Another great novel by a beloved author!

Beverly Lewis is undoubtedly my favorite female author, This book did not disappoint; it just wasn't long enough, It helped me to understand more of the differences between Beachy Amish and Old Order Amish. I loved the characters, the storyline, and the conclusion. I don't want to give details and spoil the book in any way. I did have one big disappointment: I'll be 78 years old when her next book is published. But, then, it's something to look forward to! Thank you, Beverly Lewis, for the many great books you have penned

Disappointing....

There were several areas of this book that disappointed me. The very first area is that the book did not deliver as billed. I thought I would be reading about an Beachy Amish girl being a tour guide in Lancaster County. There was very little in the book about that and what was about it was not written with any depth. It was as if it was just a lead in to what the author really wanted to write about which was the horse farm and Emmie and Gabe's story. I found this part of the story so boring that I started skimming quickly over the many, many chapters the author devoted to it. The story was another time story which is getting really old with so many authors writing these type of stories now. I can say that Lewis did a good job in this area because there were very few areas going back to the other time period and the segments were short. I did enjoy Eliza's story. The writing seemed a little stilted compared to Lewis' earlier books with the sentences short and seemingly more aimed at young readers. There was a nice twist at the end of the book which was enjoyable but overall the ending was very disappointing.

A Heartwarming Story

I have enjoyed all of Beverly Lewis' books but I believe this one just became my favorite! It is a story about a love lost and a love found many years later. The grandmother's struggle with dementia was told with compassion. Anna's search for answers and her choice despite all the obstacles was beautiful. A must read for Amish romance lovers!

Not up to par with Beverly's usual great books

I've read every book Beverly Lewis has written. I'm starting to see that her greatest talent is character depth and making me feel like I'm in the setting. Wonderful descriptions poetically drawing me into Lancaster County. I think The Stone Wall should have been a trilogy. I don't feel like I knew any of the characters and the plot was a bit forced. This book just wasn't up to par.

Very Good

Another great book by Beverly Lewis! ***SPOILER ALERTS*** However, there are one too many coincidences, and one too many parallels between grandmother and granddaughter to be realistic. Also, I really do not like love triangles in books because in real life someone always gets hurt, and I do not think dating more than one person at a time is an honorable quality. No one ended up heart broken in this one, but Anna still seemed awfully fickle. Also Mart's character seemed pointless as it was very obvious Anna was going to end up with Gabe the first time they met. With all that said, I still highly recommend this clean and well-written book, and Beverly Lewis will remain in my top pick for favorite authors!!

Amish Lifestyles and Love

I’ve read all of Beverly Lewis’s books and this is one of the better ones. The story held my interest, though it raises questions. On a minor note, I wonder if the Amish actually eat so very many sweets? The sugar consumption is off the charts. I also wonder why Gabe wears cologne. All I could find on the subject indicated that the Amish do not wear any type of fragrance. More important, does an Amish woman really need to ask her husband for permission to make a phone call? If so, Anna will have a big adjustment after leaving the relative freedoms of the Beachy Amish church.

Enjoyed this

I am once again delighted to have finished reading another book by Beverly Lewis, The Stone Wall. There is something so sweet about a well written Amish book. I enjoy the way Beverly has used words to paint a photo of Amish Life within her latest book.

Truly inspirational story

When Anna comes to stay with Sadie and Glen her life will change forever. In this book you will read about a child suffering the loss of her mother. You will learn how wonderful people like Gabe is there to help children with disabilities. Anna and Gabe’s story will have you on the edge of your seat waiting to see what happens next. Beverly Lewis is a amazing author each and everyone of her books are inspirational stories that you can’t stop reading.

The Stone wall

Never boring book, that kept you trying to guess what would happen, and a lot of times you would be wrong. Meaning it was not a typical same thing, same happenings, same story, with the same ending. So, I gave it a 5 star. It kept my interest and it did not drag out too long. A good book for those cold, rainy days. J 😀

stone wall

I didn't think she would find the stone wall her grandmother was talking about, but as each search came closer to the wall it seem that she had missed it, I enjoyed the story and enjoyed it more when she found the man her grandmother had written the last letter that he had never received.

Great book!!

I loved this book. It is a great story. It was a story of two generations and how similar their lives were. I couldn’t put it down. It was so good I read it in two days. Definitely read it.

Love Bridging Generations

This in an absolutely enchanting story bridging feelings of love, hope, and heartache across generations. It examines the relationships within families and the understanding between faith, responsibility, and the heart. Highly recommended.

Heartwarming

I have always loved reading Beverly Lewis books. This book is no exception. This is a story of a young woman's journey in finding her soulmate. She had obstacles throughout her journey but in the end found what she was looking for.

Uplifting

Beverly Lewis' books are always uplifting, having scriptures quoted, sometimes snippets of sermons and the main theme of always trusting the Lord. They aren't just gooey love stories. I find it difficult to wait for her next book!

Good story

A different story but good one. I learned much about the different kinds of Amish. I really didn't know that there was a Beachy type but was familiar with others since I have reading this author's books for many years. Thank you for another great story.

Another great Beverly Lewis book

I've read all of Beverly Lewis' books but I learned a lot from this book about different Amish communities. Seems there is more blurring of lines instead of hard and fast rules these days. I found all this interesting.

WONDERFUL

I've been a huge fan of Beverly Lewis for years. I love how she pulls you right into her stories. The Stonewall kept me captivated. If your a huge fan of Amish fiction like I am. You'll love this book.

Lovey Amish Love story

This was such s sweet love story with some great great characters you get to know. Learning there were different types of Amish keeping couples apart was Inter. Also a great twist st the end!

A disappointment

I have read in excess of 20 Beverly Lewis books. At page 97 I couldn't take it any more. The breakfast menu, the ham, lettuce and cheese in the sandwich and so many other details were just too much. Instead of moving the plot forward the minutiae of everyday living took the enjoyment out of the story. Don't bother with this one.

Enjoyable Read

Another great story by Ms. Lewis. Loved the story line, jumped from present to past without confusion. The characters were well crafted, caring people. Thank you, Ms. Lewis !

Review

Ever so nicely written. A pleasure to read. It’s so nice to read about people speaking freely of The Lord Jesus and His Gift to us all, The humanity of family, and the little things in life that we treasure.

Not up to standard

Not as inspirational as her past books. I didn’t fall in love with the characters like her other works. I have read all her books but regretted paying for this one. Wouldn’t recommend it like I have her other books.

The Stone Wall

Oh how I love Beverly Lewis. The Stone Wall is another in her long list of inspirational, beautifully written Amish novels.

My favorite author.

Finished in two days.

Excellent

This novel is a little different than Beverly’s others, in a great way. I enjoyed the interwoven stories of Anna and her grandmother and how God’s timing is always perfect.

Fantastic book

One of my favorites from Beverly Lewis, absolutely fantastic! The storyline was so great and the scripture woven throughout it was so nicely done! The ending though was so cool, loved it! That’s all will say for those who haven’t read it

The Stone Wall

I love all of your books. I think I have read everyone. I also love to read books about the Amish. We live in Indiana and we used to go to Shipshewana 2 or 3 times a summer. Loved being around the Amish.

Love reading these kinds of books!!

Love

I found this book to be a very enjoyable read, and it kept my attention from beginning to end. You will learn a lot about the Anabaptist faith and the different sects here as we follow a young woman, Anna, from her home a few hours away to the Lancaster area. There is a parallel to this story, Anna's beloved Grandmother also spent time with a Great Aunt when she was a teenage, and fell in love with an Old Order Amish man, now that doesn't sound bad does it? Her parents are like most, and the want their children raised in their faith, and their is a difference between this different Sects. Anna belongs to the Beachy Amish. Now our girl is recovering from a failed romance and is staying in the Lancaster area with her Old Order cousins, and living without electricity, but she is still using her car, and we watch her bloom. You will be wondering if she will end up with the fellow who has shown her the ropes at her new job, or the widow with the little girl. Both seems wonderful, and although they both worship differently from her, they would make great matches. Watch or read and see whom she ends up with. Enjoyed how the title of this book plays such a great part! I received this book through Net Galley and Bethany House Publishers. and was not required to give a positive review.

Beverly Lewis at her best!

Beverly Lewis is the author that first introduced me to Amish fiction years ago when I discovered her Abram's Daughters series from my library. She hooked me with that first book and I've since found many other wonderful authors who write in this genre. I'll always credit her to falling in love with my first Christian Fiction stories! So it was with great pleasure & anticipation that I read The Stone Wall! What I loved about it is that Anna is a young Amish woman who's trying to find her way in the world. When an opportunity comes up to visit distant family, she eagerly embarks spending time with her Old Order Amish relatives. The promise of a new direction for her life renews her spirit & refreshes her heart. I also love the mysterious memories her elderly grandma shares that involve a stone wall and a long ago forbidden love. Lastly, I enjoyed the developing love interests from two different men and couldn't wait to find out which one Anna would end up with. I normally don't care for love triangles because they can be frustrating for me to read, but Lewis wrote this in a way that was interesting without all the angst. Now, I'd really like to see a book featuring the one that didn't get his happily-ever-after! I'm a hopeless romantic like that. I loved getting to know Anna & her extended family, the community she quickly feels a part of, the friendships she'd made, watching how her strong faith guided her every step, and the depth of love she had for her grandma. Someone described this as classic Beverly Lewis and I would have to agree! “Tis a waste of time to look back with regret,” Mammi Eliza Slaubaugh once told me. “Though we might fret and stew, the past simply can’t be changed,” she’d added, leaning closer, as if to share a secret. “Besides, if we could change our past, Anna, would we want to?” *I received a complimentary digital copy from Netgalley and was not obligated to leave a favorable review. This is an amazing story about the plain people!

I love the fact that this book includes characters from three distinctive religious groups that are part of the plain people community. They included the Old Order Amish, the Beachy Amish, and the Mennonites. I was fascinated by how the different ones interacted with each other. I had never before realized that there more than one different Amish groups. I love it when I learn something like this from a novel. The characters are incredibly well developed. Anna Beachy is the central character. She has moved to Strasburg to stay with distant cousins while she seeks God’s guidance for her life. Periodically throughout the book we have short looks at her grandmother, Mammi Eliza, who stayed in Strasburg to help her great aunt, 70 years before. I absolutely love Anna. She is so sweet to everyone she meets. One of the sweetest characters though is little Emmie. Anna meets her when she starts volunteering at a horse riding therapy facility. I truly enjoyed reading how the therapy sessions were handled. It was fascinating. There were a number of very emotionally intense moments in this book. One of the recurring themes was dealing with elderly relatives whose memories are failing. My heart broke for all of the characters who were dealing with this. The key throughout the book was having a relationship with God. Along with that is the question of how do you know His will for your life. Classic Beverly Lewis

Classic Beverly Lewis. She has a way of making a story seem like a sharing of confidences between friends. I'm always spellbound by her understated word choice and the way the story gently unfolds. The Stone Wall is especially intriguing because of the diverse Anabaptist representation. Anna is Beachy Amish, her cousin is Old Order as is one of the young men she's interested in while the other is Mennonite. (And yes, that means there's a love triangle element to this story but we'll get to that in a second!) A fascinating part of this novel is the way it highlights the differences between each sect. Especially how they view one another -- there's acceptance but definitely a desire to keep apart. After all they divided for a reason, ain't so? :-) I'm so used to reading Amish/Englisch 'forbidden love' romances that it was refreshing to see the culture clash coming from within rather than without. So, yeah, back to that love triangle. Not my favourite trope, but Lewis handles it with with only a modicum of angst so I finished this read with my nails intact and a stable heart rate. I really like both suitors though, so now I want to a book for the one that got left behind! I think that's only fair. A surprise dual timeline is an added bonus featuring Anna's mammi in her rumspringa days. There are some uncanny parallels between the then and now though each young woman has to find her own way in the end. A heartwarming inspirational romance. Fun and Engaging

I always enjoy reading books by Beverly Lewis. They are a wonderful escape from every day life into the tranquil life of the Amish, and include engaging story with meaningful characters. The Stone Wall was no exception. Anna has recently gone through heartbreak, and decides that she needs a change in her life. She moves in with her cousin and her husband, and gets a new job as a tour guide. As she is adjusting to her new life, she meets a handsome Mennonite man named Mart, and begins to think that maybe she can find love again. Anna also begins to volunteer at a horse retreat, where children with special needs benefit from riding and caring for horses. A sweet little girl who has been mute since the death of her mother captures her heart, and she begins to build a friendship with the girl’s Old Order Amish father as well. During all of this, Anna embarks on solving a mystery from her dear grandmother’s past, that ends up coming full circle. Will Anna follow tradition and her parents, and decide to spend her life with Mart? Or will she end up with Gabe, the Old Amish widower with the troubled daughter? And how does a stone wall factor in to all of this? I read this book in two days because I couldn’t wait to find out! I received a copy of this book from the publisher, through Net Galley, in return for an honest review. All opinions are my own.

If Stone Walls Talked

What a wonderfully touching story about a young woman and her grandmother! Although the grandmother has Alzheimer’s and only appears in the story a few times, Anna’s life is significantly impacted by her Mammi Eliza. And there is the darling little girl, Emmie. Such a precious child, but also a hurting child since the death of her mother two years prior. I think this is my first real introduction to Beachy Amish. I came across the name quite some time ago, but all the previous books I have read about Amish focused on Old Order Amish, while sometimes including Mennonites and Englishers. For the first time, I discovered some of the significant differences between the Old Order Amish and the Beachy Amish. I was reminded of my earlier life when young people of various Protestant denominations were often cautioned about dating anyone from a different denomination. I would not have thought that about the different groups of Amish, but yet Anna was a Beachy Amish and was strongly cautioned by her parents against becoming friends with an Old Order Amishman. However, at the same time, she was living with her Old Order Amish cousins. Seeking a specific stone wall that her Mammi Eliza mentioned was often on her mind. I wonder what stories the various stone walls in Lancaster County could have told if stones could talk.

Heartwarming story

I hadn't read a Beverly Lewis book in quite a while. So was happy to be able to read one again. This is a sweet and different sort of story. We have some "going back" in time events to make for a bit of an interesting storyline. It has several different things going on, the new tour guide job for Anna taking her away from home and family and her Beachy Amish community. Anna working in horse therapy for special needs children and the topic of Alzheimer's. So there is a lot of topics to read about and learn about as well. So lots of changes and new adventures for Anna. It was an interesting book but probably not my favorite from this author. I did enjoy it and the more I read, the more I got into the book. The beginning was probably not as quickly engaging as the author's other books. It was enjoyable, and heartwarming. I liked the mystery parts best and the similarities between past and present people in two generations of a family. Which is a nice theme as one learns and grows from the past. And you will read about the many differences in the different Amish groups. And of course the secrets held by the stone wall. Another good Amish read! I received a complimentary copy from NetGalley. All thoughts are my own.

nice

First, I received an ARC e-book to read and review through Netgalley and Bethany House Publishing in exchange for my honest review. Thank you. I have read several books by Beverly Lewis and have enjoyed them all. This book is no exception but, that said, it is not my favorite. The story was pretty easy to follow. It mostly kept my interest but I did find some of it less compelling than the rest. I did have one problem, for me, about the book. It was that the main character was encouraged to lean on her feelings when making a major decision. Since this is a Christian book, I had a hard time with that when the Bible clearly states that the heart is deceitful and desperately wicked. We are also told in the Bible to lean not unto our own understanding but to trust in the Lord. That aside, it was a good, clean book. The editing needs to be refined. There were a few, not many errors mostly with punctuation or the order of the words in a sentence. There were about 2 places that I had to re-read the sentence a couple of times to understand What was being said. Overall, I give this a 3 out of 5 rating. I would recommend this to a friend.

A heartwarming tale!

The Stone Wall by Beverly Lewis is a charming Amish story. The author blended the past and present beautifully with Anna and Eliza’s stories. I thought this was a unique Amish novel as it features Beachy Amish, Mennonites, and Old Order Amish. It allowed me to see the differences and the similarities between them. I thought The Stone Wall was well-written with developed characters. It moves along at a gentle pace which suits this story. Anna Beachy needs a change and has been praying on it. The opportunity arrives when she receives a letter from her mother’s cousins in Strasburg about an opening at the Mennonite Information Center as a tour guide. Anna is close to her grandmother, Mammi Eliza. Unfortunately, Mammi Eliza has Alzheimer’s and she has few lucid moments. When Anna tells her about going to Strasburg, Mammi Eliza has a moment of clarity. Her words about a stone wall linger with Anna and it has her searching for it in Strasburg. It is interesting to see the parallels of their time in Strasburg. There is more than one type of wall in The Stone Wall. Anna also has a wall around her heart because she is afraid of getting hurt again. There are two men who catch her attention. Since both men reside in Strasburg, Anna is torn because her parents did not want her to marry and live so far from home. Another issue is that neither of them are Beachy Amish. Anna becomes a volunteer at Peaceful Meadows Horse Retreat which practices hippotherapy. It was interesting learning about it and how it helps individuals. If you enjoy reading Amish novels, then you do not want to miss out on The Stone Wall. My favorite phrase from the book is, “The Lord had something better in mind for me than rehashing the past.” Mammi Eliza had once told Anna that it was a “waste of time to look back with regrets” because “the past simply can’t be changed.” I never thought of it that way. The Stone Wall is a thoughtful, heartwarming Amish story. *I voluntarily read an advanced copy of this book. I am not required to leave a review. The comments and opinions expressed are strictly my own.

A Must Read by Beverly Lewis

Beverly Lewish has written a wonderful generational story entitled The Stone Wall. Through this story, you will visit the past which becomes important to the present. Anna is a young Beachy Amish woman who lives in Mifflinburg, PA (near the Amish Big Valley) and takes a job in Lancaster County. She is well received by everyone and makes a handful of Mennonite, Old Order Amish, and Beachy Amish friends. She also meets two gentlemen who become important in her life. Her new job as a tour guide and a volunteer at a horse farm add contentment and meaning to her being. Anna's ailing grandmother back at home, has planted a seed of mystery in Anna's mind. The mystery slowly begins to present clues through Anna's work and travels until it almost solves itself in front of her eyes. The Stone Wall is beautifully written and researched. The setting descriptions were spot on! I actually felt I was driving around Lancaster County visiting my favorite places! The dual time story was woven perfectly throughout. A must read book!

Stone Cold Secret and Walled Dreams

In life, walls both metaphorically and physically pop up creating insurmountable distances between our desires and dreams. We find ourselves struggling between what's expected clashing with our hopes for the future. Beverly Lewis challenges readers to overcome obstacles as "regrets can't change the past and worry can't alter the future." In search of a new beginning, Anna Beachy leaves behind her family to become a tour guide in Lancaster County. Staying with Old World relatives, her beachy beliefs are cast aside as she embraces the Old-World customs. While sorting out her feelings, Anna uncovers a stone cold secret that could topple her family's way of life. Will Anna embrace the future or let her fears keep her from crossing the divide? Thank you to #NetGalley and the publisher for an early edition in exchange for an honest review. Beverly Lewis is one of my favorite authors and the #StoneWall was a wonderful read. Anna's story resonates as she must decide between being true to herself or adhere to society's expectations.

A beautiful love story!

This has been my favorite Beverly Lewis book to date! A beautiful story of love, loss, and healing. The story immediately draws you in as you walk with Anna Beachy as she try’s to find her place in her community. She struggles to tell her parents that she feels the strong desire to move away and spread her wings in another Amish community. This desire leads her on an adventure she never expected and binds her closer to her grandmother who is suffering from dementia. The past and present have a way of intertwining themselves even when we do not realize it. Gabe is an Amish widow with a young daughter who hasn’t spoken since her mother passed. He & Anna cross paths when Anna stumbled upon his horse training camp for special needs children. Anna finds herself drawn to young Emma and wanting to help her. This book is a must read! I hated to see it end when the last page was turned.

One of her best!

The Stone Wall is one of Beverly Lewis's best yet. Lewis was my first Amish genre writer to read and I've never been disappointed. Anna is a character filled with love for all those around her. Especially for her Alzheimers stricken grandmother. I can only dream of having the patience and understanding that Anna portrays not only with her grandmother but with little mute Emmie. Speaking of Emmie she will steal your heart. I found the story calming during my current life of anxiety and stress-filled days. I see it becoming one of the rare books I will reread many times. I received a complimentary copy from the publisher, Bethany House, through Netgalley. All opinions expressed in the above review are entirely my own.

I loved "The Stone Wall" Beverly Lewis always exceeds my expectations!!!!

Beverly Lewis is in a class all by herself. Her latest book, "The Stone Wall" is further proof that no one else comes close, especially in the area of character development original plots. Anna is moving to Lancaster County (a place where her own grandmother spent part of her youth) to become a tour guide. She knows very little about the area, but Martin Nolt (a Mennonite) agrees to train her for her new job. Anna soon meets Gabe Allgyer (an Amish widower who works with special needs children). Each of these men is attractive in his own way, but the question is, which one will Anna choose? The complexities between the various groups that make up these communities are explained so clearly that the reader finds growing sympathy with Anna and agonizes with her over the decision that she must make. Disclaimer: I received a complimentary e-copy of this book through NetGalley and was not required to write a favorable review. All opinions are my own.

A wonderful story

Beverly Lewis writes wonderful Amish stories, and this is another book for her many fans to add to their “must read” list. Anna’s story was an interesting one, and I loved how the different storylines in this book intertwined to come together for a beautiful conclusion. It’s an inspirational, heart-warming story that will make you want to read the book again. The faith element to this book was encouraging and helpful. I received a copy of this book from the publisher. All opinions are my own.

Enjoyable.

I liked the book Stone Wall by Beverly Lewis. Anna is anxiously awaiting her move to Lancaster County to begin her new life as a tour guide. We learn som interesting facts about the Beachy Amish who are more Mennonite than Amish. We also see how horseback riding can act as therapy for special needs children. Forming a friendship with Martin, a Mennonite, and Gabe an Amish widower leads to a difficult choice with a surprise ending. An enjoyable addition to Beverly’s books.

A must read and going through emotional pains of letting go of past pains and welcoming love!

An amazing story. The past and present come together in this story about finding love and lost love. Don't want to give away any details. Book moves through so many emotions of pain cause to the heart and being able to move ahead and with getting old and what comes with it not only for the person who has medical issues but also how it effects the family. And through turmoil finding peace one seeks with Gods love in view.

blah

THE STONE WALL is Ms. Lewis's most recent story and to me it fell flat. It is more women's fiction than romance, but there is a very weak romance or two. The story is flat, told, not shown, and worked well as a sleep aide. However, if you are a serious Lewis fan, you might love this book. I did like the mystery of her grandma. I was given a copy free. All opinions are my own.

Loved the Story

This story contains a cycle of generations that was both wonderful and surprising. Anna and her grandmother share a pattern for their lives. Both face a similar choice of finding love outside of their denomination. The stone wall contains a secret that brings the story full circle. Please read this book if you love Amish stories, family stories or gentle romances. You'll walk away satisfied.

Great writing!

I have read all the Amish books by Beverly Lewis. She has a special knack for placing you at the scene! Never bores with overly descriptive narrative but just exactly the right detail to relate the moment to a "T"! Always a twist or two near the end --never read it first! And always a subtle message to be thankful, helpful, hard working, aware of nature's gifts, compassionate, etc.!

Amazing Story

Beverly Lewis is a wonderful author. She makes the stories she tells come to life. So they feel real and it make me want more and for the story to never end. I have read several of her books. This may be the best one so far. It will not be the last.

A Cute Amish Story!

This was such a cute read! I enjoyed this story and found the writing to not be so slow paced which is always a plus in my book! This also gave me a new viewpoint of Amish life and the different periods of that which was interesting to see. All in all the story was cute and Lewis really did good job on the setting and characters for this book. I will be keeping a lookout for any of her other works! *I received this book from Bethany House and NetGalley for free but all opinions are my own.

Heartwarming

This book lived upnto my expectations. Beverly is one of my favorite authors and has written another wonderful book about the Amish.I actually get menu ideas from reading the meal descriptions.I spent a lazy Sunday afternoon enjoying this book.

Not up to Lewis standards

I am a huge fan of Beverly Lewis and enjoy all of her books. While I also enjoyed this book, it was not up to the standard of writing I am used to. The story moved extremely slow and I felt this story was being dragged out over the pages. I enjoyed the characters; however, it just seemed a very slow moving story.

The perfect Beverly Lewis book!

This is one of my top favorite Beverly Lewis books. It had everything. Well-written, kept me guessing, got better and better as it went along, and a great ending. Lots of information on both Lancaster and the different Amish sects. One of her best.
