The author is funny, honest, and most importantly knowledgeable about the country. Her expertise of Thailand is so extensive. These books are truly a treasure ! Love, love, love this book! Easy to read, relatable, laugh-out-loud funny, provides the information I want to know. Top things I especially like: - Not only does the author describe her top places to stay, but she describes what types of people would enjoy staying there. For example, she recommends hostels/hotels with pub crawls while also suggesting hostels with more relaxed atmospheres for the laid-back traveler. - The author provides lots and lots of options and helpful tips on how to get around to the different cities within Thailand. - The author provides helpful example itineraries of getting to her favorite highlights in the country if you only have one or two weeks. No regrets buying this book!!

Alexa does a great job giving you plenty of safe options for places to stay, must see places, places to eat, etc. I highly recommend this book if you plan on traveling solo to Thailand. It allows you to discover the cities before arriving so you will feel like a local when you do. You are bound to be a pro at solo travel through Thailand with this book. Enjoy ladies! I downloaded this book about a week before traveling a month through Thailand on my own. It helped me tremendously -- the book gave incredible insight and awesome recommendations! I ended up staying at several of the places listed in the book, ate at several of the restaurants and did activities suggested as well....I have to say, I am soooo grateful I did. Everything was spot on and amazing! I even took along a group of people from my hostel to one of the beaches -- everyone was super impressed and thankful for finding a spot they wouldn't have known about. I strongly suggest reading this if you want to make the most out of your trip to Thailand. Even though I did my own thing, this book also includes some great itinerary examples that could come in useful when planning an upcoming trip.

Reading this book totally changed what my boyfriend and i wouldve done in thailand. You know how you have that one friend who wont give you the juicy scoop, shes way too positive about everything? “Do i look good in this?” “Sure, you look gorge!!” Turns out, you def couldve used some spanks. This girl is your REAL friend who goes with you to target last second after shes honest and tells you youll be a 10/10 if you add spanks. Shes been to thailand so many times, she knows whats a waste of your time, and whats overrated based on the cost etc. Shes very open and nonjudgemental and gives you ideas for fun for every life style. I messaged her on IG, and she even told me a great place complete with exact address to go for my boyfriend to get customs suits made in bangkok.

If you’re going to Thailand, buy this book! I bought my plane tickets in May and bought this book in June. It really helped me start to plan and decide what exactly I wanted to get out of the trip. It helped me decide on what island to go to and also was very helpful in terms of knowing what sort of options you have. She gives advice for all levels of budget and includes suggestions for them. I did an excursion that she mentioned in the book and it was one of my top 3 experiences of my whole two week trip. I also took it with me and a girl I was at a hostel with used it because she wasn’t quite sure where to go next. If I ever find myself in Bali, I will be buying Alexa’s Bali guide as well.

Alexa is literally changing the way that women are allowed to travel. Sure, she writes a great travel book (taking into account things like how soft the beds are, if there's a rain shower, when it's worth splurging v. not) but it's Alexa as a person, infused into her writing and everything she does, that is really changing the game. At every turn in the book and on her website she offers pep talks, wit, humor, and accessibility to her through social media. She talks to you like one of her girlfriends or sisters, always giving the honest truth. She also writes the first travel guide I've ever read that knows what women ACTUALLY care about - how to keep your drinks safe, where to make new friends while traveling, and where to get condoms and birth control. What stuck with me the most was a line in this book - "women have been taught to be polite above all else. Don't listen to that. If your gut tells you something is off, throw politeness to the wind." Alexa is opening the world to women.

I am 57 and decided to start traveling alone, other wise I would never go. I bought Alexa's book and was so impressed and I got so excited knowing I could do this alone! But there was still a bit of fear so I contacted her and asked her to help me plan my trip. She sent me a questionnaire, asked great questions to pinpoint places to suggest that I would love. She pretty much NAILED it! I LOVED my trip! I went as far as taking her suggestion to travel with a 40L backpack! It was THE best thing I did! Travel light! I didn't have to schlep a rolling bag along dirt roads and beaches hopping a long tail boat to my next destination. Thailand is amazing, a great first solo trip for sure! Her book will give you the best tips, where to eat, stay, what to do and what NOT to do. There is no boring history or other facts, just pure good information. Can't wait for her Italy book to come out, I think that's next for me. I will definitely be contacting her again for that one. Buy this book, you won't regret it.

First of all let me say that I am still in Thailand as I write this and it will be almost a month soon. WIthout this book I would’ve been lost and probably ended my trip sooner. Every recommendation Lexi makes is because she’s been there and done that and can tell you first hand! There’s no filler and no overly touristy spots like you would get with other guides like lonely planet etc etc. she gets straight to the point of telling you what’s awesome and what’s not. But what topped it off for me is how if you reach out to her she’ll answer any question you have so you literally feel like you have a voice to go along with the book. I recommend it for everyone even if you’re not a woman!

Loved the book! Definitely the ONLY book you will need for the trip (unless you also want to buy the Thailand Islands & Beaches book). This was an absolute must for an amazing week in Thailand with my 2 girl friends. Great tips and suggestions. Every place we tried from the book was an absolute home run. I don’t think the trip would have been as flawlessly great if it were not for the book. I ended up getting the ebook version, which at first I wasn’t sure about, but after the trip, I’m thankful that I could just go on my phone while out exploring and look up stuff that I had marked in the book.

I highly recommend this guide! Unlike other guides I’ve purchased which are rather dry, Alexa’s solo guide was such a fun read that I ended up reading it cover to cover. Her advice has given me more confidence in planning my trip to Thailand this year. I originally intended to visit Thailand with one of those all inclusive tours, but with this guide, I feel I can plan my own route and excursions, and see the best of Thailand while avoiding overcrowded locations and tourist traps.

Four stars for providing places to stay, how to get to location of interests, visa requirements, things to do, places to visit and basic words to know. One star less for some overlooked misspelled words. Aside from that, I suggest the book for travelers planning to visit Thailand.

This book was exactly what I needed to plan my first solo trip to Thailand! Any hotel, activity or restaurant I went to that she recommended was great. This book is just what it says it is- written by a woman, for women travelers.

Enjoyed this book for a great overview of multiple parts of Thailand. My tour will be in Bangkok, Chiang Mai and some southern islands. This book covered them all. I like the easy breakdown by subject. Great tips for food, lodging & entertainment. Definitely recommend.

I bought this book along with the Cambodia travel guide to help myself and a friend plan our girls trip this January, and THANK GOD I did. Lexi’s writing makes you feel like you’re talking to a friend who lives in Thailand, who is giving you a local gal’s favorite spots.

This book is the PERFECT guide on your trip to Thailand! I traveled to Thailand in May 2018 and used this throughout the entire trip. The advice was spot on, and restaurant choices could not have been better. This was our first trip and we went to Bangkok, Chiang Mai, Pai, Krabi, and Koh Phi Phi. Will absolutely use this guide book again on our next visit to the beautiful country as we still have so much of Thailand to discover! Thank you for the great travel guide!

I’d recommend this to anyone heading to Thailand. It has some great and very detailed information about what to do and what to avoid, where to eat, where to shop and interesting info about Thai holidays. The pictures are also very bright and colorful!

Love all the pro tips and that it covers all aspects of all the places- night life, food, where to stay, what to do. Having been to some of these islands/cities, I can say they were covered pretty well, so I’m sure I’ll use the guides for the others places if I ever get to go there! Also, loved the advice to skip Phuket, definitely agree that time can be better spent elsewhere

I pretty much planned a 2 week trip around Thailand for my husband and I based on this book and it was amazing. I even reached out to the author on Instagram for advice on Phuket and she got back to me right away. The only thing I would add was do Bob’s booze cruise in the Phi Phi islands!!

I'm really glad I read this book. I plan to take my son on a trip to Thailand but fear of the unknown has held be back. This guide was created for a young solo traveler, but there is plenty of info on Elephant tours and scuba diving and hidden gems, so I found it helpful as a single parent planning a trip. This gave me a great over view of each city including prices for food and lodging, what to expect, things to do, where to get great food, how to get from place to place and where to stay. Also includes what to avoid and look out for. I can now create a travel itinerary for myself based on my personal vacation preferences and budget. Pretty exciting!

Good comprehensive guide! One thing I especially liked were the helpful tips about cultural dos and don’ts. Besides those, the book is packed with all sorts of information on any option you’d think of, from luxury to budget travel, where to stay, and what to do!

Great book for guys and girls. The guide doesn’t overwhelm you with too much information gives you the basics on accommodations, sightseeing, where to eat, what to see, and pretty much anything else you will be looking to see while on vacation.

Am a bit disappointed. While cool it’s written by a young author, for a $20+ travel guide it is too shallow, has no cultural content, opinionated to the point that whole cities and regions are missing (such as Phuket); and probably the worst travel guide I've ever bought. The pro tips are okay, but nothing you can’t find online in more detail. Will be trying lonely planet next; new version out in July 2018.

It’s cute and fun but lacks a lot of information. Very little on the cultural aspects of areas and nothing in Phuket other than “just don’t go there”. Only buy this book if you also buy a travel guide buy a reputable publisher as well. Has great info on Bangkok though!

Not very helpful, it seemed like I was reading someone's travel blog - self published and sloppily edited (lots of typos). She gave suggestions for hotels, restaurants, and activities. I was looking for a more thorough review.

The 'guide' has no maps and no index. Anyone who sees only this drab, colorless rag will miss all the color and flavor of this country. The guide has no focus. It doesn't help the traveler decide what to see, where to go and how to spend their time. Buy another guide. It would be impossible for it not to be better

Not that I’m traveling to Thailand in the midst of a pandemic… I had planed for a trip there this year and am very sad that is not possible…however, I hope I will be able to go there in the near future. -In the meantime, I settle for being an armchair adventurer, and am taking great delight in getting lost into Alexa West’s travel guide for women. I like the way she writes about Thailand,- it is witty and very evocative, and I get a taste of what it might feel like to actually be there. It’s very accessible, and I love that she avoids the tourist traps and tells you about the places that might otherwise be hidden to a non local. I dip into this book to have a taste of travel, and I can’t wait to use it as a guide in real life when that becomes possible again!

I’m a solo girl who loves being alone but has very seldom traveled solo. I think this guide is amazing, I wish I could read guides from this author on every single place I want to visit, I would seriously buy them all. I thought the information provided was really well organized and fun to look at. You won’t have to spend a lot of time reading paragraph after paragraph of pointless stories, this guide gets right down to the really valuable stuff, and is full of fun and useful tips along the way. I loved the itineraries and recommendations, I also really love the emphasis on ethical activities that don’t support industries that harm humans or animals. Whether you’re a girl or a guy I would definitely recommend this guide to anyone visiting Thailand anytime soon.

I liked this book a lot. It got straight to the pertinent information - you know, the kind of info you really actually want to know first, like what not to do and how to deal with certain situations that are not familiar (like a Thai airport). Although it's a guide for girls, I think it's very handy for anyone. This is an up close, local view - pair this book with one of the big name travel guides, and you'd have a nicely rounded collection of information for planning a trip.

One million stars to Alexa West! She really did think of everything! It’s simple to read, relatable, funny, and provides all the information from the moment you arrive in Thailand. First, let me share my story! When I graduated from college, I knew I wanted to travel before entering the corporate world. My mom, being the overconcerned parent she is, purchased this book for me. I thought it'd have a bunch of Touristy Places and Overpriced Hotels but BOY was I wrong. All you need is this book, a highlighter, post-it notes, and a book to plan your itinerary. I'm serious! It's that easy. I read this entire book in one night and planned my whole itinerary based on this book without going outside my budget. I'd like to thank the author for 2 specific things. The first is recommending the Mad Monkey Hostel. This is the first place I stayed when I arrived in Bangkok, and as a girl who likes to party, I highly recommend it. The dorms were incredibly clean, the staff was very friendly and accommodating and I met an incredible group of friends from all over the world there. The 14 of us got along so well that we all decided that we didn't want to split up so we completely revised our itineraries to be together the entire trip. We have a group chat that is still active today. I made lifelong friends that I never would've met if it wasn't for her recommendation! THANK YOU LEXI! The second best part, in my opinion, is that she links her Instagram in the book so you can reach out with any questions. I had a health issue while abroad and reached out to her via Direct Message for some help. She got back to me promptly and gave the best advice - and probably saved me hundreds of dollars in medical bills! She really makes it so that every woman feels safe in Thailand. Here are some other added benefits of this book! -Describes places to stay within every budget and major city of Thailand -Tells you the places and tourist attractions to skip. When you only have a few days in each city, knowing what to avoid is really helpful! -Gives incredible insight on how to get around to different cities within Thailand -Tons of helpful apps that all travelers should download - There are example itineraries that you can customize depending on your travel plans I HIGHLY recommend this for anyone traveling to Thailand. I had it out literally every day on my trip and would've been so lost without it. I will certainly buy her other books when traveling to other places that she has been.

So I am planning a trip to Southeast Asia and my husband has been freaking out that I am going alone. So I came across another book by Alexa, Bali! I wasn’t even done that book and ordered this one, Cambodia and Vietnam! The only one I haven’t read is the Beaches one for Thailand (for SE Asia). I read her introduction to everyone. I knew when I read it this book was perfect for me! Why?! Because we have tits!!! Yes girl!!! I love how she gives a budget option to a Luxury option in all her books! It makes budgeting great, depending on your budget and spending! Buy this! Won’t disappoint! And grab your highlighters girls and start highlighting! ;)

Thailand was a life changing experience and fostered a newfound love of travel in my life. I found this book to be a trusty companion as it was incredibly helpful and illuminating for my exploration of the Thai culture. Alexa's quick wit and knowledge of single gal travel gave brilliant insight of the do's and dont's and wonderful recommendations. I highly recommend picking up this book as your Thai guide!

An excellent book detailing everything one needs to know as a single female traveler in Thailand.

I am so happy I bought this book to guide me through Thailand. The information inside is clear and to the point. No crazy sifting through hundreds of pages of size 3 font to find what you need. Not to mention Alexa is amazing! I sent her a message on Instagram to ask her a question and she responded within hours. It really makes me so much more comfortable taking my first solo trip!

I had originally purchased the Lonely Planet travel guide which only overwhelmed me and I was unable to decide what parts of Thailand to go to. This guide narrowed things down for me and allowed me to plan a great trip instead of trying to squeeze too many destinations in. I love the entertaining writing style and quick, to the point suggestions. Will be purchasing your other guides for my future travels!

This book is ABSOLUTELY AMAZING. The guide gives you every tip and trick you can possibly need for navigating every part of the country! From best eats to embassy’s and hospitals! Its all in the book! She manages to include everything with out it being 6829736383882737 pages! Whats amazing about it is that its not just for women, its for ANYONE! This book made my first solo trip a breeze! Way better than any encyclopedia sized lonely planet book!

This book has been extremely informative on so many different levels. I love the bucket list. I appreciate the different categories of economic options. And i commend the young ladies that have taken the first steps to brave such travels!! Well done!!!

Not only is the book a great read with lots of helpful tips, but the author is super helpful herself-- I just moved to Thailand and she and the book have been a saving grace!
