Between the late 1960s and the late 1980s, Italy went crazy for “sexy fumetti," a home-grown genre of adult comics with a unique brand of twisted humor, violence, and up-front sexuality. Wilder and weirder than you can imagine, they were some of the most outrageous and shocking comics ever produced, and their eye-catching, highly provocative covers could be seen on every news stand and kiosk in the country. One of the most talented and prolific of the cover artists at Edifumetto—the foremost Italian producer of adult comics during this period—was Alessandro Biffignandi, whose work featured horror, fantasy, and sci-fi elements alongside plenty of naked female flesh. This book is a collection of some of the sexiest examples of Biffigandi’s cover art for Edifumetto, which is highly coveted by collectors today.

Well Done Art But...

I'd never heard of this artist until I was horror art hunting but I thought 'let's give it a chance'. Overall the artwork is very well done and I really enjoy Biffignandi's use of color. However, while the book is well made with a skilled artist, seeing page after page of women being the victim, or damsel in sexy distress got uncomfortable after a while. Especially when some of the images highly suggest the woman isn't willing in the sexual encounter. I realize what kind of media his art was used for and I don't know why I didn't expect this given the sample images and book title when I ordered. That's not to say the ladies don't a few images where they are the power figure, it's just skewed in favor to what I mentioned before. Perhaps as a women this affected me more than it would a man looking at the art, just with the long history of violence against women being overly sexualized for the male gaze. I may not care for the book overall (I do have a few pages I like) but I can still recognize a skilled artist. So my 1 star is because the book itself is well made and I did like some of the art but the subject matter I mentioned before made me uncomfortable. I'm pretty sure I wont be buying any more of the Sex and Horror books, it's just not for me.

Another serving of wild Italian pulp art

Last year I read and reviewed Sex and Horror: The Art of Emanuele Taglietti. I enjoyed it and when I learned the publisher was releasing a book on Allesandro Biffignandi, another Italian artist who produced covers for the erotic horror comics of the 1970's and 1980's, I decided to check it out. Biffignandi's work is similar to Taglietti's (indeed, both contributed to the same magazines). Worth noting is the feature Candida la Marchessa, involving a noblewoman turned thief after her fortune is lost. She comes across as a more sinister version of American pulp's Domino Lady. Cimiteria is a beautiful revived corpse who gets into supernatural adventures with her hunchback lover. Biffignandi also did erotic parodies of Zorro and classic literary works. All in all, if you like wild art that combines sex, nudity, violence and horror, this will be something you will want to see.

Apparently a new printing

I don't like the title of the series. However, it is a chance to see some great artwork including a unique technique of painting and application, and I wanted some examples of this artist's work for the bookshelf. I only did that because of this apparent new printing. The prices on the volume before this were astronomical for a while... The content is a bit strong if you are used to the American comics... same goes for all of the volumes in this series so far. A good sampling of the artwork and comics it represents.

Buy it before it's gone!

I collect these books. All are tributes to some super talented artists and the Genre may be dated but art is eternal!

All Good Man

All Good Man

Beautifully detailed art on every page

Absolutely love this! It's a great addition for any horror fan.

Amazing book!

This book is FANTASTIC! Im a huge fan of Biffignandi and I was thrilled when I found out the guys at Korero Press were putting together a collection. And they really did an amazing job! Beautifully reprduced illustrations and filled with extra drawings and behind the scenes photos and background onfo. This book and its companion book (The Taglietti volume) are two of my favorite books I own now. Very highly recommended!- William

Great book, well made

Great book, well made, great quality image reproduction. My only quibble is that inset B&W photos of the the original nude models are censored. Pretty ridiculous considering the adult nature of these art books.

Beautiful Photo Book

Very Nicely Done Book, The ART work was just absolutely amazing. Each and every page was just beautiful,a master piece in itself. Seeing the time that Alessandro put into each and every page, Timeless works of ART. Each photo has a description and date which is very nice

I love this book

I love this book, and the first book in the series featuring the works of Taglietti. These books collect the best of what the 1970s and 80s horror fumetti have to offer, considering the interior art is not worth remembering. But the covers in this book, by Biffignandi, are just amazing. Not for children or the squeamish, this book is nonetheless a beautiful tribute.

A terrific book and companion to the first volume in the series. I would have liked to have learned more of the background on Biffignandi, but that's a very small quibble in an otherwise gorgeous book. Can't wait for future volumes in this series... HINT! HINT!

Excellent production

More masterfully lurid cover paintings from Italian pulp comics of the 70's and 80's. Biography of the artist, covers grouped according to the title they were done for, quality production. Don't miss the previous/companion book, "Sex and Horror: The Art of Emanuele Taglietti"!

2020 Printing = DEFECTIVE laminate/coating!

VERY POORLY PRODUCED BOOK. I ordered my first copy from Amazon the 2nd week of January 2021, and when it arrived I was shocked to see that the cover laminate/coating was ALREADY STARTING TO PEEL. Returned it, and ordered SIX copies (again, "Sold by Amazon"). Received them today, and ALL SIX COPIES HAVE LAMINATE PROBLEMS. Either the publisher skimped on this re-print, or they let these sit in a warehouse for four years before sending them to Amazon fulfillment centers. I think it's the latter, as no second printing is indicated on the publisher's information page. Great content, HORRIBLE PRODUCTION.

Four Stars

Great art. Could use a bit more narrative.

Very entertaining and high quality

Really enjoyable not just for the artwork but for the history as well.

Italian horror magazine covers from the past.

A very good collection of this artist's horror covers. Delightfully gruesome and graphic. Delivered quickly and packaged securely.

Chock-full™

Chock-full of amazing art!

Great book with high quality image reproduction.

If you couldn't get enough of the HBO TV series True Blood, if you are a fan of the grotesque, the lurid, and the fantastical, and if you loved Sex and Horror: the Art of Emanuele Taglietti, you will love Sex and Horror: the Art of Alessandro Biffignandi. The images are brilliantly colored paintings used on the covers of explicit Italian adult comics. Dark dreams and graphic nightmares. Nobody paints it wilder than Italians. The contributing collectors and publishers of this edition have outdone themselves with high quality art from BIffignandi--one of the Italian greats. Featured characters include monsters such as vampires, Frankenstein, and the undead, witches, and even a naughty Snow White. Not for the faint of heart!

Sex and Horror: The Art of Alessandro Biffignandi.

Yay! So pleased to have got a copy of this at long last – it's been out of print and incredibly expensive for some time – so grab it now that it's available in this new print run. I knew of the Italian artist/illustrator Alessandro Biffignandi through his work for Fleetway and D.C. Thompson in the 60s - though I didn't know who he was at the time – he contributed the cover art for many of the War Picture Library and Commando comics I and many boys of my generation collected (and even learned to draw from.) The collection of work presented here is the much more adult work he did for Italian “Sexy Fumetti” magazines - dramatic and colourful stuff from the 70s and 80s with lurid, theatrical and horror-tinged subject matter, soft porn but beautifully (and imaginatively) rendered. A selection of work from 20 different magazine series are included here together with other examples of his output; texts are brief and limited to short explanations of each set of images, with a brief introduction and biographical outline with comments from Biffignandi himself. A very good showcase of his work in this genre; the half-dozen or so images in the product description above give a good idea of the book's content.

Good artwork

Good art images of, as it says on the cover, 'Sex and Horror' as drawn by Alessandro Biffignandi. Good if you have an interest in, so-called, 'horrotica' as I imagine this would fit the bill.

Ottimo volume
