Born in 1907 Nakahara Chuya was one of the most gifted and
colourful of Japan’s early modern poets. A bohemian romantic,
his death at the early age of thirty, coupled with the delicacy of his
imagery, have led to him being compared to the greatest of French symbolist poets.
Since the Second World War Nakahara’s stature has risen, and his
poetry is now ranked among the finest Japanese verse of the 20th
century. Influenced by both Symbolism and Dada, he created
lyrics renowned for their songlike eloquence, their personal
imagery and their poignant charm.
This selection of poems from throughout Nakahara’s creative life
includes collected and uncollected work and draws on recent
scholarship to give a full account of this extraordinary figure.

In case another is a fan of Bungou Stray Dogs, this is the book to get. It has the infamous Sheep Song, as well as a variety of other good selections.

Wonderful book of poetry! I bought because of two anime’s - Bungo Stray Dogs and Bungo & Alchemist: Gears of Judgement both containing a character derived from this author. Rewarded with beautiful poetry!!

I love this book and everything about it. Of course, what I love the most is Chuya's work. Sometimes it feels as if someone took a peek inside my soul and wrote about it. It made me fall in love with Chuya's poetry. The book in itself is great too, the cover feels a bit like rubber and I never owned any book like this, I loved it. I'm also fond of the font, the Japanese caligraphy announcing the title of each section in this collection, the notes!!! The notes are VERY helpful. I loved the introduction too, although I would appreciate a bit more info on the author.

I love this man and all his work, the book itself is amazing and the price is the best I found!! The only thing is the shipping company. The book came to me dirty and with one of the sides kinda crushed... Also they didn't came to my house to deliver it, they took it directly to the "pick up point" because it was Christmas and the poor lady at the pick up point was exhausted and angry with the deliveryman company. Even so, this book was worth it, I love it.

Es exactamente el libro que mi hija deseaba, poder tener los poemas originales junto a su traducción en inglés ayuda mucho en la comprensión del pensamiento del autor y a aprender un poco de su lengua. Por ponerle una pega, hubiera sido preferible una encuadernación en tapa dura, pero ya sabíamos que estos libros se editan en tapa blanda.

Loved this book. The book was in perfect condition and the edition is very nice. Would just add the original versions and it would a perfect book.
