When You're a Rock at the Bottom of the Pile

Scribble Stones is formatted to be read in landscape mode (holding your device horizontally) where it takes up the entire screen. Words and pictures display together on the screen like a traditional picture book. A lot of self published Kindle authors can't be bothered to format their work and it displays like a mess with bits of text on one page and an image on a small part of the screen on another, so I always like to take the time to point out when authors care about their reader's experience and their own work enough to take the time to format it. Basically a stone looks forward to being picked for an exciting helping others career, but it is picked last, and ends up a paperweight. It doesn't like this and comes up with a way to help others.

fantastic book for teachers!

I would recommend this book to anyone. The cover also doubles as a poster which I taped to my board after our read aloud. Here are our scribble stones!

Another winner

A fan of this author from her very first book, this one is no exception. Simple, engaging, creative and adorable! My artsy/mama/teacher heart is happy!

Cute, creative and collaborative!

I love how this stone comes from the bottom to help others! A great message for kids, plus there's a fun collaborative project idea in the back! Diane's best book yet!

Another great story from an awesome author

Being a huge fan of Ms. Alber's work, or rather my niece and nephew being huge fans, we had to check out her latest creation. Scribble stones is a great story about a stone that's picked last, but discovers meaning in his individuality. It's a great read for children with another great message and lesson. Very fun, and the activities offer a great alternative to uninspiring screen time.

So cute! A reason for reading this book....

We paint rocks all the time, for our stone garden and for pet rocks, and to share with others. This is a fun book to read before you start painting. It gives you a reason to paint them, and it makes it so much more exciting!

Awe ❤️❤️❤️ sweet book!

This is the sweetest book ever! I love making kindness rocks which made reading this book even more fun 😍 Great read and the kids I work with would love starting a rock project like this.

Scribble Stones... go find yours to decorate!

Another AMAZING book by Diane Alber! And goes along with her “A Little SPOT of...” books/series. The inside cover that’s a poster is shown in pictures. Resources to go along with books can be found on Diane Alber’s website.

Positive story with engaging illustrations

The scribble books always bring tears to my eyes. This is a great story to read just to be read, or to explain to children that everyone has a purpose. A fun story with a positive message. Be ready for some rock painting fun when you're done. It's the first things the kids will want to do after you get to the last page

Don’t be fooled by the cover.

My 2 yo loves stones and rocks and I saw this book had good reviews on Amazon, which is why I got her this book. Unfortunately, it might be one of the most poorly written and least interesting children’s books I’ve ever read. It’s clear the producers of this book were just looking to make some money. My daughter loves books and asks to read them over and over but she didn’t even sit through the first reading of this one.

One of my granddaughter’s favorite books!!

My 2 year Old Granddaughter Loves it!! Well done story about a stone that wanted to bring joy to someone’s life. It quickly became a favorite of hers and she runs to get the book every time I visit. She has so many books it’s often hard to find! It is definitely one of her favorites!

Hardcover book, bent corners.....

Waited a long time for this to arrive, while the story is cute and I like the artwork, my copy arrived with a damaged corner that affects every page.

Very Creative Book for Kids

I got this book for my niece. I enjoyed reading it and I believe that the message behind this book is instrumental for kids to know. Overall, very nice artwork and illustration make it very cool addition to the bookshelf. Highly recommend this book for kids and adults alike.

Fantastic Book! 📖

Amazing book, and in beautiful condition!! I so wish I could afford every one of these books 🙁 My 5yh grade class loves them, and every year I have my students bring a rock in ... then they paint them for whatever or whomever they want to give them to. The poster hangs on my classroom door, and is the first thing they see coming in every morning. 💞

Great for creative expression lesson plans!

Love this story- I used this for an art and social emotional lesson in an ECE classroom. Great narrative that is easy for kids to understand and the students all enjoyed making their own scribble stones!

Colorful tale with a good motsle ending.

There are two authors whi have written delightful stories about stones and similar objects. Many are written as poems. All have beautiful colored pictures. Each book has a gentle morale and good advice. Great fir kids up to about 12, but writing is a bit tio easy for the older kids, yet colorful and clever!

Great book

This book has a wonderful message and is filled will simple pictures that help send the message. I bought this for my granddaughter for Christmas and paired it with a rock painting kit. I’m sure she will love the book and the activity!

Rhyming storyline about scribble stones with clean lined-art

Did I just use clean lines and scribble in one sentence? Yes, somehow magically this artist-author accomplished both while presenting an engaging tale of the power of perseverance.

Easy to understand story

My grand daughter is 3. She has the original Scribbles book which she likes - made this book very easy to comprehend. Mom says she loves it!

Super cute way to introduce stone art!

Very cute book, with great rhymes and a great story to get kids interested in creating their own stone art.

A must have!

Love this book! It literally is amazing to read to little ones!! I read it to my class via distance learning and we painted stones together as a way of spreading happiness to their mothers on Mother’s Day! It was really cute.

Cute story

Story was cute and illustrations were vibrant. Story lends itself to an art project. Plot did not develop character too much. Text type was very small so not too conducive to reading together with a young child.

Great way to teach kids to make gifts

I still have a stone that my daughter painted for me about 30 years or so ago. Home made gifts from kids are precious and this is a good start to teach them. I also believe painted stones can be very good in mosaics and as paper weights.

A Beautiful Story

Another beautiful, thoughtful story about art, every day objects, creativity and sharing... the author does a fantastic job, yet again, with her cute “art” characters. Maybe as close to another Dr Seuss as we’ll ever get...

Fun

My granddaughter and I enjoyed reading this book together. I also have the companion book and are looking forward to makIng some stones of our own to share.

This book is amazing!

This is a go to book for all my children! The art and story is so beautiful! Of course, they had to paint their very own scribble stones after they read this one! Highly recommend!

Finally! Now I know what to do with all the rocks my kids insist on bringing inside.

This is a super cute book about a rock finding purpose in the world and sharing that with others. It's a great message and a fun story. I love that there's a craft project at the end of the book for kids to do.

Cute story!

I like the little stone's emotional journey of ups and downs while he finds his place(s) in the world. And Alber's art is adorable! The rhyme is appealing. Fun book!

Great read!

Use at the beginning of the year to teach respect and cooperative learning. Kids love to paint and babe their rocks.

Loves it!!!

My 4 year old grand daughter loves this book!! My daughter told me that she requests this book to be read to her every other day.

Fun!

My 2 and 3/4 year old granddaughter is in namard with this book in the others in the series. Thank you for your creativity

Sweet, Fun Story!

I love the use of art in her stories. Stone wanted to be picked and shared. Would be wonderful activity to have in library maker space. The kids could share their art with others when completed.

A book for all ages.

All of her books have a good life lesson if reminders whatever your age. The illustrations are simple, but beautiful, and just makes you feel.

Beautiful book for those who love to design

Wonderful book to further the joy of painting rocks. Also meaningful shared experience that rocks can provide.

Fantastic Message and Beautiful Artwork

A wonderful story with a great message about you never know for sure what you can be or do. Fantastic book! I paired with a set of paint markers and painting stones for a gift.

Great book with an even GREATER Message

Love this book!!! The illustrations are very well done and it has a terrific message!! This author and illustrator is one in a million!!!

We are all more than just a stone

Great story!

Beautiful story!!

My son and I just love this fun story! We also love I am not just a scribble as well!

FINDING ONESELF

Stone sits among a pile of rocks waiting to find his true purpose in life. He knows that he is destined to make someone happy. Slowly, each of the rocks in the pile disappears. Stone is left alone and depressed until one day someone picks him up and puts him on a desk. Stone becomes a paperweight. The stack of papers grows until one day some colors spill on him. Scribbles encourages the colors to paint him. Not long after other stones appear waiting for their colors. Now Scribbles travels the world bring happiness to each person who picks him up. This is a cute tale with adorable illustrations that teaches young readers each of us can make someone happy, no matter how insignificant. The book could be used in connection with a creative art project. It is appropriate for all ages.

Magical storytelling with a beautiful message

So creative to take a small idea and turn it into a beautiful story about stones. I really enjoyed this reading experience. As an author, I read other children's books for informational and research, but this intrigued me because of the colorful stones. You and your kids will enjoy the storyline and they will love the inspiration it brings. The artwork is delightful. Scribbles are so creative and it leaves you in two ways. 1. With a warm and Inspiring ending, and 2. desire to go out and buy my own stone to start painting. A great read for children young and a fun activity to share together. Job well done. I loved it. Klaus's mom.

Cute Art Idea

I'm not sure whether scribble stones are just a thing which exists or a creation of the author, but I'd never heard of them before. Now that I understand the concept, I think it's really cool and a fun art project to partake with the younger members of one's family. The book itself tells a cute story about a little stone who finds his purpose in life giving happiness to others. The rhyming feels weird sometimes, but overall it's a quick, fun read.

Fun and a good start for activities with kids

This is a fun story of a stone which gave me the desire to paint on stones and I am not a child anymore (unfortunately). I love the idea. Illustration is great and it flows with the words. The characters are expressive and it reminds you of what one can do just with a few lines: there is a great universe in this book and children will get involved asap. A great idea for rainy days and a good pretext for sunny days to go looking for stones outside!

duh, no

I always read any book I give as a gift or even recommend especially for children. I won't recommend this one. Plain rock gets all the other plain rocks rolling around the world to get painted. I have reread this book twice and still find nothing redeemable with this story.

Cute but meaningless

Glosses over the point of the scribble stone being passed on (we are not aware of why). Ending felt unsatisfying as a result. Lovely illustrations though, wish the writing matched the charm

Lovely story

Teaches patience and kindness without saying so, using a medium that kids love. I try to read all children's books before gifting them to kids.

Forced review: can't view book until we submit

Well can't read book until we submit review I'm sure its fabulous for as overpriced as it is. cheers yall.

A book that makes gives you all the good feelings

A book that makes gives you all the good feelings after you read through it. One stone gets brave and took a chance to be painted— in doing so, it inspires other stones to join in, shine and also try something new. Sometimes, it takes just one person to inspire others to be creative. I love how this book has other characters from her other stories!

Keep searching until you find your purpose

The stone realizes he isn’t serving a satisfying purpose. He keeps looking for a purpose, then sees others who needed his help. In the process of helping the others, the stone finds his purpose. Diane Alber’s books continue to impress upon readers the power they have to live with character and purpose.

Earthy and colorful

Uplifting illustration and idea encouraging words on every page. Me (35mama) and my six year old son were pleasantly surprised and shared a good amount of laughter. It’s sweet, simple, thoughtful, displays the joy of optimism and teamwork:) ✭✭✭✭✭✭✭✭✭✭✭✭✭✭✭✭✭✭✭✭✭✭✭✭✭✭✭✭✭✭✭✭✭✭✭✭✭✭✭✭✭✭✭✭✭✭✭✭✭✭✭✭✭✭✭✭✭✭✭✭✭✭✭✭ ➳♥❥thank you to the author and team who made this book!

Sweet Book!

Diane Alber did a great job with her rhymes and artwork. Held my attention the whole way through and I can't wait to read it to my two youngest grandsons. I think we will be doing some stone painting. Loved: Where there's a will, there's a way!

Scribbles Galore

I didn't know what to expect but the cover looked like it would be fun to read. I wasn't disapointed. The book is fun to look at and to read. I am going to get a copy for my great-great-grandson who is autistic as I think he will enjoy it as much as I did.

I love this Book!

When I was young, I collected rocks. I always looked for rocks that look pretty to me. Now I have grand nieces who are into rocks. This book takes the perspective of a stone who wants to feel "special." It's easy to apply the feelings the stone has to how children and even adults sometimes feel. I am making a rock box for each of my grand nieces and am including this book and the same author's book on painting stones. The first rock box will be gifted in a few weeks. I can't wait to see my great niece's expression.

Cute story for all ages

My daughters, three and six, love this book. My three year old loves anything rocks, and this keeps her attention with the bright and vibrant colors and art. My six year old understood the emotional connection more. Highly recommend.

Excellent book about finding your purpose patiently

I love this book! My son loves painting rocks and reading books. This book is a very clever book that teaches kids that it’s okay to not get everything you want immediately. If you wait patiently, good things will find you, and you’ll be able to fulfill a greater purpose. I recommend this read for all kids.

Cute Story

I love this book! It has a positive message and can be used at any age! I’m going to use it with my Middle School Students and have them draw a scribble stone then write a nice message to one of their peers.

For any child that enjoys art!

My 4 year old who loves art and rocks, enjoyed this book. It is such a cute and inspiring story. I love the bonus of an art project inspired by this book! Who knew painting stones could be so much fun!

Good book

It describes something that happened in Florida which you paint 🎨 on rocks and you hide them somewhere and you give them away and you find rocks and take them with you or you take it home 🏡

A Colorful Surprise

In this story every stone has a purpose. The main purpose to make people happy. A little stone starts to doubt itself until scribbles came by. Cute story with an added project at the end.

Typo in Kindle Version

The book flows with rhymes. It would make a fun book to read before a pet rock or rock painting project. I would recommend this book for children up to age 7. However, there is a typo in the Kindle version, surprise is spelled "surpise."

Delightful!

My grandson (6) says he likes that " a lonely guy turns into a worldsaver ". I thought it was easily accessible and gave us the warm fizzles when we read it together.

Beautiful and Creative

This is a wonderful story that presents the use of art to spread happiness to others. Perfect for Art class or just for reading with your favorite friends and family!

Swell rhymes and ideas!

Excellent formatting and appearance. Swell rhymes, very catchy, possibly memorable. Looks really good on the kindle fire! The topic is News to me, maybe not to you?

Such a neat idea

A neat idea and a great story about finding your purpose. Fun and rhyming with adorable illustrations. A great book and activity for kids!

I love this story

Very good and creative book. My kids loved it. Will be doing the activity over the weekend. It had a nice simple storyline that made it fun

Very Cute!

Super cute book I’m excited to share with my students. I think they’ll have a great time making their own scribble art too!

So cute!

This book is clever, creative, and colorful! The pictures and rhyming text should appeal to children of many ages. Kids love rocks, and they will love this book about scribble stones!

Inspiring!

I love how inspiring this book is. I wanted to find a stone for all of us right away and do this project!! I know one thing we are doing today to brighten someone’s day.

Cute good lesson

Cute, rhymes, good vocabulary in story that can help build language skills. Great lesson for children to learn. Nice illustrations.

Cute!

Well written, colorful characters that children can relate to. Teaches a lesson. If I had children I would definitely order more of her books!

Well written, thoughtful and necessary book.

I've been looking for books to discuss the concept of whiteness with my children so they can work to dismantle the pervasive white supremacy in the U.S and globally. I'm happy to have this great tool!

Fun book

My children loved this book! Fun to read and illustrations cute! And we are ready to create our own scribble stones now!!!

Cute great way for kids to express and share

Cute art book for sharing and great way to teach kids to share. Pictures are very expressive and we'll thought out.

Two big thumbs way up. .... Kids seem to listen better to a story that is ryming ...

The best thing about this book is it let's kids and even adults know. Art is not a perfect line. Art is what ever a person feels. Theres no right or wrong way to do it.

Cute Story!

Lovely story of a rock’s will to brighten up your day. Creative look at an object and how art can take all forms.

Fun book to read with kids, nice idea too for art project. Reading probably a 2nd grade level.

Fun book to read with kids, nice idea too for art project too. Reading probably a 2nd grade level. Thanks

Creative!

Great story to show how a dull stone can be bright, fun, and colorful. The story helps spark creativity in children. Also great way to inspire children to use material in nature to ignite art skills.

Aw!

Too cute! I love the little story and the rhymes are great. SPREAD THE HAPPINESS WITH SCRIBBLE STONES!!! A website at the end tells how you can be a part of it too.

Adorable story!

I love the message in this book! A stone trusting in his purpose, feeing sad, accessing his resilience! A beautiful story for a preschool or elementary school student! Helpful reminder for us adults as well! Love, love, love!

Fun book

It was fun to read with my son. He wants to create his own scribble stone!! And since we are social distancing I think this is the perfect time to do such a fun project!!
