A masterpiece of dance photography
This book is filled with stunning images of dancers that are The images in this book are truly art. I would be happy to hang them as huge prints above my fireplace. They are captivating to behold. The lighting is exquisite; it naturally enhances the beauty and form of the dancers without drawing attention to itself. I want to compliment the posing, but it’s not posing. The dancers are in motion, and always captured at the perfect arc of the movement. I can only imagine all the work behind the scenes to create this masterpiece. These authors also including numerous male dancers in the book and the men are treated with the same grace and attention to detail as their female counterparts. Many ballet sources focus more on the females, which is understandable, who doesn’t admire a beautiful, talented ballerina en pointe in a flowing gown? But it is refreshing to have a group of gentlemen dancers presented with such sophistication. The authors have a ballerina in the family and it shows. They understand the technical excellence demanded by ballerinas. A dancer’s feet, hands, legs, shoulders, knees everything must be in the proper form to meet their incredible standards. To the outsider, the image simply looks graceful, lovely and even natural. But if the dancer’s hand had the appearance of holding a hamburger or the foot was curved in instead of delicately pointed out, every dancer who beheld the image would have groaned with despair. I can’t imagine any dancer looking at this book with anything but appreciation. Some of the images show the dancer in movement and the gown gracefully in the air complementing the movement. It’s so perfect it looks like a sculpture. I can’t help but wonder how it was all so perfectly achieved. The athleticism of the dancers shows through in many images, but is a soft after note of the image. I’ve seen dance photography where the dancer looks like a body builder and it’s a little frightening. This is delicate and enhances the visual story. I was ecstatic when my hard copy arrived in the mail. I had preordered it, and I just preordered the Kindle version that comes out next month. I want to have the book with me when I travel. It’s that kind of book, the one where you give it as a gift, and have more than one copy yourself. Congratulations to the authors and dancers. This is a magnificent body of work and reflects well upon the world of dance and photography. It is a masterpiece.
Astonishing but cool
All the rest here give it five stars, which convinced me to purchase it, nor do I regret that decision--unquestionably gorgeous photography, especially in terms of lighting, but also in terms of poses and dress. Beauty and drama in abundance. But there is a "however", and this is it: All these photos have a "detached coolness" about them, like the photos you find in the shoe or leotard ads in Dancemagazine or Pointe. Thus the photos astonish more than they move--shaken, not stirred. "Too much perfection." I would like to have seen some sweat, even a lot of sweat. If you buy it, you're gonna wind up viewing it at a distance--can't be helped.
Incredibly Moving
This is a masterful and loving tribute to the art of ballet. Deborah Ory and Ken Browar capture the passion, majesty, beauty, and glory of stellar contemporary ballet dancers, from a diverse range of companies and countries. The book includes quotes from many of the dancers, providing a look into the hearts and souls of world-class dancers. Dance is all about movement, so it can be a challenge to capture its essence with still photographs, but Deborah's and Ken's photos more than succeed. I have a large collection of ballet photography books, and this one leaps boldly to the top of the list of the best. Thank you!
Disappointed
I bought this as a gift for a teen dancer. From the cover, I was expecting more color photos of female dancers. There were many smaller black and white photos of male dancers. This would have been ok but there were quite a few photos of just close-ups of the dancer's body. I would have preferred more in-motion photos. Planning to return.
For those who appreciate dance or dance photography
As an aspiring dance photographer I had to have this book. And I'm so glad I picked it up. As soon as it arrived I've been pouring over the images, first with a bird's eye view and now looking at the details of each shot. It's been truly inspiring. I use in constantly in my own shoots with dancers. We review some images that I think might be good for them, and that gives them inspiration, and then we make the shot their own, with their own personalities coming through. The book is high quality with great shots in multiple dance genres throughout. Whether your a fan of dance, dance photography, the study of movement, or just fascinating images, this is a perfect book.
The content is WONDERFUL, the condition is okay
I bought a "very good" condition version, which I think was a little open to interpretation, but it'll be alright. Seller said "some overall wear from reading, has a few creases." The cover has many, many bends and the edges have entirely lost their crispness. There is an especially large wrinkle through the entire middle of the front cover... Sad, because it was going to be a centerpiece. But the inner pages are great and the content is truly beautiful. A great visual feast and definitely worth keeping close to just LOOK AT IT.
Stunning
I was rendered breathless by this book. The photography takes second place to the movement but it is stunningly well done, so well done that you are not immediately aware of it. I wondered how many times the dancer and the photographer duplicated the same movement to get that one perfect shot. Of course the movement, captured in the one perfect instant, is the reason for the book. If you love dance in all its many incarnations, you will love this book. And if you are a photographer, it will give you something to shoot for, no pun intended.
everything and everyone in this book is beautiful and will make your eyes and soul happy
Gorgeous book by Ken Browar and his wife, Deborah Ory. They've been working on this photographical wonder for years, and it shows. The shots are otherworldly, some captured with the dancer seemingly in flight by way of imaginary wings. Lines, colours, everything and everyone in this book is beautiful and will make your eyes and soul happy.

An astonishing book.Beyond all expectations
I was so happy I waited till I had time to thoroughly absorb this book. It is amazing. Beyond my highest expectations. The photography was extraordinary. It was like they were flying through air. And to my surprise, I loved the quotes by so many of the artists. I am not a ballerina and I was so amazed by their art, their commitment, what they have gone through to be where they are today.

A heavy, beautiful book with stunning images of ballet dancers looking as if they will leap off the pages before you. I have to praise the photographer for the work they did. Rarely has ballet been captured so well in photographs, especially the sense of dynamic movement, grace, and agility. It's well worth the price. Highly recommended, even fro a casual fan.
Breathtaking photos!
Absolutely breathtaking photos! Great quotes. The book itself is larger than I anticipated, but once I opened it up, I gasped at the brilliance of the images and I’m glad they are full size! I love a coffee table book that has more to look at than read, and this is perfectly proportioned. A wonderful collaboration of artists, this gorgeous book is a must for any photography or dance enthusiast!
Beautiful!
A gorgeous book of photos and quotes from dancers! Dancers, those who don't dance, and lovers of photography, will all appreciate it. The dress on the cover is amazing!
Dance images at their finest.
Provides a great opportunitiy to see dancers in movement, up close. Beautiful pictures.
beautiful photos
I loved this book. The dancers' grace and captured movements were exceptional. The lighting was perfect. And the clothes shown are wonderful.
Very highly recommend!!! A book of gorgeous photos of gorgeous dancers!!!
I have not been this excited to receive a book since the last Harry Potter! Deborah Ory and Ken Browar are photo geniuses who are able to perfectly capture the joy and beauty of dance through some of the best dancers on the planet!! The Art of Movement is very aptly titled! This generously sized book is a must-have for dance/ballet lovers everywhere!!
The art of capturing movement
I just received the book today and am blown away by the images. The photographs not only capture the beauty and grace of the dancers, but also highlight their incredible athleticism. This book wI'll be appreciated by anyone that appreciates the beauty of the human form.
WOW!
This book is stunning and unique, the photography will take your breathe away! I bought this as an artist for reference material and now have it on display for everyone to enjoy! A true masterpiece of images!
Gorgeous Pictures
A must if you are an artist, a dancer or someone who admires both! Love this book! Would Highly recommend.
The most AWESOME book I ever purchased d from Amazon
The most AWESOME book I ever purchased d from Amazon. The photos are Mind Blowing. The book is worth the money I spent on it and I live in Australia.. Absolutelly amazing book.. Looking forward for more books like this one..
Don't think twice, one of the most amazing books I have in my ballet book collection!!!!! Already can't wait for the part 2!!!!
All the pictures (I can't even call them pictures because they are so real, full of movement and air) are so so beautiful! The quality is just perfect!!!! I would say that it's a one of the kind ballet books
Magical!
What a feast for the eyes! Beautifully done and extremely artistic. I have enjoyed this book so much, I've given it to others that enjoy art of dance. It's one of my coffee table books that gets opened again and again - each photograph is mesmerizing!
Beautiful!
I bought this as a Christmas gift for my parents after seeing it online months ago. They absolutely loved it. Such a beautiful book. I may have to follow it up the Fashion and Dance edition.

This was a Christmas gift for our granddaughter who was delighted with the book as we were also. The book is really a coffee table book with wonderful illustrations and very good short statements of what it means to dance.
Beautiful
Wow! These photos of these spectacular athletes are incredible. Beautiful book!
Beautiful Book
This is a very beautiful book with stunning photos.
Expectations
The book is everything I expected it to be. I've seen the documentary about the making of the book. The photographer(s), the balletdancers (who had to do the jumps over and over again, until the photographer was satisfied), all the people around them. They all made it possible to create such a beautiful book. It took a while before I could order it (it was sold out very fast, and I had to wait Some months), but it was worth waiting for. So from Holland with love........
Got this for my ballerina, who loves it. ...
Got this for my ballerina, who loves it. Don't know if the beauty comes most from the dancers, the costumes, or the photos, but the end result is stunning.
Gorgeous!
This is a really gorgeous book and beautiful where it sits on display in my living room. I am so glad I indulged and purchased it. I will treasure it for years to come.
Five Stars
Love it. Just love it. The photos are amazing and so are all the dancers.
Beautiful Coffee table book
Beautiful Coffee table book. Outstanding photography. My wife is a former ballerina and now teaches ballet and she loves it.

Will please any lover of beauty. And the dancers inspire.
Great quality photos
The pages are clean and neat. The only thing is the cover flaps around the book are a little tattered and has small rips BUT the important thing is the content. Great quality photos.

Nice Book
Got this as a gift. Terrific quality and content. Very nice.
A great collection that captures what I love about dance.
Grace, motion and power are captured through a full range of dancers, costumes and poses. All nicely and artfully done. These dancers are athletes that also possess the discipline and grace to make what they do seem effortless.

Fast delivery but the book was damaged...
Very fast delivery. The book was damaged. For a book like that, I expected the book to be better protected. It wasn't even in blister pack.
Are you ready for abs and bulges?
Females are mostly in dresses. Males are mostly near-nude. Its about 50/50 female to male. Also the packaging is garbage, book is already damaged along the covers.
A must buy for lovers of the art of dance!
Simply beautiful!
Splendid!
Wow just lovely. Not only are the images beautiful but offer a superb study of human anatomy!

A Ballet and Photography Fan's Delight
Such a beautiful book - a delight for both photography and ballet fans. However, I wish it had an index so I could more easily find my favorite dancers.

Parents beware...
Book quality and photography is superb if you are rating skill level of dancers and photographers. However, some photos are very seductive and have some mild nudity.I bought this for my teen daughter for Christmas, who loves everything ballet. Glad I looked through it before I gave it to her. I love ballet, but I am tired of dancers doing anything for the sake of "art". In their defense, there are some beautiful pictures of famous dancers that are appropriate for all ages. I do not recommend this for young dancers.
Best book of dance
This is by far the best book I have seen on photographing dancers. The pictures beautifully portray the movement and tension of dance. I would say the every photo has a "Wow" factor and maintains the excitement over what will appear on the next page.
Perfect gift!
Bought this for my grandmas bday and she was in love with it. It’s beautiful sitting on her coffee table. Makes an excellent and unique gift!
Gorgeous!
I gifted this book to my friend for her birthday and she loved it. I did browse through it before wrapping it and the pictures were absolutely gorgeous.

Masterpiece of dance photograpy, but unfortunately damaged due to poor wrapping.
This is a masterpiece of dance photography. My only complaint is that given the type of book I would have expected a better wrapping/box. The book was slightly damaged. Next time I spend this much money for a book it will be in a normal book shop where I can see the state of the book before I buy it.
What a beautiful book...
For art lovers this is a beautiful book using quality paper.
Mottled grey and plié!
Beautiful photographs but lacks variety as a good proportion of the photos are taken against the same large mottled grey background. It’s obviously the photographers style but feels formulaic. Not as inspirational as I was hoping.
Beautiful Book
Beautiful book of dance images. I bought this from the perspective of a photographer and was very impressed with all of the images in the book.

A must for any dancer or ballet aficionado!
This book has the most eye-catching collection of ballet photographs! What a beautiful coffee table book featuring some of today's biggest names in ballet. I just couldn't wait for the holidays, I had to purchase it and treat myself right away upon its release. That being said, it would be the BEST gift for any dancer or ballet fan. Worth every penny. It's a piece that will only become more precious as the years pass: a ballet time capsule.
The art of movement
Muchas gracias y feliz año nuevo Amaia

Recomendo.
Amazing Images!
I absolutely loved this book! The talent of the Dancers and the Photographers; this is truly stunning work!!

Fantastischer Bildband
Großartiges Buch. Fantastische Fotos, dienen mir zu Inspiration, zum malen.
A great photographic portrayal of dance.
A beautiful book. Through the use of still photos, the artistry and movement of dance is wonderfully portrayed.

Beautiful
Beautiful book. Bought as a gift for my niece. She loved it. This book was a little to mature for her but non the less it has amazing photography.
Excelente libro
Best dance photography
Incredible book!!
Es un libro excelente!!!
Un deleite cada página

It's hurts me to give this beautiful book two stars when it is so deserving of five. The book came terribly packaged and damaged. The dust cover was crumpled and featured an unsightly rip along the spine of it. The hard cover of the book itself is peppered with dents due to malicious handling. It's really quite a shame as the dust cover is so beautifully illustrated. Massive shame and I'm very strongly disappointed.
