Just what IS a "survivalist family"? instead of "survivalist family" we could say "prepared family" or talk about "family preparedness" but that is just so politically correct it makes one sick. Just because the media don't like survivalists and therefore vilify them does not mean we have to change our language. For our purposes, the Survivalist Family is defined as, "A multi-generational group of people living in one house (usually consisting of a father, mother and their offspring) who take positive steps as a cohesive group to prepare for possible future negative situations and circumstances beyond their control." This book will guide you through all that is necessary to be prepared for future uncertainty.

Only useful for the compendium, and a couple recommendations.

I'd be very surprised if there is anyone who bought this book that isn't a fan of the authors youtube channel, and after going through it I'm just going to tell myself that this was a donation to pastor Joe. It feels like the first 2/3rds of the book (which is fairly short) is geared towards parenting and relationsips, getting the spouse and kids on board. The other 3rd is a few sections on gear and philosiphy of use, which is somewhat helpful, but much too breif. There is also a list of recommended starter preps at the end for the check box preppers. Go ahead and get it if you want to support the creator, or but otherwise I'd recommend just checking out his youtube channel Viking Preparedness to get the same info in video format for free.

Finally! Advice which is doable today, and doesn't cost a fortune!

I'm biased for the author because I already like him from his Youtube videos at Viking Preparedness channel, and from his even BETTER posts on Patreon at his Viking Preparedness channel. Joe Fox is a retired Major from Army Special Forces, but he totally doesn't brag about it. He speaks in a humble, straightforward style with a reliance on God, but also an understanding that we need to take action ourselves to prepare for hard times. Joe Fox ridicules the current craze of armchair survivalists spending lots of money on "TechniCool" equipment. He emphasizes that we should purchase a few key items for the lowest price we can find, make the rest of our preps ourselves, and get really expert at using them. He closes every Youtube and Patreon video with the motto "Do the best you can, with what you've got, where you're at today. I'll see ya out there." And that is the practical wisdom you'll find in this book Survivalist Family.

Disaster preparation for common people

I have struggled for a few months trying to get direction for preparing my family and friends for a disaster. Searching websites and reading books was confusing and many were all doom and gloom without the content I was looking for! This book was different. It gave me tools, direction and a plan! It was an easy read, I felt comfortable with the author and after a bit of research actually started following the guy on social media and he gained my trust! His book is no nonsense direction for people looking to prepare for a disaster with little or no experience!

Common sense advise for uncertain times

I purchased Pastor Joe Fox's book to learn more about making preparations for emergencies.it. I wasn't disappointed. An easy read, his book explains how to prepare for emergencies from a faith-based perspective. Highly recommended.

Timely appropriate

Are you prepared for a future Pandemic? He really asked that question in 2010 and here we are in 2020 with a world wide economy crushing pandemic. It’s a good read. I follow Pastor Joe Fox on YouTube and Patreon and enjoy both his style and information. He sets himself apart from the standard prepper writer by being much more nuanced and open minded in his assessment of information. You may find the book lacking some quick solutions to throw money at, but that’s the beauty of Joe Fox, his goals are long term, not short term. Enjoy the read and OOHMP

This is an excellent, clearly written and practical guide for everyone

This is an excellent, clearly written and practical guide for everyone, not just for the Rambos of the world, but for YOU. Written in un-scarry, non-jargony language, Joe Fox steps you through realistic and "do-able" steps that you can take, even on a budget, to get ready for whatever comes next. I love this book and recommend it to anyone concerned about the future.

Experienced guidance to be used and tailored to fit your needs by your practice

Excellent 101 and 201 knowledge which if applied with repeated practice can guide anyone to each person's tailored personal use. Try each of the suggestions and with experience you learn what works best. For each item you think you need, consider what your alternative would be if you did not have that item. Improvise using what you do have and where you are at since you can't always afford to carry two of everything nor can you normally afford it. A lot of experienced guidance within the book with the long term goal of homesteading and living ...dare I say it ... without Starbucks!?

Lots of important information and very to-the-point. It really sheds light on all the areas of preparedness we need to be aware of in order to avoid being a burden on others, and gives suggestions on what skills will be of high value when the time comes.

A MUST READ FOR ANYONE CONCERNED ABOUT DISASTER READINESS

Americans concerned even about severe natural disasters need to read this book. Prepare youselves for whatever tragic occurance comes along and you will be better off than those who just let things happen hoping that the authorities will come and rescue them. Remember you are your own best first responder.

Great book for anyone that wants to be prepared.

I follow Pastor Joe on patreon at Viking preparedness. He mentioned recently on an interview that he did on the prepping 2.0 podcast that he had written a boook a few years back. So I just had to check it out. I'm glad I did. The book is well written and very informative. There is plenty of information for someone that is just getting started and for someone that has already been prepping for awhile. I'm thinking of picking up a few extra copies for friends.

Very detailed

I gave this to a family member that was a little concerned about the current state of affairs in our great nation. This book gives some basic advice that would help everyone. Following it you would not have run out of toilet paper. Plus you will not need to go to the grocery store so frequently.

A MUST Read!

Awesome book PJ, loved it as well as your Patreon channel Viking Preparedness. You remind me alot of myself, it's like we are brothers on the same path, I feel like I know you. GOD BLESS YOU! I'll see you up there brother! M&M Overland Adventures Matthew & Maricela

Excellent for all levels of preparedness

Wether your a beginner or an experienced prepper, this book is an excellent read through. Many ideas on several subjects from supplies to getting your family members on board. Joe Fox has been living this life style for many years so it’s not just ideas but true knowledge.

Written in the style that Pastor Joe speaks in his videos. Covers a whole lot of territory just as he said it would. So a great resource to check in from time to time to see if you really are on the preparedness path

Good read

Title kind of says it all. Pastor Joe Fox is a retired special forces officer with years of experience in 3rd world assignments. This is not a tactical training guide. The emphasis is on planning and safety for your family.

A LOT of knowledge here

Beginner or advanced, this is a great book. It's especially good if you need to get someone on board.

Dont be left unprepared!

Great book, everything you need to know about being prepared for when the SHTF, emergencies, natural disasters, food shortages, etc. Dont be left unprepared for what may be down the road, be prepared!

Great book!

Wonderful book written by Pastor Joe. I enjoy his YouTube channel VikingPreparedness so when he recommended his book I figured I'd get it. Worth it because there's a wealth of knowledge and it is well done. I can glean off a wise man and learn about preparedness.

Good overview of preparedness

Good basic overview of family preparedness. Pastor Joe is a good dude. I am also one of his Patreon subscribers for ongoing updates from him. Always full of practical, useful information.

Highly Recommend

Absolutely Love This Book Highly Recommend The author [Joe Fox] has an excellent channel on YouTube and Patreon called Viking Preparedness HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

Good ideas

Well-written preparedness manual. Especially good ideas for families with young kids but everyone should prepare in case of a natural disaster.

The Pastor in paperback is every bit as charismatic as his videos!

There's not a lot of new information in this book for preppers, and quite frankly I feel the editing could have been better due to so many typos and misspellings (as a retired teacher I notice these things), but Mr. Fox's humor and quick wit is evident and entertaining, which is why I read the book all the way through. Additionally, his good nature and Christian backing adds to the overall content making this a book that, ironically, I will read again. There are few non-fiction books I read for entertainment purposes, but this book evidently shows Mr. Fox's true character which is refreshing, enjoyable, and down-right entertaining. I'd put it right up there with "Duck Dynasty" shows. Also, I was quite surprised to see that Mr. Fox has a very impressive bio which explains why he is so knowledgeable about prepping, survival techniques, and staying on top of the country's current events. He is a man who knows his subject matter very well, and due to that honest approach I feel confident that everything he has revealed in this book are tried and true techniques that will work for anyone. My husband and I truly enjoy watching his online prepping videos and the book pretty much follows the same flavor. Yes, I am sharing this book (sorry for cutting back on your royalties a bit, Joe) and my friends seem every bit as entertained as we were. Good job, Pastor Joe! I would have given this book five stars were it not for the typos and misspellings.

A great book for families

A wonderful book for the beginner and intermediate for making plans for YOUR future. Great advice, but remember, you must act on his advice to make your future better.

Succinct Expertise

Everything you need to know and none of the fluff or BS that most “experts” pride themselves on. Former Green Beret Joe Fox knows his stuff and doesn’t waste your time.

A must-read for anyone even remotely thinking of 1. how to get prepared 2. what all this preparedness thing is all about 3. if they are going about things on the right path. Get it, read it, pass it on.

Down to earth

This is a great, down to earth book for anyone who is interested in being prepared for the unavoidable events that life throws your way.

Good topic with many valid ideas

Pastor Joe Fox wrote this easy to follow prepper/survivalist guideline.

Good guide.

Good book, full of useful info. Joe Fox knows what he is talking about.

Real well written and a commons sense approach to survive.

Easy to follow . Timeless . Applies to natural and man made situation . He has a web site, YouTube and premier patron web site for more advice.

Must read

This book is absolutely amazing. If you want to prepare for life’s change then this is a must read. Well done!

Great benchmark.

Excellent guidebook, especially for those new to preparedness, but also good for folks with more experience to use to double check that all of their Ts are crossed and Is are dotted.

Very good information for beginners.

If you know nothing about prepping and are just starting a family, this is a very good starter resource.

Great read for beginners.

Like the titles says it's a great book for when you are just starting to prepare. The cover can scare off some people, but it still is loaded with lots of good information. In my opinon this book should be read before Rawles's book on preparing. I have read both but think that Rales book can come across as overwhelming. Either way both are great books. Also check out the author's YouTube channel @ vikingpreparedness...

Excellent

Excellent info . Gets you really thinking. If you are new to the idea of prepping, this covers every aspect. If you are an old hand, there are some tremendous reminders in here.

Well written, useful info!

Pastor Joe does a remarkably good job at making a basic preparedness book. This should be on everyone's shelf - after reading it, of course!

Five Stars

good book

If your new to preparedness this is a very good book to purchase and have on hand

If your new to preparedness this is a very good book to purchase and have on hand. If you have been preparing for years there is still plenty of wisdom contained inside. It offers good suggestions for dealing with a reluctant spouse or significant other.

An efficient read.

The knowledge Joe Fox passes on to the reader is invaluable. If put into practice, not only would a parent feel more secure and prepared but, same goes for your loved ones.

A good read

Excellent for those who are just getting into prepping

Okay

Okay but I expected more.

this author really knows what he's talking about

great book. really valuable. I recommend this other very highly.

Easy to read

It was quite a comprehensive book on preparedness. Everything I expected. Easy to read.

Worth it.

A straight forward and organized read on how to get yourself and family on the same page. Focuses on the important issues on how to effectively better prepare your family for times of duress. You can tell that this book wasn't written about by some desk jockey, rather from PJF own personal experiences, making everything that much more realistic. I'd recommend it to anyone, regardless of level of experience in these matters. Worth every penny.

GREAT BOOK

Love the author who is an ex-vet and devout Christian who I watch on YouTube

Five Stars

Love this book so practical.

Great book !

I love this book ! A no nonsense, practical way to get started with prepping ! And love pastor Joe Fox !

Read this before TEOTWAWKI, or the next big disaster.

Really great. I loved it. As Joe Fox says "Even the Government suggests you have preparations for 3 days to 2 weeks. Those folks after Hurricane Katrina found out how long it takes the Government to respond to an emergency" Easy and fun to read. Very comprehensive, and Joe Fox is quite comfortable saying "I tried this and I did not like it, but some folks do" or "I know someone who tried this and he says watch for xxx" or "I have not tried this, but here is the description. Try it yourself, before the balloon goes up, if this is going to be part of your plan". BTW, the photo on the front cover is "tongue in cheek", and not Joe Fox.

Must have

Highly recommend this book!

Very informative on what to do in preparation for an emergency.

A lot of good stuff, you got to be in extremely good health, and physically fit to be able to implement all the things in the book.

Breaks it down easy 1-2-3

I love this book brother Joe Fox broke it down to simplicity. He gives easy ways to prepare for an natural or national disaster!

Awesome!

Great wisdom and usable information. I highly recommend this book for anyone wanting to be prepared for whatever may come our way.

Don't leave home without this book

Very informative survival book. This book covers everything a beginner needs to prepare for a survival emergency whether it's man made or mother nature. The contents is very easy to read and understand. The best part about this book is that Pastor Joe makes YouTube videos that are like updates to this books theme. I highly recommend this book.

Great jumping off info

Very helpful information to get started as well as for those who are "sort of" prepared and need a few steps ferther on their road to being prepared.

WRITTEN BY A GREAT AND HONORABLE MAN

MY PASTOR, WRITTEN BY A GREAT AND HONORABLE MAN. JOE FOX.

Good book

Well written with a great point of view.

Five Stars

excellent book, lots to think about!

Five Stars

Love it

I think it would prove most useful if you are young

Only Ok, because as a older grandmother who had parents and family who had carpentry, repair, gardening and hunting skills, I knew all but a few things in this book.(I also have a mini hobby farm and animals and gardening skills). Most is common sense. I also lived throught the 70's Carter recession and gas shortages as a young adult. I think it would prove most useful if you are young, have no skills other than 'school', in which case it is a basic common sense course. I did learn 2 things. One milk cartons are not to be used for anything , other than my grandkids helmets for playing sword fights. (it explains why the paint I put in one leaked the next year, and why when I fill them and use them for pool tarp anchors they fall apart.... but, I kinda learned that... I do appreciate his video channel and he has some basic common sense without the Macho, "gorilla huffing" that seems to be on some of the other survivalist channels..... but then I am a 'farming grandmother', so I tend to gravitate to those with more experience than 20 yr. old. something "children"......

Practical Family Insurance

Some believe the stereotype of survivalists as gloomy and pessimistic. But who could be more optimistic than someone who believes he can help his family survive the worst of life's possible catastrophes? The author of this book is a God fearing, law abiding and hard working Everyman who sees the dangers and uncertainties in our modern life and has written a book for others like him to help them prepare for whatever is in our future, good or bad. Those who read the title and expect raving paranoia will be disappointed. Mr Fox is a retired Special Forces officer, Boy Scout leader, and community volunteer who has seen bad times come to people around the world, some prepared and some not, and has learned from their example. Those who expect most of the book to be weapon oriented will again be let down. Guns are mentioned briefly, but the book is mostly geared to more mundane but highly practical subjects such as lostproofing your children, valuing skills over "Buying Stuff", food storage, hygiene, tools, evacuation kits, and most important, building a healthy family unit that supports and encourages each other during bad times and good. The information in this book can help every family deal with problems in the news everyday, including floods, hurricanes, extended power outages, blizzards, terrorist attacks, economic disaster and many more. Considering how expensive being unprepared for life's more serious problems can be, this book is a bargain.

One of the two or three best basic survivalist/prepping books

One of the two or three best basic survivalist/prepping books I've read over the past few years. Good basic down to earth information, all well organized that makes sense. No crazy discussions on the virtues of this caliber rifle versus another, none of the world is ending tomorrow at noon and unless you do the following five things you and yours will die. Joe Fox does make several solid realistic observations about becoming prepared that makes this book really worth reading. Again, if you are new to the idea of prepping and if you haven't read your first how to prep book this would be the one. For me the Kindle price seems outrageous, but if you can get it on your Kindle Unlimited subscription do so.

Excellent reference book

I've worked at being prepared for anything and fared better than my neighbors during a record flood in South Louisiana. This book is, in my opinion, the best overall startup book I've ever seen. It starts at the bases of "do this first, second etc." Most important, get your family involved! I'd recommend this instruction manual to anybody.

Quick but valuable read

Huge fan of pastor Joe's YouTube channel where he referenced this book. Highly recommended for the beginner to intermediate prepper. Appreciated the focus on family aspects of prepardness.

Best book for the new prepper

This is an incredibly easy-to-follow book, complete with lists and priorities. It emphasizes doing instead of buying and uses real life examples to explain why many tasks are emphasized over others. At 195 pages it's not difficult to read and it won't provide earth-shattering secrets to make you Rambo overnight. It focuses on the basics that most of us forget because we're too busy whacking at the trees to see the forest. I have a good library and this is the book that everyone should start with. If you are already an experienced prepper then you should still buy two copies of the book. One to make sure you've covered the basics, and the other to give to your friends who still think the government will save them during the next natural disaster.

Some good common sense basics

Normally I thumb through survival books to get to the "meat and potatoes" of what I need additional information on. But this book is an enjoyable read from start to finish with some good big picture wisdom we all need in our pursuit of disaster preparedness.

Best Book I've read on this topic to date.

I believe that this book is an excellent piece for anyone who who is in any way concerned with: 1. Natural Disasters 2. FEMA recommendations to have a "72" hour kit. 3. The Economy 4. Wilderness survival 5. Having a child get lost in the woods while camping. Not all of these things will concern everyone, but if one or more of them concern you, this is the book to buy. Instead of telling you what to fear, this book tells you what to DO. How to plan, how to prepare, how to DO. If you have ever wondered about or considered any of these things as something that can affect you it is downright silly for you not to buy this book.

Good info

This book is packed with basic instructions for surviving whatever emergencies may arise. It I not filled with mambo jumbo but real useful “stuff”.

survivalist family should be on your bookshelf -after you read it

survivalist family by joe fox i think this book will be the "tappan on survival " for this decade . easy to read common sense guide to helping people get on down the road of preparedness . small steps everyone can do if they have the will to make sure that there family survives what comes at them . i have a book case full of survival /preparedness books if i had to pick one book to give someone this would be the one. i already have some ideas i have gotten from this book that i am going to add to my plans not a doom and gloom book , a stuff happens to good people this is how you handle it .

Wow! Great book

In trying times it is not time to be trying to get prepared. This book helps you get there so you can focus on your family and safety in difficult times.

Great

Great resource for all from newbies to all. Everyone can learn something about preparedness from this book. This is a great book for all

Every family should own a copy

Whether you are a beginner or professional prepper, this book has something to offer you! Many tips, lessons and practices to keep your family safe and prepared.

Five Stars

Great book from a great American.

DO NOT BUY.

This guy definitely sat down and wrote whatever came into his mind, and it is very bad, if insultingly obvious advice. There are a couple sections just laughable in their real-emergency applicable use. My husband's favorite.... Emergency food: (first on the list) POP TARTS. My personal favorite "Got soap? Know how to make it? Now is as good a time as any to learn. That is beyond the scope of this book but the information is readily available on the internet. My wife makes lovely lye soap about twice a year - it's just the thing for greasy hands." What is this, a book to teach you things or a book to brag about his wife making soap and to go check it out on the internet? Anyways, runner up stupid paragraph goes to : "I have heard some bad things about cooking with aluminum pots- stuff like it can cause Alzheimer's or something. I have no idea if this is true or not but we did get rid of all of our aluminum pots save the large camp pot and we don't use that one every day. You do your own research and make your own decisions here." This book is so, so bad and as the author implies, you can figure out all of this stuff on the internet, with much better prose. P.S.Felt bad donating this book

he's a good stand up all round fella from point of view
