How can we learn to be effective culture warriors?
We live in dangerous times. Not only does violence stalk us in the form of terrorism and crime, but our culture itself is crumbling. Our society tolerates and even praises what would once have been barely spoken of. If we stand up we are branded as intolerant, the term today’s culture considers the inexcusable offense. If we don’t speak up, people won’t know biblical truth. How is a Christian to respond?
Inspired by the story of Daniel in the Old Testament, bestselling author O.S. Hawkins shows how we can engage our broken culture with integrity. Daniel was a young man who “wrote the book” on how to survive in a pagan, permissive, and perverse culture. His value system was challenged at every turn.
Daniel steps off the pages of scripture and into our modern culture today to reveal some timeless principles—a sort of “Daniel Code”—that enable you to not simply exist in our culture but to engage it and survive it as well. You will discover that the same God that ensured Daniel’s victories is here for you today.

The Daniel Code
This has got to be one of the best written books of truth covering Chapters 1 thru 6 I have ever had the pleasure of studying! It will open one’s eyes, mind and heart to the then and now of Daniel’s life. I am excited to go on to another book of O.S.Hawkins’ teaching on the “Codes” to become more enlightened about what lies within his writings. If you are looking for challenging insights in Christian reading that bring new life to a sad world, a curious mind and a place for renewed hope . . . here is where one could begin!

An excellent writer.
A clarifying coverage of the Bible's Book of Daniel, with his explanation of the relevance of what we as Christians ought to consider for what is happening in our culture and direction of our lives now. Highly readable and worthwhile. An excellent writer.
Spot on!
Convicting. Inspiring. Revealing. Relevant. I read this book in one setting, then I reread it immediately. Highly recommend. It is time we get our heads out of the sand and recognize the state of morality in America, but more particularly and the danger of tolerance.
Daniel code of ethics!
This is an amazing book and definitely timely for this day and time! What a wonderful story of Daniel’s life and the life he lived with conviction to serve the living God daily. Oh to be the type of person he was.
Good lessons
I found this book easy to read and very applicable to my life. I definitely see our modern world as similar to Babylon. We Christians had a good thing for years but now we seem to be in minority. I would recommend this to all believers who are unsure how to live as Christians in our world.

Message for Our Time
Truly inspiring for what has happened to our county's culture, I fear we may not have enough of us who live up to the " integrity of Daniel" to change the culture before it's too late, but then God is still in charge.

One book was a bit damaged, I really didn't want to make a deal out of it. I encourage that whoever packs books pays attention. Everyone in my study was awed with the books, except for that one.

Spiritual Ammunition For Christains In Our Times
O.S. Hawkins offer's outstanding advice to sincere Christians on how not to compromise one's faith in a world devoid of moral compass. The Daniel Code provides the tools we sorely need to withstand losing our spiritual goals. It is a spectacular must read. The author begins by reflecting upon the World as it was in the 50's, 60's and 70's when the majority of individuals held God in esteem. Not that long ago, society was kinder and there was a lot less violence. I shed a few tears remembering this gentle time. Times when we didn't lock our doors at night nor worry that our belongings would be stolen. A time when people respected one another and cared about their neighbors. Hawkin's than compares those days to the time we are now living in. The times spoken about in the scripture whereby the good would be called bad and the bad good. It's a very difficult time for Christians but Hawkin's proves we can overcome. He reminds of us of Daniel from scripture and how that he lived during similar times. Daniel never gave up nor did he give he in. Rather Daniel continued to serve the Lord and the Lord was with him. The Daniel Code will encourage the Christian heart. This book is a blessing in so many ways. I am thrilled that I had the opportunity to review this publication for Book Look Bloggers..
Daniel for Today
An interesting comparison between the time of Daniel in captivity and our current world situation. Hawkins provides some very good food for thought when we consider Daniel's response to his situation and how followers of Jesus ought to respond to circumstances in our world. If you feel like culture is going down the drain, this book would be one to read. I bet you would gobble this up and want all of your friends to read it. This is a smaller hardback book that would be a quick read in the winter months or even just to pick up and read a bit at a time during the evening after dinner. I wouldn't say there is anything earth-shattering as far as insights and "how-tos" but it was an enjoyable read and it made me think more about the world around me.
A culture warrior's guide
O.S. Hawkins has become well known for his “code” books, a series of books that deals with different aspects of faith by looking at Biblical examples. The Daniel Code, by O.S. Hawkins “The Daniel Code: Living Out Truth in a Culture That Is Losing Its Way” uses the Biblical example of Daniel to address living faith as a “stranger in a strange land” and actively engaging with those around us. Hawkins draws a somewhat startling, but not unwarranted parallel between the corruption of Daniel’s time and that of our own. I found some of his insights to be spot-on and his drawings from Scripture well done. Hawkins has created an interesting guide to becoming a “culture warrior” in the modern age. Disclaimer: I was provided a free copy of this book. However, all opinions are my own.
A Must-Read Book for Those Seeking to Take Our Country Back
The Daniel Code, by O.S. Hawkins, provides the answer to that question by delving deeply into the book of Daniel. Daniel and his friends, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah- also known as Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-Nego- were captives in Babylon and encountered much of what believers in the U.S. face today. They were thrown into the midst of a pagan, pluralistic culture, and honored God through and through by standing firm in their faith. Indeed, they were viewed so highly in this foreign land that they were eventually given positions of power and influenced kings Nebuchadnezzar and Darius so much with their steadfastness and faithfulness to God that these two unlikely kings came to exalt the living God, themselves. When faced with a fiery furnace and a lion’s den, these godly men chose what would seem to most a death sentence, but to them, the alternative of turning their backs on God was the only real death sentence. Hawkins breaks down their actions into applicable lessons for contemporary Christians living in a nation with far too many parallels to Babylon. Some of the principles explored are: Resistance Persistence Perspective Integrity Daniel didn’t respond to the ungodliness of this culture by kicking, screaming, and protesting. He responded by being an honorable man who unwaveringly stood by his faith and ended up standing out as the only light in a nation of darkness. As a child, I heard the stories of the fiery furnace and the lion’s den countless times. Not once, however, do I ever remember my Sunday School teachers mentioning how these men “practiced what they preached” all throughout their lives and became a beacon to so many others. It’s a shame, really, because these are the sorts of stories we need to hear if we are going to stand against this current culture and take our country back. Encouraging, Challenging
This newly minted devotional builds on the Bible character, Daniel. This black books sports a lovely leather-like covering on its edges and spine. Hawkins begins this book with an Introduction to the book. It describes the challenges that face us and which the the Book of Daniel applies to. This book occurs in six parts. They are meant to grab reader attention and hold it. The author covers four chapters each of the six parts. The author puts thirteen chapters under Part 4. Parts 5 and 6 have five chapters each. Put together, all these chapters equal 25. Then Hawkins provides a Conclusion, a Mission: Dignity Section, a Bibliography, and an author bio. For over 25 years, O.S. Hawkins has served pastorates. Among them are First Baptist Church in Dallas, Texas. He serves as President of Guidestone Financial Resources, which serves 250,000 pastors, church staff members, missionaries, and other nonprofit staffers. He has authored over 30 books. These include The Joshua Code, The Jesus Code, and The James Code. He preaches regularly at conferences, universities, business groups, and churches all over the nation. I found this book a fast and easy read. I was able to use it in my devotions because of its strong emphasis on Scripture. Bible verses precede each chapter. Early on, the author's bias is clear. I would give this book five stars but for what I found on page 22. On that page, the author gives a couple examples of how humanism was starting the U.S. on a cultural decline, as early as 1933. This author compares the proposal of the barbaric practices of abortion and euthanasia with, guess what? He lumps these evils in with what he calls "redistribution of wealth"in the U.S.! That sentence angered me; how can pastors be so opposed to entitlements? I had a pastor who had stated, "I don't think Jesus would have supported Social Security and other entitlements." Since when have "entitlements come to be seen as a moral, Christian issue? I know that the Bible says that people who won't work shouldn't have the right to eat. But I didn't get the sense that the author was talking about that. Because of this I'm not giving this book five stars. Other than Hawkins' obvious conservative bias and failure to speak to social justice issues, I applaud this book. It'll speak powerfully to those who feel that we're in the middle of a "cultural war" and that our religious liberties are at risk. Compared to what our severely persecuted brothers and sisters in Christ suffer all around the world, our lot is pretty good. Our government is flawed because these people we vote for come from us. But our system is better than that of most people in Third World countries. Overall, the tone of this book is encouraging and aptly ends with a Gospel invitation. Good job! I recommend this book for all those who feel "outnumbered" by our politically correct culture that values tolerance above anything else. This includes pastors and all those who identify as "conservative, Evangelical Christians." Any Christian, no matter what stage of spiritual growth, can benefit from this book. This book is great for teenagers to encourage and equip them to stand strong for Jesus amid their temptations. Those who identify as more progressive or liberal may be put off by the conservative bias of this book. Book Review - The Daniel Code by O. S. Hawkins
One of my favorite periods of history is Old Testament history, especially around the time of the exile to Babylon. We know so little about this period, and the next few hundred years until the coming of Christ. It’s an intriguing period of history. It is during this time frame that the events in the books of Ezra, Nehemiah and Esther occurred. And it is during this time frame that Daniel lived and served in Babylon. And Daniel is one of my favorite Old Testament books. O. S. Hawkins has written a brief and easy to read overview of Daniel’s life and legacy called The Daniel Code. In this book, he looks at some of the major events recorded in the first six chapters of Daniel, and shows how they are especially relevant to our own times. The similarities are pretty overwhelming. We live in a culture that has thrown truth out the window. Daniel lived in a very similar culture. Our biggest challenge is how to live lives of truth in such a culture. Daniel faced the same challenge, and he lived a life of integrity in the face of such challenges. He lived and served for a long time, under kings in both the Babylonian and Persian kingdoms. And he stayed faithful to God through several different extreme circumstances. In The Daniel Code, Hawkins shows how we can stand firm on the truth of God’s Word as well, and live lives that stand out in a dark world. He shows how the truth found in Daniel is still relevant, even after two and a half thousand years. This book was easy to read, and yet still contained a challenge for us to live according to the truth of God’s Word in our own lives. I highly recommend that you pick up a copy and read it. You’ll be glad you did. Disclosure of Material Connection: I received this book free from Harper Collins Christian Publishing as part of their BookLook Bloggers review program. The Daniel Code
THE DANIEL CODE Living Out Truth in a Culture That is Losing Its Way By O. S. Hawkins This book is a study of the book of Daniel; the author takes the first six chapters of Daniel and offers a comparison of Daniel’s time and our times. In the introduction he start in the 50’s and comes through the next five decades showing how our country has changed, he calls it Culture Shock. Using the book of Daniel, what Daniel and his friends went through in Babylon, will offer a look into how we can use the information Daniel gives us and stay true to Godin our beliefs. The author talks about changes we have tolerated over the decades, our prideful culture and that we need to show our integrity at these times. We need to be effective culture warrior and stand up for what we believe to be right. By comparing, our culture to Daniel’s time should help us realize that we need to be strong and hold to our beliefs as Daniel and his friends did. The book is easy to read and understand, contains a lot of information and opens a new way to compare our culture to the culture of the Old Testament. A short study but one that will help today’s culture. I received this book free from the publisher through the BookLook Bloggersbook review bloggers program. The Daniel Code: Living out Truth in a Culture That is Losing its Way O.S. Hawkings From the Back of the Book: How can we learn to be effective culture warriors? This book is a nice read, and I easily flew through the first 100 pages without hesitation. It is also a book that is relevant to the shifting cultural opinions of Christians. When I read through this book it resonates with wisdom taken directly from the book of Daniel in the Old Testament. The author, O.S. Hawkins uses scripture to show us a course through our current situation, and does not elaborate from personal experience to the extent of corrupting that wisdom. If I had a complaint, it would be the lack of real world application. It is great to say that we should be persistent or constant, but without real world examples, you are left feeling motivated without a source to act. I understand that it would leave this book feeling like a single-issue topic, or selecting some biblical offenses and elevating them above others, it just would have been nice to see how it is done in the modern context. I enjoyed this book so much, I intend to purchase the other books written by Mr. Hawkins, the Jesus Code, the James Code and the Joshua Code as well as considering some preacher resources he has prepared.
