The Art of Uncharted 4: A Thief's End

I don't know what it is about this artbook, but to me it seemed a little bit low on content. I was certainly expecting more breathtaking art pieces and vistas of the beatiful environments in this game, but what I got instead was a 190 page artbook filled with character illustrations mostly. Not what I expected, especially after the The Last of Us artbook or more recent stuff from Naughty Dog, the Uncharted trilogy artbook. It is most definitely a quality artbook, but doesn't really reach the heights of such artbooks like The Evil Within, Wolfenstein New Order or the massive Fallout 4 artbook. It's still five stars, Dark Horse Books never disappoints, but as I said the artbook is really lacking some environmental art content.

Great collection of paintings and sketches and goes into interesting depth about the character and environment-driven process of making the game. This is my favorite game of all time and it was very neat to look behind its curtain. Naughty Dog, please consider re-printing the Uncharted trilogy art book sometime.

Great behind the scenes companion to an amazing game. If you were impressed with lush forests, rocky terrain of Madagascar, mysterious islands, chilly Scotland or posh Italian Riviera this is a must have reference to how those locations came into their digital life. Captions and comments throughout the book could be a little bit more descriptive in my opinion. I'm not only interested which artist produced the concept, but also about the story behind that concept. This was done in a better way in Art of the Uncharted Trilogy. Since I also own Kindle version of the book, I feel that one can greatly benefit from better resolution of the pages. I don't care if that will increase file size considerably. Current amount of detail is okay, so don't let the perfectionist in me deter you from getting the digital version if you want that one.

I have all the Art books for the Uncharted series and this one does not disappoint. Like almost all Naughty Dog related books that cover their in game images it is incredible to realize the hard work and imagination it takes to bring the game to life. And as usual the text is interesting and gives deeper insights to the games creation. A truly valuable companion to the game.

I got this for Christmas, and it's the perfect collectible for fans of Uncharted 4, or the whole series in general. Would highly recommend. There's also great content about the characters and their backstories, and how Sam's character came about. Loved it!

The quality of this book is as amazing as the talented art it displays. The team at Naughty Dog really have what it takes to make incredible interactive experiences!

One of the best videogame art book ever!

Uncharted is probably the reason why I bought a Playstation. I remember being mesmerised by the world in Uncharted as I trekked through the jungle looking for a way out. To me, this is the most immersive game in terms of plot, direction and character development. I'm looking at the artbook for the final game and I've not played the game yet. But all those emotional feelings I felt while playing the earlier games are coming back to me. It's like coming out of the cinema after a wonderful movie and the mind is still playing back the scenes. As I looked through the pages of art, I could feel that this last game is going to be an emotional ride. This 176-page hardcover artbook is published by Dark Horse. Collected within are the development art for the game arranged in chronological order. The artworks are a mix of character designs and environment art. There are a lot of characters throughout the game and you'll get the see Nathan, Sully and Elena in various different clothes, and also the many other characters and enemies. The environment artworks are breathtaking as usual. Every one is good enough to printed out huge and hanged on the wall. I just love the design of the places, towns, Madagascar, Scotland, tropical forests, cove, beaches and underwater. I can see where the artists get their inspiration from, such as the huge stone faces in the middle of the jungle. Those are clearly from the famous stone faces at the Bayon temples in Cambodia. As a gamer, to be able to visit such beautiful places from the comfort of your seat at home is just amazing. For concept artists who want to study how good concept art looks like, you'll get a lot of good reference in this book. I guess the downside is the lack of commentary to accompany the artworks. However, there's a lengthy introduction included right at the front that gives us a recap on how the story and characters have evolved since the first game. This is an excellent companion art book for the fans. To me, it's like looking at a photo book after coming back from a wonderful holiday trip. Many years later when you look back at this book again, it will bring back fond memories. That's what a good story does. Kudos to all those who've worked on this game. Most highly recommended. Be sure to check out all the other Uncharted artbooks too.

I'm a huge Uncharted fan & I was eagerly anticipating this game & all the fun stuff that was to come along with it...this art book included. I'm conflicted though, as Uncharted has been one of my favorite series to play & I'm almost embarrassed to say how sad I am that this series ended. All in all, the art book for Uncharted 4 is good, though not as good as the Uncharted 2 art book, which wasn't even a hardcover but I still like better. I feel like the UC2 book provides a lot more detail & background, whereas the UC4 book feels almost like an afterthought cobbled together because they forgot the deadline or something. The presentation is nice, hardcover, with detailed, mostly full color pages throughout. The page weight is nice too, with an almost matte texture to it, not too glossy, which is good. The beginning has a few of pages of detail & backstory on UC4, and when I say a few, I mean a few, not much was spent on the actual written pieces that went into this art book, that much is obvious. It would've been nice if they had used a larger or at least easier to read font, even better contrast between the page background & the ink color would've been great...I have pretty good eye sight, but for those who don't, the reading in this book might be challenging. You'll need your glasses & every light on in the room due to the publishers color choices for printing it. Also, the content written, was just okay, mostly from Scherr & Druckmanns POV & I'll be honest, I'm not a particularly big fan of Druckmann, UC designer or not. If I have to read one more story about UC4 that references gameplay of TLOU again, I'm going to scream. Druckmann mentions TLOU in the UC4 art book as well. I know TLOU is a huge hit Druckmann worked on & he's proud of it, I liked the game as well on play through, but the constant call backs & name dropping of it in EVERY SINGLE PIECE of UC4 press has been annoying. Even the uncharted 4 art book has it. Do I like this book? I do, but not as much as the UC2 art book or the art of the uncharted trilogy one. It's nice, but not as comprehensive as the others. Since this is the last game, I'd have thought a little more effort would've been placed. So, I took a star off for that. I took off another star because there was no final render at the end for Nate when he gets older in the epilogue which was a HUGE oversight in my opinion. They included Cassie & Elena, but not the main character? Since this is the final art concept book, for the final game, this base should've been covered, not skipped. Nate's the main protagonist for goodness sake, why would they leave out the final render for the main character? Especially after including a final render for EVERY OTHER version of Nate & his wardrobe choices from The Malaysia Job chapter to Scotland, The villa, I could go on & then they leave out one of the most important one? The depiction of our hero at the end? I couldn't believe it when it wasn't there. They held off on the release of this book until game launch, because presumably, the art would give away a lot, and yes, the addition of Cassie at the end definitely would. But the concept art for Nate in the epilogue wouldn't offer many clues as to how much Nate aged, though the age of is daughter clued one in...still with no final render of Nate, you know along with the ones supplied for Cassie AND Elena, all the reader has to suppose Nates aging are some concept art. And while I appreciate their inclusion, as well as the other promo pieces at the end, I think you could've skipped a few of these & put in a page of older Nate's final render for the book. It was shocking to me that this was left out, this is the final chapter for Nate & Co. with loads of emphasis on the characters growth, closing out the series & they leave out the final render of the main character? Massive fail.

Not what I expected. Not bad, but I was expecting chapters dedicated to modeling and materials.. I was especially expecting to see more on their substance usage, but it was dedicated to concept art:/

I brought this book because I'm a big fan of the Uncharted series, especially this game. I wasn't quite sure what to expect (artwork, obviously) but I was very pleasantly surprised. There's lots of different artwork of characters and environments, and there's also text explaining about some of the art and the thinking behind them. The thing I liked about this book and its content was that you also get final renders of the character models so you can see how they went from concept to final result. Also, as I've seen some artwork from the Bonus section of Uncharted 4, I thought I was going to see more of the same, but I saw some artwork I hadn't seen before, like more concept art of Rafe, for example. Generally, I'm very happy with my purchase and pleased that I got this, as a fan of the series.

Nothing in this book grabbed me too much. I'm a fan of coffee table art books in general and the Uncharted series in particular and the artwork is clearly very good but it's far from my favourite art book available.

Being a massive fan of the series, I had to own this book. Like the other dark horse art books out there, it is packed with tons of art/ideas and insight into the development of the game.

If you are a fan of uncharted games and love to collect artbooks then it’s a must own for you. The quality of the book is top notch. And for the price it goes in sometimes, is an absolute bargain. I got it for 500 inr from Amazon, it goes even lower sometimes.

Anfangs sind einige interessante Interviews/Einblicke zur Entstehung des Spiels (auf Englisch). Ansonsten gibt es passend zu den Kapiteln im Spiel auch die Artworks. Umgebungen, Ideen zu Szenen oder Personen. Es sind auch einige CGI Shots dabei, damit man das Endergebnis, welche es dann ins Spiel geschafft hat, sehen kann. Schade ist nur, dass es keine grossen Bilder gibt die über Doppelseiten gehen, sondern eben viele Kleine, aber das ist Mäkeln auf hohem Niveau. Das Buch an sich wirkt gut verarbeitet. Man sieht nicht gleich Fingerabdrücke, wenn man es in die Hand nimmt. Die Schrift vorne drauf ist etwas erhaben und glänzend. Das Bild von Nathan fand ich schon auf dem Spielecover so beeindruckend, auf dem Buch werden die Details erst richtig sichtbar.

This book is AMAZING! every single picture blew my mind, its a MUST HAVE for Uncharted fans! About the shipping, it was fast, it arrived 1 day early. One of the corners is a LITTLE BIT broken so it would maybe be a good idea to stuff the box a little bit so the book would move less! there is also a weird line on the front of the book but its not a scratch, it look like something the protecting plastic did so its no one's fault! i am VERY glad of this purchase, thank you so much!

I live for the product! However amazon shipped me a book and it’s slighty off / tilted book edge almost like it was stored squished awkwardly, so I definitely expect them to take better care of collectors products like this. Thankfully it doesn’t ruin the book pages it just stands up slightly tilted on my shelf. Naughty dog makes the most incredible books! And if you loved the games you’ll love this book. I also suggest the trilogy book of the first 3 games if you can get your hands on it.

Produit conforme et de bonne qualité. Néanmoins, l'emballage était un peu léger. La boite en carton qui le contenait était trop grande et il y avait à l'intérieur trop peu de protections de bulles plastiques. Le livre était mal calé et pendant le transport, les coins de couvertures se sont pliés avec les chocs malgré leur épaisseur. En dehors de ça, c'est un bel ouvrage.

I love Uncharted series that why i bought this artbook. The quality of the binding and paper is great. Only problem is the packaging was not sufficient to protect the corner of this book.

Livro muito bom pra quem aprecia as artes conceituais e um pouco mais sobre as escolhas artísticas aplicado ao jogo. Tirei uma estrela porque infelizmente o livro veio danificado já que a embalagem utilizada não apresentava qualquer tipo de proteção apenas enrolaram em um papelão, mas isso é um erro da Amazon.

Absolut toll. Hier wird eine Vielzahl an Bildern geboten, von denen man als Student wirklich sehr gut lernen kann. Besonders im Bereich Matte Paining sind hier wirklich schöne Concept Art Szenen dabei. Kann ich nur empfehlen.

O livro detalha as paisagens, os personagens (mesmo os secundários), a mitologia. Vale a pena. Naughty Dog é excepcional e se preocupa com todo e qualquer detalhe.

I bought a used one which was stated as "like new" but the book arrived with full of scratches and the colors are washed out. I've bought used books before, mostly with minor imperfections but not like this one.

Completely full of character and environment concept work by a small team of talented artists. Was pretty blown away by it and highly recommend it if you collect art books or are curious to see refined and detailed artwork behind the game.

No sé que ha ocurrido con el envío de productos de amazon EEUU desde que comenzó el año, ya llevo como 5 o 6 libros de pasta dura que me llegan muy maltratados. Esto ni siquiera es de una paquetería en específico, pues ya sea DHL, estafeta o UPS, los productos llegan en extremo dañados.

By far my favorite in the uncharted series... Although I'm very sad to see the end of Nate's adventures. This was a very beautiful game and a very satisfying end to it all.
