“But Sol, it ain’t haunted like you thought,” Marty argued cautiously. It wasn’t a good idea to get Sol too angry. “We’ve tried everything, séances, Ouija boards, mediums—everything. This place is just an old, empty house. A creepy, old house.”
Sol shook his head, disregarding Marty’s words, and started up the tall staircase to the second floor. “It just has to seem like a haunted house,” he said. “We’ll keep the crowds coming if it seems like a haunted house. People pay good money to spend the night in a haunted mansion.”
Marty followed him, shaking his head. “After that last paranormal research group came through and found nothing, we ain’t been getting the crowds like we used to,” he pointed out. “People look on the internet for everything. All they have to do is research the house and they’ll see we’ve been investigated by three different groups. They ain’t gonna pay top dollar to stay in the state’s most haunted house if it ain’t got no ghosts.”
Sol stopped at the top of the stairs and waited for Marty. “Then all we need is a ghost,” he said.
Marty shook his head and put his hand on his partner’s shoulder. “Sol, we’ve been at this for three years,” he replied. “The balloon payment is coming up in three months. We ain’t got the capital. We gotta let go of this place before we lose everything.”
Shoving Marty’s arm off his shoulder, Sol paced angrily down the hallway. “Don’t you get it, Marty?” he growled, his teeth clenched. “I’m going to lose everything if this place doesn’t pan out. I sunk everything I owned into this place. I don’t have any reserves. I don’t have anything to turn to. This place has to work out.”
Marty leaned one hand on the balustrade at the top of the staircase and sadly shook his head. “I’m sorry, Sol. I’d do anything to help you,” he said sadly. “But this place just ain’t got a ghost.”
Sol sighed deeply and turned back to his friend, nodding his head slowly. “Thank you, Marty,” he replied.
A icy tremor of fear swept through Marty’s body as he saw the cold, calculating look in Sol’s eyes. He lifted his hands defensively. “No, Sol, no,” he cried even as he felt the power of Sol’s body knock him backwards and down the stairs.
A few moments later, Sol stood at the top of the staircase, looking down at the broken, lifeless body of his business partner sprawled unnaturally on the black and white, ceramic tiled, lobby floor. He leaned against the same balustrade that only moments before had been held by Marty and nodded. “And now we have a ghost.”

Mary, Ian and Mike investigate a supposedly haunted house and discover there are more than just ghosts hidden behind its doors.

Pretty good series overall.

Rather than rate each book individually I will comment on the series here. I have read books 1-14 and I think this is a good place to stop. This book wound things up nicely for me and the hook at the end didn't leave me wanting more. Overall, I am pleased with the stories. I didn't have any of the negative reactions with the books that others experienced. I felt the storyline moved along at a normal pace with typical human drama. That being said, I became tired of certain over used descriptive phrases, possibly because I read the books one after the other. For example, there is just way too much biting. Biting back smiles, biting lips, biting inside cheeks to keep from laughing etc. Someone is always biting themselves which would only make sense if they were vampires. The next would be Bradley constantly running his hand through his hair. I am surprised he has any hair left. He couldn't seem to do anything without running his hand through his hair before, during and after. I don't know which hand it was, but he probably has one popeye arm. And I think I may have developed diabetes from reading about all the cookies eaten. Are there really people out there that bake cookies everyday and eat them that don't own a bakery? So with #14 I am finished. I would wish them all good luck with the demons, but of course they will prevail. And I am sure the miracle baby will become the next Dean Winchester (Supernatural TV series) and we'll all be safer as long as he doesn't succumb to childhood obesity from eating cookies and wind up playing a furry blue creature in a PBS show.

New Turn In Mary O'Reilly's world

Mary and Bradley are expecting a little boy and Mary is still helping ghosts find the light. In this latest volume in the Mary O'Reilly series, demons try to thwart her work. Prayer is introduced as both protection and weapon. I always liked the series because it hinted at Christian themes that have now approached coming out of the closet. There was an obvious way I'd like to see, keeping the Roman Catholic flavor while expanding the audience to Evangelicals: Ian is from Scotland, bastion of Knox and Calvinism. While Mary holds to the "being a good person makes you right with God" of Catholicism, Ian could easily introduce faith as the key to being right with God, widening the audience for the book. I loved the scene where Mike, an angel (admittedly a problem because doctrinally dead humans are saints, not angels - but also explained in another volume as a special situation due to Mike's urgent desire to aid and protect Mary and those she loves), is shown in his angelic state. Because of these turns in the story, which I have been quietly rooting for, I think this is the best book in the series thus far. I can't wait for the next one!

The Mary O'Reilly books are a series you can never have enough of!

There were many subplots in this book, and all blended into the main story very well. Terri Reid pulls you into the story and I always feel that I have become part of the story too. Mary and Bradley are expecting their first child together, and Clarissa has some very interesting Halloween costume ideas for Mary. This series offers a lot in the way that relationships work. Mary, Bradley, and Clarissa are finally coming to a place where Clarissa's past is not impacting the joy they feel as a family, as much as before. The dialog often makes me laugh out loud! Of course, Scottish Ian, and Guardian Angel Mike add a lot of humor, and head-turning good looks - well, at least Ian does. Not many can actually see Mike, as he is a ghost promoted to Guardian Angel. I start missing them all when I know I am in the last chapter and the next book is not out yet! Thanks, Terri, for adding so many enjoyable hours to my life!!!

Stolen Dreams, a Real Nightmare!

This is the last time I will ever buy or read Terri Reid's writing! I am so tired of her books that are just a lead into the next one and none of these are stand-alone books any more. The proofing is iffy and this book is the worst written of any of hers so far. Or at least, the ones I have read. I have eight of them. She started out with a decent book that was a stand-alone. Now, anyone who hasn't read the previous books are going to be totally lost. In this book, she started out really off-paced, picked it up and got to flowing again, then all of a sudden just lost her flow and started forcing her plot again. Her writing is more and more stilted and forced. It just loses its focus and drifts around until she finally catches her pace again. This was by far the worst, and my last!

Convents and haunted houses!

In this latest story, Mary O'Reilly has two mysteries to solve. The first involves a recurring nightmare she has, hearing a baby cry behind a locked door and not being able to reach her....yes, her, which means since she is pregnant with a boy, she is channeling someone else. She needs to find this person so she can resolve the dream. Her second mystery is more sinister. She is contacted by someone that wants her to validate his haunted house, because his business is z haunted bed and breakfast inN and they want his ghost to be publicly proven. But something seems off about this person and his request and this case could ultimately lead to Mary's demise. I really enjoy this series with all its interesting characters and ghosts. I love the interactions between Mary and her friends and family, including her guardian angel, Mike. I look forward to the next book in this series.

Addicting

I am honored to have had Terri as a personal friend for many years. As a child of the 70's I was weaned on cop shows (Beretta, Rockford Files etc) so I am drawn to her main character, Mary. I love the quirkiness of Stanley and the way Rose keeps him in line with lots of love and good cooking. Ian is adorable and Bradley I have conjured up as a young James Garner looking man in my head. I love the cliffhangers at the end of the books that leave you hungry for more and the sweet little surprises along the way that you don't see coming. Thank you Terri for the fun escapes from reality and the joy that your characters bring to our lives. Love - Michelle

Terri Reid is an excellent author and is very creative in her inventions of story line in each book. The Mary O'Reilly series is 20 books and they all are a pleasure to read. The setting is in north western Illinois.instead of one of the major cities. As the books progress they become more and more like a movie equivalent of a 'chick flick' because of the character details she includes. I may be a hard core mystery fan but I too enjoyed all of the books. I look forward to reading more of her work.

Many Truths to Learn!

So,14 books, and many lessons, we as readers need to remember to bring out to the public. Maybe a greater use of Facebook and Twitter... Terri Reid has exposed us to many messages....what true unconditional love really is, AND how to make it happen in each of our lives. Then, trafficking of children, "re-homing" of children through illegal contracts, the power of positive thinking, and most important, the POWER of FAITH through PRAYER. What writer has given all of these powerful messages to us through wonderful stories with believable characters?....Terri Reid, thank you so very much! God bless you...and I await book 15!

Another Awesome book Terri!

Another awesome book by Terri Reid. She is one of the best authors out there. Her books are so incredible. There is a little paranormal, a lot of humor and great friendships. Her characters are so easy to love. One of the things I also like very much is that Terri has kept the prices of her books down so that everyone can afford her books. I see her offer a free book all the time. Make sure you like her Facebook page and you get her emails. Terri keeps everyone up to date on what is going on with her books. I highly recommend all of her books.

waiting for number fifteen!

Terri Reid has done it again with her 14th book in her Mary O'Reilly Paranormal Mystery series! Terri has a quiet softness in her writing as she handles hard and sometimes dark issues. In her quiet way she shows the strengths her characters possess as they work toward finding resolution for Mary's "lost" clients. Mary has faced danger and evil before but in Stolen Dreams the evil takes on a new meaning as she faces off against her newest opposition who is determined to stop her in her work. Loved it Terri!!!!

my opinion about this book

this book wasn't as interesting or exciting as the usual Terri Reid books, in my opinion. I was so looking forward to that next story - but was bummed after reading it. I hope her next book is up to Terri's standards. Don't get me wrong - it had all the ingredients of her books - suspense, action, etc., but just not as strong. Please don't take my word for it - read her books - they're great, but I was asked my opinion and this is it - Stolen Dreams just didn't measure up to the usual product from this fine lady.

A Ghostly Adventure

Two not so savory businessmen have purchased an old mansion in Pearl City, Illinois. They are trying to promote it as a haunted mansion, but so far all of the paranormal investigators have found no evidence of ghosts, and Sol is getting upset. He is so angry in fact that he decides to make his own ghost, and he murders his partner. Now he has shown up at Mary O'Reilly' s detective agency demanding that she prove the place is haunted. Another great and fast moving story.

Love the Mary O'Reilly Paranormal Mystery Series - Read Them All

I love this Mary O'Reilly Paranormal Mystery series and have purchased every one of them (on Kindle). This one in particular has a sort of "to be continued" feel at the end. Some of them you can read as a stand-alone, but once you start reading the series...you are hooked. The characters seem so real. Mystery, romance, paranormal, and a few twisted plots. They are also a fast read - but many a night they have kept me up late! Just can't put it down once I start reading.

Not your every day murder mystery.

Love her books. Each character is an individual, no trouble knowing who is "talking". Well written and great plot twists.

Definitely a good read

I've read every one of the 14 books so far and this one is terrific. Terri Reid is one author I search for regularly in the hope that a new book has been released. This series of books have all been "can't put it down until it is done" and are serious enough but lighthearted enough to not bog down the senses. Can't tell you how many times I've dragged myself into work the next day after reading half the night. Can't wait for the next offering.

Worth waiting for

I love these stories. This one has a twist that made me break out in chills however. Ms. Reid came up with another original plot that kept my interest all the way through. Although I bought my book the day it was released, I waited until I knew I could sit and read uninterrupted. Now, the wait begins again for book 15! I am so very happy to have found Mary O'Reilly and the wonderful characters Terri Reid has fleshed out for my reading enjoyment.

REFRESHING!

I have read every book in this series and have enjoyed them all! I couldn't believe that I finally found an author who could keep me captivated with a story. I have referred two other coworkers about the series and they love it! The only trouble I have is not giving away the secrets or endings as I am several books ahead of their reading. Great book for me to look forward to reading at the end of the night after teaching all day. Took my time reading number 14 knowing I'd have to wait for15, that was hard to do.

Beach books

I would offer the same critique for all of these books. These are good beach books although they are mostly the same book, just the plots lines are sort of switched up. They are generally cheerful and I like the characters who are somewhere between 1D and developed. The only one I don't like is the chief's daughter -- I hope we are done with her being a brat. Good library check-outs or Kindle daily deals.

Love you Mary O'Reilly & love you Terri Reid!

You can count on laughing out loud & moving to the edge of your chair. Another great chapter for Mary!

Anxiously waiting for #15.....

I love this whole series. The plots are clever, the characters are lovable, the writing is witty... I started the series with an offer from BookBub and just kept buying the next and the next.... I even got my husband "hooked" on them. Is there a Book 15 yet? Well, Terri Reid, quit reading your reviews and get to writing!!!

Yea - another Mary O'Reilly!

Always eager to read a new Mary O'Reilly story. I loved that this one was back to the lighter tone with lots of humor. I dropped 1 star due to the overt and, in my opinion, unnecessary mentioning of God. It felt a bit forced and distracted from the main story. Overall, a thoroughly enjoyable book and am looking forward to the next one.

Another Buick fun mystery!

I have now read 13 books of this series and each one keeps pulling me in deeper and deeper into the lives of these characters. Again, the characters are great, interesting and fun. The mystery plot is well developed. The alive characters and the ghost characters are wonderful. Enjoyable, fun and interesting series.

Entertaining and Hilarious!!

I so enjoy reading these Mysteries, the story lines are fabulous and the characters are lovable and hilarious. If you love a great mystery and enjoy laughing until you can't catch your breath these books are for you. I will wait with baited breath for the next book!

The Mary O'Reilly Series

I've read every book in this series and this new book is just as good or better than the others! I was glad to see Ian back to help Mary and wear his black shirt for all the ladies. I also really like the help that Mike give to Mary when she asks for help. It's very touching! Looking forward to the next book in the series!

Another good read !

The same "can't put this book down till it's done" content! Did not disappoint, once again! I don't think I ever stopped reading anyone of Terri Reid's books until I was done....EVER !! The only negative side to this is having to wait for the next book to come out! Love the Mary O'Reilly Paranormal series! Thank you Terri !!

Total page turner

This latest book drives home the sinister side of the paranormal as Mary, Ian and Mike investigate a haunted house. As it turns out, not everyone is grateful for the work that Mary does. Like the others, this is a real page turner, and keeps you guessing about what will happen next.

Awesome!

I've been reading Terri Reid's books for awhile now & I love her combination of ghosts, romance, scary things, humor & faith. Her books have everything that you need for a wonderful read! The latest Mary O'Reilly Paranormal Mystery was wonderful! But now I've got to wait for her next book to come out!

Still a good read😀

Great book as always . just so surprised that i think i might have skipped reading the other books. I have them scattered here in kindle, ibooks, nook so its hard to know for sure where i finish last. Excited to read the next one.

The Ghostsaving Team rides again!

I am always excited to see a new Mary O'Reilly story and this one did not disappoint. I really like the stories about these impossibly sweet and funny people. They are light, quick reads and very entertaining. This one ends on a cliffhanger so again, I am anxious for the next installment.

Terri Reid continues to find new ghostly adventures

Book 14 in the E-Book series finds Mary heavily pregnant and deeply involved in two different mysteries, one involving lost children and the other focusing on an attack by the other side. A little less satisfying than previous entries in the series, but still highly recommendable.

Not her best

This was not her best book. I have read them all and this one does not compare to the others. It was predictable from the beginning. I also don't like that there are demons after her now. Demons creep me out, so I probably won't be reading the next book.

Loved It!

So far I have read all 14 books of this series by Terri Reed and have loved all of them. Her characters gel so well that after you finish the first book you look forward to the next book. I plan to read her other books re: paranormal activities.

Love Mary O'Reilly Books

I love all these stories and I will be sad when they all come to an end. I'm glad that things ended happily for Rosie and her mother and I'm pleased that Ian popped back again. It would be good if he moved to Freeport too. I suppose the next wedding will be his.

Another great episode!

Now Mary is being threatened by the Underworld, due to her helping lost souls go into the light. Now it becomes a fight between good and evil. Can not wait to continue the series, and find out how the battle will take place. Recommended!!

Stolen dreams....A Mary O'Reilly Paranormal mystery 14

Hoping for number 15 to come out in the series.....don't want to see the adventures of Mary O'Reilly Alden to end. Here's hoping Terri Reid is busy writing the next in the series.....Love, love, love all of the books in this series. Terri McNamara

Weak story for TR

Fair for TR, but a bit confusing with trouble bringing in the climax. Too many attempted stories that are independent. Weak carry over reference to next book. Main story line is very predictable conclusion. Time for author to step back and freshen up a bit. Author seems to be stuck in "crank'em out mode" for last two books. Earlier books much better!

Always a winner!

TERI, Never stop this series. Lovable character's include Mary, Bradley, Rosie, Sol, nice to see Ian back too. I also love all the different ghosts that you always bring to your stories. Keep them coming Terri. CLAUDIA

A darker twist!

A rousing good story and fills in some back story (no, I won't tell you whose) but definitely takes a darker turn than usual. It's completely in keeping with the way the series is going. Not to be missed and can't wait for the next book!!

Five star book all the way

I love the Mary O'Reilly books and this was no exception. Held me captivated the entire read. Again it took me no time to read it cause I couldn't put it down. Can't wait for the next book. Thanks Terri for another wonderful reading experience.

Couldn't put the book down and yet really hated to see the book end

Outstanding series. Couldn't put the book down and yet really hated to see the book end. Terri Reid is a wonderful story teller that quickly gets you invested in the lives of her characters. I'm truly hoping Ms. Reid will continue writing stories in this series.

another brilliant book

I found Terri Reid quite by accident. Somehow, I've gotten completely addicted. This book was full of new twists. I'm definitely interested in seeing where the new mystery is leading. Mary has a lot more than ghosts to deal with now.

Rosie

This one made me tear up a little. Mary and her baby to be, help a ghost find her adopted baby. Nuns and a demon, Marty. Newspaper does a story about Mary's gift and crackpots come out to play. Can't wait for number 15.

Good read

Good read

Another great read!!

I would recommend this book to anyone that likes a good nature family story. The camaraderie between the people in this book is heartwarming. And yes it is a good story about ghosts. Terri Reid has done it again!!

Nice to see that Terri Reid can still keep the ...

Nice to see that Terri Reid can still keep the series interesting. So many times long running series tend to repeat conversations over and over but this Mary O'Reilly series is still fresh to read. Thanks for that

Simply loves Mary O'Reilly Series.

Like any other Mary a O'Reilly only difference with her pregnant. I can't wait and see what life has in store for Mary, any of the kids, stanley, Rosie, etc. .. I am bouncing off the walls for book 15, 16 17 18 and 20. I simply love this series.

Delightful series

This ghost whisperer will keep you guessing. I've enjoyed all the books in this series. This one especially kept me in suspense until the last chapter. Always a satisfying conclusion. Well done.

Fantastic

I have read all her books in this series and I LOVED them all. Please keep the story going. I would even like to see a tv mini series, it would be awesome to watch. PLEASE keep the series going.

I love the humorous connection to the other realm and the ...

I am a fan of Terri Reid and Mary O'Reilly books. I love the humorous connection to the other realm and the assistance given by her ghostly friends. Wish we all could have such connections in our lives. Obviously some of us do!! :)

Great series!

All of the books are written very well. The story lines are believable and the sub plots are perfect. Normal day to day stuff that happens to all of us. I liked the way each book flowed into the next, but could also stand alone on their own

A very good installment in an awesome series.

I really like this series and to me they just get better and better. I love the explanations of angels and choices. I love the way that friends and families stay together and help each other.

Love Mary and the ongoing story of her supernatural gift

Can't wait for the next book in this series! Love Mary and the ongoing story of her supernatural gift. Fun, suspenseful, romantic, and always leaves you feeling good about life. Read them all, you won't be disappointed.

Love this series

Really love this series love all the characters & really love that they are in most of the books. Like the ghost/heavenly aspect. Actually really love these books & can't wait for #15

Love Mary but hate demons

I have really enjoyed the Mary O'Reilly series except for the inclusion of spying, which thankfully got dropped, and now the demon. Characters and ghost mysteries are really great!

Mary O'Reilly

I have read all of these and look forward to the next one. The book makes me think and laugh. I find when I start one of these books I don't want to put it down until the last page is read.

Another Winner

Really enjoyed this story. The cast of characters is so vivid and entertaining. Yet the story also had some very heart-warming moments as well. Pure entertainment!

I love The Mary O'Reilly series

I love The Mary O'Reilly series. Terri Reid is a wonderfully talented other. Her writing style is perfect as are her characters and story lines. Please keep them coming Terri.

Many stories to go

I enjoyed this book as much as the rest of the series. Wish she would write faster. Don't know how far she can go with this series but seems to be many stories still untold.

Stolen Dreams

I was so happy that you decided to write another book in thisseries, and I look forward to your next book. You are one of my favorite authors and I enjoy your books.

Another good book in the series

I was so happy to find a new Mary O Reilly book. I have read them all and the only problem I have had with them is that they don't go on forever. I could gladly live in Mary's world with ghosts and a loving husband. I hate it when I come to the end. Please hurry Terri and write another episode soon.

djh

I enjoy the innocence and goodness of the main characters in this series. I also like the manner in which the evil characters are portrayed. It is a good balance and although story may be thought a bit naiveté it is realistic if one believes.

Love the Mary O'Reilly Series.

Awesome story lines. I have recommended this series to two of my sisters and one is not that crazy about ghost stories but has found these are a great read. Looking forward to the next book.

Another good mary O'Reilly book

I love the mary O'Reilly series it's such a feel good book with a good mystery case that has you hooked to the end can't wait for the next one!

Yikes! Such a good series of the paranormal!

This series has been consistently solid and entertaining and this latest book is no exception. These books are stand alone...no cliff hangers but occasional teasers to future stories. (Though as with all good series, reading the books on order enhances the experience by knowing the inside jokes and watching the characters grow.) Mary has been helping ghosts find peace and in this book it continues while unbeknownst to her Evil has taken note of her good works and doesn't like it. Yikes!

So good!!

If you like a quick, funny, romantic, paranormal read then these are the books for you. I've read them all and can't wait for the next book. They are just so much fun to read!!

Great

Just love the characters. Can't wait for the next book.

enjoyable Mary mystery

as usual, Terri Reid keeps this book clean. There is a strong marital partnership, a happy family life, good friends, and great local support. The mystery is of course solveable. The thing is though, after 14 books, the story is still fresh, fun, and filled with easy chills. Mary is an excellent main character. It is her cosupport though that is making these books even more entertaining.

Hope there are many more books to come.

Love the Mary O'Reilly books.

Five Stars

Love all her books great story line makes u think

Ghost Whisperer meets Philomena.

This is the first book I have read in this series and the last. This was too big of a ripoff from the TV show, Ghost Whisperer. Even down to the demons wanting her to stop doing good. It is an ok read but I just had a problem getting past all the many characters, who was who and how they fit into the story. Then a story within story that seemed ripped from the movie Philomena. Just nothing in this book felt original.
