So, I'm in the minority here but...
I gotta say, I'm a bit bummed with the book. It's 95% vegetarian. I got this for my 17 year old son thinking it might help him practice cooking or give him some ideas in the kitchen but neither him or any of the guys wanna learn how to make kale chips, mozzarella cheese bites or tofu stir fry. I'll be returning it.
Good cook book for kids but watch out for errors in the ingredients
Good cook book for kids who are interested in learning to cook. Very easy to follow and food turns out delicious. HOWEVER, be careful there are errors in the ingredient quantities. My daughter and I just made batch of chili following the recipe. It tells you to put 3 tablespoons of chilli powder!!!! There’s no way kids can eat that. For 1 lb of beef, it’s way too spicy for kids even grownups. We actually jearned a life lesson - you shouldn’t just follow the recipe as is. Sometimes you got to question it or double check or make trial and errors. So it’s all good in the end. My daughter still loved making her own chili.
Favorite basics cookbook by far!
This book has well tested recipes with tons of variety: familiar American flavors done well, explained simply, and covering the basics my 11 year olds want to know. Things that caught their eyes: Pancakes, French Toast, Waffles, Eggs (hard boiled, fried, and scrambled), Breakfast Tacos with Bacon, Blueberry Muffins, Monkey Bread, Smoothies, Yogurt & Berry Parfaits, Granola Bars, Stovetop Popcorn, Salsa, Guacamole, Cheese Quesadillas, Nachos, Hummus, Lemonade, Iced Tea, Hot Chocolate, Grilled Cheese Sandwiches, Tomato Soup, Oven-Fried Chicken, Beef & Broccoli Stir Fry, Beef & Bean Chili, Pizza (dough & sauce included), Corn Bread, Mashed Potatoes, Buttermilk Biscuits, Honey Butter, Banana Bread, Chocolate Sheet Cake, Chocolate Chip Cookies, Brownies, Strawberry Shortcake, Chocolate Sauce... Things that additionally caught my eyes: veggie wraps, caprese panini, glazed salmon, quinoa, roasted broccoli, sesame noodles, strawberry cream paletas... I am attaching pictures of the index so you can read more. The thing about good cookbooks is they should show you what you know you want to learn and help you discover other things that you never knew existed but suddenly might be enticed into learning. This book does that, and does it really well because ATK tests their recipes so thoroughly, that if you follow the directions you are guaranteed a good quality meal. Leaving a beginning cook satisfied with a positive result is what this is all about. And frankly this is a book I would recommend for college students because it doesn’t talk down to you; it’s just presenting good food. Final word to the reviewer who was grateful to not “have” to watch their children in the kitchen: Yes, yes, you really do, but your relationship will be so much better for having spent real time together. Just do it.
Nicely done
Good quality book with recipes simplified where possible. For example instead of whisking melted butter into milk they guide through combining and heating in microwave. The recipes are marked as easy, medium or advanced and a mix of tastes for simple and more advanced palettes. Kids vary greatly but having raised my family and now cooking with grandchildren I would advise find something else for kids under 12 unless they show a real interest in cooking or more adventurous eating.
Make another cookbook! We need more recipes!
I’ve bought pretty much every children’s cookbook I can find and this one is hands down the best. I dont just buy these and they sit on the shelves. We use them! My children cook dinner every single week. I’m a chef and I hold a cooking class with them once a week, every week. I want them to read recipes and execute the steps. It’s beyond important to me that my children easily work their way around a kitchen. This cookbook is hands down the best one. The recipes taste good and make sense. It’s recipes that push the envelope in the right areas but produce really tasty meals, that have obviously been tested, and also the kids will eat. I do have a complaint though- not enough main meal recipes! That’s my one and only complaint! Make another cookbook already! All the other ones out there totally suck. We’ve made the oven fried chicken, the buttermilk drop biscuits with honey butter, Mexican street corn (ah-MAZING!), shredded chicken tacos, beef and bean chili and corny cornbread. Next weeks menu is the apple cider glazed pork chops with garlicky skillet green beans and smashed potatoes so they will be doing three of your recipes in one night! Can’t wait! All have been really tasty and I’ve come to trust the recipes knowing it will come out right. We made a recipe from a different cookbook last week and it was a disaster. Learned my lesson! We need more recipes!
Should be Cookbook for Teenage Chefs
Very disappointed. Great reviews were deceiving. Much too involved if your child is not a "chef". I love America's Test Kitchen but their tests must have been on children who spend all their time in the kitchen. The grandchildren I purchased books for love to be in the kitchen but most of these recipes are not foods they normally eat.
Let kids cook!
This was delivered on Friday and I woke up to avocado toast prepared by my 10 year old on Sunday. She adores this cookbook and I am 100% here for my child cooking for me for a change! This book has boosted her confidence and encouraged her to try new things - Saturday night she made tofu and geeen beans! You will not be disappointed with this book.
Nice informative cook book
I got this book for my kids but learned a bit myself! This book not only contains easy recipes for kids but techniques and information used by REAL cooks. It even includes recommendations for tools like proper knives and cutting techniques. Really glad we made this purchase.
great kids cookbook
I bought this for my son for Xmas. He likes to cook and I thought he would like to have his own kids cookbook. The book arrived with bent/crumples top corners on front and back hard cover. Looks like I bought it from the clearance section. So beware if you plan to give as a gift, packaging not great.
delicious recipies written for kids
I bought this book for my 11 year old daughter who has taken more interest in baking over the last few months. This book is very descriptive and appropriate for new cooks. So far she has made us pancakes and the chocolate chip cookies and both recipies were very good! I am looking forward to what she makes next.

Simple and Informative for Kids
This is a great kids cookbook. We decided to have one night a week that our kids cook dinner and this book has helped make this happen! They pick a recipe, make a shopping list, we shop together and they get going in the kitchen. This book has enough detail and simple recipes for both my 11 and 8 year old to understand and be able to follow. They are able to do most of the meal with little help from me. I definitely recommend this if you have a little one interested in getting in the kitchen!
What an amazing cookbook
Seriously this cookbook is awesome and full of lots of information! I gave it to my 9 year old for Christmas and immediately she began reading up on tips and tricks. We then based on the suggestions in the book got her a chef knife and a pairing knife. She's learned how to mince garlic and cut beef thin for a stir fry. The recipes are delicious as well. We absolutely positively love this cookbook. Now to see if they make some for baking and decorating sweets. Seriously tons of information with almost every recipe on ways to change recipes up/sub ingredients to how to cut properly and find the grain of the meats.
A Real Cookbook for Kids!
I bought this book for my friend's 10-year-old son. I looked through it and was very pleased to see that it contained recipes for both snack foods and meals, including a lot of things kids like to eat. In addition, it aims to teach kids about cooking. The front matter shows pictures of cooking tools and appliances and explains how to use them. Likewise it explains all kinds of cooking techniques. Each recipe is labeled with little chef's hat icons to show the level of difficulty. The design of the pages is bright and fun, and the book contain photos and drawings on almost every page, including photos of children cooking. I would recommend this for any child who's expressed interest in cooking or baking or a child you want to share your love of cooking with. Wish I'd had this when my daughters were 10.
A disappointment
I’m actually disappointed in this cookbook. First of all I didn’t like how the recipe instructions were organized. The cupcakes we made didn’t taste that good. I’m a retired chef, I know something about cooking and baking. The pictures are nice.
A practically useless book
The book is very generic. It contains nice pictures and trivial recommendations on how to hold a knife or melt butter, etc., that any parents can easily explain to their kids. The recipes are dull and not impressive, one can find much better ones online. Moreover, there are errors in ingredients. The very first (!) recipe tried by my 10 yo (muffins) required 3 cups of flour, while similar recipes found online required 2 for similar amounts of yogurt, eggs, and butter. No wonder the dough turned out to be dense and unmanageable. Definitely written not by an expert. So, my advice - do not waste money on this "kids friendly" substitute, but rather buy a trusted professional cookbook - your children will manage it just fine and, most importantly, enjoy the results!
Let’s Eat!
Perusing this cookbook that is a gift for my granddaughter made me excited to try these simple yet great recipes! Easy to use for beginner chef!
A good cookbook for kids
This was a gift to my granddaughter, age 8, who loves to help her dad cook. She also likes to watch America Test Kitchen on tv. Browsing through book, all recipes were rated with level of difficulty and also if adult supervision is needed. Recipes appeared to be what all family members would like to eat and current in selections. A great beginner cookbook and can’t wait until she cooks something for me when I visit. Photos and descriptions support the young cook.
A great starter cookbook
This is an excellent starting cookbook. Unfortunately, it's too simple for my kids, to whom I have already taught most of this content (before I discovered this book). However, I will gift it to other kids who aren't as advanced. I highly recommend this resource to beginners. It has excellent explanations and step-by-step instructions with kid-achievable variations.
Surprisingly, bad recipes.
Very disappointed. My 10 yo son enjoyed every minute of us searching, planning, shopping, making, close to 10 recipes from this book and only one tasted good. That one was the lemonade. Recipes were easy to follow. But unfortunately, the final product lacked taste.
Decent recipes but most call for refined sugar
A lot of easy ideas and lots of skill/technical tips but I was hoping it’d have a ton more recipes. The majority of the recipes of the 100 they boast about are tweaks and add ons to bigger recipes, ie. mods to blueberry muffins can give you a banana walnut muffin, etc. ALSO, a lot of recipes have sugar. I was hoping they’d come up with more creative ways to sweeten than use refined sugar like using bananas, syrup, honey, dates, etc. My toddler is 21mo and I will have to eliminate all sugar and modify accordingly. I do believe we will use this book for many years since he can grow into a mini chef and learn a lot about the skills/prep/cooking instructions. I cook a lot so I can easily make adjustments where needed to make it healthy but would have been nice if it were included.
GREAT cookbook for young chefs!
This is a great cookbook for new chefs. I’ve been hoping for an ATK childs cookbook for years and I’m so excited to buy it for my daughter this year! Great quality book, perfect size, and really good solid ATK recipes!
Great introduction for young cooks
As usual with ATK books, excellent primer and recipes. Illustrations and graphics are much better than anything I remember reading when I was a kid. Bought this for my 8 year old niece and she was engrossed with it. She is a picky eater so I'm hoping this helps expand her palate by getting involved in cooking for and with mom and dad.
Perfect for Very Young Kids Too
My five year old son helps with dinner every night. He has his own knives, his apron, and he’s gotten to the point of actually being helpful. Sometimes. I got him this book for his fifth birthday and he loves it. I’ve been reading recipes out loud to him and then we try them. These simple recipes are easy! As one example, I’d never thought to make plain cheese omelets. To my kids, omelets mean eggs with vegetables. When my son read that recipe, he wanted to try it and realized he did, in fact, like one omelet... Fun to read and try with kids of any age. I could imagine older kids taking the lead in the kitchen with this as their guide!
Great Book for Beginner Chefs!!!
My 10-year-old granddaughter loves this book. First night she made Apple Cider-Maple Pork Chops with Smashed Potatoes - a big hit. What I like about this book is it teaches the beginner chef some really good lifetime habits - read your recipe all the way through, gather your equipment (there is a list for each recipe) and gather your ingredients then start. My granddaughter has been following this suggested work flow every time, She loved this book so much I also got the beginning baker one by America's Test Kitchen...she is now busy baking banana chocolate chip mini muffins for breakfast! P.S Be sure to make the humus recipe - it is the best I have ever had and dunking veggies in it makes it a terrific healthy snack for kids!
Great for kids learning to cook on their own.
My 12 year old loves to cook. By cook, I mean, she likes to make meals from Green Chef that show up on our doorstep basically ready to go. I figured that I would pick her up some cookbooks to broaden her skills. I had seen reviews of this book and decided to start here. Now, as the owner of expensive cookware (think All-Clad Copper Core and lots of Le Creuset), I am generally hesitant of anyone using them, let alone a 12 year old. But, I decided to let go of control (I mean, it's just stuff, right?!) in the name of teaching my 12 year old to cook dinner for me so I don't have to do it. She started with a pasta recipe. I made sure she had read the recipe over a couple times before starting. It's one of those pasta recipes where you cook the tomatoes and pasta together. Well, she forgot that using a cast iron dutch oven on high will almost always make the liquid rigorously boil down faster than what the cookbook tells you, resulting in very al dente noodles. I should have been listening, but I thought she had it. My bad. Next she tried the tomato soup and it came out great. She is making the turkey meatballs this weekend and I know she is excited. The cookbook has step by step instructions, recipes that are not at all complicated, and recipes that are geared to food that children usually consume. It's a great purchase for a kid just learning to cook on their own with a little bit of parent supervision (I mean, I like my house and don't want to experience a fire).
Not a basic learn to cook book.
For fancy kitchens. I did not have the ingredients or equipment to use this book with my grandchildren. The simplest recipes were not very easy or tasty.
My 9 Year Old Loves This Book
Every family in the country should have this book! Think of how we could improve the health of the public if everyone knew how to cook nutritious meals, simply, and started learning how to cook as children. We will be giving this book as gifts. My 9 year old was thrilled to receive this book yesterday. As soon as it came he read through all the recipes, and this morning made blueberry muffins - they truly turned out delicious (you can cut back on the sugar though). We appreciate the detailed directions and explanations on how to cut, kitchen terms and items to have on hand, etc. Unlike another reviewer, we are glad that most recipes are vegetarian - there just isn't a need to eat meat for most meals. However, if the publisher wanted to release an expanded edition, they could add more main dishes, inc. one to satisfy those who want more meat recipes, perhaps a section on grilling burgers (both meat and vegetarian versions) with topping suggestions (guac, cheese, etc.). I am so glad that my child is eager to learn how to cook, and this book makes it practical and inspiring. Kids might need support with the recipes, depending on age and experience.
A great book for young cooks!
Time magazine recommended this book for young cooks in an article about The variety of things kids learn from cooking. We gave copies to two families for our grandchildren and they are all excited to help with making meals. Attached is a photo of a salad and salmon made by our grandson and grand daughter for a family dinner. Our son helped just a bit with the salmon, however the kids ages 10 and 12 did most of the cooking following the recipes in the book.
A fantastic cookbook for any beginner!
I highly recommend this cookbook for any beginner! I bought this for my 9 and 13 year old children but I would have loved to have had this cookbook when I first moved out on my own in my early 20's. My parents never really cooked. so I had no clue how to even hard boil eggs! There are recipes that range from super easy (frying eggs, hard boiling eggs, grilled cheese sandwiches, etc) all the way to more advanced Sweet and Tangy Glazed Salmon and Crispy Oven Fried Chicken. The "advanced" recipes are still easy to follow, though. My 9yo cooked the salmon almost completely by herself and she has very little prior experience in the kitchen. Every recipe we've tried has been delicious and my kids are so proud of the amazing food they are cranking out!
Perfect gift for our 8 year old who loves cooking
We got this for our 8 year old daughter who loves cooking. She wants to help in the kitchen more than we let her, so she had taken to waking up early to make us breakfast. It started as a plate of nuts and fruit, and lately turned into scrambled eggs with toast and we'd jump out of bed when we smelled something cooking to make sure she didn't burn herself. She loves the book, and we are 100% thrilled with it. I LOVE that it's all kid-focused. Kids are featured in the pictures doing the cooking, which is really empowering. There are many side-bars and boxes that provide extra information about modifying the recipes or explain why something is the way it is. We read the recipes as part of her reading homework, and the ingredient lists are teaching her about fractions. As someone who has taught cooking and nutrition classes to adults, I love the sections on healthy eating that teaches about "MyPlate", the part about different knives and how to use them, and the first chapter about cooking tools, ingredients, measuring, conversions, etc. I also appreciate that this kids cookbook isn't just grilled cheese and chicken nuggets. Recipes are rated as beginner, intermediate, or advanced, and there is incredible variety - everything from small items for one person to "friends and family"-sized main dishes, beverages, desserts, sides, breakfast, and snacks. I really think there's something for everyone here. This is a book that our children can grow with for many years. If you plan to really teach your elementary-age child about being confident in the kitchen, this is a great book to guide you. If you have a teenager who wants to do it all themselves, this would also work. We've made about 12 recipes and so far they've all been tasty. That gives me confidence that the authors really did their homework to make sure the recipes taste good and go over well with kids! If your child doesn't seem to like the recipes that are unfamiliar to them, just keep making new things and trying them. When kids are a part of making a dish, they are WAY more likely to try it and like it!
Came destroyed
The pages were all bent in almost all the way in and damaged. I bought as a gift and was disappointed. I couldn't give a torn up book to anyone. I wish i didn't put it aside to he wrapped and I could have returned it on time.
Excellent teaching tool
My 7-year-olds have been asking for their own cookbook. I got both the baking book and the cookbook for kids from America's Test Kitchen and am so pleased with them. Though they are still at an age where they need quite a bit of help, I am confident that they will continue to use these and become more independent with them as their reading skills improve. Over the last few weeks, they have been taking turns helping to make meals and treats. I appreciate that this cookbook offers a good variety in both types of dishes and difficulty levels. We have enjoyed everything that we have made, which include a pasta dish, a salmon dinner, simple grilled cheese sandwiches (a good first recipe to help them understand how to follow steps), granola bars, barbecue chicken sandwiches, and vegetable side dishes. It's been nice to switch things up instead of ALWAYS having a helper with me for dinner entrees :). There are notes from young recipe testers with each recipe, and my children have enjoyed writing in their own reviews of each dish. The step-by-step instructions and abundance of photographs are so helpful for young chefs.
My Granddaughter loves it.
My 10 year old granddaughter, who lives 1,000 miles away from me, expressed interest in cooking during our last visit. I looked at a number of cooking for kids books and found this to be the best of the lot. It assumes your "kid" is still not playing with play dough and actually tried to teach a young person the basics of cooking. She now cooks something almost daily and we plan to do a full meal together on my next trip.
What About the Waste?
Bought this for grandkids. Haven't 'tested' it with them yet, just read it myself. Looks pretty good but I'm DISAPPOINTED they didn't do more to encourage less wastefulness, more regard for food. A couple of nice mentions in a couple of the recipes on "how to store the leftovers" but too many outright mentions of 'discarding' — no mention of composting, saving for stock, or, in the case of an egg white, "another use". No mention of "leftovers" in the index. So overall, a missed opportunity to use this book as a way to teach kids, right off the bat, to use up every morsel.
Not geared to kids
I am a huge fan of this group but this cookbook although well done does not focus on the palette of young chefs
This book is AWESOME!
This book is awesome. The recipes are kid AND adult friendly - no stupid craft-like finger foods, but real meals, and a healthy variety. It lists all the tools to get out ahead for each recipe, and has instructions for things like "how to chop herbs" right where the kids need them. It treats kids like they're capable chefs, and it turns out they are. 100% recommend! My husband has even made an item or two from the cookbook, and following new recipes is not his specialty. ;)
Amazing cookbook to get kids in the kitchen!
We absolutely love this cookbook! We bought this for our daughter last Christmas to encourage her to try new things and get her cooking with us. She has enjoyed pretty much every recipe out of this book we have tried. Her favorites are the balsamic glazed salmon, oven roasted broccoli, and one-pot tomato basil penne pasta. These are all things that we never would have been able to get her to try before! We are still going thru and trying new recipes out of the book. This one is definitely a keeper!
A great mix of kid friendly classics and more mature options.
My 8 year old son absolutely loves this book and so do I. I was a bit concerned by some of the reviews saying that the recipes were too mature/not kid friendly. I totally disagree! Yes, there are some more mature recipes, which I appreciate because it encourages kids to try things outside of their comfort zones. But there are also a ton of easy kid friendly classics, like pancakes, omelets, breakfast tacos, grilled cheese, turkey burgers, granola bars, meatballs, burgers, chicken tacos, several pasta dishes, tomato soup, cookies, brownies, and lots more. It’s totally consistent with the type of food we eat in our home, and my son loves that he can contribute by cooking some of the things I would typically cook. Tonight he made the sweet and tangy glazed salmon, roasted broccoli, and mashed potatoes. Of course I had to help some—he’s 8! But he was able to do the bulk of the work, and feels so independent and proud of himself.
Great if Your Kid Likes Health Food
If your kid likes to eat hummus, kale, and zucchini noodles this is the book for you. If your kitchen is stocked with staples like panko bread crumbs, hoisin sauce, tahini, and chickpeas, this is the book for you. **sarcasm** I found this book very disappointing as I know none of the grandchildren intended as gift recipients will use it.
Great way to introduce kids to cooking!
I got this for my 10 and 7 year old sons as an introduction to cooking. My 10 year old made the tostadas and chocolate cake with buttercream frosting for dinner and dessert tonight. Both were delicious. He was able to make them both 99% independently. He was so proud of his creations. A huge confidence builder! My 7 year old is going to make the turkey burgers for us tomorrow. I suspect he will need a bit more assistance. Overall, there are a lot of basic recipes for all different tastes and skill sets. Really happy with this purchase.
Decent recipes, some very simple to make
Pretty decent recipes for a beginner kid to use around the kitchen. Helps them with planning out making the meal from beginning to end, portioning it up or down depending on the size they are making, and makes them a happy camper eating their own "cooked" meals at the end. Some of the recipes are well done and tastes good, but keep in mind there is a good portion of the book dedicated to stuff like drinks and desserts which I am not a huge fan of having those in cookbooks, they are just filler recipes IMO.
Great cookbook for all ages!
I purchased this cookbook for my 11 year old granddaughter. We have made so many recipes and have loved everyone. The recipe instructions are great but there are many helpful instructional aspects to the book about cooking in general. I really like that the ingredients for the recipes are not too numerous. I have purchased other cookbooks that have great sounding recipes but the list of ingredients was so long that you could go broke - not with this cookbook. Really enjoy it and recommend it for all ages.
My Kid Is A Jr. Chef Now!
This is a great cookbook for pre-teens who want to get familiar with cooking. The recipes and instructions are pretty straight forward. My 12 year old was able to manage the recipes with minimal help...besides...I was too busy being a photographer! The meals are simple. The tastes are fine/simple. It’s a good way to introduce new foods to kids. Kids are more eager to try foods that they help prepare. I’d definitely recommend to anyone who wants their kid to actually learn how to cook and not just microwave things.
Future family heirloom
Bought this for my 10yr old daughter because she loves to cook. She spent an hour looking through the recipes when I gave her this book and marked ones she wants to make, which was almost all of them. Excellent quality. Sturdy binding. The cover is a soft and matt cover which makes it feel like a professional cook book. The recipes included are easy to follow with easy to find ingredients with excellent tips and instructions in many cooking techniques. A great teaching cook book that my daughter, and family, will enjoy for years to come. I'm sure she will pass it down to her own children one day.
A Kitchen Staple
After checking this book out at a local library, I knew it belonged in my collection. I also purchased two more as gifts which were well-liked. It's not just for kids! I learned a few things despite years of experience cooking. The recipes are all winners and added bonus, they are so simple even a child can make them. Every page pops with vibrant colors, photos, and smart layouts that are visually interesting. The text is large and easy to read while cooking or prepping. Anyone of any age would benefit from this book. It makes a great housewarming gift or graduation gift. College students will love it. Where are the next 100 recipes?
Life Changing!
My 9 y/o daughter received this gift from a chef friend. My daughter had not done much cooking at all before this book, and after this book, she is cooking multiple times a week! What we love is that these are real meals, which are incredibly good. The recipes clearly show which are easy vs. more challenging. My daughter has practically memorized the items in this cookbook. She has gained so much confidence, and is so proud that she is able to contribute these beautiful meals. We have bought 4 copies to give to friends! Bonus score for a number of healthful options in here.
Perfect for the beginning chef!
My son loves this cook book! He’s learning how to find what he wants to make, adds the ingredients to his grocery list, and then prepares the meals. We started out with the basic salsa and grilled cheese and will make our way to deserts and meals in the future, but a great stepping stone to cooking. He’s not very interested in reading too much, so the large images make it to where he feels it’s not that much reading involved. Highly recommend.
Huge Waste of Money!
I received a dirty and damaged book- looks like it’s used, even though I bought “new” as it was supposed to be a gift and now I can’t return it?
Great Cook Book
My daughter absolutely loves this book. She has cooked at least 5 different recipes and I must say they're delicious. My daughter is 9 and now ask if she can cook almost everyday.
Perfect for budding chefs
I bought this for my 7 year old since she has been wanting to get more involved in the kitchen. She has made a bunch of the recipes over our time in lockdown and even found herself inspired to try something she would ordinarily never touch if I made it for her. She didnt wind up liking it but that's ok Im just happy she's broadening her horizons a bit.....I love how the recipes have not just a skill level key (number of chef hats) but also a method key (knife required? A stove? They let you know!) It really helps kids pick an appropriate recipe based on if they'll be working independently or with a grown up close by and the real life kid reviews of the recipes are such a wonderful touch
Busy, busy
Disappointed. Most of the recipes are for things that do not need recipes. Target for young kids. Instead of all the colored pages I would rather see larger text, simpler to read for young chefs. This book should never have been sent to their marketing and graphics department. Editors - you might have stars for this but you missed the mark. Get the kids reading!
Colorful with step-by- step instructions
I bought this cookbook for two of our great-granddaughters. I overheard one of them say (as she hugged the cookbook to her chest) to her mom, our granddaughter, "This is my favorite Christmas present." I have a whole collection of cookbooks, but was wishing I'd ordered one for myself. Easy to read, attractive pages and illustrations & step-by-step instructions along with helpful hints to enhance the finished product. Also, recipes are those appealing to a young person. A delightful gift for beginning cooks.
Healthy and kid-approved
I got this book for my son (5 years) so he could start helping in the kitchen more. I think the age rating on this book is about right - it is a little above where he was at, but again, I got it with the intention of doing most of the recipes with his help, where this book is written for someone who is a little older and more independent when it comes to making food. My son has enjoyed every recipe that we’ve made so far, and many of them are healthy instead of just being typical “kid fare” like some cookbooks for children can be. I’ve also learned some interesting techniques I never knew about before, so it’s not just for the kids!
Great starter cook book for young chefs
This is a great book for young budding chefs. Great explanations and interesting recipes that are both fairly simple and still amazing! Got this for our 11 y/o and he made 4-5 recipes his first week. Popcorn was a bust, but that was more a learning experiment. The glazed salmon was incredible and the whole family loved it!
Way off- kids hated this book- returned it
This is the most useless book I have seen. There’s not 1 thing my grandsons would eat. How many children eat tofu. Why not do kid friendly basics. French toast, scrambled eggs, home made chicken tenders, fried shrimp.
Binding broke first time opened
I gave this to my daughter for her birthday. She opened the book for the first time and the insides immediately completely detached from the binding. So now I'm glueing the book back together, instead of her trying out recipes. By the time she opens it again, hopefully it will be an actual book instead of a hardcover and a separate piece with pages.
Great cookbook!
Bought this for my stepson who likes to cook, and we've had fun making things together out of this. I also bought the companion book for baking and can't wait to start in on those.... well worth it for a pre-teen/teen who wants to get to know their way around the kitchen and learn some life skills!
Perfect for 8 year old
I bought this book for my niece's 8th birthday. She has been showing an interest in cooking and this book is perfect for her. She has already made multiple dinners for her family, and even lunches for herself. Like other reviewers have said, this book is heavy on vegetarian recipes. For me, that was perfect, since my niece is vegetarian. But I flipped through the entire book and even without meat, most of the recipes look really good. There is a whole section of mostly meat though, it's not all veggie!
Highly recommended for the young chef
This is a great book for kids interested in cooking. Gave this to my 7 year old for his birthday and he loves trying the recipes. Great flavors and good recipes that adults will enjoy too vs some of the other recipe books for kids out there that are not remotely health conscious and just seem geared to be “fun”. If you are wanting to develop your child’s pallet and have them cook things that you will also enjoy this is a great book.
Excellent book for young chefs
Variety of cooking and baking recipes. Bought this for my child who loves to cook/bake. Very easy for kids to follow, with written instructions and visuals for reference. As an adult I like to find recipes from the book to make as well. Highly recommend this one and the baking version from the same publisher.
Great Cookbook for Kids
I bought this for my grandson's 9th birthday. He really likes to help in the kitchen with meal prep and cooking. He was so excited about all the recipes and immediately found things he wanted to make. When they got home, he went through the book and made his Mom add a whole bunch of stuff to their grocery list. There are quite a few recipes he can easily make on his own now + plenty of ones he can make as his culinary skills grow.
Watch out now! Mom is getting kicked out of the kitchen!
This book has gotten en my 10 year old really excited about making meals for the family. He’s always shown some interest in the kitchen, and this book will help with his confidence! My 5 year old has really loved cooking for a long time so she is enjoying being the assistant chef with her big bro. I would recommend this book to kids, teens, college kids and anyone else who needs guidance! The other benefit is I’m hopeful that cooking will help him with staying focused and not getting distracted!
great for beginner cooks
I bought it for my teenager so he can have something more to do and contribute during lockdown. But I ended up being the one using it because it has a lot of easy recipes and tips for beginner cooks like me:) It really breaks down stuff into easy to follow steps (sometimes with illustrations). My teen is a burger and fries kind of guy though and he doesn't eat half the stuff in the recipe book (ex. the avocado breakfast) so it was not very useful for him.
ATK Delivers Again
My daughter loves this book! ATK is awesome and their recipes are great...especially for my daughter. She’s excited to make us dinner and breakfast and I’m excited to help her. She preach asking for a set of knives...but I think we’ll wait on that. If you’ve got a child interested in cooking this is a good one.
great inspiration
my 11-year-old daughter absolutely loved getting this book! it sparked her to find recipes, bookmark them, and even create shopping lists. she's a picky eater (although she won't admit it), and having her choose and cook her own recipes really helped her understand how much work, but how much fun cooking can be. we gave her minimal supervision on some recipes, and the instructions are so clear that she didn't need our help at all. i'd highly recommend this!
Great for picky eaters!
I got this for my son as one of his 7 year birthday presents. He is an extremely picky eater, but likes to be involved in the kitchen. I thought this would help him widen the variety of foods he would try and eat daily. This helped so much! We cook breakfast, lunch, and dinner from recipes in the book at least once a week. He doesn’t always like what we make, but he at least TRIES it, which is more than I can say before we got the book!
Great book with real food options
Bought for my children 9,10,&12. They each take a day of the week to plan and prepare dinner and this book had been amazing for them! They love being able to make a nice meal without feeling out of their depth. The pictures, tips, and easy language are amazing. I would hands down buy this for any young aspiring cooks or for someone who is afraid of cooking!
Too advanced for youngest age specified
I bought this for my granddaughter for Xmas. It is a really nice resource for kids, but I think it was too advanced for her (almost 8 years, youngest range listed as suitable). Virtually all recipes would require intense adult supervision throughout the prep and baking/cooking process. I do like however that it has some basic information about kitchen equipment, food prep, etc. I have saved it and will gift it next year or so.
Learning to cook for yourself
I got this for my son and he loves it. A lot of times he has to make food for himself and his dads. I originally got this so we could cook together because I love cooking but he asked if he could take it over and I said yes. He has said it is easy to fallow and loves using it. I looked through it and I love that they have pictures of what steps should look like. Wonderful book for kids learning to cook.
It was a hit!
I bought this for my granddaughter's 10th birthday. I gave it to her with an embroidered apron that my mother gave to me many years ago (I never wear an apron). She had recently started making "concoctions" from ingredients found in the kitchen. She's a very picky eater and I'm hopeful that it will inspire her to try new foods. She reports that she has used the cookbook j"millions of times" and my daughter reports that she is making the recipes without any help from adults.
Nine year old foodie loves this book
These recipes are actually pretty complex for a little foodie chef, but the instructions are very clear. This cookbook would also be great for adults who want to delve into some beginning foodie recipes. We have posted several photos on our social media and everyone always wants to know where our nine-year-old gets her recipes. They never believe she makes it all herself, but she can with this book. :)
Great, simple recipes
We have both this cookbook and the The Complete Baking Book for Young Chefs from America's Test Kitchen. Both cookbooks are excellent. The recipes are simple, but do not sell children short on quality. My 7 year old daughter and I have enjoyed making many of the recipes together and they always turn out beautifully. I highly recommend this cookbook for any young or novice chef.
Arrived damaged
The book itself is just fine, but it was shipped to me in a box with several other items, and the book was not wrapped or protected in any way, so it arrived damaged. The spine of the book is scratched/torn, and there are greasy marks on the cover (not sure what those are from since there was nothing greasy in the box with it). I’m rather disappointed, as this was intended to be a gift for my nephew, but I don’t like the idea of gifting a damaged book.
Bought 4 of Them
This is an excellent starter cookbook for youth. It has general ideas on categories e.g. "Baking" and mostly has easy recipes for delicious menus. after giving the book to one of my Grandsons, he immediately went into the kitchen and came out a half hour later with some cookies for everyone. Another grandchild is now making pizza - and making the dough from scratch.
Fabulous for beginners and those who just didnt know
This book is great for my daughter who loves to cook, but my recipes don't always have all the steps. This outlines everything, explains the why for doing things and is making her an even better cook. Plus I don't have to stand over her in the kitchen to explain.
Great
Wonderful cookbook for kids and teens. The pictures are lovely, with a good choice of recipes that are very easy to follow. It's educational but written shortly and succinctly, which worked well for my tween who likes to skip things when they are too wordy. A really great introduction to cooking with plenty of insight, tips and tricks--I learned quite a bit as well!
Foodie approved; Parent approved
This book (and the baking book) are truly excellent. As a foodie, I was skeptical that a children’s cookbook would have high flavor. I was wrong. The technique is explained perfectly (such that my 12 yo is totally independent when using this) and the results are delicious - full flavor and good texture. I wish that there more like this!
Great book for beginners
Ordered as a Christmas gift for our daughters boyfriend. He expressed a desire to learn to cook for himself, and this book, while geared towards a younger crowd (boyfriend is 16), has served him well already. I was impressed with some of the recipes, as well, and had to take a few pictures for us to try out before wrapping it up.
Great Cookbook for Youth
I bought this cookbook for my 11 year old granddaughter who absolutely loves to cook and she indicated that she loves this book. It has easy to follow instructions and plenty of pictures to highlight the recipes. This is one of the best recipe books I have found that clearly focuses on young "chefs" and has many recipes in a variety of categories.
Very basic
My daughter loves to cook and read recipes. This book was way too basic for her. It’s more basic skills than actual recipes. It’s not for young chefs, but maybe for little kids who don’t know anything about being in the kitchen.
Best kids cookbook!
The best cookbook for kids available! This book doesn’t just have recipes, it teaches kids to cook! The recipes are well-laid out and simple to follow. Even my 7 year old has been making his own grilled cheese and smoothies! For older kids they can do even more, and to be honest, I used the monkey bread recipe for Christmas breakfast! Not just for kids ha ha!
Enjoy cooking together
My 10 year old and I are having a blast creating meals from the book. So far we've liked everything we've made. It's been a real confidence builder for both of us! The book contains detailed instructions, simple but interesting recipes, and is full of tips on cooking basics. There's also info on how to choose kitchen gear.
Great kids cookbook
My daughter (age 10) loves this cookbook. We’ve made the secret chocolate sauce, penne pasta and lemonade. The recipes are great for young cooks just trying out the kitchen on their own or with assistance. The food choices are unique but kid friendly. 4 out of 5 stars because some of the directions are quiet lengthy when they really don’t need to be. It’s a cookbook for kids, it shouldn’t be so in depth imo.
Beautiful cookbook
This is a great little cookbook. I got it after getting my daughter the baker's edition (which I do like better than this one). But it has the same great illustrations and directions. AND if your child is better at following them, then tomato soup mishaps, like what happened last night, are less likely to occur. Lol
Great Cookbook
Bought this book for my 10 year old Great-Grandson, who enjoys coming to my home and cooking with me. He really enjoys the easy to read recipes and directions. (In fact, we both do!) We have fun shopping for the needed items and then he lines them up on the counter, washes his hands thoroughly and begins re-reading the recipe so he can follow it accurately. Thank you for having this wonderful book available!
So Great for My 13-Year-Old Daughter!
LOVE this book! My teen daughter has made many recipes out of here. Some of our favorites are the glazed salmon, pork chops, beef and broccoli, turkey burgers, and the biscuits. The recipes are easy to follow, and we have enjoyed all of them! I've even used it myself for some things. I highly recommend this!
Needs more dinner courses & popular dishes
Instructions are good. And there are the same number of recipes for each course. Since dinner is the main course I think dinner should be the focus so that was disappointing to me. Also, I found a lot of the recipes useless for our family, they were not foods that we eat or what I would deem popular dishes. So my child was underwhelmed.
Really great gift!
I bought this for my 9 year olds birthday and she was very excited about it. She has tried about 3 recipes so far and they all tasted great! It’s really building her confidence in the kitchen and in herself...really fun for kids to do. I highly recommend this cookbook, there are recipes I want to try myself!
Gift for a Kid
We bought this as a Christmas gift for our 11 yo nephew who has started showing some minor interest in the kitchen. Hoping this will help expand his picky palate. The cook book is very well detailed. There is even a conversion chart! There are plenty of pictures of the dishes and the instructions are clear/easy to understand. Hoping he actually puts it to use. I would!
Awesome recipes that even adults are impressed with! Not just for kids!
Absolutely love this cook book! Easy recipe that feel REAL! I'm about to abandon all of my own cookbooks and just use these. Wanted a cookbook for my 5 year old to start experimenting with (with lots of help and supervision) that wasn't just about making silly shapes out of food. I wanted real food and this cookbook is just that!! Absolutely delicious recipes that are simple enough for a 5 year old but complex enough for any adult to make or eat. LOVE, LOVE, LOVE!! We are becoming more and more addicted to anything by America's Test Kitchen. Well Done! (We also love the companion baking book too)!
Great book for kids and adults :)!
Excellent cook book for kids and adults for the simple easy things to start out with. The instructions are clear and pictures are colorful. I keep this book available on my counter for my 10 and 12-year-olds. So far, we've made three meals from the book and they've so helpful to a working mother.
Gets kids cooking
My son received this on his 8th birthday and immediately wanted to cook something every day. He made french toast breakfast, grilled cheese lunch, and pesto pizza dinner with only a little help and safety supervision. I’ve tried to involve him in cooking but he was never this enthusiastic before. I think he loves being told he can do it himself.
My kid loves it!
My kid is a budding chef and loves this cookbook. It has wonderful lessons for the kids to learn how to cook. It teaches them techniques. Not only does each recipe have a list of ingredients, but also a list of tools that will be needed. The instructions are clear, and my nine-year-old barely needs help understanding them. Sometimes he needs some assistance in the execution, but that's it.
No Problems At All, Would Buy Again
I bought this cookbook for my 12-year-old daughter on her birthday, and she hadn't really been into cooking before (unless you count mac & cheese!), but the next day she was already making great meals! My nine-year-old daughter loved this book, too. The instructions were so easy to follow and delicious food was a given when using a recipe from here. Would definitely buy this again.
Not Just For Young Chefs
I purchased this book for my 10 year old grandson. After a short review, I wished I had ordered one for myself. So informative and creative. He has completely taken to cooking and I can only attribute his sudden interest to this book. I can't recommend it highly enough. Hope everyone experiences the success with their young chef that I have.
Perfect for my 10 yo daughter!
This was a Christmas present for my daughter and she loves it! This is the greatest cookbook for beginners, it explains terminology in recipes, utensils and how to use them, and really breaks down the recipe for new cooks, my daughter has really enjoyed being more independent in the kitchen and definitely building her confidence in using cooking utensils, following a recipe and cooking :) and the recipes she has made so far taste great! (Love all things America's Test Kitchen!) Highly recommend this book!
Great book, easy to use and great ideas and recipes!
We were given this as a gift. My kids 9 and 7 love it. They started creating and cooking during the pandemic. This book is easy for them to prep and follow recipes. The recipes are delicious! They want to cook a meal for my husband and I each week now. They proudly tell their friends about cooking now! I had to get one for a friend.
A Big Hit with grandkiddos
We are big fans of America's Test Kitchen and this children's cookbook lived up to our expectations. It has well chosen recipes for their tastes (or mine!), nice photographs and well organized, easy to follow recipes. Our only problem is what to try first. I bought it for children 6, 9 & 12 years of age.
Next chef in the Family?
I was a chef for over 20 years and enjoyed the Test Kitchen programs. When I saw this book, I knew it would be great for my 7 year old nephew who has started cooking a bit with my brother, who could also use some help. I look forward to his response to the book and to tasting a recipe or two when we visit next
Wonderful
Spectacular book. He immediately started using this book the moment he got it. One of the very first recipes he cooked was homemade pizza. The only thing is it explained that you were to use a food processor, which we do not own one due to the room we have in our kitchen. I wish it gave an alternate as he cooks when I’m not home sometimes. It’s nice to eat someone else’s cooking sometimes.
Good enough
I really like the beginning of the book that defines all of the cooking vocabulary. Some of the recipes are good but a few are kind of random. I have it four stars because I feel like there are several better recipes for a kids cookbook but all in all, we enjoy it
Wide Range of cooking abilities!
This book has been great for our kids ages 4-10. They flipped through some of the pages and the pictures that my non-reading 4 year-old sees is what he wants for dinner! The older girls love cooking, too. While my husband and I oversee, the kids have prepared Monkey Bread, French Toast, and Pizza!
Wonderful collection
Love the cookbook but I am taking to our FedEx store to have it made into a spiral bound book which is much easier to use
Perfect for kids!
This cook book is perfect for any young wanna be chefs. It has easy to read and follow recipes. It has pictures to help understand the recipes. It has measurements and breakdowns that kids can understand. Will not get board with these recipes. Theres tons!!!!!
Excited young chef!
Gift
Perfect!
My 10 year old made me a chocolate cake from this recipe book for my birthday and I was shocked. It was amazing, he has made so many things on his own using this book, I'm so stunned. The only thing I do is light the stove or oven for him. That's it.
Great book for young chefs
This was a gift to my niece, a 9 year old aspiring chef. She loves to make recipes with her mom and is learning a lot. I have received pictures of the chocolate chip pancakes and smashed potatoes and it all looks delicious. If you have a young person who is interested in learning to cook, this book is an excellent start.
An excellent starting point for getting kids involved.
Both my 12 year old and 9 year old love this cookbook. The pizza sauce is their absolute favorite so far. The book gives them lots of instruction and reasoning as to why things work and need to be in certain ways. They love that every recipe has a photo to go with it as well.
Wonderful for starter cooks who want to Learn How
Book provides best practices to start the cook out right. We enjoy coaching yet a young cook needs to learn steps and order as well as vocabulary. Learning the difference between knead, stir, beat, fold, whip, blend, and top creates lots of fun with the adults in the room. NOW about cleanup??
Great cookbook
My kids love this cookbook. They really appreciate the steps and can make the meals completely by themselves.
Off to a great start!
The 6-year-old triplets loved it! Gave each a cookbook for Christmas, along with inexpensive chef hats and aprons in different colors. Kids chose food pictures they liked and put recipes together under parental supervision. A win-win-win!
GREAT FOR PRE-TEENS
I bought this as a gift for my 11 year old great niece who likes to cook for her Dad. She told me she has made several of the recipes and they've all turned out really good. She appreciates the instructions on how to use different cooking utensils as well. Well put together cookbook for anyone learning their way around a kitchen.
Perfect for all ages
This is an amazing cookbook with tried and true science and testing which yields super tasty recipes. My child loves trying new recipes and we've loved several. She is gaining valuable information following the education in this book! As a regular home cook, I love the explanation as to why and how certain techniques really make a recipe stand out! For instance I now only steam and ice bath my hard boiled eggs and they're perfect...EVERY. TIME. Great gift for beginners as well as those wanting successful and basic go-to techniques to elevate your cooking. Love this book!
Good explanations.
It is good for first try to cook. There's an explain how to cut food. As you know if you really first time to cook it is really confuse how can I cut this vegetable? Also cooking level is good for kids. My cousin, she wants to make some food so I bought this book for her. She loves it.
Awesome recipes for children!
My two grand boys and I had Camp Grandma and we cooked all week. They got to pick out the recipes from this book and every one of them tasted wonderful! They are excited to try the recipes we didn't get to. I highly recommend this book for children.
Great book for a curious child who wants to help in the kitchen!
My 9 yrs old daughter originally checked this book out from our local library. And it had so much information for her that she fell in love with the book. Its shows how to make certain cuts, it teaches different basics, and it has some really good recipes. As an adult I go through it and I'm thoroughly pleased with the way the presented information and the layout for a learning child. Great book!
Recommended!
My teenager and pre teen love this book. They have cooked almost every recipe. We usually have to triple or double when they cook dinner for us (4). They are able to make food for the two of them without supervision. These recipes are just the right length and help avoid kitchen fatigue.
Great purchase
I am so glad I got that book. When everything on the phone ( including recipes) I am happy that my kids have a BOOK that they can use to cook. If you trying to keep your kids away from screens buy that book and God bless your heart !
Great book for Kids
We borrowed this book from the library and my 10 y/o daughter loved it so much that she saved up to buy her own copy. She's made us a few recipes, which are delicious. She loves the food she prepares, but she mostly loves that she can do it all herself.
Great way to start the learning process
I bought this for our 10yr old grandson and we have made a few things out of it. He has enjoyed picking recipes to try (we will be fixing a family meal together with his picks). It is well laid out and we walk through it step by step. Provides lots of teachable moments and a great foundation to cooking.
Our 10 year old grand daughter chef loved it.
This is a perfect book for someone who is learning to cook and desperately wants independence while doing it. Lots of great recipes and clear instructions. The recipient of this literally squealed when she opened it.
Must Buy!!!
I bought this for my nephew, he is 12. He LOVES the cook book! He made the family breakfast this morning, Eggs and Avocado on toast. On a scale 1-5, my sister is giving the cook book a 10! Must Buy.
Wish we know this book was not a VEGAN cook book
When we searched VEGAN cook book for youth, this book showed up in the list as the best seller. But after we got this book, It includes non vegan cooking recipes. We are disappointed. The book itself looks wonderful otherwise.
Great book for kids!
This is a great recipe book for kids! It’s easy to follow and has good recipes! My children were able to cook this recipe with very minimal help from me! Really all I did was read out instructions so they could just focus on the cooking. They love this book!
Best cook book for my 11 year old.
After reading the reviews, I ordered this book for my 11 year old daughter. She is just leaning to cook and this book awesome!! The recipes have pictures and if there is something that my daughter has not done before the cookbook will show you how to do it. It would be an awesome cookbook for adults who are just starting to cook.
Great!
Bought this for my niece (age 6) and she absolutely adores it! Even my sister was learning from it! It’s great healthy recipes (check the recipes before you buy though because it’s not food for everyone) and they lay it out in a way that’s encouraging and stimulating instead of treating kids like they’re stupid.
Best Kid’s Cookbook
My boys love to cook, and we have so many “kid” cookbooks. This is the best one out there, hands-down. Beginner and intermediate recipes. Not just for sugary sweets. Great general cooking tutorials. And my kids have liked everything they’ve made from it.
Great for Beginners but Missing a Few Golden Nuggets
Great book for beginner home cooks who may also be picky eaters. Easy to follow instructions and informative. That said, I do think they missed the mark a little...the shredded chicken recipe when followed exactly is tough/chewy - it did not include ponding, marinating or brining. I threw out the entire batch. I will try again but PREP the chicken first.
Excellent starting cook book for my 9 and 11 year old girl.
Got this book for my 11 year old bday gift box. She absolutely loves it and has cooked a few things from it so far and it has been great. I like the sturdy cover, easy to read directions, and colorful images. Recomend.
Wonderful book for a young chef!
I scanned the book and found several tips that were helpful to me!! I got it for my nine-year-old grandniece, who is intersted in learning how to cook. There are several catgories of recipes along with techniques and cooking tips. I also purchased a kids' knife set that was recommended in the book. I wish I had something like this when I was growing up.
Amazing
I got this cookbook for my niece she's really into cooking right now the recipes are easy for her to read and understand she is 10 years old and she is more interested in cooking now and it gives her a lot of safety instructions and how to use tools like knives and how to use the pots and pans there's a lot of great recipes at taste amazing
Great buy!
Finally. A book that covers basics. Grilled cheese. Eggs. Etc. And a little more complex too. MasterChef Jr book was a bad choice. Waaaaay complex and for kids that are experienced and for late ts that can afford expensive fine foods. But this book is simpler and good for a beginner :)
Great for beginners and beyond
This is a really great cook book full of a wide variety of family friendly recipes. There is good intro information about cooking basics, picking ingredients and cooking tools. I am very pleased with this book and will be gifting this for a niece. She will love the independence of learning to cook food that she will enjoy!
Great Gift for a Kid who has Everything
Very nice cookbook which seemed to go over well with the teen boy recipient. He has already made some dishes a few days after receiving it. I liked the cookbook so much I was tempted to order one for myself.
Great cook book for beginners
I have ATK cook books but when looking for a book for my kids it seemed like they needed something easy to follow. Someone noted there were errors but I didn't see anything that popped out. There was a mention of too much chili powder, but chili powder is a spicy but doest have much heat. I think maybe lack of experience with the product was the issue with that one. But again great cookbook
Fun recipes for real food
Fantastic recipes for kids. Easy to follow, and a nice blend of typical kid-food recipes; as well as recipes for kids that eat more than just typical kid food. Includes great descriptions of needed kitchen techniques too.
I want to COOK!!!
This is such an AWESOME book! It encourages and entices kids to want to cook. It is filled with basic to unique recipes. The explanations and demonstrations on subsequent pages are the best features.
Great Cookbook for Little Ones
My mom bought the book for her great-granddaughter and she liked it. She's smart and will follow the step-by-step recipes. The book is well explained for little ones with pictures and hence easy to follow.
Great cookbook for kids!
I bought this for my 10 year old son who loves to cook, as part of his cooking supplies Christmas gifts. He loves it! Lots of easy recipes for him to try :) Now he doesn't have to keep getting the same 2 cookbooks from the school library like he has for the last 3 months lol Definitely worth the money!
Beautiful pictures and great techniques shown
My 11 year old granddaughter absolutely lives this cookbook and is cooking her way through it during the quarantine!
One little Chef coming up!
Bought this book for a foster kid who has a love for cooking ( now that she is in a home with food ). Easy to follow instructions. She is going to love it!
Great book for kids
My 8 year old has made a lot of recipes from this book and overall it has been a great learning experience for her. She has cooked us glazed salmon, beef stir fry, homemade hot choc, lemonade, strawberry shortcake, cupcakes and all were good so far. We did the tofu recipe too but I had to do the stove work as the hot oil spitting out of the pan was too dangerous and even I got a little burn! Hoping she’ll eventually make all the recipes. Right now she is only doing about one a week.
I recommend this cook book!
I got this for my 10 year old for Christmas along with measuring cups of her own and an apron. Best gift hands down! All she wasn’t to do is cook and we all love the recipes in this book and I like how it’s easy for her to read and gives her so much independence! I definitely recommend this cook book!
Great kids cookbook
My 7y/o and I loved the ATK kids podcast, so I surprised her with this cookbook. We’ve made several things so far and they’ve been pretty good. The banana bread recipe is hands down the best banana bread recipe I’ve ever tried.
Damaged on arrival
The book is fine other than the fact that there's water damage on every single page and the front cover is dirty. It's too late to send it back now because it's for Christmas.
Young Chef Cookbook
This young chef cookbook is perfect for ages 9 through young adults. My youngest granddaughter is enjoying all the recipes. Every ingredient is listed and the illustrations are great!
My daughter LOVES this!
My 9 year old daughter LOVES this cookbook. She's begun making a meal for us each Sunday and does it almost entirely on her own. The recipes are straightforward and clear, and also direct kids when to ask for help (like getting things out of ovens, etc). She also has gluten and dairy allergies and she has still been able to make or modify many of the recipes in this book.
Easy to use for a young chef
My 7 year old loves this book. She has been having such a good time making us dinners. She is confident enough to do things without supervision, but she is doing the cooking on her own.
Good for budding young chefs!
My 7yr old daughter ATE this UP! She loved the book so much! It made her feel like a "real" chef and she's already made two of the recipes in it. The family loved them! Very simple instructions to follow but still helps them learn real technique. Highly recommend.
Best Christmas present!
I bought this for my 12 year old daughter for Christmas this year. It is well constructed and I have no doubt it will last her many years of hard use in the kitchen. She absolutely loved it and has made us several meals out of the recipes on her own. The instructions are clear and well written for older children.
Not for those under 10 yo.
You need to be with your child and set down some safety rules before diving into this. Not hard to do, but potentially dangerous for uninitiated. Great illustrations and directions.
A Triple Success!
My nine-year-old grandson is happy with his gift, and his mom is impressed with the layout and how easy it is to understand and follow. He made lunch for his mom and dad the day the cookbook arrived! I call this a triple success...happy grandson impressed mom, and successful, tasty lunch!
Great Book
This cookbook is outstanding. Not only does it have recipes but it has teaching sections as well such as knife handling skills. I cannot wait to go through the whole cookbook with my grandchildren.
Great Book!
This is book is very attractive, engaging, and informative. I bought it for my teenage boy. Be sure to see the video I attached.
Independent cooking for kids
My boys have enjoyed this book. It teaches basics like how to dice in a way that they can complete a recipe without needing help. My 3rd and 5th graders can both use this with minimal assistance.
Great cookbook for young chefs
My 11 year future chef loves having her own cookbook to refer to. She likes that the recipes are easy to follow and that each recipe has a picture. She's made several items and her confidence has greatly increased.
Worth it
Definitely worth the purchase. Cooking class for my kid is not gonna happen this year bc of covid. But this book explains the basics and puts it into play with the recipes.
The best junior cookbook, daughter and granddaughter approved!
My granddaughter was so excited to receive this and made us food for our tea party. My daughter was so impressed with the detail and helps the young people things they need to know to be a good cook. Very pleased.
Great cookbook for beginners
Bought for 12 year old and she has made almost all the recipes. This is her first cookbook and she is able to follow the recipes. Recipes are really good and original.
Great kids cookbook
I love the variety and carefully chosen recipes for this book. My daughter has picked out a bunch she would like to make with me. Great photos too help with recipe selection.
May come used.
Disappointed it arrived looking used. The hardback front cover had smears all over it and one of the corners was crushed exposing the brown board. This is for a gift so it's too late to return or exchange in time.
Buy it!
My 9 and 10 year olds have been cooking dinner from this amazing beginner cookbook. Tonight was chicken tacos and Mexican street corn. The tacos were not only colorful, but delicious and the corn was some of the best I have ever had. If you want easy weeknight dinners, have kids that like to cook or want to improve your skills in the kitchen I highly recommend this book!
A definite must have for kids!
Awesome book for getting my 8 year old introduced to the culinary world. It has simple recipes and explains basic and important fundamentals of working in a kitchen. A definite must have!
The Complete Cookbook for Young Chef
Bought as a gift for my two young grandsons who have both developed a hankering for cooking! This will be their first “real” cookbook. I think they will like it!
