The Pigeon HAS to Go to School!

I'm a first grade teacher and Mo Willems books are LOVED by my classes. This book got here today (damaged cover with splotches, but Amazon CS took care of it), and I LOVE IT! It will be the book I read the first day of school to my 1st graders to help break the ice, but also to develop an interest in Pigeon books that we have in our classroom library. Another Pigeon book series winner.

I don't know how Mo Willems does it but The Pigeon Has to Go to School is just as fantastic as the rest of the series! In true Pigeon form we find him fighting this horrible injustice with every fiber of his being taking the reader along on his emotional journey. This story addresses many of the fears and anxieties that little ones feel as they get ready to go to school for the first time in a fun and silly way. This is a perfect book for back to school and will have kids laughing and giggling as they face their fears with Pigeon.

My 7-year-old granddaughter just got through reading this book. It did make her laugh. She thinks it is a good book for children 3years and older--probably best for a four-year-old. She thought it addressed the things children would be worried about just as they were to begin school. She thought the illustrations were funny. It is an easy book for a beginning reader. She loves all the pigeon books.

The book is another fantastic addition to the collection for any Mo Willems fan, particularly a youngster who is getting ready to start school. I am an elementary school librarian, and am looking forward to starting off the year with this for my prekindergarten and kindergarten students. It humorously tackles some of those fears children have about school. My only complaint is actually about Amazon. The cover of the book was damaged. It's minor, the bottom of the book looks like it got hit on the corner of something and there is a small scratch above Pigeon's head. No biggie, but still disappointing.

This book is absolutely wonderful— just like all other pigeon books. My daughter has speech delay and LOVES these books. We laugh so much with the pigeon. Thanks for a great addition, Mo!

It's about a pigeon that doesn't want to go to school because he already knows everything, he starts talking about all the "what if/why/what"(s) of school, he has a positive thought about school, and then he CAN'T WAIT to go to school and ride the bus!

I purchased this book amongst 20 others and my 7 year old son loves it the MOST. We read it through the first two months of school and we just read it yesterday evening. This is his go-to book when we read before bedtime. He returned to school after e-learning since March 2020 when the schools closed to flatten the Covid-19 curve. He returned to brick and mortar at a brand new school with no welcome committee, no activity from PTA to connect with others and we could not walk him to his class or pass the entrance gate. The open house was a zoom meeting. So his anxiety at a new school was pretty rough. The pigeon is funny and sometimes spastic. It's cute! This book is adorable and humorous and isn't emotionally heavy for the parent or child. It is worth the money and I recommend it.

My sons kindergarten teacher read this to his kindergarten class (during remote classes) and my son absolutely loves it. He laughs so hard when we’re reading it! It’s a very cute book and reminds children to see all the positive things about school instead of focusing on the unknown. (The book teaches what the unknown things are as well) my son does not have an issue with reading he book either, other then containing his laughter. I would definitely recommend

I am sure this is a great book. It would be nice if some quality control was done before this was shipped out. The entire entire interior of the book is upside down.

Part of Amazon’s Kids Prime Book Box. My grandson enjoyed it very much. Now that he is a more mature 6 year old who can read “really good”, he has given it to his brand new 4-month old brother. He really does read it to his brother, who laughs and giggles and “talks” to his big brother while being read to. Damon, the mature 6-year old, gives credit to this book for helping him learn to read.

Whiney complaining throughout the book, not one positive uplifting word. Not even a salvaging moral at the end of the book.

The contents of the book is classic "Pigeon" and I love it, but the physical condition of the book was less than expected. The Ink was smudged, there were scarred imprints on the cover, and a scratch.

The Pigeon Has to Go to School did not meet expectations and it was not funny as previous books. I just cant believe how they screw it up. It should be simple and straightforward to write a book on school topic and make kids laugh. It just does not work as previous books. Not sure if it can help making your kids to like school as it made them to like taking a bath or sharing food.

My son loves the Pigeon collection. He especially likes when the pigeon is adamant about not going to school. Very realistic. I liked that the pigeon reasoned for himself on why it’s important to do so. And the ending leads to another title to read from the collection.

I’m not sure why this book gets such great reviews. We were not at all impressed. Will be returning.

My son loves Mo Williems's books. He is starting preschool and we have done a lot to prepare him for his first day. Overall, he was pretty excited. This book, however, introduced a lot of doubts and questions that he never had about school. The main issue with this book is that the doubts and fears about school were never fully addressed at the end of the story. The take away (for a child) is that despite the concerns, the pigeon is excited to go to school because he gets to ride a school bus. My preschooler will not be riding a school bus so he cannot relate. Instead, he now has concerns about all the different things that the pigeon has brought up. As a parent, I made the mistake of not reading the book ahead of time and just assumed that it was another appropriate book based on the author and his other stories.

It's hard to go wrong with the pigeon, and this one is right up there with the pigeon needs a bath for me (our favorite)! It does a better job of showing and explaining his emotions than I felt like the feelings board book did, does a great bus callback, has very funny gags and makes a good argument for going to school. I'm hopeful this won't be the last pigeon in school book!

Another great book. My first graders loved hearing me read this to them. We talked about how we all feel scared sometimes when we face the unknown. Then we did a drawing project with pigeon as the subject. The students keep asking me to read it over and over again.

The book is good, arrives on time. But in my opinion got my son scared about school, my mistake was read it for first time to him instead of checking the content first.

We bought this for our 3 year old before he began preschool. He loves it. What a fun book. Some things are not applicable to him yet like riding the bus but he doesn't seem to mind or notice. So cute, would definitely recommend!

My boys, ages 8 and 5, love the Mo Willems books and this one is no exception! It’s cute and wonderfully illustrated. My boys love the pigeon and his attitude. I was excited to get this because it’s almost back to school time for both boys. It’s being read every night! My 8 year old almost has it memorized and the 5 year old is working on it. I love when they fall in love with a book like this!!

Like all the installments in Mr. Willum’s Pigeon series, this is an hysterical, compulsively interactive book you’ll love reading with your kids as much as they will. After they’ve grown up, you’ll probably still want to fight with them over who gets to keep them when they move out! So, maybe plan on getting two copies of each.

Cute story and was so excited to receive it before school starts- but the ink must’ve smeared and makes the cover look used. Disappointed since I’ll be using this for years to come.

How about that? If your kid's really into pigeons, 5 stars. If they hate school, this is no panacea.

Pigeon books are a fave in our house. Pigeon’s relatability to kids and parents alike is remarkable. The Pigeon Has To Go To School is highly recommended, along with the rest of Mo Willems’ dramatic works.

We love the cheeky pigeon! My son first found the pigeon on you tube, I then realized it is a book series. This was our first out of the 2 pigeon books we have and we loved it, we bought it when my son started Kindergarten.

When the book got here, the first thing I did was read it. The book is amazing and I can't wait to read it with my littles! However, the front of the book was all scuffed up. Since this is a Christmas present, I was very disappointed that the book doesn't look brand new like I bought it.

My only complaint is it came out a year too late. I have officially retired so I no longer have a kindergarten class to read it to. I LOVE this book. My students would also have loved it. It is a must. Just make sure you read the bus book before this one.

My 4 year old had taken to reading Mo Willem's books and loves them. And this is one of his favorites. It also nicely taps into the excitement for kids going to school for the first time. It's a lovely book for kids to start their entry into the world of reading and hilarious to boot!

Uninteresting to 4 year old.....drab colors...no story.....just not what i thought it would be.

My I read this book to my 2 sons (ages 3 and 4) and we all laughed out loud! Absolutely adorable and the reference to the original story "Don't Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus!" was genius! 5 Stars!

Love these books. My 6 year old started reading them in school and when I noticed him reading along during homeschooling, and having fun doing so, I ended up getting him 3 different ones for his birthday. AND he was actually excited to open a book as a present! (Wow!!!) Great set of books. Love the stories and the format! And my 6 year old can almost read them all the way through without a huge struggle. Great beginning reader book.

Good book - made my son laugh. Unfortunately, he said they already read this at school. Also, I don't think he will want to read it over and over due to the subject. Still, for the price, a good buy.

My grandchildren like these books and I didn't think they were so great until it came in and I brought it over to them. Not only were they able to read the words, but the emotion in the pictures had them reading them with enthusiasm. A great learning series. My granddaughters recently turned 5.

I bought this book for the first day of school of my nephew and it was incredible, we are Pigeon lovers, Unfortunately my order was left outside of the mailbox during a rainy day and was a little bit wet, but it has a hard book cover and we were able to dry it

Piggy and Gerald books make me laugh, as well as the 4 yr. old I was reading it to. The stories and pictures are simple, but allows for predicting what will happen next. Children of all ages love these characters.

My 6-year old loves these books and this one did not disappoint! After checking it out of the school library, we had to get her her own copy for her birthday. The Pigeon is so funny and this book always makes her laugh. Very cute.

Mo Willems is by far my favorite Author of children’s books- The Pigeon books and Piggie and Elephant books are great for socio-emotional learning and understanding. This book was no different! I LOVE THIS book! Will be reading to my three year old for the next week on school nights. He loves these books and this was is so wonderful!

The Pigeon is a favorite story book character of all the kids in our house. His adventures always make us laugh and this story is no exception. Our children were looking forward to this book’s arrival and we have read it most days since. It’s quickly become one of our favorite Mo Willems books.

Typically I’m not a Mo Willems fan but my kindergarteners loved this book! It had a little meat to eat so it made it easier to ask questions during the reading. This is good to ease the first day nerves! They thought it was a hilarious book!

The story captures all the thoughts of my grade school son. But for some reason the copy i have is upside. It looks the cover was upside down when it was bound together.

I really like his books and my grandson is the pigeon incarnate and it is a funny way to show his actions from a distance esp. the rage page but the pigeon always calms down after thinking about it.

I have a toddler that has anxiety about day care…I can’t see how this book could help a child of any age. I got sucked in by the positive reviews..luckily I read it alone before we did it together.. because it’s not at all appropriate! Returning…won’t even consider donating it! 👎

Loved this book! It appears to be intended for children getting school-ready but was still a great read for my son who just finished Kindergarten and my daughter who won’t start school til next year. We have the other books in the series and loved this as the newest addition to the Pigeon series.

I've long been a fan of Mo Willems' children's books, and with my youngest niece starting school this fall, I knew she had to have this newest one. She and her older sisters loved it - his books are among their favorites too. It has the same quirky humor as the other pigeon books and bolsters a child's confidence if they're nervous about school.

Can’t go wrong with Mo Willems!

I have to say I was a little disappointed with this book. The majority of the book was about a whining bratty chicken. I had hoped that the book would have a larger emphasis on how great school was especially since it is targeting kindergarteners.

I bought this book so my son can transition into school easily and I think I helped but will have to wait till school starts.

Hardcover for tons of reading. So fun for reluctant kids on their way back to school. We love the pigeon series.

Great book by a brilliant artist! Mo Willems is charming, as are his books. And, I just love the matte cover and high quality of the paper. Makes a nice gift.

Good book for a kindergartener who's a little anxious/nervous about starting school, although after reading it several times, it did put some unsettling ideas in my son's head - obviously the opposite of my intent (what if the teacher doesnt like me? what if the other kids dont like me?). But the book and the pictures made him laugh, so despite the minor drawback, was a great buy overall!

I bought this for my pre-k kids about to move on to kindergarten and they love it! It has a funny, sweet way of expressing the anxieties of moving up in school then ends with reassurance and a laugh. Highly recommend!

If you love the pigeon - you know how awesome it is! and this books the same... If you dont know the pigeon.... You HAVE to get this book... both you and your kids will love it and these amazing books!

Great beginning of the year book for Kindergarten. My kiddo's will love it. I laughed out loud when reading it. I would totally recommend!
