! Filled with details, flaps to open, flip, pull, fold, everything. For an older kid than I expected, maybe 5yrs old if really into construction. There is almost too much information on each page to really sit and get through with a younger child's attention span.

Need to be sure all moving parts are moving.

Book itself should l d be a 5, but had to tape crane up as.circular piece broken.. What would be page 4, 2nd design page 2 of, building cranes, the circular movement of (mast) boom drop tore upon 1st view. This is the 3rd ultimate book and other 2 without any problems, so it was Not caused by mis-use. The circle piece of the movement appeared to be glued down, when it should have had movement. Would appreciate product replacement, and return shipping with replacement. Thank You!

Construction Crazed Kid’s Favorite Book

My son’s 3rd birthday was construction themed. He’s obsessed with mighty machines and this book was a huge hit from the moment he unwrapped it. He sleeps with it, lugs it to grocery store, takes it to show & tell every week, and “reads” it to everyone. That said, the flaps and pop outs are delicate and I’ve had to use double sided tape on several areas.

Awesome book

My 6 year old grandson loves this book especially the pull down items on the pages. Very good quality book. I would get it again. You wouldn't want to get it for a much younger child because the pull down items could be torn if not careful.

Construction 🚧 heaven!

This is the best book I have ever read to my grandson. He lives it. I am ordering the related farm book as well. There is so much information within the text, flaps, levers and foldout sections as to entertain and inform their little minds for hours! They love anything related to construction 🏗 🚧 or the trucks and machines used. A more perfect book I couldn’t have written myself. Thank you for offering this.

Such a Neat and Thorough Book!

You know it's legit when two engineer dad's are impressed with how detailed and precise all the info is! My kiddo loved pouring over it. Note: there are LOTS of moving flaps and pieces, in case you have a book mutilator on your hands...

Worth the money!

Such an amazing book. So many moving parts and flaps! Shows different types of construction sites and explains what is happening next to each action. The book is extremely durably made, however children need to be advised to be gentle with the moving parts. Totally worth the money!

Read, Slide, Pivot, Think--Learn

Awesome book. Not only are there flaps, but there are also parts that slide, turn, and pivot. Specific language quickly builds a vocabulary, and the ideas are presented in a way that gets kids thinking. Will be ordering more in this series.

Fun and Instructive

Great pop up book for any age. Children will be excited to explore all the little doors and move the levers, unknowingly learning about an exciting possible future. Gave it to my grand daughter who is doing graduate work in structural engineering. She thought it was perfect. Boys and girls will love it as they do their legos and other construction projects.

Fun interactive book

I bought this as a gift for my 5-year old grandson and he loves it. There are many moving parts but he is very careful and enjoys it. I would not dare give this to his younger brother who would tear it up in a second!

Chock full of pictures and info!

My 2 year old loves this book! He is obsessed with construction vehicles and sites. This gives him the opportunity to look at very specific things they do while constructing buildings, bridges, subways, airplanes... Perhaps it is a little overwhelming with so much to look at but my son loves that he can look at so much and point to things to ask about it.

Perfect for granddaughter

Ought this for our just turned-3 yr old granddaughter who LOVES construction equipment! She carries it around with her and already names all of the equipment. Loves the interactive pages. A good find!

Great Book

My son loves all things truck and construction sites and this book was perfect!. This book has it all and is very interactive! Each page has great detail and so many things to look at.

Great for entertaining toddlers

My son loves this book, he will sit for at least an hour and read it to himself. He’s 3, so it comes in handy when I’m trying to fold laundry and he wants to “help” me.

Coolest book ever

This book is even cooler than I thought. I got it for my then 3 yr old not realizing he was a little young for it. Now, at 4, he can operate all the moving parts better and really enjoys it. Very well made and designed. A must for any co struction kiddo!

2.5-year-old loves it but has already ripped off a few of the pieces. extra supervision required, and no "story" or words to read (which can be a positive in that you have a different experience with the book each time, but if your son insists you "read" it at bedtime, it can be challenging). overall, great variety of vehicles actually from different parts of the world and beautifully put together.

THE BOY LOVED IT!

It was everything a boy into construction could ever want in a book. Thanks, Ultimate Construction Site Book!

Don’t buy

Fell apart first use. Buyer beware, the flaps do not hold up do not buy!! Way too expensive for such poor quality

Excellent series

I bought several books in this “Ultimate book of...” series and my 4 yr old grandson loved them all.

Great purchase!

For kids that love vehicles.

Grandson loves this book.

A winner

Great grandson loved it!

Received in poor/used condition

The book itself looks great however the one I received is ripped on almost every single page. Clearly a used book. Very disappointed.

My 2.5 year old loves this book. It’s interactive and fun.

Perfect

Love it. Our 3 almost 4 year old loves them. Entertained for hours

Great for construction enthusiast!

This is a great book for my 4 year old construction enthusiast. There's a lot of flaps with information on construction vehicles and the construction process. Great book to get lost in but may take awhile to get through if reading before bedtime.

Hours of enjoyment!

Awesome book that will keep kids entertained for hours! My granddaughter has two and I am getting her another soon!

All things construction! So good

Bought this for my nanny kid and he absolutely loves it!

Poor quality control

Very disappointed. The book was plastic wrapped but had already been used. When I opened one of the pages, the flap tore. Can’t recommend this book, unfortunately.

My go-to gist for 1 and 2 year old boys ...

My go-to gist for 1 and 2 year old boys. My 2.5 year old sits for over an hour on one page. Too large for the airplane, wish they had mini-versions.

Awesome, but delicate

My 5 year old son LOVES this book, but it is pretty delicate. He is very careful with this book, but it got damaged early on, thanks to his 4 year old sister reaching in to get in on the fun. It's up on a high shelf for now. Awesome book, but sadly, not one I can leave out all the time.

A terrific children's book

A cute book for children. Recommend.

It is so fun to look thru with flaps and folds everywhere

This book is a pop-up and then some. It is so fun to look thru with flaps and folds everywhere. I bought for my 2-y-o who enjoys it, but it's so involved that any age will love it.

This is a great book and my 3-year-old loves it

This is a great book and my 3-year-old loves it. Some of the flaps/motion pieces are a little hard for young hands to manipulate without breaking/ripping, so adult supervision may be necessary. Beware that the print is very small, so it may be a hard book for parents to read at bedtime when either tired or with low-lighting (I have to tell my son that mommy is too tired to read this as a bedtime book).

Educational FUN

My grandson (3yo) has learned every tool in Anne-Sophie Baumann's first book, so I got him the next two (this, and The Ultimate Book of Space) to continue his education. He can't get enough of these!

So many parts are broken

So many parts are broken , feel so upset

Buy all of this author's books!

Baumann's books are simply lovely. Beautifully illustrated, detailed with a simplicity of design. Honestly, I love these books as much as my toddler does.

Such a great book! wow

Such a great book! wow, great job! hard to find anything like that. so detailed and so many things to flip and move in it! We love this book, and had to but extra ones for my second little one just incase!

So cool!

Best pop up and lift the flap book ever!!! There are so many thing to do in this book! It's insane! My son is crazy about it. It's also very informative if you can get passed all the coolness of the flaps and pulls and pop ups!

Good Quality but boring

Very good quality but kids got bored after a short period.

Love it

Ultimate Confirmation

It's a big hit for my 4 year old nephew. And his mom and dad. I first got him the Ultimate Book of Vehicles. When he saw this Construction book at a store, he asked for it. It's wonderful when a kid asks for a book.

Excellent book. Kids love it.

Poor quality

Received damaged item. The book was still wrapped in cling film but the spine was totally torn from the book. Extremely poor quality and shipping.

maybe the one on cars would be better.

Lots of flips, flaps pull outs for a little boy to play with. My grandson who turned six loves it but it is a little beyond him, maybe the one on cars would be better.

Awesome illustrations - my five year old loves this book

Awesome illustrations - my five year old loves this book. Reading this book helps him understand the whole process of how things are built from beginning to end.

Grandson loves it.

Lots of pull outs and pop ups. Suggestion: go through it and loosen, fold, and bend all the Items before giving it to your four or five year old. I wouldn't suggest it for a early three year old.

Great buy

My 4 yo son loves this book, well worth the bnb price!

Great book for 3-4 years old

Great for construction vehicle lovers.

My son LOVES.....LOVES......is OBSESSED with construction vehicles. I had high hopes for this book and although my son is THRILLED with it, I'm giving it 4 stars because of the way it is laid out. The concept is great. They go through how they build a building, road, boat, bridge, roller coaster, crane, subway, and airplane. The problem is that it's not quite a book you can "read" to your kid. It's not in paragraph form. There are captions everywhere indicating the steps of the construction, but I struggle with the order I'm supposed to read them. Sure, most of it I can figure out, but I had to tell my son to hold on while I looked it over first. It's not like it goes from top to bottom or left to right. The ONLY page that was easy was the building a road page because they laid out the 3 layers of the road (dirt, gravel, asphalt) and went from bottom to the top of the page. It's still great for kids who love construction vehicles. Just be aware that it will be easy for kids to destroy. Make sure they are gentle enough with lift the flap style books before giving this to them.

Highly Recommend for gorwing minds.

Oh my goodness. This is the best book for boys ever. I highly recommend it. We have spent hours enjoying the reading and activities within this book. It is not only fun and entertaining, it is very educational. My son has learned so much without even realizing it. Don't hesitate--buy it!!

My son read this book every night ♡

Irritating grammar errors but the kids love the moving parts

My boys, 5 and nearly 3, love this book! It's got lots of fun parts to open, unfold and generally move. What bothers me is the multiple grammar errors ("its" versus "it's," come on editors!) and poorly worded sentences. Did no one give this a once-over before printing?! Also, at least one of the flaps has the words printed upside-down, and I've only read two pages of the book, so who knows what other surprises abound. Shoddy work, but my kids have yet to notice.

Pop outs arrived torn

Had to return it as it arrived with several of the pop outs torn. Wasn't too disappointed as this book is way to advanced for my 4 year old anyways. Maybe in three more years it would be appropriate.

excellent

Fantastic For The Young Construction Enthusiast

My two and a half year old grandson LOVES this book. He will sit quietly on his own looking through it, and carefully manipulating the multitude of moving parts (articulating boom arms, elevators to lift concrete buckets and move drivers into lifts, etc.). We read it together first, and set the groundless for how gentle he would need to be if he wanted the book to stay fun with all of its moving parts, and though he isn't particularly gentle with other toys (he loves to pretend monster trucks and elephants are stomping other things), he hasn't damaged any part of this book. I also highly recommend The Ultimate Vehicle Book (I think that's the name of it) by the same author. UPDATE! My son tells me that the book has suffered some damage from unattended careless use at his house. I have the Ultimate Vehicle Book at my house, while they have the Ultimate Construction Book at their house. My grandson is careful with the book here, but I suspect there he gets a bit wilder. My son suggests the book is best for an older child. I'd say its a delight for a child to read with an adult or under your supervision/with assistance.

Amazing details, 2yo son loves it!

I usually only write reviews for items that I’ve actually bought on Amazon. However, this book is absolutely mesmerizing for my 2 year old son, and although I bought it from an actual brick and mortar store, I had to review it on here so others can get it. To give you an idea, my son likes books and loves everything construction. We sit down with this book and we look at every part and I explain to him which does what and why. He loves it! I love the book because it’s thorough, yet simple enough for my son to get. Now, keep in mind that he’s generally gentle on his books and our book so far has all of the flaps and moving parts intact and properly working but if your child is rough on their books, you might want to keep it as a read only for special occasions. This book is so worth having, especially for toddlers who are into construction and machinery. The first and last scenes are my son’s most favorite of all. We’ve had the book for a few months now but we’ve read it only in the last few weeks as I held on to it until I thought he’s ready to control himself not to rip parts off.

Interesting but watch out if you are OCD

I believe my 2 yo is really into this book. Whenever he's on his own, he will flip through it. He loves to lift the flaps and move the movable parts but a word of warning for OCD caregivers. I was hovering around so much my kiddo because sometimes he doesn't know whether to lift the flap or to push it up and down or left and right or twist it around so basically, we have A LOT of torn parts within a few days. If you cannot stand watching something like that happen, perhaps wait till your child is older to buy this book else I think it takes away the fun for them if you keep telling them, "NO! You don't do it this way! It's THIS way!" I felt really bad that I backed off and just decided to be resigned to it and tape back/glue back any parts that came out. lol

awesome book but where are the female construction workers?

While my son LOVES this book and it is a really, really cool book, I have a complaint. Of the many little people drawn in this book, I see ZERO women. I am a professor of construction engineering and also a mom. Our field does struggle to attract females. Please -- if you revise this book, consider 50% female workers in your illustrations. And the author is a woman? I'd love to know why she didn't think to put women in the artwork. Also, my son is only 2 and he loves it. He is a little rough on the pop-up elements, so I think I'll get a second copy for when he ruins this one :) ... I just wanted to let parents know you can also buy for younger kiddos. My son is obsessed with construction equipment and this is just a perfect book for him.

Super Fun and Entertaining, but needs gentle hands

My son has the Ultimate Book of Vehicles, which is his absolute favorite book. My five year old nephew liked it too, but to switch it up a bit we got this book for him. He loves it. It's great buy. And thoroughly entertaining. However the flaps are paper and easy to rip so it does need gentle hands.

We also have the Ultimate Book of Vehicles which I highly recommend!

My almost 4 yr old son LOVES this book. So many flaps to open and tabs to pull. The illustrations are bright and engaging. While he has ripped off a few tabs (purposely), this book is still very durable. My almost 5 yr old daughter likes to read it too. We also have the Ultimate Book of Vehicles which I highly recommend!

My kids favorite book

A great value! So many activities and things to explore. My kid never gets bored of this.

This is a wonderful book for children who love love love construction equipment

This is a wonderful book for children who love love love construction equipment. It's a great pop-up and slide the-window book. I would say it's best for kids 6 and up, although my almost-three grandson is careful enough to handle it with an older person helping.

Latest changes make pages too busy, confusing

The version I just bought was printed in 2017 and it is very different than the one I bought in 2015. The pages are very busy and way too much detail. Its hard to understand what's going on. Could not hold the 4 or 7 year olds attention. The tabs and pulls are very different also. Very disappointing. WIll look for earlier book.

My nephew loves this book. Lots of visuals!

I love the colorful

I bought this book for my 2 and 3 year olds on a recent trip to NY. I love the colorful, modern illustrations and the unusual lift flaps that show the various stages of construction. My kids love the book too, although they've already ripped a few of the more delicate paper pieces.

Book that will please kids for many years!

I did not purchase this on Amazon but from a local gift shop. My 4 yr old son loves this book but it is very detailed and great for older kids too. Wonderful book that will be around as your child grows!

books

My daughter gained a lot of knowledge from this book

Fantastic book - makes a great gift

Absolutely beautiful book - I studied and work in construction and my bright 6 year old is fascinated by this book, which is great. Usually reads and gets bored of picture books quickly. Loves all the interactive bits, beautifully and accurately illustrated, and lots of information on each page. Worth every penny and a good purchase for the budding engineer.

Amazingly detailed and good quality

Amazing book, so much to look at, flaps, pull outs, and information. Really well made book

Super book for 4 years and up!

Superb book! So many different "construction" sites from general building to underground to building a circus, just great! Bought it for my 4 year old and he thinks it's great. Gold out pages and flaps to move. Wouldn't recommend for any younger than 4 as some parts of the page are very delicate and fiddly but super book and lots of information for little mind.

The perfect book for my 3 years old son :o)

This book is perfect for a boy who loves constructions and vehicles. Some parts are a bit thin and the paper can break easily but it is easy to fix as well. The other books fo this serie are highly recommended as well such as Ultimate book of vehicles and Ultimate book of the city. I find more symphatic to read this before going to bed instead of watching videos on tablet, etc. Enjoy!

Brilliant

This was a gift for my 2-year old nephew who absolutely loved it! It's an amazing book with fantastic detail. I even learned a few things from it. I wish there was an animal / nature version from the series.

Very informative and descriptive

This is a brilliant series for children altho they need to be handled with care as can easily tear or become damaged

Brilliant book!

Loads to look at and plenty to interact with. One of the few ways to keep my construction mad 3 year old in one place.

Fun and informative

I bought this as a gift for a 7 year old child. Was told they loved it, kept them busy for ages and mum found it really informative which aided discussion with her son.

amazing book

my 2 year old loved this book, so many details, moving parts, a very busy book. worth the money

Don't think it's as good as the hype about it

Don't think it's as good as the hype about it, but my 3 year old builder mad child loves it.

What an incredible book! My 2.5yo son adores it. Highly recommended with masses of wonderful details to talk about or point out.

Great book

Beautiful book! Very impressed. Lots to look at.

we liked the idea very much

I bought it for my 2 year old daughter, we liked the idea very much. There is only one disadvantage of this book - I cannot leave my daughter alone with it)) -it is easy to damage moving elements, so we always read it together.

Great!

Lovely book, great quality and details

Five Stars

Excellent book. We have it at home and just bought it for a friend's child and will buy again!

Great book! Some of the sliding parts need a bit of greasing to get them going. My 3& 1/2 year old loves it!

Awesome

Love it!

Fascinating

As the spouse and I are both construction workers we wanted to get the grandkids excited about construction too and this will be great. It's not one of those "ooh! ahh!" spectacular popups, but the flaps do hide fun secrets like a breakroom, winch, rats, little things. Often the layering is simply useful to illustrate the layers of the worksite or machinery rather than as art. And there are things like a load on a crane that you can slide into position. It's enough to keep a fidgetty kid engaged. The written stuff is explained simply enough for kids to follow and not get bored or confused, yet it is informative and very thorough, and as far as I can tell, accurate. It's not so wordy as to get overwhelming. The backgrounds are elaborate. As a female construction worker I was happy to see they did mix in some women. There's also diversity of age, race, mood, size and hairstyle. So you might do a Where's Waldo-esque thing like challenge your kid to find the guy with the grey mustache or whatnot. And some of the background people have a little story like one guy was digging with a backhoe iirc, and dug up a treasure chest lol! And I liked that one pic had background details showing how wildlife can be protected by planning the work wisely- there is a toad migration tunnel under a freeway iirc. So it's plenty entertaining just to look at the pictures It's the sort of book where you can sit with it for hours on a long car ride, or just look at it for ten minutes, and it will hit the spot. I think it will be enjoyable for many rereadings. The art is cheerful yet realistic. I really can't think of any negatives, it's a great book. But having not gifted it yet, I can't say for sure what kids think.

Tremendous book for kids who are into construction toys!

My 2+ year old grandson loves and knows every construction vehicle, pieces of equipment, how a city’s infrastructure is built now that he has this book. It helps his father is in construction. He absolutely adores and is totally absorbed in this book daily. Of course he requires adult input but once it’s read to him he remembers so much and can now explain how bridges, sewers, cement, etc. are constructed. It’s a large pop up book whose pages fold out both sides of the book so you have four large pages and there are big as well as little things to discover under various flaps. Example, in showing how sewers are built and work, you can find a little rat under ground! Very realistic and detailed. I know he will treasure this book for years to come and he LOVES sharing his new found knowledge. Great purchase. Highly recommend for curious kids.

This book is an excellent gift to many young children fascinated with construction and construction equipment. My son absolutely loves it. It has many folding, rotating and pull-out animations that help bring construction to life. The book has simple text to explain what different machines are and what they are doing. There is a general concrete building construction site animation, crane building animation, bridge building animation, road building animation, subway building animation, plane building animation, roller-coaster building animation, cruise ship yard animation and a circus set up. You can't ask for more! The only thing you have to be careful with is not pushing the animations back into the page using pull-out tubs. The pull-out tubs should only be used for pulling out and not for pushing back in as my son did a several occasions. What it does is that it bends the paper pull-out tub and predisposes it to rapid break. I had to reinforce some of the tubs with scotch tape and teach my son to push animations back pressing and sliding them in using an index finger and a 3rd finger.

Fascinating but somewhat delicate

There's lots of great material for kids and parents interested in construction. Some of the parts are fiddle and delicate though. Every page has some part damaged by my moderately careful three year old after a couple of weeks.

Detailed and busy, quality materials

The perfect book for the toddler obsessed with construction. Moving/ popup parts, so either be one with the Dao or use adult supervision to ensure they don't to the parts of.

Love it and definitely would recommend

Love the book and this series. My 30 month old son kept looking at each of the books and is still fascinated by it. He flips kept him engaged.

Love this book

My 3y old son absolutely loves these types of interactive books and he loved this one. It's fun for the parents too! Very detailed, fun info. Kids just need to be gentle with the tabs and little flaps to avoid ripping them. My son learns so much through these books and repeats the info when we are out and about and sees something similar in our environment.

Great content, not very durable

A great children's book, but the durability could be improved. The interactive pieces in the book tear far too easily.

Well written but a bit delicate

Very informative and well written. Some of the moving pieces don't stand up well to toddler usage but that's not surprising. Really like this series of books and hope it lasts for a couple of years.

excelente y divertido

esta excelentemente hecho y a muy buen precio. Le encanta a mi sobrino mover las piezas, abrir las pestañas... le encantó

One of his favourite books.

My 2 year old loves this collection of books. The is slightly to young so expect some ripping if you give to a child under 3. He has spent hours with this and the other ones in the collection.

A fun book for preschoolers

My son likes it and some of the flaps/interactive parts are neat. The font for reading is small and blends in with the background sometimes and kids need to be gentle so as not to rip the moving parts.

Moving parts very difficult to move, not easy for children to use

Great illustrations but the moving parts are difficult to move. My little nephew accidentally ripped off a couple of pieces as he tried to push/pull them the first time he used the book. Would not buy again.
