It is a scam! Please take the information very carefully!

I bought this book at my local bookstore, hoping to learn about 'superfoods" around the world. I wanted to see if there were any amazing fruits or vegetables that I could try. Just for the fun of experimenting new flavors. I am a graduate student in biology, and come from a megadiverse country, where we have ancient knowledge on certain foods that are beneficial for human consumption. This book is the classic example of how people, who unfortunately have a very influential position, use science incorrectly to prove their point no matter what. I started reading this book and got upset pretty fast, within the first pages. I continued reading, just to give it the benefit of the doubt. BUT!! It just keeps giving erroneous information, discrediting science by using controversial experiments, that generate debates within the scientific community. The first major mistake I found was suggesting people to consume distilled water... For those of you who are not familiar with what distilled water is, very briefly is water with a high purity. This means that the normal minerals, that water contains, get removed by several different processes. If we consume this type of water it can remove all of our essential salts and minerals, due to the concentration gradient. That is why Darin says that he mixes it with Himalayan salt, and some other stuff. Please avoid consuming distilled water because it can be perjudicial for you health. Then he goes on and talks about alkalinization, with different foods (there is a list towards the back of the book). Please just google the pH of the fruis he includes there. Just as a major lie, he mentions tangerine (which is from the citric family). By doing a quick search we can find that Tangerine is the most acidic fruit from that family (has a pH lower than 7, which is neutral). This was the point when I decided to just throw away this book. Also, the body has a very precise and fine pH regulation, that keeps us functioning properly. It goes from 7.35 - 7.45 (slightly alkaline). This means that no matter what we eat or drink, we cannot modify our internal pH, and if we do so, we would need medical attention. I do not know what else is hiding inside this book, but I do not recommend it at all!

Informative!!

I've been drinking Shakeology since 2014 and love the way it makes me feel. I finally bought this book since Darin is the creator of Shakeology. This book is probably the best and most informative book I have read regarding our health and nutrition! Definitely a must to keep on hand and I'll most likely be reading it again.

Propaganda full of false information

If you’re interested in reading vegan propaganda filled with cherry picked “science” to further the argument, this book is for you. For background, I have a degree in biochemistry, and a doctorate degree in pharmacology. So, when I saw a book about superfoods (I believe in healthy eating) that’s supposedly researched and science-based, I was intrigued. To my disappointment I found this to be a complete misguided scam. First off, the book is so wordy and poorly written it’s hard to read. The author repeats his same points and phrases over and over, frequently in back to back paragraphs. It’s obvious that the author doesn’t have enough concrete information to share, so he utilized a TON of filler to complete the book. This can be cut to quarter of the size to get all the points across. Let’s get to the best part, junk science, and plain old incorrect scientific statements. In order to try to appear credible, this author tries to cite various “studies” throughout the book to prove his point. Without dissecting all of them I will just say that a lot of his “studies” rely on anecdotal evidence, and of course he cherry picked the ones that further his agenda. However, he didn’t stop there. He offered plain old wrong information in multiple places. Here are a few examples: 1) He recommends to drink distilled water. Are you kidding me?? Distilled water has all the dissolved solids (which includes ions and minerals crucial to our survival) removed completely. If you drink distilled water only, this can lead to disruption of electrolyte balance (since you’re not replacing what you lost in sweat), fluid imbalance and throw off your blood pH due to lack of salts. This might be the most idiotic, not to mention medically unsafe, advice I ever heard. 2) In one section of the book where he goes off about never eating grains again he mentions that “gluten consumption has been proven to cause celiac disease”. Huh?!?! Celiac disease is a genetic auto immune disorder!! Gluten consumption triggers symptoms of the disease, it doesn’t cause it. Aside from blatant fallacies the author is simply pushing vegan propaganda and is not even attempting to be balanced in his approach. Every step of the way he paints meat as evil and disease causing and plants as the answer. If the book is about veganism it would be ethical to disclose that in the title or on the cover. This failure to disclose up front is an offensive manipulation of consumers to purchase a product (book) that’s essentially mislabeled. But then again, if he actually had good or accurate medical facts, maybe he wouldn’t have a fear of being honest on the cover.

Advice on Living Your Best Life!

I’ve been following a vegan diet for over 10 years, and while I try to eat as healthy as possible, I love learning about new and different theories. The 5 Forces reopened my eyes to many additional things I can be implementing to stay healthy. I highly recommend this book to anyone, vegan or not, who strives to better understand their body and live a healthier life.

Such a great book. I am a beachbody coach and I absolutely LOVE shakeology but reading this from the creator of Shakeology was just the best decision I have made. It basically breaks it down into steps to have a healthier lifestyle, lose weight, feel happier & more energetic, clean and detox your body and just be "eternally awesome" :) Do yourself a favor and READ THIS BOOK - life changer!

Simply "Super" read for anyone seeking greater health and wellness

My only regret about this book is that it did not exist when my health journey started 3 years ago! Every spare moment I have had these last few years has been spent reading and studying food and its affects on our bodies. Because we are all so different it's very hard to know what to follow. Everything I have covered has landed me right where Darin takes you in this book, cover to cover the most concise yet very detailed bible of healthy "SUPERLIFE". I love the way Darin makes it real, you know the man knows his stuff just by the way it is presented. It's broken down and simple for anyone to pick up and begin making changes to feeling better. Highly recommend this read for beginners on the road to health as well as those who think they are doing all they can already, it will likely teach you a few new ideas. Thank you Darin Olien!

Total Genius with Practical Applications

SUPERLIFE IS SUPER!! Darin Olien is a total genius in his writing style and delivery. I highly recommend this book for every person you know. Darin shares from the heart and provides a road map on how you can live a Superlife too. Whether it be recipes, advice in life, practical changes or just pure awesomeness. This book is an easy read that is fresh, fun and delivers. Superlife is intelligent and yet does not come across as arrogant of preaching. Darin is the real deal and he has real answers that can help you live a better life starting today. Shhhhhh don't tell anyone but you are sure to learn many things during the fun journey of this book. Yes, there is practical application in all areas of your life and tid bits of knowledge that will have you with your jaw on the floor. Amazing Book! I bought several more copies for gift giving!

Finally, a health/nutrition/fitness book with a sense of joy and fun and love of life instead of the usual doom and gloom doctors ordering us around and making good food and exercise sound like medicine. They're not! They're what keep us alive and juicy. Darin Olien is the real thing, and his advice is all scientifically sound, but he makes it sound cool. "Who do you want to give your money to, the doctor or the grocer, the farmer or the pharmacist?" Exactly! I'm buying more than one and giving them to the people I love.

I took so many notes from this book and really enjoyed it and learned a lot. i shared a lot of it with my teammates and customers online and they liked the content as well. Easy to read, loved the resources at the end and lists. Makes you really want to overhaul your life and gave me so much more passion for living a clean life.

A Superlife Can Be Achieved

I got tuned in to Darin thru the NETFLIX show 'Down to Earth'. I love his podcast and generally his all-around style of parting information. His knowledge is deep, and to question that is simply ridiculous. However, I will say this: if you are just mow beginning your journey into a plant based world, exercise, knowledge, and hydration then this book is ABSOLUTELY for you. It is what I will refer to in the future as the ;must read' primer for anyone ready to step on the journey to great health. unfortunately, I have been on this ride for a little while, so some of this was a little repetitive for me (not that re-emphasizing the basics isn't important; because it is). I found myself skipping around a little bit to seek out information I had not already learned on my own through independent research or trial and error. The end of the book was better suited for me as I had wonderful information about various foods, recipes, and a menu. Here is why I will recommend this book to anyone interested. I think Darin really cares about the subject and the folks he shares it with. Are we not all ready for some positive energy and good healthy suggestions on living a healthier life? A 'kick-ass' life? It's a good read and worth the time. Be safe and be well.

Gave me permission to live a Superlife

The thing I like most about this book is that it gives me permission to just agree that feeding the body well, hydrating, resting it, exercising it and adopting the paradigm that if you just lead with health - all other things fall into place. Im a long time fitness enthusiast on the windy journey to better health - I take the current info and try to process it and lead a better life - but I have to admit - I have had a few barriers when it comes to committing to better sources, better quality over convenience, taste, habit & desire...it is hard to be healthy - but we are worth it. And as a mom, I dont want to pick and choose what my kids do if it just suits me...I want them to start young with good habits - and yes - live in moderation but also live a superlife...that is what I liked most about this book...that I have permission to look at life from leading with health...the information was not all verifiable, and some of the studies used were remote and specific and even some of the advice was simplistic - but overall - I thought some of the more complex body systems were well explained - not too hard, not dumbed down...in terms I understand and can wrap my head around. Superlife is a book that would be great if it was an audio as I would like to listen to it in the car!!!

Stay Fit!

Really been into fitness since I quit drinking alcohol almost 5years a go and just love learning new things and so glad to be on the healthy side of life now! Only into the second life force and least I drink plenty of water and know what statistic column I’m in, also makes me wish I cld/shld grow my own garden for the best nutrition! Also shout out to Darin the author because he was born next to the town I was Owatonna,Mn he was born in Waseca,Mn!

Not my favorite book for a more plant-based lifestyle

Not my favorite book for a more plant-based lifestyle. A little depressing at times as far as what we should be eating drinking because some of those things aren't accessible as they are to someone with more financial means. Still a good read though.

Hooked within the intro

Just the intro alone had me hooked. The way he speaks and his vision! But then this turns to really be one of the best diet books - not because it tells you what to eat or not but it tells you really deep into why! Why we should eat a certain way, what benefits it would have besides a typical weight loss. And I don't need to loose weight, I just want my body to work and work well - all the way through my 80s would be great! I look at my grandparents hope that I am in better shape than them. I hope to be like Sylvia Earle, still diving and exploring ...so how do I do that? Not with junk food, America Food, or the American mindset.

Could be written in an article

This book could be written in article, or maybe a paragraph. Eat a whole foods, plant based diet, go outside and exercise, breathe deeply, avoid all processed sugar/carbs. That's almost all of the main content of this book, in my opinion.

Good Read

A friend of mine recommended this and honestly it was a good read. Different. It opened my eyes to a lot of things regarding the science of your body (hydration, food etc). I liked it. My goal was to educate myself on some new things regarding health and wellness and I definitely learned some things. I recommend it. You might not follow everything they talk about in the book but it will make you more aware of what you are consuming and what you can do for a healthier body etc

Highly recommend it!

This book has been an eye opener for me. It is so well written. It explains how important what you eat, drink and such. I used to suffer from migraines and in the process of reading this book I examined my everyday habits/choices and by eating healthier I realized that my migraines was a lifestyle consequence. I feel so good today. I am full of energy, feel healthy and no migraines or any kind of headaches. I am so happy I have stumbled on this book. Big Thank You!!!

This book was very disappointing!

I saw an interview with the writer on Tamron Hall show. It piqued my interest so I bought the kindle version. I found the writer to be arrogant, citing way too many stiudies, and suggesting obscure ingredients that the average health conscious person will never buy. He suggests eating local, but goes to the ends of the earth to locate ingredients that promote longevity in that region. I quickly grew agitated with his narrative and returned the book, but was unable to get a refund. To say that he’s fanatical is an understatement!

Useful book

I really liked this book. It really motivated me to clean up my diet. I have been incorporating many of the ideas in this book. He does sound a little bit elitist in the way he comes across, but overall I think it is a good read. His ideas are a bit drastic I think, but you don’t have to go completely raw in your food choices to get improved benefits in your body. I almost always get rid of books once I have read them, but I will keep this one and refer back to it when necessary.

Great book for motivation to choose healthy

Of course after seeing Down To Earth I looked Darin’s book up. I am so glad I bought it. I needed motivation to get healthy again. This book has lots of great tips, recipes and motivates you to choose healthy.

Empowering you to take control of your own health.

I know I am feeling better already by implementing some of what Darin is teaching in this book. I feel so much more empowered and informed when grocery shopping now. I by no means am mastering all the lessons, but appreciate Darin's encouraging words of taking a couple of steps at a time. Small changes over time make big differences! I value the research and studies Darin uses to further validate his findings for better living. It is unbelievable and discouraging how riddled with sickness and disease our modern world is. Darin brings light to the difference between real nutrition and what we have been lead to believe is good for us. I highly recommend taking control of your health and realizing you have another option than the well-traveled path that continues to lead to failed results. And the best part, you don't have to eat cardboard flavored crap to do it!

Endless enthusiasm

Darin is a great communicator and cheerleader for better life choices and life styles. I value a lot of his practical advice and the detailed information he provides here. I don't agree with 100%but that's fine. A worth while book.

Pages falling out

This book is full of amazing information as to why we need to eat better, exercise, and drink more water. It's well written and easy to understand. I purchased two copies of the book. Numerous pages on my copy are falling out as I read the book for the first time. The second copy I purchased as a gift has no issues.

Edible Enlightenment

This book breaks down your body in a way you've never thought about before, but everyone should know and have a clear understanding of. I highly recommend watching Darin in "Down to Earth w/ Zac Efron" on Netflix first to understand his mindset and where's he's coming from with his purpose for sharing this mind-blowing information. This is true inspiration to improve your life, with easy steps laid out for you to follow, and is a must read for everyone who is looking to do so. As with all advice, simply take what you like from it and leave anything you don't...what you do take will in fact make you feel eternally awesome.

Great, informative, inspiring! Has some recipes and eating plans in the back. Love this book, and after watching the Netflix documentary with Zack Efron, Darin’s book was the icing on the cake!

I was introduced to Darin Olien after watching the Netflix documentary, "Down to Earth" with Zac Efron. This book explains the many benefits of living a higher quality life by understanding the basic necessity of what our bodies truly need and what would maximize our health. Darin was able to put it in a very simple and clear way of the importance of eating a whole foods diet and drinking clean water. This was a very enjoyable and educational read!

Our amazing bodies!

I feel that SUPERLIFE is just that, the bible for living your best healthy life internally and externally. It should be a must read for every grade school child. This book gives you a clear look as to how our bodies and organs work together to keep us living long healthy lives which no school does. EXCELLENT!

Insightful, Informative and Informal

Quick and great read. Some refreshers on general health but, engaging, fun, and very informative. If you're looking to further your nutrition knowledge, want to live a healthier life, and find ways to incorporate healthier habits.... read this book! I learned a lot on alkalinity! I certainly am more aware of our bodies balance of pH!

Great Book, a definite recommend

Although I haven’t finished the book yet, it is already an easy read. There is also so much more to the book than I thought. I would recommend this to anyone that wants more info about the food they put into their mouth.

I am only half way through at the moment but just have to say this book is an eye opener! I have read tons of similar articles, studies and books all related to what Darin talks about but none in this manner. The content is very good ....I’d recommend to anyone who would like to improve their diet. However, the printing quality is not acceptable....parts are not legible....Lite inking on many of the pages makes it difficult to read.....especially the recipes.
