The Pocket Book of Stones, Revised Edition: Who They Are and What They Teach

I'm relatively new to learning about and working with stones and crystals, and my interest in them is both scientific and metaphysical. This came recommended to me by a friend who has been working with crystal healing for many years as a good basic resource to the metaphysical aspect of stones and crystals. I will say that it's compact, and the appendices indicating various physical and mental conditions cross-referenced with the stones that are apparently helpful for them is useful and convenient if one is interested in that sort of thing. That said, there is a disproportionate amount of information included on so-called "Azeztulite" crystals, which just happen to be a discovery by the author (who has also trademarked them and sells them exclusively in his Vermont-based shop and online business). From what I've researched, there is geologically no such thing as "Azeztulite"; it's simply a kind of common white quartz crystal under a different name. However, this book contains nearly a dozen varieties of "Azeztulite" among its contents, as well as a rather involved appendix relating their "discovery". (Apparently, their existence was disclosed to the author by celestial beings a decade or so ago, and "new" sources and varieties have regularly been "revealed" since then.) As a result, much of this book seems more part of a marketing strategy than a reliable resource. I've dipped into another friend's copy of Judy Hall's "The Crystal Bible" (which also includes some interesting information on how stones and crystals are formed, which Simmons' book lacks) and wish I had bought that instead. (Incidentally, the copy I received was damaged. My review applies only to the content of the book, however, not the condition in which I received it.) UPDATE: A few minutes' worth of search engine research shows that "Azeztulite" isn't the only crystal in this book that the author has "discovered" and copyrighted: a look at his website [...] indicates that there are several more stones -- including "Agnitite", "Anandalite", "Azumar", "Crimson cuprite", "Healerite", and "Kaurilite", in addition to the aformentioned varieties of "Azezulite" -- which he has similarly trademarked and which apparently aren't recognized as valid geologic specimens either. Nonetheless, these stones are included in the book with no indication that they are trademarked by the author and evidently only sold through his business. Whether or not one believes in the healing properties of stones and crystals, that indicates some seriously negative energy to me right there.

i have the larger version and still enjoy the depth that it goes into on each stone, but this small book has more of the stones I've recently added to my crystal healing collection. It makes it so much simpler to quickly look up the benefits of a stone for a client, if I need to know more. It's also the perfect size to have with my bag of crystals. To be clear, I haven't really picked up the big Simon's book since i got this one.

This book is soo amazing!! I have the larger version and its my favorite book for deep diving into each stone..but the only reason I didnt use it as mucn was that it was hard to travel with and even just open and use..but this one is amazing! Its small and its PACKED woth tons of crystals that are popular to rare. I am very happy with it!

i LOVE this book!!! definitely the most user friendly, informative book on crystal both in their strengths to how they were formed, etc. prior to this, i hadn't found a nice gemstone book that i knew was reliable and precise. if you are looking for a gem book, buy this for sure!!! and the price is a steal. i have seen this in stores for twice the price.

This is a very good guide to stones. The small version doesn't feature as many stones as the large edition, but this is still a great copy. You can take this one along with you anywhere, whereas you wouldn't want to cart the large edition, it's quite large. Many people have this book and use it regularly (myself included). It's considered the most comprehensive guide to stones out there!

Very informative and with great pictures. Although they list the dimensions it appeared smaller than what i thought it would be. However my daughter loves it fits nicely in her purse and she can take it to the gem shop with her as reference as to what she wanted.

Absolutely love this book has an index with all the names, has pictures for each one and gives a little description of each one and there benefits etc, perfect for a quick run through of what stone your wanting to know about.

I like the book alot. It provide soo much information. I'm not super into stones but it is interesting learning about different types, where they are originated at and their purpose. Not sure how accurate their information is but it is definitely interesting! I would definitely recommend this book to anyone curious of the Charkas, Emotions, Physical & Spiritual purpose.

Very informative guide, I am referring to it all the time.

I’ve tried many apps that say their the complete crystal guide and they always fall short. Because I had the original copy of this book in paperback I decided to get it in digital. Yes, this revised copy is not at complete as the original because they removed some crystals to add more, but it’s still worth the money. Plus it’s great for on the fly crystal research.

For a moment, I forgot I ordered a Pocket size edition. It is small book but actually quite nice and easy to carry with you. I am not sure if I believe the "spiritual" information on each page - but I have to admit, I found that spiritual information to be rather interesting. The book is full of scientific information also. So - with this pocket edition you get a little bit of everything. I am really glad I purchased it.

I Love this book so many crystals to learn about, there were a few cross referenced crystal that weren't In the book(moldavite). I liked the meditation in the back. The size is perfect for taking with you to a crystal shop or keeping in your car.

I have the big one, thought might be nice to have the pocket to take with me. I will relocating in April close to a place where semi precious stones can be found. It meets my expectations.

Some specimens I search are not present, but there are so many gems, sometimes variously named, I can hardly expect an unabridged collection anywhere. Well rounded details, given the compact nature of the book. Excellent help.

This is a great little book to throw in a bag or purse or your car for reference. Though it is small, it contains a lot of information and the photos of the stones are nice and clear.

This book is just ok. It has alot of stones that is difficult to find so some of the info is useless. The print is really small also.

Well Written, Comprehensive, Compact, Priced Well

Great book for those interested in learning about stones. I have the larger edition of this book and have given. several away as gifts so when I found this smaller version that I can take with me I knew I had to have it. It makes it easier to throw into a bag when I go to a show so I can do a quick check on stones that I am looking at

Awesome pocket book perfect for newbies

Great portable reference book. A mini-version of the Book of Stones, it offers clarity and wisdom for each stone. Size makes it easy to transport when wanting to have information available. Brief but comprehensive, the Pocket Book of Stones has color photographs to help identify each crystal, a guide to the qualities of the stone, and also describes the physical, emotional and spiritual aspects that correspond to each stone. Glad to have the "new" stones included in this edition.

Writing to small to read . Wish the book was error with more easy to read text

This book may be small in size (4.5" by 5") so it is easy to carry around, but it has a lot of information. This was recommended to me as a good first source of information and I agree. Each crystal has its own page and contains information about its chakra connection, element, and areas for potential healing. The author also shares what other crystals they harmonize with. The back has a terrific index and a section with tips on how to meditate with crystals if you are so inclined. This is one of my go-to books.

I've collected stones as long as I've been conscious, and walk nowhere without scanning the ground for new pieces to collect. Now I can ponder beautiful photographic examples, while expanding my mind and Imagination. What a glorious opportunity! I reviewed a digital ARC provided via NetGalley. No remuneration was exchanged.

A friend recommended this book and it is very informative and complete. Great for beginners as it is easy to understand. I highly recommend it as well.

Mr. Simmons owns the rights/sources to most, if not all, of the stones that are in his book. I was disappointed that the book's sole basis was to create a market to sell HIS property at super inflated prices. Not at all in line with the purpose of crystals. Don't waste your money. I use the Crystal Bible all the time and will soon have to replace it as it worn and frayed! I purchased the initial book and consider it a waste of money. The book is no longer in my library.

I wanted a book about stones, their structure, where they are found, etc. This book was all about new age and the like. I'm not saying it's wrong or right. Only that I didn't get that from the description. Maybe I read it wrong.

Its the perfect size and has most of the stones that I have... I use this almost daily. Works well with tarot readings when I incorporate crystals.
