Skyrim bible
Oh. My. Word. This is big...I mean this is REALLY big! I know you've heard that in the other reviews, but really! I just measured this so you don't have to imagine it, and the book by the numbers (so to speak, ha ha) is: 11"H x 8.5"W x 1.15/16" thick! (I think I mixed my methods there at the end, but the numbers are right). It is also *quite* heavy. However, for a game this enormous- this profound- you really can't get by with less... well, I can't. Everything you could possibly want or need to know is here. Every class description, leveling technique, race modifier, monsters' strengths and abilities(!), quests (major, minor and everything in between), maps of everything and everywhere-*seriously- tips on gameplay, style, pros/cons of different combinations of character configurations, and they also encourage 'just playing' but if you want or need advice, info, tips, etc, it's *all* in there! And don't forget the sharp poster/maps for your walls (or wherever)! Since I am new to Skyrim or Elder Scrolls entirely, there's likely nothing at all I could possibly say about that aspect to a veteran player. However, because I *am that "raw" of a player, maybe this next bit carries some weight with other new players... at least that's my hope (to be helpful somehow to a newbie like me considering whether or not to buy this big, seemingly pricey -but not really- book). Like the game, this book allows you to just dip your toes or dive right in. Your choice. I appreciate that. I also began to feel like maybe I needed to study before playing! (ha ha) But then I realized that if I used it to understand the backstory and character choices and then sort of just read it as I liked 'out of game' and also as a reference for in-game, it works excellently that way too. Matter of fact, I have already found that I enjoy reading it just like a "book" book, too. Of course, you can still just use it as a straight-up reference or guide, too. It's ALL up to you, like all things TES. Now, a quick word about backstory: because there's a LOT of in-game politics that are no big thing to all you lucky Tamriel veterans, because you grew as the lore did, probably, but for anyone new coming in this late in the game (and lots are still, a testament to the awesome thing we've got here) it's a lot to work out at first. At least if you like your character to make 'legitimate' decisions based on their internal morals, beliefs and culture (if you are new to this world, believe me, you totally *will feel* things your character does!). Luckily, we have this and it really helps to have it all laid out in front of you (me) in "black & white" (and tons of glossy, gorgeous, color pics). I find this, my "Skyrim bible", so much better for me than online. Which is kinda profound coming from me, I've been gaming for 30ish years (gak!) and have bought exactly 2 guides.Total. Ever. And sure, there's tons (TONS) of info out there and yes, it's free, and much of it is good, but I promise you-this book is *SO worth it. Just to have absolutely everything right at your fingertips in glossy color! This is one of the *best* purchases I have made (minus the game itself! ) in a very long time. Between everything I already mentioned and the beautiful artwork, the perfect "tone of voice" the author uses, the absolute mountain of information this book provides, there is also the fact that between uses it sure looks pretty on the shelf. o.ó Since I got this game and now that I have this guide (the word "guide" is so insufficient for this...I think "Skyrim Bible" works better for me).. since I got my "bible" (and game) I have been the most occupied and involved in something I can see being kinda huge for me for the first time since I got sick. When I play I'm almost glad I became ill, because I "get" to stay home and play all day (when well)! Great incentive to try to be as well as possible. (Besides, in-game, I'm a strong, beautiful, young adventuring warrior!) ~·*·~¤This is a definite "Buy"¤~*·~ =)
Extensive Skyrim Collector's Edition game guide
This Skyrim V game guide comes in the form of a collector's book and is for the Legendary Edition of the game. It is hard cover with over 1000 pages. It is probably one of the most detailed Prima guides ever produced for one of the most played games. If the player has any questions concerning the Skyrim game, the answer is in this book. But don't look for any of the cheat codes that appear on some websites because this book just shows where everything is and how to get there. It also includes maps that can be unfolded and displayed on a wall, but the smaller maps in the book are much more useful for collecting artifacts and solving quests. I bought the game in the close-out section at Target a couple of years ago. I've been hooked ever since. When I ordered this game guide from Amazon in 2015, I was hesitant because of the cost, $84, but it was worth every penny. It is the key to every "rabbit-hole" in Skyrim. Good luck finding one at a reasonable price today. Even the used ones are going for $249 on Amazon.
Helpful and a great collectors item: a must have for those who love Skyrim.
This is one of those books where it is nice to own it in a hardback because it is massive! The pages are slightly thin (thankfully so because the book is huge!) but glossy and jam-packed with an insane amount of info on all things Skyrim. Someone mentioned the cover seemed cheap but it was what I had expected and to be honest, I could care less because its content will get you your money's worth and then some. It expands upon the previous edition to include the expansion packs that are included in the legendary edition which comes out soon or can be purchased online if you own the standard edition. It comes with: -A giant pullout map of locations -- their place on the map and an index to the right so they can be found easily -Poster with the "signatures" of everyone who worked on the game -A card with a code so that you can access an interactive map online -An attached ribbon to keep your place The book itself Is filled with thousands of details and pictures which document every single aspect of the game in order to allow you to get the most out of each quest and build the best character for your play-style. Chapters are organized under the following headers: -TRAINING: Covers character creation, skills per play style, perks, shouting, diseases, vampirism, lycanthropy, alchemy, smithing, enchanting and information about the world and how to interact with it: crime and punishment, horses, books etc. This list is not all-inclusive. -THE INVENTORY: Info regarding inventory categories -THE BESTIARY: Advice, information and pictures of the enemies encountered in the game -QUESTS: includes Main quests, Companions quests, College of Winterhold quests, Theives guild quests, Dark Brotherhood quests, Civil war quests, Daedric quests, other factions quests (Greybeards, blades, bards college, temple quests, etc), side quests, dungeon quests, favors and miscellaneous quests. I should also mention that all radiant quests are included -DAWNGUARD QUESTS: Vampire/character/location overview, main quests, postquest activities, dawnsguard faction quests, vampire faction quests, side quests and regional activities. -DRAGONBORN QUESTS: Overview characters/locations, Dragonborn main quests, Solesteim side quests, regional activties and world interactions. -THE ATLAS OF SKYRIM: Overview of northern lands of Tamriel, Additional locations, Dawnguard services, crafting and collectibles, hold 1: Haafingar, hold 2: Hjaalmarch, hold 3: The pale, Hold 4: Winterhold, hold 5:The Reach, hold 6: Whiterun, hold 7: Eastmarch, hold 8: Falkreath, hold 9: The Rift, Blackreach and other realms, Solshteim: northern mountains and southern ashlands, and Apocrypha. The mapping of these locations is extensive--where everything in a village is located, traps at quest locations, covetable items, etc. -APPENDICES: achievements and Trophies, Traders, Shrines, Unique Weapons, Unique Armor and Items, Skill books, other references, and the language of dragons Hopefully, this has helped provide some insight into what is included in the book. You will not regret buying it!
Amazing Value for the Amount of Included Information!
Talk about a Legendary game guide! This guide is thicker than any of the game guides I have ever owned before, coming in around 1100 pages, and it is certainly massive. This game guide includes anything a collector or someone just looking for help through the game. There is a detailed walk-through of every single quest present in the entire game from the main quest, DLC quests, side quests, faction quests and random encounters. There is detailed tables of every single enemy that is able to be encountered in the entire game, inclusive of the DLC. There is an atlas section, detailing the collectibles and general items that are able to be found at pretty much every significant location in the game (every single fort, mine, cave, tower, Nordic ruins, etc...). The guide comes with a utterly giant perforated map in the rear. It is reversible; One side is of the main game map of Skyrim, with every single game location marked and then a small legend on the side to decipher the code system used to identify those locations, and the other side details all of the DLC areas and their locations as well. It also manages to detail every single obtainable item in the game essentially, from all the weapons of every type, every armor of every type and so on (potions, ingredients, miscellaneous, etc...). It even has special sections detailing all of the unique weapons, armor and so on that you can obtain (things like Froki's Bow, Finn's Flute, Wylandriah's Spoon, Ysgramor's Fork, Wuuthrad, Volundrung, etc...). It also goes through character creation, possible archetypes for character builds to start with or to build off of for your own experience, suggested armor outfits for certain play types and characters. It details all of the races present in the game, their advantages, disadvantages, and brief history of the race. It also includes details of every single skill present in the game and what they will all do and what they would be good for. There is even an index in the rear of the guide for quick searching through the massive book for a certain occurrence of an item or the like. Perhaps one of the coolest things after all of that, is that the guide comes with access to a web-based version of itself, allowing you to essentially view your guide on the go (provided you have an internet connection). I certainly recommend this guide for collectors and game enthusiasts, as well as any of those people who just want a guide for the game, it is very worthwhile with all of the information included and coverage of the DLC.
Should have been printed in two Volumes
I'm giving this book 5 stars even though I have a lot of trouble reading it due to the small type size and non-white low contrasting paper color and non-black ink. It's an adventure reading it. I actually purchased one of those magnifying sheets to try and help read it and that's not that great either. I'd of rather the type size use non-organic very black ink with white paper (non-glossy) and large or giant size letter point size and took up two volumes. The main reason I bought this book was because I was so happy with the Fallout 3 book by the same people, that I am able to read btw. I still give if a 5 star because of the shear volume of info contained within and the look and feel of the book etc. The map graphics, I do need a large magnifying glass to see them and have trouble deciphering them. I actually feel like Indiana Jones going over some poor condition ancient map of a tomb and trying to find stuff etc. This is not a good experience but "work", ie not so fun. Not after the first time where you can write it off as part of the adventure. Ok I'm down grading the book to 4 stars now. The maze maps are so small sometimes they're useless. I rarely use this book or even the Fallout 3 book bc I don't like spoilers and only use them as a last resort or to see if I missed something once I clear an area, so when I do use the book, I do need to find what I'm looking for and don't appreciate having to use a magnifying glass which still isn't that useful due to the tan shaded ink of the lettering....
THE WORLD EATER IN THE LAND OF ALL STRATEGY GUIDES
This strategy guide is, without a shadow of a doubt, the thickest, the heaviest and the most detailed strategy guide the world has ever seen. The original Skyrim guide was already massive with 656 pages of contents jam-packed with details on the papers only the scopes of games like Skyrim can fill. However, the new Legendary Collector's Edition Prima Official Game Guide has, get this, whopping 1120 pages of contents expanded accordingly to the addition of the newly added contents from 3 Official Add-ons Dawnguard, Hearthfire and Dragonborn. The book was delivered for free in very speedy one day by USPS (pre-order special) in the usual Amazon cardboard box. Inside the box, this massive tome was thick, double shrink-wrapped with cardboard slightly bigger than the book itself, giving extra protection from any possible damage collectors would just scream from the top of their heads. The Collector's Edition Guide comes with a free code for access to the bonus eGuide, fully interactive online guide that would normally cost $26, at Prima Games website and nice exclusive 24" panoramic poster showing the entirety of Alduin's Wall and signatures from the members of Bethesda Game Studios. It also has hardcover bound and ribbon bookmarks to give you extra quality. Otherwise the regular edition and the collector's edition are identical in the number of pages and contents, and both comes with a two-sided map of Skyrim. While the quality of the paper used for the original guide was excellent, the quality of the new Legendary Edition Guide is slightly different, has even more glossy and smoother feel, more like Fallout 3 GotY Collector's Edition Guide than how the original collector's edition guide was. The quality of the hardbound covers is on par with the original collector's edition guide, thick and smooth, but I think the book could have used even thicker cover since the book has over 450 extra pages from the original guide. The style, layouts and the contents are identical from the original guide but with the newly added contents from 3 add-ons. The book also has index at the end of the book so you can easily find contents. Not only would Dovahkiin level up all his vital skills at 100 if he acquires this ridiculously massive tome, but he might do just fine if he uses this as shield or even heavy weapon. Some might complain about the steep price tag of $50 ($32 and change at Amazon), but you'll be hard-pressed to find a hardbound book with over 1100 pages of glossy papers that would cost any less, so if you are a huge fan of Skyrim, this book is a nice memorabilia for you to sit back, relax with and reminisce of the journey you have embarked on in the land of Skyrim.
Amazingly Detailed
I'm a lore junky, I grew up in an era where you go out, buy a game and sit in the car for 10-15 minutes in the parking lot to open the game box, go through the inserts and read the manual. However, in a new era where 'print is dead', yet somehow we've still got tons of worthless magazines and tabloid newspapers being circulated on a daily basis; game publishers tout 'Going Green' as a reason for no longer printing actual manuals.(Lets not kid ourselves, they're saving money. Aside from the mere printing costs, they also don't need to have anyone actually DESIGN the manuals; which is ashame, because game manuals are now a lost art; they were truely a way to feel like you're holding an extra layer of the game in your hands depending on how well they were thought out, designed and written; and many 'back in the day' actually held secrets, hints/tips and extra lore that wasn't available in-game). I'm not a fan of strategy guides, I feel like they somewhat cheapen the game; but again I come from an era where a strategy guide had nothing extra in it other than maps and area-by-area, step-by-step how to win plans; which basically made them worthless to me because I wanted to learn and experience the game on my own; not be TOLD how to win. This masterpiece, however, is beautiful. You can ignore all the mission run-throughs and just absorb all the stats for weapons, armors, monsters, etc. I got lost in the crafting section just reading through the bits that I wasn't quite sure of, greeted by very nice pictures and information that made me go "A-ha!'. Lore and history all over in this rather massive tome of knowledge, and it's a well-made one at that. I feel like I could stop a break-in with this, and I'd certainly not want this book to fall off my table and land on the cat. Hard-bound and beautiful, and some people complain that the 'chainlink' print should have been embossed, which would have been cool I feel like it would have suffered abit from wear and tear too easily. If you've got Skyrim, I highly recommend this book.
Outstanding collectors item & Guide
I purchased this guide because I am an avid player/fan of Skyrim and had a real need/want to own this book/guide, but the prices for these out of print versions are either extraordinarily high or they are in very poor shape. Fortunately while browsing amazon I came across this Hard book edition for only 60 bucks and in what the seller described as very good, but in fact what I received was like new and I really couldn't be happier. This guide covers absolute everything you would want to know about Skyrim. I first played the game when it first released in 2011 on the Xbox 360 and thought I had explored every part of the game and beaten everything, but man I was wrong. I recently got back into Skyrim when I purchased Skyrim Special Edition for the Xbox One X and fell right back in love with the game which gave me the need to own this book just for collectors purposes, but upon receiving the book and reading through it I found so many things that I had never seen before or completed. It's amazing that as much time and enjoyment I poured into the original release that I missed so much content. The book itself is nicely bound with a beautiful cover and the pages inside include tons of beautiful art and screen shots from the game. This guide has to be the most absolute comprehensive guide I have ever seen or owned. There is absolutely nothing you cannot find in the 1000 plus pages that cover the main game and all DLC expansions. I cannot recommend this book enough for collectors or enthusiasts of the game. Solid 5 out of 5
If you Like Skyrim, buy this Modern Day Tome!
It's 1,120 pages, each and every page jam packed with information, photos, and even the latest patch (1.9) information. Legendary difficulty tips and tricks, including every single thing in the game. I've used the past couple of days to read through some of it. The poster of Alduin's wall with the signatures of the Bethesda team is a really nice touch. I've also taken the time to use the digital map on Prima's website and it works great (If you have a laptop you can use while playing. Going to and from a Desktop would be silly.) Only SLIGHT downside: I personally have a stretchable book cover I put on as soon as I opened the guide, because as a owner of the original Collector's Guide (665 pages), the Legendary Edition's spine over time will have a hard time not creasing and that of course is due to the 1,120 pages. So be careful and don't open it all the way and smooth it out like a crinkled dollar bill. That will make it worse. Try to keep the guide as closed as possible while being able to read what you need at the same time, otherwise you will push your luck with the spine which is fighting to hold 1,120 pages. Ribbons help ALOT, and the quality of the pages are on par with the original collector's guide. The map included in the back is like a double sided poster, one side Skyrim, other side Solstheim (DragonBorn DLC). Very Helpful. Also @ $32.49 ($17.50 cheaper than anywhere else) you can't argue with this guide, based purely on financial principle. I bought a Giant Print Study Bible that weighed in at 2,200 pages and it was $100 and has similar spine problems. So don't think for a second this is expensive. Bottom Line: If you play Skyrim, you need this guide. Xbox Live Gamertag: Da Don Giovanni
It has it all!
I cannot believe all the data in this book. It is over 1,100 pages and extremely heavy. The book has a detailed walkthrough for every quest in the game, including the vanilla game and the official dawnguard and dragonborn DLC's. You may see a "caution" section listed for a quest; this gives additional insight into the game and strategy for dealing with that particular quest. Each quest is examined in a completely detailed, step-by-step narrative. Objectives and items that you can find are listed, as well. Other sections of the book are: Training - about the races, skills, housing and crafting Inventory - ingredients, armor, weapons, spells and shouts Atlas - This section details every hold as well as Blackreach, Solstheim and Apocrypha. There are maps of the area, including every dungeon, as well as the location of loot. You'll find lore about the area and a listing of the secondary areas within the section. Appendices - Checklists of achievements and trophies, traders, shrines, unique weapons, armor and items, skill books The "language of dragons" pages include dragon:English translation for every dragon word. Word wall phrases are complete with each word and a short note about it's use in the phrase In my book, there was a heavy card stock page that gave me instructions to access a bonus eGuide that includes an interactive world map! In conclusion, I truly feel that there is anything and everything you need to know about Skyrim in this book. This is easily the only reference you will ever need.
