THE ONLY THING THAT HELPED MY DAUGHTER WITH THE KINDERGARTEN BLUES

Oh how I love love LOVE this book. Like so many little ones, my daughter was having a really hard time adjusting to kindergarten. She would cry every day before she got on the bus. She would tell me constantly how much she missed being home. She seemed so sad and lost. I reached out to a friend whose daughter had gone though something similar a few years ago. She recommend this book. This book, above anything else we tried, helped my daughter adjust to going to school. The book itself is so well written. It's full of kindness, empathy, compassion and understanding. Young Chester Raccoon is scared of going to school and doesn't want to go. His mother, who is full of wisdom, finds a way to let him know that she's always with him...even when they're apart. Get ready for the tugging of the heartstrings! The first time my husband read this to our daughter, he came out of her room a little teary-eyed. He gave me the "why didn't you warn me??!" We've read this book sooo many times. Any time my daughter is upset about anything (doesn't even have to be school related anymore) she wants to read this and snuggle. This helped so so so much. If I could hug the author I would. We had sad mornings every day for the first several weeks of school. After reading this there was an immediate change. Thank you thank you Audrey Penn!!

Recommending this book to all Moms and Dads-

This book is the sweetest read. Ever. I read a ridiculous amount of books to my little one. This one I will remember forever. I was looking for something to read to her before she started school. It would be her first time apart from me. This book speaks to the separation between a mother raccoon and her baby as he is about to leave her for the first time to go to school. She comes up with a way for him to feel her love when he’s missing her, by pressing his paw to his cheek... after she “kisses “ his hand. I must confess, my voice shakes every. Single. Time. I read the last couple lines of this book. You must buy it to see why. Bonus/ check out Pinterest for the cutest ideas to do with your little one that they will love to go with this book. I made missing hand cookies that were waiting at home when I picked my daughter up from her first day and we did several crafts that tied in beautifully with the story. A beautiful book, one to save and pass on to the next generation !

Great for older preschoolers

We got this for our 2 year old who recently started early preschool who was having a rough time. We also got llama llama misses mama, and Oh my baby little one. We read them Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. On Monday morning we had no hysterics. He seemed to enjoy oh my baby little one and llama llama slightly more than the kissing hand, the words are more rhythmic which he enjoys. However I think for 3-5 year olds this one would be better. We will enjoy the story regardless for years to come.

When the pages get wrinkled this much - you KNOW it's a good book!!!

We have loved gathering books for our home reading collection shelves and have spent much time in the local library to find things to "try this one at home first". Then, if a book starts to fall into "let's keep it out again Mama!" we'll check to see if it should become part of our home library. The Kissing Hand is a great one of these sorts of books at our house now. And, the "wrinkled pages" note above means (in this particular case) that a book has caught the imagination of our 3-year old and has become one of his own reading it again and again books. Reading it to his collection of stuffed animal friends, his 6-year old brother, even to Mama and Papa at different times of day. (Except at bedtime when Mama or Papa is the MUST BE THE READER.) And, curled up fingers uncurling to check to see that kissed central part of a palm - is the proof in this batch of pudding. Wonderful story!!

A definite new tradition for the first day of a new school year!

Very nice and was loved by ALL!

Sweet book perfect for a little one who is nervous about being away from their parent

Super cute little book. We used this to help my son transition into a new daycare/preschool. The book talks about Chester the Racoon and being nervous to be apart for his mom. The mommy racoon starts a tradition of kissing the inside of his paw and tells Chester when they are apart to place his paw against his face and it will remind him of his mom and all the love she has for him. The book is easy for a toddler to understand and has a sweet message. For the first few weeks of school every morning in the car I would kiss my sons hand and he would do the same to mine. Id tell him if he was ever missing mommy too much to put his hand to his face and he would think about how much I loved him and how I cant wait to give him a kiss after school. He liked the raccoon in the book so much I bought him a Chester The Racoon stuffed animal that is now a favorite of his.

Cute Book

I bought this book based on a recommendation. It is so cute. I highly recommend it. I read it to my 2 year old and he kept kissing the palm of his hand after I read it to him. It is written to help kids get prepared to go to school for the first time, but it would be a great book for any kid who is going through any transition.

Not a bad book

The Kissing Hand has a nice premise- bringing a caring person inside you when you’re apart & have to do difficult things -I also liked the idea that it’s hard for parents too when our little ones go out into the world without us. The pictures are lovely. What I didn’t like was the presumptions such as, ...” you’ll love school once you start...” -where does that leave a child who doesn’t like school or has difficulty making friends? I also think this book is a little too cloying for me- but that’s personal preference and obviously a lot of people like that sort of thing ( I dislike the I love you forever book).

One of my absolute favorite books. My son who is four has been asking me to read it every night since he was about two. We love Chester! The stickers are a good idea too. We put one on at the beginning of the preschool and school year and whenever we are having a hard time separating for the day. Cute reminder that the love is still there!

Must-have!

I love this book so much!!! I read it in a Barnes and Noble when I was looking for a gift for my best friend's baby shower. I cried in the store when I read it and left with two copies. (I didn't have any children, nor was I pregnant, or even thinking about becoming pregnant at the time. I just knew I needed to have it!) Now, two years later, I am in my third trimester of my own pregnancy and am so happy to have this book to read to my little girl someday. So sweet!

Perfect for calming first day jitters.

I bought this book to read to my daughter as she was struggling with going to preschool. She was fine once she got in the building but had a terrible time getting her out of the car to go in. This book is so sweet and has been a favorite since we read it the first time. The kissing hand has now become a tradition with my youngest daughter and I, she is now able to read it to me (she's in 2nd grade now). I highly recommend this book to calm the first day jitters. ❤️❤️

I purchased this book for my newborn granddaughter. I used to read this book to my daughter, her mother, when she was a child. It is a wonderful story about a mother's love for her child when the child is afraid to begin a new chapter of his or her life without a parent being with them all the time. When the baby raccoon is afraid to start school, the mother raccoon tells him a story about how much she loves him and will always be with him. When he becomes afraid, all he has to do is open his hand and his mother's kiss will be in his palm. An easy and heartwarming story.

Classic book, great for Separation Anxiety

This is such a wonderful story for children dealing with separation anxiety, or even just a nice message to help children feel secure when going to school for the first time, or even daycare. This even has the stickers in it as well which is a cute touch. My son really enjoyed this book and its a classic that I will read to my younger children as well. Don't think they will understand it at 2 years old.. but I def think at 3 they will.

Perfect gift

Love it

Sweet mother/child story

Have read this book approximately 9,421 times in the past 2 months and while I don’t actually need to look at the pages any more and am getting quite bored with the story myself, my 5yo still requests the story nightly. Sweet book for any child nervous about a coming change/time away from mom. Allows creation of a special connection between mom/child with the dispensing of a kissing hand which will be requested on an hourly basis.

Sweet book

This book is such a sweet book to read to a child if they are afraid of going to school, don't like school, or have attachment issues. Short and sweet. Great story, great idea, and great illustration.

Perfect book for my daughter who is getting deployed!!

I ordered this to give to my daughter who is getting deployed later this month. She cried when I gave it to her because when my kids were young I used to kiss the palms of their hands and closed it in a fist.. they ran to the schoolbus that way. It was meant to be used in school for if they were sad or missed home. My daughter told me not too long ago, that she did just that!! she actually put her open hand on her cheek if she was sad or missed me. So I was so happy to find this book which I didn’t even know it existed.

Perfect condition! So happy

Perfect in every way

Thank you. Perfect in every way. Exactly what we wanted!

Thank you ❤️

I purchased this book for my friend to have a fresh new copy after she had a house fire, where her 9 year old son passed away. This book was given to him and his twin brother by a dear friend who happens to be buried next to her son. We were able to find the burnt copy of the original book but we framed the newer one with a copy of the inscription from her dear friend. ❤️

Cute Story!

My 3 year old was so nervous about going to preschool. She spent all of her time with grandma and myself so this would be her first time away from home. I bought this book based on the great reviews and read it to her every other day the few weeks before preschool began. I like this version much more than the abridged board book version. The story is very cute - I don't want to "ruin" it in my review so I won't go in to detail. However, it has a happy, reassuring ending and I think this book provides a positive message for those children who are anxious about their first day. As a bonus, the book included little heart stickers in the back.

Perfect for processing away time from parents

Absolutely LOVE this book! Perfect for any time you have to spend away from your child. My daughter started kindergarten and this was very helpful. Now, me and my husband are separating and I know I will reference this book as we work through it with her. Highly recommend

Highly recommend this book, sweet message!

This was a childhood favorite of mine. My mom used to read it every year before school, and we still do the kissing hand every once in a while. When I found out one of my high school friends was having a baby this book immediately came to mind. I ordered it right away and wrote a little note for him. This is such a special and comforting book I highly recommend it!

Family

I read the kissing hand to my daughter almost every night when she was little until she started teaching it to me. She's now 18 and has her first semester of college completed. I'm purchasing this for my niece. I can't wait to read it to her. 🥰

Great for Preschoolers

My son recently began Pre-K 3 and this was one of the books for the week. For reinforcement, I purchased a copy on my Kindle. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and so did my son. It is the tale of Chester the raccoon that has to go to school, but he does not want to; he would much prefer staying at home with mom, playing with his own toys, and friends that he has known for a very long time. As a result, his mother teaches him the secret of the "kissing hand." This is a story about separating and doing things that we may not want to do but have to do. Furthermore, it is about the bond of love that always surrounds a person, even when his/her loved ones are not near.

10 stars!!

This book has been great for my preschooler that doesn't like school. I gave it to him as a Valentine's present with a special message written inside. He is very shy and the school environment has been overwhelming. He had so much joy and magic in his eyes when I read this book to him for the first time and acted out his own kissing hand and seemed content with going to school (we are halfway thru the school year and he has dreaded every day). I asked how his day was at school and he said he told his friends about his kissing hand in excitement. We read it again tonight and he was just as overjoyed letting his kissing hand reassure him that everything is ok. Love this wonderful book!

Helpful for separation anxiety

This book is helping with my 4 year old's separation anxiety at school drop off. We kiss each other's hands and it seems to give him the extra courage needed to let me leave school. We have this book and the Invisible String - both have been helpful.

Best book ever!

My daughter had a hard time starting pre-k this year. Because of this book, she has stopped crying. She loves school, so every morning we kiss hands like the book to make her experience better. Thanks so much! This momma is so happy and proud of her little girl.

A classic and good read for a child with separation anxiety.

A classic! My daughter, now in grad school, used to love this story. I'd read it to her on Sunday nights before she had to go to pre-school in the morning because she had sone separation anxiety. So, I bought it for a friend about to have her first child.

Sweet!

This book is helping my grandson transition to Kindergarten with fewer tears. We’re here for a short visit and I put a Grammy kiss in his hand this morning before he left for school so now he has two kisses in his kissing hand!

Good for preschool first timers

If you have a child that is having a hard time adjusting to pre-school this is a great book. Especially for little mommas boys. My 4 year old cried everytime I dropped him off at pre- school. And he cried at nap time for me as well. He missed me so badly. I'm a stay at home mom so we have a tight bond. This book finally helped him.

It arrived on time. It is as described.

My 5.5 year old was really struggling with separation anxiety at Preschool. This book was such an incredibly gentle and powerful way of supporting him. After I read it the first time he said, "Momma, this is just like me!" I believe it was a very helpful tool in getting him to realize he is never alone and I will always be there for him. Highly recommend it!

I love this book

I love this book! My 22 month old started 2 year old preschool and it started off bad. After doing a lot of research on books to buy that might help her, I came across the kissing hand. We got it on a Saturday and read it multiple times a day until school started again on Tuesday. As I left her she held her hand to her face and only cried for a minute! Huge success!! I recommend this book to anyone who's child is having new school separation issues.

Very Cute; Will Help With Separation Anxiety

This book is so adorable. We plan to use it when our daughter spends the night with grandparents or away from us, but we regularly read it to her now at bedtime (she's about a year old). This book will help ease separation anxiety. My wife used to work in daycare, and they read the book there to help out new kids when they were starting their daycare journey. The illustrations are beautiful and the writing is superb. Great children's book!

Illustrations were better than the story. Child loses interest less than halfway into the book.

The storyline was just OK. A raccoon going to school and how to ease separation anxiety between child/mom. Illustrations were great, but I cannot see myself reading this book multiple times to my child. My soon-to-be six year old was not interested and the feelings were mutual.

Great Book

I love this story!! A great book for the beginning of school. The story is about a raccoon who has to go to night school and doesn’t want to leaves his mom she kisses his hand and he has a kiss whenever he feels lonely. Comes with heart stickers

Son loves it

👍

Good book to try before kindergarten

Bought for kindergartner, kind of an odd book. Didn’t feel like it made a difference in her being sad about leaving home. But it’s cute. Worth a try.

Perfect for Preschoolers

This is such a beautiful story that is perfect for small children about to enter preschool/school or daycare for the first time. It is so comforting, I am certain it can help your little one prepare for the separation. This book was on my daughter's Kindergarten reading list and we loved it (even though she has been going to preschool since the age of 3). It is a great story regardless.

Nice story for kids starting school or who do not like to separate from their parents.

My son started pre-school this fall and we read the book a couple of times before he started. He did not stay interested till the end but he got the main idea of the story. Maybe it is better if kids 3+. He is only 2 and he is very bright and loves books but I think this book has a little more writing then the average 2 year has patience for. Otherwise a very nice story and he loves the stickers that we put in his palm for the kiss!!!

Tear jerker!

I'm not usually a person that cries, but I read this the night before my children started a new daycare and I almost couldn't finish reading it. This book was so sweet. It was exactly what my children and I needed.

Reminder of parents' love

My granddaughter was going back to daycare after many months of quarantine. She was anxious and apprehensive and this book helped her know her mom and dad were nearby.

Useful

We use this reference at every drop off!

WOW!!! AMAZING book. My daughter after going to Pre-K for about a month was still crying EVERYDAY when we would drop her off. Just after the first day I read her the book and then listened to the Audio CD she DIDN'T CRY!!!! Even her teacher called us at home and told us "What did you guys do she hasn't cried" This is a must have for anyone going through separation anxiety when starting school. I just hope I would have found this book earlier. All daycares, Schools should have this book on the shelf for families having troubles with separation.

One of My Favorite Books ❤️

I purchased this book for my good friend who will soon be a new mother. It is a wonderful book with such a loving message!

Must Read!

This is my go-to book for the first-day-of-Pre-K story time. It's such a sweet and tender story of a small raccoon separating from his mother for the first time. (It also provides an opportunity to talk about nocturnal animals. Might as well pack in the learning on the very first day of school.) I don't repeat many lessons from year to year, but this is one I never miss. I usually have a related activity that the children do with their parents on meet-the-teacher night, and this immediately draws the parents into their children's first year of formal schooling.

Great Book

Read this to some 1st graders. Beautifully illustrated. Kids enjoyed the story. Not too long and held their interest.

Great book for kids in transition at school

I read this book often to my 2 and a half year old son who was in a transition program in school. The goal was for him to stay at school from 9-12 each day without having a parent around. Each day the moms were asked to leave for longer and longer periods of time. Some of the other kids had a tough time with this. Lot of tears were shed. However, my son seemed fine and I think I can thank this book as well as "Owl Babies" for making the transition easy on him. Even now that he is fully transitioned, each day when I drop him off he gives me a kiss on my hand and I do the same for him.

Love this book!

I love this book! I used to read it to my kindergartners on the first day of school and now I'm recommending to parent's who have little ones that are nervous to go to school the first time. Very helpful!

Feelings are important.

It is a touching story to read to a child. It can even relate to an adult. I LOVED reading it.I heard about it from a friend who read it to her child and the story she told me about his first time leaving home and his Mom to go to school.

Love this book!

I ordered this for my little great nieces. I love it; they love it. Wonderful addition to their home libraries.

The Kissing Hand, Couldn't love it more

I got this book for my nephew "to give" to my sister for her first Mother's Day. He is still way too young to be going to school yet, but he does go to daycare. It is definitely more of a gift for her now. Something that she'll be able to read to him and think of while she is at work. She and her husband are taking a trip for a friend's wedding in the fall and she has already talked about how hard it will be to be away, but I think she'll think of him and this book and it will bring a smile to her face. It's a book that will grow with them for when he starts school. Can't wait to give it to her. I think she will love it as much as I do.

We love it.

We love it. My wife read this to both of our adult children when they moved away from home. Even my muscle head son cried when his mother read it to him as he left for college. This book is now a family tradition and my wife has recorded dates and notes in the front cover.

LOVELY STORY!!!!!

LOVE this book!!!!! I read it to my children when they were little and now to my grandchildren ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤

Cute story

I purchase this book for my daughter, she loved it. I purchase it as a baby gift for her daughter.

I received the book when my daughters were little and I fell in love with the illustrations

This is the sweetest book that I purchased for a new mother. I received the book when my daughters were little and I fell in love with the illustrations, story and gentle sweetness of the message. The book arrived extremely quick and was packaged with another book that I had also ordered and both arrived in perfect condition!

Lovely! Vivid and cute

Heartwarming and perfect for those first day jitters! I would definitely recommend this book! Looking forward to reading it to my son!

Lovely and heartfelt, great for easy anxiety about school

We bought this to soothe some tiny anxieties that our girl had about starting school. To say she loved this book would be an understatement. Even though school is well in session and she is happy there she still requests this book at least once a week for story time. The little stickers that come with the book are cute and she did place one on her hand as she went off to school. The illustrations are wonderful and the story is so touching. Moms and Dads might want to have a tissue up their sleeve just in case.

Such a sweet book!

Helped with my daughter’s separation anxiety after starting kindergarten. She would cry, scream and cling to me every morning when I took her to school. Granted, this book didn’t magically fix it - but it’s definitely made it so much easier for her.

Teaching moment!

Super book for letting a little one know they are loved as they leave to go to daycare or school!

Love this book

My 4 years old has separation anxiety. I read him this book and I don't expect it to magically make his anxiety go away but I will try what the book says. No matter the outcome we both really enjoyed the book although I was puzzled on why school was at night rather than day :)

Helped my toddler with drop off

Bought this for my 3.5 year old after he was having such a hard time at school drop off. He now loves this book!

My girls and i love this story

My girls and i love this story! My daughter started preschool this year and every day when I drop her off I give her a kissing hand and she gives me one. What a great story and I love the special tradition it's given us!!

Great story my kids have connected with

This is a really cute story and I can tell my kids have connected with it because when they’re feeling anxious or nervous or going to bed they’ll kiss my hand and ask for a kissing hand in return. Super cute.

Personal purchase.

Purchased this book for my granddaughter. She had some anxiety starting Kindergarten, I thought this book would ease her uncertainty, it worked like a charm. For the first few weeks of school she and my daughter kissed each other's hand to keep them in each other's thoughts. I highly recommend this book. It is a sweet story.

Memories

I read this with my kids & I can’t wait for my kids to read it to their kids.

Book is kind of dumb

Book is kind of dumb. Pictures are pretty and it is well made. Didn’t live up to the hype.

So sweet. It's a classic!

My 3 year old and I do this together now:) It's very sweet. He spends some time with his dad and that is why I got this book, but was pleasantly surprised that it helps with him starting pre-school too!

A classic addition to baby's library.

We have read this many times over the years. It is very sweet, and not a scary, symbolic downer like the Velveteen Rabbit.

Stickers

Ordered two books from the seller with the same rating of used book. One was just as described, the other was covered in stickers.

Read Many Times at My House and Makes a Nice Gift

I read this book to my children a lot as they were starting to head off to a preschool routine, and they make a perfect gift for friends now that they are having children; they still remember it now that they are in high school. If you’re looking for a book to read with your younger kids, or as a gift for someone with a small child, my family and I would certainly recommend this one.

Wonderful book

This has been a huge help for our family. We’ve had to deal with long times away (<2 months) and it helped ease the pain

Great book and everything else

The book arrived in great condition, very quickly. Plus I love reading this story to my boys. The Kissing Hand is such an encouraging story during this particular time in our lives as my boys now live in two homes since their father and I divorced. They know that my love is always with them and they have their kissing hand to hold onto. <3

Nice story

Excellent story for children who struggle with leaving their attachment figure.

One of my favorite all-time books!

Great book for little ones' first experience at school or daycare.

Sweet book

Wha a lovely children's book with a wonderful message!! My kids love it!

New tradition

Cutest book! Cannot wait to read to my new baby grand daughter!

More Care When Shipped Please...

Love this book. Bought as a Christmas present for my mother who used to read to me prior to going to kindergarten. Care wasn't taken during shipping though, and the book was bent in the middle. Its the thought that counts I guess.

Perfectly written

Through two kids this has been the best to help ease the separation anxiety. First is now 17 and remembers this story fondly. Helped again with the 2nd for preschool last year.

Very cute book. Great for preschooler heading off to school!

I got this book to read to my daughter before her first day of school. This is a great book to read to your preschooler prior to the start of their first day of school. It's a very cute story and helps with separation anxiety trouble. I love it and am happy to add it to our home library!

Very touching story

Wow! A very beautiful story about mother and child. I wish beautiful things like this were everywhere in human life. Thank you.

beautiful!

This book is a must buy for any child that is going to school for this first time, and having separation anxiety. I will keep this book forever, beautiful!

absolutely touching and relatable.

My son started kindergarten on Monday and as my husband and I suspected, he would have some time to adjust. He gives a puppy dog face and a little tear when we drop him off. He states he wants to go home to be with us. We read this book just now and he said Chester is just like him. He also said that his fourth and fifth day of school will be "amazingly assume" and he will be smiling all day! Purchasing this book on my kindle is priceless!!! Thanks. Evelyn W., mom of Aiden

Highly recommended

Love this book helped my daughter with her separation anxiety

A personal favorite!

Bought this for a shower gift. Mother to be loved it! It was one of our favorites for our kids. Sweet sentiment.

Great for toddler starting preschool/daycare

My 2 1/2 year old started attending daycare about a month ago, and our goodbye in the morning was so very unpleasant. I bought this book to help her adjust and accept the idea that I still love her even when we are apart, and after just one week, I can already see the difference. We had three great mornings in a row! This book is incredibly sweet, and definitely conveys the young raccoon's trepidation about doing something new and scary. Momma Raccoon is very reassuring with her lesson about the Kissing Hand, and I would recommend this book for anybody who has a young child that is unsure about something new and scary.

Wonderful story.

The best book for separation anxiety children. Great story

Cute

A simple and easy read. Very sweet for anyone who is having issues with leaving a loved one.

Instant classic!

I first heard this book for kindergarten parent orientation. I thought I was strong... The kiss on the child's paw, I didn't tear up, I kept it together. But I cannot lie when the baby does it back I almost lost my cool at school! It is such a sweet book! But be advised- have a tissue ready if you are reading this to your little raccoon for his/her first day of school.

Lovely Book

Such a lovely book! It did help us with separation anxiety.

Great service.

Just as described. Great service.

Everyone should have The Kissing Hand

This is such a sweet book. I hesitated getting it, and then reading it to my son before he started kindergarten because he acted sooo ready to GO! I was wrong. He missed his mama so much. Now he has a kissing hand, it makes it a little better....for the both of us.

Covered in Kindergarten

I got this along with Miss Bindergarten Gets Ready for Kindergarten and Kindergarten Rocks. While my boy loved this book, it wasn't the best for him before kindergarten. The first week of class, however, they covered this and had a bunch of coloring. They also did little handprints over a poem. I felt like, although this is a great addition to the library, it wasn't until the first week AFTER the start of school and AFTER covered in class that this became useful. I understand that using this book in class is pretty common practice. Also, it comes will little heart stickers to go in the palm of the hands. Sorry, but my boy just sweats too much for a sticker there. But it was a great thought!

Well Worth it!

Simply Adorable! If you have a little one who's missing their Mama or Papa take the time to buy The Kissing Hand and enjoy it healing powers!

Great for helping with separation

This book was great for my daughter going to kindergarten this year. She was very nervous and is very attached to me. We read this book Every night and morning and they even read it in her class the first week of school. A must for kids that have a hard time with being apart from parents

great book

Great for kids that are going to school and are going to be away from their moms. Classic kids book

Great book and cd

Great book with cd. The teacher that I gave it to just loved it.

Sweet story

Got this for my nephew who was starting kindergarten. Perfect before first day!

I worked and she loved all the stickers too

Bought this to give to a friend to help calm her daughter's nerves about starting school. I worked and she loved all the stickers too:)

Got my Shy Son through the First Day of Preschool

I bought this book leading up to my son's first day of school. He was very nervous. We read this book every night the week before school and it helped him to think more positive and worry less about the big day (which was a total success). The book explains that at his new school he'll have new toys to play with and things to do. And that he can take mommy's kiss in his palm throughout his whole day at school. Very cute.

Very pleased

All time favorite book as a kid it just make me smile perfect condition !

This is a must have!

This book was recommended to me by my daughters therapist. She had something happen to her that made her terrified of me not being with her at all times. This book has been a lifesaver! I need to find the book where it's the mom that leaves for work or whatever because this one is about a fear of going to school and the child leaving the mom for the day. Her fear is of me leaving so I think having both will help ease her mind even more! She is so in love with this book and she reads it to herself everyday as well as when I read it to her before I leave! Absolutely beautiful.

Precious book for children

I got this book for my small niece and nephew. It has such a lovely message. And they love the book and it’s animals!

I very cute story! I bought this for my two year old who will be starting in daycare. She will randomly ask me to kiss her hand and she giggles and puts it against her cheek. We haven't started day care but I'm hoping this will help with transition - knowing her parents love is there even when we physically can't be there.

Love the story! Great for soon to be kindergartners.

My daughter's school did this as the first week of kindergarten project. The parents drew hands and sent them to school for the kids to keep in their reading folder. They could look at them when they missed mom or dad. I really loved the story, and being a mom just about to send my little one to kindergarten, it even had me teary eyed. Love the story.

This book has given my toddler help transition from being home to going to day care. She can't go without getting her kissing hand in the morning and she really loves the stickers. Buy this book if your child is having a hard time leaving home for school!

Love, love

Love, love, love this book. Read it to my son for the first time before his first day of Kindergarten and he definitely found comfort in it. His teacher also read it to him on the first day and he loved that he already knew the story of Chester. Almost 6 months later, we still enjoy reading this and he asks me to kiss his hands when he is nervous about new situations:). Highly recommend this book for children who are going to be apart from their parents for the first time!

Perfect for any age

Beautiful story. Perfect for a child's first day of school. My daughters and I gave each other "kissing hands" for years after reading this! Perfect for anyone experiencing separation anxiety (including parents!!)

Such a heart warming story!

I bought his book for my 5YO who was entering kindergarten earlier this year. We both loved the story and it's a regular book we read together at night. I highly recommend.

This story was recommended among others for kiddos transitioning to Kindergarten who may be worried about leaving a parent. Our five and three year old love this story and it gave them a way to feel connected to us while away. The illustrations are also wonderful!

Transitions

What a wonderful tool in helping a child with the transition to Pre-school, Kindergarten, or even a new school. This book is a reminder that your love goes with them wherever they go with a simple, transitional object of a kiss in the palm of his/her hand. It certainly can't get lost like a toy or photo!! Good for young boys and girls - ages 3 through 7.

Helped to give a little more courage to go to school

Such a sweet story for the little ones

Cute book, 3 year old loves it

Cute book, my 3 year old likes it

Too sweet

On first reading I thought it was kinda lame and ott but daughter seemed to like it and it actually worked to smooth over separation when she was starting her first ever drop-off program! So a win overall!

Go to kindergarten book for 1st week

Great story for home sick kids.

Sweet tool for kids new to school

This story is a classic and a really cute tool for helping prepare kids for school. My daughter starts pre k in August and has really enjoyed our reading selections. This story is well illustrated and you can't help but love and feel for the sweet little raccoon. I would have purchased a plush with this to help with story telling but it's fine on its own as we'll.

sweet story

Such a sweet story! its a great tool to help with anxious kids parting from a parent. but it's also just a sweet story about love between parent and child.

LOVE THIS BOOK

I adore this book. It is my favorite gift to give for a baby shower or a child's birthday. Such a sweet story!!

Repeat purchase

I have given this book as a present so many times. It is heartwarming and has a good message.

Nice book!

Loved this book as a child! I can’t wait to read it to my students! The book came earlier then expected and was exactly what I wanted! It came in perfect condition and came with a sheet of stickers.

Great three year old present

We love giving this book as a birthday present to three year olds because it gets them ready to start school. If your child is starting at a new school 3-5 years of age, it’s perfect. Sweet story that keeps nervous kids feeling a bit more confident.

Super cute

Heard about the series through my sons teacher and we love them all

Great read

Cute book, my daughter loves it

Wonderful book to help young preschooler make the transition to kindergarten

My kids pre-school teacher read this book at their pre-school graduation ceremony. Pretty sure there wasn't a dry eye in the place. Definitely a favorite book of my kids when they were young. I ordered it for my great niece &nephew to read when I watch them.

every pre k student needs this book

My son's teacher told me about this book the 1st day of school and I ordered it that night. It is the story of Chester the racoon and how he is worried about school. His mom comforts him by kissing his hand and sending the kiss to school with him. Such a sweet book to help comfort little ones.

Great book

An exceptional book for young children

This is a heartwarming story that eases fears and anxiety children may have beginning a new school year or a new situation. My grandsons loved this book so much that they requested their own personal book to keep at home. We have read and reread it many times.

Beautiful children’s book

Awesome book for a young child who may have some separation anxieties it even comes with stickers to go with the story!

Great book to read to children starting school.

Great book for children.

ADORABLE

One of the MOST adorable books EVER!! Illustrations are precious!😚

The same classic from one generation to the next

Love it

So sweet

This book is so sweet and was a great book for my daughter when she went off to preschool.

Great book

Fabulous book for kids and adults and great illustrations

Perfect book for back to school

This book is very cute and perfect for any age child going away to school, preschool, daycare, camp, etc. My five-year old loves to read it to me. The included CD is s bonus. We listen to it in the car as my daughter reads along. The song is very sweet, as well. Such a perfect book for back to school!!

Great story

My daughter was very nervous about heading off to kindergarten this year, although in previous years she's had no jitters about preschool or pre-k. Bought this book the week before and read it like crazy to her, and it seemed to really help ease her nerves. Especially love that the stickers are included, although I wish they'd be a bit more adhesive. They fell off her hand pretty quickly.

Highly Recommend!

This book was a recommendation from the school councilor when my little boy struggled with first grade. I read it to him, and he loved it! Now we give each other a kiss on the palm before school any time he is feeling stressed, and it's a great comfort. I highly recommend this book, especially if your little one is dealing with a big life change.

My grandson loves his Chester CD that came with the book. It turns out that i got it for him the very week they read the book in kindergarden. They read it and he came home and got his very own copy. Worked out well

A must have book.

The Kissing Hand is a favorite book for parents and teachers. It's perfect to read to any child going off to school or to an unfamiliar place, perhaps to a new sitter. Very easy for children to understand. It will soon be a favorite for children to hear over and over. A must have and must keep.

The book is GREAT. However

The book is GREAT. However, the CD that comes with it is quite depressing. It's highly emotional, particularly the sad, sad song they play at the end. I'd recommend only the book (which is really nice and helpful for my little one going to pre-school).

Great book!

I read it to my kids almost every nite!

Very sweet story

This is just the sweetest little story for any child experiencing separation anxiety. There is a whole series of these books too. Totally recommend.

Great story

Great story for a child struggling with separation or just a reminder that they are loved.

Great therapeutic book!

Great therapeutic book!

Grandparenting!!!

A great little book with outstanding illustrations by Ruth Harper and Nancy Leak. Use it for your child’s first sleepover with grandparents or overnight camp, in addition to their first day at school!

A sweet tear jerker!

Having a daughter who is starting kindergarten next week, I had been told of this book and had to buy it. Before reading it to my daughter, I read it alone first and I'm glad I did because now I can get all the tears out and done with before I read it with her lol what a great book, not only for her but for me too!!

Loved this book

I read this on FaceTime to my granddaughter and loved it so much I had to buy the book. I am not disappointed and will cherish the memories I make with her while reading this book.

Great book!

Read this at the beginning of every school year!

Sweet story

My 3 1/2 year old loves this book. She asks to read it every night. It’s such a sweet story with wonderful illustrations.

My child’s favorite book!

Get book to read to your kids. Started a family tradition with this book.

Beautiful story and we use the kissing hand daily!

Cutest sweetest book ever. My 4 yr old son absolutely loves it and so do I.

Great book for apprehensive preschoolers

This sweet book helped our preschooler get through the days that she didn’t want to go to school.

Awesome story

An awesome story for children going to school for the first time.

Five Stars

Great book to help with school anxiety. Stickers in the back make it one of the faves.

My son loves this book - such a sweet story. It talks about a little one scared to go to preschool and how a special kiss from his mother helps me overcome his nervousness. Great for my preschooler.

A heartwarming story

My sons and I learned about this book while visiting a friend in the midwest. I ordered it as soon as we returned home. It is a heartwarming story. I especially love it and have used the story for saying good bye at preschool and when I have to travel for business. I think it would also be a cute gift for anyone nervous about embarking on a new adventure, young or old. Get it! This book will become one of your favorites.

Love

Love love love

Can't wait to read it to my kindergarteners next year!

Super cute book with great illustrations and a message of love and faithfulness.

Cute

Cute story

Great book!

This is one of our favorite books! It is so good for kids who may have some separation anxiety. It can also help with adults who are nervous about kids starting school or a new daycare.

Great story my 3-year-old loves

I bought this on recommendation from my 3-year-old son's therapist about two-three weeks ago. His daddy and I are separated, which means I no longer can remain a stay at home mom. So taking my son to daycare was really hard on him. I bought this book along with a stuffed animal, Chester, the raccoon. Both items have helped to make transition from home to school to even dad's house so much smoother. I let my son take the stuffed animal with him to his daddy's house so he sleeps with it every night. Then when he is home with me we read the story every night before bed.

Helps children learn about how they

Love this book. It helped my child deal with the anxiety of me being away on some trips or outings.

adorable

This is such a cute book for children who are nervous about going to school. My kids love it and they love the chester stuffed animal as well.

... who is graduation high school because this is our favorite book that we read together when she was young

I am giving this to my daughter who is graduation high school because this is our favorite book that we read together when she was young! I still remember giving each other the "kissing hand" whenever we had to be away from each other.

This book is amazing! Our 3-year-old was headed off to preschool for the first time and I used this book to help excite our little one and hopefully alleviate any concerns he may have had. It helped both mom and son to bond over this time and to be excited about it together.

Love this book

This was a great book for my preschooler who was nervous at morning drop off before school. Drop offs have definitely improved since we implemented the kissing hand and we continue to read the book sometimes at bedtime.

Lovely book

My sister loved this book when younger and still does! I highly recommend it.

So sweet and a great message!

This is great book to give to your little one on the first day of school or any day you will be apart. My daughter loves this story!

Sweet story

One of my favorite books

Loved the book BUT

I loved the book and my kids enjoyed very much BUT I was very annoyed I paid $6 and there was a garage sale sticker in the book when I received that said 10 cents! Seriously!!!!

Great story for mothers of young children about to go to school!

Such an adorable story that really seems to be a great message for parents learning to let go of their children when they go off to school. Very memorable. I read this book a few months ago and decided to purchase it to give as a Christmas gift to my aunt.

The Kissing Hand

My four year old grandson was having a hard time at preschool when it was nap time - missing mommy and not wanting to stay "in his spot" for 2 hours. One morning his mother told him the story of The Kissing Hand. When she told me about what a rough time Brady was having, I immediately went to Amazon and purchased the book at an extremely reasonable price, I might add. I was delighted when it arrived long, long before the promised date. Needless to say, Brady absolutely LOVES this book and the heart stickers with "I Love You" were also a tremendous hit (just wish they would stick a little longer). Mom also made a small child size photo album of family members and friends for Brady to look at when he gets lonely at school. He did comment that he would still be sad because he wanted a "real mommy" not a "picture mommy!"

Five Stars

One of the best books ever written for children with seperation anxiety. Wonderfully illustrated as well.

Made our day!

We love this book! My daughter especially loved it because the last page of the book has the raccoon signing in ASL the "I love you" sign. My daughter is deaf so this just made her day seeing the raccoon's hand signing it! For that reason in itself this book is a winner!

Amazing

This is an amazing book!!! We love it.

Sweet story

I bought this for my daughter (2 1/2 at the time) before she started preschool this past fall. For several weeks, every day before her nap this is the story she wanted to read. Once she started preschool, this became our little tradition and she still gets a huge smile on her face whenever one of us asks for a "kissing hand".

Preschool classic

Great story to help preschoolers cope with being without mom for a period of time. I bought this book for a cryer in my class to help them transition. We'd read it whenever they got dropped off. Would buy again.

Great for children starting something new

This book was a tear jerker for me. The story tells of a valuable tool a child can use if and when they feel alone being away from their mother/father/parent. Even if your child isn't in pre-k- first grade, starting something new such as a new school, or sport can really help them conceptualize that they're parents are always with them.

a must-have for little ones about to start school

my son received this book as a gift when he was 2 years old and about to start preschool. he is now 14. it's a must-have classic. it helped me start the process/conversation of getting him ready to start school. i now give this book to all the little ones i know who are about to start preschool. beautiful book!

Recommended for kindergarteners

Sweet story, excellent message, and a secret weapon for parents of kids nervous about heading off to a new school, new daycare, new whatever.

A teacher must have

Every teacher, who by nature live kiddie lit, should own this. The CD was a bonus.

Wonderful book

Shipped quickly. A perfect book to read if a child is starting school.

Sweet Story!

Sweet story for a Mom to read when her child is going to school for the first time. Also great as a gift for a teenager going off to college! Sweet, sweet story of a Mom's love "going with you" where ever you are!

Short but touching story

I like the tender way it deals with separation anxiety. At the end of the day, all children need is a little assurance that some trace of their parents goes with them, wherever they are :)

Amazing LOVE

This book made my daughter and I do the things that the characters did! It made us feel the same way that they felt in the story! We both smiled and giggled and felt very happy and loved!

Love

Great book for Parents and kids

Must-have for kids!

Wonderful book to help ease the jitters of the first day of school. While my little one has not hit that age yet, if we have to leave her with family or a babysitter, she knows that she has a kiss from each of us in her hand that she can hold on to. It has definitely been effective in our household. Very sweet book!

Beautiful story and illustrations

Beautiful story. My grandson loves.

No child should go without this book...

The Kissing Hand is a beautifully written book for children of ALL ages (even the adult children!!). My five year old loves this book and we read it together at least 3 times a week. We now have a tradition of giving each other "the kissing hand" before she heads into school each morning. It's also good for a parent who is away from home a lot, so the child can take their kissing hand with them wherever Mom or Dad can't be.

Missing the CD

I never write reviews. BUT, this package was missing the CD. And my only recourse is to send it back and wait for a replacement, however, I need this book for my daughter starting school and can’t wait. Just want to give people a heads up!
