easy to read, but very informative

I really learned a lot from reading this book, which is well written and holds your attention. I recommend it highly.

Great book for the non-scientist

Written in an interesting and layman-friendly way, without being dumbed down. Interesting accounts of a lot of the recent discoveries.

Just the facts, please

The science part of the book is excellent. I cut out two stars because the authors can’t figure out that their opinions are A. not facts, and B. something I’m not interested in. The digression in the Mars section made me want to give up entirely because it was an annoying waste of my time, and the audiobook is hard to skip past lest you miss something else. It didn’t help that I was already poking holes into what they were saying as they were saying it. I’ll definitely be checking to see if the two guys on here are involved in anything else so I’ll know not to read that book and thus waste my time dodging very bad philosophy when I wanted pure astronomy.

A wonderful update.

Being old enough to remember the furor of Sputnik as a child, and having as a youth followed the progression of space exploration culminating in the Apollo missions, as an adult with life’s other demands swirling about, I paid little interest in the sporadic discoveries being made. Now retired, I desired a text that could summarize and update me on what I had not paid close attention to for several decades. The Planets did not disappoint. What wonderful advances facilitated by the computer age and unmanned exploration! The wonder experienced in my youth were brought back far beyond anything imaginable in the late ‘50’s. A new understanding of a grand “new” solar system.

Interesting, detailed and educational book.

I feel that this is an extremely wonderful and educational book. It provides detailed explanations on the planets in our Solar System and how certain phenomena came to be. It is written in an interesting way as well, allowing me to be constantly engaged. It is a very suitable book for students as well as the general public who would like to learn more about our Solar System.

interesting astronomy larded with pious speechmaking

I must agree with historian1912: the author of this otherwise interesting book doesn’t seem to know when to keep his opinions to himself. He doesn’t simply think he’s smart, he’s smarter than.

Who Knew?

This is an amazing book. I have not watched the television show that accompanies this book so the information is new to me. Our solar system is a much more intricate and complex system than I could ever imagine. This book makes it so clear. It is well worth the read.

Let's go on knowing our origins

This book has been very interesting to me because it has allowed me to know the Solar System in a way that has made me feel inspired. I am so happy I chose this title.

Full of information

The book is excellent. On my Kindle the pictures are unuseable :-(
