Vasant Lad
This book brings forth the practices of Ayurveda from the ancient texts and presents them in a systematic organization that is readily accessible to a Western audience. Vasant Lad provides comprehensive information on therapeutic modalities including diet and lifestyle recommendations, palliative and cleansing therapies, subtle healing methods including individual rejuvenation protocols, yoga and pranayama practices, and herbal substances as well as management techniques according to dosha, dhatu, srotamsi, and the subtle essences. Each section clearly explains the principles of the healing techniques, often with the steps outlined for the reader, in addition to the herbal substances and their practical application. It is an essential reference for the Ayurvedic practitioner.

One of Dr. Lad's favorite sutras from Charaka says that a true physician knows the body, mind, thoughts, feelings, and consciousness of the patient. Unless you enter the heart of your patient with the light of awareness, knowledge, compassion, and insight, you will not be able to diagnose their problem and treat the person accordingly.

Dr. Lad's students from all over the world learn Ayurveda, step by patient step, grounding their knowledge in the principles of a system that pre-dates Western medical concepts by thousands of years. Next, they learn the sophisticated methods of evaluation that Ayurveda provides. Mastering these techniques takes practice and dedication. The previous steps, well practiced, have prepared the student to enter into the next stage, where they can stand beside the client and guide them on their journey of healing.

One of the best books I have ever purchased

One of the best things that has happened in my life is the discovery and benefits of ayurveda. I wish I had known more when I was younger of course. This book along with the first two has given me the knowledge in my quest of a lifetime to live a vedic lifestyle of continuous transformation in all aspects of my life. All of the books have been packed with information on practices that are easy to begin to incorporate into our lives. Every practice has become routine. I feel so many areas of my life healing the further along this path I get. It makes me want to go back to school. I am a former massage therapist, nutritional therapist, Yoga teacher, Tai chi, etc. I have studied health, healing, spirituality and a multitude of other things throughout my life. I keep coming back to ayurveda time and again. This book along with volumes 1 & 2, make it so much more interesting, understandable, fulfilling. I am so grateful for them even though I am not enrolled in the program they are intended for. Thankyou Vasant Lad. Wish I could go study at the institute.

Important information - everyone should read!

Love these books! I’m an RN,BSN from 8 generations of doctors - these books are amazing! Some of this is very old school that has been forgotten today and a lot is more advanced then western science. I am amazed at the wisdom found in these texts !

Very helpful for the general public.

I just wanted to learn more and this was very helpful. I learned alot from this book. I am very happy to have purchased it for the useful information that was available in it.

I recommend getting all three

Authorative and complete textbook for people who have some experience with Ayurveda already. A third book in a series - for serious students of Ayurveda, I recommend getting all three. For entry, general level, I suggest getting "Ayurveda, science of healing" by Dr Lad, Home Remedies or his cookbook.

Excellent

Dr. Lad's Textbook of Ayurveda Vol Three is a must read. The information is presented in a way that lends itself to comprehension and is a must read for anyone in the field. Once again Dr. Lad does an excellent job in presented such a valuable field of medicine.

An indispensible resource for every ayurvedic student, practitioner and teacher

The Textbook of Ayurveda (Volume 3: General Principles of Management and Treatment) is a continuation of Dr. Vasant Lad's two earlier works comprising this textbook series that includes volume 1 (Fundamental Principles, treating general principles of Ayurveda) and volume 2 (A Complete Guide to Clinical Assessment, addressing diagnostic modalities). Volume 3 deals with general principles of treatment and provides comprehensive and authoritative information on therapeutic modalities including diet and lifestyle management protocols, palliative and detoxifying therapies, subtle healing methods including individual rejuvenation protocols, yoga and pranayama practices, and herbal medical protocols as well as case management techniques. This book is divided into seventeen beautifully organized and easily followed chapters written in clear, straightforward language covering, respectively, the Ayurvedic management of diseases states and efforts to restore balance; Dosha gati (i.e., dosha movement); Diseases due to urge-suppression; Food as medicine; Lifestyle management; Palliative therapies; Cleansing therapies; Panchakarma; Subtle therapies; Marma therapy; Yoga, pranayama and meditation; Herbal medicine; Rejuvenation therapy; Management of the doshas; Management of the dhatus; Management of the srotam, and Management of pran, tejas and ojas. This book takes the science, art and philosophy of Ayurveda out of the context of its ancient and authoritative but rather inaccessible classic sources and places them in a systematic organization that is readily accessible to contemporary Western readers, explainiing where necessary Ayurveda's principles in terms of biochemistry and biophysics (inter alia) cognizable to Westerners. Dr. Lad provides comprehensive information on the therapeutic modalities of Ayurveda explaining thoroughly and clearly the theoretical underpinning and applications of each. This volume (and indeed all of the volumes of the series published to date) reflects a deep personal experience of and practical insights into Ayurveda that only one who has drunk deeply at Ayurveda's fount of wisdom could convey so effectively. I unhesitatingly recommend this book and its companion volumes of the series, for every student, practitioner and teacher of Ayurveda, as I feel certain they are destined to become the normative instructional text for English-language Ayurveda programs of study. Even were that not the case, they belong in the library of everyone with a professional interest in the subjects covered.

Worth buying it.100%

Most amazing books, I have all 3 volumes. All have so much knowledge of everything you need to know about Ayurveda. Definitely recommend it.

The Bridge

Dr Lad serves as a bridge between the matter or molecular science of the currently practiced medicine and the energy science of Ayurveda helping the reader and student understand the unique contributions of this deep science This and it first 2 books in the series serve as important reads for Western trained physicians interested in studying Ayurveda and for the health conscious consumer who wants to evolve her/his level of health

Essential for Serious Students of Ayurveda

Dr. Lad was instrumental in introducing Ayurveda to the West. Over the past three decades has immersed us in the basics of Ayurveda and, with Volume 1, 2 and 3 of his textbooks, he is walking serious students of Ayurveda ever closer to being able to understand and practice more advanced Ayurvedic concepts and techniques. He is a rare and precious gift. All three volumes of his textbooks are reflections of this and essential for serious students of Ayurveda.
