The One Year Love Language Minute Devotional (One Year Signature Line)

I read the 5 Love Languages book written by Gary Chapman years ago. I just recently purchased another copy of that book because I lost my original. I'm re-reading the book while my husband is listening to the book on CD. I'm not sure what I expected when I ordered this devotional book, but it has certainly exceeded my expectations. The book itself is very nice. It has a leather look and feel. It doesn't look "girly" so it looks nice on your bedside table no matter if you are maleaving or female. Prior to receiving this we were reading a devotional every night before bed together. Even though the devotions were good, they rarely touched on marriage, relationships or anything like what we need right now. The devotions in this book are so good I have actually sat down and read some of them like a regular book. They truly hit home for both spouses and in my opinion help couples understand each other better. During a difficult time in our marriage we have found this book to be extremely helpful. The devotions are about a page long but not dull or boring reads. They are informative but not difficult to understand or comprehend. Even though we are reading/listening to the 5 Love Languages at the same time separately this seems to be the glue to bring all of that together. Reading this at night before we go to bed seems to be particularly nice. It's the end of the day, work is over, chores are finished, kids are in bed & after being in a marriage/relationship for many years it's a much needed time of sharing and quiet yet thoughtful moment together. I would recommend this devotional to anyone in a marriage, long term committed relationship or even for newlyweds just starting out. This would make a great gift to a newly married couple. I have nothing negative to say about this devotional at all. I think I enjoy this more than the book to be honest. My husband seems to enjoy it as well which is really saying something because he's not a "reader" or lover of books in general. I DID NOT receive this book at a discount, for free or as a part of any program. I purchased it by choice with my own money. My reviews are my own honest opinions and thoughts.

My husband and I are empty-nesters, missionaries. We have been using this in the mornings together after personal devotions. Let me say, this book gets right down to the issues! It really addresses the things we are still working through after nearly 30 years of marriage. It has provoked good conversations that help us to be more honest with each other-- something we both need badly. Not every single day is as powerful as the others, but so far this really gets to the heart of the marriage relationship. It's not easy to find something that will address the needs of older couples-- this does; but I am sure it will fit in well for younger marrieds and those who still have kids at home.

I was looking for a secular book of daily meditations for couples, and the description for this book never mentions religion or Christianity. However, every page starts with a reading from the Christian Bible and ends with a prayer to "Lord" or "Jesus". They should definitely mention Christianity in the description! Perhaps that's implicit with the word "devotional" but it should be explicit. Do no other religions use the term? Couldn't it be devotion to one's spouse? Regardless of one's religion or lack thereof, there is a lot of wisdom in the Bible, and a lot to be said for prayers even if they're directed to a deity one doesn't believe in. But if only a secular book will do for you, keep looking. The pages cover a wide variety of subjects and are great reflections. They don't dwell on the 5 love languages either: this is not a big ad for the author's main book. The imitation leather version feels nice in my hands, and it has a ribbon to save the page.

A must read study guide for all marriage ages. A plan of attack against Satan. Helps to strengthen or fix the marriage. This book is very thought provoking it covers most maritial issues and how to bandle thrm.. We pray first them read the book Even when your mad put that aside and pray and read. Our country's needs strong commited marriages.

My hubby and I read this each morning! It is really quick to read, one page per day, but the content is great! We talk about what we read for a few minutes and then talk about it again in the evening!! Love Gary Chapman's books!!

It is so helpful because the situations that are talked about throughout the book are ones that all couples can relate too. I think that this is a good book for couples to purchase even before they are married.

I was a bit concerned that this may end up being more elementary than what my boyfriend and I were looking for, but I was wrong. Even with the topics we don't have any issues with, it opened up many conversations that have been so healthy for us. We are a long distance couple for now and we read it on the phone together every night and then discuss. It's strengthened our relationship with God as a couple and with each other. I definitely recommend it.

This is a great devotional. I have an older version that my spouse and I have been using for years. I order this now to give for wedding presents. Even after years of marriage it is still good to go back and read. it is like having a live-in marriage counselor that keeps you living with Gods word and keeping a your faith to God and your Spouse strong.

If you're already deep into relationship dynamics and study, this is a little light. If, however, you're a normal American couple, you need this. Keeps you from being "That guy!" and really helps both of you see how and why he/she does "that. " Great for couples who really want to please each other on our deepest levels. I'd go so far as to recommend Chapman's "5Love Languages" too, so you can understand where he comes from. They will help - a lot. (Not an advertisement. Don't have anything to gain by you buying these books; you do.)

Almost 20 years happily married but keeping it fresh by using a devotional like this, we think, is a good idea. We highly recommend this book for the great discussions they have led to, which happens sometimes when we are driving and other times when we are more relaxed at home or camping, just depends how pressed for time we are. Point is that they are a quick read and lead to some very good things to talk about together, even after 20 years. We would even recommend this book as a great wedding or anniversary gift; what better investment can you make in another couple's marriage than to see it strengthened by using these discussions.

This is a nice devotional to go through daily with your spouse or significant other, especially if you're working on better communication. Didn't get 5 stars because it's missing a devotion for February 29 and a few (very few) of the devotionals seemed random or repetitive, and the scripture reference doesn't note the Bible translation it comes from. Overall, this is a great buy I don't regret!

Just got it and catching up on a few missed days. Wow. Such words of encouragement specially when me and my BF are growing together as one with different love languages and with God.

I bought this as a gift for my mother in law. She reads many spiritual books and owns a variety of devotions. She cannot stop raving about this book. In fact, she's made this her go to anniversary present for friends and family. She loves it and loves the reminders of the love languages within the book. She is a true believer.

Easy to read common sense book which encourages us to Build a Better relationship each day and gives us the tools to do so. This book touches on almost any topic that could come up in a marriage. Much of the information would be helpful in all our relationships. I would recommend this book to anyone contemplating marriage, just married or married over 50 years like I am. Whether you read the book together or each read the daily message separately, it changes the way we do marriage. This book would make a wonderful gift that would always keep on giving.

Strongly recommend this book for couples. Wish I would have read it 30 years ago. Some of Chapman's advice is over simplistic and it all has a religious base. But for Christian couples this book can't be beat.

Great for married or unmarried couples

This book is fantastic. I've only read half of the book. Life got busy. But it's a really good reminder to love your spouse everyday. :)

I choose this because my wife bought us a hard copy. Since I had purchased the 5 Love languages for her about 7 years ago. This devotional keeps you in practice daily with the principles learned in the 5 Love Languages book. Every lesson and devotion has a scriptural reference, so the author is not just blowing smoke.

I have only read a few pages of this book but am enjoying it so far!

My coworker had this book. She and her husband read their daily devotional. I read a couple of devotionals and believed that my nephew and sister would benefit from this book. So yes, I would recommend this book.

The picture shown is for a lavender colored leather bound edition, but what you actually get is the paper back version. It is specified in the details about the book that it is paper back, so it's my fault for not reading the description completely but I was still disappointed that I did not receive what was pictured. For that reason only I rated it 4 out of 5, but the contents are great and of course it's the same in both paper back and leather bound. My husband and I take turns reading the days passage and even though we are both satisfied with our relationship it's refreshing to come across areas that may need a little improvement. It's like taking a daily vitamin: You can take it even when you're in good health and it helps you remain in good health.

This devotional is exactly what I was looking for- a devotional that my husband and I could do every night together. It is simple yet more than surface level, about our marriage but also about our Lord, and it doesn't take long to do when we are both tired but wanting to end the day with something specifically spiritual. Easy to use to grow habits of taking time to spend with the Lord together!

While this book is great for married couples, it only barely touches on couples, unmarried. I'm keeping it because marriage is right down the road for me so I imagine it will come in handy sooner or later.

My significant other and I are considering marriage and our counselor suggested this book to us as a "tool" to use to help us improve our communication and discuss some of the "tough" topics. Great quick devotional

These daily devotions help keep my wife and I close and intimate. A little quiet time together everyday really keeps things fresh! The devotionals in this book spur great conversations about concepts that my wife and I would not have discussed otherwise. I enjoyed every day through the entire book and wish it hadn't ended. One minute each day is a little bit of a stretch, especially if you talk about what was in the lesson, which you should! My wife and I don't have kids yet, so a large portion (maybe 1/3 or so) of the book wasn't really applicable yet. But we talk about kids often and are always learning whatever we can for the future.

This is the perfect book for a marriage that wants to have the perfect relationship whether reading together or alone. Very easy to read & only takes a minute a day for each reading so no excuses that there isn't time.
