My son loves this book. Each section is only a few pages so they hold his attention. He also says the book is not boring as there are lots of colors and fonts so it stimulates his brain to read it. Some of the reviews criticize the book claiming it is not a suitable devotional. I don't think the book is really intended as such. I think it is more intended to get teenage boys to THINK about the world we live in today and how the choices they make now shape who they become as an adult and teaches them how they can help themselves make better choices. My son has read most of the book and has discussed a lot of it with me - pointing out different perspectives that he had not considered that have helped him to better understand why his dad and I have made certain decisions regarding his restrictions and consequences for violating those restrictions. All in all, very pleased with this purchase.
Best boys devotion ages 9-17
We just finished this book. It was our nightly devotion for the past four months. My boys are ages 9,13 & 15. I cannot express to you how valuable this book has been. Each night as we read the devotion together, sometimes blushing, we Cover topics that boys need to hear. I cannot recommend this book enough!
Misogynistic garbage
Thankfully, I read through this book before giving it to my son. It’s a sexist piece of crap that encourages boys to see girls and women as objects and less than them. Please don’t buy this for your son.
loves God and so I thought this would be a great book for him
I have a 15yr old son who loves to read, loves God and so I thought this would be a great book for him. It is well written and helps him to understand things such as girls and dating. It is a must have for teenage boys everywhere.
Practical great advice and FUNNY!!
This book is an awesome book for junior high through high school guys! The author offers hilarious, real advice like take a shower, shave that peach fuzz, use gum! He balances it with tough truths that every young man needs to hear—no means no, get off porn, read your Bible daily. Each topic is short, straightforward, and usually filled with humor. The guys that read them loved the book and got through it quickly! I’m buying more for my youth group guys!

This is one of about 8 books I purchased for my 13yo's sex-ed studies. We are very happy with the purchase and like he other books they seem to be very helpful. He's a big reader to start with and given the subject, I expected this. However he is learning so much and we are talking more with him. He feels free to bring it up, not us. He's no longer emarised about the subject and speaks about it like a young adult should, freely. Yet he still believes sex if strictly for marriage, Which had been supported more by the reading. We just don't want him to be naive, we know how sexualized every aspect of life has become.
Great book!
I bought this book for my little brother, age 13, since he is going into that phase where he is practically new things. I was a bit iffy about buying this for a gift because my brother doesn't really read but it resulted that my brother actually started reading the book. He enjoys the book and even wants to let a cousin borrow it. Great book!
This is perfect for my 13-year old son
This is perfect for my 13-year old son, it was a Christmas gift, and we now enjoy reading a bit in the morning before school or in the evening before bed. A wonderful way to begin or end the day. Not only are these valuable lessons that give us something to think on, but it is also great for either/both his father and I to read with our son, and it opens up the chance to discuss what we are reading. My lone complaint (and it's not really even a complaint!) is I wished there was more scripture verses, but overall this is an excellent book for a young man!! Thank you!
Great book for teen boys!
I wanted a devotional type book that was practical for teenage boys and related to things they are dealing with at their age. We started adding the readings to our night time devotions with my son at night. They are great reminders and lessons, and I'm glad we decided to buy this book! Most nights the tips are very relatable to things we've dealt with having a 16 year old son. Most nights a scripture passage is included that goes along with the tip. There are a few that are just for fun (with no Bible verses) like "10 movies you must see." I haven't seen all of the movies mentioned, so I'm not sure if they are good choices or not. For the most part, we have really appreciated the tips in this book and have liked the conversations it has opened up for us with our son. It would be great for younger teens (and tweens) and is good for older teens as well.
Best Christian book for teenage boys
We've made a lot of effort in trying to find something that our teenage son can relate to that would encourage his relationship with God. We purchased a teenage-based bible, teenager devotional books, dvd's on apologetics and although he has participated in reading/watching, he hasn't shown a genuine interest like he has with this book. We have a blended family and my son's dad doesn't oppose his Christianity, but he will give his views on Christianity, which are sometimes inconsistent with my husband and I's. This in turn has created difficulties in keeping our son on track what we are trying to encourage. This book is amazing because it provides practical and relatable advice in Christian-based messages. We do one devotional/week with him and he is very engaged in our discussions and has mentioned numerous times that he enjoys the book. It not only give great advice for him, but my husband and I have gotten a lot out of it as well. Very highly recommend this book for any teenage boy.

I liked it all
I liked it all. Read it before I gave it to my Grandson ( 12 ) He is your typical " I know everything " so I had to find something that wasn't to hokey and yet keep his interest. I loved it because...It keeps God in the story line without pressure, makes it so doable, funny, genuine. Each tip has a page and it covers the angle of God, girls and their phones! This author has to have had boys!! Great price and great book.
My 14 y/o boy enjoys.
Before I gave this to my son, my husband and I went through it. It made both of us laugh and my son enjoys it too. There was one page about PMS that as a woman I was taken back a little. But my husband told me it was spot on advice and very good for our son to hear. I confidently and proudly recommend this book. My advise- read it first. You’ll get a good laugh.
Best Amazon purchase by far.
My son... loves this book?! I bought this as a Christmas gift for my (mature) almost 10 year old. I really expected only some polite acceptance on his part and that I would be the one initiating the reading. But he LOVES IT! He begs me to read just a little more each night before bed. He says it’s all so interesting. There are a few topics we’ve come across so far that were a bit over his head (sexual subjects) but since I was the one reading I could adjust the language a bit for his age level. We’ve started reading some during the day occasionally also and this has been like a doorway of communication that opened between he and I. It is such a gift I find myself overwhelmed with gratitude towards the author and so incredibly happy I made this purchase. This was by far my best buy in all my years of Amazon shopping.
Great book
Great book. I’m a mom raising a boy without his dad around and as much as I may try to play both roles, I can’t, I know that. I bought this book to help me out with advice to give and support and it really has done just that. My 12 year old son may not be ready to listen to some of the stories or advice. However, the chapters I have chosen to share with him are so relatable. it gets us talking about things we normally wouldn’t talk about. we get to elaborate on different topics and it gives him tons of clarity. it’s a conversation starter for sure. he really does enjoy reading it together. It truly is a great buy for all!
What every young man needs to have
I bought this book for my nephew who recently turned 18 and is dating now. I told him that this book is a great guide to his avoidance of "Domestic Situations" in the future. In other words; to "stay out of jail". There is so much Domestic Violence going on in the world, that books such as this should be a textbook in public schools, to train boys to give the ladies in their lives the utmost respect. This book goes beyond the teachings in the home. It gives young boys a perspective that they would sometimes ignore when adults say it to them.
Fabulous Morals and Values
Having a teenage boy, I have to say this book is an absolute god send! It hits every point I have wanted to discuss with him. Using real life scenarios that click so easily with them! It has discussions at the end of each chapter that we love to talk about with him. He enjoys this book as well, and you can tell it has his wheels spinning. I wish every parent would find this book! Thank you!!!!

I asked my son how is the book and his response was "mom, this book gave me a peace I was yearning for" As a mother with a 13 year old son that I just can't seem to figure out sometimes to hear him say this I had to come back and publicly thank the Author for this book.
This is a fantastic book!
This is a fantastic book!! I have been reading a chapter a night with my son and it really hits home for it. It addresses alot of the issues that teens deal with in todays society! Ranges from technology, to personal hygiene, to certain sexual conversations. Could be used as just a devotional as well that your son can read. If you are looking for a good devotional book for your son that deals with todays issues, this is it!!
My teen actually liked the book!
My teen actually likes this book, in fact he may reread it! I purchased it with an eye roll from my teen, when it came in I got another eye roll, but he took it off to his room though it seemed like he didn't really want to. Now he's often reading it and has appreciated lots of advice on many different things especially the phone in his pocket.
Would be 5-stars, except tip #91
This is a good book with real world advice for Christian teen boys, except for the movie recommendations in tip #91 Ten Movies You Must See that include PG-13 and R-rated movies that have lots of trashy content and language. I disagree with #91 and find the author to be contradictory with tip #62 Be Careful What You Allow on Your Playlists where he says to skip raunchy songs.
Finally!
Finally a book to share with guys! I have often lamented the fact that while there seems to be a lot advice books for teen girls, there are almost none written for the guys! So thankful for Jonathan McKee's courage to write on difficult topics without flinching and his willingness to mentor guys around the world with this book. I passed my kindle copy around after I downloaded and the guys that checked it out can't wait to get a copy of their own.
Great study.
I bought this for my 14yo, and he finished it within two months. He loved it. I DID read through it and took a sharpie to some of the things I thought were too blunt or unnecessary for him to read, but overall it was a great study that I’d recommend.
Use puppies to manipulate women? REALLY??
I would not recommend this book to anyone. Please revise, update, or stop publishing. It is deplorable that in this day and age it would be acceptable for an editor to pass this garbage, suggesting that if a girl is not paying attention to a boy, just get a puppy. Any boy who believes this garbage needs serious saving!!
more like life advice from an older guy than a devotional ...
My 14 year old reads an entry of this along with his daily Bible reading and is enjoying it. It's not too preachy and is relevant...more like life advice from an older guy than a devotional (I found this by searching for devotionals).
Good for 13 yr. boy; provide guidance for sensitive topics
Purchased for grandson's 13th B'day. My daughter read it first; overall a great gift for this age. Be sure an adult is available to explain some of the topics
Great Devotional for Young Teens
If you have a young man in your life that is beginning to show interest in the opposite sex this book is wonderful. In a culture where anything and everything goes this devotional helps young men to understand what to look for and what to look out for when it comes to relationships. Very pleased with this book. Highly recommend to anyone with young boys becoming young men.
Great Advice, Great Book
I bought this book for my step-son in hopes it could teach him things that I just couldn't. I read it first of course and I was so surprised at the tough questions this book tackled and it's no-nonsense yet enjoyable approach. I absolutely recommend this book to anyone who has a preteen or teenager even if they're on the right path this is a helpful tool.
Great for teenage boys
Got this for my 16 year old nephew and he likes it. The author did an amazing job with speaking to the teenager and my nephew respects the ideas and has been more attentive.
For Adults Only
I consider this book for 18 and older. It is not appropriate for 13 yr old.
Very religious
I didn't realize just how religious this book is until it arrived. It is not what I was looking for.
Wonderful book for Moms and Sons to read together!
GREAT book to read with younger or older teenage boys. My son and I are doing a lesson a night together as a daily bible study and the prompts in the book have been an excellent way for me to communicate with him as a single mom, about tough issues. Our nightly conversations have been wonderful!
My 15 year old son is enjoying this book!
My 15 year old son doesn’t like to read very much but he is constantly reading this book on his own time. Blessed to see this.
Teen Boy? This is a must read for them!
Common sense straightforward guide for male teens in our ever changing world. Make sure you equip the young males in your family for the world at large and the moral standards you want them to consider important. Fun read, quick witted, fantastic engaging presentation.
Great conent, arrived timely & in excellent condition
My child is enjoying reading this book very much (I don't have to ask, my child just picks it up!). It arrived timely and in excellent condition.
Advice for a teenage boy
I had bought this as a gift for my grandson at his mother's suggestion. I was uncomfortable with some of the content in the book and may not have bought it If I had looked at it ahead of time.
you know it was a good idea.
A gift purchases for our 15 yr-old son but the advice and words of wisdom contained really apply to girl or boy, woman or man. Our son read the book in a week then thanked us for getting it for him. When a teenager does that, you know it was a good idea.

My husband wanted to purchase this book for our 12 year-old son. While I have not personally read it, my husband and son are working their way through it as I write this. I have flipped through the book, stopping on certain pages to review the information, and from what I've seen, it's going to be very useful to him during this most important time in his life when he is going so many life changes concerning his body and social life.
Get It Before He Turns 13!!!
Good read. Be sure to get this book for your son or brother before turns 13...after that it's too late and he'll think this book is lame.
I'm glad that I came across this book
I believe this is a timely book of short reads that cover important topics for teenage guys. I bought this for my son, who will soon be turning 17. I'm glad that I came across this book.
wasn't what was expected.

Great book for guys!
Great book for guys of all ages, from tweens, to teens upwards... Bought copies of it for the kids and gentlemen in my life all the way up to Grandpa. Very practical and insightful.
Good stuff per my 13 yr old
Bought this for my 13 yr old. He is enjoying the book. He thinks the advice is "good stuff."
Great for high school boys
Purchased as a gift for my son, who's graduating from high school this spring. Great read for his age!
Great for teen boys
Great practical devotional. Easy to read
Informative
The 12 year old liked it.
Book
Great book for young men!
Gift for my son
Gift for my 16 year old son
Great insights that teens will relate to
Life is a journey and teenage guys are beginning to decide which roads they follow. The world bombards guys in many different contexts that life is about looking out for yourself and doing whatever makes you happy at the moment. In Jonathan's book Guy's guide to God, Girls and the cell phone in your pocket , Jonathan decides to counter the world's negative messages in complete new direction showing Guys that they do not need to fit into the cookie cutter standards of the world. Although many different subjects are discussed throughout the book, all of them can be put into several categories: 1 guys do have choice in what direction they are going to go and every choice that is made has effects on other people in either a positive or negative way, 2 the importance of having and developing strong relationships with both God and with the people who are part of the teen's life. Jonathan knows what teen guys are dealing with and writes a book that they will enjoy reading while at the same time be challenged to think about what God says on the different topics. Jonathan gives guys hope that they can make a difference in the world in which they live in. This is a book that I would recommend to guys who are trying to figure out which direction to take in their journey of life. Andy kratzer Youth leader
Fantastic!!
Bought this for my 13 year old. We are reading through it together. It's fantastic! Covers important topics I wouldn't know how to cover with him.
Great!
This book goes through some things I would never bring up in regular conversation with my sons. It’s a great devotional I do with my boys.
A good read for a preteen or teen
This book has some good stuff in it & tells it like it is. Perfect for the hard to reach teenager. Even though they act like they hate reading, it sparks enough interest that they do read it when you're not looking.
Highly recommended
Purchased this book for our 15 year old. We have been reading it as a nightly devotional as a family. Great way to have open communication about some uncomfortable subjects regarding teens. Highly recommend it!
Wonderful book!
This is a great book! I'm very impressed with it. My grandson is 14 and it's time for him to know these things. I love that the pages are short messages instead of long pages on one subject. Really great!
Great Christian Book
I am always unsure when buying Christian books, but I have now read this book before giving it to my grandson and I really like it!
Great book to guide young men along the right path
Great book to guide young men along the right path. I read it before I gave it to my son. He seems grateful. We will see. He is a teen. LOL
Great discussions.
Excellent for discussing things with your teen.
Stepping Stones to Help Guys Step Up to Godly Manhood
OK, I'm giving this book four stars because everyone else seems to be jumping on the five-star bandwagon. I just don't give out 5 star ratings all that much. With that being said, this is a good book for guys and I did like it. It read like an older guy sitting down with a younger guy and passing along some valuable information about life, love and common sense. It was hard to read in one sitting, although I don't think Jonathan planned for it be that kind of book. It's more like the kind of book a guy picks up and finds the section he needs at that moment it's called for. It's also a great read for guy groups wanting to have some practical topics of conversation about being men who pursue God. Jonathan McKee is one of favorite writers of youth ministry resources. He's in tune with youth culture and has a heart to help those who work with them. His writing is very practical (which I appreciate tremendously) and speaks to the issues that affect students and youth workers. Kudos to Jonathan, once again, for going after the stuff that needs be out there in youth ministry!
Love this book for my teen brother
Got for my brothers birthday since hes getting older & can drive now & he loves this book!
Five Stars
Awesome!
After receiving the first copy I ordered two more copies
I gave each of my three grandsons a copy of this book.
AMAZING! THANK YOU!
Hott Synopsis: Every day each of us is faced with choices. What you chose will determine the course of your life. No, it’s not drama. It’s cause and effect. Spend a little time each day and see what choices God wants you to make and why. Yes, even HE has something to say about screen-time! Hott Review: What I liked: This book is amazing! It’s s series of short Q&A essays to not only help teens learn how to conquer their choices God’s way but also what to look for so they don’t start heading down the wrong path. My favorite part? As a girl reading it hit me that they weren’t pulled together in a specific format but then it hit me that the book reminded me of a conversation with my teen sons. Short. To the Point. No Fluff. Just Facts. Perfect for a teen’s brain! What I didn’t like: There are some subjects broached that are not appropriate for all teens. Yes, they’ll encounter them but they may not be ready to think about them. More… Author: Jonathan McKee Source: Shiloh Run Press via Netgalley then I bought it (& the sequal) for myself!! Grade: A Ages: 15+ Steam: YA — There are some controversial topics that all teens may not be ready to read. Do a quick review before handing this over to your teen.
Its a Boy
its a gift for my nephew
Teen Book of Wisdom
It was what I wanted to give my grandson.
Great book
Easy to read great stuff
Excellent read
I read this book along with my 12 year old son. It was insightful, witty and relevant. We both enjoyed it tremendously and it opened up meaningful conversations between us. I would highly recommend it to anyone with a teenager or very soon to be teenager.
Looking forward to my son going thur this.
Great gift for my 12 year old son
Great advice in an easy to read format
Meant for young teen boys, won't hurt older teens or even young adults to read it
Great Resource for Teenage Guys!
Jonathan McKee has written an excellent guide for today's teenage guys! This book has a great mix of wisdom on all aspects of a teenager's life: relationships, technology, self-image, hygiene, relationship with Jesus, etc. Jonathan dispenses wisdom using a direct approach that I think will appeal to his intended audience. He does a great job of varying the topics that he addresses and each tip is to the point but also thorough. Here is a sampling of some of the topics he addresses: 1. Do you want to attract girls? Brush your teeth! 2. Be careful what you allow on your playlists. 3. Shave that fuzz you call a mustache. 4. Speeding doesn't show a guy's masculinity; it reveals his immaturity. 5. God sees everything you do, so you might as well get real with him. 6. If you want to be a better man, be a better disciple of Jesus. 7. You aren't the future of the church ... you are the church now! I greatly appreciate that Jonathan includes questions for the reader to ask himself in each tip. Instead of merely dispensing information, the reader is given questions to prompt him to stop and consider the information he just read and how it applies to his life. He also includes scripture and questions to unpack the verses. There is not scripture included in every tip which would make it a good resource for those who are new to the Christian faith as well as those who are more spiritually mature. As a youth worker, I see several ways that this book could be utilized. If you lead a guys small group, this would be a great resource for leaders. You could share one or two tips at the beginning of your small group time to warm up the guys for whatever lesson you have planned for the evening. If you are in a mentoring relationship with a teenage guy this would be a great resource for the mentor and mentee to read together and discuss. This would also make a great gift for a guy going into high school or heading off to college. This book would also be a great tool for fathers to use with their sons.
Be a parent and enjoy your son too.
Talk to your kids about living in this world more than playing in a digital one. Great tool for the discussion.
Good, funny stuff
Very good for teen boys
Highly recommend!
This book has so much great advice. Perfect for the pre-teen/teen boy in your life. It helps navigate their moral compass, and glorifies the prosperity of a life of discipleship.
Great quality
Very well packaged and looks just as pictured. Very good quality. Material appears to be very well suited for my 16 year old twin brothers.
Worth a shot...
I flipped through and found some topics applicable. My 15 yr old really liked it; he highlighted things, marked pages and took notes.
Love it!
I bought this for my teenage son and read a few of the pages before giving it to him. It's very entertaining with life lesson set to bible verses.

Four Stars
Nice! I would buy again!
The kids and the parents love it.
Gave this to my Sunday school class. The kids and the parents love it.
Yay!
Skimmed through it and can tell already it will be a great book for my teenager. However I am thinking the teenager who tried to open my package on my doorstep might have needed this book more than I think my teen does.
Easy Read
Our teenage son likes this devotional. He says it's an easy read and relatable. That's what we were hoping for. Something easy but effective.
Perfect for my 13 year old grandson
Perfect for my 13 year old grandson. I put it in his Easter Basket. But I read it first, and like what it says and how it's written. My grandson is a Jesus follower and this will be a good book for his to read!
Every teenage boy should read this
My boys enjoyed this book. I didn't have to nag them to read it so that's a plus!
Ok
It was for my grandson and he seemed to like it
Gift for Teenage Boys
Always good to have teenage boys hear wisdom from someone in addition to me. They did not like all of it but that’s ok a couple of pearls of wisdom works too.
Bread teen book!
Every teen boy should read this! Love how it is arranged in topics. They can skip around and read what they are interested in.
Gives another perspective
Awesome for teen boys, they’d likely listen to these life lessons a lot quicker than they’d listen to parents
Great Book
Great book and my 13 y/o enjoys it as well. i have recommended to every 8th grade parent (boys).
Great Buy
Grandson says this is the 2nd best book he has read!! It covers everything.
Great book
I read some of this book before giving it as a gift great book for teens
Great book for teenage boys
Very unique book. Especially helpful for teenage boys about to enter manhood, especially when their faith is important to them.
My 12 year old son likes it
A good devotional for my son....so far nothing has been out of his age wheelhouse yet.

One word- RELEVANT!
McKee does an excellent job of using modern day real world situations that our teens deal with daily. This book would be excellent for a small group boys study or a father and son study. Each chapter is easy to read and short. At the end is a list of applicable questions to make you think about what was covered in the chapter. The best part is that McKee pulls scripture into each chapter and clearly shows what the Word of God says about a particular topic. As a mom of two young sons I am thankful for someone who always stays relevant to what our children face day to day. McKee is also not afraid to tackle some very touchy subjects head on with Godly direction. Sometimes in the church we are afraid to talk about certain things because it makes us uncomfortable or maybe we just don't know the answer. This book will help you talk through some of those difficult things with your son. I highly recommend this book for anyone looking to become closer to their son. It's perfect for those difficult topics and knowing what the Word of God says. Very insightful and thoughtful. Would make a great gift for a young tween or teen boy or a group study for boys.
Teenager gift
Great book for teenage boys. WS a gift for a 15 year old. He seems to like it.
Love the idea. Hope my grandson enjoys it
Cool book, stocking gift for grandson.

Relevant, Practical, & Challenging!
Jonathan's method of no-nonsense writing using stories, humor, and real-life examples will appeal to a wide range of young men and will engage them in their own lives. This book is at once funny, deeply spiritual, relevant, genuine, and challenging. It provides wisdom for guys in light of current culture. It is widely practical with advice in, among others, learning how to cook, the art of smelling good, and quotes like, "A real man knows how to talk to a woman face-to-face." Each topic is short enough for anyone to read quickly and yet give enough content for thorough reflection. The book is jam packed full of useful, yet challenging questions to make you think deeply about each topic and how it applies to your life. Jonathan covers a wide range of topics such as anger, friendship, healthy communication, the use of electronics, manhood, responsibility, the ladies, decision-making, sexuality, and Cocoa Puffs! I would highly recommend this book for young men, youth workers, and parents of teenage guys!

Very nice birthday gift for teen and practicle!
perfect for a teen boy!
Excellent Book and format
As a father and youth pastor, I love this book. The format is very straight forward and blunt about the issues. There is no sugar coating but yet it is not tacky. Not only does this book give you the tips but also asks questions for the reader to think about, so it can be applied to their life. Jonathan backs up the tips with Scripture. It is an easy and fast read. It will be easy to get young men to read the book. I found that this is a book that I will be using in my roles both as father and youth pastor. I will be using it and recommending it to fathers and youth pastors. Another great book, Jonathan!
Worth your time!
I just finished reading McKee's "Guy's Guide to God and Girls ..." and I really enjoyed it! I think that he brought up many excellent points that many guys need to hear today. He was able to hit on some key points clearly, yet without losing his main point of emphasis. I also appreciated how he incorporated Scripture into many of his main points. It was a good read that I'd recommend!

On point reality check for teen guys!
This is great for any teen guy! No fluff here! The author makes each topic short but precise. He included a scripture reference and candid questions for the guys to ask themselves. He also has a great sense of humor. My 17 year old now realizes it's not just me nagging but choices he really should be making and taking responsibility for all of his choices.
Great read

A must-read for all teen boys and their parents
I highly recommend Jonathan McKee's book, "Guy's Guide to God, Girls and the Phone In Your Pocket!" His book is full of truth and wisdom that is presented in a gracious and engaging way! Each chapter hits on a different issue that I want my boys to be mindful of, and then gives them practical advice on how to deal with this issue! McKee also points them to God and encourages them to seek His strength and wisdom. He knows what young men in our culture and this generation are facing, and addresses those things in an honest and forthright way with pearls of wisdom. This book is full of advice on how to be a man--inside and out!. Thank you so much for writing this book! It is a tool that my husband and I can put in our boys' hands that will reinforce the things we are trying to teach them. Margaret - mother of 3 young men (and 3 young ladies)
Highly recommend!!
Wonderful book for teenage boys!! Discusses so many topics that young men need to hear and how to deal with them.

Just What I expected!
Whenever Jonathan puts a book I pre-order it immediately because I trust it's truth and I know I'll be able to use it with my kids! This book is no different. At first, reading it as a "girl" I was concerned about how "girls" might be portrayed. What I found was how every "girl" wants to be treated, like she something special. Thank you Jonathan! The rest was perfect! As a mom of a 9year old boy, I sometimes wonder about how to talk to him about many of the issues in the book. How will I deal with those tough questions? Jonathan put my mind to rest and offered me a way to start a conversation (sometimes the hardest part) not only with my son but with the young men in my youth group! I envision my male team mentoring my guys! One thing I really loved was the scriptural connections! It makes it so easy to make the connections! Once again, Jonathan, you've hit it out of the ball park! Thank you for this blessing! Elise Chapman St. Ann Catholic Church Colonial Heights, Virginia

Great Resource
Love the practical advise Jonathan gives for guys. This book is a great resource to give to a teenaged son, grandson, friend. One of the things that I loved was having some great questions at the end of the chapters to help reflect and even talk over with some of your friends or family. Really easy read with great advice. I highly recommend this book.
A great guide for Men!
This book helps young men to be self sufficient and very informative on male related topics!
A youth's guide to love through the eyes of G-d
I bought this as a Christmas present for my stepson because he is 14 about to turn 15 and at that stage in life where's he's starting to notice girls and they are noticing him and I want him to learn how to receive that attention in a positive way and seek the Lord in this area of his life because, let's face it, we were all there and we know that it's a hard and confusing time in life and who better to help him deal with it than the Lord? Anyway, he hasn't read it yet but it's on his to-read list and I hope the Lord blesses this book and all youth who read it and may they walk into that season of their lives prepared spiritually for what's ahead..
Worth the investment
My son reads his Bible a lot more consistently due to this book. I love it!

My son liked it.
Great book from beginning to end.
I love this book. My son is 12 years old and I have had the "talk with him" so this was a great book to follow up on things he is learning about from his friends. It's also gives great advice on how to handle situations that will come up as he gets older. I love that it reinforces our belief in God. I read the book and then told my son that we can go over any chapter he wanted more information on as he read it. It's a fabulous resource guide for preteens and teens.
awesome book!
Our son is already reading it for the second time, he said... awesome book!!!
A Much Needed Book that Speaks truthfully to young men
I gave this a 5 star rating because it is a great resource for Youth Pastors and parents of young guys. This book could and should be used to open up dialogue on subjects that some persons feel awkward discussing, especially young guys with parents or even other guy friends. Could be used as one minute meditations and discussion starters for group settings. As a pastor with 20 years plus in ministry I definitely will make sure the young men of my church will get a copy of this book. Pastor Gary McDonough

As described
Guy's really need to read this
This is a great book to give to any teenage guy. My wife and I are the youth pastor's and as I read the tips(advice) given I found myself saying "that would make a good lesson." I wish I would have read this when I was a teenager. There are tips from encouraging teenage boys to learn to cook to examining your spiritual walk with the Lord. Some tips have a scripture and some do not. Some tips will ask you questions that will cause you to examine your life in the physical and the spiritual. As I read thru the tips I found myself laughing at times and also saying "oohhh that is good." For example: Are you a lava lamp or a spotlight is tip #11. One of the things I am considering doing is getting the boys together on a Sunday morning since that is when we have class and go over several tips or another option would be for the teenage boys to use the tips as part of their daily devotional. Since each tip might take between 2-5 minutes read. I recommend this book.
Direct, honest, and useful for teen guys
Jonathan Mckee has done a great job of hitting his target audience with this book. I've been a youth pastor for nearly 15 years, and I wish this book had come along sooner than now... Guys need this kind of direct, sometimes in-your-face, honest advice, written directly to them. The book gives spot-on advice on just about every aspect of a teen guy's life, like girls, guts, hygiene, fun, friends, trash-talking, focus, choices, consequences, and most importantly, how to pursue a life that honors God in all of those areas. This book would be a great tool for a one-on-one mentoring situation, or perhaps a guys' small group. Each one the advice points (except #99) contain great thought-provoking questions and at least an easily-relatable verse of Scripture to get you thinking. The points are each short enough to be read in a minute or two, but seriously chewing through the questions would take a while longer. An outstanding book for guys.... I plan to buy several copies for my students. If you're a teen guy, you need this advice! If you're a parent of a teen guy, not only does your student need this advice, but you might learn something from it too!
Thumbs Up
everyone young buy should own this. Teaches great values in a boyish way.

Written from a one sided misogynistic point of view.
Got this book as a gift for my son. Are you kidding me seriously? There are about 10 valid points out of 101. What about teaching our sons that women can be career focused and driven too? That a woman’s opinions matters and counts as well. My trigger alert: check out tip 101. Learn to recognize Ms Hyde. Truly worth burning a book over. It alludes that all women and girls are emotional trainwrecks. Also, stating to ignore a women’s feelings and instead Flee!! Your best bet it says?? Don’t do a thing and find the nearest exit. Compassion and understanding? Nope. Offering to help or communicate. Nope. Instead flee like a coward. Thanks for showing me what to not teach my sons. Also, the part about God wants you to enjoy your wife’s breasts. That’s cool if she wants you to but does she have a say at all. I think with the pointers in this book that would be a Hard No. We are still living in a man’s world. Sadly. But teach young men how to be compassionate and respectful. So disappointed this was even printed. Should have saved the ink for the countless divorce papers that will need it because of this book.

Father's of daughters say "Thank You Jonathan!!"
As a father to two daughters as well a Children's Pastor, this is an amazing tool for parents. Whether you have daughters or sons, this is a must read for parents, and start when they are young!! I appreciate the straight forward approach and discussion of some very delicate topics. These range from pornography to premarital sex. The format is such that each chapter lends itself to great conversation starters for you to have with your teenage sons as well as reminders to your daughters what truly is a reflection of a Godly young man. Once again, parents...OWN THIS BOOK and USE THIS BOOK!!! Joe Vivian Children's Pastor Eastern Hills Baptist Church Albuquerque, NM
Required Reading (At least it should be!)
Well, I'd like to tell Jonathan McKee that he wrote this book about 20-25 years too late. But since we're about the same age, I suppose I can't hold that against him. But Guy's Guide to God, Girls, and The Phone In Your Pocket is a bold package of advice I could have used more of when I was a teenage guy. I have read a lot of Jonathan' writing, from previous books to faithfully following his blog. If you're in youth ministry, or a parent of a teen, you should too. The subtitle to this gem is 101 Real-World Tips for Teenage Guys. He could have just as easily called it Tellin' It Like It Is! McKee doesn't mince words when handing out this advice, nor should he. If men want to be treated like men, then they should stand up and hear the truth like men. Jonathan has written a book aimed at teenage guys and thought it through in doing so. Each chapter is short and has good questions to ask of yourself, or use in a small group setting. I don't think my 10-year old son is too young to begin considering these things in our father-son outings. Each chapter includes a biblical reference for deeper thought. Because good advice should have a foundation, and I believe it does. This book is filled with practicals on how to treat (and attract) women, as well as advice on surviving a zombie apocalypse. Laugh now, but every boy scout knows it's better to be prepared. Jonathan also offers deeper advice, such as the wisdom in planning ahead, making courageous decisions that require honesty and how to approach building your character. Good quality stuff from start to finish.

Perfect answer for concerns of 15 yr old teen. Written in a way they want to check out. It touched subjects they want and need to know the truth. A prayer answered for me. Thank you!
Trust me, they'll read this one.
Definately a book you won't regret buying. Lots of catchy titles to get your sons attention, ("God wants you to see a naked woman") that are quickly put in moral perspective, valuable life lessons delivered in a super easy to read format.

A modern day book of Proverbs
Like many youth ministry books I've read, the title may show the book is intended for teen guys, but the content contains a depth of thought that it easily speaks into the lives of adults as well. The Guy's Guide to God, Girls, and the Phone in Your Pocket is full of bite size bits of wisdom that had me nodding my head in agreement constantly with things that I believe need to be said, and with things that convicted my soul. It will be a book I keep with me for my personal use, for ministry use as a pastor, and certainly for use as my own three sons grow up. The book is written in easy to understand terms that can translate across many age groups, but filled with pop culture references that will certainly resonate with the audience of teen boys it is intended for. Jonathan speaks a number of hard truths that leave no room for misunderstanding the message he's trying to get across. Where some books will speak of learning "respect" or "dealing with sexual sin" he goes the step further to explain what respect or lust really are and what they look like in life. It is more than just a list of do's and do not's though, and steps into the midst of seeking to have hearts and life patterns that strive to be Christ-like. I'm glad I heard about this book online as I'm sure it will prove as valuable in my ministry as it is proving in my own life.

Great advice for teen boys! Highly recommend!!
I absolutely loved this book! As a single mom of 2 teenage boys, this book hits all the "hot" topics that would speak to my boys. I appreciate Jonathan's willingness to be completely open and honest and include even the most sensitive topics, like girls, porn, lust, etc. These are all things I talk to my boys about, but coming from a mans perspective it is even more powerful. For those of us who are single moms, we need all the male help we can get. This book is like getting advice from an older, wiser, cool guy friend! Thanks Jonathan for daring to be so real in this book.

Mom & Teen approved !!!
Bought a copy each for both young teen sons. They use the book and have said it is helpful. It makes their life a bit easier to go to this book. I read a copy before giving it to them. As a mother of all boys I was pleased. Our family is open with discussion and answering questions with out judgement but all teens need some space at times this books helps with things they may not always feel like talking about.
What a great and relevant book
What a great and relevant book! I was searching for a birthday present for a student in my churches youth group when I stumble on this... I took a glance through and I can say that the author has accomplished the task of growing into a well rounded, spiritually founded man... Without shoving the "christianese" nonsense down the throat of the reader. Nicely done!
One Major Problem ...
I have one MAJOR problem with this book - it was written at at time when my son is only 18 months old and I want him to read it NOW! So I guess that means I also have one MAJOR win with this book ... IT WAS WRITTEN! The good news for me is that I have read it and intend to communicate much of this truth to him as he develops. It is so difficult to find a book, written for guys, that is not embarrassing to give to guys (or anyone for that matter). I know this may be hard to believe but some books are just difficult to read, or goofy (and I don't mean in a positive way) or just plain dumb. This makes it very hard to give them to anyone because you are, in a sense, putting your own relationship and credibility on the line to do so. I am blessed to work with youth on a daily basis and I WILL be recommending this book to every young man that I know for some time to come, in fact I will be going further and simply putting a copy in their hands asking them to read it along with me ... it is what all guys need to hear written in a way that we are able to receive it. Funny, witty, straight up, raw, and often times very blunt - but not in a way that makes anyone want to run away, rather in a way that makes us sit up and take note. Jonathan's writing style keeps attention - it is genuine, so readers know that he cares - ENOUGH to say the hard stuff, enough to say the awkward stuff, and enough to say the funny stuff as well - see "Don't text and drive until you've learn to juggle straight razors nude" and "learn to recognize Ms Hyde" for examples of this. I must confess, reading this book made me feel the same as when I read through much of the book of Proverbs - I'm not saying this book is scripture - I'm saying that it comes across simply as advice from a father to a son - just as much of proverbs does. Heed the advice, live it, apply it ... And if/when you have a son, share it with him! I will be looking for an updated version of this book in about 11 - 12 years to give to my son, but in the meantime I will be directing many to the "Guy's Guide to God, Girls and the Phone in Your Pocket". I do not give 5 star reviews often - alright, ever ... but this one gets it. Thanks for the honest, captivating, and needed writing!
Great book for teenage boys but some very adult situations ...
Great book for teenage boys but some very adult situations mentioned within the book which I believe is still a little too much for my 14-year old but otherwise a very nice purchase in a tough world for teens. The excerpts are short which is perfect for teenage boys. To the point but not long and drawn out.

Another useful book from Jonathan
There seems to be a lot of books available for girls out there and not many for young men. I'm sure it has to do with the fact that girls are more apt to purchase and actually read a book compared with boys. Thanks Jonathan for ignoring that and producing something that I think a teenage boy would read. It's short (boys like short books). It's funny and covers an enormous amount of material that is relevant to all teenage males. As I read the book a number of things kept coming to mind. First, I was wishing I could unscrew the lid off of every teenage boy's brain I knew and dump the entire contents of this book in it. The results would be amazing. We'd have young men that had good manners, treated themselves and everyone else with respect, smelled better and most importantly made decisions to follow Jesus daily. If only it were that easy! Secondly, if only there had been such a helpful book when my son was a teenager. Third, the advice in this book is good for everyone including me! Unfortunately, like so many good books, getting the knowledge from the book to the teenager might be a little difficult. Kind of like the old adage about " bringing a horse to water". When I recommend this book to others I will suggest that they buy two. One for the student and one for their father, grandparent, uncle or mentor. This book would be a valuable tool for any teenager that wants to become the young man that God intends him to be. Brian Saunders Director of Youth Ministries, Highland United Methodist Church
Homerun
Only gave it 4 stars because I didn't read through all of it. I gave it as a gift to a 14 year old. The sections I reviewed were very good. Always difficult to buy something that a teen won't think is "corny" but has a good message. I think I hit I a homerun with this one. He started reading it right away.
Great read for youth, parents and small group leaders
Thank you for writing a a book that is relavant to a young guys life (though I can see gals reading certain chapters too). I have searched for a book that would fit for middle school to high school transitions as well as entering college, this is a great fit. The tips are well presented and not offending, I especially like the scripture connections. I can see this being a great book for small groups, the questions in each chapter are a guide for the leader and help get youth to share and open up. This past week, while reading the book, I met with two different college age young men and this book was a guide to address a couple issues, thank you. I enjoy resources that have a real life application. I look forward to shaing this book with my own son someday as well as other youth in our faith community.
