A truly great mind and great soul revealed.
There is more authentic wisdom contained in this one oversized book than the great majority of us will ever be able to assimilate in a lifetime. Even a lifetime in which an hour a day is spent for decades in its company. Which isn't to say you shouldn't step into the ocean it offers. However much time you spend and whatever parts you read will, I am confident, be a blessing on you and all those you love.. Oswald Chambers was abundantly blessed both with great intellect and great and humble commitment to being God's man. There is perhaps three to four volumes worth of text here; and every sentence of it seems enlightening. That's not an exaggeration. Most of the time I can only make it through a few sentences before I have to pause for several minutes to ruminate on what he's just shared. And while I've spent a lifetime pondering, studying and praying on things of eternal import, I never read Chambers without getting "Wow" moments. Moments in which something is revealed that's profound, potentially life changing, challenging and filled with wisdom... that I've never considered before. The world was multiply blessed that Chambers was married to a stenographer; one who was so aware of his genius and wisdom that she took dictation of every speech, sermon and lecture he ever gave. This book is the outcome of that. But you wouldn't ever believe that any of this was ever given simply to a group of 20 seminary students or whatever. NONE of it is incomplete in thought or contains thinking errors or personal agendas or bias. I simply cannot recommend this book too highly. It is a gift to the world - to all those who wish to go on the lifetime adventure for which it serves as a map. I've given perhaps five copies as gifts (including one to my pastor this Christmas); and every time the person has been incredibly grateful.
This is a big book!
A friend in my Bible study group recommended reading If You Will Ask. I had read some of My Utmost for His Highest, but never finished. I got on my Kindle and started to buy the single book If You Will Ask. As I looked down the list of titles I saw a few others, Studies Sermon on the Mount, Conformed to His Image, If You Ask and since I never owned My Utmost (I had borrowed it from the library) I said I wonder if they have a complete works. I struggled with the price for a few days, then gave in. This is a big work-book. Its over 1,500 pages, its hard cover, heavy, and packed. I can't carry it to work with me so I have to study it at home only. I wish the text was bigger, but I will get a magnifying glass. So far I'm enjoying If You Will Ask.
After my bible, my most valuable resource!
This book is so amazing! Oswald Chambers was a marvelous man of God so very long ago, but his words are completely relevant today. As with God's love, His Word and His commandments, the Godly Wisdom of Mr. Chambers has not changed. Soldiers and students as well as congregations hung on his every word then as many of us do now. Not enough is said about Mrs. Chambers, (Biddy.) She was as Godly and self-sacrificing as her husband, following him every where he went - even to Egypt during WWI. Along with her many other duties, she took shorthand notes of every sermon and class that he taught. She made it her life's work to see every thing he preached and taught put into print and distributed. The result of her allegiance to God and her husband are in the pages of this book. God used these two selfless people to do a great work that has touched and changed many lives over the years. My prayer is that these words live on and continue the work God started with Oswald and Biddy. Thank you, also, to their precious daughter, Kathleen. She was the light of her dad's eye and has helped to see that his work continues. You will not be disappointed with this purchase!
Incredibly pleased that I bought this! Great investment
I don't have much to add, since everyone has done a wonderful job describing the book (size, composition, etc.) and recommending it. However, I want to let anyone considering this book know that this compilation, of Chambers' works, is one of the best purchases I've ever made. Second only to the Bible itself, the words of this man are nothing short of life-changing. Not a fluffy devotional, these 'lectures' (originally to his students) is intended to bring the reader ever closer to the heart of Christ. This book, if cared for properly, could be passed down for years. Buy it. You will find you've made an excellent investment. Update 12/21/15: I wanted to add that I bought a second copy of this (which is textbook size, BTW, in case you hadn't seen that detail) because I found that I read it almost daily and wanted one copy to keep with no marks or highlights, and one for using how I use every other book I own. So glad I did. I purchased some dry highlighters (for thin Bible pages) and they work beautifully here as well. You may be able to use soft reg highlighters (pastels perhaps) but might see bleed through now and again with them, and of course, traditional ink. Still, worth owning two copies of.
Made with extremely CHEAP paper
This book is printed on cheap paper. So cheap that you can read the next page on the side you are reading. They probably did this to enable them to get all the books into one big book. The book is still readable but you have the shadow of the words from the next page on the page you are reading . I would have bought the book anyway because of the content but I would have gladly paid more for better paper or even two volumes on better paper.
The Essence of Christian Living
The Complete Works of Oswald Chambers Discovery House Publishers © 2000 by Oswald Chambers Publications Association, Limited Preface to Review. Sifting through the sands of time, the lives of men and of times and of places and of things are easily lost or forgotten. My own life, that of my family, of my ancestry, are not noticeable or distinct, when contrasted with the span of civilization, and perhaps that is as it should be. From a Christian perspective, if we are content to let the hand of God mold us and the events and circumstances which confront us, it matters not whether we make a noticeable mark in world history. But if during our lives we can have a glimpse of the nature of the eternal, of God, His character, and our relation to him, and make that known to others - then we should take note of the source of this inspiration. Thus, if for no other reason than to learn of God, we ought to read and study The Complete Works of Oswald Chambers. Review. The book is a collection of his sermons and teachings and lectures; as you read these materials, you quickly learn and observe that Chambers was gifted in revealing the nature of God, in a manner unique to his times (post Victorian era, WWI), but eternal in its message. But how were these messages, which Chambers preached, reduced to writing, since the messages were given during a six year span, from 1911 - 1917? At that time, there were no tape recorders or digital voice devices. The answer: a pencil, note pad and Biddy Chambers' shorthand notes. When he taught and preached, Biddy Chambers (Mrs. Oswald Chambers) took shorthand notes of what he said, then later transcribed his lectures and sermons, most of which were transcribed and published after he died. Though he had the message, she had a gift, perhaps a streak of genius, as she compiled the shorter daily devotional, My Utmost for His Highest circa 1928, which was completed about ten years after he died in 1917, through the use of her shorthand notes. Though I had read this daily devotional several times, it was not until I taught a Sunday School class on My Utmost for His Highest that I sought biographical material on Oswald Chambers. After locating and reading the very good biography Abandoned to God, a friend mentioned that Chambers' works had been reduced to a single book, which even included a searchable CD; the computer program (on the CD) uses a book reader, which is a very handy tool, whenever I want to share bits and pieces of his teachings with friends. But let me return to the point I was making: after I read the biography, I learned how the sermons and lectures were transcribed. The Complete Works is a monster-sized book, about 1500 pages. It took me over 3 years to read it. As I worked my way though each large page, I was surprised to learn that Oswald Chambers was not only bright and well read (in fields other than Christianity), he was a master psychologist. His insights into human behavior are profound, and this gift of making our actions transparent is somewhat alarming when contrasted with contemporary ethics, philosophy and psychology of Christianity. In these teachings and sermons, his theology does not repeat itself, for each sermon casts different nuances on Christian living that no one else has reduced to writing (to my knowledge). But permit me to give a sampling of his works, which are rich in his knowledge of God and his theology: Chambers' Basic Beliefs (materials in quotations taken from his message, Disciples Indeed) "The essence of Christianity is a personal relationship to Jesus Christ with any amount of room for its outworking. The appeal of the Gospel is not that it should be preached in order that men might be saved and put right for heaven, but that they might enter into a personal relationship with Jesus Christ here and now. "Discipleship and salvation are two different things: a disciple is one who, realizing the meaning of the Atonement, deliberately gives himself up to Jesus Christ in unspeakable gratitude. The one mark of discipleship is the mastership of Jesus ¬¬-- His right to me from the crown of my head to the sole of my foot. "The one essential element in all our Lord's teaching about discipleship is abandon, no calculation, no trace of self-interest. A disciple is one who not only proclaims God's truth, but one who manifests that he is no longer his own, he has been "bought with a price." "The mark of the saint is the good right things he has the privilege of not doing. There are a hundred and one right and good things which, if you are a disciple of Jesus, you must avoid as you would the devil although there is no devil in them. If our Lord's words in Matthew 5:29-30 were read more often we would have a healthier young manhood and womanhood. "Beware of the people who tell you life is simple. Life is such a mass of complications that no man is safe apart from God. Coming to Jesus does not simplify life, it simplifies my relationship to God. When Jesus Christ is bringing a son to glory , He ignores the work he has done; the work has been allowed as a discipline to perfect his relationship to the Father. The work we do for God is made by Him a means till He has got us to the place where we are willing to be purified and made of worth to Himself. "Overmuch organization in Christian work is always in danger of killing God-born originality; it keeps us conservative, makes our hands feeble. A false artificial flow of progress swamps true devotion to Jesus. Whenever a spiritual movement has been true to Jesus Christ it has brought forth fruit in a hundred and one ways the originator of the movement never dreamed of." Though Oswald Chambers did not mention the phrase "Let God engineer" in the above quotation, this message is a constant theme in his teachings. He believed God was actively at work in our lives, and in some instances, with or without our cooperating faith or help. To me, that is very important. I want God to be at work in our lives. As he stated in The Lord Omnipotent Reigneth, "unless God can alter me, He dare not forgive me." Our job: surrender, then listen and obey. His job: take control of me, my circumstances, my habits which might need adjustment, etc. On Prayer (materials in quotations taken from message "What's the Good of Prayer") One of the surprising comments Chambers made concerns the nature of prayer: he said our perception of prayer is that it is preparation for the work God has given us to do, which is wrong. To him, prayer is the work. He did not regard prayer as easy or normal; but let him say it, not me: "It is not part of the natural life of a man to pray. By "natural" I mean the ordinary, sensible, healthy, worldly-minded life. We hear it said that a man will suffer in his life if he does not pray; I question it. Prayer is an interruption to personal ambition, and no man who is busy has time to pray. What will suffer is the life of God in him, which is nourished not by food but by prayer. If we look on prayer as a means of developing ourselves, there is nothing in it at all, nor do we find that idea of prayer in the Bible. Prayer is other than meditation; it is that which develops the life of God in us. Prayer is the way the life of God is nourished. Our Lord nourished the life of God in Him by prayer; He was continually in contact with His Father. We generally look upon prayer as a means of getting things for ourselves, whereas the Bible idea of prayer is that God's holiness and God's purpose and God's wise order may be brought about, irrespective of who comes or who goes. Our ordinary views of prayer are not found in the New Testament. Prayer is not a question of altering things externally, but of working wonders in a man's disposition. When you pray, things remain the same, but you begin to be different. The same thing when a man falls in love, his circumstances and conditions are the same, but he has a sovereign preference in his heart for another person which transfigures everything. If we have been born from above (rv mg) and Christ is formed in us, instantly we begin to see things differently-- "If any man is in Christ, there is a new creation" (rv mg)." Too often we slip into believing that God is three million miles away from us, that He put the earth in orbit a long time ago, then sat in his Lazy-boy recliner, turned on the television, and started playing video games or began channel surfing. Chambers knew that is simply not the case. It may be difficult to understand that God is at work and that we can communicate with Him, and that He will communicate with us. However, in order to hear from Him, and to begin to learn the nature of God, our job is to pray. The Incarnation (materials in quotations taken from his message, In Thought) There are so many things wrong in the world - wars, famines, disease, broken families, harmful addictions, corruption in government - one might throw in the towel, and simply work out a life style commensurate with his or her personality and circumstances, and blithely finish our life cycle. But that still doesn't resolve the question, what is wrong with the world, and is there anything I might do to fix it? Chambers understood these questions and concerns, and responded as follows: "A fanatic sees God's point of view but not man's. He says God ought not to allow the devil, or war, or sin. We are in the whirlwind of things that are, what is the use of wasting time and saying things ought not to be? They are! In the midst of the problems, what is the way out? The line of solution is not to apply the plaster of a philosophical statement or the principles of teetotalism, or of vegetarianism, but something more fundamental than these, viz., a personal relationship to God and Man as one--Jesus Christ. "Don't make principles your aim, but get rightly related to Me," Jesus Christ says. "The revelation of Christianity is that God, in order to be of use in human affairs, had to become a typical Man. That is the great revelation of Christianity, that God Himself became human; became incarnate in the weakest side of His own creation. The doctrine of the Incarnation is that God did become actual, and that He manifested Himself on the plane of human flesh. He had to take upon Himself "the likeness of sinful flesh." There must be the right alloy. You cannot use pure gold as coin, it is too soft to be serviceable, and the pure gold of the Divine is no good in human affairs; there must be the alloy mixed with it, and the alloy is not sin. Sin, according to the Bible, is something that has no right in human nature at all, it is abnormal and wrong. Human nature is earthly, it is sordid, but it is not bad. The thing in human nature that is bad is the result of a wrong relationship set up between the man God created and the being God created who became the devil, and the wrong relationship whereby a man becomes absolute "boss" over himself is called sin. Sin is a wrong element, an element that has to be dealt with by God in Redemption through man's conscience. "The fanatical person is certain that human beings can live a pure Divine life on earth. But we are not so constituted, we are constituted to live the human life presenced with Divinity on earth, on the ground of Redemption. We are to have the right alloy--God and humanity one, as in our Lord Jesus Christ. That is the miracle of the Redemption when it works actually in human flesh. The way out is to remember that the alloy must be discovered in you and me, viz., the pure Divine working on the basis of my pure human. I may have the most beautiful sentiments in prayer and visions in preaching, but unless I have learned how God can mix the human and the Divine and make them a flesh and blood epistle of His grace, I have missed the point of Jesus Christ's revelation. As you can see, God was a real, vital component in the persona of Oswald Chambers. If you read his biography (which comes with The Complete Works, on the CD), you will learn that Chambers sought the guiding presence of God for several years before he received the infilling of the Holy Spirit (for my Baptist readers who might be alarmed at the thought of being filled by the Holy Spirit, because they might speak in tongues -- be advised that Chambers had no fondness for the gift of tongues). To put his life in order, he first had to submit to the lordship of Jesus Christ (and this happened after he was saved); thereafter, the events of his life changed in a way noticeable to Chambers. Throughout the remainder of his life, he observed the similar transformations in the lives of those who surrender and submitted. He saw that God really did engineer our lives and the attendant events and circumstances. Conclusion. I could quote other comments he made, which are as profound as the ones cited, but that would serve little purpose. You must read this book, then re-read it, to grasp how God is working in your own life. As I conclude this lengthy review, please don't overlook the work of his spouse: it is obvious that Biddy Chambers (Mrs. Oswald Chambers) composed a masterpiece in stitching together 366 topics, from the mass of materials in The Complete Works, as she compiled My Utmost for His Highest (she had no computer, no database, no concordance; just her notes written in shorthand). Though this little devotional is wonderful, it almost pales in comparison with The Complete Works. As I continue to re-read The Complete Works, the focus of my life is sharpened a bit more by the teachings and admonitions of Oswald Chambers. Next to scripture itself, I can recommend no better resource in Christian living, doctrine, psychology, and philosophy, than The Complete Works.
A Treasure House for the Serious Believer
I've been immeasurably blessed by the works and writings of Oswald Chambers for many years. His level of spiritual maturity, insight and understanding of the Word of God and the ability to communicate that as timeless, yet relevant application that fosters godly growth and maturity is sorely absent in our current day of generally sloppy Bible teaching and God manipulating (as if it were possible) preaching. Having all his writings in one volume makes for a great "at your fingertips" resource for the serious student of the Bible both as personal study and devotional material.
The BEST Book I've Every Purchased
I would recommend this to any Pastor, Evangelist, Bible Student, and Christian. I am a 4th year Christian Ministries Student. I purchased this book primarily for "The Utmost" and "If Ye Shall Ask" so I would have some great material to read regarding personal devotional time and prayer. Most compilations I've found have excerpts of books. For instance, I've looked for Tozer compilations and everyone I've found has only excerpts. I wanted the entire book for each selection. I was skeptical when I made this purchase of "the Complete Works of Oswald Chambers." I thought perhaps it would be excerpts only, that it was impossible to have everything there. I was wrong. All of Oswald's work is there, with forewords, introductions, and original publication for each work. It has unprinted material as the description suggested. Plus it comes with a CD with everything in a searchable database. This is the best purchase I've made, and I have a book shelf filled with some of the most well-known books. I have it sitting on my desk and I read it daily. Plus, I have actually purchased a 2nd copy to present to my Pastor for his birthday because this book is a gem that I couldn't keep only for myself. Buy this book-- you won't be disappointed. Yes it is the size of a textbook, but it's because it seriously is complete.
One complaint is that the pages are thin like a bible
Quite extensive and dense. One complaint is that the pages are thin like a bible. Would've preferred a thicker page. But I do enjoy it! You can still use no bleed or bible pens in it.
Legendary Works of a Heart Devoted to Christ Himself!
When I first read "My Utmost for His Highest" (also available online on [...] Oswald Chambers' popular and serious devotional, I was mesmerised by the integrity of his words. All his books were based on all his sermons and only exist thanks to his faithful wife Gertrude Hobbs (Biddy, as Oswald calls her), who transcribed all his sermons. Since then, I was looking for more of his work that were published. I stopped looking when I came across "The Complete Works of Oswald Chambers"! A dream come true - all his works in one single volume. This volume comes with a CD-ROM containing an electronic version of the volume plus other additions such as the King James Version Bible and helpful cross-references. Oswald Chambers was born in Scotland in 1874 and was educated at London's Royal College of Art and the University of Edinburgh. Perhaps it was the fact that he was gifted in the arts, that his decision to move into a preaching ministry that spanned Britain, America and Japan, turned out to be such a legacy for people of today like you and I. When World War I broke out, he left London to become Chaplain to the Allied troops in Egypt in October 1915. His wife Biddy and their 2½ year old daughter, Kathleen, followed in December 1915. "My Utmost for His Highest" was written primarily in that time of war. Oswald died of complications following an operation to remove his appendix in 1917. The telegram which his wife sent simply read: "Oswald, in His presence." As J. I. Packer wrote in ChristianityToday.com, Oswald Chambers, like C. S. Lewis "had a brilliant mind, a stout faith, an uncannily empathetic and perceptive imagination, and a masterful way with words. Each was a teacher by instinct and gift. Each was spiritually honest and down-to-earth to an almost frightening degree. Each was well versed in the Western theological heritage, and in Western philosophy, literature, and history. Each adored the Lord Jesus Christ unstintingly as his Savior and Master. And each had a similar approach to the nitty-gritty of living through a war." Oswald Chambers' works are truly inspirational and soul-piercing. I suggest buying "The Complete Works of Oswald Chambers" not only because of that. Some of his work will NEVER be reprinted ever again! It has been decided that some of the lesser-known individual titles will go out of print including: - Approved Unto God - Bringing Sons to Glory - Daily Thoughts for Disciples - God's Workmanship - He Shall Glorify Me - Highest Good - Making All Things New - Not Knowing Where* - Our Portrait in Genesis* - Place of Help - Shade of His Hand - Shadow of an Agony (*Published in the UK as "Gems from Genesis") That makes this volume about the MOST complete works of Oswald Chambers ever, now and for the future! So buy it. NOW.

So buy it. NOW.
An EXCELLENT collection!
SO thrilled about this release - All Oswald Chambers' writings in one place. It will take me a lifetime to take it all in, but I'm thrilled to have it. His "old english" is difficult to read, at times, but SO worth the effort
A Real Treasure!
This is what I'd grab if my house was on fire---this volume is an absolute treasure and I'm so grateful for it. Sound doctrine and passionate teaching from a great servant of Christ. I find inspiration from these writings daily.
My walk with Christ...
I want to understand the Bible. The words of Oswald Chambers has helped as no other. As I read his word I reference them to the passage in the Bible. It is a joy to see God's words come alive. While Oswald's books are meant for the Clergey, they help this lay person understand.
All-time favorite author.
This is my all-time favorite religious author. He is a profoundly deep thinker. But heads up - the print is small, the book is BIG. That said ... if I were stranded without the internet this is one of the must have books to keep me company.
Complete works of Oswald Chambers
My sisters and I are readers of Oswald Chambers devotionals so when I discovered these books on Amazon, I was delighted. I bought two of them and gave them to my sisters for their birthdays. They were as pleased as I was with my purchase.
Ossie Chambers!
A must for Chambers aficionados - the complete Oswald Chambers library. Transcribed by his wife Biddy, and drawn from his numerous sermons, lectures, and speeches, this monumental book includes more than forty titles from the popular, thought-provoking chaplain, including never- before published notes on Ezekiel, Isaiah, and Jeremiah. Published in a handsome hardbound volume, The Complete Works of Oswald Chambers is packaged with a companion searchable CD-ROM using the Logos software.
Excellent book! Chambers' work is a must-read.
I came to know more about Oswald Chambers and his writings a bit later in life. I would place his level of understanding, wisdom and discernment of God's truth on a level with that of C.S. Lewis. They both have a powerful mastery of the English language and they use that ability to enable a man to better grasp and understand the depth of the truth of God's word. This book is a collection of all of Chambers' work. It is a nice, quality hardback book. If I were interested in Chambers' work, I'd get this book.
A Profound Blessing
It is a joy to have the complete works of this gifted Biblical scholar right at my fingertips. I appreciated learning more about his walk with the Lord and how the depth of his insight developed over the years. I am able to glean encouragement and application with every reading. As suggested by a dear friend, I date the bottom of each selection as I read. It becomes a future reminder of the time I have spent gleaning insight and inspiration from this powerful collection. As was done for me, I delight in recommending this book to you. It is a 'must have' in the library of any individual or family desiring to grow closer to our Lord. This is a wonderful Birthday or Christmas gift to those you love.
like Scripture, the longer you are on your Christian ...
For years I have daily read MY UTMOST FOR HIS HIGHEST which never gets old; like Scripture, the longer you are on your Christian journey the more it speaks to you. This book, the 'Complete Works...' is incredible in its teaching. I don't want to put it down. It is a large and heavy book so not meant for casual use. It is purposeful and powerful.
Every book I've received from Amazon was in perfect condition.
The book was exactly what I wanted. It looked brand new to me. Every book I've received from Amazon was in perfect condition. Anyone who is a Christian and wants the best information available on Biblical understanding on things you never knew were available, this is the most in depth book I've ever read. I have read Oswald Chamber's books daily for many years. For Biblical readers who really want to get down to the nuts and bolts of Biblical understanding, you won't find a better author than Oswald Chambers.
Oswald Chambers Complete Works
Awesome book! Loaded with the most insightful Christian thinking for such a young man (Died in his 40s). I HIGHLY Recommend this book.
Three Stars
writing very small not what I expected
Worth the work
Few christian writers (on earth or in heaven) have as good a grasp on living the christian life as Oswald Chambers. However, what is in this book will fly over the head of any person who is not committed to surrender to God and listening for the Holy Spirit every day. Dig deep - Luke 6:48
Complete content and well organized
This is the most complete work of a noted author that I have ever seen. Beautifully put together. My only comment is the quality of the page is too thin. You can see the type from the back side of the page coming through a bit. And, if you want to highlight something you need to be very gentle and not press too hard on the paper.
Oswald Chambers
I have been a Christian for a very long time. I have had an Oswald Chambers devotional book since 1993 which I adore. I have given these as gifts over and over. When I found The Complete Works of Oswald Chambers, I was thrilled. I spend 2 to 3 hours a day with this book and my Bible. I find it amazing!!
Great book. I wish I had found this book a long time ago.
Perhaps the best book I have read on the scriptures and living a very fulfilled life.
A chance to mature & grow
Besides the things you have already heard, which are true, the CD is awesome (the entire bible, cross references, all of oswald's written works, the way it is set up so you can save your workspace...). I really want to encourage any Christian who wants to grow in their walk with Christ to get this book. Oswald Chambers was a man annointed with the Holy Spirit and the gifts of Paul. This book is not an accessory, it's crucial for every maturing Christian. It will challenge, enlighten, and bring closer to God anyone the Spirit leads to open it's pages. At least do yourself a favor and purchase "My Utmost for His Highest" by Oswald without hesitation, it's ... on Amazon and it's a devotional that will challenge you daily. (I use the word challenge because like Paul, Oswald doesn't always inspire happy feelings, the Spirit was using him to inspire growth in Christ). I don't know what else to say, but buy Oswald as soon as you can...
It's not the book it's Oswald Chambers
Oswald Chambers speaks on a different level than most Christians. If you tire of today's Christian rants and self-centeredness we have a phenomenal source to turn to thanks to Chamber's heirs. Chambers had incredible insight into true Christian living. This book will give you a lifetime of reading and help you grow as a Christian. Originally I had said the CD was OK. But after a few updates, working with technical support and using the program for a couple of years, I am actually quite impressed. I still prefer to read the book (until I get my Kindle!). But I do use the Libronix program often. There's some pretty cool stuff in it. It is a great value.
Oswald Chambers book
This book is filled with words of wisdom from a very godly man. I appreciate his wife preserving his messages. They are a blessing to read. Thanks.
REVIEW OF OSWALD CHAMBERS
If you would like to read about a man who totally gave his life to God, then you will enjoy this book. It is written mostly by his wife who gathered the material from his speeches and devotions that he gave after they were married. Oswald and Biddie (BD from Devoted Disciple) share a completely selfless devotion to God. They were blessed by God, but Oswald was received by God at age 37. Biddie then compiled all his work into this book. It will be worth your time to read it.
Enormous compilation of writings by Oswald Chambers. Great value!
Great book, highly recommend. Enormous compilation of writings by Oswald Chambers. If you like My Utmost for His Highest, then you'll probably enjoy this. Great man of God who had incredible revelation on the Christian life.
Perfect for anyone who loves Oswald Chambers.
I ordered this for my brother who has been using Oswald chambers devotional for years. He was super impressed with this book. It's large and full of great content. The perfect book for anyone who loves oswalds writings.
Deeper Spiritual lifestyle
If you are a person who desires to deepen your understanding of walking in an uncompromising way with God, THIS IS THE BOOK FOR YOU! I am very thankful that his wife was very gifted at shorthand, otherwise, we probably wouldn't have this treasure today. I have read "My Utmost for His Highest" many times. If you want to understand "My Utmost" then you absolutely have to study this book.
Book was as advertised. In great shape.
The author has a tremendous message.
Buy this for every Bible College Student you know.
I wish someone had given me this book when I first felt called to ministry my senior year of high school. This book can help you get ready the right way for ministry. If we are to buy wisdom and not sell it, this book should be at the top of that shopping list. When I read it I feel like Oswald Chambers is mentoring me personally, drawing from his deep experience with God and shooting straight with me. Thank God for Oswald Chambers, and for my dad who gave this to me to read.
this is a wonderful study guide
this is a wonderful study guide. Mr. Chambers' lectures were apparently directed to young people going into the ministry, but, as Christians, shouldn't we all think of ourselves as 'ministers' since Jesus has sent us all out into the world to make Him known?
A Wonderful read, with Uplifting and Spiritual enlightenment
I gave this book the highest rating possible for the content, the rich spiritual enlightenment it provides; and, the contents covers every area of the human experience when growing in knowledge of GOD. My only concern is that some may find the text somewhat small. However, the text is clear and readable; and, easy on the eyes. There is also an added bonus of the CD-ROM. I enjoy this collection very much.

Must Read for Any Serious Christian
This compilation of Chambers' works is stunning to read and take in mentally. He's been gone nearly 100 years but the works he left us are deep, profound and moving. Every time I read from this book I am affected positively by Chambers. My wish is that more were aware of him and read what he had to say.
If you want an in-depth study of God's word, ...
If you want an in-depth study of God's word, definitely a must-read. If you are looking to dig deeper, dare to draw closer to examine the truths of God's word, definitely a must-have. I found out I am reading it a lot slower than I anticipated. It's packed with treasures. Loving it.
Best devotional, Utmost for His highest
Best devotional, Utmost for His highest, it will test, strengthen, build and expose your weakness in your Christian walk, praise God for this devotional!!! Lol warning must be ready for growth Christ Jesus
a must read
I received my first My Utmost for His Highest from a very close friend in 1978. I wore that one out and 2 more after that. They seemed to say just the right thing that I always needed to hear. Then I read Oswald Chambers: Abandoned to God, Oswald's biography; and was even more sure than ever that he and his wife were truly devoted to doing what God led them to do thoughout their lives together and separately. So I was excited to see the Complete Works of Oswald Chambers at Amazon. I am 74 years old and plan to spend the rest of my days with it right beside my bed. You can read his sermons to the college students or one of his complete books depending on how much time you have. Next to the Bible, it is one of my favorites.
Five Stars
Awesome book. A must read for anyone serious about their relationship with God.
Complete Works of Oswald Chambers + CD
Oswald Chambers writes at a level way beyond most Christian authors. He can get more into a paragraph than many popular writers can get into a chapter... or even a whole book. If you just buy the volume for "My Utmost for His Highest" and then go through it for a year, you will receive a return on your investment that far... far exceeds the cost. The searchable CD makes it worth triple the price. The print quality is also excellent...
Great deep book
This man is amazing in all his insights. He died about 100 years ago at a young age of 40+. It is amazing at the depth of presentation. I learned this via my wife's through reading AND re-reading this large book . This is not a book for the casual or surface reader. Be ready to be surprised and challenged by his thinking and views.
Brilliant
Oswald Chambers is probably one of the best biblical scollars there has ever been. His insight into what is said in the bible is excelent. I am delighted that there was a reprint, so I could buy this book. The price is right. The old printed edition is out of my reach dollar wise.
A relevent commentary for today!
I already owned this book and knew what a goldmine it was for anyone interested in the truths of the Bible. So, I purchased this as a gift for a young man entering seminary. He was thrilled as he needed several commentaries. These writings are amazing and as relevent today as the day they were written. Oswald Chambers, in my opinion, would have been and apostle in the days of Christ.
Powerful book..Powerful man...
This book includes so many of Mr. Chamber's works and thoughts about the Word. Lectures from when he was teaching are included. He is so full of insight as well as love for his Savior. You can use this as a devotional or a bible study help. It is jammed packed and about 1.5 inches thick! Enjoy it! It is a meaty feast for hungry hearts!
Thought-provoking read!!
Excellent book to challenge you in your life as a Christian.
Spiritual Food for Growth
I love his 'My Utmost for His Highest'. He had a very intimate walk with God. His writing is meaty, makes one think about what you have just read. Read a little and digest it, read a little more and digest it and so on. Tried the cd-rom and my son said he would walk me through the process to get it to work.
Growing In God!!
Great compilation of Oswanld Chambers works. Enjoying it immensely.
Should be Required reading for every one
This is an amazing book. Still relevant for today. I love his writing. He makes you think and takes you to the depths of your heart. A great "tag" for this book would be "living" not just "christian living". My Utmost for His Highest (my favorite devotional) and Biblical Psychology are absolutely priceless and life changing. I am working on the other books in the collection.

Best bargain I have found if you are a fan of Chambers! I haven't read all of these, of course, but am going forward at a pace that allows me to relish his marvelous writings.
Great book, fast service
Amazing how fast the book was in my posession< I ordered thursday afternoon, and on monday afternoon UPS dropped the pakkage on my terras tabel. A bit risky, but it didn't rain anyway. I read My utmost for His highest over and over and sometimes found some other quotes and texts of Chambers. But now I have his complete works in one book of over 1800 pages. It reads like an encyclopedia of the bible, and it will probably be a book that lasts till in my old days. Strongly advised for every Christian who reallyu wants to go deeper in the thoughts of Man of God. It can be an inspiration to grow in faith. It's worth the price and thank you to Amazon for it's great organisation. I was prepared to wait a while for the book, but this came as a connonball from the US to Belgium in no time.
Wonderful book
You cannot open a page and not be inspired by the words you read. This is a wonderful book and should be in everyone's library. There is so much in it that sometimes I can hardly get through a sentence without contemplating on it. I heartily recommend it.
Good quality book....
This is an excellent resource tool for biblical studies or learning/knowledge. It's worth having in your library, even if it's for referencing purposes. It came neatly packaged and did not possess any damage(s) to it. I would recommend this product
Happy mom...:)
It came in good timing and since it was a gift for my mom who really wanted this book, I'm glad that she was happy with it. She's happy, so that makes me happy...the only thing is that it said that it would come with a CD and it never did. :(

Just A Blessing For All
If you are a Christian, and you need a ref book, this is the one for you. FULL OF LECTURES AND Biblical insights that we modern Christians fail to see. Oswald Chambers Was/Is A Man After Gods Own Heart.
Great reference book
David McCasland has compiled all of Chambers' works into a single book, excellent for reference.
Beware the Scotsman
For Christians searching for a deeper life, a truer understanding of faith, this is it. Oswald Chambers has been described as an example of a life sold out to the Cross of Christ. I have been reading Chambers for over a year now and have had my heart pricked repeatedly by the Truth proclaimed by this man. I use the CD-ROM version (as a Libronix user) and it's great - I have him wherever I travel with my laptop.

This work will set your heart on fire with the love of the Holy Spirit, and will inspire you to have personal, passionate devotion to the Lord Jesus Christ. Should be in the library of every lover of Christ!
Good condition? It is in excellent condition. It is becoming one of my prized reference books on Spiritual Psychology.
Most economic complete book that was suggested in my Psychology class material. I started reading it as soon as it came!
I love this piece
Even though I am a Calvinist in my world and God view, I love Chambers love for Jesus Christ. So much of Chambers works come from an Arminian view, still His passion for being sold out and into Jesus Christ is amazing. This book is about 1300 pages and I am plowing through it at 5-10 pages a day, taking in some of Chambers breathtaking view(s) of God and Jesus and how they relate to man temporally and eternally. I am 66 years old and not much time left. Not sure yet if I will have Heaven as my home when I die, I am prayerfully praying as I go through this work for all the illumination I can get. It is verbose at times but when I hit a vein of Gold it is so worth it.
Down-To-Earth Christian devitional
All od Chambers'works in one book. Sensible, straight-forward and realistic Christianity, no punches pulled.
Changed a life
Selected this for a very close friend who is academically inclined. He needed something deeper to spur his 'stroll' with God. Now, after this and a few other books, studies and regular church attendance, he spends 3 or more hours per day studying with God in a powerful way. I am very happy I purchased this fine book.

This book is the most ESSENTIAL tool I have ever found in what it means to be a "real" Christian in our day, or any other day on this planet. There is not a better commentary on the Word of God anywhere or help to become "Christ like" in our everyday walk.
Great man of God!
This is an amazing collection of books by one of the most insightful men of God. If your looking for an easy read, you may not want this collection. If your looking for something that has depth and meaning, then you will want to get this book. Highly recommended for those who are looking for more then just fluff.
Needs to be in every Christian's library
This has been one of the best investments I ever made! It has been humbling, challenging, and most uplifting in the seasons of life I have encountered!
2nd Best Book
Next to the Holy Bible this is the greatest collection of religious writings ever. An absolute must for any serious Christian.
Priceless!
I haven't yet read all of the writings contained in this album of sermons, but most of the ones I have read are deeply profound and inspiring.
Awesome, Awesome, Awesome
Awesome, Awesome, Awesome, i have fallen in love, i mean literally fallen in love with Oswald Chamber's teachings. His teachings has given me a deeper understanding of God and of myself, and my responsibilities as a true child of GOD. I am new to Oswald's teaching, as i started searching for his material and saw Complete Works i had to have have it.
A Remarkable Man Of Faith
With a very high sense of Godliness, Oswald Chambers challenges the mediocrity of average faith, daring the believer to climb to new heights in the knowledge of God and to live, indeed, in the highest place.
Simply awesome.
Next to the Bible, the most incredible book you'll read.

My husband LOVES this book and uses it everyday while he studies.
so I will just say it is one of the best I have ever read
An exhaustive review would not do it justice... so I will just say it is one of the best I have ever read.

I sent this book as a gift to a friend in a foreign country. It arrived very quickly (about 3 weeks) and in good shape. They were happy - I'm happy! Good job, well done Amazon!

Powerful and Liberating Work
Unquestionably the most inspiring book, apart from Bible, I have ever studied. You don't "read" this book; you "study" it. It is the most powerful and liberating work I have in my personal library. Chambers was an inspired and gifted man truly touched by the Holy Spirit. If your ready to mature in your walk with Christ, and ready to launch out into "deeper water" ....this is your book.

Oswald Chambers book and CD - awesome content
The product was new and received it as promised. CD was a problem. Could not just insert and use. Had to call company on CD and could not get an answer. Googled the book and cd and found the Logos company software and called them several times to get the necessary codes etc to be allowed to use cd. Amazon needs to send code with book. Other than that Book content and CD are awesome.

The book is great. The CD-rom was missing.
This was a used book, adversised with an accompaning CD-Rom. Whe it arrived it had no CD-Rom. This was a disappointment, however Amazon refunded $ 10.00. Oswarld Chambers is outstanding. I would recommend the book to anyone interested is discovering true Christianity.
Absolutely Amazing
I've only had this book an hour or so, and am totally thrilled. I was only familiar with Chambers via "My Utmost for His Highest", and hadn't even read all of that. I can't recommend this book highly enough. GET IT! Be warned, however, of two things: (1) Don't think of all of his writings as purely devotional, like the mushy feel-good stuff coming out from so many authors now. There is real meat here. (2) Chambers was not afraid to use words of more than one syllable! This book can be an intellectual challenge, as well as a spiritual one. I'll end with two quotes on prayer(BTW, the included CD makes it very easy to copy and paste passages like this). I love his phrase "worship of prayer", as opposed to "prayer of worship": From page 306: How many cease from praying by indiscernible, unconscious ways! They are not those who because of intellectual barriers have determined on prayerlessness, or who have abandoned praying in favour of a cherished sin, but those who have ceased praying by more indecipherable ways. The life of God in us is manifested by spiritual concentration, not by pious self-consciousness; pious self-consciousness produces the worship of prayer, which is anti-Christian. This unscriptural piety fixes itself on the actual incidents in such verses as Mark 1:35-"And in the morning, rising up a great while before day, He went out, and departed into a solitary place, and there prayed," and disproportionately emphasises "rising up a great while before day," implying that if this actual early rising were imitated it would produce Christ-likeness in us; whereas our Lord prayed because He was concentrated on God; that is, He did not worship prayer. And from page 307: There is a quietism of devotional self-indulgence which takes the place spiritually that loafing does socially. It is easy to call it meditative prayer, but meditation is only attained in actual life by the strenuous discipline of brooding in the centre of a subject.
Chambers' books in one volume + bonus material + CD-ROM !!!
"My Utmost for His Highest" truly is one of the best-selling christian devotional books of all time. Yet many who have personally benefited from that popular daily devotional have yet to be introduced to the rest of Oswald Chambers' (1874-1917) work. Mr. Chambers' incisive teaching and invigorating style can be discovered on the pages of such books as "Biblical Psychology", "The Psychology of Redemption", "God's Workmanship", "If Ye Shall Ask", "So Send I You", and "Studies in the Sermon on the Mount" - more than 40 titles in all! Now for the first time readers can own the entire Oswald Chambers' library in one volume, plus a CD-ROM version of the print edition (!). Also included in the CD-ROM is David McCasland's inspiring biography, "Oswald Chambers: Abandoned to God" (McCasland has also written a biography of Scottish missionary and Olympic champion Eric Liddell, known from "Chariots of Fire"). The Complete Works offer these exciting new features: - Fully searchable CD-ROM with the complete text - Helpful new footnotes by biographer McCasland - Previously unpublished material on Isaiah, Jeremiah, and Ezekiel - General index of people, places, and terms - Historical background for each book The CD-ROM features: - The Complete Works - Links to all footnotes and Scripture references - Complete text of the Authorized (King James) Version of the Scriptures - Full text of the biography "Oswald Chambers: Abandoned to God" - Photos from "Abandoned to God" - Video interview with Kathleen Chambers, only child of Oswald and Biddy Chambers Few individuals have had the spiritual insight into the Person of Jesus Christ as Oswald Chambers, and fewer still have been able to make its application so inescapable. If others knew something about Christ from hearsay, Chambers knew Christ on a daily basis, personally in a spiritual way. An invaluable volume of spiriual wisdom, worth every cent of its price. A must buy.
This man has fangs!
Oswald Chambers is one of this age's greatest Protestant preachers. He has keen insight into the human condition; consequently, his is able to call all our bluffs. His is also one of the greatest Christ-centered preachers ever. These two axes are the reason why this man, though he was an active preacher for only a decade, has such sticking power. Chambers was an active preacher for only one decade. He died of appendicitis at age in Cairo, due to complications with his appendicitis. Providentially, his wife was a trained stenographer, and she kept copious notes of her husband's sermons and lectures. This book preserves these great sermons for all posterity. He had a very broad mind. He has studies on the Sermon on the Mount, Ezekiel, Jeremiah, Lamentations, and other topics. This book also has his book "Baffled to Fight Better," his very substantive and piercing study on the book of Job, and, of course, his daily devotional "My Utmost For His Highest." Also included are "Biblical Psychology," "Christina Disciplines," and "The Shadow of an Agony." To think he did all of this in the short space of ten years. If he had lived, we would place him on the level of A. W. Tozer, C. S. Lewis, and Billy Graham. Even as it is, this book is not merely impressive, but absolutely mind and soul-blowing! Oswald Chambers embarrasses everyone: he did more in ten years than most do in their entire life. The book itself is textbook size, and is printed on thin scripture paper. The font is contemporary and has an impeccable look to it, so it is easy to read. The text is also in double columns, which for some reason always impresses me with importance, probably because the scriptures and Shakespeare are usually in double column format. This also allows for two more margins to write notes and cross-references. The CD is the perfect companion, and compensates for the rather skimpy index, and absence of illustrations. Personally, I believe the perfect index could only be a CD ROM-instant access to everything. In addition to containing the text of the book, it also has the e-text and pictures of "Abandoned to God," David McCasland's biography of Chambers. I give many brownie points and many tips of the hat to the compilers for including the King James Version of the Bible on the CD, which can only help your study of Chambers thoughts and insights into Christ.
"Where is that sixth star?"
So where is the sixth star? Smile... This mans work is extraordinary. I Love Watchman nee and this work relates his work like they were friends. Funny how that same Spirit gig happens huh?. A Holiness man and an author of many inclusions here in this book. I currently have the 1992 version of the "My Utmost For His Highest" book; his most famous, I would love to get his 1935 original however. I don't have 200 bucks tho. The edited version is written by James Reimann. They have renewed the copy rights from 1935,1963, 1979,1980,1982, to 1992. Oswald Chambers lived from 1874-1917 F.Y.I. He references the New King James version. Extraordinary works of faith. I cannot express how valuable these words will become. Truth is timeless! We need it more today than when he originally wrote it. 30+ don't even sweat it!
Highly Recommended if you're serious about your Walk.
I have friends who don't like O.C. because they say they didn't get anything out of /My Utmost for His Highest/. I first got a copy of Utmost when I was a teenager and it was 10 years before I was at the point where I could learn something from it. These Complete Works go above and beyond Utmost both in breadth and depth of study. The Complete Works of Oswald Chambers is an exceptional compilation of notes taken by Mrs. Biddy Chambers as she attended her husband's lectures at the Bible Training College in the early 1900's. Each study shows Chambers' profound insight into human nature (i.e. my nature) and God's purpose for us as redeemed individuals. Woven through each lecture is the essential theme of intimate devotion to Jesus Christ. I bought a 2nd copy and gave it to my dad. Then I got another copy for my uncle. Then another for my good friend. $25-30 is well worth the treasure trove of knowledge and insight in this book. Trade the cost of 3 movie passes for something that will benefit you for a lifetime! Obviously, I highly recommend it!
at last, every work Oswald Chambers ever wrote!
If you are a fan of Oswald Chambers, you will definetly welcome his complete works. If you have never read Oswald Chambers, welcome to one of the clearest voices as to the real message of Christ. OC, as his admirers refer to Oswald Chambers, draws you into the heart of Christ without you ever being aware that OC's own words have led you there. In every word that he writes, his only aim is to connect you with Christ, yet he does so in the most cogent and clear reasoning. Although I already have most of his works, it was great to pick up a few I have never been able to find; mainly the "Psychology of Redeemption" and the "Philosophy of Sin". High sounding words, but don't worry...all roads of Oswald Chambers lead only to Christ and in today's world that is roadmap to be treasured. The physical layout of the complete works enabled me to see something I missed in his individual books; namely, to catch his outline at a glance as kind of a sneak preview to the context of his words. Wonder what did Christ really mean? Read the Complete Works of Oswald Chambers and every question will be answered in a way that not only your mind will grasp, but your soul will be fed as well. This book could well be subtitled, The Guidebook to the Life and Teachings of Christ for the Modern Day. Satisfaction guaranteed.
Not a Thinking Person's Book
Some have commented that Chamber's "Utmost..." is not as accessible and practical as Spurgeon's "Morning..." or "Evening..." That may be true and that is why in order to fully appreciate "Utmost," read where the texts came from--all of his works. Not only are his works compiled into one tome, but the CD features Chamber's poetical works also. I did not realize he was that incredibly gifted! Awesome!
An Amazing Find.
Every once in a while a volume gives you everything you could ask. This is one. Whether you are an old friend of OC or just making his acquaintance, you will find his special touch here. No one I know of can give the emphasis to the Person of Jesus that Chambers can. Just when you think your purchase of the book was one of the best you've ever made, you find the CD-ROM in back. It is worth the price by itself. Install it on your hard disk and spend a few minutes on the search mechanism and you will have an amazing facility to mine the writings of OC in a new way. Just excellent.
The Complete Works of Oswald Chambers
An excellent companion to the Bible. Oswald Chambers challenges you to rethink what it means to be a Christian. This book is assisting my wife and myself in understanding what our lives should be like if we claim to be devoted to Christ. The book serves as a guide to many areas of the bible where a deeper understanding is needed. The manner in which it is writen can be easily understood by most people. The accompnying CD is defintely a well appreciated bonus. I highly recommend this book to anyone desiring to know what the christian life means.
Every Book of Chambers
This is an exhaustive work. It includes a CD and every book of Oswald Chambers. Chambers is a mix of John Wesley and A.W. Tozer. His theology seems similar to the old-time Methodists. Some of his insights into the self-life are dead on, especially his views on worry and self-pity. One of the most memorable (and to some controversial) quotes from Chambers is "the only right a Christian has,is to give up all his rights." He focuses a lot on a Christian denying his right to self. The only drawbacks of this work is Chambers has a tendency to be too mystical in his interpretation of Scripture, and he over reaches in his exegesis of the biblical text. Still this is worth while reading, with many interesting points.
GREAT WORK FROM A GREAT BIBLE SCHOLAR
One of the best "teaching" collections I've ever read! Oswald Chambers was truly a "gifted" man. This collection of all his works is wonderful for the Christian who isn't satisfied until he/she digs for the gems found in God's word!
Oswald Chambers
I have always enjoyed Oswald Chambers books and this is complete teaching of all his books. There are scripture references to support all of his sermons. It's a cherished possession now. EA
Complete Works of Oswald Chambers
The best book next to the Bible that I have ever purchased. Pure and truthful teachings of Jesus Christ, an absolute must for anyone searching for truth. It is Bible study at home; I love following along in the Bible with it. Such a great blessing....it draws on you....can't wait to get home and get back into it. Have given one as a gift, plan on giving more. Well worth the money and Amazon.com has the best price with excellent delivery time.
A wonderful collection
I like the book very much. Just giving it a 4 because it was a little unclear whether a CD came with it or not, which is does not now, as the book has been rewritten and updated somehow so that isn't needed, I was told by the publisher.
Remarkable Insights Into Biblical Truths
I consider Oswald Chambers equal to the apostle Paul in his understanding of Jesus and the meaning of Christianity. Every serious Christian can profit from the insights of Chambers. These works, available to us because of the stenography of Mrs. Chambers, should be a part of every believer's library. They have changed my life.
CD ROM NOT INCLUDED!!! Book is wonderful, amazon site is misleading.
This book DOES NOT come with the CD ROM. It is textbook size, so I was really looking forward to having the electronic files for reading on the go. I had a very hard time getting customer service to understand how misleading it is to have reviews which state what a wonderful asset the digital version is, while the product description does not clearly state that this is not included in this version. Since I have already written notes on my book (it's that good), I was offered a discount to purchase the version with the CD ROM, but still had to pay close to $20 for it! Please beware!! I have just started reading the book, and so far it is excellent; the 1 star review is for the product description and for this customer service experience. It is surprising, since I have usually received very good customer service.
The Best Source for Bible Study that I've ever Read
All of the writings collected by Oswald Chamber has lead me into a much deeper understanding and Faith then I've ever had. I recommend it to everyone including those who have already studied Bible teachings in the past.
Oswald Chambers
Christian? Seeking Jesus? Buy this Book... God Bless you in your walk. Acts 2:42
Spiritually and and mentally stimulating
I have found this book a great treasure of spiritual insight written by a man who knew what it was to 'walk with God' in an intimate and personal relationship. His writings challenge the reader's heart with gentle but succinct Biblical truths and principles that have and will span all peoples, areas, and generations of life. It is also a delight to read the many well placed poems interspersed in his writings that are authored by well known poets of past ages.
Four Stars
Excellent, theological book.
A guide for everyday
This is another book recommend by my pastor as he instructs us on the book of Job. I find it an interesting companion to my bible and will continue to refer to it everyday as I study God's word.
the complete works of Oswald Chambers
This was a great buy. I love the book and can't wait to get into it. Thank you so much.
Best book ever OUTSIDE of the Bible
I bought this book as a gift, I already have a copy of my own. It is hands down the best gift I have ever given myself or could ever give someone else. Oswald Chambers seems to have been one of the truly inspired. There are sections for daily readings and there are others that will cause one to look deeply into themselves-not always a pretty sight and maybe even question yourself-not always a bad thing. This is the book for you if you are looking for something to add to your daily reading of the Bible, you will not regret purchasing it. The only downside, and this has nothing to do with the book itself, was the way that it was shipped. It was placed in a cardboard box without any protective covering around it, e.g. bubble wrap, tissue paper, etc. One of the corners was slightly bent but not enough for me to send it back. I did some looking around before I bought it and did find that Amazon had the best price plus it was shipped earlier than I expected. Go Amazon!
Timeless Godly Wisdom
Both my son (24) and I have been fans of Oswald Chambers "My Utmost for His Highest" for some time. As Christmas approached I started doing an Internet search on other works of Chambers. Somehow I came across this complete works including a cd of his biography. I ordered one for my son, and actually by mistake ordered it twice because of the one click purchase option. I was going to cancel the second order but decided to keep it for myself as a Christmas present! Wow! I am SO glad that I did. I love this book. Even though it appears to look like a textbook or coffee table book(BIG!), it is completely user friendly and thoroughly understandable. You can actually pick it up at any chapter and start reading. In my morning prayer and private time with the Lord I always have this book, my Bible and a Dictionary at my side along with notepad and pencil. This man had such Godly wisdom and knowledge. And his ability to teach it to others was a gift from God. He was born in 1874 in Aberdeen, Scotland and died in 1917 in Texas. His revelation and knowledge is as appropriate today as it was then. I highly recommend this book for anyone wanting to expand their Spiritual knowledge and depth. You will treasure it!
Oswald Chambers Works
I am enjoying the daily devotions of "My Utmost for His Highest" and also reading the other selections from "The Complete Works of Oswald Chambers." This was a man of God and he had truly yielded himself to the Potter. If only we had men of his ilk today. I know that there are some like Chambers out there but the number is few. What a blessing Gertrude "Biddy" Chambers was to Oswald and subsequently to all who now have the opportunity to read her hand transcribed notes. These two continue to be a marvelous blessing to the family of God.
Undeniable one of the best!
Undeniably one of the best Christian education books available - Oswald Chambers was blessed by God with great knowledge and wisdom which he shares in this book. These writings are from the lectures he provided in his own school. The neat thing is, after buying the book and reading it, you can go on-line to a site and have the entire book pulled over in PDF file so you can reference material by a specific scripture designation (like Hebrews 3:5). As far a shipping goes, I would have rated Amazon poorly because the ends of the box were not sealed and the invoice was missing - BAD security measures.
As readers we must share this maybe new knowledge to all generations that follows like us; he can still inspirer people today
Even if Oswald Chambers has passed on and no longer with us. He has left us with his own legacy. And this man has done his fair share. As readers we must share this maybe new knowledge to all generations that follows like us; he can still inspirer people today. This is how we discover people like Oswald. I'm sure they are more like him today.
Love this book
Love this book! It has everything I ever wanted to read by Oswald Chambers, and I want to read EVERYTHING by Oswald Chambers! I trust his viewpoint on the Scriptures and his way of connecting the Bible to our extraordinary mundane human life. Oswald Chambers writings engage us to be our utmost for His Highest.
Illuminated
I highly recommend this collection. I suggest starting with Biblical Ethics and moving to The Psychology of Redemption. Next, I recommend OC's commentary on Isaiah and Jeremiah. If you are interested in Christian counseling move on to Biblical Psychology, keeping in mind the vision of this work, and when it was written and taught (1907-1917). In general, this is an exhaustive and wonderful collection of talks, teachings and sermons composed by an unusually gifted turn-of-the-century pastor/teacher/theologian. Chambers is strong, very strong. I suspect him to be as gifted as any of the major reformers. Chamber's greatest gift is a relentless and penetrating understanding of the atonement; and what the cross means in the fullest dimensions of the: practical, behavioral, psychological, moral and spiritual. I have read most of this collection, and it has profoundly deepend my faith, especially my understanding of the the Cross of Christ and the Epistles of Paul. This is evangelical preaching and teaching at its highest: unvarnished, piercing, profoundly illuminated and directly centered in the Cross and the Word of God. Read and grow.
This book is a gift that keeps on giving!
This book cost less than $30 to purchase, but it has added deep wealth to my spiritual reserve. The collective work contains many valuable books by Oswald Chambers. any of these individual books would be worth the price by itself: Christian Ethics, Called by God, Christian Discipline, Biblical Psychology, My Utmost for his Highest...etc. When read alongside each other, these books compliment and enhance the teaching contained in each separate volume. You can read and reread the chapters and still find yourself refreshed and challenged by Chambers' writings. His words have a purifying effect on the readers' soul.
Unexpected Blessing
To have all of Oswald Chambers' works in one volume is an unexpected blessing. The organzation of his writings makes it easy to find particular topics. He includes exposition of the Word with each teaching piece. Thanks to all who handled this major project. My only disappointment was locating the editor, the man behind this collection. There are no inside pages about him, only in small print a mention at the top of the cover: "With Notes by David McCasland." This author did a superb job writing Chambers' biography, Abandoned to God.
Carolyn
I have read My Utmost For His Highest as my devotions for about three years now and each time I read them I see how much I've grown or not:) I recently listened to Abandoned To God, the story of Oswald Chambers life and wanted to listen to more of what he taught his students. I have not been dissappointed. Each time I pick it up I am blessed.
A Hidden Treasure
Most people see "My Utmost for His Highest" devotional book in all kinds of book stores, etc. But this book is a hidden treasure. There is a passion and a depth to Oswald Chambers that today's Christians are missing out on by not having this book. If you're looking to grow deeper in your faith to Jesus Christ then you will purchase this book.
Beautiful
This thing is massive - the size of a dictionary. It is hard to read a lot in one setting, but you can get more out of 3 paragraphs of Chamber's writings than you might out of a Christian self-help book. His writing is beautiful, profound and gospel centered. I like to call him the hipster C.S. Lewis, and I find him easier to understand.
The Best Daily Devotional I have Ever owned
The Best Daily Devotional I have Ever owned ! Purchased one for my son, and he agrees with me ----the best devotional---0ne of a kind!!! This author is, in my opinion, was equal to Dr.Billy Graham in Biblical writing!
Everything for the Oswald Chambers Student
This is a wonderful book. A treasure trove for the person who wants to get to know the man even mopre through his writings. The bonus CD-ROM makes this even more valuable. One problem only with Amazon shippijng. This is a HEAVY book... and Amazon shipped it in a BUBBLE WRAP envelope!?!? Come On! Now this beautiful book has rounded corners. Why? Please don't skimp on such things!!! This was a disppointment. Please ship in boxes!!
A Most Read
Everyone that is a 'Christian' or Not........Should read this book........Many may not be familiar with Oswald Chambers? Take the opportunity to purchase this book and find out for yourself. You may be very inspired by what Mr. Oswald to say! I gave this a 5 start and if I could have given it a 10 Star.
Five Stars
Very inspiring. Chambers' commentaries have helped in preparation of my Sunday School lessons.
Compelling writings from a singular man of God
Powerful, penetrating expositions with an unequaled depth, span and richness in the knowledge of the scriptures and God.

Complete Works of Oswald Chambers
My Bible stand apart and is FIRST in my reading. But this book has been such a tremendous help and ranks as the top #1 book in my library. It is a large book and takes time to get through it. It is for all with a hunger for truth but really only for more mature saints.
A God Send
The answer to a prayer. This book surpasses every spiritual book I've ever read (excluding the Holy Bible), in sharing the deep things of God. I spend hours within its pages reading and meditating on its words, reluctantly placing it aside when my eyes plead with me to stop.

Why hand I limited myself to only "Utmost ........."? A gem, a large one
Complete Works of Oswald Chambers
I chose this rating because of the quality and extremely beneficial information contained in this book. I would highly recommend it to anyone studying the Bible, or wanting a better understanding of personal with spiritual life. It brings out some valuable mis-conceptions and gives a good history or background to the foundations to the mis-understanding.
Excellent
Beyond my expectations!

If you want to enhance your spiritual journey, read this book.
Complete Oswald Chambers
I use this resource daily. To have all of his works in one place is a treasure. Not only does it contain the famous and well known My Utmost for His Highest daily devotionals, but it contains notes on classes that he taught throughout his life. He still teaches even after all these years after his death.

It's Oswald Chambers... What can you say
It is the full intake of information written from Oswald Chambers. What an author he is and what a shortened life but lived to the full. Insights are equipping. It came in on time and in good shape as advertised. They did what they said what they would do.

Chambers is not always an easy read, but it is a fascinating read that stimulates the mind to think more deeply. I have read several of his books over the years. This complete volume is quite a project to take on, but I am attempting to read it all the way through with a yellow marker and a pen. Get ready to swim in deep water, and be blessed.

The Complete Works of Oswald Chambers
Simply put, this was a harback book complete with CD ROM.I could not be more satisfied. Oswald Chambers, even though passed on for many years contributes much in revealing how God used him in giving wise counsel and instruction to those who need godly counsel be they a believer or not. The Complete Works of Oswald Chambers is something I will treasure for time to come.
Anointed writings
As expected, the writings of Oswald are Spirit inspired and anointed!! Beyond the bible, I would read anything by Oswald before ANY other author!
Should be required reading
Oswald Chambes hangs everything on the nails of the cross. His writings are needed in our disneyland church culture. He is from the old school that many have left behind for the playgrounds.
