Excellent Quality worth cost

Illustrations and Photos great. Quality if unit terrific. Worth cost. Makes for nice gift for Industrial Design and Engineering Grads

Fantastic!!!

My 7 year old is fascinated by skyscrapers. This book arrived quick. I didn’t realize that it was such a big book and really love that it is for the effect of the pictures. It has great illustrations and stats on each building. It’s a hardcover book and visually stimulating due to the size of the pages and buildings on them. My son loves this book! We read this book with him before bedtime as well. I would recommend this book for adults as well as children interested in buildings. Definitely worth the price and smiles.

Gorgeous, fun book!

What a amazing book! Got it for my son who’s interested in skyscrapers, but now we’re all interested. Gorgeous photos and so big, tons of interesting facts. We just absolutely love it.

Gorgeous pictures, detailed information!

This book is simply amazing!! I purchased it for my 9 year old son, who has become very interested in skyscrapers. The pictures are simply gorgeous and the information is amazing! I have found myself so interested in so much of information that I never knew about buildings that I’ve walked by hundreds of times!!!! Great job, Judith Dupre! This is a home run!!!!

Best Birthday Gift Ever

My mom loves tall buildings so I wanted to get her a book on them. When "Skyscrapers" arrived it blew my mind!! My mother is going to be over the moon about this. I LOVE that the book IS A SKYSCRAPER! It's the tallest book I've ever seen. Thank!

Awesome book!

We ordered this book for our 7 year old who said he wanted a book about skyscrapers. He loves it! The size of the book is what makes it so cool. You won't regret ordering this book.

such a good book

i love going through every sheet and seeing the details in huge format!!

Very cool book

I purchased this book for my 8 year old son who is obsessed with the tallest structures in the world. The pictures are beautiful and the information interesting. Some of the content is probably too verbose and written with vocabulary fit for a more mature reader. I found a few typos, which I found surprising, but it is still a great read. The size of the book is so big, we have a hard time just sitting on the couch reading it. It is definitely easer to read while sitting at a table.

The exception for your bookshelf.

I have always loved loved loved tall buildings. The views and the vistas of many are best experienced first hand and so this book is a commemoration of all the different ways you can get up high and see the world around you. The book is stunning because the book format is tall and skinny, like the elevator ride that'll get you to the top. If you're looking for a collection of dreams made reality in the shape of tall buildings, then this is the book to get. Just make sure your bookshelf has some head clearance room!

Fantastic photos

This was for a gift to a 9 year old who is very interested in architecture throughout the world. The pictures are fantastic, and the brief information is very well blocked on the page. More in-depth history of each building is of good length and interesting. Great for youth thru adult. Beautiful book.

Impressive Book!

I got this book for my grandson. He is six years old and really into TALL buildings! He continues to flip through the book and tell me what he knows about all the buildings.

but for a kid slightly less interested in skyscrapers this book may be a bit dull.

My 10-year-old stepson is fascinated by skyscrapers and loves this book. The size and shape of it and the details on each building definitely add to its appeal. The writing, however, is for an adult audience and quite verbose, far beyond his comprehension as well as that of most 10-year-olds. My stepson doesn't seem to care, but for a kid slightly less interested in skyscrapers this book may be a bit dull.

BEAUTIFUL book

My 14 yr old son LOVES skyscrapers and wants to be an architect. He is reading every page in this book. Tons of information.

Perfect for skyscraper lovers!

Gorgeous book and loved the unconventional shape. It was a gift for a nephew that was a HUGE hit.

What a book!

The book is nicely written, full of information and has sensational photographs and illustrations. It is a long tall book just like the subject matter and it's unusual shape is really necessary to get the quality of the photos down right. I can recommend the book to anyone who likes buildings of any sort but especially to those fascinated by skyscrapers. If you have a child interested in Skyscrapers, I can recommend this too. depending on their age, the text may be hard going for them but the visuals are sure to impress.

Best money we've ever spent on Amazon

Best money we've ever spent on Amazon. Bought for my son who is OBSESSED with skyscrapers. This has tons of pictures and facts on each building such as heights, number of floors and materials used. It also compares each building against the Burj Khalifa and Empire state building. He loves it. LOVES it. Carries the book with him. Constantly paging through it. Huge hit.

"Skyscrapers" Highly Recommended

Lovely book, for anyone fascinated by skyscrapers this book is the one. Huge top class photos of over a hundred of the prime buildings, past and present, and lots of informative writing about each. At a very reasonable price, perfect gift item

HUGE BOOK! Awesome pics, my son loves it!

I ordered this book expecting a smaller book with pics and interesting facts but what I got was SO much better! This book is HUGE, and full of gorgeous pics and information on the worlds tallest buildings. In the upper corner there is a comparison to the Burj Khalifa and The Empire State Building. I bought this book for my 12 yr old aspiring architect and it was a major hit! (It got him off the XBOX for a few days!)

Easy and gripping read

Bought four books on Skryscrapers, this was the best of the bunch. You'd think an architecture book can't be captivating but I loved it...

Great Photos for Skyscraper :Lovers

My 6 year old loves skyscrapers and was thrilled with the size of the photos in this book

Very artistic and informative for anyone interested in the subject.

This is a major improvement on the first edition. Photos are now in color and better quality. The accompanying text is very readable and informative. The author's interviews with some architects was very enlightening, although she could have added a bit more as to the vital role that structural engineers play in the success of such projects.

Fantastic Book! Great Gift!

The entire family love this book and we are not architects! We enjoy reading this book as family and visualizing our future travels to these skyscrapers. We already went "up' the Burj Khalifa and Eiffel Tower but didn't learn as much as when we are reading Dupree's descriptions. Now thinking to get her other books on Bridges and Churches!

Buy one to keep, and several for gifts!

Not only are the pictures fabulous, but the writing is excellent. Dupre makes observations that one would not necessarily make without her expert knowledge and intuitive understanding of buildings, communities, people, cultures... it is fun to just browse the book and gasp at the amazing buildings, or choose one and read of its intricacies. This is a PERFECT GIFT BOOK!

Great book! The big pictures and large lettering along the side with the name of the building was perfect for my 3 year old nephew. He's obsessed with the Sears Tower and has now learned of the Burj Khalifa from the book. Lots of interesting facts for the adults too.

Great book, beautiful photography

Great book, beautiful photography. Buying this book for your own enjoyment or to give as a gift you can't go wrong. Mine is a gift for the man I love, so I benefit from it too,.

Beautiful and fun book

I bought this book as a gift for my stepdad who loves books about how buildings were made and history behind them. This book is uniquely shaped tall and narrow like a skyscraper and the pictures and information are all wonderful. Highly recommend for someone who likes this type of book!

Impressive initial presentation that follows through ...

Purchased this book for my Cub Scout who desires to become an architect as a gift for good marks. He loves it, as I do as well. Each structure has a large beautiful picture and in-depth descriptions of the architect and various interesting snippets of knowledge. Excellent book!

Awesome

Bought this book as a gift for my architect husband. He loved it. The book contains great pictures; visually compares the tallest skyscraper to each; interesting facts and history. Includes older skyscrapers all the way to skyscrapers to be built in the near future.

Bought this as a gift for an architectural lover..

Exactly...

...what I was looking for. This is an incredibly current and well presented coffee table book that's about not just the buildings themselves, but also about where they're built, who built them and why.

Five Stars

I love the book! The information, the photos, the entire design is delightful and pleasant to read it.

Beautiful book!

The photos are beautiful and I like the tall narrow orientation. There is enough information to accompany each photo to be interesting and informative without becoming a text book.

Most things skyscraper

The bulk of this book presents major skyscrapers through history in a uniform format. There is a page discussing the skyscraper, and sometimes the architect, and facing that a picture of the building. The coverage is extensive, and should provide most everything the skyscraper-lover desires. There are also some vignettes that cover related topics like how skyscrapers are built or how to make them green or what the future holds. The overall tone is one of veneration of the skyscraper. While there are hints here and there of the limitations of building up, there isn't a hard discussion of when a building is too tall for its own good. Very few really tall buildings are built because the tallest buildings are more a matter of pride than economic sensibility. The very tallest buildings are now mostly in Asia and the Middle East, regions wanting to flaunt their growing economic might. With the exception of the new World Trade Center, a matter of pride after 9/11, American skyscrapers don't aspire to tallest lists, they are more about standing out in the neighborhood and being economically viable. Nonetheless, if you admire skyscrapers, you'll like this book. I was provided a copy for review by the publisher.

Beautiful, Well Presented, and Informative

This is a gorgeous book that is beautifully presented and written. I love that the publisher did this in a tall book format - so appropriate for the subject. The book is laid out chronologically: the earliest skyscrapers (arguably starting with Home Insurance in Chicago) and continuing on not only to those just finished in the last two years but also projected skyscrapers for which groundbreaking has begun. Each skyscraper is given a great bit of history write up and includes a full page image with facts about the building overlaid on top. The photographs chosen for each building are exquisite - beautifully done both photographically and architecturally. As a photographer myself, I was marveling at the images and sighing with pleasure. But as the daughter of an architect, I also greatly appreciated the layout and presentation of each building's history. Images of artists as well as pictures or paintings help complete the picture of the skyscraper - it's so much more than just an image and a bunch of text. Interspersed between the 100+ skyscrapers are interviews with architects, discussions of cities known for their skyscrapers (e.g., Dubai), and more There is also a list of the 100 tallest buildings at the back of the book. Since the book is formatted by each skyscraper, it makes it easy to follow and digest - in short bursts or one great read. This really is an incredibly well done and presented, informative and fascinating, history of Skyscrapers. Absolutely highly recommend this book. Received as an ARC from the publisher

Wavy pages on Sky Scraper Book

The book is beautiful; could be used as a coffee table book, however when I received it, it had not been properly packaged, or was in a very humid facility, hence the pages were wavy! This was to be a gift for my grandson who loves skyscrapers, but I may send it back and ask that it be wrapped correctly.

Great book!

Great book! The size and shape add to the scale of the skyscrapers pictured in the book. Great overview of developments made in skyscrapers overtime.

Dupré's books on important buildings are works of architecture themselves.

Judith Dupré's books on important buildings (Skyscrapers, Bridges, Churches, and Monuments) are works of architecture themselves. Like its predecessor, the expanded edition of Skyscrapers is a skyscraper of a book--at 18 inches tall. But the new post-millennial edition takes the clever design conceit one step further by being a museum of sorts in which each spread is an exhibit. More than simply another encyclopedic catalog of tall buildings comprised of diagrammatic photographs, 'wiki-histories' and tourist's specs, Skyscrapers' spectacular imagery and engaging text provide the reader with an encounter with each of the buildings and their creation, architectural significance, and cultural import. From accounts of the early defiant towers of the industrial revolution to the renaissance of super-tall structures in Asia and the raising of the Freedom Tower, each exhibit is a virtual visit to the skyscraper. In addition to the evocative photographs, Skyscrapers includes insightful interviews, obscure facts and some surprising speculations. Few of us will get the opportunity to see many of these places in person (some won't even be built in our lifetimes.) Dupré's tour is the next best thing. Beautiful Coffee Table Book

I thumbed through this book at Costco. The book is oversized but that's ok because you get blown up photos of the world's neatest skyscrapers. I really loved the pictures and the history of how the building was made. This makes a great gift for architecture fans!

... and I ordered it as a Christmas gift - great info and photos

My son saw this while in Chicago and I ordered it as a Christmas gift - great info and photos.

The Parthenon and The Pantheon are very different buildings.

In the intro, Pantheon, Greece is a laughable mistake. The Pantheon is in Rome and the Parthenon is what is described below the header. I am concerned that there are possibly more mistakes like this throughout the text. I will not buy this book based on the obvious error I observed within the first couple of pages. The editor and even the publisher should have caught this before it went to print.

Great architectural book with amazing pictures

This book is a big hit with my 6-year-old who is into skyscrapers. It's quite a big book with amazing illustrations. It has stories on the history of various buildings and their architects but also contains quick facts for a quick read. The only downside is that this is the only book my son wants to read. Good problem to have I guess.

Well worth the modest investment.

Like the topic and the clever sizing/design.

Amazing!

Amazing book. It's so big and has so much detail and awesome photos. My son especially loved the comparisons of each building to other ones in regards to size so you can see how it measures up. We will treasure thus book for years. I wish they would make one on towers now.

The photographs are excellent and the book is very interesting

This book is simply stunning. 174 pages of the worlds tallest buildings through the years from skyscrapers in New York of the 1930's to the tallest building in the world today. Every page has a different building and the page opposite has details of the construction and the architects involved. The photographs are excellent and the book is very interesting. The book is quite tall and bulky but the shape suits the subject matter perfectly. I bought it as a present for someone who loved it. A good coffee table book.

Well worth the money!

Very good book some fantastic photos!

SKYSCRAPERS

Being an Engineer I found the book an excellent treatise on tall buildings . It is well illustrated and the text is concise and lucid . The large format throws a different bent on book presentation , but it is pleasing . I enjoyed reading it and recommend it to anyone interested in tall buildings and their construction , whether one is a professional , or somebody interested in what goes on around them . Very good and upto date .

The good: wonderful book with great photos and so much ...

The good: wonderful book with great photos and so much fascinating information. The bad: it will not fit in your bookshelf! Also packaging did not seem to be as good as the usual amazon book boxes so book was was a little loose in the box but arrived in fine condition.

Great book for the family to learn about skyscrapers

Great book for adults and children and is well used in our house. There is in-depth information on each skyscraper as well as top line facts on height and materials which my children enjoy comparing across skyscrapers. The dimensions of the book are well in keeping with the subject matter and the photography is great too.

You will never find a more fascinating coffee table book. Even those who profess zero interest in architecture spend ages turning the pages and marvelling at these buildings. Even the Burj Kalifa (world's tallest building) is there.

Good

Great book - needs updating as it is a few years old now but love how big it is as it makes it stand out from other books.

Huge book but great content

My son absolutely loves skyscrapers and this book was a massive hit, but it is a very large book! We do quite like that about it but storage is tricky

Big buildings in a big book!

Some great photography and some insight in to the history and construction of skyscrapers. My only moan (and it's a little one) is that the book is cumbersome to handle when trying to read it. I would recommend it to anyone interesrted in skyscraper architecture.

Great book with production qualities to match its subjects

The book's wonderful, unusual shape is very appropriate for a book about skyscrapers - though it does make it rather a bulky and tricky book to carry about as it won't fit into most bags. However the overall production qualities and impressive photography does ample justice to the buildings it documents. A great book, and not just for architecture buffs.

A giant

We bought this fabulous book as a birthday present for our 11 year old son: he loves it, has already spent hours reading it and drawing skyscrapers from the unbeatable numerous pictures. And now wants to become an architect. A book that anyone from 6 to 100 will love!

Superbe

Wahou !

Given as a present and loved !!

It is the defining book for tall buildings
