'I can't think of a finer chef to have written a book on nutrition and diet for athletes' Tom Kerridge
A must-have recipe book designed for cyclists of all levels, written by Alan Murchison - a Michelin-starred chef and champion athlete who now cooks for British Cycling's elite athletes. His easy-to-make and nutritionally balanced meals will help cyclists reach their cycling performance goals - this is flavoursome food to make you go faster.
The Cycling Chef features more than 65 mouth-watering recipes - including breakfasts, salads, main meals, desserts and snacks, as well as vegetarian and vegan dishes - each designed with busy cyclists in mind. They are all quick and easy to prepare, and are made from ingredients that are readily available in any local supermarket.
A good diet won't make a sub-standard cyclist into a world beater, but a poor diet can certainly make a world class or any ambitious cyclist sub-standard. However, an optimised diet, whatever your potential, will help you reach your own personal performance goals.

Nice but not practical.
Not a cookbook for average cyclists. It's for expert cooks. Also, spun to the UK. Not as relevant to the Americas.
Simple and Tasty
Bought this book after reading another cycling cook book and being uninspired. This one however, tried the tuna nicoise recipe and was very impressed. Tasty, easy and healthy. Looking through the other recipes, they all look equally as good and am looking forward to working my way through book. The book itself is also well written with each recipe containing a little background on it and other parts containing more information around general nutrition.
Great cookbook for any health / fitness conscious people, not just cyclists
Full of tasty, healthy and easy to make recipes (not sure what the other review is on about here tbh! No idea what they mean by it being "not relevant to the Americas" either...) - I'm no expert chef and I've really enjoyed making a lot of them. No exaggeration to say it's inspired me to cook 1000% more than I used to! Particularly inspiring for cyclists as it's geared around making pre/post-ride healthy meals and snacks and general healthy eating for training, but any health conscious and active individual will enjoy the recipes.
Gift that keeps giving!
Great gift for my cycling husband that works out pretty well for me!
Waste of money
Ingredients catered to the UK, recipes catered to professional chefs, totally impractical book for the average cyclist. Buy mine used if you are still curious!
It has a lot of helpful information
Great book, loaded with all kinds of very helpful information.
Worth every penny
I've followed Alan's work for a few years now and as a keen cyclist I was struggling with real recipes for someone undertaking a high training load but without the time a pro-cyclist has. I have a few cycling cookbooks but they are either dull as dishwater or tricky recipes with no indication at what part of the training cycle they should be used with. None of these had nutrition figures either so when trying to lose the winter bulk it has been difficult. I've seen Alan's recipes online and knew they were simple, tasty and effective. I've been waiting for this book since October so was very excited when I got it this week. The book is great the imagery is spot on with some real classic cycling images. The recipes are broken down into sections which are easy to understand and the recipes are so simple even a non-cook like me can follow them. All the ingredients look easy to get at the supermarket which has been half the battle in the past. I ride and race my bike a lot, people talk about marginal gains, I will certainly be expecting an improvement in my performance after this. If you are serious about cycling or Tri or simply serious about food this is the book for you 10/10
perfect gift
I have bought this for my cycling obsessed sons, but from what I can see it is most certainly a five star book. In addition to plenty of healthy recipes, the author provides scientific information about what works in the real world and how to get the most out of your food. He clearly has an incredible amount of experience with athletes and it is wonderful to have a book which combines expertise with cooking and the rigours of training. There are beautiful pictures throughout, the paper is good quality and overall I believe this is an excellent gift for the cyclist in your life!
All you need to know
Well, all I can say is this book is awesome, I'm not the Chef in our house but my wife loves it and to date, we have used many of the recipes. The flavours are simply awesome with the added benefit you know you are going to be fuelled for a race or event. The portions tend to be on the big side, but if you are in training then you must fuel properly to get the results. Do yourself a favour and get a copy, no matter what sport you do you will benefit from good nutrition.
Not just for cyclists
The recipes in this book are simple, tasty and healthy. What separates this from the rest is the no-nonsense approach and clearly these recipes have been selected to be everyday go-to food whether your on a bike or not. Well worth a place on your kitchen shelf but you'll find it spends most of its time open.

A great resource for athletes and non athletes.
An amazing resource for anyone, athletes and non athletes alike. Full of healthy, flavoursome, quick and easy recipes which will surely improve anyone’s health, not just cyclists. This book adds another dimension to my already expansive range of healthy recipes.
A Great Cookbook
I’ve cooked several dishes from this great book, each has been extremely well received by the family. I’ve also started making the various bars and “on bike” snacks which have become a staple feature on my weekly team ride because they are so tasty, nutritious and easy to make ... all in all I can’t recommend this book highly enough
Truly important
Some absolutely fantastic food combinations. Truly important not just from an athletic fuelling point of view but from just eating well
Tasty and easy recipes for sporty types
Great recipes with the informative twist of sports nutrition. The only downside is the pages started to fall out within the week which is a shame as it was a Christmas gift
Good quality nutrition advice alongside good quality recipes
Our family enjoys sport and we love to eat well. Bought this for Father’s Day for my cycling obsessed husband from our children, it’s the only ‘cookbook’ we have that he’s read cover to cover! As he is retired and does most of the cooking, he’s impressed and that’s not an easy thing to do!
Great book
Not just a cook book but a great selection of TDF pics, a small history of cycling nutrition, food nutrition insight and a training plan using the meals inside. The meals are great and they don't all have you standing there for ages getting it ready. Well worth every penny

A really interesting and well read book. It is well worth having the book in one hand and then just stalking this guy on Youtube etc, his passion and knowledge shine through and he does not mince his words.
Fantastic recipes, great information.
These recipes are absolutely delicious. For me that is the most important and greatest thing about this book. This goes beautifully with all the information, advice and actual ease of the cooking.
No nonsense nutritious and tasty recipes
I’ve found this book absolutely brilliant as a middle distance triathlete, who is trying to juggle training; working long hours; commuting and eating well! The recipes are delicious; easy to follow and come with great write ups in each chapter. Highly recommend!
Love it!
I'm no performance cyclist but these recipes are so tasty with lots of suggestions on how to adapt to suit your own personal lifestyle. Love it!
Top quality and nutrition on the market
Great recipes, not rocket science at all. Also gives a good description about carbs, proteins etc. When to eat what. Can’t recommend high enough
Really Enjoyed!
There are loads of great ideas in here to tweak and improve all the basics that many cyclists use. Plus many are nice and simple and not super 'fancy'. One you can even make in the back of your car - this one impressed me the most! :) Thanks Alan!
Great recipes!
Great book. Purchased for my partner as a gift as he’s training lots on the bike - he absolutely loves it. Full of great recipes!
Fab book, perfect for cyclists
Fantastic book, very informative and great recipes. Perfect for cyclists and non cyclists
Item damaged
Item arrived damaged. Very poorly packaged.
Love food and being healthy choose this 👍🏻
Great book, love looking through for new recipes to try. Delicious and healthy and designed for me as a cyclist 👌🏻
Brilliant
Brilliant as an active chap and parent of an elite swimmer an outstanding and easy collection of recipes with an explanation of the whys and wherefores. Great to see a well respected chef and athlete busting myths and putting together a great selection in plain English many thanks
Great addition to a cyclists book shelf.
Great recipes for a meat eating cyclist. Vegetarians may feel a little short changed. Practical tips and down to earth meals. Highly recommended.
The perfect book for any athletes who enjoy their food!
Superb book! Alan’s knowledge of flavour and nutrition really shows in this book! Some cracking recipes in there!!
Came well recommended but I wouldn't waste your money
Aimed at cyclists, written by a chef. You can take the chef out of the kitchen but not the kitchen out of the chef. So bad I'm thinking of writing my own useful guide for the average man in the street.
Muffins burgers and other nice stuff
