Nice message

We bought this book after our sons enjoyed the two prior books (Good Egg and Bad Seed). Like those books, there is a nice message without being overly idealized. One note: the message can seem a bit off in the pandemic because it suggests getting together with friends instead of video chatting. Although under normal circumstances that message is great, it doesn't work under the current circumstances. The book is well written and illustrated. The message of enjoying everything in moderation is great for younger school aged kids.

In LOVE!

I could not explain my excitment for this book! I pre ordered weeks ago and let me tell you, the wait was SO worth it! I enjoyed every bit of reading this book, especially to my boys who tend to think the tablet or xbox is better than some nice fresh air and a bike ride! Totally witty, totally funny, totally PERFECT!!!! I have every book from this collection and i love it just as much as the other that were aslo, well....perfect! Buy this book! You and your kiddos will love it.

Another great book by this duo!

I absolutely love these authors and this collection. I was so excited when I saw the duo was coming out with another book and preordered it immediately and it did not disappoint. I immediately shared it with my kindergarten class but also my 3rd grade student I mentor and it was enjoyed by all. A great message presented in a clear fun way for kids with a little bit of humor for the adults too!

another hit !!!!

We look forward to the arrival of each and every Jory John book, these wonderful stories always showcases Jory's unique ability to relate with young children in a way that keeps us coming back for more. Not only is eating snacks and playing board games a daily event at our house but a comfortable slouch on the couch ends most days. If Sophia could rename her dog I am sure he would end up being called King Tater! BTW..... tater tots have become a real favorite!

a great one for the littles ones in your life, maybe even teens LOL

Fun children's book about a Couch Potato. Illustrations are charming. Text is simple. Message is accepting and encouraging - how a couch potato might, just might, feel like getting off the comfy cozy couch to... go for a walk outside. WOT. But let's not overdo it, only sometimes. Because the couch is comfy and cozy and that's a nice place to be too. Great book for the 3-8yo in your life. In this time of COVID-19 quarantine, this might be a humorous way to talk to your teen (boys) who are in their hidey-holes playing too many electronic games.

A big hit in our home

This book is a great addition to this collection! We love the other books too, but this one is the current favorite. In the story it teaches life lessons in a fun way. The artwork is so unique and fun! We notice something different every time we read it! This has helped my kids be more aware of their screen time and they limit themselves on their own which is great! These remind me of the "Oh Bean!" Books from the 80's/90's! The quality of the hardbound book is a little on the cheap side, the pages are pretty thin. That's my only negative.

Another quality book by Joey John and Pete Oswald

Another great book by Jory John and Pete Oswald. my kids have been looking forward to this new title for months! A great book about creating balance and gaining a new/different perspective for kids.

Just PRECIOUS! We bought the whole series!!!

My 4 year old little boy absolutely LOVES all the books from this series. We started with Bad Egg and bought the rest after the first time we read it! Highly recommend. Precious illustration and storyline with great life lessons that resonate for little ones and serve as a great reminder for parents too! ♥️

Perfect message for our screen addicted kids!

I love all the books in this series and purchased them for my 2nd grade classroom. I read this one to the kids as we were coming back into school after online school and it was a great. It's about a couch potato that no longer interacts with the world in person but only over screens. That is until one day there is a power outage and he is forced to entertain himself by going outside and reintroducing himself the the wonderful world beyond the screens.

Daughter Loves The Series

We own The Bad Seed The Cool Bean The Good Egg and now The Couch Potato. All the books have such a positive theme and lesson. Definitely worth adding to your child’s library. I enjoy doing the voices for the different characters and their emotions...perfect for that night time story and discussion.

A classic suited for grade school kiddos!

I love this author. We have The Bad Seed and The Good Egg in my Pre-K classroom. This is another great one, but probably better suited to grade school aged children.

Must have

My nephew loves these series of books. The Author is so very clever in how he writes that a 3 year old understands all the lessons! Everyone should have this book and the previous 3 that this author has published

Such a great book!

Both of my kids, 10 and 5, LOVE books by Jory John. They get to unwrap one to two books each night in the month of December, and they were so excited to rip open this book once they saw the corner, they actually ripped all the way through the outside paper covering of the book. Whoops! The most expensive book we have bought for this month, but by far their favorite!

Not as good as the others

Good book but not anywhere as cute and fun as the first two.

Damaged

It was disappointing to receive a new book in such bad condition. This book is so warped that it doesn’t close all the way and the cover is ripped. :-(

My son won’t put this book down!

My seven-year-old loves all of his books I have literally purchased almost all of this authors books. If your child loves these books try the “No David” books as well!

Book is FABuLOUS!

So disappointed this book came STUCK to another in the order with an unidentified sticky substance. Book is fine bust dust jacket is ruined Will not be able to gift

Love these books

My granddaughter loves all these books by Jory John. They are cute with great illustrations and make her laugh. Plus they have a moral to the story. I have recommended them to all my friends that have kids.

Great Book

I am a center director at my local recreation center and literature has always been a huge part of programming. My children LOVE this book! The illustrations are amazing and the story is engaging. I even created a curriculum surrounding to the story for a week of fun. Potato stamps, potato sack races, tasting different types of potatoes, and other activities.

Wonderful message

It’s a nice reminder (or lesson for children) that gadgets can be fun but there’s so much more to do and see in this world. Very cute illustrations too.

love this author

i bought this for a friend so i haven't read it but her kids LOVE this author. i buy everything he writes. Cute pictures and solid messages.

Potatoe-riffic!

My almost 4 year old daughter loves this book so much! She asks for it almost every night for her bedtime story. She saw the other books in the series and we have now purchased them as well! I see this being read for many years to come as the substance is a bit above her understanding and she will continue to understand it as time goes on but she gets the just of the meaning and funny parts

Great addition to the series

Great books. Always a moral, but not preachy. We gave a second set to the school library.

Loved it

Couch Potato had us laughing through the whole book. I loved the message about finding a middle ground and still being comfortable.

Meh...

I really like the Bad Seed and the Good Egg, however this book in the series is definitely much more wordy and my toddler doesn’t yet have the attention span to sit thru a reading. Also story isn’t as good as the aforementioned books.

Potato, Seed & Egg are all devoured by my 7-year old reader

My 7-year old loves this book and the Seed/Egg series, as well

Great Children's Book

I bought this for my 3 year old grandson and he absolutely loved it.

AWESOME Book

Great Book! The Good Egg and The Bad Seed are still my kids favorites! Hope they come out with more like these!

The book jacket came ripped. Other than that it is a great story.

The books in this series are some of my current favorites. I think I will use them in my classroom for years to come!

Not as fun as it sounded

This book was not a cute as I expected.. probably will not be on the repeat list.

It's teaches the children that their is so much to explore than being stuck in the technology.

Keeps up with our life under quarantine

We got a signed copy from Target, which is kind of cool. My daughter and I pretty much love every book written by Jory John. However, this story about couch potato keeps up with our life under quarantine, which is highly emotionally resonant with kids who spend most of their time at home instead of in school. Even for me as an adult, I laughed when I read the first half of the book where it describes couch potato's everyday life at home, curtains closed, receiving packages, sitting on a couch all the time, facing all kinds of electronic screens and so on. I feel I am THE couch potato. Then in the following part, couch potato realizes the importance of getting out of the house and hanging out with friends outside, maybe just for a dog walk. How nice is that! I just love this story, so touching, helping smoothing both kids and grown-ups' emotions in such a hard time. Highly recommended it.
