Must Read for Hitters
Can't say enough about this author or this book. We bought everyone on our 14u travel team a copy, assigned them three chapters a week, and after the first week most of the boys were already reading ahead and talking about it among themselves. The author keeps his lessons simple and direct and backs them up with examples from the major leaguers he's worked with. We strive to make our players as independent as possible at this age, and this is a great way for them to develop a consistent mental approach to their at-bats and to understand how to set goals, self-coach, and manage expectations. Every serious baseball player from 12 on up should read this book.
Track It and Whack It!
The first chapter, about seeing the ball, makes this book worthwhile for anybody. The author makes a good point about hitters worrying too much over minor mechanical details when tracking the ball is so important. Having said that, this book is about the mental aspects of hitting and assumes that you already have decent mechanics. If you are a high school level player or beyond, there will be useful information here. If you're a coach of youth teams, reading this book will help you better coach your hitters. There arent many specific swing techniques, but the book is full of advice from the mental aspect of the game. Similarly, there arent many detailed practice plans, but rather a good discussion of attitudes and how to approach practice time. You, as the youth coach, should be using these mental techniques to help your young hitters cope and adjust. Hitting a baseball is one of the most difficult things to do in sports. That requires both physical and mental skills to perform at peak capacity.
a MUST have for any baseball player
Every Ball player must have a copy of this book. Read it, read it again, and again. I decided to play hardball after a 13 year layoff and now I am 46. Last year I batted .216. Picked up the book and halfway through the season I am at .438. passed the total amount of hits, walks, and only have a few strikeouts. I have changed nothing mechanically but everything mentally. HUGE difference!!! Not only is this book the greatest guide to hitting, it also doubles as a great guideline to life as well...,.
Dorfman speaks the truth
Excellent book on the mental side of hitting. I have worked with coaches that have insisted on hammering mechanics, completely ignoring the commonly held belief that hitting is 90% mental. The mental side of hitting shifts focus from the result (I.e. getting a base hit) to being confident and maintaining control of the entire at bat.
Dealing with Stress Points
I was curious and did find it not great but interesting - applicable to all sports
Excellent Youth Coach's Hitting Manual. SEE THE BALL.
The Mental Keys to Hitting is the Greatest most user friendly baseball coach's book ever. I thought the mental aspects of Seeing the ball were extremely effective. Most readers reading this review might think that every player is seeing the ball properly. Players do not see the ball as well as they should because they have never been taught the proper mind set of seeing the ball.Coaching hitters to see the ball is one of the most important things a coach can teach his players. This is absolutely not coached at any level of youth baseball. Mr. Dorfman does an excellent job of explaning this simple but often overlooked method of batting. I have bought The Mental Game of Baseball, The Mental Game of Pitching, and The Mental Keys to hitting. These three books are the TOP Three baseball coaching books ever written. I highly recommend this book and the other two books by Mr. Dorfman. This book will teach you the coach how to apply these mental princples to help you to effectively coach your youth league baseball team.

Great book
My son and I read this book together, since he is only 12 years old. He found it very helpful and has already put some strategies to work.
Good Information
Coaching 8 and 9 year old boys travel ball. Looking for insight to communicate to the boys on the mental part of the game. Good information. Concepts are good and well thought. I would have enjoyed some more in depth applications of the points being made. The concepts can be applied in life as well.

Best book on hitting. Mandatory read for batter. Only problem is Dad's will read it, but try to get the kid to read it.

Must Read for Any Hitter
Great book for any hitter or athlete.
See the ball
Know a hitter who has great mechanics? Does well in practice, but seems to struggle during the games? Then this might be the book you need. Perhaps the best book on the subject. It can certainly help a player develop an approach to hitting that is likely missing--or at least improve one. Similar concepts can be found in "The Mental Game of Baseball" but it is worth reading both. This book just focuses and expands on the hitting area.

I have read thru 2x and will continue to review. Very good and simple ideas. I started using this info this season for my 14u boys and about mid-season it caight on and our hitting improved dramatically without changing any mechanics.

Simply Brilliant
This book has been recommended by my son baseball head coach. I've never been so excited to explore and link the mental and physical strength of baseball game. This is a great book, which after reading we've been using it as a guidance and manual to our practice sessions. I really recommend this book and is worth the time and effort spend by reading it. Price is the last thing that you should be worried or consider.
Read it
Great read has helped alot with my mental approach to hitting.

I was very happy.
All coaches and players need this book.
My overall thought of this book is that it has really a lot of detail and different subjects that you would never think of in an at-bat. For instance, in the book, Dorfman says that if hitters aren’t doing good at the plate, they seem to over complicate things and just try to believe that something has to be wrong with mechanics when in reality you’re probably doing everything right, just not finding the right hole. Coming from a kid that's had a lot of experience in playing baseball, that is true, whenever you’re not getting on the base you try to change something up in your swing when nothing needs to change, but you tell yourself you have to change this or have to change that and then in the at-bat that is what you’re focusing on in the batter's box and then you get out again because your mind is all messed up. Another thing he focuses on in the third chapter is to set your goals and to not try and live up to others expectations and what others believe they can do. He says that it is very important to have goals because that is what you can base progress off and try to achieve something particular rather than just going through the motions. Chapter 11, my favorite chapter focuses on the approach and results at the plate. I like this chapter because every time someone goes up to the plate you're always thinking about trying to overachieve and get a double or more every time, when in reality that's not going to happen. When what you should actually do is try to go off where runners are and how many outs there are and other things that will help you visualize what you should try to get in that at-bat that is achievable… Singles most at-bats don't hurt. This book is definitely a must for baseball players and coaches too, not just the player can learn what he has to do, but also the coach can learn to know what to focus on and help their players out and let them know that it is okay to not always get a hit, because not even the people that get played to play baseball can get a hit 1 out of 3 times.

Excellent book-- Makes one think and concentrate more
Getting the message across
For some hitters the battle against the pitcher and the defense is lost well before the ball is pitched. As a former head coach and now a hitting instructor at the semi-pro level, I have always been on the lookout for keys and prompts to give to my hitters to clear their mind of everything but a concentration on the ball and solid contact. This book gives me those cues in a simple to understand, and more importantly, a simple way of presenting those mental reminders. I particularly like the three simple questions to ask the hitter after every at bat. "What were you trying to do?", "What went wrong?" ,"What will you do next time?". The techniques suggested to get across to players the oft-repeated theme of this book - "see the ball and be easy!" are easy to understand and implement. I have been much more confident in my ability to get that message into my players heads after reading this book.
Great finish for a trio of books including Mental ABC's ...
If you're looking for a mental edge when you step up to the plate, get this book and TAKE IT SERIOUSLY... This book has all you need on the mental aspects of hitting.... Great finish for a trio of books including Mental ABC's of Pitching and the Mental Game of Baseball... All three considered a must read for coaches and players alike
Baseball gold
This book is true gold for any ballplayer looking to improve his game. The book goes beyond the physical to focus on the many mental issues a player can use to improve on and off the field.
Incredible Hitting Guide
I take this book with me in my baseball bag when we go on road trips for consultation after a poor at bat. It is by far the best hitting instructor I have ever had.
Great Book
Best book on the subject I have ever read - very usable.
This Book Turned My Game Around
Until I read this book I was throwing helmets, tossing bats, and swearing after every at-bat. The Mental Keys to Hitting gave me confidence to go to the batter's box with a plan and execute to the best of my ability. A must-read for any player.
