In the vein of the great Edward Gorey and Maurice Sendak's Where The Wild Things Are, an irresistible little book of monster drawings, all on office stationery
John Kenn Mortensen's pen is full of wonderfully creepy monsters which crawl onto sticky yellow note pads when darkness falls. Here we have collected some of the best monster drawings in a delectable hardback edition.

The Little Monsters Jump off The Page
"Sticky Monsters" is a wonderful collection of pen art by John Kenn Mortensen. Originally drawn on yellow sticky notes, it makes you wonder how much skill it takes to fit all those details into such a small canvas - but this artist does it quite impressively. Although there is no storyline to this book, each of the 70+ images contain a little story that is connected visually. One could wonder if there is a small town somewhere where all these monsters exist among the living. If you like monsters and macabre in this same style I highly recommend this fairytale about a little girl and a haunted house:
For your nightstand
I've been enjoying his work on Facebook for awhile now and was excited to see he had a book available, so, I squealed and ordered it. Why this comes in a plain ole Amazon box instead of a container that hides a bursting-out-tentacle is just a reminder of the mundane world we live in. STICKY MONSTERS is a bit bigger than the size of your hand, square, slimmer than your pinky, and full of kooky goodness. Every page could hold it's own little story - if you dared imagine it. Any human featured must be experiencing trepidation, and every lurking menace nearby seems to have just noticed lunch has arrived. Since the pictures were originally on yellow stickies, they're reproduced in similar size - and you'll probably (like me) wish they were bigger, colorful, and even more revelatory. That's what makes them special efforts. This is sort of the perfect combination of Ed Gorey, Tim Burton, Roald Dahl, and Boris Karloff - whimsical, creepy, full of haunting whispers, and beautifully drawn.
Delightfully Dark, but in Doses
As a longtime follower of John Kenn's work online, I was pleased to see it all collected in one place. Full of fantastical creatures as it is, it seems fitting to be a physical object, to sit alongside dark, old fairy tales. It certainly conjures similar feelings of fear and danger. I do have reservations that prevent a fifth star from being awarded. Given the nature of Kenn's illustrations as one-off pieces, taking them in in succession gradually diminishes the effect. As an occasional blog post, the drawings were all fresh; in print, it is easy to grow tired of yet another "just before something dreadful happens" scene. It makes for a wonderful "coffee table" book, something to leaf through at random, and take in gradually.
Fan of his work but this collection is lacking
I'm giving this collection of John Kenn Mortensen's, STICKY MONSTERS, only three stars with no disrespect to him and his work. This is merely a review on what this collection lacks. I am was disappointed with the fact that this collection is lacking his more high detailed drawing that you can view on the internet. Those were the drawings that made me a fan to begin with. I'm unsure if he's going to continue making collections, and I don't know of any other books out there of his work, but the title does state "STICKY MONSTERS." This is really just a collection of his lower detailed background art work with more focus on the macabre creatures.
This book is so cool!
My children love/ and are terrified of this book! My first grader keeps hiding it all over the house so it can't "get him", but then he wants me to read it with him. He does seem to be getting braver. Terrific art in the tradition of Edward Gorey!
Yes, yes, yes! Get some Monsters!
This is a great little book! I discovered this by accident, but when I saw his style, I thought it would be worth the low price. And I was not wrong! So fun and whimsical, but dark at the same time, I just love all the scenarios and creatures in this special little world he created. Funny, but the settings have a very European feel to me for some reason, I don't know why, but it just adds to the creepy, old movie, monster factor! You can't go wrong with this purchase, if you're a monster lover, or know someone who is, this would make a great gift. This is one of my new favorites for inspiration in creating my own ghouls and creatures! Shipping was a bit lengthy(only because we're spoiled with 2 day Prime!), but well worth the wait. You can't beat it. Great work, Mr. Mortensen!
Secure Packaging, Fantastic Quality
The book arrived in secure and protective packaging and came in great quality condition. It is just like new. The illustrations came out beautifully and I'm delighted to support this artist in his ventures. I'm very pleased with this purchase.
A Joy of a Collection of Drawings
Admittedly, Mortensen's drawings remind me of Edward Gorey's work, but I like the art of both of these guys! The book is small, 80 pages and not a full-size hardcover, but the drawings inside (with almost no accompanying text) are a delight to contemplate. The artist has a unique style that's fun and outrageous at the same time. The most frequent theme of his drawings are giant monsters of various types and appearances lurk near some unsuspecting little boy or girl, adults or groups of people much smaller than the monster(s). I really like this book and the art inside. I hope he does more as I'll buy it!
I can't believe these were all done on post its.
I'll admit it, I like somewhat creepy things. This book is fantastic. It is just a series of pictures that Mr. Mortensen has drawn. His art is fantastic. It has texture and depth but is still far enough from reality that his images look as though they are there own, but real world. The most amazing thing about them is he did them all on post it notes (hence the term Sticky Monsters). It's a great book to just flip through. My older son jokes they are nightmare fuel but he can't put it down.
Great Collection of Mortensen's Art
This is a great book of the art of John Kenn Mortensen. There is no story to it by words or pictures. This is simply a collection of drawings Mortensen did on sticky notes. His work and style are unique. He should be an illustrator as well as a TV producer. Is this book for children? It could be. It is more in line with the books by Edward Gorey - they appear to be for children, but are not actually intended for them.

Good value
Wonderful illustrations I absolutely love this little book. He is such a talented artist
Great Artist, Great Book!
This is SUCH a great little book if you like art on the darker side
Sticky Monsters, Scary, Love It!
This is another artist who is brilliant at setting the tone of his work...
Neat, sweet, complete -- and yellow
This is just a cool little book of drawings of monsters done on yellow sticky notes in the artist's spare time. And they are wonderful monsters, popping up in the strangest places. The people in the pictures are oddly calm about having a monster within spitting distance, and that makes it even more fun. The author has a very nice style, more polished than Edward Gorey but with the same weird mood. I like the book a lot, and when I need a chuckle I read it again.

This is one of the most charming books I have every bought. I gave it as a gift to my wife, and she loves all of the drawings. We have both revisited it on multiple occasions, and each read brings welcome whimsy and imagination!
Unbelieveable!
This guy is the best! I have been following his blog forever and as soon as he made a collection available I bought it. I would love it if the book was the size of the sticky notes he draws on, that would really just push it over the top as far as awesome goes. John creates worlds.
Sad
I purchased this for a girl I had a crush on, and she doesn't talk to me anymore, so I guess it worked.
Gorey-tastic
This is a rad little book. I assume these are reproduced at the size that they were drawn, but I do wish the images were a bit larger.
Wonderful little book full of innocent ghoulish illustrations
Mortensen's monsters are innocent and curious. They have feelings, they are intrigued and concerned at times. It's a really cool and original book. The quality of the book is very good. No text, I don't even remember seeing a bio or an introduction... doesn't matter, more mysterious this way.
Great gift
Gave as a gift to my sister. She is a fan and loved it.
Five Stars
Absolutely beautiful. Great collection of work.
Three Stars
Very cool book, could use a bit more content.
I've loved his work for a while
This man is a genius. I've loved his work for a while, and I'm glad I have this little book to flip through whenever I need some inspiration!
Great bathroom book ;)
This is just one of those books you can flip through in a matter of minutes. JKM's pictures are creepy, cute, funny, and disturbing all at the same time! Also, the construction of the book itself is solid. Great hardback!

Great book
but when it arrived I it didn't take me long to fall in love with Mortensen's style
This item was back ordered for months, but when it arrived it didn't take me long to fall in love with Mortensen's style. He truly has a gift and I wish he would continue this is a series. I'll buy whatever he puts out as long as it is as good as this one.
Fantastic
Great very beautiful
Amazing!
Amazing! Very Lovecraftian but with a Slavic flavor. This little book is a true treasure and a must have for any fans of weird/horror art. Hope he does more.

Great book from start to finish
Great book from start to finish. Fans of Edward Gorey will most likely enjoy the Illustrations and dark humor of John Ken Mortensen!
She loved it.
Sent this to my daughter. She loved it.

We love Mortensen's illustrations.
Good simple ideas, well executed
Top notch clever drawing albeit a bit repetitive. Got this so my kid who likes drawing could learn some tricks, and it was a good buy.
Awesome illustrations
My brother is a fan of Mortensen's Sticky Monster artwork, so I purchased this book as a Christmas gift. He hasn't seen it yet, but I know he'll love it. I'm not sure how it compares with what is available to be viewed online (so I'm not sure if there is anything new), but from what I can tell the artist doesn't sell any originals or prints, so if you know someone who is a fan, this is pretty much the only way you can get them a physical copy of the artwork. Overall, I'm pleased with the quality of the art as well as the construction of the book and I can't wait for my brother to see it!
... this as a present for my mom and she loved it.

What's not to love? I hope the next book from Mortensen tells a story or maybe even a whole brood of them.
I heart art.
This book was a tad bit smaller than I expected but other than that I absolutely adore it. I keep it on my coffee table along with a couple other art books and its always the one I see my guests go for first.

two thumbs up
just as described, great gift for someone into this kind of art. arrived on time and in great condition.
Fun to flip through here and there
Fun to flip through here and there. As others have said, a few pages at a time is better than looking through the whole thing at once.
Fabulous sticky monsters
This is a fantastic, in all senses of the word, collection of wonderful monster doodles. Actually I reckon they are really illustrations of stories that we merely catch a glimpse of from a single image. Just a suggestion but it would be amazing to run a competitian to caption (or even story) each image, and the prize to have the caption (or story) included in a second edition of the book. That way everyone would buy a second copy as enrichment for the first. The first copy to be a marvellous stimulus for one's own imagination, and the second to marvel at everyone else's. Could do it via your (John Kenn Mortenson's) Facebook page.
What a cool, unusual little book
What a cool, unusual little book. I set mine out on the coffee table, and I always smile when I flip through it.
A good read, but a little on the small side.
Although this is a wonderful book that consists of only pictures (pictures that have given me GREAT ideas for my own works), it is much smaller than I thought it would be, denying me a chance to really look at the fine detail in this book. Aside from that small gripe, I still recommend you get this book if you like vexing pictures that you can carry around.
my daughter, 31, wanted this book
really cute book
Love this book
Shows what wonderful things can be achieved with the most basic of materials - sticky notes and a biro.
An under-rated illustrator
John Kenn Mortensen may not be the best known illustrator, and that is a crime. His drawing style is reminiscent of the late great Edward Gorey, and his subject matter is similarly dark, if not so morbid. The weird, creepy, monster-infested world the humans of Sticky Monsters inhabit is eerily serene and beautifully dark. And the monsters themselves? Well, every one is filled with character and personality, even if that personality consists of empty, blank-eyed wondering. Anybody interested in illustrative mark-making could learn a lot from the pages of this book, I certainly have, and will continue to do so for a long, long time to come.

Very inspiring illustrations and a style that I really appreciate since Edward Gorey
The kind of book you keep forever
This book is high quality with no text at all, just a charming, beautiful and mysterious drawing on each page. The hardback is reasonably priced and worth having. I had purchased it for my 10 yr old god-daughter but to be honest, it's so gorgeous that I will be buying for adults (and myself) too. Reminiscent of 'Where the Wild Things Are' in terms of the images haunting you from childhood right through to the death bed. Wonderful.
For the adult who has everything - and I love it, too!
I bought this on a whim, not being familiar with Mortensen in the past. It is fantastically "ghoulish" and I intend to buy one or two of Mortensen's books for my two sons (who are both in their 40's) at Christmas. I love this book!
Lovely similar-to-Gorey but different!
reminiscent of Edward Gorey, but off on their own strange tangent. Wonderful... we enjoyed gently pacing our way through the book - so as not to rush to the end and run out of more!
Anybody who likes something a little different will love this
LOVE LOVE LOVE! Mortensen is talented and this is a brilliant book of his works. So great I then gave copies to my friends :-)
Seriously ace doodles!
Seriously ace doodles!
Monstrously good
What a gem of a book this is. Each page is exquisite. Entire, fabulous, gruesome worlds completely realised in the space of a post-it note. Mortensen;s monsters are extremely creepy, yet wonderfully benign. They are as natural a part of the landscape as the trees or rocks. Sometimes, in fact, they are the trees or rocks. But buyer beware! It will leave you wanting MORE.
Stickilly good
Lovely little book, wonderful illustrations thank you +++++
Really unusual and great for the downstairs toilet
If you haven't seen this book then get your hands on one as it is really unusual and thought-provoking. Basically, this Danish chap draws pictures of monsters on Post-Its. The detail has to be seen to be believed.
Good
Very good book
... drawings inside are indeed sticker-sized and the paper is good quality.
I admit I was expecting something bigger - not two-palm sized book - but the drawings inside are indeed sticker-sized and the paper is good quality.
Quirky
Quirky little drawings of quirky creatures. I wish I could draw like this. I love it.
Lovely horror
This artist draw monsters in post-it, like me when I'm talking with the phone... but it is really ART! Amazing monsters and ideas just with post-it and a pen.

Awesome
Smaller than I realized but still worth the money.
The book is small, the original drawings were done on yellow sticky notes, hence the name 'sticky monsters'. These sticky note drawings are on blank white paper. There is a lot of blank space in this book. These are not problems just observations since you don't get a good look into the book before hand. I personally love this little creepy book and do not mind the blank space or size. If you are a fan of the artist or like creepy things then I highly recommend this little book which I see fitting into most purses or bags.
Capolavoro noir
Incríveis desenhos feitos em auto-adesivos "Post-It"
Quanto talento!
💙
I didn't buy this for me but for my sister as a birthday gift, amd of courde I got to take a peek into it before handing it to her. It's amazing, the illustrations are beautiful. Now I hope someday I get my own copy for my birthday.
small but cute book
Beautiful drawings, but it's a shame they're so tiny! I love the artwork, but this is a small book since they were sticky-note drawings. WOuld have liked them to be blown up a little.
Toll
Amazing depth of feeling and character using the most basic of art supplies
If you enjoy the slightly macabre or creepy you will enjoy flipping through this wonderful compilation of Mortensen's works. The strange juxtaposition of innocent looking children aloof of seriously sinister-looking creatures leaves one with a quickened pulse and vivid images left in one's mind. This collection of artwork is somewhere between that of Where the Wild Things Are and a Tim Burton creation. I often have to remind myself that such works were done with the simplest of supplies: post-it notes and a pen. I feel that the only thing that would have made it better would be if the images could have been enlarged somehow. That being said, the scale of the images is likely true to life of the original post-it sizes works. A truly original and interesting collection of works.

Beautiful book
Everything I ever wanted. Beautiful book. Arrived quickly.
Bello
Absolutamente recomendable
¡Genial!
Genial serie de ilustraciones en post-its. Macabro y bonito a partes iguales.
Espelusnante! Love it!
Five Stars
i love this book. well worth it.
Chulisimo
Geniale!
Stupendo e geniale a dire poco!
Muito bom
Muito lindo! Adorei
Bel libro, edizione pessima
