Strange Magic - The Cleopatra Hill Series
Zoe Sandoval is the primas in waiting for the de la Paz wizarding family. She is also frustrated by the fact she still hasn’t met her consort. She has had to kiss so many guys, as is the tradition and requirement for finding this special man for her future. Well not willing to keep waiting Zoe decides to use some old magic from a spell book. Oops!! Not a great idea and the results are terrifying. Evan McAllister, of the McAllister clan is called upon to try and sort Zoe’s mess out. The story is enjoyable and moves well, as we read how Evan and Zoe must try and eliminate the creation Zoe brought into existence. All sorts of mayhem befalls the warlock and witch as nothing seems to get rid of the creature. All the while Zoe and Evan realize they are not just fighting the creature, but possible feelings for each other. A great story and a very satisfying and wonderful end for all involved. Always a good read!
Having read all the Cleopatra Hill books so far - still have a few to read - I have enjoyed escaping to my own little fairyland. The witches have somehow become friends and I enjoy hearing about their lives and adventures. Most of Christine Pope's books do this for me and they are my joy.
Love it!
Just like the rest of the series, this book does not disappoint. You find out more about the De La Paz clan and how hard finding a consort can be. You also find out a little more about Evan McAllister's past. It's nice to see the families coming together. Strange Magic keeps you intwined and interested in what is going to happen next. I couldn't put it down. Can't wait for the next book in the series to come out.
Always a good read!
I love all of Christine Pope's series, but I started with Witches of Cleopatra Hill and the characters have a very special place in my heart. Together, they overcome difficult situations in every story. They struggle with ordinary problems, and very extraordinary ones. They are real, honest, and it is fun to join in their adventures! I highly recommend every book in this series, but start from the beginning! If you enjoy supernatural adventures, you'll love these :)
Wonderful Romantic Series with Paranormal Features
I love all of the books in this series, including this latest one. Zoe is a strong figure who also is a bit rebellious. As prima-in-waiting, she has certain responsibilities and restrictions. She chafes under them and attempts to short-cut a process, leading to potentially disastrous results. Lovely descriptions of the setting in and around Scottsdale and up in the mountains (a constant across the series). Eagerly awaiting the next book!
My review
Interesting way of working Evan into the forefront of both clans. Very good way to handle Levi without using crime to kill him off.
Fun reading
This book was fun to read and I hated to put it down. I do feel like I kept waiting for Evan to do what he was sent there to do, but it seemed Zoe could take care of herself and only needed Evan to repeat the words he learned from Zoe's uncle. But all in all, a fun read.
I have read through one of her other series and found this series and fell in love with it too
Christine Pope is an incredible writer. Her books are addicting. I have read through one of her other series and found this series and fell in love with it too. I like that she incorporates real places and things into her books along with the fantasy.

I love to read these series. They're exciting to me and I find myself routing for who gets together with who!
Just love, love, love this series
The only thing I hated about this book was that it had to come to an end. I loved everything else about the book and the whole series.
Amazing versatility in setting up the situations for the prima's in waiting.
Difficult to do when there are so many factors that are intrinsic to their situations. Enjoy the whole concept and how she keeps it fresh and new yet familiar.
Loved it!
Great storyline with an unexpected ending. I'd recommend this book to any avid reader. I can't wait to continue the series.

Zoe Sandoval is the prima-in-waiting of the de la Paz witch clan. With her 22nd birthday quickly approaching, she is desperate to find her consort, the man that fate decrees will be her match and awaken her prima powers. If she doesn’t connect with him before she turns 22, she will not reach her full potential, which would make her, and by connection her clan, weaker. In desperation, she uses a spell to summon her ideal man to be her consort. Instead, she summons a monster who then causes havoc all over the area. Evan McAllister is a “fixer” who is called in to help when spells go awry. There is an instant connection between him and Zoe, but divorced and from another clan, he could never be a prima’s consort. Or could he? It was hard to imagine that Zoe could be so foolish as to actually think that she could create her perfect man through a spell. True, she was desperate, but why don’t these witch clans do a better job of helping their primas-in-waiting get through this humiliating time? Angela went through the same thing in the first book of the series. Zoe does use the excuse that her late grandmother, a former prima, did not have a spectacular marriage with the consort that fate chose for her, but that seems to be the only instance of a bad match. Even so, trying to create a man through a spell?? Hopefully Zoe will do a lot of growing up before she takes over as prima. I liked that we got to see more of the de la Paz clan, and Evan’s brief appearance in the earlier Christmas novella now makes sense. Another enjoyable read in this fun series! I received an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Great book!
Strange Magic Review The seventh book in the Witches of Cleopatra Hill series by Christine Pope ranks up there with my favorites of her books and I’ve read a lot of them. I wasn’t really sure what to expect since there were a number of ways she could have taken the story. I was pleasantly surprised to see a couple plot twists, one in particular, that I really didn’t see coming. One of these days I’ll stop being surprised by these things. Christine is one of the best writers in romantic fiction that I’ve read over the years. She has an amazing imagination and it’s so much fun to see it at work time and again. This book is about reluctant prima-in-waiting Zoe Sandoval of the de la Paz clan and warlock Evan McAllister. Zoe has a problem. It’s less than two weeks until her 22nd birthday and tradition dictates that she find a consort in order to be able to fully activate her powers, powers that will help keep her clan safe from magical attacks from other clans. In desperation, Zoe casts a spell to create her perfect consort. Unfortunately, the spell backfires in a big way, creating a monster that escapes into the surrounding Phoenix area. Enter handsome Evan McAllister, the fixer of the McAllister clan. Evan’s gift is to fix any spell that has gone haywire. Together Zoe and Evan desperately try to find and contain the creature before the rest of the world discovers the existence of the magical community all the while fighting against their mutual attraction. What surprised me most about this book is the evolution of the monster and what Christine did with it. I really appreciated not being able to guess what would happen with it. It was a lot of fun. Altogether this is a really fun read for fans of Christine Pope and of her Witches of Cleopatra Hill series. I would recommend those new to the series start with Dark Angel or another book. Some catching up would help in order to fully appreciate this book.
Worth Every Minute of Sleep Deprivation
As I have found with every one of Christine Pope's books that I've read, Strange Magic is a magical (duh) and engaging story, so much that I read late into the night not wanting to put it down. Perhaps a bad idea when I had to get up at 5:30 am for work, but worth every minute of sleep deprivation. Christine Pope weaves a story full of connections - family, clans, magic, and more. The transition from one character's POV to another was seamless and added to the richness of the story. It also helped us, the readers, to get a richer, more vibrant view as the story unfolds. Too often writers will make the mistake of using multiple POV's to tell a story, and instead of helping the story to fill up, they simply repeat what the first POV has already said. Sometimes the change in perspective does add more to the story, but too much repetition gets to be tedious. I've not found this type of problem in Strange Magic or any other Christine Pope books. There were several places in which I was reading and had the "oh, the expected event will go the expected way" only to find that events did not occur in a way I expected. I enjoyed this, as it can get boring to read books with the same plot line, story arc, with virtually the same characters who behave in the same way. Christine Popes characters always have a unique personality that makes him/her quite distinct. The characters are well thought out and have depth, and the conclusion was satisfying enough, but left enough questions unanswered to spark curiosity for the next mention of these characters. Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed Strange Magic and can't wait to read more of Christine Pope.
a mistake??
I have been reading the series in order and I read this one. Zoe is confined as a prima in waiting and makes a serious mistake. Help comes in the form of Evan McAllister, who she is arguing with constantly. I love the banter between Evan and Zoe. Adults 18+ only for sensual scenes. Must read!
New Creation
Christine Pope does it once again taking you into the fascinating world of the Witches of Cleopatra Hill touching the life of Zoe Sandoval, the prima in waiting of the de La Paz family. It was riveting wanting me to keep reading to see just how she would rectify the situation she created. It took twists and turns with the most amazing and surprising ending. It truly leaves you wanting MORE! This is a must read for the fans of the Witches of Cleopatra Hill. I received this book for free for my honest review.
Is there really no-one for her???
As always, this book from Christine Pope, terrific! What is wrong with her....why can't she....is kissing supposed to be disgusting??? Can he help? Why did it feel like she wanted to......Right, ultimatum time! You really need to grab a copy and look for yourselves . I loved this book!
Pretty good book!
There is way more action than I was expecting or am used to. I haven't read the earlier books in the series. If I had, I might have enjoyed this one more. That said, I love the characters and the way they interact with each other. Overall, certainly worth reading especially if you love crazy situations that could have far reaching consequences
Never ending excitement!
I love all the characters. The excitement never ends in the continuing witch saga The Witches of Cleopatra Hill. Ever the new chapter, the new personalities. I am addicted and can't get enough!
A must read!
I think out of all of them this is my favorite. It kept me hooked. Wanting to read more.
