Will Henry
The follow up to the Eisner-nominated collection of Wallace the Brave comics, featuring beautifully illustrated scenes of childhood imagination, friendship, outdoor exploration, and adventure.

Think "Peanuts" if Charlie Brown were less of a mope or "Calvin & Hobbes" if Calvin weren't a bit of a psychopath. "Wallace The Brave" is about a family. There's Dad, a fisherman, Mom, a gardener, their almost feral young son Sterling, who never met a bug he wouldn't eat, and his older brother Wallace, a rambunctious, imaginative kid big on exploring. Mostly we see the world of the strip through Wallace's eyes, a sleepy East Coast beach town called Snug Harbor where the streets are lined with ice cream shops and the beaches are dotted with rocky tide pools ... The world of childhood depicted in the strip is a timeless, outdoorsy one reminiscent of strips like "Calvin & Hobbes" and "Cul De Sac," both of which Henry cites as influences. — NPR's Glen Weldon

The best daily comic today!

Will Henry continues to produce wonderful, beautifully drawn and constructed FUNNY comics every single day. To be this consistent on a day to day basis is a great accomplishment. Very few comic artists have been able to to do this over the years, but Will Henry is one of them, and for that I am grateful! Spent a joyous hour on the couch reading through this, laughing out loud and enjoying every panel. The loose, fun style of the art fits perfectly with the whimsical and clever humor. One of the highlights of each day for me is checking out Will's Instagram for the daily Snug Harbor event. Get this book for you AND your kids. Will is simply one of the best comic artists working today, and I don't see that ending any time soon!

A second joy ride with Wallace and friends

I was lucky enough to happen upon mention of the first Wallace the Brave collection and have waited, impatiently, for this second volume. Snug Harbor (I love that name) Stories continues with the same subtle and laugh out loud humor that made the first volume such a pleasure. Will Henry has captured the elements of childhood and made them available, once more, to adults with smiles and memories. It's been said many times but if you enjoyed Calvin and Hobbes, you should enjoy Wallace the Brave. By the way, it pays to re-read the strips. There are a lot of visual elements in the books that add to its pleasure, from the quaint houses to the reactions of the sea gulls.

A great new Strip

It has been quite awhile since an new strip has come out that I really like. Wallace the Brave is very good. The adventures of Wallace and his friends and family in what is a fishing villiage in the northeast somewhere are a joy to read. And this second collection is well worth it and I get the strips in color! Thanks. I look forward to more adventures of Wallace and Spud.

Love it!

Got this in the mail the other day, and I instantly had to sit down and read it. Every strip has so much detail that you don't just come to Wallace for the humor and commentary. It's a gorgeous book!

So great!

We (kids and I) were ecstatic to find out there was a second book! The first was so much fun, and the second keeps it going. I hope we get even more Wallace the Brave in the future! There's a real sense of nostalgia in these books for me - they capture childhood, but are funny to all age groups. Clever writing, great illustrations.

I want to live in Snug Harbor

My daughters love the adventures in Snug Harbor. There are many belly laughs in this book. I should say that both kids and the adults in my household loves this strip. Will Henry has developed a wonderful set of characters and is the strip is beaufitully drawn.

Your life in cartoon form

Something for everyone here, whether you're a parent, a kid, school teacher or lobsterman. A wonderful book.

funny

Great purchase! A laugh a page!

Snug Harbor Stories is a delight. Most of the strips feel familiar and there is a laugh at the end of every page. A real treat to read. If you haven’t picked up one of the books by Will Wilson I highly recommend you get Snug Harbor Stories.

10-year-old approved

My son loved the first book, and we were excited to learn a second had been printed. I have not read it myself, but my 10-year-old says it’s great, and he’s read both books multiples times now.

Made me laugh SO MUCH

Wallace is a kid who wants to live life to the fullest, and lets his imagine run rampant. His best friend Spud would like to take the safe and easy route. Their friend Amelia is scary smart, but sometimes hangs around them for entertainment. Together they have adventures both painfully ordinary (but still funny) and wildly imaginative (but still plausible). Oh my goodness, this had me laughing SO hard at times. Do not read this book in public or anywhere you need to stay quiet. I don’t remember laughing quite this hard when I read Wallace the Brave. Clearly, he’s gotten more clever with time. The best thing is that I can totally see a real group of kids in a coastal New England town saying or doing or imagining all of these things. Henry has found the magical humor of normal kid life and thinking. Highly recommended to anyone from 8 to 108 who is looking for a clean comic and a good laugh. I'm going to have to order multiple copies for our libraries. I received a copy of this title from the publisher. Opinions expressed are my own.

Great comics

Wallace the Brave by Will Henry, is a book filled with comics about a boy, his friends and his family. They live by the sea, where the father is a fisherman, and their house is built on stilts. Wallace is in his early years of school, and like many his age, he doesn’t necessarily find his school demands endearing. The artwork and pictorial representations of the characters were excellent. I found the plot and themes of the comics charming and funny. This is the first time I’ve seen this comic and I was hooked at once. I appreciated the setting by the coast, which isn’t one I’ve seen developed before. I also found both the father and mother characters charming, and the father often being pulled into his son’s fantasies was refreshing. This allows the comic to be embraced by a wider audience than only children, for many can relate to the pressures of life drawn up in a humorous way. The book does have one or two characters that don’t seem to measure up to the others, either in terms of looks or in aptitude, and there is an undertone of mockery by the others. Yet I wouldn’t consider it cruel. Kids do tease others for being different and this simply reflects that. I believe readers of any age would appreciate at least some aspect of this comic. Wallace the Brave is a book that I could easily see made into an animated series that many around the world would enjoy. Highly recommended.

Best Book Ever? Probably

I get intoxicated by the genius of Will Henry. He draws like there is an angel inside his hand and maybe a demon inside his brain. Sometimes I feel like Will and I are best friends and we laugh and I show him some of the new songs I've learned on the harmonica and he'll just sit quietly and nod his head like he's saying "go cat go" and I have to tell you that this sort of positive affirmation just makes me blow into the mouth harp even more vigorously. Anyhoo, this is a beautiful, funny book that will make you laugh, think and make your awful life seem better for an hour or two and who couldn't use that?

The kind of comic strip that I'm so glad they still make. Simply magical.

'Snug Harbor Stories: A Wallace the Brave Collection!' by Will Henry is the second collection of strips in this series, and I loved it just as much as the first. Wallace and his friends live a kind of idyllic childhood that I really hope is still a reality for children. They are free to roam and imagine. Wallace has parents that parent, but you can see where Wallace gets his whimsy and wonder. Wallace's friends are odd without excuse. They are friends because they are. Wallace the Brave is fast becoming a favorite. I love the nostalgic feeling I get of the kind of antics I remember from childhood. I like the non-cynical approach to the children in these strips. I also think many are quite funny. I received a review copy of this ebook from Andrews McMeel Publishing and NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. Thank you for allowing me to review this ebook.

Get Ready to Laugh

Wallace is a great character that you will simply love. He truly lives life to the fullest and for me is one that many of us would love to aspire to be in our own lives. Outside of Wallace though, he is surrounded by great characters such as his best friend Spud and their friend Amelia. Both of these characters are completely unique but so much fun as well. This book will have you laughing out loud! My daughters were laughing as much as I was too. This is a great book that will make you keep coming back for more, not only with the illustrations, but with the overall story too.

If you loved Cul de Sac, Calvin & Hobbes...

Quirky, joyful humor with charming characters (especially the seagulls who periodically comment on things). I miss my daily dose of Cul de Sac and C&H, but Wallace the Brave and Scary Gary help fill the void.
