A follow-up to the best-selling The Storm Whale, winner of the 2014 inaugural Oscar's First Book Prize in association with the Evening Standard.

It’s winter time and Noi’s island is covered in a blanket of snow. Even the sea is icing over. Noi is worried about the little whale he saved last summer: Can he survive the harsh conditions? Little does Noi know that it’s the little whale’s turn to save him. A magical and touching story about a lasting friendship. A truly beautiful work packing a real emotional punch.

‘At the heart of this emotionally charged story is the joy of a lasting friendship, tender and true’ Fiona Noble for The Bookseller, Children’s Book of the Month

Sequel to The Storm Whale

Did you like The Storm Whale? Then you will probably like this, which continues the story of Noi and his father and the whale. Have you not read The Storm Whale? Then start there. Did you find The Storm Whale too subtle, or depressing, or a misleading depiction of how a boy could conceivably transport a small whale? Then you probably won't like this much better (maybe a little better, actually). I fall in the first camp, so I give it 5 stars. 1.5 year old daughter LOVES the Bizzy Bear series, by Benji Davies as well, which is how we found these books. But she listens attentively and engages with The Storm Whale books, and they'll no doubt hold her interest longer into childhood.

Great addition to your kid’s bookshelf

Sequel to The Storm Whale. You don’t need to read the first one to enjoy this, but you should buy both anyway because they’re nice books. Looks great on the shelf and a good read as well.

Wonderful Sequel

If you toddler likes whales, they will love the adventures of little Noi. This is a great sequel - as good as the original! The art work is beautiful as it was in the first book and the story sweet. It's a wonderful portrayal of both the father/son relationship and friendship between boy and whale.

My 2 year old loved the original Storm Whale book and the sequel is just as magical. With the same beautiful illustrations and imaginative plot line. This time it's the storm whale who has to come to Noi's rescue.

Nice story about friends and weather

Grade 1B liked this story because it was such a beautiful story of friendship. The pictures are lovely and colorful.

A surprise.

A simple, delicate story made poignant by the beautiful illustrations. Perfect. The librarians had this on display at our children's library and it caught my eye as I was chasing down my young son. Sometimes you can judge a book by it's cover. This is a book that is savored. The sparse prose leave space for pause. It was evident that this was the follow up book to an earlier story, yet my very active, short attention span, almost 3 year old son asked me to read it to him several times after the first reading. He reacted strongly to Noi not finding his father on the boat, yet at the same time was able to enjoy finding the cats. In all likelihood, I will have to purchase this and The Storm Whale. Even the font/typeface is just right.

A Friendship That's Simple and Sweet

I loved this book! It’s a simple, sweet story about friendship. This is the 2nd book for the boy and his whale friend. In the first Noi rescues the little whale trapped on the beach by a summer storm. Now it’s winter, and his dad’s gone to sea. When he doesn’t return, Noi searches but gets lost too. He crosses the sea ice to find the boat trapped in ice, and his dad nowhere in sight. Noi escapes in deep-sea dreams but awakens to a bump. It’s the storm whale and his family pushing their friend to shore where his dad’s waiting. Winter passes. Spring returns, and Noi smiles every time he looks out to sea and remembers the night his friend rescued him.

“It’s dad’s book”

My 2.5 y girl loves this book so much. She asked us to read it every day for the past one month. She said this is her dad and hers book! the story and the drawing are both great. We also like the hiding retails of the book. We counted the cats every time we read it. It was tricky to find all the 6 cats in the beginning! We also find ways to explain my daughters where is Noi’s mom.

Very enjoyable. Kept my three year old intrigued.

This is a great book for all ages. Suspenseful without being scary. My son loves whales and we’ll likely return to this book many times.

Don’t think twice, every child will enjoy this stunning book

This is the most beautiful illustrations and story I have ever bought my daughter. I just love the pictures and story because it talks about all the normal negative emotions all children can feel like fear, loneliness and longing, but with a triumphant end. Unlike any other children’s book I have bought my toddler girl. I have a huge library for her and there isn’t a famous children’s author I haven’t bought so I feel very credible with my review. Don’t hesitate to buy it’s beautiful!

Brilliant book, look forward to more

This is a really lovely story. A touching tale of fear and loneliness with a triumphant end. Anyone who doesn't want to hug Noi, the little boy in the story, has a heart of stone. My four year old loved it and I enjoyed reading it to him. It treads a different path to most picture books around, the closest I can think of is Oliver Jeffers' Lost and Found. It's a stand alone sequel, ie no need to have read the first, although that is recommended too. I could see this being made into a touching short film.

Beautifully illustrated - a work of art on every page ...

Beautifully illustrated - a work of art on every page - and a simply told but engaging story of how Noi sets out to rescue his fisherman dad lost at sea and is himself rescued by the Storm Whale he himself rescued previously. My 6 year old son likes this book, but i love it.

A lovely story for all ages

I purchased this book because I liked the sound of it I have read it three times to my grandson 21/2 years old, maybe a little to young yet to fully understand but he loved it, and relayed the story quite well to his mum later in the evening at bedtime. He has asked me to read it again today and remembered the name Noi, just a short lovely read.

A wonderful sequel

We love Noi in this house and this is a brilliant sequel to The Storm Whale. Beautiful illustrations that really tug at your heart strings. The binding of this board book edition is super and has held up a lot better than many of the board books we own.

Lovely book

I bought this as my Grandson had it read to him at school. A lovely story, great illustrations and the author can be found reading it on YouTube.

Lovely story & beautifully illustrated

I would really recommend this book. A lovely story to continue from the first book. Beautiful illustrations. My daughter loves it.

Another beautiful book

Another lovely book telling the tale of a boy who seems lonely but has an unusual 'friend'. In the first book, Noi helps the Storm Whale; in this book the whale returns the favour. Beautifully illustrated and warmly written - my 5 year old and I love it already.

5* lovely tale & fabulous illustration.

This is the 2nd tale of the Storm Whale but frankly you don't need to have read the first to appreciate this. However it is beautiful to read to/with a child and so delightfully illustrated that you will want both!

It is a wonderful, evocative story

This has become a new classic in our house. It is a wonderful, evocative story. My three year old loves it too!

Wonderfully atmospheric, great illustrations

Beautiful atmospheric book. If you liked the storm whale, you'll love this one.

Love these books

Noi and the storm whale

I love these books, so much so, that I bought them twice. Lovely, simple, but meaningful stories. Very beautifully illustrated.

A brave boy

A really nice book, my 3 yr old boy loves it. Trying finding all the cats before bedtime. The images as so cold you can feel the cold

Lovely book

Bought this with the first book "The Storm Whale". It's just as lovely a book as the first one. Wonderful illustrations of the sea with the whales and also little Noi. I'm looking forward to seeing what else Benji Davies produces.

A lovely sequel

I like Benji Davis books. Tinged with loneliness and sadness. Might not think it makes a good children's book but we adore them in our house.
