The Only Woman in the Room: Knowledge and Inspiration from 20 Women Real Estate Investors

This book is a fantastic collection of short bios, stories, and advice from 20 women who have worked really hard, overcome many difficulties, and achieved great success in real estate investing. I'm a new-ish real estate investor and found the book to be incredibly inspiring! I've read dozens of books and listened to hundreds of hours of podcasts (including The Real Estate InvestHer podcast), and still found that this book made loads of unique contributions to my mindset and added to my practical knowledge about investing. The stories cover such a wide variety of aspects of real estate investing and come from women with such diverse backgrounds that any woman (or probably even man!) who picks it up is bound to find something they can relate to and garner inspiration from. On top of that, it's very clear that all of these amazing women have a big heart for helping other women succeed, and just getting tapped into that energy is so incredibly valuable. The book could have used some extra editing, but I'm willing to overlook that because of the amazing content :-) It was a quick read and I plan to re-visit it annually for continual inspiration! Thank you to all of the amazing ladies who contributed to this book!

Each chapter is based on a different woman REI. They share their story of where they came from, the challenges they faced, and how they were destined as a REI. I loved the variety avenues of REI. Each of the women had their own area of experience from flipping, to BRRR, syndication, adult family homes, self storage, multi family, construction, etc. I enjoyed this becuase it really opens your eyes to all of the opportunities that are available to us. I do believe most, if not all chapters, gave resources or talked upon books they read to help them achieve their success along the way. Nothing is going to be in depth so if you are expecting a step by step guide this is not that book. However, if you wanting to expand your base knowledge and connect with other women REIs I highly recommend you pick this up.

The women highlighted in this book have no qualms sharing their hard moments, their uncertainty, and their fear. What makes them amazing and inspirational are their achievements *despite* their set-backs. In terms of style, the stories are well-told and succinct. This is an excellent book for anyone in real estate, or who wants to get into real estate. Contractor, flipper, buy-and-hold investor - there's something for everyone! I think both men and women will enjoy it - and learn from it - but the stories resonated especially deeply with me as a woman. I've read a lot of real estate books, and this one feels different; there's an empathy that comes through on the page, a sensation of community, that I attribute to the female-focus. You won't regret this purchase.

This book provides many nuggets on how to start in different real estate niches, why real estate is such a good business/investment and ways to overcome obstacles. The stories are very interesting and engaging. I could not put the book away and will definitely re-listen again. This book gave me courage, if all the co-authors could build their empires facing such different obstacles I can do it too! There are no excuses to hold me back.

I can’t tell you how many real estate investing meet ups I’ve been to where I was the only woman there. I always felt like I was on the outside of the old boys club. These women are proof we can do it! More than just an inspirational book, lots of practical information and strategies to push your real estate investing business to the next level! They pull the curtain back on there early real estate investment experiences and talk about some of their hardships. They share lessons and give you guidance on how to continue moving forward on your own real estate journey. This is not “how to” but more like a “believe in yourself and you can” book on how to weather the storms of being the only female real estate investor you may know. You’re not alone in your struggles for financial independence and these women show you how they did it successfully.

Each women's story resounded with me and gave me the confidence that I also can do it. Even though each struggle and strategy was different they reached their goals/dreams by doing it their own way that fits their personality and lifestyle. At first I wasn't sure if this would be for me. Initial impression was it was just personal anecdotes of what motivated these women, and while I applaud them, it wasn't what I cared to read. I already have plenty of motivation but I am trying to learn about execution. However, as I kept going I got great ideas I had never considered that I can look into for myself. I gave it to my investing partner to read next and we are going to look these things up together!

This is by far one of the best books I have ever purchased and read. I will forever keep this book in my collection. The compilation of stories of all strong women, each with very compelling stories that can only educate, empower and inspire each woman reading this. Every woman should have this book and must read from cover to cover. Ashley Wilson’s compilation of all these strong and successful women is an excellent work. Thank you for making this inspiring book accessible to each one of us women.

What an amazing book. As a middle aged single mom, I was thrilled to read real life stories of women who "made it" against all odds. Coming from varied backgrounds, each womans story is a real life success story, showing that one doe not need to be born with a silver spoon, but that with grit, determination and bravery, great things can be accomplished. Well written and funny while packed with data, this book provides a trail map for others to follow.

Whether you are interested in real estate or not, this is a must-read for women of all ages! The personal stories compiled in this book are nothing short of amazing! They are eloquent, inspirational, and will motivate you to find your passion and go after it. There are also countless gems of data and information throughout the book - it is surely a wealth of knowledge that will benefit even the most experienced real estate investors. A smart and analytical look at real estate. Each contributor has something inspiring and unique to say. There's good advice packed in these short entries. Several times while reading this book I thought "That's a good point!" It's also an enjoyable read with witty and funny remarks. I knew I liked this book when I caught myself thinking I'd want to meet these contributors. It's a great book and a boost to your real estate strategy.

The Only Woman in the Room is a true inspiration about financial independence for woman. A career in Real Estate is very empowering, and super possible. The more I learn, it brings me hope to juggle work with little kids, a home, and many other obstacles I face that makes impossible for me to think of a career for myself. I highly recommend this book. Very easy to read, and very informative.

This is not just another inspirational book. Readers will benefit by receiving actual strategies others took and will be several steps ahead due to this! I absolutely love these women; their courage, their stories, their mentorship to help other women from start to finish gleaning so many takeaways to implement successful businesses. Knowing nothing about real estate, I was amazed at how relatable I found this book. I stumbled upon it in search of women-authored content; and as the diversity of the contributors impressed me, the variety of their experiences delighted me even more. I picked up this book to get the viewpoint from all these incredible women! Anyone of them could have given up along there journey. The struggles they went through in my opinion made them stronger as they pushed forward to success. No matter where you come from in life you can be successful if you have the drive and determination! Everyone should read this book!

The book is not bad by any means, although it could use some editing. I am a newer investor, but have listened to over 200 episodes of Bigger Pockets, and follow a few of them on social media, so I've heard parts of most of their stories and was pretty excited about the book. I'd say there's one story I really enjoyed and the of the charpters were just pretty meh, which was disappointing because of few of them has such great stories when they were on the podcast - none of it translated to the book. It's a very quick and easy read, but not a must-read by any means... I'm not sure I got anything from the book to be honest.

Not simply a motivational piece, this book is full of knowledge and “calls to action!” The stories are engaging, but this isn’t a one-and-done book. I'm not into real estate investing but found the stories each of the authors shared to be interesting and often inspirational. That most of the women started in a different career path before beginning the real estate careers; how and why they made the change; and the obstacles they overcame; was fascinating. It was an enjoyable read.

Over the past couple of years I’ve fantasized about what it would be like to buy an investment property and then I stumbled upon this book. Although it might be asking too much for their success to be that contagious, their passion for real estate investment certainly is.

This is an excellent read. It is very detail oriented and makes the daunting task of real estate investment seem doable. The tactics shared are practical and full of real life case studies. I would recommend this book to novices as well as experienced investors.

A great collection of shorts that document the successes that several women entrepreneurs had in different real-estate investing domains, and their amazing, individual journeys. Readable, informative and inspiring!

This book gave me a good overview on real estate investing plus some actionable tips and tricks to get started. The section on marketing ROI was especially interesting.

Amazing book !!!!! The knowledge that was received is priceless I want to thank these women for this great content.

I’m not impressed. It’s not what I expected and I’m only 2 chapters in and I do not have the desire to keep reading. More of an Inspiration you can do it kind of book.

This is a book filled with encouragement for all aspiring real estate investors especially women. Some of these women overcame homelessness, spousal abuse, and poverty, others are immigrants who didn't know anyone when they came to the U.S., and there are some who gave up successful corporate careers but all have managed to become successful real estate investors. Their stories of grit, determination, keeping a positive attitude, ignoring male chauvinism will motivate many women who have been afraid to take the leap into real estate investing. Whether they are wholesalers, flippers, landlords (landladies if you prefer), syndicators of apartment complexes/self storage facilities, their stories of how they did it and are still doing it provide a wealth of knowledge for real estate newbies. I think the subtitle of this book should be "Ladies, It Can Be Done and You Can Do It."

Having the thoughts and experiences from twenty amazing female investors all in one book creates a wonderful read. While you should definitely read the entire book, its structured in a way in which each chapter can stand on it's own so if you need some inspiration in a certain area, you can jump to that section and get your dose of motivation. This is a great book to read at any point in your career since each co-author brings their unique perspective and story . It was entertaining, educational, and most of all, made me feel like I'm not alone in my struggles. Would highly recommend!

Thank you Ashley and all the other authors for this great book. I really appreciated the real, tactical steps of how to become a RE investor or expand your current investment. I love how each chapter addresses a certain area and that you selected women from all walks of life, backgrounds, education and ages! This is a must read and for sure will be a go to Xmas gift for the women in my life this year!

Finally, women have a book that highlights the successes of women and encourages the future success of women (and men!) who read it!! I love that this book is a compilation of various viewpoints. Real estate has so many facets and can work in different ways for different people. I love that this book isn't a singular haughty person preaching everything you should know. Instead, it recognizes that there is knowledge everywhere. These stories are an inspiration and enlightening. I'm so glad to have read this book and will refer to it frequently.

I'm always on the search for the next good investment book. This one did not disappoint. I seriously could not put it down. Every story was different. The skills and goals were different as well. If you're wondering where to start, read through this entire book and it will give you an idea of what type of real estate investing most excites you. If you are already working in and on your business, this will give you inspiration to do more.

Maria gave me a good giggle! Loved her honesty about the not-so-flattering parts of motherhood. This insightful business book highlights examples of extraordinary woman taking control of their financial lives through real estate investing. Though the women in this book are largely in the real estate industry, a lot of the knowledge imparted, advice and insights will cut across many industries that are historically and even currently male dominated. As a someone very new to the idea of real estate investing, it was so helpful to read about the various paths and strategies that these women have used. It can be lonely and intimidating to consider entering this field as a woman, and I so appreciate hearing from each of these authors.

As a contractor in Seattle working with some of the contributors of this book I found it more informative and helpful to understand their side of the job which has lead to better communication and profits.
