The Princess and the Kiss: A Story of God's Gift of Purity

Purchased this when my girls were 3 and 5. My husband has been reading it to them ever since...they are now almost 12 and 15!! As a matter of fact just a couple months ago they asked him to read it to them and when I walked in the room there they were...both curled up in his recliner on his lap just as they have done every time he's read it for the last almost 10 years. It has a wonderful and engaging story line and an even better message :)

My children and I really enjoyed this book. I listened to a podcast called “ Dear Young Married Couples” and they recommended this book and I am glad that I purchased it. As a single mother you don’t know how to have certain talks and this book helped me to initiate the conversation on purity.

My Mum read this to me when I was growing up and I loved it! It's such a beautiful, imaginative and innocent depiction of the gift of a kiss and the value of saving these things for your spouse. I'm gifting this book to my flower girls and am excited for the moments that they'll spend reading this with their own mother. Highly, highly recommend this book to anyone!

Even today's cartoons are filled with little girls longing for the attention of a boy and that first kiss. Give your daughter the gift of self worth and the knowledge that GOD values her above all else.

Beautiful story of the importance and value of purity and chastity - great illustrations, and easy enough to read for a young person probably in the middle elementary school years. The book is not "preachy" but it does communicate clearly that God's design for relationships is abstinence until marriage. If young people are to return to this ideal standard, they must capture the vision for purity at a young age and cherish that vision though the tumultuous teens and chaotic college years. Christian parents should be encouraging their children from the youngest ages to pursue God with all their heart, mind and soul and to appreciate one of the greatest gifts that God has given each of us which we can one day give to the one we marry. Highly recommended.

We used this book along with it's curriculum guide (bought at Mardels)to teach a purity class at our United Methodist Church. We only had about 9 weeks to teach all 20 lessons which wasn't too difficult because the lessons are not very long and can easily compliment each other. Our church pastor received it very well and everyone was very supportive, we had the full blessing of God to go forward with this! It was a huge success and the parents were very receptive and wonderfully supportive with this. We also did the boys book The Squire and the Scroll. I highly recommend this and the Squire and the Scroll. It's never too early to start teaching about purity, and this book does it in a very good way. It talks about "protecting your kiss."

As an EXTREMELY picky traditional Catholic homeschooler, I usually have a difficult time finding books that are in sync with keeping our children pure and innocent yet also preparing them for the world. This book does both. Even thought the book is not Catholic, it is very Christian and has nothing contrary to the Catholic faith in my opinion. Quite the contrary, it backs up exactly what I want to teach my daughter, and in a beautiful, innocent, and captivating way. The illustrations are absolutely beautiful and my 4 year old daughter just LOVED the book. The two younger toddler boys happened to like them alot as well, even if they don't understand the finer details! The wonderful thing about this book is that it goes the "extra mile". Not only does it teach that in order to keep your purity you must keep your virginity, but it also (rightly) teaches that there's alot more to purity than just not going that "last step", but that saving your "kiss" is an honorable thing also to be treasured. Highly recommend!

The illustrations are captivating and the story is written very well. With three girls ages 2-6, I am always on the lookout for books that will inspire them to be lovely, pure and Godly. This one fits the bill 100%. My daughters ask me to read this book three or four times a day and like to pretend to be the princess waiting to give her kiss to a worthy man. A great book for girls of all ages inspiring them to keep their purity for the right man, one who is himself pure and chaste. If you have girls, you MUST get this book!

Almost every little girl dreams of being a princess of some sort and has her own version of her own "knight in shining armor" riding on a "white horse". While this book contains no horses with dashing and rich young rider, it is definitely all princess! It bares many similarities to the classic fairy tale: a princess in need of her own personal hero. However, the book puts a needed and refreshing twist on the reality of life. Instead of falling over the first guy who shows interest in her (thereby giving away her precious purity and committing to life with a young man too hastily), this young princess is a wise one, looking at the character of each young man in question. In classic fairytale fashion, many outwardly appealing men and their marriage offers fall short of her standards. The princess despairs, as does every girl at one point in life, but the virtue of waiting and the contentment of waiting on God's time becomes a serious theme. In the end, she is rewarded for her wait and the humble farmer - committed, loving, godly and pure - comes to be HER hero. Little girls in this day and age are bombarded with lies about boys, how to act around them and what should be expected of them. TV, media, books and sadly even peers, influence these young and vulnerable hearts to think that they need to be willing to give up the precious gifts God has bestowed on them in order to get what they want. This book instead paints the picture of godly purity: encouraging young girls - and their impressionable hearts - to wait, look at reality and above all, look to the Lord who has a perfect plan for her if she's willing to follow. May this book be a blessing in your house as it has been in ours! We have used this not only in our home but I (as a summer camp counselor) have had the chance to share the story (and it was enjoyed!) with many young girls over the last two years. Praise be to God for using Mrs. Bishop as a tool to reach out to the young girls.

This is a beautiful book. It is the story of a princess who saves her first kiss for the altar of marriage. Many suitors come who are not worthy of her kiss, and she wisely sends them all away. She then recognizes the one who also saved his kiss for his wife as worthy. The art of the book is beautiful, and the concepts of purity and waiting are presented in an accessible way for young children. I bought a copy for my son, and he recognized that the only one worthy of the princess was the one who saved his kiss.

This book has a great message for children - you a precious and you are worth waiting for. The secular message our children are constantly bombarded with leave the children with complete emptiness. This book is very well written and it has a substantial message. My 12 yr old son received it in his Easter basket and enjoyed reading it. I highly recommend this book as well as the Squire and the Scroll for the same reason.

Ordered this for my girls to help teach them purity and how to respect themselves physically. The story is so sweet and enduring. They both love to read it, and so does mommy, lol, really wish I'd been like the princess in the book when I was younger

I love this book. I got if for my daughter hoping to start presenting the message of purity. Although she's still very young, she loves the Princess approach. The point of the story is presented brilliantly, while the illustrations are lively and really bring the idea and the tone to life. A treasure for a society that has largely forgotten the importance of what's sacred.

We bought 4 of these books - all for gifts for our granddaughters. It's a beautiful book with a beautiful story and full of truths. We're actually saving them as Christmas gifts but will be giving them to our son and son-in-laws and their daughters as a combined gift. This is definitely a book that daddies need to read to their little girls!

What a wonderful book to introduce the topic of romance with your child. It's important to start talking about love early with children, and tools like these are a wonderful way to do it. This book tells the story of a king and queen who kept the princess' kiss safe until she was old enough to choose who to give it to. She met many different suitors, but was wise enough to wait for one who had saved his kiss for her. Love this book!

This is an amazing book! We started reading it when my daughter was 2, and now that she's 6 it's very easy to implement modesty and rules for kissing (grandparents, family, etc.) based on conversations we had after reading this book. I give it as a shower gift!

This is a wonderful story of purity. It also shows the dilemma many adults face when they are ready to marry. They might not be able to find someone that they can marry. This story shows that if you remain pure and wait for the right time, God will provide just the right person.

This is my favorite book to read to my two daughter & my son, yes my son! I believe boys should hear this story as well. We have read it many times & it is a great way to start discussions about purity. We follow w/ a prayer for their future spouses. Give this to any girl or boy below the age of ten and you are giving more than just a book but just possibly a way out of the despair that has destroyed families since the 1960s "free love" revolution. This book teaches children what is important in love and is a perfect antidote to the poison that most young minds are exposed to on a daily basis. Later, as adults, they may remember the lessons of this book and perhaps avoid the disastrous decisions that ruin young lives.

I myself am waiting for the Lord to bring the right man into my life so this book means a lot. When I have children one day this is a book I would love to read to them. loved this book when i found it years ago. i have been introducing it to my 4 and 5 year old this year. we have talked about the glowing light and how it is called a kiss but doesnt look like one. it was a fun way to talk about their bodies and how they are special and unique and precious. I used it as a body safety talk by likening the mom and dad keeping the kiss safe with 'your body is yours and no one is to look or touch it accept in certain times and places until your big enough to do it yourself." also talking about why they have to keep their clothes on and can't answer the door naked. hehe. no the book doesn't address these, it just shows a princess waiting for a guy. and waiting. and waiting. and waiting. but its pretty. and there are other books that will address living your life and not waiting around for a man, we read those too. don't use this as a purity book if your not willing to actually address whatever purity your trying to convey. i know to many people who think they could get pregnant from a kiss and this might make that one aspect of sexuality to important if your not willing to talk, but it can be a great talking book.. if your willing. (also if you look carefully you will find one old man on almost every page with the suiters who seems to be pointing out wisdom about that suitor love that)

With all the media out there that is available to our children (not all of it good for them) it's nice to know that there are some godly Christian authors who will take a strong and positive stand for something God values highly...purity prior to marriage. The illustrations are artistically beautiful as well. The Princess and the Kiss is a delightful and refreshing story of a princess who takes the advice of her parents, the king and queen, treasures her gift from God, the kiss, and then wisely decides upon the man to marry based upon his humble testimony. Prior to her ultimate decision and with the blessing of her parents, she has to carefully weed out other suitors who come to call. These suitors/princes offer her strength/protection, romance and riches. She turns them all away as she discerns that these things will not stand the test of time. She chooses her husband, a common and kind man, who has saved his special kiss just for her who also learns that she has done the same thing. I bought this book for our daughter last Christmas, 2011 and for my niece this Christmas 2012. Great gift idea! I love the message in this book, which teaches little ladies how precious they are and that there is one prince for every princess! I know there have been negative reviews on this book but I don't think we should take the book too personal. It's not directly about sex...but, I doubt there's a girl in the world who has had sex before a kiss. Small things lead to big things and I believe this book only shows how we can guide our girls and save them from hurt and heartache and genuinely have a beautiful relationship with "the One" when the time comes for dating and eventually marriage! Our girls deserve the very best because they are precious and so is this book!

We bought this as a birthday gift for our grandaughter on the recommendation of her mother.

I bought this book as a Christmas present for my 8 year old autistic daughter, who has a particular love of reading. Now, two months later, it remains her favorite book. It is written in true fairy tale style, which she loves, and it seems to have helped her make some sense of what kissing is all about, and why I only kiss Daddy on the lips, etc. I love that this teaches her to value herself, and to not carelessly let just any man into her life. She is a little young to fully understand it, but it definitely helps my daughter learn to look past a person's appearance and instead at their character when choosing who to let into their life.

I have two boys and I bought this book... why, well, I want them to be God honor men when grow up. This book will teach them what not to be and what to be. I read to them the Squire and Scroll which is by the same author, a must! I know these books will be handed down to my children's children... and children. Note, age does not matter here. If you have a teen, please please please please read this book to them. It matter more than you will ever know.

I was having a very hard time explaining to my daughter chastity in her preschool and kindergarten ages. This book makes it so simple! Great for parents who are struggling to find the words to tell their daughters how important and valuable their "kiss" really is. Another great element: it counter acts society in that it teaches a girl to value keep her kiss too! For those who might not marry later in life. Also spring boards for how to find a godly spouse and so much more. Every Christian home should own this book.

This book is such a treasure! It offers girls and boys alike (although my daughters love it much more than my son, but my son loves hearing the silly voices on the CD :) a gentle introduction and beginning understand about making wise choices and the importance of purity and something to be cherished and protected. This book has deeply touched the lives of my children and will for many years to come. It is absolutely beautifully written and illustrated. I am so excited to have this book for my little girls! I paid more than I normally would for a storybook and it is totally worth it! An enjoyable story and pictures to my girls and wonderful lesson! It teaches not only about saving your kiss for the right one but seeing through men that don't truly care and value you and being wary of flattery and empty promises in a way that small children can understand!

Love the story do does my 4 year old daughter and my 8 year old son. We talk about with my son why he wouldn't want a princess who wanted to marry him because he is so strong or romantic or wealthy. Just like the princess doesn't want to marry Prince peacock, prince romance or prince treasurechest. Really well written story I wish the boys version was as good.

I bought this book for my daughter years ago and just bought it again as a baby shower gift. It is a beautiful book and story that can be read to your little girl for many years to come and teach about purity.

The story and pictures are very lovely. I was hoping for this to be a keepsake book. I bought this book new it came damaged . The middle page is creased down the center. I gave it as a gift. It was to late to return it for another one. I am not happy about thus.

The topic of purity addressed targets all audiences, perfectly illustrating the need for each individual to retain his/her kiss for another who has likewise managed his/her own prudently. The concept of selecting a mate based upon character types is eloquently treated using depictions which are readily relatable. The narrative voice is shrouded in an aura of wise principles, gently authoritative in its presentation.

Loved this sweet and simple way to introduce purity to my daughters. I bought it for my 5 year old, my 8 year old is the one who loves to read it over and over. So it may be better for older girls. But its a beautiful book and I imagine it wil be treasure.d

Not for 4 years or under! So many words per page and a lot of big words, it truly is a wonderful and godly book but I would say get it if your daughter is 5 years or older!

My girls, 4 and 10 love this book. I like that it takes a some what difficult subject and makes it so easy to understand. I would recomend this book to anyone who may have a little girl in their life.

I got this for my granddaughters, hoping to offer them insight into realizing how special their love is. However all the princes that had the worldly values were ugly and rude. No one would marry them anyway. Of course the prince with the wholesome values was handsome and kind. NOT REALISTIC! The potential is there but the pictures get in the way of the message.

Love this and the Squire and the scroll. This is something I read to both my boys and girls to help them think about the kind of person they want to marry and the kind of person they will be to marry. It creates MANY great conversations....even if they are called to singleness, gives what I read in the scriptures as God's vision for our sexuality in a clear and simply way. It also helps to tell the stories of my first kiss (like a fish) or the guy that lied to me . . . Don't kiss people too soon.

A wonderful story to illustrate the simplicity of purity to your young child. It is never to early to start reinforcing Bible truths such as the ones illustrated in this book. And while purity is a simple concept, it will take a serious pursuit along with a continual yielding to the Holy Spirit to attain it.
