Explains Yoga insights, themes, history👍🏼
Brilliant insights into the yogi mind- great history as well as interpreted meaning of yoga traditions. I enjoyed every page, easy to read- interesting for the beginner and advanced yogi. Although I think both sides may have a slight recoil in regards to how some of the information is presented- his matter of fact approach CAN appear arrogant or “holier than thou” but knowing the character of the author, one can conclude that’s not the case. Definitely recommend!
Good read.
Very informative view of yoga from this yogis perspective.

Great Intro to the Philosophy of Yoga
A year and a half ago I was ashamed of myself for how much I had let my health decline. I was doing all the things you aren’t supposed to do, and I was not doing anything that I was supposed to do. While I was unhappy with how I looked, the real kick in the pants for me was that I had trouble playing with my young kids. As a result, I have been able to lose a lot of weight and gain a lot of strength, confidence, serenity, and fun time with my kids. The road to success was a mix of calorie counting, an exercise bike at my local community center, and yoga via YouTube. One of my favorite Youtubers recommended Iyengar’s The Tree of Yoga. I’ve found it to be both accessible and thought-provoking. I can see why it was recommended, as it provides a gateway to philosophies and practices that I as a westerner was only vaguely familiar with. In this book (which is really a collection of lectures given over a longer period of time), Iyengar explains what yoga is by using an extended metaphor of a tree. Since so many of the concepts are new, the publisher has include two very helpful glossaries within the small paperback to help you learn the terminology. The book also includes sections on yoga & health and yoga & the self. The section on health made me a little skeptical. Yoga curing deafness seemed much for me, although it’s certainly helped my overall health, flexibility, strength, and heart, so who am I to judge? Even though this book is relatively short, I think I will revisit at least sections of it often, to help me stay aware of why I’m practicing yoga. I’m looking forward to growing in my practice and understanding of the wisdom of yoga. NOTE: I accidentally bought a used UK copy with British spellings and an incense smell, and I loved both of those things.
An inspiring yoga book on life and philosophy
Operational, very good layout of glossary and index at the end of the book which makes references very easy for Sanskrit terms. Mr Iyengar shared funny stories during his teaching and introduction on physical and spirtual yoga. How the two can become one. Cultural differences between western and eastern yoga. Tricks on union body, mind and soul. Areas for attention as self practitioner or as a teacher. The part I love most is how to put practises into daily life on health, family, love, death and faith. If you find this book interesting, you may also want to refer to "Sparks of Divinity: The Teachings of B.K.S. Iyengar from 1959 to 1975". A book by Mr Iyengar's student, Noelle sharing her study with this great master and a lot more of Mr Iyengar's teaching and inspiring quotes.
The masterpiece of the topic written by renowned author.
The book describes the traditional theoretical foundations of the yoga system. A list of references, an index, and basic Sanskrit terms in the dictionary are also included at the end of the book. There are no descriptions of yoga exercises and postures found in other books by this author.
