BINGO! The only Study Skills book you will need!
Chock full of great ideas and ways to incorporate them. I bought 4 different study skills books since I am a 54 yr. old returning to college after a LONG hiatus, (none of you business, so don’t ask, lol). All of the books have helpful tidbits, but this book gives LOADS of GREAT information! it is the first self-help book that I have read almost all of. And actually, I am looking forward to reading the rest of it this weekend. I’ve never been able to get through these types of books, seriously. If you want to buy only one Study Skills book, make it this one and save your money. Sadly, I spent a fortune.
She gets it!
Chloe Burroughs gives realistic and practical advice for the distance learner, the unsung work-while-studying type of student that doesn’t have the luxury of daily classes and afternoons to sit and revise. Her advice comes from a point you can relate to (as a non traditional learner) because she was you at some point. Her viewpoints and pointers both come from lived experiences as well as current academic articles and research. This book is well worth it for anyone who is looking to start studying again after a long hiatus, add skills though online courses, and those (like me) who cannot leave my job for full-time studies at a traditional brick-and-mortar university or college.
Great Ideas!
Great study aid. Simple explanations with great examples. A great addition to any learners’ bookshelf. Digs into how to make the most of your time while doing double duty learning and working.
An invaluable tool to support you on your journey as a student
As someone who returned to the world of study after an absence of twenty plus years, I faced two dilemmas. One, I'd never actually been taught how to study, and two, I didn't have a clue where to start! This was made all the more difficult as I had chosen to do a degree via distance learning. Cue many a night sobbing over the laptop wine in hand, moaning that my tutors were picky, difficult, unfair, biased, insert the pejorative. It didn't really get much better. My attitude was poor and I certainly didn't possess a growth mindset.....and then along came Chloe Burroughs. Her hints and tips along with her life experiences make her a pleasure to read. Her book is beautifully divided and constructed, and is now my little bible that I keep near to hand. There's no easy way to make distance learning less lonely, but having Chloe's advice and systems to hand makes it so much easier. Her system of planning and reviewing your studies is infallible. If you put in the work in the way that Chloe describes, then you simply cannot fail. I've gone from achieving Grade 2 to now consistently receiving distinctions, with my mind firmly set on achieving a First Class Degree. There are a lot of study guide books and hand books out there, save your money and buy this one.
Invaluable for students of any age!
Loved, loved LOVED this! Could not put it down! I read it cover to cover in a week and having it on my shelf to dip into when I'm struggling, is invaluable. I am going back to education next month with The Open University at the grand old age of 32 😂 I would recommend this book to anyone who is looking to return to study after a period of time away, struggling with getting the grades they want and for people who just want to see what University study is really like. Chloe talks about her own experiences very openly which is great! She comes across human, down to earth and 'normal'. And knowing that she knows, first hand, what and how I am feeling makes me feel that I am now fully equipped to take the next step in my education. Thank you, Chloe, for such a great book!
Absolute necessity for students who have had a big break from learning!
Chloe, thankyou, you are a lifesaver. After deciding to start an honours degree with the Open University, it dawned on me that i had not studied for 12 years. Naturally, i started to worry, ponder withdrawing from the course altogether. Then i came across this little gem! Chloe covers everything from having the right mindset, to teaching yourself how to learn! This book is a must have!
Ideal for Mature Student
Well, at a mature 56 years old I have made the brave and slightly terrifying move into higher education to get a degree in History. I found this book to help greatly in brushing away those worries and have found that I am very well prepared for University Study. In fact I appear to be much better prepared than the other students and was able to hit the ground running. The organising aspect and the checklists were brilliant for me and have dispelled any anxiety that I might have had. I am also in a really nice group at Uni and the students are all very inclusive to me. Thank you Chloe.
Easy to read with lots of great ideas
Light hearted book crammed full of useful study tips and techniques!
Cracking book
As someone who has returned to study as I rapidly approach the wrong side of 40, I didn’t have a clue where to start! This book is amazing. It’s packed with top tips and I’ve learned so much from reading this book. I’ve also subscribed to the authors podcast ‘Chloe Made Me Study’ as it’s clear that the author knows her stuff. If you’ve made the decision to study again and don’t know where to start, you can’t go far wrong with this book.
Motivating
Great book, not only full of useful tips and techniques but I also found it very motivating.
