Fun to read and has a great flow.
Just received this today and absolutely LOVED it!! I’m raising my daughters in the country with farm animals so I hoped I would enjoy it; however, I mainly bought it to show support for the author. I read it for the first time and was pleasantly surprised at how cute and clever it was... by far my favorite children’s book to read at the moment!
Rory did a GREAT job!!! Kids love it!
We were admittedly already fans of Joey and Rory, so when this book came out it was automatic that we would buy it. The book is incredibly cute with excellent illustration. A little tear jerking seeing the family photo on the dresser on one of the pages (Google Joey Feek) but just an absolutely fun and wonderful story that the kids loved and I look forward to reading night after night. Keep them coming Rory!
Who says What?
Children who have dutifully heard and learned to repeat all the standard farm animal sounds will enjoy this mixed up book where everyone wants to be someone else. Spare, flowing text and lighthearted illustrations make this a great one on one book or story time read. It's simple enough for beginning readers to tackle on their own but too much fun not share. At the library where I work I will definitely point this book out to the little boy who loves everything to do with farming. But anyone can enjoy this gentle, comic picture book.
Great book for the little ones adventures
This is a great book I would reccomend it to others. Rorey Feek is a talented writer of childrens books. I hope he writes more in the future. He has a beautiful daughter”Indy” who inspires him to write these stories. Great job Rorey, you are an inspiration to all an keeping your beautiful wife Joey alive in Indy’s life an everyone who knew her an loved her music. She is an Angel in Heaven looking down on her precious Indy an inspiring you as you raise her. Thankyou for allowing everyone to share in your life. May God bless always!
A sweet fun story about animals on the farm
This is Rory’s first children’s book. It’s a fun story about the animals on their farm. Joey & Rory fans already know that Rory is a natural born storyteller. It appears that these last six year telling stories to his young daughter, Indiana, has turned him into an excellent children’s author too. My 10 y.o. granddaughter loves to read this book to our younger grandchildren over & over while they all giggle as they make the animal noises. Such a sweet fun story. Great job, Rory.
4 year old loves this book!
My 4 year old absolutely loves this book!!! If your child is still learning animal sounds you may want to hold off on this book until they are a little older! Fun, silly book where animals make sounds of other farm animals.
Delightful Story and Illustrations
Everything about this great board book is a treat. I enjoy reading and interacting with our now four year old. She has this on her favorites bookshelf and we read it often. Good for toddlers and preschoolers and then when they start learning how to read. A winner in every category. Thank You Rory Feek for sharing even more of your talents.
Wow!
This is a great book--especially for young ones that can't read yet--and even for littles who can. They will find thIs funny and silly at the same time. The cadence is perfect and offers an opportunity to read using various voices of each animal. My granddaughter laughs each time we read it and I take on the character of each one. Pictures are super! This is a keeper! Well done to the author and illustrator!
Adorable and Silly
My toddler loves this book. Between making the sounds and laughing about the animals making the wrong noises, we have a ball reading it. The illustrations are very sweet too. The book is pretty rugged which is nice!
I adore this book!
I bought this book in hardcover, before I saw any soft cover. It’s gorgeous! Beautiful illustrations and great text. I love it and will be giving it to my grandson when he turns three. A child of three can be hard on a hard cover book, so I would recommend a soft cover or board book if available.

Cute story
This book has great illustrations. They are very colorful; great for keeping little one's attention. That being said, I don't feel that the story line has enough "oomph" to make them want to keep reading the book over and over again.
MY FAVORITE BOOK
I ordered this book just because of the author and then when it got here I fell in love with it. I couldn't believe how cheap the board book was. The illustrations are adorable, the rhyme of the story line is catchy and its just a cute book. I ordered another one for a baby shower!
Fun read!
Rory did a great job on this children's book. I've followed his blog and read another book he wrote as well, he keeps you coming back for more! Well written, cutely illustrated too! ** I have purchased another copy for a friend for Christmas, that's how cute we think it is.*
Lot of book for the money
I was so surprised at the size of this book. I bought it for my 5 year old niece. She had her 10 year old brother read it to her. She was very happy with it and I thought the illustrations were cute.
Great read for all ages!
This was a Christmas present for my 14 month old. I didn't think she would take to it until she was older, but it's her favorite book since she received it. The story is cute, and the illustrations are adorable. Most impressive, perhaps, is it done with quality paper, thick and substantial. Has held up to her turning pages, over and over. Really looking forward to more books from this author and illustrator!
Easy to read and express book. Have fun with sounds
My children love this book, they love the fact that each animal do not say their natural sound. They find it hilarious the way I read the book. Kids get very engaged and listen closely for every sound.
My favorite children's book of all time.
Joey and Rory quickly became one of my favorite all-time musical acts, and that's the reason I first purchased this book. However... after reading it the first time, I fell madly in love. I regularly order multiple copies and I always make sure to have some copies on hand to give as gifts. My grandchildren eagerly request me to read this to them each time I see them. This is without question my favorite children's book ever.
Absolutely Love this Book.
I absolutely Love Everything about Joey and Rory fleeks story. I am expecting my first Grand baby and instead of cards we brought books to the baby shower. This book was my Choice and I absolutely Love it.
Creative book with a completely NEW storyline
It's hard to find a children's book that hasn't already been done in some form or fashion. This book has a very creative storyline and adorable illustrations. I also love that it is written in rhyme. It's very catchy. It also teaches children a very subtle lesson... we each have our own unique gifts. Even though, you may not like your own gift - someone out there might wish they had what you do.
Great Read
Sweet book. I loved the art and the simplicity of the story. The reader guesses the outcome, but the predictability is endearing and not at all dull.
Darling book for the kids
Easy to read, and boy kids enjoyed the book. Well respected author.
Good book
My young granddaughter laughed all the way thru the book. She is now reading it to her dog, she is 4
Adorable book
My three year old granddaughter absolutely loves this book, and she is learning the sounds each animal should make as well as the goofy way the animals -- as well as the farmer -- switch sounds. We laugh every time we read it.
Cute
A smaller book size would’ve been easier for my grandson to look at and hold onto. But a Cute story.

My granddaughter loved it. Simple, funny picture book! I own Joey+Rory CDs, followed Rory's blog, cried when Joey passed, read his book "This Life I Live", so it was a no-brainer when I heard he'd written a children's book.

Fun Book
The Cow Said Neigh! A Farm Story (2018) is a children’s board book written by New York Times bestselling author Rory Feek and is illustrated by Bruno Robert. This is a story about a farm full of animals who all want to be like a different animal on the farm. Each animal sees what another animal is doing and says what they’d do if they were that animal and then they make the noise of the animal they are wishing they were like. The book goes from animal to animal across the farm until the farmer himself joins in and says “Moooooo!” The book is fun to read with your child as you get to do all the animal sounds together and laugh at the animals making the “wrong” sounds. The illustrations by Bruno Robert are excellent and they held my daughters attention and imagination. My only criticism of the book is that there is no “moral of the story” or truth to discuss with your child at the end. I was fully expecting the book to land in a place where we affirm how each animal is different and that they don’t have to be like another animal, but the book doesn’t go anywhere. Maybe it was the authors intent to just make a light fun read (which it is), or maybe it is the adult who is responsible to create the moral of the story, but I felt like an opportunity was lost. Overall I would recommend this book. It’s a beautiful children’s book and a fun read that will certainly elicit laughs from younger children as you recreate all the sounds of the animals on the farm.
nice shake-up of children's books that teach animal sounds
The Cow Said Neigh! A Farm Story by Rory Feek, Illustrated by Bruno Robert is a short, easy to read children's picture book with adorable illustrations. The story tells the tale of animals on the farm, each that envies something that another animal has or does, in a "grass is always greener" type way. In response, the animal makes the sound of the animal it envies, and then the next spread shows the envied animal envying a different animal. It begins with a neighing cow, as the title suggests, jealous of the way that the horse runs openly while the cow is in the barn. The un-matched animal sounds rhyme with part of the stanza that describes why they wish they were a different animal. The chain ends with a cat wishing it was the farmer and the farmer being quite startled at hearing a cat say, "hello." Going to the barn, he quickly hears that the cat isn't the only animal making unusual sounds. Though at first perplexed, ultimately the farmer decides the only logical thing to do is play along, ending the book with a "moo!" The illustrations are very well done, In what looks like colored pencil style shadings. The expressions of the animals is the best part--they are so enthusiastic in making their new animal sound that they close their eyes and open their mouth wide to belt it out. Meanwhile the animal who traditionally makes that call is looking on with interest, curiosity, and maybe even a little concern. The animal sounds are big colorful block text that makes it pop-off the page. This book features a dedication page at the beginning for gifting the book. Overall, I think it's a nice shake-up of children's books that teach animal sounds and would probably be quite surprising and funny for children to read/have read to them. I received a copy of this book from the publisher but was not required to post a positive review.
What a great funny Story
The Cow Said Neigh! (picture book) A Farm Story by Rory Feek Reading level : 4-8 years Publication date: October 2, 2018 Publisher: Thomas Nelson 5 ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Omg this was such a cute funny story. The Cow Said Neigh is the story of some peculiar farm animals who wish they were like other animals on the farm. The cow wants to run free like a horse, the sheep wants a snout like a pig, the dog wants to be inside like the cat. Soon the entire farm is in chaos! From a barn window, a cow looks out longingly at a horse cantering in a nearby field: 'If I were a horse, I could run free all day,' the cow muses. Then it tries out its horse persona, letting out 'a big . . . NEIGH!' Each spread follows a similar pattern: an animal thinks another has a better deal and, as a first step toward enjoying that creature's appealing life, lets out its signature call, from quacks to oinks. I read this book to my two granddaughter's who are One & Two . I also read it to my 4 year old daughter. All 3 of them were laughing and making animal sounds. As soon as I finished it they were saying read it again over and over. The illustrations are bright and beautiful. The girls found it hilarious that the animals all say the wrong sounds. With each animal they would make the sound the animal would say then say what sound the animal should make. It was short enough yet long enough to hold their attention. It's 32 pages with a line or two on each page. The author writes in a sing song rhyme type way that is easy to read out loud. I promise you will not be able to read it without laughing. I highly recommend getting this book. Many thanks to the Publisher , the Author , and NetGalley for a ARC copy of this book in exchange for my honest review. I was not required to write a positive review nor was I compensated in any other way. All opinions I have expressed are my own or those of my family. #TheCowSaidNeigh!(pictureBook) #NetGalley
Cute Book About Pretending
This is a large thick board book published by Tommy Nelson. It has 26 pages and is written at about a 2nd grade reading level. Although published by Tommy Nelson, it doesn’t include any spiritual references or text. It is simply just a cute kids fiction book about pretending. This book has nice colorful illustrations and is a fun comical story about farm animals who wish they were like other farm animals. The farm is in chaos. What will the farmer do when he sees and hears all of this? You’ll have to read the book to find out! I love board books and this one felt especially sturdy and was larger than expected when I ordered it, making it even better for little hands. The text and story itself is written in a rhyming form that flows in a really cute manner. My kids enjoyed the book and so did I. It was short enough and funny enough to hold their attention. I would definitely recommend adding it to your board book collection.
Great, silly children's book with a touching back story
The Cow Said Neigh! is a new children's book by Rory Feek. Rory Feek is an accomplished country music writer who has written songs for a whos-who of country music stars, including Clay Walker, Blake Shelton, and Tracy Byrd. Country music fans might also recognize his name from the country and bluegrass duo Joey + Rory. They were were a husband and wife duo who finished third in CMT's "Can You Duet" competition in 2008, and went on to popularity, producing eight studio albums. In February 2014, Joey Martin Feek gave birth to a little girl named Indiana. Only a few months later in May she was diagnosed with terminal cervical cancer. She passed away in March 2016. You can watch a recent appearance on the Rachael Ray show where Rory tells the story and the story of his remarkable wife (in addition to this book, Rory Feek recently released an autobiographical account of their story). What makes the story even more poignant is that little Indy was born with Down Syndrome, and yet you can see how much love this father and daughter share. This children's book came out of that relationship--as Rory Feek found himself reading children's books to his daughter all the time, he decided to write one of his own. And it's good. The rhymes are natural without being simplistic, a reflection of Rory's songwriting skills. The storyline is very humorous. You follow different animals in a barnyard, but instead of your typical "the cow goes moo" or "the pig goes oink", it seems that all the animals want to do their own thing (which might remind you of the little animal in your life). It's a great story to read with a child who's already mastered the basic animal sounds, and who will understand the irony of a horse saying "quack", a duck saying "baa", and a cat saying "hello". SPOILER ALERT: The payoff is that at the end of the book it comes down to the farmer, who takes in all that's just happened in his barnyard and lets out a hearty "Mooooo". I was expecting to see some kind of moral to the story--for example, how everyone should be happy with who they are, how everyone should accept those who are different from them, or so on. But there really wasn't one. I guess if there's some kind of lesson to be gleaned, it's just not to take yourself too seriously, a lesson which a lot of grown-ups could stand to learn in this day and age. Otherwise, I'd enjoy it for what it is, just a silly story that's a whole lot of fun to read with your child. The illustrations by Bruno Robert are funny and colorful. As with most great children's books, there are lot of things to see in the pictures which will keep them engaged. This is definitely one on the short list of books that I'll be reading with my toddler. It stands on its own as a great book, but knowing the back story make it all the more compelling a book to have in my library.
Cute rhyming farm book
Fans of country music may recognize this author— Rory Feek is half of the country duo Joey+Rory! In The Cow Said Neigh!: A Farm Story, his debut children’s book, Feek makes the most of his songwriting skills, as the rhyme and rhythm flow naturally, making this a delight to read aloud. Readers may not be surprised to hear that Feek lives on a farm with his four-year-old daughter… He seems to understand delights of farm life as well as what would make toddlers and preschoolers laugh! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ In The Cow Said Neigh!: A Farm Story, Feek’s words are paired with colorful illustrations by Bruno Robert to tell a “grass is greener” story of animals on a farm. One by one, each animal looks around and identifies something about its life that would be better if it were another animal. The animal sounds get all mixed up, making this a delightful tongue-twisting introduction to onomatopoeia and animal sounds. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Publishers target this book at preschoolers through third graders, but I think younger toddlers through kindergarteners are going to love it! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ NetGalley and the publishers provided me with an e-ARC, in exchange for an honest review.
Cute board book
The book for review is “The Cow said Neigh!(picture book): A Farm Story” by Rory Feek and illustrated by Bruno Robert. This book falls in the genre of juvenile fiction, animals and farm animals. What would do if animals no longer did animal things? There once was a cow who could see a horse. He wanted to be like that horse so he let out a big NEIGH! The horse heard him and looked at the duck. He wanted to be like that duck so he said QUACK! But oh that isn’t where it stops. The duck heard the horse and saw the sheep. Seeing what he liked he let out a huge BAA! This book dives in animals being different from what we would expect of animals by trying to be some other animals. It is full of rhymes and colorful pictures that are beautifully illustrated. This book is fun for all involved as the page are turned. The words are the right level for those just learning how to read. So either they can read it themselves or bond with a parent who will read it for therm. I really enjoyed this book. With it being a picture board book it is very sturdy for a young one to hold and it should hold up pretty good. The rhyming is just right. I have to admit I thoroughly enjoyed this book even at my age. The ending surprised me. I am surprised I was surprised but loved it. This book is a great book to start off with. I normally give these books away in a book exchange program but instead I will be passing this on along to a little boy that I know. He is bound to enjoy it. The Cow Said Neigh! Picture Book A Farm Story By Rory Feek
Book Description From New York Times bestseller Rory Feek, one half of the singing duo Joey+Rory, comes The Cow Said Neigh!, a fun and humorous tale of farm animals who wish they were like the other animals . . . which leads to a farm-full of confusion! This delightful book will be a family favorite for years to come. The Cow Said Neigh! is the story of some peculiar farm animals who wish they were like other animals on the farm. The cow wants to run free like a horse, the sheep wants a snout like a pig, the dog wants to be inside like the cat. Soon the entire farm is in chaos! With silly farm animal sounds, clever rhymes, and adorable art, The Cow Said Neigh! will have kids of all ages laughing out loud as they celebrate the unique strengths in each of us. This delightful picture book is sure to be read time and time again. My Review: The pictures in this book are nice and colorful and writing is in rhyme. The letters on the page are large. But the story is a nonsensical story about a farm where the animals all want to be something else. There is no sense to the story as it ends with the farmer also deciding to be something else. I would not recommend this book and give it a 1 out of 5 stars. A fun book for young readers
For a fun children's board book, take a look at The Cow said Neigh: a farm story by Rory Feek. It's brightly colored pages, illustrated by Bruno Robert, will draw in young readers. Add a few sound effects and this story can make children giggle at its silliness. Whether as adults or children, how many of us wonder what it would be like to have someone else's talents? What if I was a pilot, making trips across the Atlantic? What if I was a scientist, discovering a new sea creature? What if I was a firefighter, helping rescue people from burning buildings? The animals in The Cow said Neigh are asking similar questions. The cow wants to be like the horse, wild and free. But the horse wants to be like the duck who gets to swim all day. And when these thoughts cross their mind? Out comes a sound they don't make; the cow neighs and the horse quacks! What is the farmer to do? Little readers who know what animals are supposed to say will love how mixed up these farm animals become. They will also learn they aren't the only ones who see the grass greener on the other side of the poverbial fence. But by the end of the story, perhaps they will learn another lesson: sometimes we just need to laugh. --- Disclosure of Material Connection: I received this book free from BookLook Bloggers in order to provide an honest review. Book Review
My latest review is of the book, "The Cow Said Neigh! A Farm Story", written by Rory Feek. This review will be short and sweet. I love this delightful book! The illustrations in this book are absolutely beautiful! They are so colorful and pleasing to the eye. Children will be captivated by the pictures, and what child doesn't love to look at animals? I think my favorite thing about the book is how fun it is to read out loud. It is a rhyming book, and the words just roll off your tongue. I am a preschool teacher, and my class would love this book. I actually plan on reading it during our Farm theme week. The story is about a farm full of animals that decide they would rather be different animals. So the cow, thinks the horse has it better and he decides to be a horse too. The end of the story ends up with the Farmer joining in on the fun. Such a silly story! I recommend this book for teachers and parents of young children. Toddler and preschool age children will love this story. Thank you BookLook Bloggers for the free copy of this book (I agreed to write this review in trade).
Charming readaloud
As a children's librarian, I've encountered this theme of farm animals making the wrong noises before. I love this theme. Kids spend so much time imbibing the useless information of farm animal noises that the chance to test their sense of humor with a story about mixed up animals who quack instead of baa is just plain fun. This version is the first I've seen where the animals 'changed their tune' because they wanted to be allowed to act like other animals, which is a nice fresh twist. "There once was a cow in a barn who could see a horse in a field who ran wild and free. 'If I were a horse, I could run free all day.' And the cow opened his mouth and let out a big..." Yes, you guessed it, a neigh, because not only does this book have swell pictures by Bruno Robert, bright and funny, but the text rhymes and the rhythm runs along swiftly. This book could be enjoyed by two and three-year-olds, but it could engage four through six as well if the reader encourages the kids to guess the end rhymes. "Then the farmer smiled. What else could he do but open his mouth and let out a big..." Pause and look up expectantly, see if anyone will shout out a 'MOOO'!!!
Delightful!
The Cow Said Neigh! A Farm Story By Rory Feek I've reviewed previous books by Rory Feek and have truly fallen in love with him and his family and his approach to the world. He is a Christian who operates with LOVE. He has a beautiful outlook on our world and is raising his family very similarly to how JB and I desire to raise our kids. Anything by Rory Feek is a winner in my book and this delightful children's book is no exception. This funny and humorous tale follows farm animals who wish they were other animals ... leading to a farm full of chaos. The duck heard the horse, and he saw the sheep With a big winter coat, two inches deep "If I were a sheep, that would be good." And the duck said "Baa!" as loud as he could. Very fun rhymes and delightful illustrations lead to a light-hearted and simple reminder that the country life is enough for me!
Even if you don't have a child in the home, you might want a copy of this one.
The Cow Says Neigh was written by Rory Feek and Tommy Nelson, the children’s division of Thomas Nelson. Feek is a Grammy winning song writer and has written some fairly popular songs that you may have heard on country radio. He doesn’t stick to writing music though, and already has a couple of other books on the shelf. This is his first endeavor into children’s books. This story starts with a cow who is stuck in the barn and sees a horse out in the field. The cow decides he wants to be a horse too, and instead of his normal, “mooooooo,” he lets out a proud, “NEIGH!” The horse goes on to see a duck and his care free life and soon lets out a quack. The story continues with animal after animal seeing another and having a thought as to what would be better or different if he were that animal instead of who he was. It is certainly a cute book, and children will enjoy the animals making such strange sounds. I know my three year old did. The illustrations are wonderful, and even if your child isn’t old enough to read a book on their own just yet, I am certain that they will enjoy looking at these drawings of the different animals. Even if you don’t have a child in your house, you might want to pick up a copy of this one. It’s too cute to pass up. I received a free copy of this book in exchange for this review.
Great for classrooms and homes!
Was this book earth shattering in children’s literature? No. But it is a fun book that if used as a teaching tool will make a difference in the way kids think and that is the best thing a book can do! Each animal in the book makes the sound of another wishing they could be something else. Not only does this mean that your kids can practice their animal sounds which is always fun, making it a great book for speech therapists to use as well, but it can lead of conversations about wanting what others have. Kids, even the youngest, know what it is like to want what others have. It may be as simple as a toy for them, but by starting to teach them young to appreciate what they have and realize others would like what they already have it can help form their self-esteem later in life. Rory Feek has written a children’s book that will be a great edition to classrooms and homes alike. Thank you NetGalley for providing my children and I with an early copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Cute and funny
This book is absolutely adorable, perfect for children up to about 5 years old. The silliness of this story will have your child laughing in no time, but it has an important message that all kids should learn early, that it's always better to be exactly who you are. The pictures are adorable and very well illustrated. They match the story so well that my younger children are able to follow along with the story simply by looking at the pictures. I grew up on a farm and I want my children to experience that same sense of wonder and joy that I did, even if they live in the city. I love that this story has humor thrown in for a light and fun bedtime story. This is a book my kids will be requesting to be read many times before bed, and it’s so adorable and funny, I don’t even mind. Recommendation: I recommend this book to any parent, grandparent, guardian, or babysitter. This is perfect for those little ones who love animals and stories. *I received an advanced copy of this book from the publisher. A positive review was not required. All opinions are my own.*
Fun on the Farm
The cover first grabbed me. It is fun and inviting. I sat down with my two grands one eight years old and the other three. They were attentive to the story and giggled when the farm animal didn’t say the right sound. The three-year-old says, “Mimi, that’s not what a cow says.” And proceeded to make the correct sound. The eight-year-old smiled big and read along with me Here’s a peek into the story when the cow looks at the horse running, “If I were a horse, I could run free all day.” And the cow opened his mouth and let out a big…Neigh.” I enjoyed the colorful, adorable pictures, the rhythm of the story. The grands laughed again when the cat said “hello” because their cat actually says that. I knew this book was a hit when the three-year-old said, “Mimi, lets read it again.” This is a delightful book I had fun reading to the little ones in my life. The Cow Said Neigh! Wait, what?
The Cow Says Neigh! by Rory Feek is a delightful picture book featuring farm animals that desire something more than what their current lives have to offer. At the start, we find the cow wishing to be able to run free like the horse. Hence the reason it says "neigh". The title alone caught my attention, immediately followed by the cover illustration. I knew this was a book to be enjoyed with my daughter. My initial thought was, will this confuse little ones first learning about these sounds? I doubt it, but for the worrying mom, why not add something like "Well, that's strange. The cow should say 'moo'." That is...if you're really worried about it. Kids are pretty smart and this book is silly enough that they'll get the confusion on the farm and find fun in the story. I chose to review the picture book, but there is also a board book option for those who have little ones with grabby hands. I know the pain of watching my own want to "help" turn the page only to have it rip the first day we read it. Because my daughter is older than the average age for picture books, I'd asked her to summarize the book. She told me about the animals making noises not typical. The book covers all common animals found on the farm: cow, horse, duck, sheep, dog, and cat. When she got to the cat, she started to giggle. Both she and I imagined the cat sounding like Jeff from the Lego movie with his deep voice. What a great book to share with my kid. It's silly, it's cute and the illustrations are beautiful. The rhyming is great and easy enough to late night or wee hour of the morning reads. Trust me, that's really important to a mom (or dad) that's running on only a couple of hours of sleep and desperately wants to go back to bed! However, it won't be so easy to skip pages as each animal leads into the next. Sorry parents, but you're going to have to read the whole book. Take heart! It's only 32 pages with a line or two on each. Even at 2am, that's not bad. All in all, I recommend adding this to any home library. I received a complimentary copy from Booklook Bloggers in exchange for my honest opinion.
Cute and Silly!
Super cute and so fun! A new release by Rory Feek. You know him from Joey and Rory the country music couple. (click on the highlighted area and you can be directed to his website). I have grands that are going to love this book! I love the soft padded feel of this board book. Rhyming. Who doesn't love it! A story of farm animals all intrigued with one another. The cow sees the horse and is inspired by his freedom to run, the horse sees a duck who swims all day, the duck is admiring the sheep's nice warm wool, the sheep is keen on the pig who digs all day, the pig is soon ruffing like the dog, the dog thinks it would be fun to be the cat who is chasing a mouse, the cat is partial to the farmer. The farmer hears the cat say, "Hello", and has to see the animals in the barn for himself. It's there he sees the unexpected and simply smiles at all before him. The illustrations are beautifully done. Inviting and warm. A silly story that will bring a smile. I cannot wait to read this with my grands. Just in time for the coming holidays it would make a great gift for the little ones in your life. There is lots here for the imagination. There's nothing here about faith. If you are searching for a children's book that holds Jesus as the center, this isn't that book. But in reading this fun and silly book it would be easy to talk about God, the animals He created and all the fun we can be thankful for because of His created treasures. Enjoy! I think this is a great keeper. 🐷🐶🐴🐖🐄 This children's book was a gift from Thomas Nelson for sharing my review with you.
A cute story about animals on a farm imitating each other.
Animals see other animals and make their sound. The rhymes are cute and the illustrations are appealing. One example is: The pig heard the sheep, and he looked in the yard. At the dog on the porch who proudly stood guard. ‘If I were a dog, I bet I could be tough.’ And the pig wiggled his tail and let out a…RUFF! I have always been fans of Joey and Rory. This book for Indiana is special. I received an ARC from Thomas Nelson: Children’s through NetGalley. This in no way affects my opinion or rating of this book. I am voluntarily submitting this review and am under no obligation to do so.
Such a cute one
My house is full of books for every age. SO I could not pass up this one by my to favorite people. Rory and Indy have given us this great board book. It is a fun read that kids are going to be wanting read over and over again. The pictures are so much fun and hold children's attention. Get your copy for a great stocking stuffer. 5 star board book. I'm so blessed to share his book with little ones who come visit me. The Mary Reader received this book from the publisher for review. Fun and engaging story
This was a fun book to read to my kids. The pictures were colorful and detailed. I liked the story. It was a little repetitive but that's part of the story. Kids will enjoy this story. When you read a kids story it's important to get their thoughts. I asked my kids what they thought and some questions about the book. Both boys said they enjoyed it. They wanted to know what happened next. They liked how the animals got all mixed up. The pictures added to the story but the story itself was the most interesting. The boys recommend this book. I recommend this book to family and friends. I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book which I received from the publisher. All views expressed are only my honest opinion.
A New Favorite Board Book
Written with a songwriter's skill, this story of animals seeing abilities in each other that they wish to emulate has a cadence that just begs to be read aloud. Along with some of the most adorable barnyard illustrations, this is a story that will have the board book set interacting and joining in with delight as each animal makes the sound of another animal. Even the farmer gets in on the fun! The way in which the text builds the narrative and the repetition of the animals making the wrong sounds adds to the joy of reading together, and the ending with the farmer will have everyone smiling. The illustrations by Bruno Robert are visually pleasing and add to the fun (that cow ornament hanging by the farmer's desk!). Highly recommended for endless rounds of reading to those who enjoy playful animal stories and those who read aloud to them. While appropriately wholesome and published by Tommy Nelson, there is no theological/spiritual message, though an adult reader could prompt a discussion in that vein. Envy and being happy how God made us are the first topics that come to mind, though that is likely to take some of the joyfulness out of reading the text to little ones. This review refers to a finished copy I voluntarily received from booklookbloggers. All opinions expressed are my own.
Could Have Been So Much More
"The Cow Said Neigh!" by Rory Feek was a beautifully illustrated children's book about the farm and animals that want to be something they are not. I feel like this had a great start to it setting up to talk about comparison and could have had an impactful message for kids. Instead, I felt a bit let down. I feel like the message of the book was unclear as there wasn't much of a point besides humor. Very little kids would likely be amused with the story not having much expectations for it, but older kids would definitely be bored and uninterested. I received this eBook free of charge from Thomas Nelson via NetGalley in exchange for a fair and honest review. I did not receive any fiscal compensation from either company for this review and the opinions expressed herein are entirely my own.
Funny book about animals on a farm
Book Review: The Cow Said Neigh! Board Book A Farm Story By Rory Feek This is funny children's book that can be read by parents to their toddlers. It is also a book that can be read by kids in pre-school or elementary school because the text is minimal and the drawings are a lot of fun and cute to look at. The book is about farm animals who wish they could be different animals and it is funny to see how the animals are impersonating other species. The text is good to be read by a toddler or be read aloud to a toddler by an adult. The book is full of opportunities to make funny sounds and engage the kid in making animal sounds. the drawing are cute and the book is well made and sturdy, so it will outlast even the most rambunctious toddler. Disclaimer: I received a free copy of the book in exchange for an honest review. The opinion expressed in this post has not been influenced by any third party.
A Fun Little Farm Story
The preschool set would enjoy this book. The illustrations charm, and have a winsomeness which suit the story. The illustrator said: " While I am picturing a story, I please myself thinking up a funny and colored world with a hint of tenderness." There is a tenderness in the images. Little ones will LOVE looking at the animals and background scenery. Additionally, the rhymes really work in this story. Sometimes you read a children's book with rhyming text and the rhymes are awkward. In this one, they are cute and catchy. It helps that the author is a song writer one supposes. All of the animals are mixed up on this farm - the cow says neigh, the horse says quack, the cat scares the farmer when the cat says hello. Children will like this droll mix-up, and they will like feeling smarter than the book. If you read it to a class of preschoolers, or to your child, they will find the animals very silly. And may correct them, or the narrator. It would be fun to take one of the animals in the story, and write a class story about the animal and illustrate it. It would be great to read if you are doing a unit on the farm.
Great book for small and older children
Adorable little picture book! For me, good stories are a must, but when it comes to a picture book for small children the need for quality illustrations is at least as important - possibly more. This sweet story does not disappoint on either measure! With equal measures of humor, absurdity and meaningful message, the illustrations bring to life the cacophony and confusion that ensues when animals start to believe that their lot would be better if they had another's place in the farm, and they call out in the voice of that other animal. Sure to elicit giggles and cuddles, this heartwarming story also has plenty to talk about. Littlest ones will enjoy the opportunity to get in on the tease and show that they know the animal sounds. Older ones will find ample opportunity to anticipate repeated phrases and identify common sight words. Great book, all around.
Your kids will love it!
I got this book for my youngest daughter for Christmas, and I can't wait to read it to her! This was such a cute book to read, and I know all my children are going to love it! It's full of silliness when the animals decide they want to be like the other animals and start saying the sound of the other animal, like the cow saying neigh! When the farmer wakes up, he's very confused too when he walks into the barn full of animals saying the wrong thing. The illustrations were beautiful! I highly recommend this book, and I know your kids are going to love it! **I received this book free from the publisher in exchange for review. I was not required to write a positive review, and all thoughts and opinions are my own.
A Humorous Story About Farm Animals and their Sounds
4.5 Stars. This picture book is a fun story that will be a real hit with kids who love silly rhyming stories. We start out with a cow who thinks the horse lives in greener pastures, so decides to try on the horse's voice and goes neigh. Then the horse sees a duck, and the duck sees a sheep, and so it continues as we check in on the various animals you'd expect to find on a farm. Of course while reading this with a two year old, she kept making the animal sounds and laughing as each animal made the wrong noise. The playful rhymes follow a good pattern and the illustrations were adorable. I really liked the cartoon like animals and the expressions on their faces. This is a cute story that would be a great one for young children, especially those learning about farms and farm animals. The publisher, Thomas Nelson, generously provided me with a copy of this book upon my request. The rating, ideas and opinions are my own.
