Amazing Book

I've always wanted to read an in-depth book on LGBT and sexualities and genders of all sorts. I'm a lesbian and have only recently discovered my sexuality a little over a year ago, so I immediately flocked to this book. I finished it in two days, which is a record for me. First, it has its own dictionary and glossary. The author really put a lot of work into this book and defined everything they thought readers wouldn't understand at first. Each term is talked about and explained thoroughly throughout the book. Within this book are personal accounts of the author and other real people who share their experiences. Everything is divided up into sections with their own chapters to keep clarification. There's so much to learn. LGBT is only a bit of what this book explains. I thought I knew all there was to know about my sexuality and others, but this book taught me that there's more. It even explains on what is sensitive and appropriate to say to people, and encourages people to be who they are, whoever that may be. I recommended this book to a friend. It's definitely a must-read for anyone who is conflicted on their sexuality or gender. It's been months since I've read it but it still sticks with me.

Well-written, and good to read all the way through!

Ash, you know you did good! I'm so pleased with this book. As a nonfiction, I was afraid I wouldn't be entertained, but this is actually a book that I enjoy sitting down and reading through. I've only read the first section and it's already helped me learn more about my own identity as well as others, even though I consider myself to know a LOT about the lgbtqia+ community. It also really helps to see different faces from the community and hear what they have to say. It's even more reassuring when I agree with them! I haven't disagreed with a single thing in this book so far and I don't think there's anything Ash has left out. It's very well done, accurate, and the wording is precise. Fantastic work, Ash. This book will be passed down for generations in my family. From me, to my (currently 10 months old) kiddo, to my kiddo's kiddos. Just trying to spread the love and acceptance.

Comprehensive, explanatory, and overall lovely, this book ...

Comprehensive, explanatory, and overall lovely, this book dives deep into the variety of identities which exist outside the narrow view of the mainstream media. I can't wait to share this with my friends! I hope they learn as much as I have.

Exactly What I Needed

This book is a wonderful guide through the complexities of identity. As a future sex therapist and educator, only at the start of my journey, I really needed an overview of what identities exist within the LGBTQIA+ community. I must admit, I was hesitant to read this book at first. I felt somehow that I wasn’t ready enough. Like I had to be more of an ally, I had to be gayer than I am, etc. but instead I realized that all I had to do was sit and listen. It helped to not only broadened my perspective on my own sexuality/identity, but also it made me really want to start listening to more people’s stories. I’m glad that it wasn’t just a dictionary of definitions, but instead a compilation of experiences as well as vocabulary. Since reading I’ve felt like I can be more immersed in LGBTQIA+ spaces than I used to feel I could. I feel a lot freer that way, and excited to learn more! I’m sure since the book’s publishing there have been a whole host of changes within the community, but this was an excellent start. If you’re doubting buying this book, I wouldn’t second guess yourself. It’s well worth the read. I wish I had something like this years ago

Perfect for beginners and more experienced readers

Really helpful book! Because there are so many terms, this is perfect for both beginners and people with experience within the LGBTQ+ world. The author uses language that is easy to understand and includes excerpts from people with the identity that's being explained. I wasn't so sure I'd learn something new since I knew a lot of terms, but I definitely learned about a few new terms and I also understood some other terms better. It helped me understand my own identity as well, and not be so hard on myself about not "fitting in" perfectly with what I thought was the identity. I definitely recommend this to everyone who is open to learning more about LGBTQ+ terms!

Easy to Read and Powerful

Ash uses accessible language and stories in order to make labels and identities within the LGBTQ community understandable! They highlighted various sexual and romantic orientations and gender identities through research, discussion and the voices of others who were willing to share their own experiences. There are also adorable illustrations and self reflection activities. All in all, it really makes you stop and think about the complexities of the human experience. I absolutely loved it!!

The perfect introduction to gender nonconformity!

As the go- to nonbinary person in my friends group, I get every single question about the enby/ trans community, and people asking me how they can be allies to the lgbt+ people in their lives. THIS is the book I tell everyone to start with. This book covers pretty much EVERYBODY in a very clear, very simple, very positive way! It does *not* offer great detail on any identity however- think of this book as the perfect introduction to deeper reading, and great for anyone who is exploring their identity, or to whom the LGBT+ community is a foreign thing.

Enjoyed it and informative, well done!

This books was very informative, but also held your attention. The fact its somewhat interative in the sense of you writing down, I think it was gender and gender expression, really made it fun. Made me really understnad myself and others of the community that use expressions that I wasn't exactly sure what they were. Also that it had not only the author's own experience, it had others as well. Every description and definition was easy to understand. The book is also pretty colorful with its comics here and there! I really enjoyed it, awesome job, Ash! - From a fellow Ash!

It's great for those who need an insight on the LGBTQ+ community or those that are struggling to figure out their own identity. I personally loved this book! It's an easy read and I love all the illustrations. I'm still very sure of how I identify but this book helped me understand and find out about other identities. I've had this book for a while now and I've lent it to 3 of my friends who were curious or questioning and they all loved this book. I'm going to order another book to give it to my local library cause I think it's just such a great resource for people.

A book to make your brain go *pop* (in a good way!)

Really cool and informative! I love to leave it lying around my lounge as a great way to start awesome introspective conversations and bring awareness to non-normative concepts. The pictures, charts and graphs are really happy and clear it's really easy to talk about spectrums and cover grey areas. The tone feels really comfortable and warm and not at all clinical - it's like listening to a knowledgeable friend. Having the glossary at the start was a really neat touch!

The most thoughtful book I have ever purchased.

The author has put together a great deal of information that can be related to easily. Perfect for someone like me trying to understand things about others and relate to things about myself that I have never understood.

Amazing! A great resource for LGBTQ knowledge

Amazing! A great resource for LGBTQ knowledge. The hard work put into this is obvious and very good quality. The many different voices combined in this book make it an excellent source of information!

😍😍😍😍

What can I say about this book that would do it justice? I doubt I can I love this book two bits and pieces plus it was made by one of my favorite Youtubers of all time it is a very informative book I even reccomended it to one of my coworkers even to my mom, and my twin! 🤣😄😊😍 but on top of that I think it is a great book that can help you even understand yourself a little more or can help you understand or find out a ton of different sexualities and genders it's just fantastic all around I like to take it with me to work every day even though I wined up not even taking a break sometime so I may not get to read it at work all the time but I surely have more than enough time to read it at home and I want to thank Ash for making such an awesome book

In love with this book

In love with this book! Already one of the most read books in my little queer household. We have been telling anyone and everyone about it. Having the language for our identities is life changing and this book gave us all of that and more. Also love sharing with straight/cis folks who need some gentle reminders and resources on how to be more respectful. Hope to see more from the author!

Great for coming out individuals and teenz who are trying to navigate identitiy and sexuality.

So far this is a great book very well written/put together and informative, been reading through it, and excited to give it to my 12yr old kiddo for their birthday this weekend who is currently navigating where and how she fits in as a genderqueer bi teenager!

Not Worth your money

Not worth your money, this makes it seem like they are going to tell you all the different lgbt things from a-z, and tell you what it all means, however it's all just different people's stories that ( while inspiring ) aren't what the title of the book made it seem like it was. I wish I could unread it and get my money back

You got to buy this book !!!

This is truely one of the best books out there super filled with wonderful information whether or not you are wanting to learn how to support a friend who is just comeing out. Or if your are thinking. About coming out or if you been part of the LGBTQ family for years I first found out about this book from my local librarian the book was so wonderful I had to buy it after checking it out 15 times !!!

A friend of mine recommended this book so I downloaded it

A friend of mine recommended this book so I downloaded it. And it's great. Very informative and great for me since I am in grad school to be a social worker. It's so important for social worker's to keep up to date on this kind of info.

Very great book

I was really taken by this book and it's information and terminology. This is a great book for anyone wanting to know about there gender or sexuality. I would highly recommend this book to all sexes and genders.

Fun, relatable reference book

An excellent book for getting an authentic description of the changing LBGTQ+ landscape. Ashley's voice and presentation is very welcoming and non-judgmental. Her inclusion of real people in the community help the reader to move LBGTQ+ folks from being "other" to being just neighbors in this wide world. I especially love the fun formatting with photos, drawings, graphics and color to illustrate concepts. Just a fun read to get educated and un-intimidated. I refer back to it often. Highly recommended for all ages.

Not sure how to identify?!

This book is a wonderful resource on gender and sexual identities. Each particular identity is explained and explored usually by the help of someone identifying as that sexuality or gender identity. Great list of resources and further reading listed in back. A good book to give yourself as a gift if you wish to explore this topic further or an excellent resource to give to someone you love. Recommended!

Bought one for my mother and i

Mom always references this book, its a very sweet thing to see the allys in your life take the extra mile to not just accept or tolerate but to understand and love. A wonderful read for all, LGBT+ and cishet !

Compresensive book on queer identities

The most comprehensive book on LGBTQ+ folks I've come across, yet. Good for anyone wanting to educate themselves or others to the queer community. Easy to follow language that's as inclusive as I've seen, going over a wide array of identities.

Great education, great condition and arrived early.

very interesting.....I certainly need an up to date education on issues of sexuality. I want to understand and I don't want to ever offend anyone. The book was new and arrived ahead of schedule. And may we please stop using the term 'sex', when it should be 'gender'.

Great intro to all things LGBT+

Love how indepth this book is. It goes beyond just the first 4 letters of LGBT and even breaks those down as well as all the other letters into their subtypes. It's easy to read and understand and even has snidbits from people who identify with those terms. Such a good read and highly recommend.

Small book, but a tomb

This book is packed to the brim. More of a reference manual than a read through, IMHO. Valuable info.

Great book

This book is good for learning about more sexuality’s and fully understanding the LGBTQ+ community

Can't wait to read this book!

I got this book as a Christmas present to myself, was going to stick it under the tree and say it was from my grandma but I don't think I can wait that long to read it! I'll update once I'm finished reading the book.

Fantastic

Learned a lot from this book. I even learned a thing or two about myself so yay. The book is easy to understand delightfully written and very comprehensive. The personal stories from different people where really helpful in understanding some of the terms and identities that were new to me. Absolutely recommend this!

Really loved this book. My only complaint is that Ash used their self as an example too much, I also felt like the illustrator should have been given more credit, like his name also on the cover. But all in all, it is very cute, very informative, and unlike some educational books, it is easy to follow.

A wonderful guide to gender, sexuality, and identity!

This was so wonderful! A fantastic crash course in LGBT+ terms, identities, and concepts. I consider myself fairly well versed in gender and sexuality but I still learned a ton about identities I had never even heard of before. I love how careful Ashley Mardell was to always make sure she was in conversation with people who identify with the terms she's defining, getting personal anecdotes as often as possible. I also love and really respect how open she was about the information she didn't know, didn't have a source for, or might be wrong about. I mean obviously she did a truly impressive amount of research on this book but since sexuality and gender are such complex topics that mean different things to everyone it's hard to nail down a specific definition that everyone's happy with for a lot of the terms. She was very thorough in making sure to explain all sides of the argument when it came to controversial terms. She was also very open about when she was not in the position to define terms that were not hers and she couldn't find people who DID identify within the community those terms belonged to (specifically this was in regards to gender identities that belong to specific cultures such as two-spirit). She's also very open to discussion about the book and feedback that she can incorporate into a sequel or fix later (maybe in a later edition? Or I think she also has a Tumblr she's set up for any corrections or additions that need to be made). Sexuality and gender are such difficult and complex topics that I have so much respect towards Ashley for taking on this incredible project and being so open to the input of others and criticism. She made it very clear in the book that she was not writing it alone. She had practically an entire army of people helping her edit, fact check, and contributing stories which I think is so, so important in books like this. This is truly a wonderful book and I cannot recommend it enough for anyone who is trying to figure out their own sexuality/gender, trying to find the right label for them, trying to understand a loved one's experiences, or just interested in learning! Seriously, bravo Ashley.

I absolutely adore this book. It is an excellent reference for anyone who wants to know more about LGBT+ identities, whether that person is exploring themselves, trying to become a better ally, had a friend or loved one that recently come out to them, or is just interested in learning about people. A particularly excellent resource for asexual, aromantic, and non-binary identities, coming from someone who IDs as all of these.

I have been watching Ash for a long time and have been watching them grow as a person for a while. When I heard about this book I scrambled to get it ASAP and it did not disappoint. I have learned so many things that I didn't know I wanted to know. Now I am the LGBTQ+ dictionary for my friends which is pretty cool. Thank you so much Ash! <3

Book Wars

When I first came out as bisexual, aunt Nellie began throwing bibles at me. Not in the "Hears what our Lord and Savior says" way. She LITERALLY picked up her bibles, and started throwing them across the room. I was to unable retaliate in any way. But now with this amazing book, I finally have a tome of knowledge that I can chuck back at her. A way to show that sexuality and gender is so much more expanded and beautiful than the old binary ways. 10/10 Would chuck again!

great book

can't put this book down so full of information. I am taking classes in nonprofit management and plan to work with the LGBTQ center so I ordered this book and other books so I can get a better understanding of the community.

A wonderfully informative book!

Love love love this book! It has helped me in so many ways. It's helped with self Discovery and taught me about how others in the community might experience certain things. It's a great book and I can't recommend it highly enough. Was a bit frustrating with the shipping. The first order never arrived because they tried shipping with a company that had horrible reviews. Luckily they gave me a free replacement and shipped for free with USPS the second time around.

Informative and well-written

I am not actually as clueless as my non-binary kid thinks I am, however, I enjoyed this book and found it helpful. It's informative and well-written.

Good stuff.

Got it for my kiddo she loves it. (Age 13)

Easy to read

A very easy to read book. It’s complety clear about the definitions and it covers all the concepts under the umbrella of diversity. I used it for an investigation and it worked perfectly.

One Stop Resource Book

Ash is absolutely perfect. This book is an easy read, very informational, and recommended for anyone exploring the LGBTQ community and for allies wanting to know more.

Easy and fun workbook that anyone can follow.

This book is even comfortable for most Christians, as we are included too. Have no fear - this is a non-stress easy relaxing and very informative book. Get out your coloring pens - you may feel like drawing. This book is inclusive and engaging, and also gives a plethora of information. Well done.

Wonderful Book

My daughter just came out. I was so glad to find a book that would both educate and support her.

gaaaaaaayyyy

it's wonderful. Love Ash's youtube channel, great book, really good gift for pride or for an ignorant yourself or relative

Must read!

Wonderful and easy to read. Great primer for terms and language. Helpful and have recommended it to clients to understand language.

This author has an amazing YouTube channel under the name Ash Hardell because they have been married since the books release.

This is an easy to read explanation of most of the questions you are afraid to ask! Colorful both inside and out with great infocus pictures with an easy reading level. It’s an eye opener and a great way to start the gender dialogue with people who wouldn’t normally bring it up.

Great gift

Super helpful! It is easy to understand and covers so many topics. The illustrations are really colorful and enjoyable. I loved that there was never too much information on a page, and information if broken up by pictures or stories.

It will be good to have for future children i have that want ...

It will be good to have for future children i have that want to know more about people around them or themselves. It will also let me learn more about things i haven't had a chance to be around. Thank you for making the book!

Very informative

I absolutely loved this book. I've read other books about LGBTQ+ themes and concepts, but this one is very simple and easy to understand. Great for someone who's trying to learn the very basics.

AMAZING!! 10/10 would buy again!!

This is the best! it answered all my questions and then some! <3

Great for broadening perspectives and awareness.

Awesome, concise, and enlightening book. I appreciate how it strives to highlight some of the lesser know / understood identities. It also addresses intersectionalities and where certain terms are problematic, as they may have negative connotations or appropriations. I found this book super helpful, and while I am a cis, white, het, male, it even helped me expand my self-awareness, such as me being monoromantic, zedsexual, etc.

So comprehensive!

This book is the most comprehensive LGBTQ+ identity piece of media I've seen yet! The cheat sheet is great for quick searches, and the book as a whole is a smooth read. Highly recommend for anyone, whether LGBTQ+ or not.

This is great

This has been very helpful and comfort in my enviroment of bigotry. This book validate my feelings and helps me on my weakest days.

Important and informative

Fantastic book! Extremely helpful and informative for those that are not aware of preferred pronouns or definitions

Quality Resource For Any Age

This is a well-written book that is thoughtfully organized, easy to read, user-friendly, engaging, and informative. I bought it for my LGBT teen and while I am of course always open to talking with him openly about anything, in addition to that I also wanted to give him quality resources that he could access on his own at his own pace as he continues on his journey to find himself. I plan on also gifting his school library a copy of this book as well - our state finally has LGBT inclusive sex education and this book would be a great resource for curious and questioning teens.

Good humor and top-notch illustrations make for an engaging read

Educational and informative. Good humor and top-notch illustrations make for an engaging read.

A+ from an agender asexual

Fantastic read, I'd suggested to all your #woke friends who don't quite understand the ins and outs of the LGBT+ community but are openminded. An excellent tool to better understand either yourself or a loved one... Fresh and simulating insights presented in a relatable and non-condescending manner. Overall just very genuine and informative.

I absolutely love this book, Ashley is one of my favorite YouTubers and she did such a great job with the information and walking through the explanations and definitions. It's a really great collaboration with other YouTubers too, they all did a really nice job and the final product is great. 10/10 would recommend.

I really liked the breezy

Okay, I'm so excited about reviewing this book I took my phone to bed so I could write this while all this information is fresh in my mind! First, I want to tell you; this is not a book I'd hand to gramma to help her understand the LGBT+ community. Reading this requires a VERY open mind. As I believe it says on the back, this book is for helping questioning people explore their identity. It's really helpful for the people wearing a label that doesn't quite fit. I started reading this book as a way to support my LGBT+ brothers and sisters but it may have taught me a few things about myself. For example, I could choose to identity as masexual but I prefer to think of myself as a plain ol' cishet who is also white and christian. (Although not relevant I choose to throw in those last two labels because if there's one thing I learned from Tyrian Lanaster it's wear the things people use to insult you as armor.) But navigating away from me and back to the book! I really liked the breezy, informal voice the text had to it. I had to check the spine to make sure I was reading non-fiction a few times. For example, the author's last line in the book is "Okay bye!" There's just something so honest there. So human. It took some getting used to but when I did I liked it! Honestly, it was like reading a paperback Tumblr post. Take that as you will. I feel like Mardell did the best she could to represent everyone of every identity. The personal stories from her friends were a real treat. There were some parts I had a hard time getting through... That's why I gave it four stars. There were several times I had to put the book down, take a breath, and tell myself to be open minded. "Listen to understand." I feel that relates back to representing EVERYONE under the LGBT+ umbrella. I believe Mardell informs us that we delved into 80 identies. She even included a list of pronouns that were akin to "zhe"! (side note, if you scream at unsuspecting servers for not guessing you use zhe you have no place at my table.) As for my favorite part: I absolutely LOVE the idea of sexuality and gender being on a spectrum! Something just finally clicked for me! "Aha! That is why I have friends who are MOSTLY asexual!"or "Oh! That's how I can identify as female but I act kind of butch somedays!" I got really excited because I finally understood all these things I'd been uncertain about! I must say, this is a bit much when you're just starting to understand LGBT+ but I'm still really proud that I found this book in Goshen County. It gives me hope some choice friends of mine might be able to come home for a visit someday. It gives me hope that the world is changing... And with the current political climate, my LGBT+ brothers, sisters, and zheys need to know we love them, now more than ever. I enjoyed reading it. I'm not the target audience, but I learned a lot. Okay bye!

Gender/Sex Ed That Ignores Anthropology, Sociology, History, and Biology

This book could not have been written 5 years ago, since the content really has been created by hipsters and the sexual counter-culture very recently. This book confuses language, biology, and anthropology to suit its own premise. Conflating and deliberately obfuscating biological sex, gender, and sexual preference/expression helps no one legitimately interested in concepts of sex and gender in today's North American society. This book is more interested in promoting identity politics and artificial social exclusivity as a cover for inclusivity and social control. Only worth purchasing if you are interested to see the intellectual platform of social gender activists. Poor understanding of science, cultures and language.

A great book for privileged western white kids!

This is so ridiculously convoluted. Not sure why everyone wants all these labels, and why there’s labels for various personality traits. It’s a very privileged white thing to adopt a bunch of meaningless labels. People with real problems don’t have time to navel gaze and obsess over their identity. This is proven in the fact that in third world counties, there’s gay people, but not non-binary people, demigirls, etc. No one fits into any gender box completely, so by default we’re all non-binary. Gender heavily depends on whatever society you’re in, which means gender isn’t a fixed thing. It’s different everywhere. One thing that is fixed is sex. Everyone (even intersex people) are either male or female, everything else is expression. Putting on clothes made for the opposite sex doesn’t change your sex. A girl is someone with a female body and any personality, not a “female personality” and any body. Any other definition is sexism. Anyone who adopts these idiotic labels needs to expand their horizons, and realize there’s a bigger world out there. If you’re a white kid who’s never lived in a war torn country, or watched family members die from curable diseases, then this book is for you.

Everyone Should Read This

The ABC’s of LGBT+ is a book that I believe belongs on every bookshelf. Even as the language surrounding the LGBT+ community continues to change, expand, and evolve, this book will always be an essential foundation for many of the terms and has some amazing examples of what they mean or even how the terms came to be and how they’ve evolved so far already. It has over twenty-five personal stories included to help readers better understand various labels and how certain individuals may or may not use their label(s) or how their label(s) applies to them and their situation. It is with these personal stories that the transfer of knowledge and “ah-ha” moments truly happen while reading. Readers can research terminology all day long, but without talking with someone about some of this information, chances are the information just won’t stick or make complete sense. If you’re unable to talk with someone, this book is an amazing resource. And to boot? The book will make you feel valued, appreciated, valid, and will understand that it’s all a bit confusing. Hardell did an amazing job of their conversational tone throughout the book that sometimes it’s hard to remember that you’re not actually having a conversation with the pages. Recommended Reader: Absolutely everyone. Are you a parent? Read this. Are you a teacher? I would recommend you read it and make sure your school library has it in stock! Are you a teenager questioning where you land on the spectrum of gender and/or sexuality? There are ways for you to acquire it online for very cheap, if not free! Are you a person who has been open and out in the LGBT+ community for most your life? Pick it up, because you’ll learn more than you realized you didn’t know. Seriously – Everyone. I know it seems like I say that about a lot of books so far, but if you had to buy one book from my recommendation, I would say this one.

Well written book that covers a broad array of the less common sexes and genders

Well written book that covers a broad array of the less common sexes and genders, along with the language and labels that are commonly in use for them at the time of the book's writing. Effective arguments about why there are more than just a pair of sexes and genders. This is a great first book, and is hopefully just the first from this author. It has clearly been written from (and to) the heart as well as the head. The artwork fits in well with the tone of the book. The text is written in a chatty style as opposed to a clinical or textbook style, but there are a few places where long lists are given that don't have as much chattiness about them. The several short pieces by a number of people who choose various sex and gender labels - all of them are useful to help understand what those labels may mean for that person, but a few of them don't seem quite as on point as the rest of them. While the extensive lists of sexes and genders can be helpful, some of them will slowly go out of date as the LGBT+ community adjusts the wording used.

I honestly bought this to understand more about lgbqt labels ...

I honestly bought this to understand more about lgbqt labels: for myself it's hard to understand all the different types of labels. The first 10 pages are a glossary to understand what each label means. Which helped, but I found myself having to switch from pages I was reading to the front constantly.

Everyone should read this book.

This books is absolutely fantastic for starting or refreshing your knowledge about LGBTQIAP+ identities; I knew a lot of the information in the book, but also learned a lot too! I wish it was in basically every school and library, so more people could read it and educate themselves. It's very inclusive and easy to understand, which I really appreciated. It even acknowledges that not every definition given in the book is the absolute only definition for that identity (for example, one definition given for bisexual/biromantic in the book is being attracted to two or more genders, while I've heard some bi people define it as being attracted to genders similar to their own and different to their own.) I did find the footnotes that included websites to be a little unusable; I would like to visit those sites to learn more, but I don't know if I'm going to sit down and go through the whole book again and type out all of the urls to do that.

A great book for anyone interested in LGBT+ topics

This is a great and informative book! It covers both gender identity and sexual orientation, giving brief experiences from people who identify with the labels paired with a more dictionary like definition. It covers many different identities and gives you resources to be able to find more information and do your own research. I would highly recommend this to anyone who is questioning their gender identity or sexual orientation, parent of LGBT+ youth, or just as a book for young people to read to better understand their LGBT+ peers. Ash has a great way with words and I have always enjoyed their poetry and artistic take on their youtube videos, which I think helped make this book a work of art itself.

Fantastic Read

This book is a fantastic read not only for people of the LGBTQIA+ community wishing to explore more about themselves and gain a deeper understanding of their personal identity, but as well as for people outside the community to learn more while expanding inner perspectives through positive education. This book is easy to follow with in depth explanations, charming to read with Ash’s humor and personality embedded into the pages, and deeply powerful as many people share their own personal stories firsthand. I would highly recommend this book to all.

I love her

I met my girlfriend online, and moved to California for her. The app we met through was something called the LGBTQ amino app, which this YouTubed had talked about before. My girlfriend downloaded it because of her. We met because of her. That was a year and a half ago and We now watch her videos constantly and she’s been talking about wanting to buy this book. I think it’ll be her favorite Christmas present. We’re both genderqueer lesbians and I can’t wait to read it

LOVED it.

I loved this book so much! It was incredibly informative and easy to read, as well as humorous and clever. I was sad when it was over because I wanted to keep reading about gender and sexual identities. Would recommend to everyone!

I'm going to order another book to give it to my local library cause I think it's just such a great resource for people.

this helped me a lot

this book helped me understand my sex and sexuality, i just thought i was bisexual but after reading this book i fugured out that i am pansexual and this book partly helped me figure out what i was gender-wise and i did my research and i am genderfluid, this book had a big part on how i discovered who i was.

Amazing and beautiful book!

Best LGBTQ+ intro out there

This is the most inclusive LGBTQ+ book I have read so far. Other than a few mis-steps (like not using the definition that bisexual have been using to define themselves) this is a great introduction.

Minnesota Reppin 😎

I'm so excited to read my copy and to dive deeper into who I am as part of the LGBTQA+ community. THANK YOU for writing this. You are awesome and such a role model for our community.

Must buy!

I encourage you to get this book. Ashley (and grace) is one of my favorite youtubers so please get this it's very informative to a whole other side of the LGBT+ I learned so much along with lots of laughs.

Pretty certain Neutrois is a mental illness

There are only 2 genders UPDATE: I own this book and have read it. This is a book that validates people's misguided feelings. I stand by that statement

Complete crap

Trash trash and more trash.

Very informative and interesting :>

Goes into great detail and gives a broader and more in depth understanding of the wide varieties of identities and orientations people can be/have. The stories from LGBTAQ+ community were interesting and I loved them. Would recommend for anyone wanting to understand more about the community or themselves.

Five Stars

loved it. great book. super in depth. a couple tiny typos, otherwise perfect.

Just awesome!!

Just awesome!!! I would really recommend it to anyone, ANYONE. It is so educational, but does a fantastic job of using other's life experiences to provide the reader with the data, no strings attached, thus it is suitable for all members of the LGBTTQQIAAP community (including allies). This is sooo amazing, because it makes the book yours, just like your gender and sexuality, forming a really important parallel between the two. As much as it was very informing, it was very heartwarming to be able to use this book as a gateway to the full Queer community, with personal and comforting stories from sooo many people. Thank you so so so so much Ash!

A fascinating journey through the terminology of sex and gender.

I love this book. However reviewing it while my head is still spinning from the sheer amount of information is not easy. I think everyone should read this if only to appreciate how nuanced and diverse are sex and gender. I went into the book a member of the LGBT community and suddenly found myself in the LGBTQIA+ community and it's fascinating. I would love anyone who thinks they are straight to read this with an open mind, they will learn a lot, they may even wonder whether 'straight' is aa adequate description of anyone they know.

so great!

I've loved ash's videos for ages and have been meaning to buy this book for a while. It's informative and interesting and the page designs are honestly so pretty? I think it's useful on so many levels, whether you're questioning your identity and are seeking some sort of reassurance or education, or interested in learning more about the lgbtq+ community, or simply like reading in depth and clearly well researched works about gender and sexuality, created by someone who clearly has so much passion for talking about these issues and topics. I seriously can't praise Ash or this book highly enough.

A good place to start...

An interesting attempt at beginning to tackle the widespread ignorance/misunderstanding of gender, sexuality, orientation and expression. It acknowledges its shortcomings, but as a first-port-of-call for someone trying to get to grips with an vast expanse of unfamiliar terminology, its a pretty decent guide.

Lovely person. Interesting read.

Ash Hardell (yes, name has changed since the release of this book) is an amazing human & their work for the LGBTQ+, particularly transgender, community has helped so many people! She explains so many different labels in this book and it’s so interesting to read through, even if all of these terms can be a little confusing at times. I think the message he wants to come out of this is that you can read about & take an interest in learning about something, without being expected to know absolutely everything. Lovely. (This person is pronoun indifferent, which is why I used she/her, he/him & they/them interchangeably)

Amazing book

This is a really good book for people who are still questioning, people who want to know more about the rest of the community or people who are interested and want to learn more about sexuality and gender identity

Esential Sex-Ed book!

This is a fantastic book, and should be manditory for all sex education classes in schools. Very comprehensive, and incridibly inclusive. A must read for everyone - not just queer identifying individuals!

Great informational book!

promotes understanding and respect

The ABC‘s of LGBT+ by Ashley Mardell, now Ash Hardell, is basically a modern sex education book. It is a guide and lexicon (with personal comentary) of the different genders, sexual and other attractions and much more. The author, Ash Hardell, is a YouTube star and one main topic of her YouTube channel is everything LGBT+-related. In this book he talks to the reader as a friend and guides them through the jungle of ideas, labels and definitions of the LGBT+ world in a very respectful and esteeming way. Their informal style gives the impression that they are really talking (not writing) to you. One of his main messages are that it is sometimes hard to understand identities that you do not share. Therefore, she gives other people (bloggers, youtubers) a voice by citing how they would themselves describe their own identity and by letting them tell their stories. The book is filled with beautiful drawings, graphs and photos, it is a pleasure to the eye. But it is a pleasure to touch, too, because the cover of the book is not only artistically styled but also made of a very soft material. It is a pleasure to simply hold the book in your hands. This contributes to the reading experience. The intended audience for the book is obviously young readers. On the back of the book, it says that it is intended for questioning teens, teachers or parents. Well, I am neither of these and I still thoroughly enjoyed the book in every way. I have learned that there actually is a word for what I identify as. I think that this book should be used in every sex ed class as those classes mostly neglect other genders than female and male and other orientations than hetero, homo and bi, if they even mention the last two. This guide promotes a world that is less of a place of prejudice and more of a place of understanding and respect.

If you buy just one book to understand the current state of LGBT+...

Probably the most informative book I’ve found this year on the subject. Information and yet readable and fun. Dear author’s Mom - thanks for suggesting the cheat sheet portion! Invaluable! I really hope it gets updated every few years, so it’s always the best resource, but it will still age well because of all the personal stories and relatable scenarios.

It did help

The book didn’t give me a magical answer about my sexuality, but did help me on getting there. It also helped in learning about different gender identities which I haven’t found much good information for online(thought that could be my fault). So It may help you if you have questions about yourself or just questions about the LGBTQ+ community.

Good but confusion abounds

Bought to make something clearer for myself ended making things as clear as mud. It is well written just a confusing subject I guess for me. The author is kind and funny in the writing

every one needs to read this

Well I've only started reading it but already learnt so.much. I'm big ashy fan and I think her new book is well need ed. I want to.buy more and give to.people. so.much valuable info.in it. So exciting to have holiday to finish reading it.

This book offers a crash course discovery into the ever evolving language around sexuality and gender. Mardell took from her own perspective as well as borrowing from many voices within and outside of the gender, sexual, and romantic minorities communities to explore the topics at hand. The book is written in a language that is inviting and clear to those who are looking to learn more. A great resource for anyone looking to grow their understanding of sexuality and gender.

Excellent book

I really enjoyed reading the book. It does a good job of explaining gender identity and sexual orientation.

Still one of my favourite secret books

Tried to teach my parents a few things with this. Didnt work. My friends all absolutely loved it tho

Ash is the bomb

So so so amazing. Great for newbies and anyone wanting to expand their knowledge of LGBT identities. A little sad that some of my identifiers weren't in here, but I am looking forward to the next edition with even more info!

Awesome!

Llegó al día siguiente de que lo pedí y en increíbles condiciones. Se ve que es un texto increíble súper recomendado

lgbt++++++++

Amazingly good for the beginers and also to go deeper in lgbt+ terminology and understandings. Great balance betweem definitions and share of personal understandings of (self) labels.

Excellent Queer Reference Material

Got this as a resource for my family members. The book is colourful and fun to read. It also has anecdotes from many other contributors. Well worth the read. :)
