Wonderful book & delivery
I was happy to find a used version of this book at a good price. Many of the textile artists are favorites of mine and I have wanted to add this to my collection for quite a while. Shipping and packaging were great!
Lovely, an abundance of ideas
Anne Kelly has done it again with another beautiful book. So many ideas, so much inspiration, whether you travel, or on your daily 'travels' around your own home, neighborhood, city. Anne finds the beauty in the everyday- isn't that what's most beautiful anyway? Scenery that remind us of home, or remind us of a special place where we have visited. Finding connections to how we felt at home, or abroad through stitching and found fabrics, special scraps, anything that brings those feelings back. Many projects to try and you really can't go wrong- what you create will be uniquely yours and special to you. Thank you Anne for such a beautiful, inspiring book.
Beautiful and inspiring
I’m working on a travel memory book for my trip to Amsterdam and Ireland, and needed a little boost to my imagination. This book was it! I’m having a great time with my project!
Not my cup of tea
A good book , but not what it looked like on line. I returned it.
Interesting fiber art and travel stories
I enjoyed looking through this book. The samples shown were mostly by Anne Kelly, with some works from other artists included. There are descriptions of travels, and information about other cultures. There are also some ideas for projects with some instruction listed. I agree with reviews from both Lin Davies (3 stars) and Susan Artusa (5 stars). I enjoyed seeing the variety of textile artwork in this book, from embroidered pieces, fiber collage, altered tin boxes, stitched paper collage, botanical tapestry, embroidered maps, dollhouses, textiles on suitcases, map books, as well as several fun mood boards. This is a worthwhile book for any textile artist or someone who loves travel art, collage, embroidery and/or map art. 4.5 stars.
Love the texture of the cover. you open the book you know you are in for a wonderful experience
Love anne Kelly’s style
A quick read
I bought this book having seen and admired Anne Kelly's work and was looking forward to it as a lockdown diversion. However I read it cover to cover in a couple of hours and although there are some good photographs I thought it was very slight, with little insight into the author's practice. The work of other artist on the theme is referenced but, again, the content is slight with only a couple of paragraphs each on the page. This is Anne Kelly's third book - her style remains the same and it is possible she has nothing original left to say. Some books I return to again and again but this will not be not one of them.
An interesting overview work
Anne Kelly works with mixed media and this seems to be a comprehensive selection of her pieces. It also showcases the work of other craftspeople all with the overriding theme of travel. The book is well illustrated and although I feel that the work is inconsistent in quality, Kelly has a proven track record of exhibitions etc. so I am just voicing my personal opinion. My main problems with the book are a) that the dimensions of the works are not given and sometimes this is important and b) her descriptions of how she constructed pieces is sometimes unclear. I have no wish to copy what she does but instructions should either be clear or not there at all.
Beautiful Gift Book
I gave this as a Birthday Gift. My Friend was delighted with this Beautiful Book. I could not find it in local Shops so I was delighted to buy it here and for such a good price too.
Lovely work, variable print quality.
Some beautiful work and some inspiring content. However, the image quality on a few of the pieces featured were very poor, which for me, spoiled my enjoyment of the book. It looks like some of the images were too low in resolution and perhaps enlarged too much. This said, Anne Kelly's work is lovely and I enjoyed the travel theme immensely. The contributions are engaging and varied and the book is very informative. Still a nice book to have and I don't regret buying it, just frustrated by the quality of some of the images, even though the majority of the images are crisp and high quality.
