Shirotani's getting better every day...

When Kurose takes Shirotani shopping for a new suit, he offers to take him by his apartment first so he can change out of Kurose’s clothes, which he is borrowing. Shirotani surprisingly refuses, citing the time that would be lost with the rituals he’d feel compelled to perform. This is a definite step forward for him. He does very well with the tailor, allowing him to take most of his measurements, which of course involves touching. An interesting situation arises when they take a break, and Shirotani finds himself unable to walk properly. Kurose takes him back to his apartment and helps him find relief. In the process, we learn that Shirotani is fearful that giving oral sex can lead to a bacterial infection. Where did he get this idea? Shirotani has had as much as he can take and hurries home, unwittingly leaving a spare key with Kurose. The next day, he sleeps late and doesn’t have time to style his hair, leaving it more natural, which garners a compliment from Mikami. Feeling a little unwell, Shirotani leaves work early, in order not to exacerbate his condition. He goes to bed, feeling unable to do anything else, much less make dinner. A concerned Kurose, who hasn’t heard from him in a few days, calls. But when Shirotani suddenly stops speaking in the middle of their conversation, Kurose becomes very worried and bicycles to Shirotani’s apartment, even knowing the other man would be uncomfortable with someone else in his home. Using the spare key, he gain entry to the apartment. Shirotani and Kurose go to an aquarium together, then arrange to watch a movie at Kurose’s apartment. Of course, one thing leads to another, and Kurose can’t help but touch Shirotani. And then he gives him an unexpected gift which holds a great deal of promise… With each volume of Ten Count, I think we learn a little more about Shirotani. This time we witness a flashback to his childhood, and we see what he saw that was rather traumatizing and probably the beginning of his germophobia. On the other hand, we haven’t really seen what makes Kurose tick. I suspect there is more to him than meets the eye. I think these two are really good together, and that they would make a great couple. Shirotani is already making great strides under Kurose’s tutelage. I think he has strong feelings for Kurose that he isn’t ready to express. He wants his touch and he enjoys his touch, but he has a hard time dealing with this knowledge because it also feels dirty to him. I think this all stems back to his boyhood trauma. I’m glad that Kurose established their relationship the way he did, as friends rather than therapist and patient. If it were the latter, he’d have been crossing a line, now they are equals. Looking forward to the next volume!

Yaoi that has a plot and good smut

Before buying a physical copy, there is a digital copy you can buy on comixology app. Is the same as the kindle expect some reason kindle doesn't have volume 3. Just letting you guys know if you dont already Review. I noticed people pointed out how this title is problematic and they right. Yaoi titles are known for that. I like the fact that it has a plot that isn't stupid

Excellent series, horrible condition

Firstly, let me just say that this series is a 5/5 for me! I love the characters, art, and story line. If you are a true yaoi lover, you can't go wrong with this one. I love it so much! So, I decided to buy the entire series. My 2/5 review comes from the horrible condition my NEW book came in. I have never written an Amazon review. But, I was so disappointed in the condition I had to say something. As a part of my order, I bought three other yaoi mangas. The other three were wrapped in plastic and came in great condition. However, this volume (which came in the same package) was not wrapped in plastic, had tears on the binding, and deep cuts (filled with dirt) on the front and back cover. I honestly have no idea how this is acceptable. I am a collector and I like to buy new and in perfect condition. I was able to wipe down the deep cuts, but they are still visible and you can definitely feel them. While I love this series, it pains me to look at this book and the money I wasted on getting something that appears used. I honestly expected more when I pay the ridiculous prime member price.

Gorgeous art with an ending that makes impatient for Volume 4

Volume 3 is hot, hot, hot! Mixed in with all that steaminess is a glimpse of the source of Shirotani's neurosis. *****Spoiler (but not really) ***** upcoming volumes will delve further into both Shirotani's and Kurose's backgrounds, and they will question their individual motives for their relationship (which the artist touches on in the intro of this volume). So sadly less eroticism, but more gripping drama. Love this series so much! Thank you so much for bringing it to us Sublime!

Well researched and well written!

I read a lot of manga and this one really stands out. The author must have put a lot of research into the disorder the main character suffers from, OCD. The way the story unfolds helps you to have insight to this condition. I love how the romance between the two takes shape, looking forward to the next volume!

I love this series!

I read all three of the first volumes one after the other... I never reviewed them until now. This is my third read through. Ten Count is my favorite series. It has my emotions just as mixed up as Shirotanis'. Volume 4 release in May... That's a month from now!? The series is very well drawn and written. Its a Dom and sub relationship but aren't all relationships.

Great guilty pleasure

~3.5/5 I know that this book has some real issues. Quite a bit of the way that Shirotani's issues are handled are very problematic. He's really fragile here, and yet Kurose does appear to abuse that. It's hard to tell if any of this is actually helping Shirotani or not; he's still pretty much in the same state as when the series started, maybe even worse. This does really bother me, but at the same time, I'm still quite enjoying this series. I like it for the problematic, dirty smut that it is. I do like how intense Shirotani's reactions are, though. Every time someone touches him, when he's worried about germs, when him and Kurose start getting intimate. I can really tell what is happening in his head, and his worries and reactions feel very real. This volume gets quite dirty, as well. There are a couple of really intense and dirty scenes between the two, and I quite like them. Even if parts of this series aren't good, I'm really enjoying reading it for what it is. I want to read more. [More of my reviews are available on my blog, Geeky Reading, to which there's a link on my profile.]

Easy Go To

Yep. This continues to be a go-to series. Definetly stands out in the genre.

A manga I would die for!

Another great story from Takarai Rihito-sensei!!! Read her other works but found this the most intriguing. I’m totally hooked and I’m head over heels for Kurose Riku x Shirotani Tadaomi. I’m totally rooting for both of them. They’re made for each other! Kurose-kun is such a tease and Shirotani-san is just so shy and pure. It makes me wanna protects him so much! (*≧∀≦*)

Nice

Cool

look great

A beautiful continuation of a beautiful story

A beautiful continuation of a beautiful story. This series has stood the test of time with me and remains as one of my favorite manga series' and couples ever. Takarai-sensei is an incredible story teller and artist. I view this as her masterpiece. With "Only the Flower Knows" as a close second.

Lovely manga

Another amazing volume. I can relate so much to the main character and I love the story. All I can say is that this is well worth the buy. If you're considering it, just get it! It's a fantastic read!

Good read

Great series

Great for any yaoi lovers

So far I've been drug down into the rabbit hole and the entrance has been sealed shut, this is one of my favorite yaoi's at the moment, the storyline is interesting and wants you to keep reading to see how their relationship furthers! If I had to describe it, I'd have to compare it to Junjo Romantica and Don't be cruel, it's definitely a page turner and a great book for any yaoi lovers out there!

SEXY!

Its yaoi so its good in my book 🤗👍

Not bad but not the best

One of the series I read to tide me over. It started out more about the protag's OCD but shifted its focus to his relationship with the deuterag. I hope to see the focus resume on his treatment.

Beautiful. Gay.

This is a really good manga that is beautiful and gay. The story starts to really kick off and gets gayer. This is where the (gay) fun begins!

Four Stars

Starting to lose interest at this point.

A Contentious Volume

I have to appreciate the risks taken by Viz/Sublime in bringing this title to the West; it flouts so many Western conventions and is a title that is very much rooted in Japanese culture. The themes here are uncomfortable and especially in this volume, the sex becomes extremely graphic even when it still ends up being more of a tease/prelude to the act. By volume 4, Kurose's actions do become much more explained (Note: there isn't one person with a mental illness in this title). In order to further the impact of the story in future volumes, author Takarai takes the two to a much more forceful and darker place first. But yes, most Westerners will understandedly back away quickly by the end of this volume even if the plot isn't to support the plot (as with other titles in the genre like Crimson Spell). Story: Shirotani fights a war within himself. His desires war against the cold hard logic of a heart that had been hardened in the past: the manifestation of his mysophobia. As Kurose continues to push boundaries, he will use a slow but determined assault on closing physical boundaries in order to eventually open up emotional ones. Shirotani is conflicted over Kurose's ebb and flow of attention and doubts himself and ability to appeal to another person. And in one night, boundaries will be crossed as sensuality is used as a tool to seduce. Obviously, I've carefully worded the above summary. The sex, such as it is, takes up most of the book. There has always been a cultural more in Japan that sexual partners who say no are doing so to be missish (which is considered more attractive and not as accepted in Western cultures) or because they don't know their own mind; in other words, desire trumps all obstacles and a person will have sex with a rock if it looks sexy enough. It can lead to some very inappropriate places, unfortunately, in Japan (e.g., pedophilia) and perhaps here. This is contrasted with Western cultures which are more and more emphatically stating that no means no. So the question of Kurose 'healing' Shirotani as an excuse for pushing beyond boundaries becomes very complex and your view on this will likely be a decider if this series is for you (well, that and your interest in graphic M/M sex). Ten Count isn't a story of love so much as codependency. As always, the art is superb and perfectly captures the 'stillness' of their characters' outside appearances in contrast to the turmoil underneath. With this volume, we begin to see more of the enigmatic Kurose's point of view - in little throw away lines that become more significant by volume 4. So yes, this is a series that will divide readers - if they decide to continue past volume 3, the sex tones down a bit as the focus is more on Kurose and why he pursues Shirotani. And yes, being a Westerner I was both ambivalent and uncomfortable with this Volume 3 read. Reviewed from an advance reader copy provided by the publisher.

but not as bad as the last volume

We got a little glimpse into Shirotani's past, I look forward to that little scene being built upon. Still a little rapey...but not as bad as the last volume. Shirotani seems to be taking the lead a bit more instead of Kurose forcing everything. I do wonder if Shirotani's condition is improving at all...or if that's just Kurose not taking no for an answer.

Love

Just as great as the last two book i read. So far I read it five times from book 1 to 3 can wait to get ten count vol. 4 I hope it comes out soon :-)
